The rise of the ‘Trumpocrat’

Every presidential election is meaningful. The 2016 election cycle is filled with firsts, seconds and thirds. One of the firsts is an organized effort by registered Democrats to vote Republican. These crossover voters are called “Trumpocrats.”

In his column “Trumpocrats to Tour Rust Belt, Energize Democrats for Trump Against Hillary” Dan Riehl reports:

Life-long Democrat turned Trump supporter Christian Rickers, the Virginia-based executive director of the Trumpocrats PAC, told Breitbart’s Washington Political Editor Matthew Boyle that “Hillary Clinton is not representing any of the working people.”

“She’s not trustworthy on almost every single issue,” Rickers said on Wednesday’s Breitbart News Daily on SiriusXM.

Rickers continued: “They are the architects of pretty much what has gutted out rural America and the rust Belt. They’re the reason the rust Belt is rusting.”

Civil Rights Leader Clarence Henderson Backs Trump saying ‘America Is a Business’:

In a separate article ‘Black Men For Bernie’ now for Trump? by Michael Ware notes:

black men for bernie

Bruce Carter, the founder of Black Men for Bernie.

There is something to be said about a person with real convictions. When you have your eyes opened, it is hard to then close them back. So, when you have an opportunity to open the eyes of others, you should jump at that opportunity.

This is what has happened to Bruce Carter, the founder of Black Men for Bernie. He has not been able to support Hillary as he now knows what the Democrat party is all about.

Breitbart reports

After the leak of internal DNC emails, Carter is convinced that the Democratic Party “rigged” the primary against his candidate and that Hillary Clinton’s Democratic Party has no intention of changing the policies that led to the destruction of the communities he’s working to improve.

Bruce Carter still believes that Hillary Clinton is the poster child for the kind of cronyism, corruption, and evil that the Bernie revolution was built to overthrow. He doesn’t believe Hillary Clinton when she labels Donald Trump and his supporters as racists because he knows she falsely labeled her opponents in the primary as sexist “Bernie Bros.” Carter’s preparing to take the experience, knowledge, and contacts his group built during the primary to campaign against Hillary Clinton and for Donald Trump and other Republicans in battleground states across the country.

Carter has come to see that the Left has no real concern for the minority communities they exploit. They directly use these communities as political power during elections and forgotten after the victory. Though he would differ on issues with men like Sheriff David Clarke, they would agree that the Left has left the Black and minority communities that they exploit.

Democrats feel disenfranchised and they are angry. Will they make a difference on November 8th? Time will tell.

The movement is real, not because of Trump, but because of Hillary Clinton.

A Comparison of the 2016: Republican and Democratic Platforms

Washington, D.C. Rally4Refugees ‘falls short of expectations’

I’m glad I dragged myself to Washington on a steaming Sunday morning because if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes I wouldn’t have believed that the big hoopla that led up to the so-called Rally4Refugees would fall so short of expectations.

Someone spent an awful lot of money for jumbotrons, tents, a big sound system, bottled water, porta pots, and African American clean-up crews (for a mostly white crowd) for what generously might be called a thousand people (at one point or another during the event).  I’m terrible at estimating crowds, so it might have been 500 at the peak of the rally before noon.

Most attendees did not wear the recommended orange shirts so some of those watching the poets, singers and marching troops in orange life vests could have been tourists who took a few minutes from their visit to the Washington Monument to see what was going on.

My report was phoned in to Leo Hohmann at World Net Daily and his write-up is here. ‘Puny’ it was!

For your viewing pleasure, here are more photos of the day (in addition to those posted at WND). I’ll be so interested to see how any other media reports on it.  I saw lots of fancy schmancy cameras, but I didn’t see any cable news or reporters of any note.

Open Letter to Max Blumenthal RE: Calling lovers of Israel ‘Judeo-Nazis’

Dear Mr. Blumenthal:

On behalf of my fellow Zionists and myself, let me declare that neither they nor I are “Judeo-Nazis,” as you have chosen to call the Chosen People who have the audacity, actually tenacity, to want to live. The true Nazis made sure that millions upon millions of us did not have that basic human right to live, including my grandparents, Louis and Berta Katz, their little son, Arthur Werner, and their one-month-old granddaughter, Bianca Louise, among so many others in just our family.

