Don was born May 5, 1948 and is a lifelong resident of Southwest Virginia. He is married to one wife (45 years) and has 3 children and 4 grandchildren (all girls). He has been an Insurance Advisor for over 30 years, most of the time with AXA Equitable and also worked with Wachovia Wealth Management (now Wells Fargo) from 2002 thru 2010.
Among his interests are golf, snow skiing, jet skiing, hiking and most outdoor activities. He regularly walks around 20-30 miles per week. He is also active in his church, Shenandoah Baptist, where he and his wife have been attending for 40 years. Don also played a key role (Nicodemus) in that church’s Annual Passion Play for over 20 years. This production was seen annually by 7-10,000 people who came from several outlying states to see this production. For the past 8 years, Don and his wife, Ruth Ann, have been a part of their church’s outreach ministry to Coyner Springs, a juvenile detention center for area youths where they are involved in a teaching and discipleship ministry.
He remains active in politics, attending state conventions, writing letters to the editor and going door to door for candidates. He describes himself as a Christian Conservative who no longer associates himself with the Republican Party but identifies more with the Tea Party movement and other Conservative groups who stand for limited government, low taxes and a return to Constitutional government.
He and his wife still live in Botetourt County where they have resided for the past 31 years.
