Congressional Vote Needed to Expel Florida Congresswoman Indicted for $5 Million Theft

Six members of the U.S. House of Representatives have been expelled in history, with three removed for disloyalty during the Civil War and three for criminal conduct, including fraud. Of those, Michael Myers (D-PA) was expelled in 1980 after being convicted of bribery in the Abscam scandal, and James Traficant (D-OH) was expelled in 2002 following a conviction on charges including bribery, racketeering, and tax evasion, after misusing campaign funds and forcing staff to perform personal labor.

George Santos (R-NY) was expelled in 2023 based on findings by the House Ethics Committee that he committed fraud and misused campaign funds, though he has not yet been criminally convicted. The committee report detailed that Santos fabricated his resume, stole campaign donations, and spent funds on personal luxuries, including Botox and an adult website. While Santos is currently facing 23 felony counts including wire fraud and money laundering, his expulsion was based on ethical violations rather than a criminal conviction.

Other members disciplined for financial misconduct include:

  • George V. Hansen (R-ID), reprimanded in 1984 for false statements on financial disclosures.
  • Charles Rangel (D-NY), censured in 2010 for improper fundraising and tax violations.
  • David Schweikert (R-AZ), reprimanded in 2020 for misusing taxpayer funds and campaign finance violations.

This case highlights the basis for public mistrust in government accountability. While most Americans live from day to day, paycheck to paycheck, just check out how Rep. McCormick lived!

Our American youths deserve a country and a Congress that uphold the law as families struggle to live within their means. Examples of Congressional excesses and egregious criminal greed by our leaders are breaking the hearts of our children, desperate for worthy role models and despondent when they see avarice rewarded.

Our Congress has thus far failed and refused – in the face of mountains of material evidence – to hold one of its own accountable for alleged self-aggrandizement in excess of $5,000,000 of taxpayer crisis relief funds.

How many, many, many suffering crisis-stricken American families could have been helped with their shares of $5,000,000?

How many, many, many American youths are left without worthy role models whenever leaders are not held accountable?

How many more disillusioned American children will give up their trust in their government and turn their allegiance away from this nation?

No, Texans and Floridians Do NOT Pay Twice the Taxes Paid by Californians

Texas has the most regressive state tax system, but charges poor people more than California does its affluent residents, according to the Golden State’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, who further claims that middle-class Texans pay more than residents of his state and Florida.

“Who are you for? Are you just for the one percent or are you for the 98?” Newsom asked in a March 15 post on X. That Newsom, who has all but officially announced his campaign for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, would make such an easily discredited claim suggests a fate awaits him similar to that of former Vice-President Kamala Harris’s 2024 embarrassing bust.

Just Facts Daily (JFD), published by the non-partisan Texas-based Just Facts institute devoted to “publishing facts about public policies and teaching research skills,” likely needed less than a nanosecond of data-driven research to expose the fact that Newsom had it effectively backwards.

“IN FACT, California collects an average of $10,319 in taxes for every person in the state, while Texas collects $5,469, and Florida collects $4,914. Likewise, California collects 13.5% of its economy in taxes, while Florida collects 9.1% and Texas collects 8.6%,” JFD said.

In other words, California’s total tax take on average is almost precisely double that of Texas and a bit more than double that of the Florida’s total levy per person.

But JFD didn’t leave it at that. The researchers dug into the component parts of each of these three states’ tax systems. Here’s what they found:

  • “California’s top personal income tax rate is 13.3%, as compared to 0% in Texas and 0% in Florida.
  • “California’s property taxes average 2.8% of personal income, as compared to 3.6% in Texas and 2.6% in Florida.
  • “California’s top unemployment insurance tax rate is 6.2%, as compared to 6.2% in Texas and 5.4% in Florida.
  • “California’s sales tax rate is 7.2%, as compared to 6.2% in Texas and 6.0% in Florida.
  • “California’s excise tax on a gallon of gas is 70.9 cents, as compared to 20.0 cents in Texas and 40.3 cents in Florida.”

Interestingly, Newsom could have focused on property taxes where his state is measurably lower than that of Texas and nearly the same as the Florida rate. In addition, the California governor could have pointed to the three states’ unemployment insurance tax rate. For California, the rate is 6.2%, same as the Lone Star state and almost a full percentage point higher than Florida.

On the other hand, Newsom’s California demands an excise tax haul of 70.9 cents per gallon, which is more than three times higher than the 20 cents charged per gallon by Texas and considerably higher than Florida’s 40.3 cents per gallon. The sales tax rate for California is also noticeably higher at 7.2%, versus 6.2% in Texas and 6.0% for Florida.

It turns out that Newsom apparently drew his erroneous comparison based on an analysis published by a left-wing non-profit, the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP), whose work is riddled with errors and misrepresentations, according to JFD’s James Agresti, who is Just Facts’ president and its co-founder.

“The findings of this study have been uncritically cited in prominent venues such as the Washington PostCBS, the Daily BeastNewsmax, the Providence Journal, and the New York Times. For instance, the Times reported that ‘according to the study, in 2015 the poorest fifth of Americans will pay on average 10.9 percent of their income in state and local taxes, the middle fifth will pay 9.4 percent and the top 1 percent will average 5.4 percent.’”

“Glaringly absent from the media coverage is how this study uses the same type of deceitful methodology behind claims that the middle class pays a higher federal tax rate than the top 1 percent of income earners, Warren Buffett pays a lower federal tax rate than his secretary, and Mitt Romney pays a lower federal tax rate than the middle class,” Agresti explained.

Those deceitful methodological approaches include, among others, Agresti noted, the use of “calculations that exclude certain taxes, use partial measures of income, or employ both of these charades. The result is that the actual tax rates of the wealthy are understated, while those of others are progressively overstated as their income declines.” Just Facts’ detailed explanation provides additional details on flaws in the ITEP analysis.