I invite you to debate me in person on the Jewish right-to-live, which excludes the right to be stabbed, the right to be bombed in buses, the right for babies to be murdered in their cribs, the right to be punctured by missile shrapnel coated with rat poison, and the right to be bombarded with rockets raining on our Jewish homes. The Jewish right-to-live movement also excludes the intricately-planned invasions of Israeli schools and homes through dozens of tunnels stocked with ampoules of tranquilizers and yards of rope with which to drug and bind our beloved children on none other than the date of Erev Rosh HaShonah 2014 … tunnels ten stories underground costing scores of millions of dollars.

I dare you to explain to an audience how much Palestinians love their own children when they spend millions of dollars and endless hours to kidnap our Jewish children rather than to embrace and educate their little ones. I dare you to defend using Palestinian children as human shields and miniature warriors-in-the-making to carry out suicide-homicide missions from which their adult leaders shrink in fear for their own lives.

If you had a shred of love for the Arab children in the womb and outside bathed in hatred against Jews, then you would lift up your voice to protect them from the relentless abuse of hate they hear and face from birth emanating from their parents and other persons whose malice is ceaseless against the Jews.

Mr. Max, we are not Judeo-Nazis or haters. We are Jews who love children of all origins, including those with Jewish heritage in their blood, which has been shed far too much far too often and for no reason other than their bodily vessels are Jews. The reason that little Arthur Werner Katz, of whom only one tiny photo survived the Holocaust, was murdered on November 3, 1943, in the Riga Ghetto, is the exact same reason that Israeli children are targeted today – for the crime of committing Judaism.

The reason that newborn Bianca Louise Vleeschhouwer, of whom no photo was ever taken in her one month of life, was gassed to death with her Mom and Dad at Sobibor on May 28, 1943, is for the crime of committing Judaism. The numbers murdered are incomprehensible, and the reason is immutable hatred of Jews, transferred from generation to generation. Then, as now, the Arab nations steadfastly supported the elimination of the Jewish People, but the State of Israel does not reciprocate this evil. Multitudes of Arab children live through the generosity of skilled Jewish physicians whose tireless work heals young bodies broken by disease and trauma.

I reiterate … we are not Judeo-Nazis. We are Jews, who bring life and health to other Jews and to Arabs. This is the Divine Will that we follow as “a light unto the nations,” not the darkness of hatred spewed endlessly into the ears of children who are less important to the Palestinian people than tunnels engineered to kill other children born into the wrong faith.

Listen to this compelling, yet disturbing Lisa Benson Show with guests Shoshana Bryen of The Jewish Policy Center and best selling author and investigative journalist Ken Timmerman.

The round table discussion reveals the duplicity of Turkey, with Russia and U.S. complicity in Syria throwing the Kurds under the bus gutting the war against the Islamic State (ISIS).

The discussion revealed how the Obama Administration is:

  • abandoning the Persian Gulf to Iran,
  • destabilizing the world’s energy supply,
  • getting ready to withdraw U.S. Naval assets from the region
  • and avoiding Congressional appropriation authorities by paying Tehran with $1.3 billion from a State Department “slush fund” possibly via the Swiss Central Bank.

In Louisiana, Private Disaster Relief Outperforms the Government by Kevin Boyd

The recent flooding that hit Louisiana is the worst natural disaster to hit the United States since Hurricane Sandy hit New Jersey in 2012. So far we know that at least 13 are dead and tens of thousands were left homeless in the flooding. Even worse, most of those affected do not have flood insurance. Up to $21 billion worth of housing stock was wiped out by the deluge of rain.

The recovery will be long and difficult in one of the poorest states in the country. There is the challenge of finding employment and housing for all these displaced people. Given the fact that Louisiana is a hot and humid state most of the year, there will also be the issues of dealing with mold and increased injuries as people try to rebuild.

But one of the greatest stories of the Louisiana flooding is how the people and free markets are playing a role in helping to both rescue people and deliver relief much quicker than the government.

Citizens to the Rescue

The rains that swamped parts of Louisiana over a period of a few days were relentless. Local governments and first responders were overwhelmed with calls for help from people trapped in their homes by rising waters.

