David Carlin: Beware of churches, whether Catholic or Protestant, that advertise themselves as “welcoming,” because that suggests institutional suicide.
In my hometown of Newport R.I., there is a beautiful old Episcopal church, Trinity Church. The parish was established in 1698, an Anglican beachhead in Puritan New England; and the church building itself, modeled on some of Christopher Wren’s City of London churches, was built in 1726.
It was the church of George Berkeley (later Bishop Berkeley), the Anglo-Irish philosopher who stopped in Newport for a couple of years while getting ready to go to Bermuda, where he planned to found a college to train missionaries for work among American Indians. Berkeley was waiting for money for his college to arrive from Prime Minister Robert Walpole, but the PM decided to spend the money instead on a royal wedding. So Berkeley had to abandon Bermuda and Newport. He went home to Ireland, leaving behind him a house (ironically named Whitehall), which is still standing today, nearly 300 years later.
Anyway, I was walking by the church the other day, admiring its beauty, when I noticed a banner attached to poles. Written on the banners were the following words: “We are people who believe in justice, come believe with us.” Other banners on other poles substituted the words “hope,” “peace,” and “grace” for the word “justice.”
Lovely sentiments and lovely invitations. They happen to ornament an Episcopal church, but (except for the word “grace”) they might just as well have ornamented the front window of the headquarters of the Communist Party. Who doesn’t believe in justice and peace and hope?
As for grace, it’s an ambiguous word, which sometimes has a Christian meaning but often does not. You might have thought that a church named “Trinity” would have a banner that said, “We are people who believe in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. Come believe with us.” Or perhaps, “We are people who believe in Jesus Christ, true man and true God. Come believe with us.”
But no. Banners like that would not be “inclusive,” and in the secular (or secularist) culture that dominates present-day America, the greatest of all values is inclusivity. Its opposite, exclusivity, is a great sin. Racism is a great sin, and so is sexism, and so is homophobia, and so is transphobia, and so is xenophobia, and so is Islamophobia.
These “isms” and “phobias” are great sins against the supreme value of inclusivity. This value used to be called tolerance; but the word “tolerance” has negative associations. It’s as if the merely tolerant person is saying, “You’re wrong, but I’m willing to put up with you.”
By contrast, the person who believes in unlimited inclusivity is saying, “You’re right, and I want you in my circle of friends. Everybody is right – except of course those awful people who practice exclusivity.”
The old comedian Flip Wilson used to play a character who was a minister of “The Church of What’s Happenin’ Now.” I am not personally acquainted with the female priest who is the rector of Trinity Church in Newport, but I strongly suspect that she too belongs to the Church of What’s Happenin’ Now. Otherwise, how could she have approved of the barely-Christian justice-peace-hope-grace banners that now ornament her church?Another clerical member of “The Church of What’s Happenin’ Now” is Father James Martin S.J., who, as he made perfectly clear in his book Building a Bridge, wants the Catholic Church to be “inclusive” of homosexuals.
The problem is: Catholicism is not an inclusive religion. True, it is morally inclusive. That is, it is quite willing to accept as members people who are thieves, fornicators, adulterers, liars, wife-beaters, homosexuals, members of the Mafia, etc. Being wicked doesn’t get you kicked out of the Catholic Church. In fact, the Church claims that it exists for the sake of bad people.
It exists for the purpose of helping bad people become good – indeed, of helping them not just to become good but to become saints.
But the Catholic Church is definitely not doctrinally inclusive. And it never has been. Even in the New Testament (written in the first century A.D.) heresies are condemned. The Catholic religion is not one that has ever said, “We believe what everybody believes: that water is wet, that fire is hot, and that justice and peace are good things.”
No, Catholicism has always said, “We are a religion with a creed that is intended to include some people and exclude others, and if you disagree with the articles of our creed you cannot be a true member of our Church. We will have to exclude you.”
Among the doctrines of the Catholic Church are moral doctrines, e.g., that abortion is wrong, that homosexual behavior is wrong, that marriage is indissoluble. From a contemporary secularist point of view, these moral doctrines are out-dated, not to mention that they are cruel. And from a “liberal” Christian point of view (liberal Christianity being nothing more than secularism with a little religious fairy dust sprinkled on it), they are also out-dated and cruel.
Liberal Christianity used to be a Protestant monopoly. In recent times, it has invaded Catholicism. It tends to ruin any Christian denomination that embraces it – for example, The Episcopal Church, which is now in a state of virtual collapse. It is currently ruining Catholicism in the United States (and elsewhere).
Beware of churches, whether Catholic or Protestant, that advertise themselves as “welcoming.” Translated into English, “welcoming” means “We are in the process of committing institutional suicide. Come join us as we leap off the bridge.”

With Halloween around the corner, Target is getting all sorts of attention for its costumes, decorations, and candies. Yet the eeriest part of Target’s Halloween offerings are not its masks or bats, but the fact that it still allows men into women’s changing rooms.
It’s up to 2ndVote shoppers to make sure they keep their kids safe and have a great time on the scariest night of the year. 2ndVote recommends the following companies which don’t put politics ahead of customers:
Party City, Family Dollar, and Dollar Treeare all exactly neutral on 2ndVote’s issues. They take a stand for serving customers instead of left-wing politics. As more and more corporations use their customers’ money for political activity which is against America’s values and traditions, 2ndVote shoppers should make sure these companies feel appreciated.
