RFK Jr. Estimates Los Angeles Hospice Scams Cost U.S. $5,000,000,000

Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. told a House committee Thursday that the total cost of hospice fraud in Los Angeles could reach $5,000,000,000.

Independent journalist Nick Shirley, who posted a video in December showing him investigating allegedly fraudulent day care centers run by Somali migrants, posted a similar video looking into reputed hospice companies in the Los Angeles area in March. Republican Texas Rep. Beth Van Duyne asked Kennedy about the reported fraud during a hearing held by the House Ways and Means Committee.

“We had a previous secretary who I asked questions about what was going on with the waste, fraud and abuse, and I don’t know if you recognize this, I asked Secretary Becerra the same question: What’s going on at 14545 Friar Street in Van Nuys, California? Does that, does that ring a bell to you at all?” Van Duyne asked Kennedy, who responded, “No, I, I, I could guess, why don’t you tell me?”

“We had over 100 different licenses for hospices, yep, right at this address, and we asked him what he was doing about it, basically nothing,” Van Duyne replied. “Can you walk through what your office is actually doing on the waste, fraud, and abuse?”

President Donald Trump placed Vice President J.D. Vance in charge of an anti-fraud task force which first met on March 27. The task force suspended federal funding to nearly 450 hospices suspected of fraud in the Los Angeles area.

“We’ve already shut down 500 hospices and Los Angeles, and incidentally, we haven’t had one call from Congress or anybody else about complaining because clearly these were fraudulent. A lot of these places, like you say, they’d have, they were just invented addresses,” Kennedy explained. “It would obtain patient identification or they would pay people, they were going and giving people in poor neighborhoods flat screen televisions, $600 and then they would enlist them and enroll them in the hospice and we were paying them $6000, and the interesting thing is almost none of them ever died.”

“Typically, the stay in a hospice is about 18 days, these people stayed forever. Nothing ever happened because they weren’t actually there, they were just invented,” Kennedy continued. “And it was operated by certain, foreign communities, a lot of Estonians and a lot of Armenians, and there’s an incredibly great Armenian community in Los Angeles and very few of them were involved in this, but the ones that were, were making hundreds of millions of dollars out of fraud and just stealing money from us. I think the cost has been about $5,000,000,000.”

City Journal published a report in November detailing significant welfare fraud in Minnesota, much of it perpetrated by Somali migrants, which some federal officials estimate to total at least $9 billion.

Whistleblowers in Maine and Ohio have alleged that similar schemes by Somali scammers have taken place in those states, while over 500 suspicious day-care centers are being probed by independent journalists in Washington state, which is considering legislation to mask information about child-care establishments.

The FBI foils Los Angeles New Year’s Eve attack plot linked to a radical pro-Palestinian group

The FBI foils a New Year’s Eve attack plot linked to a radical pro-Palestinian group.

i24NEWS — The American federal authorities (FBI) announced that they had foiled a terrorist attack that was being planned for New Year’s Eve in Los Angeles, Fox News reported on Monday. Four individuals were arrested this weekend as part of the investigation, according to statements from the FBI to the American network.

The suspects, who identified themselves as members of a radical branch of the Turtle Island Liberation Front (TILF), an extremist pro-Palestinian group also described as antigovernmental and hostile to law enforcement, are accused of planning to organize a series of coordinated attacks using improvised explosive devices at five different locations in Los Angeles during the New Year’s Eve celebrations.

The Turtle Island Liberation Front (TILF) is a far-left, pro-Palestinian, anti-government, and anti-capitalist group. The FBI has identified TILF as a radical offshoot of the Turtle Island Liberation Front, which is motivated by pro-Palestinian, anti-law-enforcement, and anti-government ideology. The group has been involved in planning >coordinated bombing attacks and has expressed pro-Palestinian messages on social media. The FBI’s investigation into TILF has led to the arrest of several individuals, including those planning coordinated New Year’s Eve bombings in Los Angeles. The group’s goal is to free “Turtle Island,” an Indigenous name used to refer to North America, from the “illegal American empire.”

