The oldest American lived 117 years, so why are we paying $12.38 billion in Social Security Administration monthly benefits to people who are 120+ years old?

After Elon Musk’s team took  a look at our Social Security system and found that it was paying people who are more than 120 years old monthly benefits we decided to do some research on who was the oldest American citizen, ever. Then we looked at the costs of paying monthly benefits to those over that age.

According to Statista, At the grand old age of 118, Lucile Randon died in January 2023, passing on the crown of oldest living person to the U.S. – born Spanish woman Maria Branyas Morera – born in 1907 and died at the age of 117 years old.

database maintained by the Gerontology Research Group reveals that France and Japan have produced the largest share of the world’s oldest supercentenarians. Women invariably dominate the top end of the list, too. The oldest man to have ever lived, Japan‘s Jiroemon Kimura, was 116 when he died in 2013.

Here’s a chart of the oldest people who ever lived by country.

So why did Elon Musk’s DOGE team find the following?

The Social Security Administration is paying benefits to:

  • 3,472,849 people aged 120-129 years old receiving Social Security benefits
  • 3,936,311 people aged 130-139 years old receiving Social Security benefits
  • 3,542,044 people aged 140-149 years old receiving Social Security benefits
  • 1,345,083 people aged 150-159 years old receiving Social Security benefits
  • 121,807 people aged 160-169 years old receiving Social Security benefits
  • 6,087 people aged 170-179 years old receiving Social Security benefits
  • 695 people aged 180-189 years old receiving Social Security benefits
  • 448 people aged 190-199 years old receiving Social Security benefits
  • 879 people aged 200-209 years old receiving Social Security benefits
  • 866 people aged 210-219 years old receiving Social Security benefits
  • 1,039 people aged 220-229 years old receiving Social Security benefits
  • 1 person aged 240-249 years old receiving Social Security benefits
  • 1 person aged 360-369 years old receiving Social Security benefits

TOTAL: 12,383,110

These are the numbers of people in each age bucket with the death field set to FALSE!

As of August 2024, the average Social Security check is $1,783.55 per monthaccording to the Social Security Administration (SSA).

If you multiply the number of people over the age of 120 by a conservative $1,000 a month in SSA benefits you get $12,383,110,000 monthly in fraudulent paymments!

There are some who are in Washington, D.C. protesting today against Elon Musk and President Trump for exposing government fraud, waste and abuse.

Come on. Be sensible. Just the fact he is claiming there are 360 year olds in the system should tell you he’s lying. Social Security numbers themselves didn’t even exist before the 1930’s so how would there even be a 360 year old in the system? Not only that, a simple search of the social security database’s publicly accessible data shows Elon is lying. That and he hasn’t been granted access yet.
Real numbers: less than 90,000 people total age 99 or older are collecting social security benefits.

If you think that’s bad look at the ages of people on the registered voting lists by state. There are enough to turn an election. If false identities are created from death records it would be simple to scrub these lists for the absurd (over 120) and question those over 100 one time.
Another screen is any new registration of persons over 80 who have never been on government lists before. Identity theft is easy if the government is stupid.
