RUSSIA: Five Tipping Points that Brought War, Treachery and Destruction

In a previous column I introduced the term The Soviet Mafia. To conceive the nature of the Soviet Mafia, you need to know the history of its birth. There are five points that determined the character of this criminal force, as war, treachery, and destruction have been the hallmarks of all Russian history. Our first millennium gave us the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, Christianity, and several Crusades. All of these things took place in the territory we call today Western Europe. Yet something very important has been developing in the territory of a contemporary Ukraine, known today as Eastern Europe.

The First Tipping Point

Most of you probably have never heard of Kievan Rus’, but by the end of the first millennium it was a very well-developed country with all the freedoms known to Western countries at that time. It was a loose confederation of the Slavic tribes of the independent city-states Novgorod, Tver, Chernigov and others that underwent unification by the end of first millennium. Kiev was the seat of their central government. These city-states resembled the independent city-states of Berlin or Cologne in Europe at the time.

Although those Slavs had some Scandinavian blood, their common Slavic language was conducive to unification under Kiev. Kievan Rus’ grew into a federation and by the end of millennium it stretched from the Black Sea to the Baltic Sea, from the Carpathian Mountains to the Oka River. The Dnieper River that flows through Kiev was an important trade route and the primary reason Kiev was chosen as the administrative center of the federation. Through trade, Kievan Rus’ maintained close relations with the Byzantine Empire, Greece, and other European countries. Christianity and the Cyrillic alphabet both came to Kievan Rus’ from Greece.

Eventually Kievan Rus’ began to play an increasingly important role in European politics. To get an idea of the significance of Kievan Rus’, please go to the internet and do some research.  You will see its achievements in architecture and literature, the scale of its economy, and its simple humanity; it will surprise you. The widespread personal serfdom of Western Europe did not exist in Kievan Rus’—it was a country of real freedom. The name Kievan Rus’ was given to the Federation by the Russian historian Nikolai Karamzin. He wrote that “The state existed from 880 to sometime in the middle of the 13th century when it disintegrated. It is considered that the Mongol invasion… greatly contributed to that effect.”

By the beginning of the 12th century, there is a turning point in Russian history: the world gives us a name of a new Slavic city-state—Moscow. At the time Moscow was nothing more that an insignificant trading outpost in the principality of Vladimir-Suzdal.

When the Tatar-Mongol invasion had occurred, the people of the Kievan Rus’ resisted. Unlike them, the Moscow princes had preferred accommodation and found a common language with the invaders. The Mongols, after the resistance of Kievan Rus’ had also realized the importance of local help. They came to an agreement under which Moscow collected taxes for Mongols, gave them other forms of help and participated in killing other Slavs. That agreement made Moscow and Mongols partners.

It was the direct Moscow collaboration with the Mongols against the Kievan princes and treachery that eventually led to the execution of the Kievan princes. When Kievan Rus’ had lost its top leadership: “The Mongols sacked Kiev and all major towns; their practice of total destruction led to dismemberment of the Kievan princedom…” Kiev was drowning in human blood and even the surviving princes’ heads were cut off. Most cities of Rus’ were erased and the survivors of the wreckage fled north to escape the wrath of the Golden Horde. If you remember the name of Genghis Khan, you can imagine what was left of Kievan Rus’ after his victory.

Moreover, Moscow even participated with Mongols in killing other surviving Slavic leaders—Moscow never liked competition. Moscow’s collaboration with the Mongols lasted 300 years, during which they coexisted and even mingled to some degree. Don’t be surprised by the current Russian character—double dealing and deviousness could have become dominant traits as a result of the first tipping point. The Mongol yoke lasted 300 years — that means 10-11 generations of Russians who lived and sometimes inter-bred with the Golden Horde. This equilibrium lasted until Russian Prince Dmitriy Donskoy gathered all the Slavic peoples into an armed force that defeated the Golden Horde in the 13th century. The Mongols retreated to south, (today’s Central Asia). They assimilated with the locals. Some Mongol forces went onward to Afghanistan and assimilated with local tribes there.

Once a student asked me what was the force that stopped Golden Horde and saved Europe? I am not sure, but I would say that Kievan Rus’ resistance had become a barrier for the Mongols to go farther into Europe. My conclusion is follows: With the help of Moscow, Kievan Rus’ had been thrown on the altar of humanity to save Europe.

