Is America’s Newest Friend A Threat To Christians?

President Donald Trump met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa at the White House Monday, prompting scrutiny over al-Sharaa’s treatment of his country’s Christian minority.

Trump has made addressing the global persecution of Christians a priority of his administration, and he designated Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” and called for a congressional investigation in October.

Nigeria is not the only country where Christians are being targeted. Religious minorities are targeted or caught in the crossfire as players move for power in Syria.

As the nearly 14-year civil war came to a close, al-Sharaa’s forces took control of the Syrian government from Bashar Al-Assad’s regime in late 2024.

Al-Sharaa’s resistance, the Nusra Front, was formally aligned with al-Qaeda until 2016, Reuters reported. It rebranded itself in 2017 as Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Al-Sharaa previously had a $10 million U.S. bounty on his head, but he told CNN in December that his group was working to reassure Christians targeted by extremist and jihadist groups during the civil war that they would be safe under his rule.

“There were some violations against them [minorities] by certain individuals during periods of chaos, but we addressed these issues,” al-Sharaa told CNN.

“No one has the right to erase another group,” he continued. “These sects have coexisted in this region for hundreds of years, and no one has the right to eliminate them.”

Despite al-Sharaa’s promises, doubts remain due to his resistance group’s jihadist origins and track record of human rights abuses, Open Doors research analyst on the Middle East, Henriette Kats, said in December.

CEO of Christian rights organization Open Doors U.S., Ryan Brown, told the Daily Caller the attacks happening in Syria don’t take place in a vacuum, and they are the result of a civil war.

Brown said the threat Assad’s regime posed to Syrian Christians was a “known entity,” but the rise of al-Sharaa bred uncertainty and elicited mixed reactions from Christians.

Al-Sharaa began his rule by meeting with high-level clergymen to “lay the foundations for future dialogue” with the goal to “continue these meetings to reach future understandings,” an anonymous official told AFP, Al Arabiya English reported.

Despite al-Sharaa’s purported commitments, the future of Syrian Christians remains uncertain. They face attacks from groups opposing al-Sharaa because of their faith, while others are being killed in unrelated conflicts involving forces allegedly tied to his government.

A suicide bomber attacked an evening Catholic Mass in June, taking the lives of 22 people and wounding more than 50 others, according to Open Doors.

“I was preaching when the shooting began. Then came the screams,” the father of a neighboring Greek Orthodox church told Open Doors. “Everyone instinctively dropped to the ground. The fear… it was unspeakable. We were all in shock, paralyzed by the horror.”

Syrian authorities attributed the attack to ISIS, according to the report.

“We thought getting rid of the previous regime was going to give us some sense of freedom,” an Open Doors partner told the organization, claiming authorities are only “pretending to protect the rights of everybody in Syria.”

Hundreds of minorities — including the Druze and Alawites —were slaughtered in 2025, Open Doors reported. The group noted that many are questioning whether al-Sharaa can control the extremist groups in his country.

Al-Sharaa called on “remnants of the former regime” to immediately surrender and vowed to hold accountable “anyone who was involved in the bloodshed of civilians,” according to Al Arabiya English.

Head of the Europe branch of the Christian Syriac Union Party, Joseph Lahdo, said Christians have become the “target of direct attacks,” according to Christian Solidarity International.

Outside of the bombings and direct attacks on churches and families, Lahdo alleged Christians face taxes and financial pressure, and Christian women are forced out of workplaces and universities.

Christians also face political marginalization, absence of real representation in governing institutions and continuous threats from extremist groups and Turkish military operations, according to Lahdo. He added that Christians lack access to adequate international support.

In preparation for Trump’s Monday meeting with the president, nearly 100 U.S. church leaders signed an open letter thanking Trump for his recent efforts in combating Christian persecution in Nigeria.

The letter urged Trump to address the persecution of religious minorities, including Christians, in Syria.

“[R]eligious minorities face ongoing violence, death, displacement, starvation, and water and medical deprivation, all while innocent women and children are held hostage by ISIS terrorists,” the letter stated.

The letter, whose signatories included Vice Chair of Trump’s Religious Liberty Commission Dr. Ben Carson, requested Trump “secure President al-Sharaa’s commitment to opening a secure humanitarian corridor from Hader to Suwayda in southern Syria,” arguing the corridor would facilitate aid delivery and the evacuation of civilians.

It’s estimated that nearly 90% of the aid being distributed through Damascus does not reach its intended target of Sweida, according to the Catholic Review.

Although it is unclear whether such topics came up during the first-ever visit by a Syrian president to the White House, Trump said he believes al-Sharaa can make Syria successful and help bring peace to the region.

After Trump’s meeting, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom indicated the government will continue to address issues of religious freedom in the region.

The commission will hold a virtual hearing on religious freedom in Syria Thursday to “identify continued challenges to U.S. policy and religious freedom in Syria.”

Witnesses are slated to speak on specific threats to freedom of religion or belief toward Syrian minorities, as well as how the U.S. “can leverage bilateral, regional, and international interests in its support of [freedom of religion or belief] for all Syrians.”

Brown told the Caller there are ways Syria’s government can ensure Christians and religious minorities are protected, including by implementing constitutional reforms that enshrine basic protections for Christians and other Syrian minorities. He said the U.S. should continue to encourage the prioritization of the freedom of religious belief in its international relations.

He said the most important way someone can help is to pray for Christians and others caught in the Syrian turmoil, as well as donating to groups like Open Doors. The organization supplies information on countries dealing with Christian persecution, helps support the livelihood of Christians and provides trauma care after attacks, like the suicide bombing in June.

Brown said that although most Christian persecution is directly violent, other forms of persecution are increasing around the world, specifically during the past few years in sub-Saharan Africa.

“It is becoming alarming how much violence is continuing to escalate in the expression of persecution,” he told the Caller.

The Bible and Socialism

Last week, an avowed socialist—Communist, really—won the mayoral seat of America’s number one city, NYC, the home of Wall Street and the largest Jewish population in the world outside Israel. Zohran Mamdani promised a lot of free stuff—although his supporters had to pay for their own drinks at his victory celebration.

