How Nancy Pelosi’s husband made them $17 million in one year

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has made millions from her stock market investments, including from companies she helps regulate.

Her wealth grew by an estimated $16.7 million in 2020, trading over $50million in assets and generating an annualized return of 69 percent that beat legendary investors like Warren Buffet and George Soros, according to Congressional disclosures.

Many of her outsized gains came from bets on big tech stocks like Google, Amazon and Apple – while DC insiders have accused the House Speaker of dragging her feet on reforms to rein in Silicon Valley.

Her Wall Street plays are handled by her husband, Paul Pelosi Sr., who runs investment firm Financial Leasing Services.

His well-timed bets included buying 4,000 shares of Google parent company Alphabet just before a House Judiciary Committee vote on antitrust regulations for Silicon Valley monopolies. The investment earned the Pelosis $5.3 million.

The couple’s fortune is worth an estimated $100million, making Nancy one of the richest members of Congress.

Prominent fellow Democrats Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez and Elizabeth Warren have called for members of Congress to be barred from investing on Wall Street.

‘The access and influence we have should be exercised for the public interest, not our profit. It shouldn’t be legal for us to trade individual stock with the info we have,’ Ocasio-Cortez tweeted last month.

Nancy Pelosi told a reporter in December that she believed she and her colleagues ‘should be able to participate’ in trading because ‘we’re a free-market economy’, and denied any conflict of interest.

Reliance on tech stocks led the Pelosis to underperform in 2021, trailing the S&P500 by 15.5 percent, according to FinePrint.

But sources close to the Democrat power broker’s son – and even Pelosi Jr. himself – admit that some of his business dealings may have arisen from savvy entrepreneurs hiring him in an attempt to curry favor with his powerful family.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is unlikely to be comfortable with the string of convicted criminals and subjects of federal probes DailyMail.com has uncovered as her son’s business partners.

But despite all of his associations with criminals and alleged fraudsters, the powerful politician’s son has never been charged himself – and has tried to cultivate a squeaky-clean, green image.

Back in 2007, Pelosi Jr. was dubbed the ‘rising prince’ of the Pelosi political dynasty in a Men’s Vogue profile.

His mother, Nancy Pelosi, herself the child of a Maryland Democratic Congressman and Baltimore Mayor, had just ascended to Speaker of the House of Representatives. His father was a successful investor, and his cousin, current California Governor Gavin Newsom, was the mayor of San Francisco.

But Pelosi Jr. told the magazine he lived a spartan life, eating a six-egg omelet for breakfast, never turning on the heat or AC in his San Francisco apartment, taking care to not wash his clothes during peak energy consumption hours, and only using his old smart car – a hand-me-down from his parents – when the city’s electric bus wasn’t an option.

Though frugal, Pelosi Jr. certainly wasn’t strapped for cash in February 2007, he had just landed a $180,000 job as Senior Vice President at data company InfoUSA, despite already holding a full-time position as a home loan officer at Countrywide Home Loans in San Mateo and having no experience in database marketing.

The company was run by major Democrat donor Vinod Gupta, who had been embroiled in a criminal investigation by the Iowa Attorney General’s Office since 2004.

Investigators claimed that between 2001 and 2004 InfoUSA knowingly sold millions of consumers’ data to fraudsters who used the information to scam the elderly, stripping some of their life savings.

According to a 2007 New York Times report on the investigation, InfoUSA sold a list of 500,000 gamblers over age 55 called ‘Oldies but Goodies’, which described its members as ‘gullible’.

InfoUSA also sold lists of people with cancer or Alzheimer’s called ‘Suffering Seniors’, the Times reported. The data company denied their lists had such titles.

Iowa investigators found emails showing InfoUSA staff knew the firms they were selling to were being investigated for fraudulently targeting old people, but continued to sell the data regardless, the state’s AG said.

Gupta and InfoUSA cooperated with the Iowa investigation into the scammers and were not charged. The investigation was closed before Pelosi Jr. joined the company.

After the investigation was closed, the company said it had changed its practices, and that it ‘never characterized individuals on lists as ‘gullible.’ Nor does infoUSA compile lists entitled ‘Elderly Opportunity Seekers,’ ‘Suffering Seniors,’ or ‘Oldies But Goodies.’

Some believed Gupta appointed Pelosi Jr. to curry favor with his powerful mother, though Pelosi Jr. denied it at the time.

‘I don’t think that’s really what happens,’ he told news site NewsMax in 2007. ‘I don’t see it that way, but I could see why you’d ask the question… I guess you always wonder why somebody hires you, right?’