According to the FBI, the four individuals were apprehended in the Lucerne Valley area, where they had allegedly prepared and tested explosive devices in preparation for these attacks. They have been charged with, among other things, conspiracy and possession of a destructive device.

The authorities also announced the arrest of a fifth individual, who may be linked to the same group, in New Orleans, as part of a separate but related attack plot connected to this extremist movement.

The TILF presents itself as a movement aimed at “liberating Turtle Island,” an Indigenous term used to refer to North America. The group shares messages on its social media that blend anticolonialism rhetoric with slogans such as “Free Palestine, Free Hawaii, Free Puerto Rico.”

At this stage, this information has not been confirmed by other major American media outlets, and the FBI has not issued a detailed public statement beyond what has been reported by Fox News. The investigation is ongoing to determine the suspects’ exact motivations and any potential ramifications.

EXCLUSIVE: California University Confirms Attempts To Shield Illegal Students, Staff From Deportation

California State University, Los Angeles, confirmed to the Daily Caller that they allowing students and faculty to work from home under “extraordinary circumstances” amid heightened ICE activity in the area.

University Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Heather Lattimer sent a letter to faculty this week expressing concerns on behalf of students who are “scared to take public transit and fearful of driving to campus” due to recent immigration raids.

“Recent events in the LA area — including the presence of heavily armed immigration agents in MacArthur Park earlier this week — have left many in our community concerned for their safety,” Lattimer wrote Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Erik Frost Hollins, the executive director of strategic communications, told the Daily Caller in a statement that the university is making “case-by-case” adjustments for students, staff and faculty, allowing them to work from home.

“Faculty are being supported in making case-by-case adjustments for students in extraordinary circumstances,” Frost Hollins said. “Similarly, deans and department leads are supported in making case-by-case adjustments for faculty and staff. These are all individual adjustments we can make within current policy.”

Federal agents swept MacArthur Park in LA this week for an immigration raid, sparking condemnation from LA Mayor Karen Bass. The Department of Homeland Security did not say if anyone was arrested during the raid, but witnesses claim illegal immigrants fled the area after activists with megaphones warned that immigration agents were on their way, according to the Associated Press.

Cal State LA has a student body of over 21,000 undergraduate and graduate students, according to its website.

There have been no reported ICE raids on campus, according to the LA Times.

There is an on-campus “Dreamers Resource Center” which works to support an unknown number of illegal immigrants who attend the university.

University President Berenecea Johnson Eanes released a statement via X last month detailing the university’s commitment to “stand by our immigrant community.”

Eanes is the first female president of the university.

In 2024, pro-Palestinian protesters on the university’s campus entered and barricaded a building with the president inside, causing “significant damage,” according to Hollins.

‘We Will Not Be Intimidated’: Federal Prosecutor Says Those Who Assault ICE Agents ‘Will Go To Federal Prison’

Interim United States Attorney Bill Essayli of the Central District of California vowed Wednesday to prosecute anyone who assaulted United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

Democratic Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles showed up at a location where ICE was carrying out an operation Monday, demanding that the agents leave the vicinity, echoing previous demands from some Democrats that the agency cease its operations in the Los Angeles area as a way to “restore order” in the city after riots broke out following an ICE operation in June. Essayli told “Fox and Friends” guest co-host Griff Jenkins that Bass should have “changed the law” while she was in Congress.

“Let me be very clear what’s going on here,” Essayli told Jenkins. “You have the politicians in California are being openly hostile to the federal government. We are doing our job. We are enforcing federal immigration laws as written by Congress. If Karen Bass didn’t like the law, she should have changed it when she was in Congress.”

WATCH:

“But instead, what she’s doing is she’s signaling to the public that it’s okay to stand up stand up to federal agents to obstruct them, to impede them and some cases, to attack them,” Essayli continued. “This is why the military’s here. It is so critical we have the military protecting our agents. And to Ms. Bass, we will not be intimidated, we will not be deterred from accomplishing our mission.”

Since Friday, gunmen attacked a Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, and an ICE office in Alvarado, Texas.

