CAIR: Kissing the Pig and Lovin’ It

Eating bacon. My grandkids love it. Full disclosure: I’m a fan too. But some people don’t like it. Too greasy. Too fattening. Too salty. Some even complain the aroma gets into the furniture.

Other people hate bacon for entirely different reasons.

It offends them. It violates them. It can lead them directly to hell.

The leaders of the Council for American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) are an example of people who squeal at the sight of a swine’s belly. CAIR even wants to turn bacon into a crime if it’s intentionally laid at the doorstep of a mosque.

“This type of attempted desecration must be investigated as an act of intimidation and hate, and the perpetrators must be brought to justice,” said CAIR National Communications Director Ibrahim Hooper back in December.Personally, I’d be more like: Hey! Free bacon.

CAIR has been making this ridiculous argument about criminal meat for nearly a year now, in case after case in which some misguided soul thinks bacon has the power of Kryptonite over Muslims.

Admittedly, using bacon as some sort of cosmic Shazam! against Muslims is stupid, childish and irresponsible. But so is the response of CAIR and many other leaders in the Muslim community.

Turning a prank into a hate crime – with a sentence that can exceed a decade – is like putting someone in jail for bringing garlic to a vampire festival.

This is superstition and nothing more.  It’s as silly as ringing bells to frighten away evil spirits at a wedding, being phobic about stepping on cracks in the sidewalk or believing a photograph can somehow steal a person’s soul.

Nowhere in the Quran does it say that the sight, touch or smell of bacon – or any other pork product – desecrates a person or a mosque.

If this were the case, no Muslim would ever work in an American supermarket, or at a Wendy’s, or wash their hands in a public bathroom, as virtually all soap contains pork gelatin.

Pork products can be found in the shells of medicine capsules, insulin, toothpaste, crayons, ice cream and hundreds of other items used globally on a daily basis. Can a Muslim ever avoid handling a sheet of paper? Pork bones are used to give paper its stiffness.

Only the consumption of pork products is haram (forbidden) in the Quran.

What CAIR wants is to turn a superstition –  a prank – into a crime. This is about as absurd as putting someone in jail for throwing a black cat across your path.

Only CAIR has a political purpose here, and not a religious one.

They want Muslims to become mired in the mud of victimization, just like the hapless farm pigs they fear so much. With victimization comes special rights and laws. It brings sensational news headlines, political power, sympathy, and what they cherish most, accusations of hate.

The pig, which they so disdain, has in fact become their friend, their co-conspirator and their weapon of choice in a shallow, fanciful campaign to gain empathy from the American public – and see their opponents punished under the law.

CAIR is now kissing the pig and loving it.

It’s a strategy that will work on some, notably the political-leaning left, who cry “hate” over something as un-hateful as saying a person should use the biologically appropriate bathroom.

But for the rest of Americans – the sane ones, the intelligent ones and, yes, the normal ones – CAIR’s campaign to criminalize a superstition is nothing more than a stupidcision.

Here’s another crucial point: If Islam is so weak that the mere sight, smell or touch of a piece of pork can desecrate the soul, then maybe it’s best that the faithful find a new religion quickly because pork is everywhere, like the air we breathe.

With its ludicrous interpretation of the Quran, CAIR is showing us what radical Muslims demonstrate to us every day: With a little slicing, dicing and grinding, the Quran can be turned into religious sausage – all mixed up and able to be squished and stuffed into any form.

Anyone feeding at the trough of CAIR better understand that they’re getting hogwash.

As a long time bacon lover, I think the idiocy of CAIR is extreme. However their desire to make something as ubiquitous as pork the subject of unending law suits is beyond the pale. For over 200 years Americans welcomed people from around the world who wanted to become Americans and contribute to American society. CAIR doesn’t want that. They desire to force US to submit to their ways. My answer: no sharia law, no radical Islamist refugees, no open borders, NO illegal immigrants. Go back to Iran, Iraq, Syria and whatever hellholes you cam from. We will do fine without you.