As Agresti explained in detail, however, the presence of such analytical flaws didn’t stop The Washington Post, New York Times, and other media outlets from uncritically reporting a claim that an aspiring Democratic presidential candidate thought would advance his campaign to win four years in the Oval Office.

Florida Passes Voter ID Bill as National SAVE Act Stalls

The Florida Senate passed voter ID legislation Thursday, sending the bill to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ desk, as the SAVE America Act stalls in the U.S. Senate.

SB 1334, a bill to strengthen the verification process for voters’ citizenship status, passed the Sunshine State’s Senate 27-12, fulfilling the prediction of Florida Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia earlier Thursday.

The bill had passed the Florida House, 83-21, in February.

“These new laws will further help protect the ballot box,” Jeremy Redfern, deputy chief of staff to Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, told The Daily Signal. “We thank the Florida Legislature for being champions of election integrity and look forward to this legislation hitting Governor DeSantis’ desk for his signature.”

The bill will require voters to verify their citizenship with a photo identification card and require the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to note the citizenship status of drivers who receive new identification.

Prior to the vote, Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis announced in a social media post that he will sign the bill into law.

“Although Florida has already enacted much of what the federal legislation contemplates, this will further fortify our state as the leader in election integrity,” DeSantis wrote on X.

Republican state Rep. David Borrero told The Daily Signal that he refers to SB 1334 as the “SAVE Act,” like the national legislation, “because it helps save our democratic elections.”

“Requiring proof of citizenship ensures that voters are actually eligible to vote. Our system cannot be hijacked by noncitizens,” Borrero added.

Borrero attacked the 31 Democrats who voted against the bill in the state House.

“Clearly, it’s because they want illegals to vote in our elections,” he charged. “They are very weak on illegal immigrants; they incentivize it.”

The legislation, if signed into law, will take effect in January 2027.

Both Borrero and Ingoglia said there is no excuse for Republicans in the federal government to fail to pass voter ID when Florida passed the bill so efficiently.

“I agree with this 110%,” Borrero said. “Our entire U.S. Constitution relies on a system where only citizens vote. We cannot allow foreign nationals to hijack that system. This bill is needed to combat illegal voting all across the country, especially in states like California and New York.”

Borrero added that the bill is “so commonsense, that it wasn’t necessary before. But since the Left is so radicalized, we need to implement this now.”

During his press conference, Ingoglia issued similar remarks, adding that there is “zero reason” for a Republican-controlled Congress to be unable to pass “a very much-needed piece of legislation.”

The SAVE America Act, which has been championed by President Donald Trump and passed by the U.S. House of Representatives three times since 2024, continues to stall in the Senate, allegedly over bipartisan opposition.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., has promised to bring the bill to a vote in the Senate next week, but a source familiar with the matter previously told The Daily Signal the vote will be considered a “show vote.”

“I can confirm, it looks like Thune is planning to bring it to a vote next week as a show vote,” the source said. “Despite outrage from GOP voters and the specific request of the president, he is not planning on pursuing a standing filibuster or any other method to actually pass the bill.”

A standing filibuster would bypass the 60-vote threshold needed to pass legislation and allow the legislation to pass with just 50 votes.

There are currently 53 Republicans in the Senate.

The Daily Signal reached out to Florida state Senate Democrat Leader Lori Berman and U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., for comment, but neither responded by publication time.

U.S. Secret Service Killed Armed Man Attempting To Breach Mar-a-Lago

U.S. Secret Service agents shot and killed an unidentified man attempting to force his way into President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida early Sunday morning.

The two agents and a deputy from the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office confronted the individual, who was in his early 20s, armed with a shotgun, and carrying a gas can, according to a press conference held by federal and local law enforcement officials following a statement from the U.S. Secret Service.

“An armed man was shot & killed by U.S. Secret Service agents & @PBCountySheriff after unlawfully entering the secure perimeter at Mar-a-Lago early this morning. A press briefing with additional details will be held at 9:00 a.m with @FBI and Palm Beach County,” Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Gugliemi wrote.

WATCH:

“At 1:30 this morning the security detail detected an individual had made his way into the inner perimeter of Mar-a-Lago. A deputy and two Secret Service agents on the detail went to that area to investigate,” Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw told reporters at the Sunday morning press conference. “They confronted a white male that was carrying a gas can and a shotgun. He was ordered to drop those two pieces of equipment that he had with him and, at which time he put down the gas can, raised the shotgun to a shooting position, and at that point in time the deputy and the two Secret Service agents fired their weapons and neutralized the threat. He is deceased at the scene.”

Trump was not at the Florida residence at the time. He and first lady Melania Trump hosted the nation’s governors at the White House for a dinner event Saturday night.

Trump survived two assassination attempts during the 2024 campaign. A Sept. 15, 2024 assassination attempt by Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was thwarted by Secret Service agents at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.

During a July 13, 2024 campaign rally in Butler County, Penn., Trump was wounded when a bullet fired by Thomas Crooks grazed his ear.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated.

Florida Becomes Only the Fourth State to Offer English-Only Driver’s License Exams

Last Friday, Florida began administering English-only driver’s license exams, only the fourth state to do so. English-only driving exams make the roads safer for all drivers, and every other state should follow suit.

Recently, the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles office announced that all driver’s license exams will be administered in English only, including all knowledge exams, commercial learner’s permit, and commercial driver’s license exams. All road signs are in English, so it’s common sense for all driving exams to only be administered in English.

In April, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to strengthen laws ensuring English proficiency for commercial drivers. Before Trump took office, English proficiency requirements were not enforced to obtain a commercial driver’s license.

The Daily Signal depends on the support of readers like you. Donate now

In 2016, under the Obama administration, commercial drivers who failed to prove proficiency in English, including reading and speaking English and understanding the road signs in English, were not prohibited from operating commercial vehicles.

The Biden administration launched the Commercial Motor Vehicle Operator Safety Training Grant Program in 2024, which included expanding commercial driving opportunities to refugees. Multiple people have died because of the lack of English-language proficiency enforcement.