“When you look at the number of assaults just that my office here at the U.S. Attorney’s office has charged, it’s exploded,” Essayli said. “Almost every day, we are arresting people for assaulting our agents, damaging our vehicles, getting in our way. And then you saw over the weekend in Texas, you have ICE officers and federal agents get ambushed.”

“Officers were shot and you saw 10 people be arrested and indicted by the federal government there. They are escalating their tactics. What they are doing is not working,” Essayli continued. “And so my concern is things are going to escalate and people are going to get hurt. But I want to be very clear. If anybody gets in our way, if anybody touches our officers, you will be arrested, and you will be charged and you will go to federal prison. You can take that to the bank.”

America’s No. 2 School District Stares Into Fiscal Abyss After Years-Long Spending Spree

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) will vote Tuesday on a spending plan for the 2025-26 school year that runs almost $3 billion deeper than its income, pushing the nation’s second-largest school district deeper into a catastrophic financial spiral.

The crisis stems from a toxic combination of collapsing enrollment — down to just 408,083 students, an 11,000-student drop in one year, according to The74, an education outlet — and unsustainable spending commitments that will exhaust all reserves by 2025-26.

“We’re holding firm on the commitment that we did not lay off any employee this year,” LAUSD Superintendent Alberto Carvalho said in June 2024, according to LAist. “We will not lay off any employee next year, there will be no furloughs — we are adamant about protecting our essential programs for kids.”

Carvalho did not respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The spending gap — with revenue standing at $15.9 billion against $18.8 billion in planned spending — can only be covered by depleting reserves, creating an unsustainable trajectory that violates state law. California law requires large districts to maintain minimum reserves equal to 3% of general fund expenditures, meaning LAUSD must keep several hundred million dollars in reserve to remain legally compliant. Current projections show the district burning through reserves until they turn negative, automatically triggering county oversight and potential state intervention, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Board President Scott Schmerelson has warned that enrollment declines have made many of the district’s 785 schools unviable, particularly those with fewer than 100 students that can’t offer adequate programming or cost-effective operations, according to The74. Those schools would either need to be combined or closed, Schmerelson said.

The district has lost 35% of its student body since peaking at 746,831 in 2002, with losses accelerating during the pandemic and continuing despite recovery efforts.

Lower birth rates and an out-migration of young families priced out by soaring housing costs have slashed the pool of school-age children in Los Angeles, Stanford economist Thomas Dee told the Times, adding that remote work has only hastened the exodus.

Adding to fiscal pressures, LAUSD authorized $500 million in settlement bonds in 2024 to address sexual misconduct lawsuits, with about $302 million already paid out in 2023-24, according to LAist. Much of LAUSD’s $18.8 billion budget is already locked into salaries, benefits and retiree health care — including more than $330 million for post-employment medical coverage in 2024, according to the Times.

Despite enrollment losses, the district is also spending $175 million on its Black Student Achievement Plan, $4 million on new immigrant student centers and another $60 million annually to preserve centrally funded aides, the Times reported. The district also previously funded a so-called “Rainbow Club” for LGBT children as young as four.

The crisis extends beyond LAUSD’s borders, with 39 California districts, including San Francisco, currently on state financial watch lists and seven facing potential insolvency, according to EdSource. But Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team CEO Michael Fine noted these problems were “predictable” and should have been addressed years ago.

LAUSD did not respond to a request for comment from the DCNF.

Carvalho’s back-up “fiscal stabilization plan” proposes closing as many as ten campuses, trimming regional offices and eliminating centrally funded aides, savings worth about $1.6 billion over two years but still shy of what is needed to plug the long-term hole.

Absent a windfall or drastic austerity, LAUSD will exhaust its rainy-day reserve before today’s eighth graders graduate high school, according to the Los Angeles Times, setting the stage for a potential county or state intervention and a wave of deferred layoffs the superintendent insists he can still avoid.

Trump Reveals What Would Cause Him To Invoke Insurrection Act To Put Down LA Riots

President Donald Trump said that he would invoke the Insurrection Act in response to the Los Angeles riots if “there’s an insurrection.”