CARES Act Coronavirus Relief Went to CAIR, Bail Fund for Criminals

The text of the CARES Act states that it was implemented to “provide emergency assistance and health care response for individuals, families, and businesses affected by the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.”

As Jason Rantz documents, Washington illegally imposed a racial test on recipients. Federal aid should really be conditioned on non-discriminatory application.

…to qualify to the Washington Equity Relief Fund, a group of “reviewers” made sure the nonprofits were “led by and serving Black, Indigenous and people of color.”…

A group of over 100 peer reviewers discussed and scored applications before doling out funding, in collaboration with the Department of Commerce.

The reviewers were “prioritized” on the basis of their race. About 95% identified as a racial minority and 77% experienced poverty. Ironically, the Department of Commerce had the reviewers, who were excluding nonprofits run by white people due to perceived privilege, go through compulsory “anti-bias” training.

Consider all of this to essentially be funding for Democrat organizers and campaign operations at taxpayer expense. That’s the case with much of the “community” non-profit sector that’s funded by city, state and federal funds.

But it gets worse.

Collective Justice, part of the Public Defenders Association, is a partisan, social justice group. It actively lobbies light-on-crime policies and is now being propped up by federal tax dollars.

The nonprofit is currently asking supporters to back a Democrat-sponsored bill forcing courts to ignore the juvenile crimes of adult defendants in sentencing. It received $25,000 in federal tax dollars through the state.

Also receiving funds: the Council on Islamic American Relations of Washington (CAIR-WA). It frequently engages in partisan political activism and has fundraised locally for anti-Semitic congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN).

The Bail Project Spokane received $50,000 from the fund. The nonprofit is part of the national group, which opposes cash bail. It has been responsible for paying the bail for criminals who commit high-profile crimes after release.

The more money the government spends, the worse things get. That’s a solid rule. And the coronavirus turned into a pretext for funding some of the worst of the worst. This is not how politicians sold the CARES Act, but it’s how Democrats implemented it.

Criminals are Now Destroying our Country

When historical monuments and buildings are vandalized; when citizens are killed and injured by various groups of criminals in the big cities of the country; and when one Party in the parliament is behind all of that, promising to defund the police, Vladimir Lenin called the predicament—a “revolutionary situation”. He was right—the 1917 Socialist Revolution in Russia followed that exact predicament very quickly. If you know modern history and its tragic result, the entire world has endured since—as Socialist regimes forcefully implemented Socialist mantra globally…

You witnessing a Socialist Revolution in America in your midst. Yes, that revolution is taking place now! We cannot remain complacent as our historical monuments are being demolished, with looting and arson in the streets of big cities bringing billions in damages. It is all about power over your life, to take away your freedom, your guns, and your lives if you do not bend the knee to their demands. The events at Lafayette square is a repetition of an earlier attempt to take over the White House in June 1, 2020, like the Winter Palace had been taken in 1917 Russia by the mob. The Democrats have placed themselves in the pockets of the looters and other criminals who create the “revolutionary situation” in America—it is insurrection, if not treason…

Lately, I deliberately introduced you to the term Socialist Charlatans, they are manufacturing Socialist Revolution in America. The entire leadership of the Democrat Party consists of the Progressive’s Socialist Charlatans using the methods and tactics of Russian Security apparatus. In writing about them, I use the term KGB. There are variety of gradations of Socialist Charlatans acting throughout the midst of the society to destroy our way of life: they occupied all strata of our society inculcating Americans in their fraudulent ideology, instigating violence. They are no longer small groups of infiltrators. No, they are now presenting themselves in large numbers. You are watching today an accumulation of the access of inculcation by the evil mindsets of Marxism, Socialism, and Communism in America…

Putin’s KGB within America’s Midst

Several months ago, I warned you that Antifa and “Black Lives Matter” are the product of the KGB and trained by them. The leader of the group has admitted: Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors said in a newly surfaced video from 2015 that she and her fellow organizers are “trained Marxists.” … BLM leader proclaimed: If change doesn’t happen, ‘we will burn down this system…’ Do you remember the International used by the Bolsheviks in Socialist Revolution in Russia? The words of the BLM leader are equal to words from the International: “We will destroy old world and build a new…” In fact, that ideology destroyed the USSR—the country collapsed economically in 1991 and the criminal agency the KGB took over…

A 2015 video clip has surfaced of an interview with Black Lives Matter founder Patrisse Cullors in which she assures her interviewer that the group has an underlying ideology, saying, “We’re trained Marxists.” Responding to the interviewer’s concern that the BLM movement might not have enough of a “clear ideological structure,” Cullors responded by saying that she and another co-founder “in particular” are dedicated to the ideology of Communist leader Karl Marx: “We actually do have an ideological frame. Myself and Alicia in particular, we’re trained organizers. We are trained Marxists. We are super versed on ideological theories.”

