Multiple Biden Calamities Make 9/11 Commission Report ‘Required Reading’

That multiple Biden policies and decisions have undermined national security and public safety has not been a surprise to anyone capable of being objective.

Consider Biden’s disastrous immigration policies that include eliminating border security and gutting the enforcement of our immigration laws from within the interior of the United States.

As a consequence of these policies unprecedented numbers of illegal aliens from countries around the world, were emboldened and encouraged to flock to the United States thus overwhelming the Border Patrol and also overwhelming the entire immigration system across our entire nation.  Among the millions of aliens who entered the United States were criminals and terrorists.

Our open borders have also enabled huge quantities of deadly illegal drugs to flow freely across our nation resulting in the deaths of record numbers of Americans.

Contrary to the bald-faced lies of Alejandro Mayorkas, the Secretary of the DHS (Department of Homeland Security) that our borders are secure, on March 15, 2023 The House Homeland Security Committee held a field hearing in McAllen, Texas, on the crisis on the border.

Incredibly no Democrat attended that hearing even though the Democrats did provide a witness for that hearing.  Joe Biden actually referred to that hearing as a “political stunt!”

C-SPAN posted a video of that hearing:

House Homeland Security Committee Field Hearing on Border Security, Part 1

Here is a brief video clip from that C-SPAN video of a statement by U.S. Border Patrol Chief Raul L. Ortiz about the issue of border security:

Furthermore aliens do not only enter the United Stated by crossing our southern border and once in the United Staes an abject lack of interior enforcement means that aliens who violate our immigration laws have absolutely nothing to fear.

As I noted in a recent article:

Crisis On The Southern Border: Only The Tip of Biden’s Immigration Iceberg

Now let’s turn our attention to how Biden withdrew our military forces from Afghanistan, literally overnight, while leaving behind billions of dollars of U.S. military hardware and weaponry, capped off by the subsequent release of thousands of terrorists.

I articulate my concerns about the confluence of these two disastrous Biden calamities in two articles published in August 2022:

Biden’s Catastrophic Policies: Immigration and Afghanistan

Biden’s Afghanistan Catastrophe Increases Terror Threat in US

It now seems that because of Biden’s disastrous policies the terrorists are “coming home to roost.”

On March 16, 2023 Stars and Stripes Magazine published a worrisome article, ISIS in Afghanistan capable of foreign attacks in 6 months, CENTCOM commander says, that began with this except:

WASHINGTON — The Islamic State network in Afghanistan will be able to attack American or Western interests outside the country in less than six months “with little to no warning,” the top commander for U.S. forces in the Middle East said Thursday.

Army Gen. Michael Kurilla, who leads U.S. Central Command, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that the Islamic State’s Khorasan Province, commonly referred to as ISIS-K, is rapidly developing the ability to conduct “external operations” in Europe and Asia.

The terrorist group will not be able to strike the U.S. homeland in the near future, however.

“I think it is a higher probability overseas than it is in the homeland,” Kurilla said, acknowledging hundreds of thousands of U.S. citizens living abroad could be in range of an attack.

The general’s assessment comes more than a year after U.S. troops withdrew from Afghanistan in August 2021 and adopted an “over-the-horizon” counterterrorism approach that collects intelligence and carries out strikes without a permanent military presence in the country.

Even before the stupefyingly flawed manner in which our troops were withdrawn from Afghanistan by the Biden Administration, the “All Clear” concerning the threat of terror attacks had not sounded.  Indeed, since the terror attacks of 9/11 there had been numerous terror plots devised by foreign terrorists in the United States that resulted in loss of life while others failed for a number of reasons.

Furthermore while General Kurilla stated that he did not think that an attack on U.S. soil is imminent, given the huge numbers of aliens who have entered the United States including more than one million “Got-Aways” – aliens who evaded the Border Patrol.  (On January 22, 2023 Fox News reported: Border agents confirm 1.2 million ‘gotaway’ migrants under Biden administration.)