In August, Harjinder Singh, a 28-year-old alien from India who illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border in 2018, killed three Floridians. He tried to make an illegal U-turn across all lanes of a highway, causing an SUV to crash into the truck.

Singh had obtained a commercial license in Washington state and California. The Department of Transportation revealed that he failed to prove proficiency in English, both on paper and in reading road signs. Singh was issued his Washington state commercial license in July 2023 and his California license in July 2024.

In December, Yisong Huang, a 54-year-old Chinese national who illegally entered the U.S. in 2023, killed a woman and injured two others in Tennessee when he crashed into a tractor-trailer while distracted by his phone.

Huang obtained a Class B license in New York under the Biden administration because he was provided with a Social Security card and work authorization papers.

According to Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, Huang “failed a basic English test” but was issued a license earlier in 2025 anyway because he was given a Social Security card and work documents—both necessary to obtain a license—when he was released from U.S. Border Patrol after crossing illegally.

Last week, Bekzhan Beishekeev, a 30-year-old illegal alien from Kyrgyzstan, killed a family of four in Indiana. He obtained his commercial license in Pennsylvania.

If someone is incapable of taking a driving exam in the same language as the road signs, then that person should not be allowed to drive. Doing so puts American drivers at risk, which has, unfortunately, already happened.

Florida follows Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Wyoming as the fourth state to administer driving exams in English only. California offers its regular Class C driver’s license exam in 10 languages, including Chinese, Farsi, Punjabi, and Spanish. New York also offers its driver’s license exam in multiple languages, including Arabic, Bengali, Haitian Creole, and Urdu.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ move to make driver’s license exams in English only follows the Trump administration’s efforts to hold trucking companies accountable for hiring non-English-speaking drivers, which would also aid in preventing illegal aliens from being hired.

The Trump administration also arrested over 140 illegal alien truck drivers in Operation Midway Blitz, and thousands of truck drivers and commercial driver’s licenses have been affected for failing English proficiency.

Illegal aliens who enter our country are not authorized to work. Nor should they receive ill-gotten benefits subsequent to illegally entering the U.S., including a driver’s license or a commercial driver’s license.

To save lives, it is imperative that the Department of Transportation continue to remove every illegal alien driving with a commercial license from our roads. And states should ensure that all types of drivers can pass English-only road safety exams to receive a license.

Bureaucrats’ Political Donations Hint Census Bureau Over-Counting for Democrats May Not Be Coincidental

Undercounting the population in red states like Texas and Florida in 2020 cost Republicans at least six seats in the House of Representatives, while overcounting in blue states like California and New York contributed to 18 new Democratic seats, according to Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-Texas).

“In 2020, the Census Bureau undercounted in primarily deep-red states like Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas, all red, while overcounting in radical blue states like Delaware, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, and Rhode Island,” Hunt told a November 19, 2025, hearing of the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government.

“This egregious error led to many states being denied proper representation in Congress and the Electoral College. So much so that these errors costs Republicans … six seats in the House. In addition to the 2020 miscounting, including illegal immigrants in the Census has improperly granted radical Left blue states 12 additional seats in the United States House of Representatives. That is a total of 18 seats gain and that is a huge problem. And those are the facts,” Hunt told the hearing.

The Census Bureau acknowledged the over and under counts in a May 2025 report. The Census Bureau uses its population counts as the basis for determining how many House of Representatives seats are in each of the 50 states. The census counts all present individuals without distinguishing between citizens and noncitizens, meaning a higher head count gives a state more House seats, without regard to citizenship status. It is illegal for noncitizens to vote in all federal elections, as well as the vast majority of state and local contests.

Not all of the undercounted states were red, as deep-blue Illinois was among this group, while not all of the overcounted states were blue. Ohio and Utah, both red states, were among the over-counted group, according to the Census report.

Most congressional Republicans like Hunt support requiring Census Bureau counters to at least include a question about the citizenship of every counted individual, while most congressional Democrats oppose such a requirement. The issue has intensified in recent years, especially during the Biden administration’s open-border era in which millions of illegal immigrants crossed into the U.S.

Legislation originally introduced in the House of Representatives in 2025 by Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) — The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act — requires proof of citizenship when registering to vote and provides criminal penalties for violations. The measure, which has 110 House co-sponsors, including Hunt, passed the lower chamber but has not been acted upon by the Senate. President Donald Trump supports the measure.

Hunt did not address the issue of whether political bias within the Census Bureau’s workforce could be a factor in the significant under and overcounting, but The Washington Stand’s review of Federal Election Commission (FEC) campaign contribution data for the years 2023, 2024, and 2025 found a huge bias in favor of Democrats among donors who said they work for the agency.

During the three years indicated, the FEC records disclosed 4,037 contributions by individuals who listed “U.S. Census Bureau” as their employer. Of those contributions, 3,583 went to Democrats, compared to 455 made to Republicans, for a 7-1 ratio. The average Democrat contribution was for $29, while the average Republican contribution was $229.

Interestingly, the total dollar value of the contributions by Census Bureau workers to Democrats was $104,597, only slightly more than the $104,130 total given to Republicans.

Federal workers like those at the Census Bureau are covered by the Hatch Act, which bars partisan political activities by government employees while on official duty. The Hatch Act does not limit the right of government employees to work for candidates while off-duty, to contribute to the candidates of their choice, or to participate in activities supporting candidates, as long as federal property is not used in the process.

Two-thirds of the Democratic contributions, or 1,999 of the 3,582 total, were given through Act Blue, a digital site that acts as a conduit for campaign funding from individuals to favored candidates. Winred, the similar digital site created by Republicans to counter Act Blue, accounted for only 253 contributions to GOP candidates by Census Bureau workers.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris, the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee, received 347 contributions from Census workers, compared to just 69 for Trump, her 2024 Republican rival.

