Quinnipiac Poll on Florida Amendment 2: Misleading Question, Faulty Methodology

The Vote No on 2 Campaign today issued the following statement, attributed to its Spokesperson Sarah Bascom, in regards to the Quinnipiac Poll released today on Amendment 2.

“Why won’t Quinnipiac ask whether or not voters support Amendment 2 – which is the only thing that will appear on the ballot?  That’s the real question.

“This poll has been, and continues to be, a complete outlier in support of medical marijuana because it asks a question that won’t be on the ballot.  Amendment 2 doesn’t require a doctor’s prescription.

“Even the recent poll by the Yes on 2 campaign shows significantly less support for their own Amendment than this poll that relies on misleading wording and flawed methodology.”

Background

Quinnipiac’s methodology appears to show that they are not concerned with historical voting patterns commonly used to predict election outcomes.  Here’s a sample of just a few data points.

2012  Florida Turnout       2010 Florida Turnout        2014 Quinnipiac model

39% Republican                    46% Republican                    28% Republican

40% Democrat                        38% Democrat                      31% Democrat

21% Independent                 16% Independent               32% Independent

13% – 18-29                               5% – 18-29                              15% – 18-29