With the incredibly terrible track record of Communism, how could a free people vote in socialism? Easy. Through ignorance of history, promoted in our schools, our media, our songs, our culture, and sometimes even through the pulpit, primarily through its silence on such things as how socialism contradicts basic Biblical teaching.

But to the ignorant, it would appear the Bible promotes socialism.

In his article “Gov. Newsom Uses Bible to Slam Vance,” Dr. Bill Donohue, the president of the Catholic League, writes, “On November 9, California Governor Gavin Newsom called out Vice President JD Vance for allowing the poor to go hungry.”

Donohue quotes Newsom: “I mean, Old Testament, New Testament…What’s the fundamental thing that connects every—I mean, from John to Matthew to Proverbs? It’s this notion of hunger, feeding the poor, the sick, the tired…it’s not an option, it’s central to advancing God’s will.”

Certainly, the Bible does command us to help the poor. But nowhere does God say that the government is to help the poor. In fact, the Bible says we shall not steal nor covet our neighbors’ goods. Those two prohibitions comprise 20% of the Ten Commandments.

Although capitalism and free enterprise have proven to lift the quality of life for many in our country and all over the world, lately, many young Americans clamor for socialism over capitalism. In some cases, they basically define socialism as simply sharing.

But critics note that socialism involves the force of the government. It isn’t sharing that is practiced. Instead, it is forcibly confiscating (stealing) property from one citizen to give to another—while charging a hefty administrative fee in the process.

Furthermore, socialism undermines productivity and actually hurts the recipients who are supposedly the objects of charity.

Take the welfare state as an example. This has led to the breakdown of the urban family. They said in effect, “Dad, if you get out of the house, then we’ll give mom more money.” But fatherlessness contributes significantly to poverty, as well as a number of other maladies. Why do young men join gangs? They’re looking for surrogate fathers.

Meanwhile, the church is often at the forefront of truly helping the poor on a voluntary basis.

The Bible also says the family is ultimately responsible for the care of the needy and the poor. The Apostle Paul writes, “But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” Now certainly, Paul’s not talking about those who cannot provide for their family, but those who refuse to do so.

Last year, I had the privilege to interview Charlie Kirk about his book against Wokeism for a radio segment. I mentioned to him that after reading major portions of his book, Right Wing Revolution, I found it amazing that people in modern times still turn to Karl Marx, the father of Communism, for inspiration and marching orders. Here’s a portion of our dialogue.

Jerry: “Why should Karl Marx have the final say in this world? Karl Marx couldn’t even reconcile his own bank account. Karl Marx forced his family into utter poverty. What a loser. And yet this guy’s ideas have poisoned the minds of millions and led to the deaths of tens of millions. Amazing.”

Charlie: “Yeah, and Marx was engaged in the demonic, and Marxism is from the pit of hell. Marxism seeks to destroy people’s connection to God, people’s connection to the family, and people’s ability to own property. Three things that are biblically based and mandated. And so Karl Marx shouldn’t have the final say, and that’s why believers need to identify what Marxism is, where it comes from, and our need to rise up against it….But right now, it seems that the church largely is indifferent towards the rise of Marxism in the West.”

In contrast, NYC Mayor-elect Mamdani sees big government as the solution. He said, “We will prove that there is no problem too large for government to solve, and no concern too small for it to care about.” Instead, I agree with President Reagan, who viewed government as often to be the problem, not the solution, to problems. Our 40th president said the scariest words to ever hear are, “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.”

Let’s be blunt, socialism is simply a means by which many politicians are basically trying to buy votes—and they’re charging us for the bill.

Blood Labels: A Political Right That Avoids The Oldest Of Infamies

MEMRI Daily Brief No. 863

That liberal democracy seems to be looking increasingly threadbare is obvious. The elements of the old dispensation — individualism, free markets, limited government — all seem to be under assault, often for very good reasons. What Francis Fukuyama popularized in 1989 as the endpoint of political evolution and “the final form of human government” does not look that way right now.[1] Globalization, the offspring of the free markets/free trade portion of liberal democracy, seems as much of a threat to as a product of the “liberal-democratic West.”[2]

The world, including the West, is transitioning. What is not quite clear is exactly what it is transitioning into. In a recent piece I wrote about Europe, I described the potential future of that continent as a struggle between Fanonists and Maurrassians.[3] Fanon is, of course, Frantz Fanon (1925-1961), the highly influential “anti-colonial” political radical.[4] Maurras was Charles Maurras (1868-1952) the highly influential reactionary nationalist.[5]

Both were Francophone, both gifted writers, one died too young, the other lived too long. Both godfathers of types of virulent antisemitism, of the left and of the right, that flourish to this day. Fanon is a symbol of a type of revolutionary Third Worldism that seems to be burgeoning within the West. Maurras is kind of shorthand for a type of full-throated populist nationalism also gaining force in the West.[6]

Recently the United States has seen controversy on the political right, much talked about online, involving journalist Tucker Carlson, his platforming of the flagrant antisemite and Nazi Nick Fuentes, and the reaction of the Heritage Foundation, a leading American conservative institution. Both Carlson, who has also platformed leftists and even a lobbyist for the Venezuelan regime, and Fuentes, a fringe figure who supported Kamala Harris in 2024, seem to be as much or more agents provocateurs than men of the right. There is a flood now of “edgelords who take pride in transgression for its own sake.”[7]

Both, especially Fuentes, benefit from and channel the completely understandable anger of younger American generations at what seems a deeply unfair, rotten world created by their elders.[8] These younger generations, especially young men and particularly young white men, see all the established gatekeepers as hopelessly discredited, economies hollowed out, societies overwhelmed from within and without, institutions arrayed against them, and a grim future looming.[9] They are not wrong and there are clearly both right-wing and left-wing versions of this existential bitterness, as the recent election of a cosmopolitan leftist political messiah supported by pro-China, Qatar and Iran propagandists as mayor of New York City demonstrated.[10]