Apprised of the Census Bureau employee contribution bias, Hunt provided the following statement to The Washington Stand:

“The inaccuracies and deliberate manipulations embedded in Democrat-led Census reporting expose a level of corruption that plagued the previous administration and continues today under radical Left leadership. Despite these efforts, the American people saw through the deception and delivered a decisive victory for Donald Trump in the last election.

“Now, with Republicans holding all three chambers of government, we have both the responsibility and the obligation to correct these abuses immediately and restore integrity to the process by ensuring that Census data reflects only United States citizens.

“The irony is unmistakable. For years, Democrats have warned of a supposed threat to democracy, while actively engaging in the very practices that undermine it — manipulating systems designed to distort representation and influence elections. Democracy is not endangered by transparency and lawful governance. It is endangered by those who abuse institutions for political gain.”

Hunt will not be in the House of Representatives in 2027, as he is seeking the Republican nomination for the Senate in a hotly contested primary that also includes Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and the Lone Star State’s long-serving incumbent, Senator John Cornyn. The primary election is March 3.

Florida: Muslim who murdered three men at random shot at people at random before, was found to be ‘mentally ill’

In Europe, mental illness is the default explanation for jihad activity. Authorities don’t want to admit that such a thing as jihad exists, so they have to classify jihadis as something else. Ahmad Jihad Bojeh looks as if he has been intent on killing people at random for quite some time. Where did he get this idea? Might it have something to do with the repeated calls from ISIS and al-Qaeda to murder random Americans and Europeans? Authorities are virtually certain not to investigate that possibility.

An update on this story. “Florida madman stalked tourists near Disney before allegedly killing them in random attack: family,” by Sarah Rumpf-Whitten, Fox News, January 20, 2026:

Three men who were waiting for assistance after car trouble were stalked from a distance before they were allegedly gunned down by a “frequent flyer” with the criminal justice system in Florida, the victims’ families said.

According to a joint statement from their families shared with Fox News Digital, the men had traveled to Central Florida to attend the Mecum Car Show, the world’s largest collector car auction, and were staying at an Airbnb. The families said that the suspect eyed the victims at a distance before they were shot and killed.

“There were no known interactions between the men and this individual prior to the event; they were then approached and senselessly murdered,” the family said. “This was a random, tragic act.”

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired at 12:14 p.m. Saturday in the Indian Point subdivision. When deputies arrived, they discovered three men dead in front of the residence, all suffering from fatal gunshot wounds.

The victims were identified as Robert Luis Kraft, 70, of Holland, Michigan; his brother Douglas Joseph Kraft, 68, of Columbus, Ohio; and James John Puchan, 69, also of Columbus.

The men, according to the family statement, were preparing to travel home on Saturday but were forced to extend their stay due to rental car trouble. The “random” shooting happened as they were standing outside the residence waiting for a replacement rental car to arrive.

The suspect was identified as 29-year-old Ahmad Jihad Bojeh, who lived next door to the rental property.

According to the sheriff’s department, authorities observed Bojeh flee to his residence shortly after the shooting, where he was later detained and found with two firearms. He has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder.

Bojeh had multiple prior encounters with the criminal justice system before Saturday’s deadly shooting, including a 2021 case in which he was charged with attempted first-degree murder with a firearm and aggravated battery after allegedly shooting at a person and random vehicles in a Kissimmee gas station parking lot.

Court records obtained by Fox News Digital show Bojeh was later found not guilty by reason of insanity in that case.

Additional records show Bojeh had prior arrests for felony drug possession and misdemeanor resisting an officer without violence, reflecting years of repeated contact with law enforcement.

A Sentence No Child Should Ever Have to Say

“Mom’s dead. Dad’s dead. I was shot. Because of a football game on TV.”

If this were a television script, most viewers would turn it off.

Not because it was boring. But because it would feel so absurd, so disconnected from how human beings are supposed to behave, that it would strain credibility. People would assume the writers had lost touch with reality.

Yet this week, it was not fiction.

A man argued with his wife because she asked him to stop watching a football game. He killed her. He shot a child. Then he killed himself.

That sequence of events should not be possible in a functioning society. And yet it happened.

Now imagine the child who survived.

Imagine growing up and having to explain, at some point in life, why you are orphaned.

“One night, my mom told my dad to stop watching a football game. He killed her, shot me, and then killed himself.”

Read that sentence again.

Not because it is shocking, but because of how disproportionate it is. A trivial moment. A routine domestic annoyance. Followed by irreversible destruction.

And this is not an isolated story.

In Atlanta, an employee at a Subway restaurant was shot and killed after a customer became upset about a condiment on his sandwich. According to police, the dispute was over too much mayonnaise.

Too much mayonnaise.

In Daytona Beach, Florida, a man shot and killed his wife in front of her parents after an argument that began because he had hidden her motorcycle and refused to tell her where it was. When her parents arrived to help, he retrieved a rifle and opened fire as they tried to leave.

These are not crimes of desperation. They are not acts driven by survival or self-defense. They are explosions triggered by inconvenience, frustration, and wounded ego.

This is not about football. It is not about mayonnaise. It is not about a motorcycle.

It is about the collapse of internal limits.

For most of human history, people understood that emotions had ceilings. Anger flared, but it stopped. Conflict erupted, but it resolved. Even violence, when it existed, followed some distorted sense of proportion.

Today, something has changed.

Minor friction increasingly produces catastrophic outcomes. There is no pause. No brake. No internal voice saying, this ends here. Not even against family members.

Everything escalates. Everything becomes final.

We live in a culture that trains people to indulge impulse, validate rage, and treat emotional discomfort as an injustice. Self-control is mocked. Restraint is framed as repression. Consequences are always someone else’s fault.

And the innocent pay the price.

Not in abstract statistics. In real lives. In hospital beds. In children who will carry stories that make no sense because the culture that produced them no longer makes sense.