Our nation’s borders and immigration laws constitute America’s first line of defense and last line of defense.  A review of a section of the Immigration and Nationality Act, 8 U.S. Code § 1182 (Inadmissible Aliens) enumerates the categories of aliens who may not be admitted into the United State and makes it clear that immigration law enforcement has nothing to do with race, religion or ethnicity but is focused on protection public safety, national security and the jobs and wages of American workers.

Nevertheless, since even before being sworn into office, Joe Biden made it clear that as President he would not secure our borders or enforce our immigration laws, thereby encouraging unprecedented levels of illegal immigration and the influx of record quantities of illegal deadly drugs such as fentanyl, meth and other drugs to flow freely into the United States leading to the deaths of more than 100,000 people to drug poisoning annually.

My December 7, 2020 commentary, Biden’s DHS: Department of Homeland Surrender, was predicated on the announcement that Alejandro Mayorkas would be the incoming Biden Administration’s pick for Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).  Mayorkas’ performance at the DHS during the the Obama administration evidenced repeated examples of malfeasance.

The bi-partisan 9/11 Commission was created in the wake of the deadly terror attacks of September 11, 2001 to “connect the dots” and identify the multiple vulnerabilities the terrorists exploited to enter the United States and launch the deadliest terror attacks ever carried out on U.S. soil.

Therefore The 9/11 Commission Report and the official companion report, 9/11 and  Terrorist Travel should be “mandatory reading” for the President, the Vice President and every cabinet officer and their high-ranking deputies.  Those reports should also be mandatory ready for every member of the House and Senate and their senior staffers.  Finally those reports should be on the mandatory reading list for every governor, mayor and police chief.

The findings and recommendations of the 9/11 Commission should have served as the guidebook for actions of every administration since the 9/11 Commission made their findings and recommendations known.

This is not unlike the ways that other such investigative commissions were created to prevent future disasters.  For example, commissions were created to discover how and why two space shuttles were lost in tragic accidents.  As a result of the findings of those commissions changes were made to the shuttles and operating procedures were modified..

When airliners crash the FAA and the NTSB investigate the cause(s) of every crash to see if changed nee to be made in the way airplanes are constructed, maintained and flown.

The point is to learn from what goes wrong.  My dad taught me that in life things that go wrong should be viewed not simply as mistakes, but as lessons that teach us how to do things better and safer.  However, for my dad, it was unforgivable and inexcusable to refuse to learn from mistakes.

The point to this exercise was not just to answer a multitude of questions, but to devise strategies to close the gaping holes in various system to prevent future such attacks.

Instead, particularly where immigration-related issues were concerned, each administration, with the exception of the Trump administration, utterly ignored the 9/11 Commission and, indeed, frequently implemented policies that were diametrically opposed to those findings and recommendations.

This brings us to the Biden administration, particularly where the administration’s immigration policies are concerned.  It would seem that the Biden administration has made the willful decision to devise and promulgate policies, with impunity,  that are in direct opposition to the findings and recommendations of the 9/11 Commission.

Individuals who hold positions of authority make decisions that cause injury and/or death are held accountable.  Think of how police officers are investigated and, when appropriate, prosecuted.  Think about the ramifications that doctors and health care professionals face when they are found guilty of medical malpractice.

Drivers who drive under the influence and/or drive recklessly also face severe consequences, especially when their actions kill or injure others.

Should not politicians who govern recklessly or demonstrate blatant malfeasance governing “under the influence” of campaign contributions or morally bankrupt political ideologies to garner political power that undermine national security, public safety and cost innocent victims their very lives be similarly held accountable?

In the weeks and months after the terror tracks of 9/11 there was no shortage of politicians who flocked to podiums festooned with a forest of microphones, eager to stare into the television cameras, thump the podium and demanded, “Why did no one connect the dots?”

The 9/11 Commission and the reports it produced certainly connected the dots.  Many congressional hearings were also convened to “connect the dots”- in point of fact I was called to testify before quite a few of those very hearings.

Now politicians who blatantly ignore the 9/11 Commission and its findings must be held accountable before the next terror attack.