Instead of waiting for the government to come rescue them, the people of Louisiana used their own privately-owned boats to save their neighbors. This “Cajun Navy” drew its ranks and fleet from Louisiana’s large numbers of sportsmen. People who needed rescue contacted a Facebook group and the boats used smartphone apps such as the GPS app Glympse and the walkie talkie app Zello to coordinate. The “Cajun Navy” was responsible for saving the lives of thousands of Louisianians and their pets and livestock.

The people of Louisiana also distributed immediate relief to their displaced neighbors much more efficiently than the government was able to. One of the best examples of this was the conversion of a movie studio into a shelter housing over 2,000 people. The Celtic Media Centre is one of Louisiana’s premier film production studios located in Baton Rouge, which was one of the cities hardest hit by the flooding. The studio’s executive director, Patrick Mulhearn, saw how devastated his neighbors were by the high water and decided to open up Celtic as an emergency shelter.

Celtic was able to shelter over 2,000 evacuees in large, open, and air conditioned sound stages that were not being used for filming at the time. The shelter was supplied at first by local volunteers who donated food, water, and clothing to those affected by the storm. Volunteer doctors and other medical personnel, themselves often flood victims, set up a clinic in Celtic.

Importantly in a pet loving state like Louisiana, Celtic was open to pets as well. Many people did not evacuate during Hurricane Katrina in 2005 because their pets were not welcome at shelters.

There were smaller examples of churches opening themselves up, without prodding by either the Red Cross or the state government, as storm shelters for those who lost everything. Such shelters are all over the parishes that were flooded, and have largely been stocked with supplies by volunteers all over the state. People are even taking donations to the parking lots of stores that were unaffected to bring food, water, and other supplies to the flood zone.

People looking to donate supplies have been coordinating their relief efforts on Facebook and other social media. If people are looking to donate supplies, they can use social media to find places to drop them off. If people in other parts of the state and out of state want to donate, they’re being directed on social media to places where they can help.

Even while the streets of Louisiana flooded, trucks from Wal-Mart and UPS did not stop rolling. Wal-Mart, in particular, was able to use its corporate meteorologists to plan delivery routes and shift deliveries of much-needed supplies such as baby formula and water to the affected areas. UPS is able to prioritize delivery of items such as mail order prescription drugs. Companies are rushing supplies into the disaster area quicker than lethargic government agencies and the Red Cross.

Motivated by History

In 2005, after Hurricane Katrina, Louisianians tried waiting on the government. That help never came and over 1,500 Louisianians died in the flood waters of New Orleans, St. Bernard Parish, Plaquemines Parish, and Jefferson Parish. The people of Louisiana learned the hard way that they had to rescue themselves.

The people of Louisiana were motivated by a sense of community. While the Federal government was giving anti-discrimination lectures to flood victims, the Cajun Navy was rescuing people of all races. Louisiana has come together like never before.

But it wasn’t just the compassion of the people of Louisiana that saved lives. Companies which were seeking profit were also responsible. Everyone from the smartphone app developers to the retailers who provided the products to sustain and save lives played a role in this. Businesses and entrepreneurs meeting the needs of customers were literally lifesavers.

As Louisiana rebuilds, the free market will play a leading role in feeding and sheltering the displaced people. Companies motivated by profit will sell building materials to help rebuild homes and others will be looking to hire displaced workers to help them do more business. The pursuit of profit is what will rebuild Louisiana, not a government.

Even in disaster relief the best thing government can do is get out of the way of the private sector.

CDC Report: Gay’s 2% of population but 55% of those living with AIDS/HIV

The Center for Disease Control’s latest report states:

Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men made up an estimated 2% of the population but 55% of people living with HIV in the United States in 2013. If current diagnosis rates continue, 1 in 6 gay and bisexual men will be diagnosed with HIV in their lifetime, including 1 in 2 black/African-American gay and bisexual men, 1 in 4 Hispanic/Latino gay and bisexual men, and 1 in 11 white gay and bisexual men.

In 2014:

  • Gay and bisexual men accounted for 83% (29,418) of the estimated new HIV diagnoses among all males aged 13 and older and 67% of the total estimated new diagnoses in the United States.
  • Gay and bisexual men aged 13 to 24 accounted for an estimated 92% of new HIV diagnoses among all men in their age group and 27% of new diagnoses among all gay and bisexual men.
  • Gay and bisexual men accounted for an estimated 54% (11,277) of people diagnosed with AIDS. Of those men, 39% were African American, 32% were white, and 24% were Hispanic/Latino.