There seems little doubt that in the United States the political advantage will lie in whichever party or faction within one of the two parties will be able to better address the deep disquiet of rising generations at what seems like an unfair, broken economic and political reality. To talk about unfettered capitalism in a jobless, hopeless future will be a real challenge. In November 2024, the candidate that was best able to tap into this deep vein of dissatisfaction was Donald Trump. In 2026 and 2028, it might be the Democrats, particularly the Democratic Socialist part of the Democratic Party. In the long-run, who knows? But the crisis of downwardly mobile would-be elites is real.[11]

Supporters of Israel face the challenge of better making the case that U.S. support for Israel is not a heavy burden, that it makes good strategic sense on its own terms, that it can be and is consistent with an American First worldview and divorcing this support from the bitter legacy of what is now broadly seen as decades of imperial, near suicidal, American overreach. But much of the “new” antisemitism in the U.S. is also about a struggle for power within contending elites, both on the left and right, and actually has very little to do with what Israel or American Jews actually do or say. It is a merely an ugly means to a political end.

But one thing that struck me in the mainstreaming of this antisemitism on the American right is the contrast with the rise of right-wing movements in Europe that are actually philosemitic. All across Europe, the center and the left — the long-time custodians of power on the old continent — are horrified by what they call the “far-right” or the populist right.[12] They seek to demonize figures such as Hungary’s Viktor Orban as they did with “fascist” Giorgia Meloni in 2022. And yet from Orban to Spain’s Vox to Germany’s AfD to the Netherlands’ Geert Wilders, it is the so-called “far-right” parties that are consistently pro-Israel.[13] There certainly are antisemitic right-wingers in Europe but they are not electorally significant. In contrast to Maurras and even Jean-Marie LePen, the French right today is also philosemitic.[14] Most of the politically powerful parties in Europe that “dabble” in antisemitism are on the political left — Spain’s PSOE and its communist allies, France’s LFI, Germany’s Die Linke, the UK’s Jeremy Corbyn. Several of these parties rely heavily on the Muslim migrant vote, a vote which overwhelmingly favors the European left.

There are obvious reasons why the populist European right is usually philosemitic. Of course, they want to differentiate themselves from pro-Islamic leftist parties who kowtow to an often deeply antisemitic migrant population. They also see Israel as a sovereigntist, right-leaning nationalist state that is often targeted by the globalists. The same crowd that wants to overcome Israel wants to submerge and dominate Europe.[15] There is also an obvious, laudable attempt to differentiate the European “new” right from the rightwing European parties of the past which often tended to be antisemitic.

Regardless of the complex motivations, Europe shows that political parties of the nationalist right can exist and flourish without being trapped in one of the oldest and worst of all blood-libels, Jew hatred.

State, County, and City Officials Nixing ‘Sanctuary’ Policies to Avoid Trump Admin. Ire

As President Donald Trump and his administration continue enforcing federal immigration law, several “sanctuary” jurisdictions have opted to reverse course and rescind policies barring state and local police from assisting federal agents. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem announced on Monday that Nevada has been removed from the Trump administration’s public list of “sanctuary” jurisdictions after 17 sheriffs, under the leadership of Governor Joe Lombardo (R), recommitted to cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), honoring ICE detainers, and assisting in the arrests of illegal immigrants.

“When others cower, real leaders step up. I applaud the Nevada Sheriffs’ & Chiefs’ Association and Governor [Lombardo] for their commitment to working with [ICE] to protect American citizens from dangerous criminal illegal aliens,” Noem said in a social media post. “Because of their efforts, Nevada has been removed from the Trump Administration’s sanctuary jurisdiction list. I encourage every leader across our nation to follow their example so that all Americans can live in peace and safety.”

In August, the Department of Justice (DOJ) published a list of “sanctuary” jurisdictions, which included Nevada and 11 other states. In a letter to Noem, the sheriffs of Carson City, Las Vegas, and Churchill, Douglas, Elko, Esmerelda, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Lincoln, Lyon, Mineral, Nye, Pershing, Storey, Washoe, and White Pine Counties confirmed that their offices will cooperate with ICE in matters of immigration law enforcement. “We are committed to ensuring our jurisdictions are in full compliance with federal and state laws, especially when it comes to immigration enforcement actions in support of the Department of Homeland Security’s efforts,” the sheriffs wrote. “Our commitment is to serve and protect the communities of Nevada, prioritizing public safety and professionalism. Sheriffs of NV and NV Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ Association shares federal law enforcement’s zero tolerance policy for criminals endangering Nevada communities.”

Baltimore County in Maryland also rescinded “sanctuary” policies in an effort to be removed from the DOJ’s list. County officials signed a memorandum of understanding late last month pledging to cooperate with ICE, although state leadership still largely opposes the president’s immigration agenda. “Despite restrictions from state leadership, Baltimore County has shown a willingness to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement,” Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward said in a statement. “This is a small step toward restoring public safety and we appreciate the county’s commitment to updating its policies.”

Since signing the memorandum, Baltimore County has been removed from the DOJ’s list. According to a report from the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), Maryland released nearly 400 illegal immigrants from jails and prisons between October 1 of 2022 and February 6 of 2025, including at least one illegal immigrant released from the Baltimore County Detention Center despite having a homicide conviction or charge. Maryland’s Gaithersburg Police Department and Howard County Detention Center also both released illegal immigrants who had either homicide convictions or homicide charges.

Earlier this year, Mayor Craig Greenberg (D) of Louisville, Kentucky, also rescinded “sanctuary” policies, in the face of action from the federal government. Although Greenberg insisted that the Louisville Metropolitan Police Department (LMPD) is “not involved in enforcing federal immigration policy,” the mayor did agree to honor ICE detainers, when ICE asks state or local police to keep an illegal immigrant already jailed for committing a crime jailed for an extended period so that ICE can safely take custody of the illegal immigrant in a law enforcement facility. “The federal government’s 48-hour detainer is standard practice for the State of Kentucky’s Department of Corrections today. It was also standard practice for Louisville Metro Corrections until 2017. We are currently the only city in Kentucky that doesn’t follow this practice,” Greenberg confessed. “Metro Corrections will begin honoring 48-hour federal detainers as soon as practical because the stakes are too high. In turn, Louisville will no longer be considered a ‘sanctuary city’ by the federal government.”