Of course, any Halloween retail recommendations can’t leave out Hobby Lobby. This amazing company is hugely popular already, and especially so since it defeated against the Obama administration’s abortifacient/contraception/sterilization mandate. Shopping here lets them know their fight over four years ago is still appreciated.
As Halloween approaches, be sure to shop #AnywhereButTarget to let them know that you haven’t forgotten about their dangerous policies. Your kids’ costumes should be the scariest part of Halloween.

We reported in September that Google was suspected of working with the Chinese government to develop a search platform which fit China’s goals to stifle free speech.
Now Google has admitted that it is doing this. Via Hot Air earlier this week:
Last night, Google CEO Sundar Pichai confirmed months of rumors in a presentation hosted by Wired Magazine last night. Not only has Google worked on a new platform called “Dragonfly” to launch in China, they have perfected it for China’s censorship regime — which is tasked with stamping out dissent.
The good thing is that 2ndVote consumers in America still have the freedom to tell Google to take a hike. You can fight back against Google by changing search engines. DuckDuckGo prioritizes consumer privacy and is neutral on all of 2ndVote’s issue categories. And we have found Brave.com to be a similarly neutral web browser option, founded by former Mozilla executive Brendan Eich.

This week, Gallup released the results of a poll which included a finding that should surprise no one: Americans oppose a ban on AR-15s and similar semiautomatic firearms by robust a margin of 17%. Meanwhile, current support for such a ban is 7% lower than the historical trend dating back to 1996, when Gallup first began polling on the issue. Americans, in other words, appear not to have been swayed by the intense media editorializing, celebrity pontificating, and youthful activism of the past year aimed at prohibiting what are by all accounts the most popular types of rifles in the country.
Of course, even in America, you could probably find people who would claim to support a ban on apple pie. It’s not very nutritious, they might say. It’s regressive, others might insist. Americans, after all, have the right to their opinions, even the unpopular ones.
When it comes to guns, the minority opinion is strongest among people who identify as Democrats. Gallup’s latest poll shows 56% of Democrats would support a ban on semiautomatic rifles, 16% above the national average. That is more than twice the percentage of Republicans (25%) who responded the same way. But even among Democrats, support for a semiauto ban has fallen 7 points since this time last year, notwithstanding the fact that some pundits were predicting that 2018 would finally be the year when banning highly popular guns would somehow become a winning political issue.
So what has all the “game-changing” post-Parkland grandstanding accomplished in the last eight months?
When it comes to banning guns, apparently nothing.
And it’s not just us who think so.
No one individual has shoveled more bad money into the gun control cause than billionaire Michael Bloomberg. In fact his insistence on burning huge sums of money on the issue for minimal returns almost makes you wonder how he ever got so rich in the first place.
But even he seems to understand the reality of the current situation.
According to an article in the Washington Times, Everytown for Gun Safety – the umbrella group for Bloomberg’s gun control activism – has actually shifted its midterm election spending into “ads covering abortion, health care and the Republican tax bill – but nary a mention of assault rifles … . “
Commenting for the article, gun control advocate Adam Winkler mused, “Perhaps the gun issue has waned a bit in the absence of highly publicized mass shootings in the past few months.”
And that, of course, is the irony of the gun ban movement: it needs the very events it claims to want to prevent for anyone to pay attention to it.
Even then, however, that attention and intensity typically prove to be short-lived.
Hyping other issues, of course, does not actually signal a retreat by Everytown from its gun control agenda. Rather, it’s a recognition that gun controllers will have to buy votes and politicians by other means to force their prohibitionist views downward on the American people, rather than using those views to inspire people to support their candidates in the first place.
In other words, it’s pretty much the opposite of a true grassroots approach.
Take, for example, Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO), who was embarrassed this week by the release of audio recordings catching her and her staffers admitting that they conceal or downplay her true positions on issues like gun control in order to mislead voters on the positions she will take once elected.
All this is exactly why NRA-ILA – a true grassroots organization – is dedicated to ensuring that voters know exactly what they’re getting when it comes to the Second Amendment views of political candidates.
You might even say we try to make it as easy as pie … apple pie, of course.

“Seattle was supposed to be this shining beacon of what the possibilities were for your life, raising your kids, your family… there’s a lot going on here that’s being actively ignored. WASHINGTON (ChurchMilitant.com) – The federal government has issued subpoenas to multiple Pennsylvania dioceses in a criminal probe into sex abuse cover-up. The subpoenas were served last week, but news of the investigation only broke Thursday.
So far, seven out of eight Pennsylvania dioceses — Erie, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Allentown, Scranton, Pittsburgh and Greensburg — have confirmed they have received subpoenas, some stating they will cooperate with the investigation. Two Eastern Catholic dioceses are also being investigated: the Byzantine Archeparchy of Pittsburgh and the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparhcy of Philadelphia.
The investigation is being spearheaded by U.S. Attorney General William McSwain, who is asking clergy to testify before a grand jury in Philadelphia with regard to possible federal crimes. Bishops are being asked to turn over documents stored in their secret archives, which contain information about clergy misconduct including sex abuse. Bishops are also being asked to hand over evidence of: priests transporting children across state lines for illegal purposes, priests sending or receiving sexual imagery on their phones or computers, clergy being told not to contact law enforcement, predator priests being reassigned; or money being used for illegal purposes.
Mitchell Garabedian, the famous Boston lawyer who helped expose the sex abuse scandal in 2002, expressed surprise by the subpoeans.