When another leader of BLM Hawk Newsome promises to burn the system and replace it with the new one, it is the real threat of counter-revolutionary forces, an insurrection to destroy the system designed and established by our Founding Fathers. A recent interview of the acting FBI Director shows that he is still not aware of the destructive forces that ideology stands for:

“We have certainly seen in the past a variety of foreign adversaries looking to amplify controversy in this country,” Wray said. “And they use state media. They use social media. Some of that is through propaganda, some of that’s through disinformation, some of that’s through just fake information. This interview testifies to my two points, just look at the words which characterize the adversary’s activities: propaganda, disinformation, fake information, and protests—all of that are typical goings-on of the arsenal of KGB tactics. In addition to that China now joined the KGB. When the FBI Director doesn’t know history—History repeats itself. In order to save the American Constitutional Republic it is vitally to know the enemy and the enemy No. 1 is the current Democrat Party– a criminal cabal of Progressives’ Socialist Charlatans. Let me prove it.

 A Criminal Cabal of ‘Progressives’ – Socialist Charlatans

The infiltration into American society by the KGB’ forces began many decades ago. I’ll give you two examples to identify the time the infiltration began. The Windy City, Chicago, is currently a war zone, people are killing each other every day there for decades. Don’t be surprised a killing field in Chicago. I know one of the leaders in Chicago who is responsible for the killing—Rahm Emanuel, the Mayor of Chicago. I knew him when he was in Israel. He had a friendly relation with Yasser Arafat. To my knowledge the latter was recruited by the KGB in 1957—friendship with Arafat speaks for itself—Arafat initiated a war in the Middle East, it is still going on. Yes, we are at war waged against Western civilization and American capitalism by the KGB and the forces of Marxism, Socialism, and Communism. The destruction of America is planned by our adversaries and the criminal cabal of the ‘Progressives’ Socialist Charlatans of the Democrat Party have been implementing it in America for many decades. If you read my books or columns you know that my work in the legal community of the USSR coincides with the tenue of the KGB Chairman Yuri Andropov. I knew him pretty well. It was Andropov’s idea to invent a “control opposition.” The KGB had practiced it in Russia for many years. It is very simple to achieve, just infiltrate the opposition with a couple of people, promote them to the leadership and program them to act in a way beneficial to you. That exact move to create White Nationalism was realized and implanted by the KGB in America. The result you saw in August 2017, in so-called Unite the Right, the violent white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Nazi slogans and violence at the march were manufactured in the best traditions of the KGB.  The BBC commented the following: “Aug 13, 2017 – The deadly violence on the streets of Charlottesville, Virginia, comes at a time of a dramatic rise in prominence of far-right movements in the US. The election of Donald Trump to the White House has been cited as a factor in the re-energizing of activists …”

It was clear to me that the entire event of violent white-supremacy was manufactured by the anti-Trump “criminal cabal” run by the Clinton/KGB mafia. Terry McAuliffe was governor of Virginia and his deal with McCabe is known in its monetary aspect. Yet, it was more than only that—McAuliffe was a Clinton long-term lieutenant.  This event is also known to the McAuliffe’s staff— staff involvement was needed, as the preparations to organize a “control opposition” takes time. For your information—this exact staff is working now under the new Governor of Virginia. Don’t be surprised by what is going on in Virginia 2020—people feel undefended and neglected there. If the case investigated professionally by DOJ, we can find McCabe in a link in a long chain of criminal activities within the Democrat Party.

I’ve been writing about Terry McAuliffe for many years. He was a prominent member of Clinton’s mafia, Socialist Charlatan, inculcating and corrupting everybody around in the State of Virginia for many years. Today, I saw him acting and speaking like a typical mafia apparatchik, lying, cheating, always harming the American interests, as designed by Andropov. A year ago, I reacted on the same protest in Charlottesville, writing the column, describing how it was orchestrated and enflamed by the members of the Clinton mafia, Terry McAuliffe, Governor of the state in cahoots with Andrew McCabe. I knew well the members of Clinton’s mafia and their cooperation with the KGB. While President Trump was signing an American spending bill for 1.3 trillion for the year 2017; I would say that half of the money was caused by the KGB’ criminal activities in cahoots with Socialist Charlatans. What a spectacular failure of our Intel!

