The World’s Greatest Mass Murderer is ‘Gun Control’ — 170 Million Dead and Counting

Who is the greatest mass murderer? History tells us that it is gun control. Who has a monopoly on violence? History tells us it is government. Who imposes gun control? The state. Why does the state impose gun control? To control its citizens.

Professor emeritus of political science at the University of Hawaii Rudolph Joseph Rummel (October 21, 1932 – March 2, 2014).

The University of Hawaii maintains a website based upon the teachings of Rudolph Joseph Rummel who was professor emeritus of political science at the University of Hawaii. He spent his career studying data on collective violence and war with a view toward helping their resolution or elimination. Professor Rummel coined the term “democide.” Democide is: “the murder of any person or people by a government, including genocide, politicide, and mass murder”.

A column titled “Democide: Understanding the State’s Monopoly on Violence and the Second Amendment” notes:

Gun control is predicated on the belief that private citizens cannot be trusted with firearms. That the state should have a “monopoly on violence” because it is less violent than individuals. And that firearms should be taken away from private citizens because only the state is responsible enough to handle them.

There is, however, a major problem with this: States are statistically far more violent than individuals. After all, in the 20th century alone, 262 MILLION people died at the hands of their own governments.

The term for this sort of atrocity is “democide.” It is one of the reasons the Founding Fathers included the Second Amendment in the U.S. Constitution – to allow citizens some form of protection against agents of a tyrannical government meaning to do them harm, as the Founders were forcibly disarmed as colonists by the British prior to the American Revolution.

History tells us that every genocide in modern history has started with gun registration, followed by confiscation, followed by genocide. Here are examples of gun control:

  • 1929: The Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929-1953, 20 million dissidents rounded up and murdered.
  • 1911: Turkey established gun control. From 1915-1917, 1.5 million Christian Armenians rounded up and exterminated.
  • 1938: Germany established gun control. From 1939-1945, 13 million Jews and others rounded up and exterminated.
  • 1935: China established gun control. From 1948-1952, 20 million political dissidents rounded up and exterminated.
  • 1964: Guatemala established gun control. From 1981-1984, 100,000 Mayan Indians rounded up and exterminated.
  • 1970: Uganda established gun control. From 1971-1979, 300,000 Christians rounded up and exterminated.
  • 1956: Cambodia established gun control. From 1975-1977, 1 million educated people rounded up and exterminated.

In the 20th Century more than 56 million defenseless people were rounded up and exterminated by people using gun control.

Jews For The Preservation of Firearms Ownership in a column titled “Death by Gun Control” reported:

In the 20th Century:

  • Governments murdered four times as many civilians as were killed in all the international and domestic wars combined.
  • Governments murdered millions more people than were killed by common criminals.

How could governments kill so many people? The governments had the power – and the people, the victims, were unable to resist. The victims were unarmed.

The book “Death by Gun Control: The Human Cost of Victim Disarmament” by attorneys Aaron Zelman and Richard W. Stevens presents this simple formula on gun control:

Hatred + Government + Disarmed Civilians = Genocide

“Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” – Lord Acton

“Power kills; absolute power kills absolutely.” – Rudolph Joseph Rummel

Gun control is the first tool used by tyrants to get and keep control of their people. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.

Democide is still occurring in the world. Lest we forget.
