Department of Justice Files Suit Against “AMERICAN MUSLIMS FOR PALESTINE”

Next, Hamas-tied CAIR. These Islamic terror-tied groups have been operating and exploiting our constitutional American freedoms to undermine and sabotage our very way of life.

The group long accused of carrying Hamas’s message on U.S. soil is now officially facing federal and state legal action.

US Federal officials have sued pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel demonstrators involved in a heated protest outside a New Jersey synagogue last year.

Here’s what’s happening:

  • Federal Lawsuit (New Jersey): DOJ accuses AMP of intimidating Jewish worshippers during synagogue events.
  • Virginia Investigation: State Attorney General finds AMP in contempt of court after it refused to turn over fundraising and financial records—linked to possible support for terrorist organizations.
  • Potential Criminal Exposure: If AMP keeps stonewalling, Virginia can detain its executives.
  • Background: AMP’s leaders previously worked for Hamas-linked groups like the Holy Land Foundation and Islamic Association for Palestine—both shut down or convicted for terror financing.

This isn’t just another “campus activist” network.

It’s the same infrastructure that once funneled money and propaganda for Hamas — reborn under a new name.

Federal pressure is finally catching up.

Here’s the report: REVISED_American Muslims for Palestine faces new legal challenges

Over the last few days, there have been several important legal developments related to American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), with severe challenges brought against it both at the federal and state level. The controversial organization presents itself as focused on education and advocacy within the Muslim community but has been under the spotlight since the October 7, 2023 attacks in Israel for its pro-Hamas rhetoric and its role in protests and rallies nationwide. The measures, adopted respectively by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Circuit Court of the City of Richmond, are just the latest of a series of legal challenges facing AMP over the last two years.

Pro-Palestinian group sued under FACE Act for synagogue riot

By: Christina Grube, World:

Prosecutors filed a federal lawsuit under the FACE Act on Monday, accusing advocacy groups and private citizens of targeting and intimidating Jewish congregants at a New Jersey synagogue. Chapters of the National Party for Socialism and Liberation, along with American Muslims for Palestine, mounted a protest that turned violent outside a rabbi’s memorial service in November 2024, according to the Department of Justice. Federal prosecutors alleged that both advocacy groups had a history of organizing and participating in violent demonstrations against Jewish groups.

The defendants are presumed legally innocent until proven guilty in court. As of noon Tuesday, neither of the protesters’ two parent organizations had addressed the lawsuit’s claims on their social media channels.

Protesters intentionally used threats of force, intimidation, and violence to interrupt the free exercise of congregants of the Ohr Torah synagogue in West Orange, N.J., about 20 minutes outside of Newark, according to federal authorities. No American should be harassed or targeted for peacefully practicing their religion, Attorney General Pam Bondi said. This lawsuit underscored the DOJ’s commitment to defending Jewish Americans’ right to worship, she added. The FACE Act prohibits blocking entrance to houses of worship, abortion centers, pregnancy centers, or other facilities offering so-called reproductive services. The Biden administration notably used the federal statute to prosecute pro-life activists.

What exactly happened, allegedly? Ohr Torah congregants planned to hold a religious event in November 2024 honoring the life of the late Rabbi Avi Goldberg. The memorial included a time of prayer with Biblical verses and a Torah sermon and prayerful dancing, according to the court filing. The event also included educational activities about the religious obligation to live in Israel, a real estate fair, and a festive barbecue in the synagogue’s parking lot.

Congregant Moche Glick contacted local law enforcement with concerns over worshipper safety after American Muslims for Palestine and National Party for Socialism and Liberation members planned to protest at the event. Group members sent a threatening letter to Glick’s private home near the synagogue days before the planned event, the court filing noted.

About 50 protesters gathered near Glick’s home on the day of the synagogue’s event, wearing masks and carrying thin, long horns. The horns, known as vuvuzelas, are capable of causing noise-induced hearing loss because of their volume and are commonly banned from sporting events due to their ability to be weaponized, according to the court filing.