The Second Tipping Point

Several times in this series I spoke of the October Socialist Revolution in Russia. In practical terms, it was not a revolution, but a coup d’etat. The real revolution took place in February 1917, when the Tsar abdicated and the Provisional Government took over the reins of government. ( Ayn Rand who had lived in Russia, supported the February Revolution, and denounced the Bolshevik Revolution.) The deliberate manipulations by Bolshevik deputies in the Duma (parliament) paralyzed the Provisional Government. The food and fuel shortages that resulted from WWI created constant popular ferment and unrest in the capital of Russia.

The Bolshevik leader Vladimir Lenin had a master plan to turn popular discontent into support for revolution. He and his comrades were masterful in stirring up political and social turmoil in the capital. Constant demonstrations and chaos within the Duma had virtually stopped the normal functioning of the government. Finally, unable to rule, the Provisional Government disintegrated. Its top leader, Alexander Kerensky, left the Petrograd (St. Petersburg) camouflaged in women’s clothing while the local Soviet of Peoples Deputies took power in their hands. You know what happened after that—the tragic rest of the story–the Socialist Revolution and Stalinist dictatorship.

The Third Tipping Point

I am sure many Americans know about German National Socialism (Nazism) or Fascism.  Some remember how these forces unleashed unspeakable brutality against people of all nationalities, religions and races and created a Holocaust of Jews.  The world knows the German security forces and the word Gestapo, as well. I am not sure that the world knows what NKVD means. This is the name of the notorious Soviet security agency during the 1930s-40s. I called it notorious for a reason: the NKVD tortured and killed millions of innocent people. Among other functions it managed the Secret Police, regular police, and forced labor camps known as Gulags…

When Hitler came to power, he sent his emissaries to Moscow to learn about the structure and management of Soviet security and intelligence within the NKVD’s external and internal agencies. Germans considered the Soviet intelligence agency to be the best organized and most efficient in the world. Walter Schellenberg, Hitler’s chief of Counterintelligence, acknowledged in his memoirs the excellence, effectiveness and efficiency of the Soviet agency, its methods of operation and its organization. There was not only close cooperation between the Gestapo and the NKVD, there was also military collaboration between Berlin and Moscow.

Germany also learned from Moscow’s military officers. Top German officers were admitted to the Soviet Military Academy. As we know, Hitler’s military build-up required oil, food products, metals, and other raw materials and Moscow had plenty to offer. At that time Berlin and Moscow had close economic and political ties.  Sixty-two percent of Soviet exports went to Germany. This Soviet assistance allowed Hitler to bypass the British blockade. Hitler and Stalin were partners with the same view of the world. Hitler was planning his ”thousand years of the German Reich” and Stalin planned a global government under the auspices of the Soviet Union. Both were thinking globally and both were ready to use force to realize their visions.

Not surprisingly, they found a common language. A Nazi-Soviet economic agreement was signed on August 19, 1939. A mere week before the start of WWII, on August 23, 1939, a Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact was signed.  This Pact had a Secret Protocol, which was not published. The Secret Protocol .gave the Soviets three Baltic States: Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Poland was also to be divided between Germany and the Soviets. In world history, September 1, 1939 marks the beginning of WWII. I gave you the information about the events preceding the war as one of the tipping points. I did it to illustrate the Stalinist Agenda, his proclivity for double-dealing with any dictator, for you to assess Moscow’s role in the tragic consequences that WWII had brought to the world.

On June 22, 1941, when Germany was invading the Soviet Union, dozens of echelons loaded with oil, grain, and other raw materials were still headed to Germany. Stalin not only participated in changing the world map, he also created favorable conditions for Hitler to start WWII. I consider both Stalin and Hitler as two culprits, master manipulators, responsible for bringing the world to brutal destruction in war.

I started this series with the intention of helping you understand current world politics. I wanted you to connect some historic facts and be able to correctly assess world politics of the 21st century. You have already read about Arafat and the KGB. You know about the Soviet Mafia. Can you now connect all these links logically and chronologically? Can you at least see their ideological similarity?  I think these links have one ideological thread–Fascism. If you cannot connect the links, I hope the next two tipping points will help you see things more clearly.