Greenberg also noted that his administration decided to comply with federal law in order to avoid federal lawsuits and targeted action by ICE. “Cities on the sanctuary city list right now are experiencing a terrifying increase in raids by ICE, including mass raids,” the mayor said. “From the data I’ve reviewed, we’re talking about under 100 inmates at our jail each year who are charged with crimes and affected by detainers. We have tens of thousands of immigrant families in Louisville. We do not want to see highly coordinated and often violent federal enforcement action here…”

In comments to The Washington Stand, Lora Ries, director of the Heritage Foundation’s Border Security and Immigration Center, suggested, “The simplest thing states and localities can do to avoid preventable crimes is to allow ICE into their prisons to pick up known criminal aliens who are about to be released following their criminal detention.” She explained, “Border Czar Tom Homan has said countless times that if sanctuary jurisdictions refuse to allow ICE into their prisons, ICE must go into the community in which the sanctuary jurisdiction released the criminal alien to take custody. This requires more planning, more agents, and resources.” Ries added, “It also endangers the agents, the alien, and community members if the alien, community members, and/or protestors refuse to cooperate with ICE or interfere with the agents.”

“The federal government should withhold federal funds from states and localities that hinder federal agents from carrying out federal laws. The Justice Department has placed several jurisdictions on notice that they may lose federal funds if they do not change their sanctuary policies,” Ries observed. “These three jurisdictions have realized the seriousness of the consequences and are course correcting to do the bare minimum — hold a criminal alien for up to an additional 48 hours for ICE to pick them up,” she continued. “It’s time for all named jurisdictions on the DOJ sanctuary list to do the same to protect their own citizens and uphold the rule of law.”

Jessica Vaughan, director of Policy Studies for CIS, told TWS, “Sanctuary policies are a serious public safety problem, and especially concerning because they are adopted for purely political reasons.” She explained, “The biggest problem is that they inevitably result in the release of criminal aliens who were arrested for local crimes and otherwise would be taken straight into ICE custody if not for the policies forced on the law enforcement agencies. We know from ICE records that a significant number (about 1/4) will commit another crime in the first few months after release (‘Rejecting Detainers, Endangering Communities’). More will re-offend if they are allowed to remain on the streets here.”

Vaughan continued, “In addition, sanctuary policies force ICE officers to do their work on the streets instead of in a secure location like a jail. This results in the kind of chaotic and dangerous situations we’re now seeing in Chicago, Portland, Los Angeles, and other places.”

“While many local governments see the light after tragedies happen, like the Laken Riley case, it’s clear that the diehard sanctuaries like Chicago and Boston will never abandon their policies on their own,” Vaughan observed. “That’s why it’s important for the federal government to impose consequences. Louisville and Baltimore County and a number of other jurisdictions have done the right thing, and hopefully others will follow suit.”

The DOJ’s “sanctuary” jurisdiction list currently includes California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Minnesota, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, the District of Columbia, Cook County (Ill.), San Diego County (Calif.), San Francisco County (Calif.), Albuquerque, Berkeley (Calif.), Boston, Chicago, Denver, East Lansing (Mich.), Hoboken (N.J.), Jersey City (N.J.), Los Angeles, New Orleans, New York City, Newark (N.J.), Paterson (N.J.), Philadelphia, Portland, Rochester (N.Y.), Seattle, and San Francisco City.

BLOODY BERKELEY: Antifa and Keffiyeh-Clad Mobs Attack TPUSA Students

Murdering Turning Point’s founder in cold blood wasn’t enough.

ANTIFA lit off flares, ATTACKED attendees, openly celebrated Charlie Kirk’s murder and violently broke down the event barriers.

On November 10, 2025, hundreds of protesters clashed with police and attendees outside a Turning Point USA event at UC Berkeley, the final stop of a campus tour honoring assassinated founder Charlie Kirk, killed in a politically motivated shooting on September 10. Demonstrators from far-left groups lit flares, threw bottles, and chanted against the conservative organization, resulting in multiple arrests for vandalism, altercations, and barrier breaches. Inside Zellerbach Hall, speakers including Rob Schneider and Dr. Frank Turek addressed a packed audience of supporters as riot-geared police protected the venue and escorted families amid the outdoor chaos.

Bloody brawl breaks out as agitators protest TPUSA event at UC Berkeley in California

By Andrea Margolis , Nikolas Lanum , Elizabeth Heckman, Fox News, Nov. 11, 2025:

A bloody fight broke out near the University of California, Berkeley, on Monday afternoon, ahead of a Turning Point USA event on campus.

The event, which will feature Dr. Frank Turek and Rob Schneider, marks the end of the “This Is The Turning Point” tour.

It takes place just two months after TPUSA’s founder Charlie Kirk was assassinated at a campus event in Utah on Sept. 10.

The confrontation erupted at around 4:30 PST.

During the brawl, two men were seen fighting each other, one of whom had blood gushing from his face.

Video taken by Fox News Digital also shows a crowd of agitators gathering around the fight.

Many demonstrators wore keffiyehs and carried signs with left-wing messages.

Local police had difficulty containing the agitators and were seen putting on shield masks and gathering batons.

PODCAST: Rising Tide of Left-Wing Political Violence

The tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk is not merely the loss of a man, but the silencing of one of the most articulate defenders of faith, freedom, and America’s constitutional order. Charlie was a believer in God, and he recognized, as the Founders did, that liberty comes from Him, not from government.

That conviction made him a champion of the Constitution and of America’s unique tradition of opportunity for all. It also made him a target for those on the extreme Left who increasingly despise both God and freedom.

Dems Cave after Gaining Nothing for Weeks-Long Shutdown

Who was responsible for the longest government shutdown in history? Look no further than those enraged at the news it may soon end. “The Democratic base is seething,” reports Politico. Liberal social media is on fire Monday, with activists, pressure groups, and wannabe Democratic senators and presidents falling over one another to condemn the deal in ever-louder terms.