As riots broke out across the streets in L.A. in response to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in the area, Trump ordered 2,000 National Guard troops to deploy to the city. Hundreds of Marines were then deployed to downtown L.A. to help control the riots, raising the question of whether Trump would consider using the Insurrection Act, which allows the deployment of U.S. troops to ease domestic unrest.

“Will you invoke the Insurrection Act to deal with the situation in California?” RealClear Politics White House correspondent Phil Wegmann asked Tuesday.

“If there is an insurrection, I would certainly invoke it, we’ll see. Can I tell you, last night was terrible. The night before that was terrible as you have seen on your networks,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

“People were with heavy hammers pounding the concrete, pounding the curbs and handing these big chunks of concrete to people and they were taking that concrete going up to bridges and dropping it into the roof of a car. They were throwing it at our police. They were throwing it at our soldiers that are there, and we got it stopped and we have them in custody right now. Look, if we didn’t get involved, right now Los Angeles would be burning just like it was burning a number of months ago with all the houses that were lost. Los Angeles right now would be on fire. We have it in great shape. We’re not playing around.”

“How will you determine whether or not there is an insurrection?” Wegmann followed up.

“Well you take a look at what is happening. I could tell you there were certain areas of Los Angeles last night you could have called it an insurrection. It was terrible these are paid insurrectionists,” Trump began.

“These are paid trouble makers. They get money. When you take a look at what they do, when they show up … everyone is like, ‘what is he doing?’ The one guy is pounding the curb, breaking the curb and handing big pieces of granite, in some cases it’s granite, and concrete to other people and running out with it and watch the other people and they try to throw it into the face of the soldiers, throw it into the face of the police and they hurt people badly,” he continued.

The Insurrection Act of 1807 gives the president the authority to use the National Guard and military in order to combat “unlawful obstruction or rebellion” within U.S. borders. It was first signed into law by Former President Thomas Jefferson after it was believed that then-Vice President Aaron Burr was plotting to acquire the Louisiana Territory and other land in the Southwest. Former President George H.W. Bush was the last to use the act in 1992 to quell Los Angeles riots. Before him, Eisenhower used the act in 1957 to enforce school desegregation in the south.

The unrest began over the weekend after ICE agents arrested 100 illegal immigrants, including drug traffickers and gang members, in raids across the city. The protests eventually turned into violent riots where some anti-Trump protesters burned cars and threw Molotov cocktails, rocks and fireworks. Some property was defaced with slogans like “KILL ICE.”

There were nearly 1,000 rioters that descended on the city as they caused damage to federal buildings and assaulted ICE agents, slashed tires and destroyed government property Friday night, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

Group Stoking Anti-ICE LA Riots Tied To Pro-Chinese Communist Millionaire

A socialist group that promoted the chaotic anti-deportation protests in Los Angeles that began Friday is tied to a network of groups bankrolled by a pro-China millionaire.

The Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) spoke out in support of the mob rioting against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) over the weekend, posted to X to call for more action on Sunday and created signs that protesters were seen carrying. The PSL shares personnel overlap with groups funded by American tech mogul Neville Singham, whom The New York Times described in August 2023 as sitting at the center of a “lavishly funded influence campaign” promoting pro-Chinese Communist Party (CCP) propaganda.

“The people of Los Angeles and surrounding areas have taken a courageous stand against [President Donald] Trump’s reign of terror targeting immigrant families,” the PSL said in a Sunday statement. “In response, the administration has falsely labeled those taking to the streets in protest of the brutal war on immigrants as ‘rioters’ and called in thousands of National Guard soldiers for a crackdown.”

Trump mobilized the National Guard on Saturday to quell the riots, which have included crowds blocking traffic, vandalizing property with anti-ICE messages, starting fires and throwing objects at law enforcement in support of illegal migrants. At least 56 people were arrested over the weekend, NBC News reported.

