We need to harden our families, not our schools

We are hearing various politicians and influential citizens saying that we “need to harden our schools.” The implication is that more security equals greater safety. This approach, like all government approaches, deals with a symptom not the cause. We do not need to turn our schools, colleges and universities into fortresses. Rather we need to take responsibility for the policies that have caused our schools to become killing free zones.

We as Americans must understand that it is we, collectively, who by omission or commission are the cause. The result is dead school kids.

Rod Thompson in his column Florida Shooting Shows Government Cannot Protect Americans wrote:

The real blame in this atrocity — after the deranged shooter himself, never forget that — is the total collapse of the governmental institutions charged with protecting the defenseless students collected into an unprotected public school.

The solution is not more government hardening. The solution is more profound than that. The solution requires a societal sea change. The solution requires thinking outside the reactive box of every crisis demands more government legislation. The new thinking is going back to insure and secure the future of  America and its citizens.

How do we harden our families?

What is different today than when I grew up? There was a bourgeois (middle class) culture.

In an August 9th, 2017 Philadelphia Inquirer article titled Paying the price for breakdown of the country’s bourgeois culture Amy Wax and Larry Alexander defined America’s bourgeois culture. Wax and Alexander wrote,

That [bourgeois] culture laid out the script we all were supposed to follow:

Get married before you have children and strive to stay married for their sake. Get the education you need for gainful employment, work hard, and avoid idleness. Go the extra mile for your employer or client. Be a patriot, ready to serve the country. Be neighborly, civic-minded, and charitable. Avoid coarse language in public. Be respectful of authority. Eschew substance abuse and crime.

When I grew up in a bourgeois, middle class, family. I had a mother, father and my two brothers. The key word is father. A father hardens the family.

Daniel Patrick Moynihan, American politician, sociologist, diplomat and member of the Democratic Party said,

There is one unmistakable lesson in American history; a community that allows a large number of young men to grow up in broken families, dominated by women, never acquiring any stable relationship to male authority, never acquiring any set of rational expectations about the future – that community asks for and gets chaos.

In an Education Next article written in 1965 titled Moynihan and the Single-Parent Family James T. Patterson wrote:

Moynihan, a man of his time, believed that fathers must ordinarily be the breadwinners in American families, and he had much to say about “illegitimacy” (the word generally used at the time to identify out-of-wedlock pregnancy). The percentage of white births in the U.S. that was illegitimate, he wrote, had inched upward from 2 percent in 1940 to 3 percent in 1963. The black percentage, however, had jumped during these years from 16.8 percent to 23.6 percent, thereby remaining roughly eight times higher than among whites. Black divorce rates, too, had increased: in 1940 these had been the same for blacks and whites, but by 1964 the nonwhite (here as elsewhere he meant Negro) percentage had become 40 percent higher than that among whites. The result, he wrote, was that “Almost One-Fourth of Negro Families are Headed by Females.”

Sadly, that number has only increased over the years.

American educator, activist and author of seven books on men’s and women’s issues Dr. Warren Thomas Farrell Ph.D. did the video below titled What Do All School Shooters Have in Common?. Dr. Farrell explains the root cause of “all” school shootings.

What is the Solution?

Reward success and stop subsidizing failure. Put the Father back into the family as a national policy and social imperative. Make the traditional family the ideal, the pinnacle of our society.

The real issue is the “father enriched” son and the “father impoverished” son. The first boy will grow into becoming a good man and good father. The impoverished boy will turn into a burden of society. It is critical to reward the father enriched family. To do otherwise leads to chaos.

The traditional family unit consisting of a biological father, mother and their children is the bedrock upon which all societies and cultures succeed (watch the below interview with Dr. Farrell). Since the 1960s multiple attacks on the traditional family have become the new normal, creating abnormal children. Whether it is giving welfare to fatherless homes, to redefining the family, to national policy that denigrates men and boys. The #MeToo movement is simply a reaction to what was inevitable, the ideal of men who use women as objects rather than respecting them as seen on television and in Hollywood films.

Men must become men once again. Boys are biological men in the making. To be gender confused is a dagger into the very heart and soul of the traditional family.

Time to put FATHER back into the FAMILY.