On Monday night, the Senate passed legislation by a 60-40 vote that would fund the government through January 30. The House is expected to take the measure up as soon as Wednesday.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and House Progressive Caucus leader Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) both promised to vote against the bill in the House, and even Democratic senators are slamming their eight colleagues who voted to reopen the government.

Their basic contention is that their Democratic colleagues effectively caved by flipping their votes for nothing more than a promised future vote on extending Obamacare subsidies — a Santa’s pack full of leftist sweets. Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) is expected to schedule a vote on an Obamacare bill prepared by Democrats sometime in mid-December.

But progressives are furious at failing to obtain their objective in the shutdown, which was to force the Republican majority to vote for the $1.5 trillion in new health care spending, which Republicans have never voted on before. If the Democrats’ gambit had succeeded, it “would have been the first time a minority party, Democrat or Republican, successfully extracted policy concessions by shutting down the government. That’s never happened before, and it ain’t happening now,” said Quena González, senior director of Government Affairs at Family Research Council, in comments provided to The Washington Stand.

Still, progressives know that they didn’t win anything out of the shutdown. As DNC Vice Chair Malcolm Kenyatta complained, “Any ‘deal’ that ends with Dems just getting a pinky promise in return is a mistake.” There was “no direct policy concession,” González explained. In fact, the deal that Democrats eventually took was one Leader Thune had offered weeks ago: keep the government funded now, to vote on Obamacare subsidies later.

This was a fair deal for Democrats, since House Republicans had passed a “clear” continuing resolution (CR), which kept the government funded at Biden-era spending levels. But Democrats rejected the deal for weeks, voting 14 times to reject that “clean CR.” “The hardcore Democrat base is set on extending the subsidies and shutting down the government pretty much indefinitely until they get their way,” observed González.

However, “the realistic wing of the party was already beginning to see what was never going to happen,” he added. The fact that Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), the number two-ranking Democrat in the Senate, was one of the eight who crossed the aisle to fund the government shows that, “privately, Democrats knew that this day was coming,” González continued. “They knew that, if Republicans held together, they were going to have to compromise on this and that they were going to have to yield.”

To give cover for Democrats facing competitive elections to vote for reopening the government, they had to “have a sacrificial lamb in leadership to take a vote that everybody knew was going to have to be taken,” González explained. After Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) was roasted by his party for taking a similar vote this spring, the uncomfortable duty fell to his second-in-command (not that Schumer has avoided criticism this time). The 80-year-old Durbin doesn’t plan to run for reelection again anyway.

As a further sign supporting this theory, González pointed to the fact that “they got exactly enough Democrats” to advance cloture. “No Democrat who didn’t absolutely have to vote for it, did,” he said. “The vote tally was clearly very calculated. … And so, obviously, although Schumer was a big public ‘no’ on this, he was obviously whipping behind the scenes to make sure this thing passed.”

Ironically, even parts of the Democratic base had recognized the inevitability of this outcome. Weeks ago, government employee unions were already calling for Congress to pass a clean CR to reopen the government — exactly the plan Republicans had advanced.

The deal struck in the Senate does vary from the CR the House passed in September, which would have kept the government open until November 18. Thune plans to replace that text with one that keeps the government funded until January 30.

The new deadline is “a win all the way around for conservatives … really one of the best-case scenarios that we could have hoped for,” González argued. “Appropriators had wanted something that would end around Christmas time, so we’d be right back here over Christmas, and appropriators would have the upper hand to lard this thing up with earmarks and kill conservative provisions.”

The Senate deal also includes the three appropriations bills that have passed through committee in the Senate. “There’s a lot to be left to be desired in the Senate version of those, because those were designed on a bipartisan basis,” González conceded. “They left out a lot of the great stuff that was in the House version of those bills.”

In the end, though, the longest government shutdown in history ended up being “a futile attempt by Democrats to achieve something that they had to have known all along was improbable and probably impossible: winning policy concessions by shutting down the government,” González summarized.

Conventional wisdom holds that no one ever wins a shutdown. But oftentimes it’s more important in Congress to stop bad ideas than advance good ones. By sticking together, Republicans achieve that here.

Now that some Democrats have broken ranks to reopen the government, the media narrative that Republicans were responsible is exposed as the farce that it always was. “People who voted against reopening the government denounced the vote, and vow to fight on were never against the shutdown,” argued National Review’s Dan McLaughlin. “There is no way to reconcile the furious response with the wholly false claim that it was Republicans, not Democrats, who shut down the government. It was always a lie, and they always knew it was a lie.”

On MSNBC, former Harris aide Symone Sanders Townsend criticized the Democrats who caved. “If they don’t get anything but a promise to vote later, then how do Senate Democrats explain the last 40 days to the people who have suffered?”

That’s a good question, but the proper time to ask it was before Democrats caused the suffering.

The Whitewashing of Zohran Mamdani Has Begun

Now that Zohran Mamdani has been elected mayor of New York City, the media have been cleaning up his history, trying to make him seem less threatening to the city’s Jews and more acceptable to the general public. More on what is being whitewashed, or deliberately overlooked altogether, for the benefit of Zohran Mamdani, can be found here: “Media Amnesia: Zohran Mamdani’s Extremism Forgotten as Pro-BDS Socialist Wins New York City Mayor,” by Rachel O’Donoghue, HonestReporting, November 5, 2025:

The clean-up has begun.

As votes rolled in and it became clear that Democrat nominee Zohran Mamdani had secured the landslide victory long predicted, the media whitewash was already underway.

Mamdani’s rise – from relative unknown to mayor of America’s largest city – is, politically speaking, extraordinary. He won more votes than any candidate in a New York City mayoral race in 50 years.

Mamdani’s “landslide” and “spectacular victory” was not, in fact, a landslide, and furthermore, not all that “spectacular.” He squeaked by, with only 50.4% of the vote, while running against one of the weakest candidates in recent years, Andrew Cuomo, who was fatally tainted by charges from eleven women of sexual harassment during his time in office as governor.