Don’t be surprised by the media in America, it was recreated by the first American Manchurian President, including making the KGB’s political operative George Stephanopoulos a journalist. Today there are hundreds of them, poisoning America’s minds. Guard your minds America! Propaganda is insidious, deceiving you into believing its narrative. The anti-Trump crusade was begun by Russia and the KGB’s production of the Trump/Dossier under the second American Manchurian President, who was giving Aid and Comfort to the enemy. All of that was done to cover-up the crime committed by them—a real collusion, collaboration with the enemy for decades. This is the tide of the times. The second American Manchurian President doubled the infiltration of the ideology. Even further infiltrating the American Congress by the “Squad.” You saw the events pertaining to Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib. They are using our freedom and liberty to subvert both, talking about White Nationalism as a threat to humanity. Just listening to their statements will convince you who you are dealing with—they are agitators advocating both Islamism and Marxism/Socialism to fight Capitalism. For your information the KGB feels free acting through them to take action in America and manufacturing another narrative to fight Capitalism, aiming at President Trump—now it is the White Supremacists.

President Trump is right: “White nationalism is not a rising threat to humanity.” Marxism/Socialism continues its threat to humanity! It is threatening the entire world as it has been spread by the KGB globally and especially to our country. Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch, is also right. It was: “Attack on our Republic….spying, coup, sedition, impeachment, ballot harvesting, open borders, looting, Antifastan secession and open, violent insurrection…”

Left Forum 2016 Speaker: ‘There are among refugees also terrorists, rapists, criminals…but so what?’

The Leftist crowd was angry not at his insouciance over civilizational suicide, but over his “xenophobic” characterizations. That there are “terrorists, rapists, criminals” among the refugees and migrants is an obvious and abundantly documented fact, but for all too many people nowadays, it is morally wrong to state inconvenient facts.

Slavoj Žižek, “the most dangerous philosopher in the West,” stirred the melting pot Sunday as the closing speaker at Left Forum 2016 in New York City, making controversial comments about the refugee crisis.

The Slovenian academic was heckled during his epic three-and-a-half hour session at the conference titled ‘Rage, Rebellion, Revolution: Organizing our power’ held at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice and streamed live throughout the weekend on RT.com.

Žižek was already labeled a “racist,”“antisemite,” and “misogynist” before he hit the stage, which perhaps is why he started his speech by saying, “If you want to start exchanging insults, I can be extremely brutal, I always win. But, let’s not do it today, maybe.”

That truce with his friend and critics on the left was temporary, after his subsequent words ignited a firestorm that continued to burn on social media Monday.

“The obvious threat, that there are among refugees also terrorists, rapists, criminals, I mean this in a totally neutral way, of course there are but so what?” he said, when discussing reasons behind the “catastrophe” in Europe.

While a more conservative or mainstream audience might have been shocked by his blasé “so what?” attitude towards what they perceive to be a global threat, his comments seemed to ‘trigger’ something else in this left-wing crowd, angry over what they interpreted as “xenophobic” characterizations….

VIDEO: How to Stop Violent Crime

In a strongly worded five-minute video, National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre is calling on Barack Obama and other politicians to help stop violent crime by focusing on prosecuting violent criminals—not further restricting law-abiding gun owners.

“We’ve lived through the Clinton administration’s utter lack of federal gun prosecutions, and the Obama administration is following suit, while the country suffers,” LaPierre said. “And we know that a second Clinton administration will just mean more of the same.”

LaPierre added that gun-banners—whether politicians or media—won’t silence the men and women of the NRA.

“No organization has been louder, clearer or more consistent on the urgent need to enforce the federal gun laws than the NRA,” he said. “And in the face of mounting political and media pressure to demean, shame and silence us … we will fight.”

police gusnNumerous studies conducted by academic researchers and by the federal government have shown that criminals do not use legal markets to obtain guns. And now we have more evidence of this reality, this time looking at criminals in Chicago.

Philip J. Cook, Susan T. Parker, and Harold A. Pollack conducted interviews with criminals being held in the Cook County Jail.  Their primary findings were that criminals get guns from their “social network,” i.e. friends and persons known to them, but generally not from the various legal sources available to them.

They do not buy guns in gun stores.  They do not get guns at gun shows. They do not buy them from Internet sources.  The study even found that criminals only rarely steal guns.

