Many of our readers are familiar with the political satire of artist and author of Shakedown Socialism Oleg Atbashian. We have had the privilege of having Oleg and his team at The Peoples Cube as contributors.
Oleg emigrated from the former Soviet Union to the United States and became a naturalized citizen. Since his arrival he has been a strong voice exposing the elite and powerful using agitprop, something he learned was effective in influencing the hearts and minds of the young in Communist countries.
Now Oleg is facing Kafkaesque style oppression much like what he faced in the former Soviet Union. This time it is for supporting Israel by putting up agitprop posters on the campus of George Mason University.
Oleg understands full well that American college students have fallen victim to political correctness, something used effectively by Joseph Stalin to silence opposition.
In his FrontPage Magazine column Pro-Israel Artist Threatened with 5 years in jail for Anti-Terror Posters at GMU Daniel Greenfield writes:
It’s not a story out of the Soviet Union though Oleg Atbashian, an artist, activist and commentator, had gotten in trouble for defying the authorities there too.
“Back in my Soviet dissident days, when I was collecting signatures in defense of Andrei Sakharov, I was screamed at, threatened, and lectured by the KGB and Communist funcionaries. What I never imagined was that in the United States, the land of the free, I would not only be subjected to similar treatment, but go to jail,” Oleg writes.
But that’s exactly what happened to him.

When Steven Salaita lost his cushy academic gig for celebrating assault on Jews, the media turned out vocally in his support. But when George Mason University calls out the dogs for protests against anti-Semitism and does its best to intimidate and brutalize a Soviet dissident, there is a great echoing silence
In its op-ed column Freedom Center Posters Hit UCLA Campus Terrorist Supporters: Latest Stop The Jew Hatred On Campus campaign launches in Los Angeles the FrontPage Magazine noted:
On Tuesday night, the David Horowitz Freedom Center launched its newest campaign exposing the terrorist support groups currently thriving on American college campuses. The launch site in this effort was UCLA, where dozens of posters linking Students for Justice in Palestine to their terrorist heroes were placed on campus. A collection of several of the UCLA posters can be seen below. The campaign corresponds to the release of the Freedom Center’s new report identifying the Top Ten Schools Supporting Terrorists.
The Jewish Voice reports:
For those of us who grew up in Brooklyn in the 1960s and 70s and for those of us who decided to linger a bit longer in the County of Kings before taking the proverbial plunge into the big world out there, many of us ended up at good ol’ Brooklyn College.
Decades ago, however, this veritable Brooklyn institution boasted an integrated student population and crafted an enduring legacy as a campus that heralded the right of free speech, thought and assembly.
Not so, anymore. Apparently, the proverbial compass of time has pointed Brooklyn College in the “politically correct” trajectory as have most other urban centers for higher learning. For those not in the know, that essentially means that a fascist flavor now dominates campus political life. As such, Muslim organizations (among others) have sealed their pact with leftist totalitarian groups in order to “shut down any opposing viewpoints” and to “not allow any dissenting ideas to be publicly expressed,” says David Horowitz. A stalwart champion of free speech and founder of the eponymously named David Horowitz Freedom Center, Horowitz is one of the lone voices in the wilderness in offering an alternative narrative to the liberal, leftist, anti-Semitic ideologies that are taught on college campuses today and are being passed off to a naïve generation as the unadulterated truth.
The battle for the hearts and minds of our youth must take place on college campuses nationwide. They must be given the other side of the story, and only then can they make up their minds. The choice is between Individualism and Collectivism.
Oleg understands the clear and present dangers of Collectivism. He is a warrior on the side of Individualism.
We wish Oleg well. #FreeOleg
