THANKS for Thanksgiving
THANKS BE FOR Thanksgiving!
As we gather together to count the Lord’s blessings on this 403rd celebration of Thanksgiving, despite the host of struggles our nation faces and economic challenges in many of our homes – may we be thankful for harvests and harbors, harps and hearths, for heart surgery, harmonicas and health, as well as a host of even small blessings that have come our way this past year.
We are grateful, God of our Fathers for salads and salmon, for sales and Shaloms, for Shakespeare and schools that truly teach; for blue jeans that fade and dreams that don’t; we thank Thee, Lord.
O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, we voice our praises to you for progress we have each made and for proms and promotions. For “your baby’s just perfect” and “The surgery was a success,” and “You’re hired,” we thank thee.
God of grace and glory, we give thanks for electricity and elephants, for giants in their fields like Einstein and Edison, for elms, we offer thanks this season. And for debates and rebates, for tax refunds and our financial blessings in challenging times, for we acknowledge you as the “Lord who so loved the world and gave Your only begotten Son,” and for the meaning of “When in the course of human events” and “They lived happily ever after.” Thank you kindly.
Our father’s God to Thee, Author of Liberty, we offer thanks for the once-in-a-blue-moon moment or two. For yellow submarines and purple mountain majesties. For interns, blood banks, food banks and butterflies, atoms and ants and the ancient assurance that “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.”
Our thankful praise, Lord, for weddings and waffles and winks and woks. Also, for solar heating and lemon sales, anything chocolate and all things without calories. For homes and homecomings, for Christmas and crayons, for fleece and flamingos and flags, especially of our exceptional nation, we are truly grateful.
Lord of all, to Thee we raise our Thanksgiving praise for healing beyond hurt, for love beyond measure, for life and beyond life, mysteries beyond comprehending. But most of all we are grateful that “neither death, nor life…nor principalities nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature shall be able to separate us from your love, Lord, and that of your Heavenly Father.
THANK YOU AGAIN FOR HEARING OUR WORDS OF THANKSGIVING.