Cook and colleagues also found that criminals do not often buy guns on the used market, as they have a fear of buying a gun from a source they do not know.  Fear of police stings, or from being turned in by law-abiding gun owners leads them to obtain guns from sources they trust, most often, family, fellow gang members, and other criminals. They also found that criminals do not hold guns for a long period, fearing that a gun could be traced to a specific crime.

The findings were clear.  Criminals do not engage in activities that would make them subject to any sort of a “universal” background check requirement or any of the other common proposals put forth by the anti-gun crowd.  As usual, this study illustrates that laws and regulations only impact the law-abiding.

So what did these findings lead the researchers to conclude?  If you thought the “obvious,” you’d be disappointed.

They concluded that since criminals do not hold guns long, “disrupting” the supply chain would have a positive effect on criminal gun use. That seems like a safe conclusion driven more by common sense than any evidence from an expensive academic study.  But how this “disruption” can be achieved is not spelled out or suggested.

Of course, the authors refuse to offer the obvious conclusion many will draw from their results: expanding background checks would have no impact on the criminal acquisition of guns.  Since these criminals do not use gun stores, gun shows, or even legal private gun sellers, there is no point in the criminal supply chain where a background check would make any difference whatsoever.

But these researchers could not admit that glaring reality.

Instead of admitting that their own research argues against the primary goal of the anti-gun movement right now — expanded “universal” background checks — the authors reveal their pre-established bias.

What is the Point?

Recently someone asked me a very insightful question.  Since black Americans are always complaining about and committing dastardly acts, because of real or imagined problems, how is it that they have become what they have complained about?  When I was viewing the ongoing criminal activity of burning, looting and physical violence against reporters who were simply doing their job I became quite angry.  It did not matter to me what the angry black men and women were upset about.  The brutal demonstrators threw rocks at police cars and set fires to businesses, including liquor stores they raided.  Of course they consumed fire water and had a jolly good time giving the ultimate display of how uncivilized people can be.  The massive void of common decency and wisdom among the population of criminals was jaw dropping.

I could not help but think about the almost comical irony concerning the Baltimore rioters.  On one hand they were cursing capitalism and expressing the need for more jobs. Then preceding to confirm how stupid they are as they commenced to burn businesses up that had been a source of jobs.  But the truth is, whether it’s the bully thugs of Baltimore, the Debbie downers of Detroit, the shysters of Chicago or the complainers in Cleveland, there is one common denominator.  That is a dangerous philosophical base which includes hatred for America, capitalism, virtue, civility, liberty and self- reliance.

For decades, the liberal controllers of government schools have systematically and purposely indoctrinated generations of young Americans, particularly blacks against almost anything that is good and mentally stimulating.

Then there is the government of Baltimore, starting with its progressive mayor who was concerned about giving people the space to destroy and almost lost the whole city to destructive cretins. Her wrong decisions allowed thugs to gain so much ground that the Baltimore Orioles had to play their opponents in an empty stadium. In my opinion that was not a good decision. They should have used the force necessary to shut down the efforts of those who were using the death of one individual as an excuse to destroy the city.

The free speech of looters, fire starters and those assaulting police officers should not have been of any concern to anybody including the media.  Simply because they were obstructing the rights of business owners, people in general and even the police who according to their job description should have put forth more effort to protect the city and its citizens.  The failed mayor of Baltimore was and remains so misguided in her interpretation of the law. She forced the police to put forth a wimpy effort against criminals who were then strengthened in their mission to kill, steal and destroy.

The United States of America is a nation of laws.  Some of which are enforceable guidelines for the protection of  law abiding sovereign citizens.  They are not silly proclamations to allow looters, gang bangers and wannabes to destroy everything in sight because of some imaginary racist boogeyman.  “We the People” who truly desire a better life for our fellow Americans must demand that government be a fearsome force against evil doers, no matter what their color.

I am of the opinion that the Baltimore rioting was allowed either on purpose, or thru stupidity to get out of control and the looters were given way too much leeway.  Some pundits called it a delicate balance.  There is nothing delicate or balanced about thugs destroying private property, assaulting police officers, stealing and burning cars.  Thus a swift and powerful force should have been applied to stop the bully cretins who were more interested in decreasing jobs by burning businesses than seeking the truth about what really happened to Freddy Gray.