The Forth Tipping Point

red cocaineIn one of my articles, I have already mentioned a brilliant book Red Cocaine: The Drugging of America, by Joseph D. Douglass, Jr. Clarion House, 1990. This is a book every decent man and woman in the world should read. The thoughtful research made by the author about the Soviet/Russian criminal activities, is mind boggling by its significance, considering the Soviets attempt to keep it secret. The systematic research of those criminal activities to spread the drugs throughout the world, presents a big picture of one of the fronts in the undeclared Stalin’s war against Western civilization, particularly against America. You know our unsuccessful war on drugs, now you will know where it is coming from. Here is a few citations, describing the Soviet design.

“The plan instructed …strategic intelligence to infiltrate different organized crime groups, as well as the Mafia in France, Italy, Austria, Latin America and Germany. The Italian Communist Party was used heavily in the infiltration operation. Twenty percent of the Italian police were members of the Communist Party. These members helped the Soviet Bloc intelligence agents infiltrate the Mafia. …Organized crime operations were developed around information collection and blackmail: it was a two-sided operation. Then, at the right opportunity, information would be released for political reasons…to trigger revolutionary changes, or to create a situation that could be exploited by the Social Democrats. …the operation was organized within the unit responsible for strategic intelligence—it was used for strategic advantage.”

“Narcotics, terrorism, and organized crime were coordinated and used together in a complementary fashion. Narcotics were used to destroy the society. Terrorism was used to destabilize the country and prepare the revolutionary situation. Organized crime was used to control the elite. All three were long-range strategic operations and all three were incorporated into Soviet Bloc planning by 1956…”  This is the best description of the Stalin’s Agenda, its strategy and tactics in the war against Western civilization. Now, when you know the Soviet Mafia, and how it operates.

The Fifth Tipping Point

Those who read in my preceding articles about Stalin’s strategy to fight the West perhaps remember my stressing the importance to that strategy of recruitment and infiltration into foreign governments, security forces and intelligence agencies. Stalin personally mapped out that part of the agenda in the 1920s. Let me bring you now into the 21st century. A couple of days ago my eyes were attracted by a headline reading “Double Agent Sold Names to Russia” (CNN.com/world, July 24, 2007). The article told a very sad story about the killing of seven Spanish agents in Baghdad in November 2003. I began looking for more information about the case and found interesting details in “Russia’s spy in Spain on Trial”  by Robert AmsterdamThe article reports that this trial is “unprecedented in the history of democratic Spain.”

The Spanish secret agent Robert Flores Garcia was recruited by the Russian FSB (KGB) and sold hundreds of secret Spanish documents. A consultant in the Russian Embassy in Madrid, Petr Melnikov, was in constant contact with Flores. Apparently Melnikov is one of the top three most important operatives running espionage operations for the SVR (also KGB). Before his arrest Flores delivered to the Russians five big boxes filled with classified documentation, all of it collected by Flores during his 13-year career in the Spanish secret service.

The leak of these materials posed “a grave danger to national security and defense” said the prosecutor in the trial. Remember that the seven Spanish agents who were killed worked for the Spanish military fighting the insurgency in Baghdad. Please pay attention to the logical connections here—the Russian got the information about seven Spanish security agents from a Spaniard and then the seven security agents were murdered by the Iraqi insurgency… It is hard to miss the direct connection between the insurgents and the Russians. Do you think that this was a coincidence? It seems clear to me that the killings were a well-calculated terrorist act, where the Russians were also a party to the murders.

I have another reason for not believing it was pure chance. A similar event happened again in 2010 when CIA agents working in Afghanistan were killed. Somebody passed information to the Taliban or al-Qaeda and the agents were killed shortly after arrival to Afghanistan. My main reason for believing that these killings were more than coincidence is my knowledge of the Stalinist Agenda and the history of Afghanistan and Russia. One of the Agenda’s objectives is to force America to overstretch its military power by creating multiple global battlefields. First we had Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, now it is the Middle East, Libya, Syria, and Iraq–a lead up to the newly declared ISIS Caliphate.

Now, let’s come back to the year 2014 and research again our recent military casualties under Obama plus all the Obama scandals. As a matter of fact, you will be unable to find out the truth about Benghazi or current invasion of illegal children from Center America to our country, without knowledge of Stalinist ideology. All of that is by design: escalation of the war in the Mideast close to Israel, and all other Obama’s scandals are coordinated and executed by a collaboration with our foremost enemy–Russia.
