Dems’ ‘Project 2029’ May Not Actually Bode Well For Party’s Future

Some Democrats’ latest attempt to develop a winning political agenda to help the party retake the White House in 2028 could be destined for failure.

Former Arizona Democratic Party chair Andrei Cherny is assembling a group of well-connected party members to craft a ready-made agenda, dubbed “Project 2029,” to help serve the 2028 Democratic presidential nominee, the New York Times first reported on Monday. Though, several analysts told the Daily Caller News Foundation that the effort is unlikely to succeed in helping the party win back voters they lost in 2024.

Cherny told the NYT that former Vice President Kamala Harris lost her 2024 White House bid because she leaned into attacking President Donald Trump’s agenda instead of touting her own policies, telling the outlet that “the oldest truism in politics is you can’t beat something with nothing.” Cherny’s project — which some people have already panned on social media — draws similarities to the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, a policy outline and personnel list created to help serve the next GOP president, which Democrats had repeatedly used to attack Trump during the 2024 election cycle.

Cherny could not be reached for comment.

Adolph Mongo, a Democratic political commentator and former journalist, told the DCNF he thinks that Project 2025 is a “fantastic” idea, but likely not attainable.

“Project 2029 is a fantastic idea but unrealistic,” Mongo told the DCNF. “The Democratic Party is fractured. The far left has destroyed the party. Look at New York [City], a socialist Democrat might become mayor. In Detroit, a long time Democratic mayor left the party. Democrats across the country are quitting the party and turning Republican. Their once loyal base is black and brown voters, [who] have abandoned the party.”

Moreover, when asked if he thinks the Democratic Party will be able to successfully persuade voters to embrace their ideas through efforts such as Project 2029, Mongo replied “no.”

“For the last 50 years Democrats have made promises and not were able to deliver them,” Mongo told the DCNF. “Democratic run cities have been left out in the cold. Look at the crime and unemployment in our urban area.”

“The Democrats’ problem is several-fold,” Tom Basile, a Daily Caller contributor and host of Newsmax’s “America Right Now,” told the DCNF. “They don’t have credible messengers to even attempt to convince Americans that the party is capable of governing for the vast majority of Americans. The highest profile members of the Democratic Party are [Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez] AOC, [Independent Vermont Sen.] Bernie Sanders, and now [Democratic New York Assemblyman] Zohran Mamdani – all socialists. Socialism is not compatible with American life and most Americans know that.”

Sanders, the runner-up for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016 and 2020, is not a registered Democrat, but still caucuses with the party in the Senate.

Mamdani on June 2024 notched a surprise win in the New York City Democratic mayoral primary election. Some analysts previously told the DCNF that the socialist’s mayoral primary victory may push the Democratic Party to lean into more far-left policies in future elections.

In the wake of the 2024 election cycle, the Democratic Party has been attempting to strengthen their messaging, amid some party leaders claiming the party brand has become too “woke.” Democrats are also facing various polls showing Americans are largely unimpressed with their leadership.

Additionally, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) is reportedly grappling with rampant intraparty tensions and a drop in major donations this year.

“Delivering a message doesn’t only require a credible messenger, but also money and the DNC is flat broke at this point,” Basile told the DCNF. “Additionally, because this flirtation with socialist policies is now a pattern over several election cycles, any claims on the part of Democrats that they are ready to moderate will be met with tremendous skepticism on the part of the public. This week, every Democrat in the U.S. Senate voted for the largest tax hike in American history.”

Some prominent Democratic leaders have recently been growing their national profiles amid speculation that they are sizing up runs for the White House in 2028. Though, some political strategists previously told the DCNF they are skeptical that several of the prospective 2028 Democratic presidential candidates will be able to reunify the party.

“For nearly a decade, Democrats have said loud and clear to the American people that they care far more about transgenderism, militant censorship, boys playing in girls sports and open borders than making Americans more financially secure,” Basile told the DCNF. “The party has become anti-Democratic and intolerant while doubling down on an extreme fidelity to government programing that has proven to be a failure. The Biden-Sanders Unity platform, from the 2020 campaign and the gaslighting over the border from last year are both prime examples of what looks like an entrenched, radical agenda. That’s clearly not where the nation is ideologically.”