“This is the first time I have ever heard of a federal investigation into child sexual abuse in a Catholic diocese or church,” he said. “This is a monumental moment for clergy sexual victims everywhere.”
After Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro published the bombshell grand jury report in mid-August, Shapiro explained that he had received phone calls from the Department of Justice.
In an interview with The New York Times, Shapiro was asked about the possibility of a federal probe into sex abuse cover-up in the Church. Shapiro said, “I have spoken to a representative of the Department of Justice. Beyond that, I do not think it would be prudent for me to comment.”
He continued:
I have heard from several attorneys general of both parties, from really across the country, trying to understand how we conducted our investigation, asking in some cases general — and in some cases very specific — questions about either the broad structure of an investigation, or a specific priest who might now be within their state.
Church Militant in previous weeks had also confirmed with government sources that the Department of Justice was seriously contemplating a RICO investigation into the Church.
RICO is a federal law created in 1970 to combat organized crime. It enables prosecutors to go after a criminal organization, rather than simply individual members connected to it.
An online poll taken by Church Militant found 88 percent of Catholics wanted decisive action by the federal government, answering “yes” to the question whether the U.S. government should launch an investigation to see if Church leaders have violated RICO statutes in covering up and transporting sexually predatory priest for decades.
The diocese issued a statement Thursday confirming the probe.
Several months ago, we received a call from the local U.S. Attorney’s office with a request to review documents. A subpoena was provided and after some discussion, an agreement was reached to produce documents. We have heard nothing since early June. As far as we know, our response has nothing to do with the current Pennsylvania investigation that has just begun.
Church Militant has published a series of investigative reports on the Buffalo diocese involving current Bishop Richard Malone, accused of grossly underreporting the number of accused priests (he publicly claimed his diocese had 42 accused priests when the number was more than twice that) as well as placing notorious abuser Fr. Dennis Riter, accused of forcing a six-year-old into oral sex, back into active ministry.
Malone is also implicated in the possible murder of whistleblower priest Fr. Joseph Moreno, found dead in his rectory in 2012 only days before he was scheduled to visit the papal nuncio with a file exposing homosexual abuse and corruption in the diocese. A number of irregularities at the crime scene — including two bullet wounds to the back of his head, lack of gun powder residue or blood spatter, the near-impossibility of shooting himself with his left hand, which suffered irreparable nerve damage, video footage showing three black-hooded men running from the rectory, and items broken into or missing from his rectory — throw into serious doubt the official story that Moreno committed suicide.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., spoke to The Daily Signal this week about Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and the left’s embrace of mob rule. He also addressed the disappearance of Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi and Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s DNA test results. An edited transcript of the interview is below. Full audio of the interview is available on The Daily Signal Podcast.
Bluey: You are here at The Heritage Foundation’s President’s Club meeting to talk about Justice [Brett] Kavanaugh. During the Judiciary Committee hearings, you made some passionate remarks when he was defending himself. Many people felt he wasn’t afforded due process. He was presumed guilty. What prompted you to speak so passionately?
Lindsey Graham: He was being humiliated. I voted for [Sonia] Sotomayor and [Elena] Kagan because I thought they were qualified. It used to be that way. [Former Sen.] Strom Thurmond voted for [Ruth Bader] Ginsburg. [Former Sen.] Fritz Hollings voted for [Antonin] Scalia. That’s the way it used to be, so obviously things have changed now.
What got me going so much is that I’ve known Brett for 20 years. We’re not close friends, but we’re friendly. I worked with him in the Bush White House. He’s the cream of the crop judicially. You want to reward President Trump when he makes a good decision. He could not have chosen better, and what I saw was an effort to humiliate a guy who didn’t deserve it. I can’t imagine me doing that to Sotomayor and Kagan.
What got me the most was, “If you’re really innocent, turn to Don McGahn and ask to continue the FBI investigation of your life, and keep ruining your own family.” Dr. [Christine Blasey] Ford was listened to respectfully. I think something happened to her, but I don’t think Kavanaugh had anything to do with it. It was just an effort to destroy a good man for political purposes, and I hope it backfires on them.

Bluey: It’s one of those situations where, as you’ve noted, you’ve supported President Obama’s nominees in the past. You even had Ruth Bader Ginsburg lamenting the state of the confirmation process for Supreme Court justices. Where do we go from here? Because obviously you have—
Graham: Good question.
Bluey: … I think 118 vacancies on federal courts.
Graham: Yeah, good question.
Bluey: Are you going to be able to confirm these nominees?
Graham: Well, Mitch McConnell has done a fantastic job. We’ve done a lot with 51 votes. We got one Democratic vote for Judge Kavanaugh, just a handful for Justice [Neil] Gorsuch. The bottom line is, if this is not the bottom, I’d hate to see it. I hope this blows up in their face politically. These red state Democrats had to choose between the mob and decency. I think they’re in trouble, so I hope we have far more than 51.
These red state Democrats had to choose between the mob and decency.
There may be more vacancies coming up sooner rather than later. Only God knows. Justice [Clarence] Thomas is a great guy. He’s in his 70s. I don’t know what his plans are, but I know this, President Trump has chosen two highly qualified nominees that are going to change the court over time, and we don’t want to run good people off from being judges.
Here’s the question for you and anybody else, after what you saw, would you want to be a judge?
Bluey: Well, you posed that question, I believe, during the committee hearing.
