Republican Senators Alarmed at the Proposed Deal With Iran

If we are to believe the reports, the deal that Trump is now about to make with Iran will not include the removal from the Islamic Republic of 144 kg. of uranium enriched to a level of 60%, which is just one level below the 90% enrichment which is weapons-grade. (This report, however, does say otherwise.) The Israelis are “deeply concerned” — actually, horrified — at what Trump seems about to sign. The Iranians appear to be running rings around the man who thinks of himself as the world’s greatest dealmaker. But it’s not just the Israelis who are appalled. It’s also Republican congressmen who are openly criticizing Trump.

Among them is Senator Thom Tillis, whose reaction to the latest rumors about a peace deal can be found here: “Tillis slams emerging Iran deal, offers sharp criticism for Hegseth,” by Ian Swanson, The Hill, May 24, 2026:

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) on Sunday added his voice to other Republicans criticizing an emerging peace deal with Iran, saying he would not support it based on his understanding of what it includes.

“It doesn’t make sense to me,” Tillis said of the deal, arguing it was a mistake to leave nuclear material in Iran.

“I’m not too far away from where Pompeo is to be honest with you, and I support what Chairman Wicker says,” Tillis said during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Senate Armed Services Committee Chair Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) are among the current and former officeholders to criticize the emerging deal, which Wicker warned would be a disaster.

The Trump administration has pushed back on the criticism, particularly from Pompeo.

Tillis was also blistering in his criticism of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who he accused of giving bad advice on the war to Trump.

“We were told about 11 weeks ago by Hegseth and Department of Defense that they had obliterated Iran’s defenses and it was just a matter of time before we had the nuclear material. Now we are talking about a posture where we may accept the nuclear material remaining in Iran? How does that make sense at all?” Tillis said….

Perhaps the complaints from such Senators as Tillis, Wicker, Cruz, and Lindsey Graham, all of them considered to be Trump loyalists who have now noisily criticized the Iran deal as they believe it to be, with Wicker calling it a “disaster,” will cause Trump to refuse to agree unless removal of the uranium is included. Why, even his own secretary of state, Marco Rubio, has continued to insist that “removal of the enriched uranium” must be part of the deal. Has Trump now overruled Rubio? Is the president so desperate to open the Strait of Hormuz in order to bring down the prices of oil and food before the midterm elections that he will bow to Iran’s terms?

And it is not just senators who are alarmed. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that what he had learned of the deal made him think of the deal Barack Obama made with Iran. This infuriated the White House Communications Director, Stephen Cheung, who denounced Pompeo in the coarsest possible way. After Pompeo wrote in a post on X that the deal being floated was “not remotely America First. the deal being floated with Iran seems straight out of the Wendy Sherman-Robert Malley-Ben Rhodes playbook: Pay the IRGC to build a WMD program and terrorize the world,” Cheung lashed out, writing in response:

“Mike Pompeo has no idea what the f— he’s talking about. Hek should shut his stupid mouth and leave the real work to the professionals. He’s not read into anything that’s happening, so how would he know.”

What a way for a White House Communications Director to communicate. Cheung needs to have his mouth washed out with soap. Possibly Senator Fetterman could do it. Meanwhile, let us hope that all this criticism from hard-headed Republicans will have an effect on Trump, keeping him from making what right now, from what is known or suspected, looks like a terrible deal.

Lindsey Graham threatens allies with sanctions over Netanyahu arrest warrant: ‘We will crush you’

Lindsey Graham’s warning puts the spotlight particularly on America’s neighbor, the anti-Israel Justin Trudeau and his foreign minister Melanie Joly (who once posted a picture of herself arm-in-arm with jihadist Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas).

The world continues to be divided in two: those in support of the red green axis of evil and those in support of freedom.

Republican South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham wants a forceful response to American allies who might comply with an international court order to arrest Israeli leaders Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for the prime minister and former defense minister for “intentionally direct[ing] attacks against the civilian population of Gaza” on Wednesday. The United States is not a member of the ICC and the Biden administration dismissed the warrants as “outrageous” on Thursday.

The 124 member nations of the ICC could well arrest the Israeli leader and Gaza war architect if they set foot on their soil, a possibility Sen. Graham rebuked in on Friday while stopping by Fox News’ “Hannity.”

“If you are going to help the ICC, as a nation, enforce the arrest warrant against Bibi and Gallant, the former Defense Minister, I will put sanctions on you as a nation,” Graham warned. “You’re gonna have to pick the rogue ICC versus America.”

Graham added that he’s “working with Tom Cotton” on an act that would sanction any nation who aided in the arrest of “any politician in Israel.”…

Trump to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria, says “I’m not siding with anybody”

It is foolish in the extreme, and ultimately self-defeating, to keep troops anywhere indefinitely, with no end point, no plan for victory, no clear goal — that just saps the nation’s resources and produces no good result. Anytime we leave Syria or anywhere else, anti-American elements will do their best to capitalize on our absence. But if the answer to this is to keep troops everywhere, then they will never come home, and we will need to send them into many more countries than those they’re currently in.