The protesters marched to the synagogue after gathering outside Glick’s home, and gathered behind a preemptive defensive line formed by law enforcement outside the synagogue grounds. Police told protesters to turn back or cross the street, but protesters refused, according to court documents. The group evolved into a mob and broke the police line, causing officers to scatter, the filing alleged. Protesters spread across the synagogue’s lawn and disrupted the service with shouting and horns—a scene captured on video.

Court documents alleged that two protesters specifically targeted Glick and assaulted him with a vuvuzela, while another protester started charging towards Glick. A fellow worshipper, David Silberberg, came to Glick’s defense by pepper-spraying the charging protester. The pepper-sprayed protester fell back, but started attacking Silberberg after regaining his composure. The protester grabbed the 65-year-old man with both hands and put him in a neck hold, according to court documents. The protester dragged Silberberg down a hill toward the synagogue’s parking lot, with several other protesters following behind, prosecutors alleged. Several other worshippers, including Glick, chased after and got Silberberg out of the chokehold by hitting the offending protester on the head with a flashlight. The filing included images of the attack taken from bystander video footage.

How does the FACE Act apply in a non-abortion case? The Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, or the FACE Act, is a Clinton-era statute that makes it a federal offense to block or hinder access to what the law considers reproductive services, which include abortion procedures. While the measure was commonly weaponized against peaceful pro-life protesters, the statute also provides the same accessibility protections to pro-life clinics and synagogues. Federal prosecutors argue that the New Jersey protesters can be federally charged under the act since they hindered Jewish congregants from worshipping.

Lawsuit filed on behalf of American and Israeli Victims of Hamas Oct. 7th Terrorist Attack Against AJP Educational Foundation, Inc. a/k/a American Muslims for Palestine and National Students for Justice in Palestine

NEW YORK, NY – Representing a group of victims of the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas terror attack on Israel, global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP, the National Jewish Advocacy Center, the Schoen Law Firm, and the Holtzman Vogel law firm have filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern Division of Virginia, Alexandria Division, against AJP Educational Foundation Inc. a/k/a American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) and National Students for Justice in Palestine (NSJP).

The lawsuit, which seeks compensatory damages for nine American and Israeli victims of the attack in which Hamas killed 1,200 people and took 240 people hostage, alleges that AMP and NSJP work in the United States as collaborators and propagandists for Hamas. Hamas is a United States designated Foreign Terrorist Organization. The suit also notes that AMP and NSJP are merely the current version of several prior entities that were already determined by the U.S. government to be supporters of Hamas.

“I couldn’t be prouder of our firm for taking on this important representation. It is an honor to lend our voice and resources to this fight in support of plaintiffs who have suffered greatly at the hands of terrorists,” said Richard A. Rosenbaum, Executive Chairman of Greenberg Traurig. “We have assembled a formidable team who will make certain that the strong evidence showing the defendants have violated the rule of law is presented in an American courtroom. Our team will work tirelessly to hold these organizations accountable for their actions carried out in concert with terrorists.”

The suit alleges AMP and NSJP responded on Oct. 8, 2023, the day after the horrific atrocities perpetrated by Hamas, by participating in the terrorist’s propaganda to justify its appalling brutalities. AMP and NSJP answered Hamas’s “call for mass mobilization” by disseminating a manifesto and plan of attack. This manifesto confirms that “AMP and NSJP are not merely organizing to assist Hamas’s ongoing terror campaign abroad—they are intentionally extending their aid to fomenting chaos, violence, and terror in the United States.” In this manner, the groups acted to support and further the goals and directives of Hamas.

Further, the lawsuit states that “Plaintiffs—survivors of Hamas’s October 7 terrorist attack, family members of those murdered by Hamas, civilians still under fire from Hamas’s ongoing terrorism, and persons displaced by Hamas’s ongoing terrorism—have been, and continue to be, injured because AMP and NSJP knowingly provide continuous, systematic, and substantial assistance to Hamas and its affiliates’ acts of international terrorism. AMP and NSJP are thus liable to Plaintiffs for the damages they incurred because AMP and NSJP aid and abet Hamas’s terrorism.”