Graham: Yeah.
Bluey: You said if Republicans voted against Justice Kavanaugh—
Graham: You’re legitimizing a complete character assassination.
Bluey: And you wouldn’t have other people who wouldn’t want to serve in public or step up into that situation.
Graham: No. 1, you’re rewarding them. Just put the shoe on the other foot. Let’s say this is a male Democratic nominee, and someone like Dr. Ford came to South Carolina and gave me information about a 36-year-old allegation. I withheld it from the committee, never confronted the nominee with it. I recommended a conservative lawyer who never told the woman that the Democrats would be willing to come to South Carolina to avoid having to come to Washington, and somebody on my staff leaked her information and betrayed her request to be anonymous.
There’s two things I learned here: how in the tank the media really is for the liberal causes, and how far the left will go.
We’d be killed if somebody on our side said, “We’re only doing this to hold open the seat so that we can get back the Senate and maybe a Republican can fill this seat.” If the shoe were on the other foot, the media would be going nuts. There’s two things I learned here: how in the tank the media really is for the liberal causes, and how far the left will go. I hope it backfires.

Bluey: Now, we’ve also seen quite an enthusiasm among Republicans—
Graham: You’ve got that right.
Bluey: … now and conservatives because I think of exactly what you’re describing. What have you seen back in your home state of South Carolina?
Graham: Unbelievable. I can’t walk 5 feet at home. I mean, I get some criticism, but Republican women are very energized. Dr. Ford, I think something did happen, but you have to corroborate an accusation. The accusation can’t be the proof itself. Really, there was nothing there. Everything that Dr. Ford said nobody could corroborate.
Susan Collins did a fantastic job of explaining why a rational person would vote for Judge Kavanaugh. We’re all united because of what they did to Brett Kavanaugh.
The bottom line is that Judge Kavanaugh has led an exemplary life. Everything goes against these accusations. The Avenatti claim was just the dam breaking, but the bottom line is, the response back home has been incredible.
If you had made a bid that somebody would come up with a plan to get Sean Hannity to raise money for [Sen.] Susan Collins on the radio, nobody could have thought of this. Susan Collins did a fantastic job of explaining why a rational person would vote for Judge Kavanaugh. This has taken libertarians, vegetarians, Trump Republicans, Bush Republicans. We’re all united because of what they did to Brett Kavanaugh, and this is a good time for the Republican Party.
Bluey: At the same time you’re seeing a lot of enthusiasm and support, you also saw [Sen.] Jeff Flake confronted in an elevator, Susan Collins being called a rape apologist, and terrible things happening to your colleagues.
Graham: It’s just awful.
Bluey: How are they taking it personally and handling it?
Graham: Susan Collins is tough as nails. She methodically went through the Democratic reaction to the nomination. They were against Kavanaugh before they even knew who he was. She went through his history of being a judge, how mainstream he is, the allegations. I thought she handled herself beautifully.
What’s on the ballot in 2018 is an attitude. Who are we as a country? Do we really believe in the rule of law, or are we just so angry that mob rule will take over the rule of law?
Jeff Flake wanted to know more, and we worked as a team to have a supplemental, the seventh investigation that confirmed or that helped Kavanaugh.
I appreciate Jeff and I appreciate Susan for taking their jobs seriously. We gave them the space they needed to get to yes, and the bottom line is, I’ve been here for over 20 years and I’ve never seen anything like that.
The choice now is not about an issue. It’s about an attitude. What’s on the ballot in 2018 is an attitude. Who are we as a country? Do we really believe in the rule of law, or are we just so angry that mob rule will take over the rule of law? That’s what’s on the ballot.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has overseen the confirmation of 84 federal judges under President Donald Trump. (Photo: Erin Granzow for The Daily Signal)
Bluey: As a member of the Judiciary Committee, you know the Senate’s role of advice and consent very well. You have confirmed 84 of President Trump’s judicial nominees. 20-some circuit court nominees, including two Supreme Court justices.
Graham: Yeah. Historic.
Bluey: How significant is that for our federal courts?
Graham: Generational change. Senator [Chuck] Grassley has done a marvelous job. He’s not a lawyer, but he’s fair-minded. I think he’s tough but fair, and I think that came through. Mitch McConnell has been strategic in his thinking, and I am really proud of our 51-seat Republican majority. Many times, it was just 50. We’ve done a lot.
Harry Reid made this possible. He’s the one that changed the rules. I was in the Gang of 14 when they filibustered all the Bush nominees to stop filibustering judges unless there’s an extraordinary circumstance.
The Kavanaugh effect is real. There was this election before Kavanaugh, and there’s the election after Kavanaugh.
The Senate used to do this. Most Supreme Court nominees were voted on without a hearing. Things have changed. Bork started it, and it’s just gotten worse. The bottom line, I got a call from Senator [Chuck] Schumer the night before they changed the rules in 2013. I said, “You’ll regret this, because it’s Harry Reid’s desire to pack the circuit court that led to this.”
I just hope we don’t run good people away from serving. I hope we get north of 55 senators. The Kavanaugh effect is real. There was this election before Kavanaugh, and there’s the election after Kavanaugh.
Bluey: I want to ask you about two other issues. The first is Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi. You’ve been outspoken on this. Where do we stand right now, and what are you hoping to do in the Senate?