“Donald Trump is the blue-collar billionaire who is speaking directly to the needs of the working men and women of this country and the middle class,” Basile added. “His program of reform and realignment of power away from government systems to the empowerment of people has stolen core issues from the Democrat [Democratic] Party who have fallen back on radical social agendas to motivate voters. In that fight, the Republicans win regardless of what some document concocted by the DNC says.”

Twenty-One Things to Know About Zohran Mamdani—The Democrat Candidate for Mayor of NYC

1. Mamdani is a salon Bolshevik. His mother is Mira Nair, a millionaire movie director. It was Mira Nair who tried to have the actress Gal Gadot banned from the Oscars because she is Israeli.

2. In 2013, Mamdani retweeted an article by Glenn Greenwald which defended the Muslim killers of Drummer Lee Rigby, who used a machete to murder him on a London street, arguing that Rigby was a legitimate target because he was a soldier.

3. Mamdani has repeatedly refused to say that Israel, as the state of the Jewish people, has a right to exist. During an event hosted by the UJA-Federation of New York last month, Mamdani declined to recognize Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state.

He said instead that “I believe that Israel has a right to exist with equal rights for all,” in a “carefully worded response when asked, sidestepping the issue of Israel’s existence specifically as a ‘Jewish state’ and seemingly suggesting Israeli citizens do not enjoy equal rights. Then during a New York City Democratic mayoral debate, he once again refused to acknowledge Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state, sparking immediate backlash among the other candidates.”

4. “In 2023, while speaking at a Democratic Socialists of America convention in New York, Mamdani encouraged the audience to applaud for Palestinian American community activist Khader El-Yateem, saying, “If you don’t clap for El-Yateem, you’re a Zionist.” Apparently, in Mamdani’s view, being a Zionist — supporting the right of Jews to a state of their own — is a terrible thing.

5. Mamdani has called for the defunding of the police. Already the NYPD is greatly understaffed. How, then, will the 8.3 million citizens of New York be protected from street robberies, home burglaries, shoplifters, murderers, rapists, e tutti quanti? Does he have another way of assuring the safety of persons and property? Has he stumbled upon a solution to control crime that no one in history has yet discovered? He should tell us, now, just what his plan is. We’re all ears.

6. Zohran Mamdani has no objection to the chant “globalize the Intifada.” The two Intifadas (“uprisings”) carried on by Palestinian terrorists resulted in the deaths of more than a thousand Israeli civilians. Mamdani is so appreciative of the result that he would like to spread that “Intifada” across our giddy globe. The phrase means only one thing: kill Jews not just in Israel, but everywhere. Mamdani has embraced the slogan.

7. Zohran Mamdani is a stuntman. That is, he has engaged in preposterous performances such as jumping into the East River — or was it the Hudson? — fully dressed in a suit. This kind of thing grabs the attention of the gawkers who like their daily dose of panem-et-circenses, but such stunts tell us nothing about whether Mamdani has either the knowledge or the experience needed to run a city of 8.3 million.

8. Zohran Mamdani has no executive experience. He has been a member of the New York State Assembly, a legislative body, only since 2020.

9. Mamdani has been endorsed by, among others, Senator Bernie Sanders (D-New Left Book Club), Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-Havana), and Linda Sarsour, who has been Mamdani’s most important supporter. She began campaigning for him long before anyone else. She is a Palestinian-American who accuses Israel of “genocide.”

10. Rabbi Yaacov Behrman, a longtime community leader in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and founder of the Jewish Future Alliance, has followed Mamdani’s resistible rise from up close and concludes that “he’s a radical leftist who tweets vile things about the Jewish state and shows no empathy for the Jewish community. I don’t need Linda Sarsour to convince me to be disgusted by his campaign, rhetoric, and behavior. He disgusts me all on his own!”

11. On October 8, 2023, a day after Hamas terrorists attacked Israel, Zohran Kwame Mamdani posted on X/Twitter a message that blamed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli government, and the Knesset for the “ongoing violence in Israel and Palestine.” He never mentioned Hamas. Instead, he wrote this: “Netanyahu’s declaration of war, the Israeli government’s decision to cut electricity to Gaza, and Knesset members calling for another Nakba will undoubtedly lead to more violence and suffering in the days and weeks to come.” Mamdani concluded his post by claiming that “the path toward a just and lasting peace can only begin by ending the occupation and dismantling apartheid.” There was no mention of Hamas. There was no “occupation” of Gaza after 2005. There is no “apartheid” in Israel, where Jewish and Arab citizens have exactly the same political, social, and economic rights. The only difference in their treatment is this: Jewish Israelis must, while Arab Israelis may, serve in the military.

