LTC Royal A. Brown III graduated from Stetson University Magna Cum Laude as a Distinguished Military Graduate with a Regular Army commission in June, 1969. In addition to his JROTC position as Brigade XO, Royal was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, the Student Senate, Omicron Delta Kappa, and was the 1968 Homecoming Committee Co-Chair.
He served the next 25 Years on active duty as an Airborne Ranger Commanding Infantry units from platoon to acting Brigade Commander and is a Vietnam combat veteran serving with the 101 st Airborne Division.
While earning an MBA at Golden Gate Univ, Royal was selected to attend the Naval Postgraduate School where he obtained a MS in Public Finance and later graduated from the Command and General Staff College and DOD Comptroller Course. He served as a certified Army Comptroller between Infantry assignments.
His final Army assignment was as a Staff Group Instructor of mid-grade officers at the Combined Arms Services and Staff School, US Army Command and General Staff College. After mentoring 13 Staff Groups, he was subsequently inducted into the CAS3 Instructor Hall of Fame.
Upon his retirement in 1994, Royal was selected as an Assistant Professor of Behavior Science and Assistant Director of Leadership at the Virginia Military Institute.
He was subsequently selected for a Doctoral Fellowship but returned to Florida to help his critically ill father. He then became the Senior Army Instructor, JROTC, at Winter Haven High School where he served until his second retirement in 2009.