Graham: Well, I’m hoping to make them pay a price. I’ve been the leading advocate for this relationship. I was on the floor making sure we didn’t stop arms sales to fight Iran’s proxies in Yemen. I’ve been on the floor to make sure that the 9/11 lawsuits wouldn’t taint the relationship. I have supported the Saudi partnership. I’ve never felt so betrayed.
MBS [Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman] is 33 years old, and he’s a wrecking ball. They kidnapped the Lebanese prime minister for a while. They imposed an embargo on Qatar overnight without talking to us. He talks about a vision of 2030, then he throws everybody in jail he doesn’t like.
I am convinced that this happened at the direction of the Saudi government, that teams of assassins were sent to the consulate. Every norm that we believe in, which is freedom of expression, journalism, free speech, an independent press, extrajudicial killings, all that was ignored. It shows contempt for us as a partner. President Trump may not see it this way, but it shows a lot of disrespect to him. Name one president that’s been better to Saudi Arabia.
To hatch this plot, and I am a lawyer, I believe in the rule of law, but all the corroboration is there if you want to see it, the way that MBS was behaving before, these people showing up right before the event, luring the guy in for a week. He walks in, and never comes out. They lie about what happened the first time around. Yeah, I’m really convinced that this was an extrajudicial killing of a dissident. We deal with bad people all the time, but when you put it in our face like this, I hope we respond.
Bluey: We’ll be following it closely. Finally, I want to ask you, your colleague from Massachusetts has come out with her DNA results. You have said yourself that you’re willing to take—
Graham: I’m not so sure I would have done that.
Bluey: Are you going to take a DNA test?
Graham: I am taking one. I’ve been told, and I don’t know if it’s true or not, that my grandmother was part Cherokee Indian. I’m going to find out. The bottom line here is that I’ve traveled with Elizabeth Warren. She can be very gracious. I don’t like her political philosophy domestically. She’s visited the troops during the holidays. I appreciate that.
But if the shoe were on the other foot, again, if a conservative had been doing this, saying that, “I’m a member of an Indian tribe,” and academia was selling this, we’d be getting killed. We’ll have a little fun with this. This is politics. I don’t mean to be mean-spirited, but I can tell you this, if you’re less than 1/10th of 1 percent of anything, you need to be careful about what you say.
Bluey: Senator Graham, thanks so much for speaking to The Daily Signal.

To most people, it seemed odd when Planned Parenthood released its first round of campaign spending back in March, and Missouri wasn’t on it. After all, Senator Claire McCaskill (D) is a woman, she’s pro-abortion, and Planned Parenthood was one of her biggest supporters when she won the seat in 2012. “Either McCaskill is a lost cause,” reporters speculated, or something else is going on. Turns out, there’s plenty going on. And thanks to Project Veritas, voters have a front-row seat.
Maybe, the Washington Examiner said at the time, “Planned Parenthood is keeping its distance to protect McCaskill… whose voters may be less inclined to support lawmakers affiliated with the controversial organization.” Well, Planned Parenthood may be keeping its distance publicly, but according to campaign staff, the financial support never stopped. They just moved it off the books and behind the scenes, where voters in Missouri would never know. In a new video from James O’Keefe, voters are finding out that gun control isn’t the only thing their senator’s lying about.
In the latest undercover footage, McCaskill’s staff admits that while “Planned Parenthood refuses to directly support her campaign in order to help her keep up her moderate image among pro-life Democrats, they still donate through other covert means in order to support her campaign.” In Wednesday’s video, the senator’s employees tell Project Veritas’s journalist that Planned Parenthood donates to “outside groups that funnel support to Ms. McCaskill, instead of supporting her directly.”
Nicholas Starost, a campaign staffer, explains that the country’s biggest abortion business, “go[es] through other means to get us that money.” It’s a well-orchestrated scheme, he says giddily. “It’s f***ing beautiful. It’s great when it works for us and not against us, let’s be honest.” Another McCaskill operative, Darcy Becker, chimes in. “It’s not that they don’t support Claire, it’s because they know it’s a tough state to win for a Democrat. Even some moderate Democrats are pro-life,” she explains, “and even those Republicans that are going to vote for Claire because they’re pretty moderate, she could lose them if Planned Parenthood donated money to her.” Watch the exchange for yourself below.
And that’s not all. Her staff admits that — contrary to what she tells pro-life Democrats — McCaskill is “100 percent pro-abortion.” So she’s openly lying about her position? “Yeah, I think it’s like a tactic to… try to get the moderate voters.” Now, 24 hours into this latest PR disaster, McCaskill headquarters is scrambling. In a desperate attempt to take the heat off, the senator is demanding an investigation. But into what?
Good question. On last night’s “Washington Watch,” James couldn’t believe the ridiculousness of McCaskill’s reaction. “She says we’ve committed fraud. I don’t know what that means by recording the folks. I’m committing fraud by recording what they’ve said? I think the real fraud is the bait-and-switch when the worker for her says that moderate voters are going to have to ‘get over it’ after they impeach Trump. After they do what they are not supposed to do — and what they told voters they would not do. That to me is a better example of fraud — lying to the constituents. Our cameras just recorded it.”
As if that weren’t pathetic enough, the McCaskill camp is also going after opponent (and Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley) for somehow infiltrating her office. That’s interesting, James told me, since “I’ve never met her opponent. I’ve never talked to the attorney general of Missouri… [but] she’s on defense because this video shows her staffers saying that one has to mislead moderate voters in order to get elected in a state like Missouri.”