Onan Coca from Constitution.com notes:

While the left would blame most of these problems on conservative “homophobia,” the truth is actually quite different. Even as homosexuality becomes an ever more acceptable societal given; the mental and physical consequences of such behavior continue to persist. In fact, the CDC notes that even as the HIV/AIDS infection rates continue to generally drop, over the last ten years they actually rose in the homosexual male community. This has nothing to do with conservative homophobia and everything to do with what we on the right have been warning about for years – the dangerous consequences of negative and immoral behavior.

President Obama and Hillary Clinton have done nothing to stop this pandemic. Instead they have opened women’s bathrooms to gays, transgenders. This put at risk females and young girls.

Libertarian VP Candidate William F. Weld Continues to be Anti-Gun

As governor of Massachusetts, William Weld supported various gun control schemes, including a ban on semi-automatic firearms.  Unfortunately, and despite being the Libertarian candidate for vice president, Weld continues his anti-gun ways.

In July 2016, while NRA and other groups concerned with civil liberties were hard at work fighting legislation that would have stripped Americans of their Second Amendment rights without due process based merely on their placement on a secret government watch list, Weld expressed support for such measures.

In an interview with the Washington Post Editorial Board, Weld said of watch list gun control legislation:

I think the Susan Collins stuff looks good. I mean, it’s hard for me, uh, having proposed this super-duper task force getting bits of information from all over to say, it wouldn’t lie with good grace in my mouth to say ‘no, don’t use the terrorist watch list as a source of such information.’ So I would go with that.

In an August interview with Revolt.tv, Weld reiterated this position. When asked about what can be done “to control this flow of guns,” Weld responded, “you shouldn’t have anybody who’s on a terrorist watch list be able to buy any gun at all.”

At another point in the interview Weld characterized commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms and standard-capacity magazines as potential weapons of mass destruction. Displaying a level of ignorance usually attendant to politicians carrying the endorsement of the Brady Campaign, Weld told the interviewer:

The five-shot rifle, that’s a standard military rifle. The problem is if you attach a clip to it so it can fire more shells and if you remove the pin so that it becomes an automatic weapon. And those are independent criminal offenses. That’s when they become essentially a weapon of mass destruction.

Weld went on to suggest to the interviewer that both handguns and AR-15s are a “problem,” stating, “The problem with handguns is probably even worse than the problem of the AR-15.”

This latest episode reveals that when pressed on firearms issues, despite any assurances he has given to voters, Weld’s political instincts are to abandon gun owners and embrace gun control.

U.S. Border Patrol Arrests Mexican bringing $3 Million of ‘Drug Money’ into California

Two men were arrested Tuesday, August 23rd, in North San Diego County, California (Escondido) with verified $3 million in illicit American currency. Various aspects of the arrests strongly suggest the currency was drug money being transported north in two vehicles. The actual information release from Border Patrol is mentioned below my signature line.

Border Patrol Arrests Duo for Bulk Cash Smuggling

drug money californiaESCONDIDO, Calif.—U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested two men on Tuesday afternoon for smuggling more than $3 million dollars that was being transported in separate vehicles traveling in North County.

At about 1:45 p.m. an agent conducted a vehicle stop on a Kia Forte on W Country Club Ln. after following the vehicle on Interstate 15.  The agent suspected that the driver of the Kia Forte was driving in tandem with a Volkswagen Passat, which sped off as the vehicle stop was in progress.

At the scene of the vehicle stop, a Border Patrol K-9 alerted agents to conduct a search of the vehicle, resulting in the discovery of eight vacuum-sealed bundles containing $33,880 that was stashed in the center console.  A 53-year-old male U.S. citizen was arrested upon the discovery.

Additional agents were able to locate the Volkswagen Passat as it was abandoned at a cul-de-sac located in a residential area within close proximity of the vehicle stop.  Soon after, the agents found the vehicle’s driver, a 41-year-old male Mexican national, hiding in some brush nearby and arrested him for suspicion of currency smuggling.  Agents searched the vehicle and seized $3,018,000 that was found inside eight boxes located in the trunk.

“This amount of money represents the largest currency seizure ever in San Diego Sector,” said Chief Patrol Agent Richard A. Barlow.  “The hard work and perseverance demonstrated by the involved agents was essential for this outcome.”

