Congressman, and U.S. Army Veteran, Greg Steube’s Bills in Support of Our Veterans and Their Families

In an email reply to us, fellow veteran and Congressman Greg Steube wrote:

Thank you for sharing your thoughts regarding support for our nation’s veterans. I appreciate you taking the time to contact me about this important matter.

Though we will never be able to fully repay our nation’s veterans, providing them with access to quality health care, education, and career opportunities serves as an effective starting point. I am staunchly opposed to any measures that hinder veterans’ ability to obtain the care they deserve, including out of pocket expenses for veterans using Tricare. With a district home to more than 65,000 veterans, one of my greatest priorities in Congress has been working towards innovative solutions to modernize and reform the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). I was delighted that legislation I introduced, the Free Veterans from Fees Act, was signed into law on December 29, 2022. This legislation waives the application fee for applications for special use permits for veterans’ special events at war memorials on land administered by the National Park Service in the District of Columbia and its environs. This legislation will help foster a culture in America in which all veterans are valued for their service to our nation. Additionally, I have introduced the following bills this Congress to address the unmet needs of our nation’s veterans:

  •  H.R. 214 – Veterans’ True Choice Act
  • H.R. 393 – Modern GI Bill Act
  • H.R. 394 – Veterans Cannabis Use for Safe Healing Act
  • H.R. 395 – Time of Service Act

Moreover, I cosponsored several bills in the 117th Congress supporting veterans, including:

  • H.R. 217 – Improving Confidence in Veterans’ Care Act
  • H.R. 855 – Veterans Expedited TSA Screening Safe Travel Act
  • H.R. 1022 – Puppies Assisting Wounded Servicemembers Act
  • H.R. 1355 – K2 Veterans Care Act
  • H.R. 1448 – Puppies Assisting Wounded Servicemembers for Veterans Therapy Act
  • H.R. 1476 – PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Peer Support Program Act
  • H.R. 2127 – Toxic Exposure in the American Military Act
  • H.Res. 270 – Expressing support for designation of a Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day
  • H.R. 2800 – Working to Integrate Networks Guaranteeing Member Access Now Act
  • H.R. 2910 – Veterans Health Care Freedom Act
  • H.R. 2916 – VA Medicinal Cannabis Research Act
  • H.R. 3368 – Lonnie Kilpatrick Central Pacific Relief Act
  • H.R. 3400 – VA Emergency Transportation Act
  • H.R. 4624 – Guaranteeing Healthcare Access to Personnel Who Served Act
  • H.R. 5297 – National POW/MIA Memorial and Museum Act
  • H.R. 5754 – Patient Advocate Tracker Act
  • H.R. 6421 – VA Same-Day Scheduling Act
  • H.R. 6659 – Health Care for Burn Pit Veterans Act
  • H.J.Res. 102 – Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Department of Veterans Affairs relating to “Reproductive Health Services”

As a veteran myself, I assure you I take matters regarding the wellbeing of those who served very seriously and know the importance of listening to our nation’s veterans. All too often, our veterans are forgotten while much-needed reforms are pushed to the side. I look forward to continuing to champion the needs of our nation’s heroes and will be sure to keep your thoughts in mind should any legislation involving veterans come before me for a vote.

The Bottom Line

It is time for Congress to pass all of these bills that support and empower veterans and their families.

Our veterans served our nation and many gave the last full measure of devotion. Veterans and their family members deserve to be put first in the que of things to do in Congress, by both parties.