For his part, Hawley is pushing back — and hard. “Let’s review last 24 hrs,” he tweeted. “1) @clairecmc & staff caught on tape telling the truth 2) McCaskill accuses ME of fraud 3) McCaskill demands Missouri give her special prosecutor to investigate her truth telling. Senator, accusing people of crimes is a serious thing. If you have evidence of a crime, please come forward with it immediately. Otherwise, please stop politicizing the legal process for your reelection.”
On the show last night, I asked James why he thought McCaskill and her staff would be comfortable enough to admit they’re dishonest. “Part of it is hubris… ” he explained. “Because the media doesn’t hold any of these red state Democrats accountable, a lot of these guys inside the office were quite open about the deceptions. And it wasn’t just one of them. Each and every staffer we met had a different type of deception.” Let’s face it, he said, “It didn’t take a tremendous amount of espionage for me to do this. I just had to walk in and ask questions and get responses, which is what journalists are supposed to do.”
The unmasking of McCaskill’s campaign reveals a lot more than the deception and potential violation of campaign finance laws. It shows that many in the Democrat Party realize their pro-abortion, anti-God, anti-family, and anti-gun agenda is out of step with the majority of American voters. We can’t allow that dishonesty to prevail — take the pledge to Pray — Vote — Stand!

Now we’re seeing some bias from Google Design Lead Dave Hogue. Shortly after Brett Kavanaugh won Senate approval to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court, Hogue wrote in a now-deleted Tweet, “You are finished, @GOP. You polished the final nail for your own coffins. F–K. YOU. ALL. TO. HELL.”
“I hope the last images burned into your slimy, evil, treasonous retinas are millions of women laughing and clapping and celebrating as your souls descend into the flames,” he added.
Fox News reports that Hogue deleted the Tweet and acknowledged he “should have been more eloquent and less condemning.” A Google spokesperson told Fox in an e-mail, “What employees say in their personal capacity has no bearing on the way we build or operate our products.”
We respect Google’s policies, but let’s be honest: Hogue isn’t alone in hating conservatives. He’s just one of the few to openly spew his opinions.
2ndVote consumers can fight back against Google’s corporate liberalism and dishonesty by changing search engines. DuckDuckGo prioritizes consumer privacy and is neutral on all of 2ndVote’s issue categories. And we have found Brave.com to be a similarly neutral web browser option, founded by former Mozilla executive Brendan Eich.
Google may dominate certain markets, but conservatives don’t have to take their endangering of our rights and privacy lying down. Take action. Change browsers and search engines. Show Google that if it wants your business, it has to earn it.

Update: The University of Southern Maine “barred” the professor who promoted and organized an anti-Kavanaugh pop-up course.
University of Southern Maine diversity and inclusive programming coordinator Gabriel Demaine floated the idea of offering a free credit to students who join “social justice organizations” in meeting with Republican Sen. Susan Collins.
Collins was a swing vote in the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
UPDATE: The University of Southern Maine has “barred” Dr. Susan Feiner, a now-retired USM professor, from teaching after she promoted and organized the anti-Kavanaugh “pop-up” course that offered college credit to students if they bussed to Washington, D.C. to protest Senator Susan Collins.
As reported by the Press Herald, according to a statement released Wednesday by USM President Glenn Cummings, Feiner was using the course to “advanc[e] her personal political agenda.”
“We are embarrassed by and apologize for the rogue behavior of a former colleague,” Cummings said. “In response to her inappropriate actions Dr. Susan Feiner has been notified that she is now barred from teaching at the University of Southern Maine, a prohibition that will be upheld by the other campuses of the University of Maine System as well.”
Campus Reform is awaiting further comment from USM and will post developments as warranted.

The University of Southern Maine halted a proposed pop-up course offering a free credit to students to travel to Washington, D.C. to join “social justice organizations” in meeting with Republican Sen. Susan Collins, a swing vote on the confirmation of Supreme Court justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
“This pop-up-course was hastily arranged, without the knowledge of the Provost or myself,” USM President Glenn Cummings said via a post on the Maine Republican Party Facebook page. “It was not appropriately reviewed nor went through proper channels.”
“As soon as the Provost and I were apprised of the course, we immediately pulled the one-credit offering. We also made sure that no USM monies were being used for the trip,” Cummings added.
“Students can earn 1 credit FREE for enrolling in this Pop-Up course on ‘Engaged Citizenship,’” Demaine said in the email. “The requirements of the pop-up include: busing overnight to Washington, D.C. to join activists, political action groups, and social justice organizations to meet with Sen. Collins.”
“Rally up around the FBI investigation of the Supreme Court nominee Kavanaugh,” the email added.
A survey link was included in the email which asked students to “check” off statements that applied to them. Statements included, “I am interested in civil disobedience/willing to get arrested (Bail is about $50/arrest. Please have a plan)” and “I am a survivor and willing to share my story to the public (Livestream, rally, press).”
The diversity and inclusive programming coordinator noted that the bus was scheduled to leave Portland, Maine at 9 p.m. on Wednesday and arrive in Washington, D.C. on Thursday morning. The students were scheduled to travel back to Portland on Friday morning.
“This Pop-Up Course is Tuition FREE for all matriculated USM undergrads,” Demaine noted. “Tuition fees waived at completion of course.”
Collins lambasted President Donald Trump after he imitated Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her more than 30 years ago, for her inability to remember certain details of the alleged incident.