This is not a call for hysteria. It is a call for honesty.

Something is deeply wrong when trivial moments can detonate into annihilation. When anger has no governor. When people cannot tolerate frustration without resorting to destruction.

What’s disturbing is that we now live in a culture where a sentence like that can even exist.

There is a reason Scripture treats anger as dangerous, not merely unpleasant.

There is a verse I am constantly reminding myself of whenever anger rises: “Do not let the sun go down on your anger.” Ephesians 4:26.

God does not give that warning casually. It is an acknowledgment of how destructive unresolved anger can become if it is allowed to fester, harden, and grow overnight.

God knows the danger. He warned us of the danger. But for the casual Christian, and certainly for the unbeliever, that warning is often never learned, or never taken seriously.

Modern-Day Slavery in Collier County, Florida

United States Court — Middle District of Florida

Unskilled farm labor jobs attract immigrants who are easily exploited. Many don’t know their rights or may fear calling authorities if they’re here illegally. Since 1997, the United States Department of Justice Civil Rights Division(link is external) has prosecuted several labor servitude cases in Florida, prompting one federal official to label the state “ground zero for modern slavery.”

The Tecum Case

For years, Jose Tecum stalked a girl in her Guatemalan village. In the summer of 1999, he kidnapped her.

Tecum used witchcraft, or brujeria, native to their culture to ensure that she never left his side. The girl believed she and her family would be hurt if she didn’t live with him. He raped her, locking the girl inside his house. With no police in her village, the girl had no place to get help.

Soon after, Tecum smuggled the girl to Immokalee to live with him and his wife, Maria, and their three children, to do domestic chores in the couple’s home. He destroyed her identification papers.

Tecum told the girl she would have to work in farm labor and in his home for a year to pay off the smuggling debt, demanding the girl sign over her paychecks to him. Tecum forced her to have sex with him when his wife was not at home.

In November 1999, Maria Tecum returned to find her husband with the girl in the bedroom. Maria confronted Jose and he pushed and grabbed his wife. Their domestic dispute brought authorities to the couple’s home. Jose Tecum was arrested on a battery charge and booked into the Collier jail.

The next morning the deputy went to check on Maria Tecum. There she noticed the girl Maria Tecum had found with her husband the night before. The teenager told the deputy she felt like a slave. She said:

“I don’t even have money to buy a Coca-Cola because he takes my money.”

The deputy pieced together the girl’s story and convinced her she was free to leave the Tecum home. The young woman left with a single plastic grocery bag holding all of her belongings.

A federal jury convicted Tecum of kidnapping, slavery, immigration violations, and fraud and misuse of visas.

Tecum was sentenced to nine years in federal prison.

Douglas Molloy

Assistant United States District Attorney

As an assistant United States attorney with the United States Department of Justice(link is external), Douglas Molloy prosecuted the case against Jose Tecum and continues to prosecute many others involved in human trafficking in Florida.

“One of the most compelling things that occurred during the trial had to do with information the victim divulged to the victim advocate. After he raped her, the defendant cut off a lock of her hair, telling the girl, ‘Now, I own your soul.’

The terrified victim said the defendant kept that lock of hair on him always to remind her she was his slave. When the prosecution team learned of this information, we thought: if he had it with him always, he must have had it when he was arrested, and went back to the booking sheet that listed the items taken from the defendant upon arrest.

Sure enough, one of the items listed was a plastic envelope with a lock of hair. This evidence was presented to the jury as more proof the victim was telling the truth, and the defendant found it very hard to explain his witchcraft on cross-examination.”

“Many Americans do not know that slavery still exists in their country, but as more and more people become aware, the chances a person involved in the trafficking of humans will be caught and prosecuted will be increased, and the victims of slavery will be empowered and able to have their lives and souls back.”

Why Here?

Greed and the high demand for unskilled laborers feed the spread of human trafficking in Collier County. Wealthy residents and unscrupulous hotel, spa, and restaurant owners cut expenses with indentured servants. Farm workers are often smuggled illegally in this country with the promise of good-paying jobs and are scared to report abuse. The victims are often invisible. Trafficking victims could be changing sheets at beach hotels, filling restaurant orders, or picking tomatoes.

Chairman of Santa Rosa County Democrat Party Advocating for Illegal Immigrants in Navarre, Florida

Navarre, Florida has become a small bastion of Communists fleeing states like New York and California to escape their oppressive high taxes, inflation and gas prices (which they voted for in the past) but they forget to leave their Marxist ideology at the Florida state line upon arrival in Santa Rosa County.

It was wonderful to see Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) rounding up illegal immigrants in Navarre, arresting these people who have entered our republic and our state and county in violation of Congressional Immigration laws. Ref: Section (8 U.S.C. 1325)

Then we have WEAR Channel 3 News reporting on the ICE raid in Navarre and you Mr. Chairman of the Santa Rosa County Democrat Party is interviewed and you said quote.

“These raids are causing a lot of harm to those impacted” “It’s extremely traumatic emotionally” You also said “This is not what we do here in Santa Rosa County, we live with values”

So the Democrat Party leadership is advocating for the non enforcement of Congressional Immigration Laws so that Illegal Immigrants can continue to enter our country and work without authorization in Navarre.

These illegal Immigrants have NOT been vetted for past criminal behaviour and have NOT been medically cleared for contagious diseases and the Democrat party supports this?

Illegal Immigrants disrespect our laws and our sovereignty by refusing to follow due process like other immigrants who come here legally and this is all endorsed by the leadership of the Santa Rosa County Democrat Party Dr. B.J. Brunious.

As a doctor Dr. B.J Brunios if you treat an illegal immigrant, where do you send the bill for your services? Do you work for free or does your admin staff file Medicaid charges against American taxpayers here in Florida ?. Redistribution of wealth right?

If an American is raped by an illegal immigrant and is now under your care Dr. B J Brunios will you report this incident to ICE and the local sherriff or willl you protect the illegal immigrant from prosecution?