But it was also a campaign haunted by allegations of antisemitism, anti-Israel extremism, and sympathy for radical Islamist movements. Those allegations were well-founded, which is precisely why the media – until now – felt obliged at least to mention them, if only to dismiss them as “smears.”

Now that he’s won, even that pretense of scrutiny is vanishing.

The Record the Media Are Erasing

These facts are not in dispute – and they have all been previously documented by HonestReporting and others:

  • May 2021 – Pro-Palestinian rally, Manhattan:
Led BDS chants and attacked city officials who traveled to Israel.

Aug 4–6, 2023 – DSA National Convention, Chicago:
“When the boot of the NYPD is on your neck, it’s been laced by the IDF.” (Video resurfaced Oct 2025)

2023–2025 – Multiple posts and interviews:
Repeatedly labeled Israel an “apartheid” state and accused the U.S. of “subsidizing genocide.”

    June 5, 2025 – Media interview:
Refused to affirm Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state, saying instead that he supports “a state with equal rights for all” and opposes any “hierarchy of citizenship… on the basis of religion.”

June 8, 2025 – Cornell Tech boycott call:
Urged a boycott over the university’s partnership with Israel’s Technion.

    June 2025 – NBC’s “Meet the Press”:
Refused to condemn the slogan “globalize the intifada,” saying it’s “not language I use,” but stopping short of disavowing it….

“Globalize the intifada” means that “just as Jews in Israel were killed during the First and Second Intifadas, so now Jews everywhere (“globalize”) must be killed.

July 16, 2025 – Private meeting:
Said he wouldn’t use the phrase “globalize the intifada” going forward, but defended it as “a protest slogan against occupation.”

Is calling for the murder of Jews worldwide a legitimate “protest slogan against occupation”? How does the murder of Jews in France, or Germany, or the United States express one’s opposition to “occupation”? And since every last Israeli pulled out of the Strip in 2005, how can the word “occupation” conceivably apply to Gaza?

Oct 1–2, 2025 – ABC’s The View:
Called the Gaza war a “genocide” to audience applause….

And now that he’s Mayor, when the hurly-burly’s done, and the battle lost and won, can he be asked to explain on what evidence does he rely to call the Gaza war a “genocide”?

Oct 27–28, 2025 – Debate fallout:
Told an emotional story about a hijab-wearing “aunt” who stopped riding the subway after 9/11 over “Islamophobia” fears – but discrepancies later emerged, forcing him to walk back the claim and clarify that he had actually been referring to a cousin….

Mamdani did more than confuse his aunt with his cousin in this tale, but almost certainly made up the whole story of her supposed worry over “Islamophobia” out of whole cloth. Perhaps he could explain how he knows that a cousin had been “afraid” to go out in public wearing a hijab after 9/11. Does he know of any attacks on Muslims in New York after the 9/11 terrorist attacks? No, I thought not. So why should any Muslimah have been fearful of wearing a hijab in public? Tens of thousands of Muslim girls living in New York have appeared in public after 9/11 unconcernedly wearing their hijabs.

Then there’s Rolling Stone, which bizarrely claimed Mamdani “hasn’t said or done anything antisemitic” and “did not call to ‘globalize the intifada.’”

Mamdani has not “said or done anything antisemitic”? Is repeatedly and falsely accusing the Jewish state of committing genocide not antisemitic? Does his refusal to condemn the use of the phrase that calls for the mass murder of Jews worldwide — “globalize the Intifada” — not amount to antisemitism? Does his insistence that BDS — that is, the plan to devastate the Jewish state’s economy through boycotts, divestment, and sanctions — should be adopted everywhere not reveal Mamdani’s antisemitism? For he has not proposed applying BDS to any other country in the world — not to Putin’s Russia, despite its aggression against Ukraine, not to Iran, despite that country’s support for terrorism worldwide, not to China, despite its ruthless campaign to suppress the Uighurs. Mamdani has one measure for the Jewish state, and another for all other countries on our giddy globe.

The whitewashing of Zohran Mamdani in the media, whether by failing to note so many examples of his anti-Israel animus, or by misinterpreting them so as to soften their meaning, is already well underway. But when next January he becomes mayor, and then begins to implement his hugely expensive economic measures — the free buses, the free and universal childcare, the city-owned food stores — to be paid for by a rise in taxes for the well-off that will lead many of them to move out of the city, thereby shrinking New York City’s tax base, and with companies also moving out of New York, in response to Mamdani’s increase in corporate taxes, shrinking that tax base still further, people will become less willing to overlook or forgive his animus for Israel.

All the excitement about this young Lochinvar come out of the east, the best thing, we are being asked to believe, to happen to American politics in many years, or so his supporters devoutly insist, will eventually die down as Mamdani’s supreme incompetence undermines his supreme self-confidence.

EXCLUSIVE: RNC Responds To 28 Bomb Threats, Nearly 500 Tips Of Suspicious Election Activity

The Republican National Committee responded to 28 bomb threats and nearly 500 tips while Americans voted Nov. 4, officials told the Daily Caller, the latest example of their efforts to secure election integrity.

Ahead of the 2025 elections, the RNC put an election integrity team on the ground in both Virginia and New Jersey and invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in the cycle, the Caller previously reported. Prior to Election Day, the party recruited 964 poll workers in New Jersey and successfully placed 463 on Election Day, more than double what had been achieved in previous years, the Caller learned.

“Election integrity is essential, and the RNC is leading the fight to secure the ballot. This cycle, we are building a strong ground operation with staff, attorneys, and volunteers to ensure accountability at every level,” RNC Chairman Joe Gruters told the Caller in a statement.

“In New Jersey and Virginia, our teams resolved hundreds of issues in real time, defended ballot security laws, and made sure every lawful vote was counted. While Democrats try to make it easier to cheat, Republicans are safeguarding confidence in our elections,” the chairman continued.

The increase in poll workers and volunteer attorneys on the ground in both New Jersey and Virginia helped the RNC respond to 478 reports of voting issues on election day, the party shared with the Caller. The reports ranged from polling place disturbances and machine malfunctions to voter check-in and accessibility concerns.

