Jihadi John – and Cage – Uncovered

There are days when your areas of expertise are quiet. And then there are weeks when it feels like the whole news cycle is dedicated to justifying your existence. This has been such a week.

Every single day in the last week, even more than in an average week these days, Henry Jackson Society staff have been on the front line of the ideological battle of our time: both in the news and behind the news. On Sunday we were once again on the front pages of the newspapers with a story revealing the extortion of money for terrorist purposes in the North of England. Then we saw days of revelations about further terrorist connections in the UK. And then the news-cycle landed slap bang in the centre of one of our major areas of expertise.

The group ‘Cage‘ has been on our radar for years. The ostensible ‘human rights group’ claims to defend Guantanamo detainees. In reality it is a pro-terrorist charity which campaigns for nearly all convicted Islamic terrorists to be released from prison whether in America, Britain, France or further afield. For years we have monitored and exposed their activities and attempted to chase them out from venues they seek to find support in. Our researchers have regularly attended Cage events both openly and undercover.

Foremost among the venues we have been concerned about are our universities. And that is why our campus outreach project – Student Rights – has been at the forefront of exposing and attempting to limit the operations of Cage. In addition, our researchers have repeatedly found themselves in TV and radio studios with representatives of Cage. Some of these encounters have been outstandingly unpleasant.

Yet once again our focus was vindicated this week when it transpired that the lead Islamic State beheader, ‘Jihadi John’ is a 26 year old British man called Mohammed Emwazi who was involved with Cage. The heads of Cage now seem to have outed and exposed themselves for the whole world to see. Not least by appearing to cry with emotion for their friend in a press conference while describing him as ‘beautiful’ and ‘gentle’. And also by one of their members refusing – on live TV – to condemn Emwazi’s beheadings. Perhaps there will be more awareness today than there was last week about what Cage have been trying to do and the sort of people they are. But we at HJS were there in the fallow years when the mainstream media from left to right presented these terror apologists as human rights campaigners and broadcaster after broadcaster seemed to swallow their deceitful narrative whole.

It is not a coincidence, nor a lucky strike. We have been onto Jihadi John’s friends at Cage because they have been operating in plain sight. It is just such a shame that we are among the only organisations to have spent recent years with our eyes wide open trying to encourage our societies to open up their eyes too.

EDITORS NOTE: Below is a video done Asim Qureshi, Research Director for Cage, on Cage’s long term relationship with Mohammed Emwazi (Jihadi John). Qureshi tries to minimize the damage to Cage. Note the dark mark on the forehead of Qureshi. That mark is an indicator that Qureshi is fully shariah compliant and prays the required five times a day vigorously. The dark mark is from his forehead hitting the floor as he prays.