So B.J Brunios I very much doubt you were born and raised in Santa Rosa County but you are probably an infestation from a Blue Communist state. My opinion.

In Santa Rosa County Florida our values include “upholding” Congressional Law, and prosecuting those who fail to uphold our values as law abiding Americans. Not protecting illegal immigrants that broke our laws by virtue of entering our county without proper authority.

You are right, it is very traumatic emotionally for the illegal immigrant to be arrested by ICE but you fail to mention the American citizens who may have been robbed, assualted and raped by the same illegal immigrants you state are now being traumatized by these ICE raids.

If these people stayed in their home country and or followed due process to obtain legal status to enter our republic then this ICE raid would not be necessary.

So please continue your ranting Dr Brunios, WEAR Channel 3 News actually did a pretty good balanced job on reporting this ICE raid in Navarre and they exposed you for your “PUT AMERICA LAST” platform which is what the Democrat Party platform stands for.

My advice to you Dr. B.J. Brunios is to leave Santa Rosa County and go back to where you came from and take your Anti God pro sodomite homosexual lifestyle, your pro Marxist anti American, your pro Illegal Immigrant ideology with you. Maybe we should check your legal status too.

As an afterthought. Hopefully you get screened frequently for HIV by the hospital employing you in Gulf Breeze considering your job working closely with patients and your high risk gay ladyboy lifestyle.

Historic U.S. Child Rescue: 60 Missing, Trafficked Children Saved in Florida Operation

Florida’s “Operation Dragon Eye” was successful in rescuing 60 children who were missing, endangered, or victims of human trafficking, state officials announced Monday.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier (R) said in a press briefing: “We are here to announce the most successful completion of the largest child rescue operation, not just in Florida history, but in the United States history.” As he went on to say, “Protecting our kids and keeping Florida the safest state to raise a family is our number one priority. Today is a result of the hard work to deliver on that promise.”

For two intense weeks, the U.S. Marshals Service, in collaboration with Florida state and local authorities, conducted a sweeping operation across Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco counties in the Tampa Bay area. This coordinated effort united 20 federal, state, and local agencies, mobilizing over 100 law enforcement officers, investigators, and support personnel. The children, ranging in age from 9 to 17, were found in a variety of dire circumstances, including situations involving human trafficking, abduction, and endangerment. Upon rescue, each child received immediate medical evaluations and psychological support to address the physical and emotional trauma they had endured.

U.S. Marshal William Berger revealed the operation’s dual mission: to locate and rescue vulnerable children while targeting the criminal networks responsible for their exploitation. “[E]xperience tells us,” he noted, “if the offenders are not apprehended, they will reconnect with these children.” The team arrested eight predators, charging them with heinous crimes including human trafficking, child endangerment, and drug trafficking. Bonds for these offenders ranged from no bond to a staggering $250 million.

Fox News reported that “The operation uncovered the gut-wrenching realities of sex trafficking — including several young girls who were pregnant, one of them carrying the child of her trafficker.” According to authorities, the investigation is ongoing “and additional charges may follow.”

In a statement, Uthmeier, speaking as both state attorney general and a father of three, underscored the mission’s heart. “The real heroes behind this operation are the law enforcement who built and executed this mission,” he said. “As your Attorney General and a father of three young kids, protecting children is my top priority. If you victimize children, you’re going to prison, end of story.”

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Commissioner Mark Glass captured the operation’s profound impact. “Sixty kids saved,” he said. “That number sends the message that Florida will never be a safe place for traffickers. At FDLE, we will continue to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. And to any family still missing their child, we will never stop searching until we make sure they are brought home safely.”

Berger’s final words echoed the operation’s unprecedented scale: “[T]he successful recovery of 60 missing children, complemented with the arrest of eight individuals, including child predators, signifies the most successful missing child recovery effort in the history of the United States Marshals Service; or to my knowledge, any other similar operation held in the United States.”

According to The Child Crime Prevention and Safety Center, roughly 840,000 U.S. children are reported missing annually. And Florida, with its large population and major transportation hubs, has long been a haven for traffickers seeking to exploit vulnerable populations. As such, while “Operation Dragon Eye” marks a significant triumph, authorities warn that human trafficking remains a pervasive threat. In 2024 alone, Florida received over 1,830 trafficking signals, leading to the identification of 1,874 victims, many of them minors lured through manipulation or online platforms, as reported by Fox.

In response, Florida has intensified its efforts. Governor Ron DeSantis (R) recently allocated $4.9 million to expand emergency shelter beds and staff support for trafficking victims, alongside $900,000 in grant funding for the FDLE. As DeSantis previously affirmed, “Florida is being proactive about stopping human trafficking.”

Mary Szoch, director of Family Research Council’s Center for Human Dignity, praised the operation’s monumental success in a statement to The Washington Stand. “Attorney General James Uthmeier should be commended for his commitment to upholding the dignity of every human being,” she said. “The rescue of these 60 trafficked children is a huge accomplishment for the state of Florida.”

Szoch concluded with a call to action: “Every single person’s life matters, and no one should be exploited as if he or she was an object. We should all continue to pray for the well-being of these 60 children, and we should thank God for the work they are doing in Florida to uphold the sanctity of life in all of its stages.”

Rick Scott Tells Charlie Kirk He Won’t Support Trump’s ‘Beautiful Bill’ In Present Form

Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott told Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk on Tuesday that he would not vote for President Donald Trump’s House-passed “one big, beautiful bill” in its present form.

Trump gave Senate Republicans permission to make major changes to the bill on Sunday as some GOP senators are warning that the package is dead-on-arrival without significant reforms. On “The Charlie Kirk Show,” Scott said he would “absolutely” vote against it without additional spending cuts.

WATCH:

“If they brought it to the floor like right now, there’s not a chance it’ll get the 51 votes it needs … Look we all know we have to balance the budget,” Scott said. “Look, we know that it’s getting harder to sell our treasuries, we know interest rates are going up. We want to get interest rates down, we can get inflation under control. That means balance the budget.”