The two suspects were turned over to Homeland Security Investigations and are facing federal charges for currency smuggling.

To prevent the illicit smuggling of humans, drugs, and other contraband, the U.S. Border Patrol maintains a high level of vigilance in corridors of egress away from our Nation’s borders.  To report suspicious activity to the U.S. Border Patrol, contact San Diego Sector at (619) 498-9900.

A review of Florida Constitutional Amendment 4 — Solar Devices by James Lampe

As you consider your vote remember this is a Constitutional Amendment, and once passed the chances of changing it are slim and none.  Before we change the Constitution, shouldn’t the Amendment be clearly beneficial to most Floridians?  Unfortunately, the vast majority of Floridians will be hurt if Amendment 4 is passed.  The Amendment will raise electric rates and ad valorem taxes.  Vote NO on this Amendment.

amendment 4 ballot language

Summary:  This Amendment will exempt solar devices installed on homes or businesses from ad valorem taxes, until 12-31-2037.

First of all, homeowners who install Solar-Electric systems already get a 30% federal tax break!

This financial assistance from the federal government, has been around for years.  Secondly, Florida state government has helped by exempting “solar energy systems or any component thereof” from sales tax.  And now we have this amendment, a third gilded gift to prop-up the failing solar industry.

Nonetheless, let’s see how many people this Amendment will help.  A review of the US Census Fact Finder data on the table below, shows that 30% (2,166,215) of all Floridians live in “Rental Occupied” units, and therefore, no-one in that group would invest in solar-electric systems.  As shown in the “Owner-occupied” category, that leaves 4,986,629 potential customers.

amendment 4 survey

In addition, even if you own a house you may not be able to afford to invest in a solar-electric system.  People who own lower valued housing units valued at $50,000-$150,000, are not likely to invest $30,000 (cost estimate to buy, install, and connect a solar-electric system to the electric grid) for solar system.  So of the 4,986,629 total housing units, we can subtract 1,593,957 for the lower valued houses.  That gives 3,392,697 as the remaining moderate to higher priced housing units that would be the target market for solar-electric systems.

However, there are about 1,000,000 condominiums in Florida, whose owners would also be prevented/impeded from modifying or otherwise changing their common roofs, so the total possible number of housing units for solar falls to 2,392,697, or ~34% of all housing units.

With only ~34% of housing units available for solar-electric systems, how can this Amendment be considered fair?  Worse yet, many snow-birds and residents have mobile homes that are included the housing units, but there is no itemized number for them.  So the 34%, would be even lower if mobile home units were subtracted from the total number of units.

florida solar amendment

In 2015, the Nevada PUC changed the rules for “net metering,” which allows homeowners to sell their excess solar generated electricity to their utility at retail rather than wholesale rates.  But because that arrangement was too costly, the PUC changed the rule.

The Nevada scenario seems like a no brainer, but apparently there was enough grant money to make up for the losses, until one day when the math didn’t work, and the people in Nevada realized that the more electric generated by solar, the less profits the utilities collect.  The utilities need profit to pay staff to restore power after storms, sustain street lighting, and maintain the electric grid, etc.  In addition, utilities work on economies of scale, and their efficiency is reduced when customers convert to solar, because it costs more to generate a KW of electricity.

This Amendment is an obvious attempt by state bureaucrats to boost the heavily subsidized, yet nearly bankrupt solar industry.  It’s not fair or prudent, to let the state pick winners and losers in a free market economy, and we should not let this cronyism go unnoticed.

Vote NO on Amendment 4.

When do-gooders don’t do good!

Two stories I want to bring to your attention were posted over the last couple of days that call in to question whether the resettlement industry (both the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement and its NGO contractors) is even taking proper care of the migrants they are responsible for.

So the next time you hear the pleas of government-funded bleeding heart humanitarians saying that we need to bring more poor souls to America, remember these reports and know that some refugees are very sorry they came!

[Congress could tweek the Refugee Admissions Program if it had the will! see below!]

The first story is at World Net Daily about how the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement has LOST some of the so-called unaccompanied alien children they claim are refugees—one little boy in particular—but reportedly thousands.