It was almost hilarious to witness the attorney for the Gray family call conservatives’ racist.  This after witnessing hours and hours of the end result of progressive, liberal indoctrination being acted out viciously on the streets of Baltimore.  I almost felt sorry for the Gray family attorney, who like many of the rioters blaming conservatives for the plight of black (he called them African Americans).  As long as black Americans continue to blame others for every problem (most of which they bring upon themselves) life will continue to be nothing more than misery for them and their generations far into the future.

If Black Americans truly want a better life, it would behoove them to quickly stop being willing agents of destruction and seek the path that leads to righteousness and restoration.  Black Americans must wean themselves away from the Alinsky, Soros inspired path of destruction.

Let us pray for wisdom and renewal to replace ignorance, misguided rage and broken families.

Connecting the Red Dots: Where convicted illegal alien murderers were released

I grew up believing you people in Washington took your oaths seriously to protect the citizens yet ICE released 169 convicted killers and a total of 35,000 other criminals back into our society because their home countries won’t take them back. Together, they committed nearly 88,000 crimes, according to recently released report.

Question: A total of 36,000 illegal aliens involved whose countries won’t take them back must be a large number of countries. So how many are there?

Do you in Congress have the names of the countries refusing to back their citizens? Do you know which of those countries we currently give financial aid? Do you plan on stopping all aid immediately to any country that won’t take back their citizens? If not, why not?

What about transferring them all to Guantanamo Bay so they won’t be a threat to U.S. citizens?

Warning: That Jacksonville or Tampa city employee you deal with may be a criminal

In 2008, the Jacksonville City Council adopted an ordinance reforming both its hiring procedures and its contractor bidding policies. In July 2009, the City’s Human Resources Department released the revised standard. In 2010 Jacksonville revised its screening summary for city employees and contractors.

The directive states that department heads will “not inquire about or consider criminal background check information in making a hiring decision.” Instead, “criminal information disclosure is required as part of the post-offer new hire process.”

The application instructions even encourage people with a criminal record to apply for city jobs.

The criminal background check screening is centralized in the City of Jacksonville Human Resources Department. Moreover, the screening process requires taking into account the specific duties of the job, the age of the offense, and rehabilitation. Denied applicants may appeal to Human Resources. Contractors are required to tally job opportunities for people with criminal records and report back to the City.

On January 14, 2013 Bob Buckhorn, the Mayor of Tampa, signed the ban the box ordinance approved by the City Council which covers city employees. Advocates in Tampa continue to work on expanding the ordinance to include city contractors. The Tampa Ordinance 2013-3 may be viewed by clicking here. The Tampa ban the box program is administered by Sharon Streater HOPE lead organizer, from the Direct Action & Research Training Center.

This effort is part of the Ban the Box project and National Employment Law Project. The ordinance only applies to the City Jacksonville employees. As of April 2013 there are fifty cities in twenty-one states that have implemented some form of Ban the Box ordinances. California, Illinois, Hawaii, Maryland, Minnesota, Oregon, Washington, Connecticut and Massachusetts have statewide Ban the Box legislation.

According to its website, “Ban the Box is a nationwide effort to remove criminal history inquiry; i.e. ‘the box’ from employer job applications. All employers have the right to know an applicant’s conviction history but the inquiry should be deferred until later in the interview process and not utilized as an automatic bar to employment at the application stage.” [Emphasis mine]

WDW – FL contacted both the City of Tampa and Jacksonville to determine how many people with criminal records have been hired as city employees and in the case of Jacksonville by contractors. According to Sharon Streater who administers the program for Tampa she has no data as the program is new. However, Streater did state that the disclaimer in the city announcements for job openings saying those with criminal records need not apply has been deleted.

The City of Jacksonville Civil Service and Personnel Rules and Regulations (revised in 2010) states:

The following are examples of extraordinary situations in which an employee may be immediately suspended without pay:

1. Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs on the job.
2. Use of alcohol or illegal drugs on the job or during the employee’s work day, to include breaks and lunch period.
3. Commission of an act which constitutes a felony offense or a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude under the criminal laws of the State of Florida or Federal Government. [Emphasis added]

The question: Are those Jacksonville public employees and contractors with criminal records given access to sensitive citizen information?

As Milton Friedman wrote, “A society that puts equality before freedom will get neither. A society that puts freedom before equality will get a high degree of both.”

Tipping the public sector job market to favor convicted criminals is problematic at the least and dangerous at the worst.

But, voters, like in the case of Washington, D.C. Mayor Marion Barry, re-elect criminals from time to time but that is another story. BTW Washington, D.C. passed a ban the box ordinance in 2010.