Kirk said Scott’s opposition to the current bill was “a big statement.” The host asked the senator what it would take to get the bill to pass and about the reconciliation process.

“Charlie, we’ll change it. We’ll have our own bill and … it will go back to a conference or just go back to the House and they’ll pass our bill. But I believe we’re going to dramatically reduce mandatory spending to get this budget balance in a short period of time, which is what we have to do,” Scott told Kirk. “It’s what we promise. I just went through my election just like President Trump did. We all promise we’re going to balance the budget. We are going to set the process to quickly balance in this budget.”

GOP Sens. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Rand Paul of Kentucky are among the fiscal hawks influencing the deliberation about spending deficits. Johnson has also noted Republican Utah Sen. Mike Lee and Scott as senators who are seeking further spending cuts in the bill.

Johnson is advocating for the government to return to pre-pandemic spending levels — a nearly $6 trillion reduction — and calls the current bill “completely unacceptable.”

While House Republicans felt pressured to accept the bill due to the upcoming 2026 midterm elections, numerous Senators do not.

“In the House, President Trump can threaten a primary, and those guys want to keep their seats. I understand the pressure. Can’t pressure me that way,” Johnson told reporters on Thursday. “I’m not going to vote for it with minor tweaks. I think everybody’s kind of happy talking and ‘get together and pull together and gotta do this’ and that crap. That’s the way they’re going to try to make it go.”

Paul has said that he opposes the bill based on language that will increase the debt limit by $4 trillion over the next two years — something Trump has demanded.

“I’ve told them if they’ll take the debt ceiling off of it, I’ll consider voting for it,” Paul told reporters on Thursday. “We’ve never, ever voted to raise the debt ceiling this much. It’ll be a historic increase. I think it’s not good for conservatives to be on record supporting a $4 (trillion) or $5 trillion increase in the debt ceiling.”

“If they were to take the debt ceiling off of it and have the tax reductions and spending reductions, I’d probably vote for that,” Paul added. “The spending reductions are imperfect, and I think wimpy, but I’d still vote for the package if I didn’t have to vote to raise the debt ceiling.”

‘Sh*tshow’: Florida’s Democratic Party Turning Into Circular Firing Squad Following Mass Exodus

The Florida Democratic Party has been grappling with a series of hurdles in recent months, including losing two costly Congressional special elections and seeing some high-profile members unexpectedly exit the party.

Florida Democrats have been struggling with rising tensions and intraparty fighting since the 2024 election cycle, Politico reported on Wednesday. The report comes after former Florida state Senate Democratic leader Jason Pizzo, who was once viewed as a potential gubernatorial candidate, announced in April that he was registering as an unaffiliated voter and stepping down from his leadership role.

Pizzo said at the time that the Florida Democratic Party was “dead.” He added that he thought his state’s political system was akin to the “infighting, power struggles, corruption and decline of civic virtue that pervaded and eventually ushered in the fall of Rome.”

Pizzo’s office referred the Daily Caller News Foundation to his prior comments on why he left the party, when reached for comment.

“It’s a sign of larger problems we all know about,” one Democratic political organizer told Politico about Pizzo leaving the state’s Democratic Party. “This party right now is in shambles and has been in shambles for I don’t know how many years. At this point, we have been doing the same thing for 30 years and there’s just nothing happening.”

One anonymous Florida Democrat told Politico that the state’s Democratic Party is “such a goddamn shitshow.”

“What Democratic Party?” another anonymous Florida Democrat asked the outlet.

Pizzo’s departure from the party comes after two Florida state representatives, Hillary Cassel and Susan Valdés, announced in December 2024 that they were switching to the Republican Party, one month after winning reelection as Democrats. The pair of defections expanded the Florida GOP’s supermajority in the Florida House of Representatives to 86 seats, compared to the Democrats’ 34.

Miami filmmaker Billy Corben, who exited the party in 2024 after serving on the Miami-Dade County Democratic executive committee, told Politico he realized the Democratic Party of Florida was “far worse than I expected and far more dysfunctional and grim than what I had reported from the outside looking in.”

The Democratic Party lost two special elections in Florida in early April, despite the party’s candidates massively outraising their GOP opponents.

Florida was long considered a swing state and was viewed as being competitive in presidential election cycles as recently as 2020. However, after years of trending rightward, it is now considered to be a deep red state.

In the 2024 presidential election, Trump carried the Sunshine State by 13 percentage points, receiving 56.1% of the vote to former Vice President Kamala Harris’ 43%. Trump’s performance in Florida marked the best performance of any Republican presidential candidate in the state since 1988.

In 2020, the president won Florida by a significantly smaller margin, notching 51.2% of the vote to former President Joe Biden’s 47.9%. Meanwhile in 2016, Trump had barely carried the state over failed Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, securing 48.6% of the vote compared to Clinton’s 47.4%.

Florida Democrats were also dealt a blow in the down-ballot races during the 2024 election cycle as voters rejected two ballot initiatives the party had heavily backed, Florida Amendment 3 and Florida Amendment 4. Amendment 3 would have legalized recreational marijuana in the state and Amendment 4 would have legalized abortion until fetal viability, usually defined around 24 weeks of pregnancy.

Political analyst Susan MacManus told WUSF in a November 2024 interview that the state’s Democrats suffered significant losses in the 2024 election cycle because the party prioritized issues that did not connect with many Floridians.

The Florida Democratic Party did not respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.

Florida poised to become second state to ban fluoride in public drinking water and the Democrats are livid

Following Utah, Florida’s state legislature passes bill and sends to Governor’s desk, as 75 years of lies about fluoride are finally being exposed.

A bill that would ban fluoride and other harmful chemicals from Florida public water systems is heading to Governor Ron DeSantis’ desk.