After telling the story of ‘Missing child W,’ reporter Leo Hohmann reports on comments from Jessica Vaughan, an immigration expert at the Center for Immigration Studies:

Sadly, the case of missing child “W” is not unique, says an expert in federal immigration policy.

blufton-house-where-walter-was-placed

10-year old Walter was supposedly placed in this South Carolina home, but no one there knows anything about him.

‘Asking as few questions as possible’

The problem has become endemic under the Obama administration’s slack procedures for dealing with unaccompanied minors from Central America, said Jessica Vaughan, director of policy studies for the Center for Immigration Studies in Washington. And local communities often end up getting stuck with the problem – and the cost.

“From the beginning, instead of putting the welfare of the kids first, the priority of the Obama administration has been to turn over the kids to anyone who would claim them, asking as few questions as possible, and deliberately oblivious as to whether the child was being placed in a safe environment,” Vaughan told WND.

For the sake of political expediency, she said the government wants a rapid turnover, and is willing to sacrifice all checks and safeguards to ensure the safety of the kids.

“The contractors [this includes the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service—both receive millions of tax dollars to care for the children.—ed] who were awarded public funds to handle the kids admit that they have lost track of most of them, and a U.S. Senate investigation has found that some were turned straight over to indentured labor camps or to abusive adults,” said Vaughan, who in February testified before a House subcommittee on the problem of child migrants being swept up into human trafficking networks.

“The Obama administration wants the public to believe that we are saving these kids, but in reality their policies are enriching human smugglers and traffickers and resettlement contractors, while putting too many of the kids in more danger,” she said.

Then there is this story by Michael Patrick Leahy at Breitbart which chronicles some of the horror stories from refugees placed in the care of nine major federal resettlement contractors—stories, some of which, we have reported on these pages over the years.

Leahy begins:

mana

Refugee Mulugeta Zemu Mana wishes he never came to America!

When Eritrean refugee Mulugeta Zemu Mana was recently arraigned in a courtroom in Twin Falls, Idaho, on charges of aggravated battery, he told the presiding judge, “The only guilt I have is the day I decided to come to this country.”

Mana’s lack of gratitude and anti-Americanism is a painful revelation of the social turmoil and economic pain among the 70,000 refugees, half of whom are Muslim, who arrive in the U.S. every year.

But it is also the predictable outcome of the lucrative, federal taxpayer financed refugee resettlement industry which is now headed by former Clinton and Obama administration appointees. The industry rejects America’s traditional policy of assimilating refugees into the country, and instead treats refugees more as revenue-generating opportunities that boost their income and political power.

There is much more here.

Where is Congress?

One fix that Congress could quickly make is to set up a repatriation fund so that unhappy ‘refugees’ (and other immigrants too) could tap into it for a plane ticket home.

And, I don’t want to hear any squawking about the cost—it would be much cheaper than incarcerating them or keeping them on welfare!

The true humanitarian do-gooders should have no objections! Right?

LOL! There is one other side benefit:  such a plan would help sort out the resettlement contractors by helping to identify which are doing the best job of taking care of the refugees they have acquired in their federal contracts.

And, here Mark Krikorian of the Center for Immigration Studies reminds us of the huge cost of resettling each refugee to your town or city.  It is far less expensive to find safe places in the Middle East for the Syrians, says Krikorian.

Safe zones!

In fact, Donald  Trump has remarked in the past that he would like to see “safe zones” established where refugees could be protected until the conflict is over in Syria.  I’m thinking one such safe zone could be in Saudi Arabia!

Maybe Trump could make a deal with the Saudis who at present do not take care of their fellow Muslim refugees (a fact that we have chronicled over the years) to establish a safe zone in the kingdom.

From the Daily Signal about Sunday’s Rally 4 Refugees (see our earlier post here).  Emphasis below is mine:

Mark-Krikorian

Krikorian points out that there are much more fiscally responsible ways to care for Syrian refugees than to scatter them through hundreds of American towns.

Are you concerned about the plight of international refugees? Would you like to see the U.S. government take decisive, constructive action on behalf of displaced persons across the globe who have been forced to flee their homes?

If so, you’re invited to “stand up against the voices of intolerance” this Sunday in Washington, D.C., where you can join forces with other concerned Americans.  [If you are concerned about the costs and social upheaval for both refugees and for Americans when refugees are secretly placed in your towns, you are intolerant! Get used to it!—ed]

But if you do participate, policy analysts who have examined the refugee crisis want you to know they have good reason to believe the rally is a highly politicized event organized for the purpose of lobbying the Obama administration and Congress to allow more refugees into the U.S.—including those from war-torn Syria and Iraq who may have ties to terrorism.

