A Jewish Tale of Two Sisters born on December 25th

On this blessed night before Chanukah, December 25, let us all tell and retell the Jewish tale of two sisters ….

Once upon this Earth, there were born two beautiful baby girls on the same day, December 25, but many years apart; though the years never separated their hearts from each other. And so they grew closer and closer, even when the geographic distance between them was many hundreds of miles, but miles were just milestones in their love for one another.

In multitudes of ways, they were different — one very quiet and shy and the other a starlet with outstanding humor, one married to a newspaper man on the east coast with three brilliant boys to raise and the other married to a Holocaust Survivor in the Midwest with two bright children, one with years of medical crises and the other more healthy until her senior years.

Neither distance nor difference made any difference in this tale of two sisters birthed by infinite mother-love and steadfast in their united souls one to the other. At the end of one’s life, the other was nearby to comfort and heap a lifetime of love upon her suffering sister; and so the tale of two sisters has left a timeless legacy of devotion for all to emulate and send forth to their descendants through the eternity of the Jewish People ….