A party election integrity official told the Caller that they tracked bomb threats at 28 locations during last Tuesday’s voting, which affected 37 precincts.

The official explained to the Caller how they respond to such security threats in real time. The party will get an immediate notification of election integrity concerns from one of their poll observers on the ground, and then the worker tracks how long voting booths are closed.

“We just tried to continuously feed information back up to the beast so that we at the top can then communicate to elected officials, to local police, to the registrars of election, whomever is in charge at that specific location … so we know exactly what what they’re tracking, and we just try to have a dialogue,” the party official told the Caller.

“And it’s never antagonistic. It is just truly dialogue. So we can, you know, help communicate and find a solution,” the official continued.

The party also got involved in a lawsuit in New Jersey to stop the Bergen County Board of Elections from counting over 300 “naked” ballots, which did not have an inner envelope. The judge sided with the party, ruling that the ballots violated the law.

Since breaking free of a 1982 consent decree in 2018, the GOP has been building up its election integrity efforts. The RNC finally began diving head first into the election integrity realm in 2022, an official previously told the Caller. Then-RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel established an official department for election integrity following the 2022 midterm elections which allowed the party to pull resources from all departments, such as communications, politics, and legal, the Caller previously reported.

The 2024 election cycle was about building the department up, and positioned the party to continue to make real progress in the 2025 off-year election and the 2026 midterms, an official previously told the Caller. Coming off a strong presidential election cycle for the department, a RNC official told the Caller that they were able to put boots on the ground much earlier in Virginia and New Jersey than in years past.

Before doing that, the party recruited 1,500 election judges in Pennsylvania, the official shared, adding that they had a team in California tracking the Proposition 50 gerrymandering proposal. In Wisconsin, the party is continuing to work on recruiting poll workers, the official shared.

The official told the Caller that the department has not stopped working on the election integrity despite Trump’s victory in November. The department kept a full staff while other departments lost people who joined the administration.

“What we have at the RNC is we have more continuity than any department of staff that are true believers in building an election integrity operation,” the official told the Caller. “Everybody that is on our team right now participated in election integrity in one way, shape or form, last election cycle.”

Spoiled Rich Kids Go Jihad

Muslims in their late teens and early twenties have recently been arrested in Michigan, New Jersey, and Washington state. They all seem to have been involved in plotting jihad massacres for the Islamic State: the Michigan jihadis wanted to hit gay bars in Detroit, and the Seattle and New Jersey jihadis were formulating plans for jihad massacres at Jewish targets. Such jihad plots are certain to become increasingly common in the U.S., given mass Muslim migration with the unshakeable assumption that every Muslim who enters the country is a “moderate.” The jihadis in Washington and New Jersey, however, show the falsity of another core assumption: that poverty and lack of education leads to terrorism.

The would-be jihad mass murderers in question, Milo Sedarat and Tomas Kaan Jimenez-Guzel, are both spoiled rich kids who have lived lives of privilege. The New York Post reported Thursday that nineteen-year-old Milo Sedarat, who is the son of  famous Iranian-American poet, Roger Sedarat, “bragged about being ‘the biggest antisemite in America’” and “ranted about how he wanted to murder his artist mom’s Jewish friends.” He also “menacingly posed for pictures in his $1.2 million family home with swords and knives,” while apparently Dad was nearby placidly writing poetry.

Sedarat told an online friend: “I can’t wait for the day I get to execute like 10 yahood,” that is, Jews. He added: “Line up like 500 Jews and execute them in front of their wives and family. Then take all their wives [as] slaves. Imma [that is, I’m going to] have like 10 yahood slave girls inshallah.”

Meanwhile, Tomas Kaan Jimenez-Guzel, also 19 and the son of a UN diplomat, volunteered to behead people for propaganda videos, and said that he wanted the group to “do something that’s going to leave a mark in history. Something that’s gonna make them create a documentary on you on Netflix. Something that’s gonna make you have a Wikipedia page.”

This sort of thing isn’t supposed to happen, at least according to the conventional wisdom. Learned analysts since 9/11, and before that, have told us repeatedly that terrorism is a result of desperation, a desperate lashing-out on the part of people who are suffering under grinding poverty and lack of opportunity. As they have no opportunity to get adequate instruction in their peaceful religion of Islam, they are susceptible to the twisted, hijacked version of Islam that jihad preachers present to them. Further enticing them is the promise of virgins in paradise, as well as earthly rewards for their families from the government of the Palestinian Authority and others.

The solution to jihad terrorism, seen in this light, is money. If non-Muslims shower money on Muslim communities, and build roads and schools and hospitals for them, Muslims will go to the schools and learn that their religion actually teaches peace, tolerance, and love. Once they graduate, they’ll be able to pursue all manner of opportunities, and thus have no problem resisting the lure of the jihad preachers.

This is the strategy that the U.S. pursued in Iraq and Afghanistan, and continues to pursue. When Old Joe Biden’s regime sent $100 million to Gaza and $20 billion to Iran after the October 7 jihad attacks, it was pursuing this strategy. It is quite clear, however, and has been for years, that this approach doesn’t work. Muslims don’t turn to jihad because they’re poor and uneducated, and showering money upon them won’t make them love the United States. Osama bin Laden, after all, was one of the world’s richest men, and yet he chose the path of jihad anyway.

And so did these two spoiled rich kids, Milo Sedarat and Tomas Kaan Jimenez-Guzel. Hijackers of Islam didn’t bamboozle them. They clearly found the Qur’an’s numerous denunciations of Jews, and calls for violence against unbelievers, to be compelling. And this is the alternative to the mainstream view in general: if poverty and lack of opportunity don’t cause terrorism, what does? Ideology. Beliefs. No one in the U.S. government, however, at any point on the political spectrum, wants to go near this quite obvious fact, because we have been indoctrinated relentlessly for a quarter-century to assume that to recognize this was a kind of “bigotry” and “hatred.”

Zohran Mamdani: Stupid or Evil?

My latest in PJ Media is a VIP article.