A major contributor to causes on the left, the Tides Foundation, is collecting contributions for the rally.

High Costs of Resettling Refugees

A report by the Washington-based Center for Immigration Studies found that it costs 12 times as much to resettle a refugee in America than it does to provide for services and relief to the same refugee in the Middle East.

The nonprofit, nonpartisan research outfit included State Department expenditures, welfare use rates, and other figures and benefits from the departments of Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, and other U.S. agencies. Its report says:

Based on that information, this analysis finds that the costs of resettling refugees in the United States are quite high, even without considering all of the costs refugees create. We conservatively estimate that the costs total $64,370 in the first five years for each Middle Eastern refugee. This is 61 times what it costs to care for one Syrian refugee in a neighboring country for a single year or about 12 times the cost of providing for a refugee for five years.

“The organizers, funders, and the supporting groups are putting this rally together to exert pressure to ensure that the Obama administration increases the admission of Syrians into the U.S.,” Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, told The Daily Signal.

Krikorian, of the Center for Immigration Studies, said he sees more than mere happenstance at work in the timing of the rally: Obama is set to play host to a refugee summit at the U.N. on Sept. 20. The president also is expected to release his fiscal year 2017 plan for refugees by the end of September.

The rally is not only “to exert pressure to ensure that the Obama administration increases the admission of Syrians,” Krikorian said, but “timed to influence the number of refugees the State Department is trying to settle.”

And, it is my view that it is also to exert pressure on Congress to loosen the purse strings on funding for the program as Congress addresses the budget this fall. The nine federal contractors*** who resettle refugees in your towns and cities want to expand their operations to even more towns and they need your money to do that!

We have talked about this before, but I’m going to be a broken record on it!  Your focus for the next couple of months should be on pressuring your Member of Congress to grow a spine and oppose the expenditure of your money on resettling ever larger numbers of refugees.

Don’t focus your anger at Obama and the Progressives, they are doing what they always do—focus on someone you can change—your member of Congress and U.S. Senators up for re-election in a little over two months.

Miami-Dade School Board Sued for Violation of First Amendment

On Friday, August 19, a federal judge rejected a motion by the School Board of Miami-Dade County to dismiss a law suit against the board for alleged violations of Freedom of Speech and Assembly under the First Amendment.  The Plaintiffs allege that the school board unlawfully took adverse employment action against them in retaliation for their involvement in the attempt to convert a public school to a charter school, an attempt that ultimately failed.

The plaintiffs include Dr. Alberto T. Fernandez, Henny Cristobol, and Patricia E. Ramirez.  They worked at Neva King Cooper Educational Center, a special school for students with significant intellectual disabilities in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools.  Dr. Fernandez was the principal, Cristobol was the assistant principal, and Ramirez was the placement specialist.

In May 2012, the district transferred the employees to alternate work locations for their participation in the school’s efforts to explore converting it to a charter school.  The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) Office of Inspector General (OIG) investigated the district’s actions, and the OIG issued a Fact-Finding Report unfavorable to the School Board. The FDOE then referred the case to the Division of Administrative Hearings (DOAH) for a hearing to take place.  On June 30, 2014, Judge Edward Bauer from DOAH issued a recommended order based on the facts found during the hearing.  The judge recommended that the FDOE enter a final order finding that the board violated Florida Statute 1002.3(4)(a) “Unlawful Reprisal” with respect to each plaintiff, and that the board pay Dr. Fernandez $10,590 in lost bonuses and other reasonable costs. On November 6, 2014, the FDOE entered a final order which reiterated the judge’s recommended order.  The board was also ordered to pay over $250,000 in attorney fees to the employees.*

On May 20, 2015, the plaintiffs filed the current law suit in federal court for violations of their First Amendment rights for their involvement in the above-mentioned conversion charter school exploration. On February 8, 2016, the school board filed a motion with the court to dismiss the case.  The judge, the Honorable Darrin P. Gayles, of the US District Court, Southern District of Florida, disagreed with the board’s plea. The judge’s entire order can be found here.  (Case no. 15-cv-21915-Gayles.)