“Since Oct. 7, our country has witnessed a shocking rise in anti-Semitism, verbal and physical threats against Jews on our campuses and in our streets, vandalism, blockades, economic disruption, illegal encampments, and hostile takeovers of academic buildings—largely and concertedly directed by Hamas and its collaborators, American Muslims for Palestine and National Students for Justice in Palestine. Until now, they have seemingly operated in a world without consequence. With this lawsuit, we will hold Hamas’s collaborators accountable for their actions and show them and those in sympathy with them that no one is above, or beyond, the rule of law. As the son of one of the youngest survivors of Auschwitz, I am proud to be part of the team seeking vindication for our clients. We look forward to presenting the evidence to the judge and jury,” said Scott J. Bornstein, Senior Vice President of Greenberg Traurig.

Richard A. Edlin, Vice Chair of Greenberg Traurig, notes: “It is deeply ironic that the same people carrying signs saying ‘Death to America’ and ‘Death to Jews’ claim they are protected by free speech. They are not. Free speech has never included the active support of terrorism, and it has never protected the destruction of private property or the brutalization of innocent men, women, and children of many faiths, not just Jews. In the defendants, we confront an American problem, as well as a Jewish problem. We cannot—and through this lawsuit, we are saying we will not—allow the infiltration of Hamas-directed hatred, violence, and intimidation anywhere we can prevent it. If the defendants believe they can set up operations in America to create a mass culture of fear, threats, violence, and intimidation to undermine our cherished educational institutions, affect our governmental policies, and force Hamas’s evil ideology on American or Israeli soil, they are about to find out how mistaken they are.”

“As a lawyer with a long history of fighting antisemitism, I am proud to sign my name to this important lawsuit,” said Brad Kaufman, Co-President of Greenberg Traurig.

According to Mark Goldfeder, the CEO and director of the National Jewish Advocacy Center, “This case is very simple: When someone tells you they are aiding and abetting terrorists—believe them.”

Jason Torchinsky, a partner at Holtzman Vogel who also represents the victims, emphasized that “[t]he chaos we are seeing at American colleges and universities has been well planned and organized, and National SJP’s work to support the end goals of Hamas needs to be exposed and stopped. We hope this lawsuit sees justice for our clients.”

The group of American and Israeli victims have experienced a wide spectrum of physical and emotional injuries.

“It is time that Hamas and all of its agents, like AMP and NSJP, be held responsible for their horrific actions,” the victims said in a joint statement. “We want to go on record to expose these groups for the terrorists they are and make certain that they are stopped from operating in the United States and other countries they infiltrate.”

Professor Anat Alon-Beck’s decision to join the lawsuit was motivated by personal experiences of harassment as an Israeli American corporate law professor. She wants to prevent this from happening to others on campuses. She is concerned about the alarming rise in antisemitism, demonization, delegitimization and dehumanization of Israel and the United States.

American Muslims for Palestine Director: A ‘Jewish Person or Christian Zionist’ is ‘Enemy Number One’

AMP’s co-founder also created Students for Justice in Palestine.

The Biden administration was forced to condemn CAIR after its boss, Nihad Awad, who had a history of supporting Hamas, attended the American Muslims for Palestine conference and bragged about how happy he was about the Oct 7 attacks.

Awad claims that his remarks were taken “out of context.”

Now here’s Taher Herzallah, Outreach and Grassroots Organizing Director for AMP, talking about how Jewish people are the enemy. “Anybody who has any relationship or any support or identifies himself as a Jewish person or as a Christian Zionist then we shall not be their friend, I will tell you they are enemy number one and our community needs to recognize that.”

I’m guessing this one will also be described as “taken out of context.”

The AMP conference included Awad, Herzallah, and Hatem Bazian, the co-founder of Students for Justice in Palestine, as well as AMP, who pretty much single-handedly made antisemitism the norm on college campuses.

Also present were Lena Masri, CAIR’s Civil Rights Director, and Fatima Mohammed: whose deranged CUNY Law grad speech went viral.

See if you can spot the pattern here.

Taher Herzallah is just quoting the Koran.

“O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for friends. They are friends with one another. He among you who taketh them for friends is one of them. Lo! Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk.” (Koran 5:51)

So this hatred of Jews or Christians didn’t emerge on Oct 7 or 1967, 1948 or during any recent period. It was always there. It’s just more out in the open now.