12. Less than a week after Hamas’ atrocities on October 7, 2023, Zohran Mamdani joined a violent protest outside the Park Slope home of New York Senator Chuck Schumer, where participants were demanding that Israel be made to stop fighting. He was arrested.

13. Mamdani started his college’s Students for Justice in Palestine chapter.

14. Mamdani has said that if he became the mayor, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came to the city, he would have him arrested for “war crimes.”

15. Mamdani wants to make New York City buses free. No wonder bus riders in the city voted for him. Such a policy would cost the city annually about $780 million. Mamdani has not explained how he would make up that shortfall. He could increase taxes on the very rich, more of whom will then move out of the city altogether, and perhaps out of state, to Connecticut or New Jersey, shrinking the NYC tax base still further.

16. Free buses would, of course, cause fewer people to use taxis. Taxi drivers would suffer. Mamdani may have forgotten that a large percentage of those taxi drivers in NYC are what the Italian journalist Oriana Fallaci famously called “the sons of Allah.”

17. Mamdani wants to prevent landlords from raising rents. He wants a “rent freeze” on units that already are rent-stabilized. Landlords will then cut back on repairs and improvements on the units they own. Many current landlords will get out of the business altogether, selling properties off to homebuyers. Mamdani’s policy would shrink the number of rental properties available, hurting the very renters he claims to be helping.

18. Mamdani wants to build a series of city-owned grocery stores that will be “non-profit.” With their lower prices, these stores will drive privately-owned grocery stores out of business, leading to “shopping deserts” throughout the city.

19. Mamdani wants to provide “free child care” for all. How many billions of dollars would that cost New York City taxpayers? How many families with large numbers of children would move to NYC in order to transfer the child care burden to the city’s taxpayers?

20. Mamdani wants to raise the minimum wage to $30/hour, nearly double the current minimum wage of $16.50. This measure would lead to job cuts, greater automation, and increased prices for goods and services.

21. Mamdani’s economic plan is a promise of pie-in-the-sky-in-the-sweet-bye-and-bye. No wonder he won. Fire the accountants with their green eyeshades and dire warnings, and bring on the freebies. New York City will become the Big Rock Candy Mountain.

If You Are Not a Communist, It’s Time to Rally Around Eric Adams

Mayor Eric Adams is not great. However, the alternative is catastrophic. All other candidates running for mayor of New York City should suspend their campaign, and get behind Eric Adams. The Marxist and Islamist Zohran Mamdani is dangerous, and must not be elected mayor of the worlds greatest city.

The only way Mamdani wins is by splitting the vote Cuomo, Sliwa, Adams, three ways.

If you are not a communist, it’s time to rally around Eric Adams

By Washington Examiner, June 27th, 2025

The good news from New York’s Democratic mayoral primary on Tuesday is that the career of Andrew Cuomo, the nepo-baby former governor of the Empire State, serial alleged sex pest, and mass murderer of grandparents in Manhattan, is over. Despite the backing of former boss Bill Clinton, six sitting Congress members, dozens of current and former local lawmakers, and the Democratic Party chapters of three of the city’s five boroughs, Cuomo’s loss was staggering enough that he was forced to concede before the night was over. For Cuomo’s dozen sexual misconduct accusers, the 15,000 seniors killed by his 2020 decision to pack nursing homes with COVID-19-positive patients, and the families of both camps of victims, Cuomo’s unalloyed failure in the open primary is a wonderful thing.

The bad news for everyone else is who actually won.

[ … ]

Eric Adams, the incumbent mayor who is running for reelection as an independent, has overseen a 22% decline in homicides, 40% decline in murders, total jobs hit a record high, and the highest number of new homes built in 60 years while supporting both city-wide zoning reform to deregulate the private sector and affordable housing spending in the public sector. While Adams is still a liberal — and why wouldn’t the mayor of NYC be? — he’s running a decent enough agenda that the far Left pushed him entirely out of the Democratic Party.
