Portuguese National ID’d as Suspect in Brown University and MIT Shootings — After Killing Himself

Curious and curiouser.

Authorities discover that the same man opened fire at Brown university students and also killed the nuclear scientist at MIT — and the Homeland Security secretary says the Portuguese native “never should have been allowed in.”

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed Valente entered US through the lottery immigrant visa program DV1 in 2017. He was later granted a green card. “This heinous individual should never have been allowed in our country,” she wrote.

Brown, MIT shooting suspect ID’d as Claudio Neves Valente — after shooting himself in storage facility

Police have identified former Brown University student Claudio Neves Valente as the gunman in both the fatal shooting at the Ivy League school and the murder of an MIT professor, while also confirming he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Valente, a Portuguese national, was found dead Thursday night following a nearly weeklong manhunt spurred by the shooting Saturday that killed two Brown students, Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez announced at a press conference.

The 48-year-old former graduate student was discovered dead with a satchel and two firearms inside a Salem, New Hampshire, storage facility, where authorities carried out a search warrant around 9 p.m.

FBI Special Agent Ted Docks also revealed that Valente studied in Lisbon with murdered MIT nuclear science professor Nuno Loureiro, 47. The professor was killed on Monday in his $1.4 million townhouse in upscale Brookline, Massachusetts, and cops there announced late Thursday he was shot by Valente.

The two studied together in the same academic program between 1995 and 2000, Leah Foley, the US attorney in Massachusetts, revealed in a second press conference late Thursday.

Valente was then enrolled at Brown University between 2000 and 2001 in a graduate physics program. He primarily took classes at the university’s Barus & Holley building — where he opened fire on students inside a classroom on Saturday, according to Brown University President Christina Paxson.

“It is safe to assume that this man, when he was a student, spent a lot of time in that building,” Paxson told reporters.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed Valente entered US through the lottery immigrant visa program DV1 in 2017. He was later granted a green card.

“This heinous individual should never have been allowed in our country,” she wrote.

“In 2017, President Trump fought to end this program, following the devastating NYC truck ramming by an ISIS terrorist, who entered under the DV1 program, and murdered eight people,” she continued.

She wrote Trump will be suspending the lottery program that allowed Valente to enter the US.

“At President Trump’s direction, I am immediately directing USCIS to pause the DV1 program to ensure no more Americans are harmed by this disastrous program,” she concluded.

On Saturday, the suspect entered the elite Providence university and opened fire in the Barus & Holley building, killing students Ella Cook, a 19-year-old sophomore from Alabama, and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, an 18-year-old Uzbek American freshman.

Nine others were wounded in the barrage of bullets, with six remaining in the hospital on Wednesday.

Authorities were finally able to crack the case open after a man posted on Reddit that cops should investigate a possible rented gray Nissan with Florida plates that he spotted in Providence while having an odd interaction with a man.

Kristi Noem Cuts Age Cap For ICE Agents To Supercharge Trump Deportation Agenda

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem announced in a Fox & Friends interview on Wednesday that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is ending its age cap for officer applications.

Noem encouraged her viewers to apply for positions with ICE. The department is set to expand its force by 10,000, after the passage of President Donald Trump’s “big beautiful” bill in July.

“We’ve removed any of the age barriers, we no longer have a cap on how old you can be,” Noem said. “Our recruitment efforts to hire 10,000 new ICE officers has been extremely successful.”

Noem says that the agency already has “over 80,000 applicants for those 10,000 positions,” and that the amount of “people and patriots across this country that say ‘we want to join, we want to help and be a part of this effort’” is “overwhelming.”

DHS referred the Daily Caller News Foundation to a Wednesday press release that says this decision allows “even more patriots will qualify to join ICE in its mission to arrest murderers, pedophiles, gang members, rapists, and other criminal illegal aliens from America’s streets.”

“In the wake of Biden’s open borders disaster, our country needs dedicated Americans to join ICE to remove the worst of the worst out of our country,” the statement continued.

The 10,000 agent recruitment effort by ICE includes requests for deportation officers, criminal investigators, and general attorneys.

Several additional incentives were also announced alongside the end of the age cap, including a maximum $50,000 signing bonus, student loan forgiveness options and retirement benefits.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin posted on X that this decision signals DHS “heard the American people loud and clear.” ICE shared the sentiment with the comment “you spoke, we listened and we took action,” adding “we must Defend the Homeland.”

The announcement came after Border Czar Tom Homan told Fox News on Tuesday that ICE deported over 300,000 illegals in 2025. The move also follows a massive crackdown on illegal immigration by agents in 2025, with riots against ICE agents breaking out in major cities across the country in response.

Democratic politicians have protested the ICE agents by calling for them to remove face masks during raids, even as ICE agents have faced doxxing and an 830% increase in assaults compared with 2024.

Despite pushback, ICE has made massive strides in exposing and stopping undocumented criminals who slipped under the radar during President Joe Biden’s term.

The family of Mohamed Sabry Soliman, the Boulder attack suspect, have being taken into ICE custody

Crime scene tape blocks off the intersection on Pearl Street as law enforcement officials investigate after an attack on the pedestrian mall Sunday, June 1, 2025, in Boulder, Colorado.

The family of Mohamed Sabry Soliman is being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement today following his arrest in connection with the firebomb attack that injured 12 people on Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall Sunday. U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed the family’s detention in a post to X Tuesday afternoon.

“Today the Department of Homeland Security and ICE are taking the family of suspected Boulder, Colorado terrorist, and illegal alien Soliman into ICE custody,” Noem said. “Mohamed’s despicable actions will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, but we’re also investigating to what extent his family knew about this horrific attack if they had any knowledge of it or provided any support to it.”

Federal and state authorities were continuing to investigate but had said Monday that Soliman’s wife and children were cooperative during a search of his home, and no criminal charges are pending against anyone other than Mohamed Soliman. His wife voluntarily turned in a mobile phone Soliman had left behind on Sunday, containing messages for his family. Soliman told police his family was not involved in his actions.

Soliman faces multiple counts of attempted murder and assault, and a federal hate crime count, with more charges likely to follow. He is being held in the Boulder County Jail in lieu of a $10 million bond.
