Mumford & Sons guitarist Winston Marshall bowed to the woke social media mob on Tuesday, taking to Twitter to apologize for praising independent journalist Andy Ngo and promoting his new book exposing the domestic terror group Antifa.
“Over the past few days I have come to better understand the pain caused by the book I endorsed,” Marshall tweeted in a statement. “I have offended not only a lot of people I don’t know, but also those closest to me, including my bandmates and for that I am truly sorry. As a result of my actions I am taking time away from the band to examine my blindspots.”
“For now, please know that I realise how my endorsements have the potential to be viewed as approvals of hateful, divisive behaviour. I apologise, as this was not at all my intention,” he added.
On Saturday, Marshall put a target on his back by tweeting support for Ngo’s new book, Unmasked: Inside Antifa’s Radical Plan to Destroy Democracy: “Congratulations @MrAndyNgo. Finally had the time to read your important book. You’re a brave man.” In the subsequent backlash from Cancel Culture, Marshall revealed himself to be not so brave, groveling before today’s equivalent of the Chinese Revolution’s Red Guard.
Ngo responded on Twitter (albeit not naming Marshall explicitly): “I grieve for those who are made to suffer because they dare to read my work, or talk to me. The danger of Antifa & their allies is not only their willingness to carry out or support maiming, killing & terrorism—but also how they close curious minds from independent thought.”

Antifa Plays Major Role in Nationwide Riots Following the Death of George Floyd
In the aftermath of the May 25, 2020 death of George Floyd — a black man who had died after being abused by a white police officer in Minneapolis — a number of U.S. cities were overrun by violent riots in which Antifa played a major role. As Fox News has reported: “Antifa sent the word out far and wide to burn buildings, loot stores, destroy cars and attack law enforcement officers.” And Antifa members – who often traveled from far-flung locations to meet up with their allies in sites that had been pre-selected for rioting – coordinated their violent efforts in a very organized way. U.S. Attorney General William Barr alluded to this when he stated: “Groups of outside radicals and agitators are exploiting the situation to pursue their own separate and violent agenda. In many places, it appears the violence is planned, organized, and driven by anarchic left extremist groups — far-left extremist groups using Antifa-like tactics, many of whom travel from outside the state to promote the violence.” U.S. National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien concurred that the violence “is being driven by Antifa,” whose constituent groups “are organized and use Molotov cocktails and fireworks and gas to burn down our cities.”