That way lies madness. And destruction. What is needed instead is a massive reevaluation of the basic assumptions of U.S. foreign policy, so that our energies, and our armed forces, are directed much more efficiently than they are now to blunting the force of the global jihad. We can hope that with the withdrawal from Syria, that reevaluation is on the horizon.

Washington — President Trump didn’t let intense Republican criticism of his decision to withdraw troops from northern Syria rattle him Monday, insisting he made the right call in deciding to leave the unstable region to Turkey and other actors.

Experts and the president’s own allies like Senator Lindsey Graham fear the decision to withdraw from the region will endanger Kurdish allies there, with Turkey threatening to overwhelm them. Mr. Trump, asked why he’s siding with authoritarian Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan over Kurdish allies, insisted he’s not siding with anyone and is adhering to his campaign promise of “America first.”

“I’m not siding with anybody. We’ve been in Syria for many years. You know, Syria was supposed to be a short-term hit,” the president said in the Roosevelt Room, where he signed two trade agreements with Japan.

The president said he’s leaving the region in the hands of Turkey, Russia, Iran, Iraq and Syria — which is exactly what allies fear. Mr. Trump explained that he campaigned on pulling the U.S. out of needless wars in the Middle East, and noted the worst part of his job is writing to families of American soldiers who died….

Trump: Only ‘stupid people’ are against a ‘good’ but ‘respectful’ relationship with Russia

President-elect Trump has once again showed the world and his supporters that he does not seek confrontation but rather respect for the United States of America. Americans and Westerners have more in common with Russia than with other nations that hate us, for example Iran. A good but respectful bilateral relationship with Russia can open the door to dealing with a common enemy – radical Islam.

In a series of tweets the President-elect once again made it clear to outgoing President Obama, Democrats and some bellicose Republicans that a good relationship is not a bad thing with Russia.

It is clear that President-elect Trump is not caving into the narrative pushed by the Democrats, Obama, legacy media and Republican Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham. The President-elect will not be boxed into a position that is reminiscent of the Cold War era “better dead than red” mindset. The Soviet Union has fallen. Economically Russia is a shadow of the former Soviet Union before its collapse.

Russia’s GDP calculated for purchasing power parity was $3.5 trillion, while Italy’s was $2.1 trillion. So in 2013, Russia had a higher level of economic activity than Italy, but because goods and services are more expensive in Italy, the overall value (nominal GDP) ended up the same. In contrast, the United States is the world’s largest national economy in nominal terms and second largest according to purchasing power parity (PPP), representing 22% of nominal global GDP and 17% of gross world product (GWP). The United States’ GDP was estimated to be $17.914 trillion as of Q2 2015.

In order to make America great again President-elect Trump understands that we must grow our economy, our military and unlike the Obama administration, reengage in the global political arena. Respect comes from strength. Economic, moral and military strength.

If there is a battle to be waged is must be between the free world led by a strong America against those who hate freedom and liberty. That is what it means to make America great again.

The time for this suicidal idiocy is long past. Graham is a presidential candidate? He ought to be laughed off the presidential debate stage, made to resign from the Senate, and barred from ever holding public office again. And if he succeeds in expanding the “refugee” program, he ought to be made to house the increased numbers of “refugees” in his home and Senatorial office.

In the wake of the deadly Paris attacks by ISIS, some GOP presidential candidates such as Ted Cruz, Donald Trump and even Marco Rubio are calling for an end to Syrian refugee resettlement in the U.S.

Most of the others have been silent or vague on the issue of Syrian refugees – about 2,000 of whom have already arrived in the U.S. despite warnings from the FBI that it’s impossible to vet their backgrounds.

But there is one candidate who is clearly on the record wanting more Syrian Muslims to pour into American cities and towns as “refugees,” despite the fact that at least one of the seven attackers in Paris had a Syrian passport and entered France as a “refugee.”

U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who positions himself as a war hawk against ISIS, is co-sponsoring legislation with Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., to nearly double the amount of funding Washington spends on resettling refugees from Syria.

On the day after the multi-pronged shooting and bombing attacks on Paris, which killed 129 civilians and injured 352, Graham pounced again on the theme that ISIS must be attacked at its core in Syria and destroyed, or there would be more attacks on Western cities.

One of Graham’s favorite talking points is, “If we don’t stop them over there, they are coming over here just as sure as I stand here in front of you.”

It’s curious, then, say his critics, that he would be pushing for escalating the importation of more Islamic refugees into U.S. cities and towns from the world’s most notorious hotbed of jihadist activity – Syria.

Graham’s press secretary did not respond to requests for comment from WND.

Without giving a number, Graham has said the U.S. should accept its “fair share” of Syrian refugees.

His bill provides some insight on what that number might be.

According to the Hill, the legislation doesn’t specify how many Syrian refugees should be accepted into the United States but the amount of funding requested would allow for the resettlement of up to 100,000 Syrian refugees over two years, Leahy’s office said.

Even President Obama has never explicitly said this many Syrians should be allowed into the U.S, although that could be his plan given the vague nature of his statements. Obama’s State Department has called for 10,000 Syrians to be admitted in 2016 and “many more” in 2017….