We know that New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani doesn’t want to defund the police, because he just assured us that he didn’t, despite having repeatedly called for defunding the police during the darkest days of the nationwide George Floyd riots. The budding statesman has since clarified what he says he really meant: that he’ll dismantle the NYPD’s Strategic Response Group (SRG), which handles counterterrorism and riot control, and send social workers instead of cops to take care of cases of domestic violence and the like. Oh. Well, that makes it all okay, doesn’t it?

There is more. Read the rest here.

Florida: Muslim calls in bomb threat to Tallahasee synagogue, threatens DeSantis

He had previously been sent for an involuntary mental health evaluation. Public officials don’t admit that Islamic jihad exists, so they have to find some other explanation for jihadis, and have decided they’re mentally ill. They won’t be able to keep this up forever. Ali Bayhan, for one, was still violent and hate-filled after his mental health evaluation; it neither did him any good nor kept him off the streets.

“Florida police kill Turkish man threatening Tallahassee synagogue, Ron DeSantis,” Jerusalem Post, November 8, 2025:

A Florida resident shot and killed a Turkish national on Thursday after deputies said they saw him reaching for a gun while they were serving him a warrant related to threats he had made against both a Tallahassee synagogue and public officials, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office said.

Ali Bayhan, 38, was suspected of making threats against multiple elected officials, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, and of calling in a bomb threat to Temple Israel in Tallahassee, the office told local media station WCJB.

Tallahassee police officials told local media that the synagogue received the non-credible bomb threat on Wednesday via phone call, determined to have been made by Bayhan.

In a statement released following the threat, the synagogue said that it had called law enforcement after evacuating the building.

“The threat, though later proven groundless, was taken seriously, handled following our emergency procedures, and resolved thoroughly and efficiently,” Temple Israel’s statement read.

“It is important to note that the threat contained neither antisemitic nor anti-Zionist content. All indications are that it came from a mentally troubled individual,” it added.

Suspect was flagged for involuntary mental health evaluation

Bayhan had posted notions on social media about destroying the temple, Fox News reported….

Alachua County courts had ordered Bayhan to receive an involuntary mental health evaluation following concerns his family expressed regarding his mental state.

Christian Traditions Being Pinched Between a Hostile Growing Islamic Population and a Hostile Leftist Secularism

If you want to see the future of America, just look at Germany.

The situation in Germany this Christmas should be a wake-up call to every American city that has a growing Muslim population along with Democrats in control of its governing apparatus.

Overath, a town of 27,000 people in North-Rhine Westphalia near Cologne, recently announced this year’s Christmas market has been canceled. The security cost required to protect visitors from potential terrorist attacks exceeds the budget of the event organizer. The local city government refuses to step in and cover any of the expenses, according to Rheinische Post. Christians, or at least those who still profess to be such, seem all too ready for capitulation.

The European Conservative writes:

“The Overath market will not be held as ever more frequent stabbings, car attacks and bomb threats during the holiday period have made security too costly.”

Thomas Kolbe, in an article at Zero Hedge, notes that since 2015, when Angela Merkel embarked on a full-blown open-borders policy, Germany and the other European countries have been slowly committing national suicide.

“The mass influx of young men from predominantly Islamic countries has deeply shattered the population’s sense of identity” and security, he writes.

Of course we didn’t need Kolbe to tell us that. I predicted it in articles as far back as 2014 and did a deep dive on the topic in my 2017 book, Stealth Invasion, which got banned by Amazon a few years later. I was also blackballed from the mainstream media after publishing that book. Nobody wanted to hear the truth about what mass Islamic immigration means for Western civilization.

Now that it’s becoming more obvious, to the point where even mainstream politicians like Chancellor Friedrich Merz have begun speaking out about the changing face of German cities, I don’t hear any apologies coming my way from Amazon or anyone else.

Even after deadly Islamist attacks, including when Berlin’s most important city square was hit in 2016 with 12 victims, followed by the Solingen festival stabbing in 2023 with three dead, or the bombing plot at the Magdeburg Christmas market last year, Germany still refuses to confront militant Islam pressing into Europe.

The list of Islamist attacks in Germany and Europe is a long one. Kolbe notes that when traditional festivals like Christmas markets are only possible behind heavy police presence and concrete barriers to stop jihadist vehicle attacks, it shows how intimidation of secular Western society has become wildly successful.

The cancelation of this year’s Christmas market in Overath is just the latest scene in a decades-long motion picture horror show. High security costs to protect visitors from terrorism make it impossible to open. The same is true in Dresden and many other German cities.

One would think they’ve reached a tipping point, where people rise up and say, no moreWe’re taking our country back!

But there is no sign of courage or serious public resistance in sight.

In Overath, Islamists have managed, without any real resistance, to push aside a piece of tradition and communal life.

The pathetic renaming of Christmas markets into so-called Winter Markets represents a submission to Islam. A needless capitulation. Of course, this is where the interests of the Islamists and the secularists intersect, as the godless left has always hated Christmas and sought to replace it with a generic holiday like “winter break” or some nonsense like that. We’ve seen the same transformation in our public schools in America over the last 30 years, where Easter/Pascha and Christmas have been renamed so as not to offend the non-Christian faiths or those with no faith at all.

Germany is trapped in an identity crisis and a cultural meltdown. It’s like they no longer even care. Can the U.S. be far behind in this process of de-Christianization?

New York City, with the election last week of a Marxist Muslim mayor, is on the same trajectory. As are many other American cities, like Minneapolis, Dearborn. Hamtramck, Seattle and so many others that live largely under the boot of Islam on the one hand, and the cultural Marxists on the other.

At what point does the West wake up? And will it be too late? That’s a question to ponder as we head into the Christian holiday of Christmas. Don’t take it for granted, because it’s definitely under attack on more than one front.

I expect the pressures of this pincer movement to crowd out Christian traditions to intensify in the years to come. I would love to hear your suggestions on what the proper Christian response should be, so leave your ideas in the comments below. But please don’t tell me that all of today’s Christian holidays are mere recreations of old pagan celebrations, as I think that misses the point of what’s happening all together.
