OUR GOAL – Truth to the Masses

Let’s set the record straight about what our goal is.

If you had only heard about Project Veritas through news outlets like CNN or the New York Times, you’d think “why would anybody support James O’Keefe? Deception is dishonest!”

Occasionally, we take time from our undercover operations to educate the public about undercover journalism and its rich history. A few weeks ago James appeared on CSPAN’s Washington Journal and explained Project Veritas’ work in the greater context of our 20th century journalistic forebears.

“If you look at the 20th century, people like Mike Wallace, Upton Sinclair, who went undercover as a meatpacker, or Nellie Bly on Roosevelt Island in NYC who feigned insanity, or William Gaines who won the Pulitzer Prize for going undercover as a janitor in Chicago hospitals, all these people used deception. The reason they did that is because they believed the most important thing is to tell the truth to the masses.

Many in the media would have you believe that because we use deception to gain access to the subjects of our investigations, that our journalism is untruthful. In reality, we deceive in order not to be deceived. The aliases we use gain access to real, unfiltered information that we then present directly to the public.

Undercover work is nothing new; revolutionary reporters in the 20th century such as Nellie Bly and William Gaines paved the way for the work we do.

The whole 30-minute video where James discusses these topics can be found on CSPAN’s website, and we have some highlights posted on our own websiteYouTube, and our social media channels. It’s important to inspire and educate future generations of undercover reporters, so please take a few minutes to watch and share these videos.