Cummings said that university policy explicitly states that taxpayer-financed schools must be impartial with regard to religious, political, and social issues that fall outside USM’s research, education, and public service objectives.
“While I think getting student[s] involved in politics and use their freedom of speech, it is important to not use taxpayers’ dollars or student tuition to do so as there are other ways to do the same thing. If students want to say something they’ll find the way,” University of Southern Maine student Makenzie Baber told Campus Reform.
“As a college student, I’ve worked hard for ways to reduce college tuition. [A] one-credit class would be an excellent idea but not on other people’s dime. I support the University’s decision to withdraw from offering this opportunity as it an unfair use of my money and many others. While I think [sic] the faculty’s support for students to be engaged the money should’ve come from one funder or the students going on the trip,” Baber added.

This week, Trevor Loudon presents Part One of a series exposing the radical ties of Florida Gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum. Gillum, the current mayor of Tallahassee, Florida, has a long history with hard-core socialist activists.
Andrew Gillum is a threat to national security.

In 2016, New Zealand author and film-maker Trevor Loudon released his full-length documentary The Enemies Within, which exposed a shocking number of United States Senators and members of Congress who pose a security risk to America. These elected officials were all tied to hostile foreign powers, anti-American Marxist groups or fronts for the pro-terrorist Muslim Brotherhood.
Please embed these videos on your blog, tweet them to your followers, post them to Facebook, or personally email them to friends, relatives and colleagues. Every American voter needs to see these videos. If more Americans understand how badly they are being betrayed by their own elected representatives, they can help “drain the swamp” themselves, directly through the ballot box.

Some politicians will say anything to get elected — and thanks to Project Veritas, Americans are finding out exactly who those politicians are. In deep red states, where Democrats have to play moderate to win, it’s been tough for people like Senator Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) to keep their true feelings in check. It’s a tough act to maintain — too tough, new undercover videos show.
The Missouri senator, who pretends to be a friend of the Second Amendment, has quite different views behind closed doors. In the safety of her campaign offices, the woman in a neck-and-neck race with state Attorney General Josh Hawley (R) made it clear in a new undercover video that she’s just hiding her agenda for votes. In footage released this week, McCaskill and her staffers are almost giddy at the thought of tighter gun control laws, including outlawing “high capacity magazines. Turning to the senator, an undercover journalist asked her if she would support a ban, “Of course! Of course!” she insists.
But she’s not going to tell voters that, her office insists — “because that could hurt her ability to get elected.” Off the record, far-Left groups like Mom’s Demand Action know they have a friend in the senator. It’s just better to keep the relationship “hush-hush.” “She’s worked out stuff with Mom’s Demand Action to make sure that she can support their goals without supporting the organization openly,” said one of McCaskill’s staffers. And what about Barack Obama? Why isn’t he out campaigning for the senator?
“He’s a very liberal candidate. And like … Claire [is] distancing herself from the party [because it will] help her win more votes.” Nicolas Starost, who works on the McCaskill campaign, said they do everything they can to keep voters in the dark about her radical views. So she and Obama “essentially have the same views on everything?” the Project Veritas journalist asks. “Yeah,” Starost replied smiling. “People just can’t know that.”
Just like people can’t know McCaskill’s secret support for impeaching President Trump. Campaign worker Glen Winfrey says she could explain her flip-flop on the issue by telling Missourians, “Get over it. It was a national security question.” Or her private push to outlaw semi-automatic weapons. “… I think we could actually be in a position to get votes on this stuff on the floor and we’d get 60…” Of course, McCaskill’s race to the middle might convince a few people, but it’s hard to bury her actual record. She has an “F” rating from the NRA and supported President Obama’s agenda 98 percent of the time.
Now, in frantic damage control mode, she’s insisting that these Project Veritas videos are the work of challenger Josh Hawley. “It is startling that Josh Hawley would be part of fraudulently embedding somebody in my campaign. He’s the Attorney General of the state of Missouri. He’s supposed to be going after fraud, not participating in it.” Nice try, Hawley fired back. “@clairecmc & staff caught on tape deceiving Missouri voters and her response is to accuse me of fraud? For HER words? Her campaign is unraveling.” The latest numbers seem to agree. Most polls have Hawley pulling ahead of McCaskill by anywhere from two to five points.
In Tennessee, the Volunteers got a front-row seat to the split personality of Rep. Marsha Blackburn’s (R) opponent for Senate, Phil Bredesen (D). Like McCaskill, his campaign office was also caught on video spilling the beans on the Democrat’s strategy on Brett Kavanaugh. Field organizer Maria Amalla said his statement about supporting the new Supreme Court justice was a complete lie — “a political move… to make up points.” The undercover journalist says that he was “so confused because I just can’t believe he would actually vote yes [to confirm Kavanaugh.]” Oh, Bredesen’s staffer says, “He wouldn’t. He’s just saying he would.” Don’t worry, a worker named Will Stewart says, “Between you and me, once Phil actually gets into the Senate, he’ll be a good Democrat.” Does that mean he’s not a fan of Trump, the mole asks? “…Oh yeah. Oh, he hates Trump, like yeah…” “Are the people of Tennessee that ignorant?” “Yeah,” Stewart replies.