The Florida House passed the prohibition on Tuesday. The Senate did so earlier in the month. It’s the Senate bill, SB 700, that both chambers ultimately approved.

Fluoride is a chemical agent used in industrial capacities that communities around the U.S. have for decades added to their public drinking-water systems, allegedly to help protect against tooth decay.

Whether it actually prevents tooth decay may be up for debate.

What’s not up for debate any longer is that fluoridated water, even in relatively small amounts, causes low IQs in children. Even Harvard University researchers found this to be true.

And yet, in 2025, if you state these facts you’re still labeled a conspiracy theorist. It’s impossible to get articles like the one on Harvard to come up in search engines like Google, DuckDuckGo and Yahoo. I had to use the Russian search engine Yandex to find it.

Supporters of the Florida legislation, such as Republican Rep. Danny Alvarez, said citizens shouldn’t be forced to have additives in their water if they don’t want them. This was a clever way of skirting around the truth, which is that fluoride is poison, but you can’t blame the lawmaker given the information matrix in which we live.

“This is not about fluoride,” said Alvarez, a sponsor of the House version of the legislation. “This is about your liberty.”

No. It actually is about fluoride.

The DeSantis administration has already recommended its removal, citing potential health risks.

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has also railed against fluoride.

But dental groups remain in denial. They argue that fluoride should remain in water supplies for dental-health purposes. They’re for strong teeth and low IQs. Not a position that’s easy to defend if we want to bring this issue down to basic logic.

But we don’t live in a logical world.

Even if fluoride does prevent tooth decay, those who want to poison their children can go right on doing so by simply buying them fluoride-laced toothpaste. They’ll have teeth stronger than a horse with brains as soft as mush.

Most Florida Democrats were opposed to the measure on Tuesday. No surprise there, since the Democrat Party thrives in an atmosphere of low IQs. If people are smart enough to look into Democrat policies, they typically don’t vote Democrat. Dumb them down and keep the Democrat votes flowing. That’s a winning strategy.

Democrats used their fallback strategy, which is to distract from the real issue and stress that banning poisonous fluoride in drinking water would hurt residents who can’t access regular dental care.

They parrot the same tired old talking points.

Democrat State Rep. Daryl Campbell of Fort Lauderdale said:

“For 75 years, fluoridation has been one of the most effective and affordable public health measures in American history. This bill takes a safe and proven and affordable public health tool and rips it away.”

Yeah, and for 75 years American children have been growing up dumber and dumber.

If Governor DeSantis signs the bill, the ban would go into effect on July 1. Florida would become the second state, after Utah, to ban fluoride in drinking water.

Face it, Democrats, the jig is up. People are onto the fact that they and their children have been systematically poisoned by their governments for several generations.

This is progress, of the non-Democrat kind.

DHS Spox Touts ‘Major Success’ In Florida After Nabbing Nearly 800 Illegals In 4 Days

Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin described the arrest records of some illegal immigrants arrested by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as part of “a large-scale operation” during a Saturday evening appearance on Fox News.

Federal, state and local law enforcement carried out Operation Tidal Wave in Florida, arresting nearly 800 illegal immigrants during the four-day operation, according to a post on X by Fox News reporter Bill Melugin. McLaughlin said the sweep was a “preview” of additional operations.

“This was a major success, it was a large-scale operation. And to your point, this is a preview of what is to come throughout the nation,” McLaughlin said. “We have partnerships under 287(g) authorities that Secretary [of Homeland Security Kristi] Noem signed, and this empowers state and local law enforcement to actually be able to use their enforcement authority to carry out immigration enforcement.”

WATCH:

Section 287(g) was enacted in 1996 and allows ICE to delegate certain functions to state and local law enforcement agencies, according to ICE’s website.

“What that means is they can actually make arrests and clean up our streets get these criminal aliens off our streets,” McLaughlin said. “So, like you said, almost 800 aliens including MS-13 gang members, convicted murderers, rapists, all of these people are now off of our streets who otherwise have been acting with impunity and terrorizing U.S. communities. You are going to be seeing this throughout the country, and I think that Americans are going to be really thrilled with the results under this administration in the next 100 days.”

Ramon Ciro Castaneda (Department of Homeland Security)

Among the illegal immigrants arrested were Ramon Ciro Castaneda and Carlos Perez-Perez, members of the Venezuelan prison Tren de Aragua (TdA) and each under a “Final Order of Removal,” according to summaries provided to the Daily Caller News Foundation by the Department of Homeland Security.

“This success and massive operation is a window into what is to come throughout the country for the next 100 days of the Trump administration,” McLaughlin told the DCNF when reached for comment. “Our state and local law enforcement are heroes as we execute on the president’s mandate to secure the border, remove illegal aliens and make America safe.”

Carlos Perez-Perez (Department of Homeland Security)

President Donald Trump issued multiple executive orders to address border security and illegal immigration upon taking office Jan. 20, including designating Mexican drug cartels, TdA and the Salvadoran gang MS-13 as foreign terrorist organizations, while invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to speed up the deportation of members of the two gangs on March 15.

McLaughlin also commented on the Friday arrest of Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan on obstruction charges after she allegedly misdirected ICE agents seeking to arrest an illegal immigrant who had a hearing before her on April 18 before escorting the illegal immigrant out through a back door.

“This is just beyond the pale. I mean, take the Wisconsin judge. The fact she let this individual this illegal alien. American people should know the charges against him more. Strangulation, suffocation, battery, other domestic abuse charges. This is no innocent guy,” McLaughlin said. “As far as the New Mexico case it went beyond just harboring this member of Tren de Aragua.”

“The wife and that judge went so far as to destroy evidence including two photos on this criminal illegal alien’s phone that showed decapitated individuals, he was sending that around,” McLaughlin continued. “They went so far as to take a hammer and destroy this phone so that police couldn’t access this. We are going continue to go after these activist judges, especially in such egregious cases like this.”