Now, like McCaskill’s campaign, the Bredesen camp is scrambling to explain the footage away. That’ll be tough to do, insiders think. In the handful of days since singer Taylor Swift trashed Blackburn’s views and the tape was released, Marsha has managed to turn her single-digit lead into a double-digit advantage. “This is exactly the kind of ‘say whatever to get elected’ politics Tennesseans hate,” Blackburn’s campaign told reporters. “Marsha always says you ‘may not always agree with me, but you will always know where I stand.'”

A Pocahontas descendent is calling on Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., to apologize for claiming Native American heritage.
Debbie White Dove Porreco, who says she is a descendant of the 17th-century Native American Pocahontas famous for allegedly saving the life of Englishman John Smith, appeared on Fox News Tuesday and called on Warren to “come back and apologize to everybody for what she’s done.”
The interview came a day after the Democratic senator released the results of a DNA test that “strongly support the existence of an unadmixed Native American ancestor in the individual’s pedigree, likely in the range of 6-10 generations ago,” according to Carlos D. Bustamante, a professor at Stanford University, and the author of the report Warren released on her DNA results.
On “Tucker Carlson Tonight” Tuesday, Porreco noted that while she was “glad” Warren took a DNA test, “It did prove that she isn’t the Cherokee Indian that she’s been claiming to be for so long.”
Porreco, a member of Trumpettes USA, had also appeared on Carlson’s show in May and called on Warren to take a DNA test to prove her Native American heritage.
After becoming a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, Warren had the university change her listed ethnicity from “white” to “Native American,” according to Vox.
While teaching at Harvard Law School, Warren was featured by Harvard University as proof of expanding faculty diversity. The Crimson, the student newspaper at Harvard, even referred to Warren as “the first woman with a minority background to be tenured,” the Boston Herald reported in 2012.
On Fox, Porreco said she felt “betrayed” by Warren’s claims, and said others in the Native American community “feel disappointed.”
In a rare move, the Cherokee Nation released a statement on Warren’s DNA test and labeled Warren’s use of the test to claim Cherokee heritage as “inappropriate and wrong.”
“A DNA test is useless to determine tribal citizenship,” Cherokee Nation Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin Jr. said in a statement. “Current DNA tests do not even distinguish whether a person’s ancestors were indigenous to North or South America.”
Hoskin continued:
Sovereign tribal nations set their own legal requirements for citizenship, and while DNA tests can be used to determine lineage, such as paternity to an individual, it is not evidence for tribal affiliation. Using a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation, even vaguely, is inappropriate and wrong. It makes a mockery out of DNA tests and its legitimate uses while also dishonoring legitimate tribal governments and their citizens, whose ancestors are well documented and whose heritage is proven. Sen. Warren is undermining tribal interests with her continued claims of tribal heritage.
Daniel Horowitz at Conservative Reviewlays it out for us. President Trump already has all the power he needs to close our borders.
Presumably inspired by all the news about a now 4,000-strong migrant caravan heading toward Mexico with the apparent aim to assault our southern border (see my post yesterday), Horowitz says this (emphasis is mine):
President Trump has full constitutional power to stop the border invasion – even without Congress
Just as President Reagan is remembered for ending the Cold War, President Trump can be remembered as the one who ended the war on our sovereignty. Will he rise to the occasion?
Here’s the stone-cold truth about our border: We could construct a border wall as high as the stratosphere, and it won’t help much if we continue our self-destructing policies of allowing bogus asylees to come through our front door and legitimizing the opinions of sanctuary judges who “make denizens of aliens.”
President Trump publicly warned the governments of Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala that if they don’t take steps to stop the latest caravan of bogus asylum invaders, he will cut off aid to the countries. While this is a good first step, it won’t deter the invasion unless we stop admitting the invaders and implementing catch-and-release under orders from illegitimate court rulings, as we did with the previous caravan and countless tens of thousands of others coming in with less pomp. And that would hold true even with a border wall. They just come to our points of entry, surrender themselves, get released into our communities, and never show up to their hearings until and unless they wind up committing crimes.
Moreover, the caravan is already in Guatemala and headed for Mexico. Thus, the Honduran diplomacy is moot at this point. And this is much bigger than one caravan. We must first dissect what is actually happening at our border.
This is nothing short of an invasion
Earlier this week, KTAR news in Phoenix, Arizona, sat down with ICE’s Phoenix field director, Henry Lucero. What he revealed should disturb all of us:
Thus, it all boils down to bogus asylum and catch-and-release. Either Trump ends those, or everything else is just talk. While Trump is right to ask Congress to step in, we’ve noted before that our statute is already clear that these people do not qualify as asylees and that the unaccompanied teenagers do not qualify as refugees.
With this background in mind, it’s easy to understand why Lindsey Grahmanesty’s idea of trading amnesty for a border wall is so counterintuitive. We only have this border invasion because of the magnet of amnesty, and the magnet of amnesty allows them to come to the entry points, demand asylum, sue for rights, and never get deported. A wall only helps a country that has a strong spirit but a weak frontier; it doesn’t help a weak political system that willingly commits national suicide.
Anyone who tells you that the president doesn’t have the authority to exclude anyone for any reason doesn’t deserve to live in a sovereign nation.
Sovereignty trumps everything. There is nothing in our statutes that forces the president to admit anyone he feels is a problem. In fact, as we’ve noted before, he has inherent executive powers from Article II, as well as delegated authority from Congress under existing law, to stop taking in immigrants at the border or through visas for as much time as he deems necessary.
There is much more hereas Horowitz lays out the case.