“National Guard go away! ICE out of LA!” reads a Sunday X post from the PSL at 12:45 a.m. that called for “mass mobilization.” The group later posted videos of protesters gathering in the streets with supportive captions, omitting scenes of unrest that reportedly led to more arrests on Sunday. The PSL did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Singham, the pro-China businessman, has donated tens of millions of dollars to the PSL-linked group People’s Forum through various shell organizations since 2017, the New York Post reported. The People’s Forum was founded by Claudia De La Cruz, who ran as the PSL’s candidate for president in 2024 and was a “central committee member” of PSL.

The PSL is not required to disclose its funding publicly. De La Cruz described the organization as “member-funded” in October 2024.

PSL founding member Ben Becker, along with former PSL candidates Karla Reyes and Yari Osorio, have held leading roles at Breakthrough BT Media Inc, a Singham-funded media organization pushing pro-CCP narratives, according to the Network Contagion Research Institute. Breakthrough BT Media Inc’s 2023 tax filings show Becker as editor-in-chief, Reyes as chair, Osorio as treasurer and De La Cruz as secretary.

The DCNF could not reach Singham directly for comment. Thoughtworks, a software company he founded, did not respond to an inquiry.

The People’s Forum did not respond to a request for comment. The group referred to Singham in 2021 as “a Marxist comrade who sold his company & donated most of his wealth to nonprofits that focus on political education, culture & internationalism.”

“I categorically deny and repudiate any suggestion that I am a member of, work for, take orders from, or follow instructions of any political party or government or their representatives,” Singham told the New York Times in August 2023.

The PSL has praised the late murderous dictator Mao Zedong for his communist revolution that established the modern Chinese communist regime. The group also denied the 1989 massacre of pro-democracy protesters by CCP troops at Tiananmen Square, as the Chinese government does.

The group’s social media posts, however, claimed L.A. protesters were resisting “repression” from the Trump administration.

The PSL’s anti-Israel stances and open support for Hamas terrorism came under scrutiny when former PSL member Elias Rodriguez was charged with killing two Israeli Embassy workers in May to make a statement for Palestinians. The PSL deleted an article featuring Rodriguez and said it had “nothing to do” with him after the murders.

Democrats Dug Their J6 Grave, Now Trump Can Bury Them

Violent mobs of masked insurrectionists. Rocks hurled at law enforcement. Foreign flags triumphantly waved around a burning car. These aren’t scenes from a war-torn foreign nation, but from this month’s Los Angeles melee.

Democrats took to social media to express their indignation. Not at rioters, but at President Donald Trump for mobilizing the National Guard to quash the upset. Former Vice President Kamala Harris decried the deployment as a “dangerous escalation meant to provoke chaos.” Recall Harris’ response to the events of January 6, 2021. She praised the “brave officers who defended our democracy” against a “violent assault” by “insurrectionists” in a series of X posts. Democrats gleefully called for the prosecution of January 6 protestors, including a 72-year-old great-grandmother who spent about 10 minutes walking around the U.S. Capitol. The prison sentences and life-ruining misdemeanor fines were a clear message to the American public: “If you share political sympathies with these protestors, you are an enemy of the state.” Now, Trump faces an actual violent mob of insurrectionists hell-bent on defying the law. The left has (inadvertently) delivered Trump the perfect opportunity to secure America’s sovereignty.

Contiue reading.

Gay Choirs, Trans Cafes And Social Justice Art: What LA Spent Money On While Cutting Its Fire Budget

The City of Los Angeles cut funding for its fire department and allocated thousands of dollars to various progressive programs, including a “Midnight Stroll Transgender Cafe” and a Gay Men’s Chorus.

Fires swept through Southern California on Wednesday, destroying hundreds of homes in Los Angeles County, and high winds only fueled the destruction. The Democratic mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, was slammed for slashing the Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LAFD) budget by $17.6 million for fiscal year 2024 to 2025, Fox 11 reported, citing LA City Controller Kenneth Mejia.

Bass claimed in a press conference that none of the reductions made “would have impacted the situation that we were dealing with over the last couple of days.” She added that the city is “in tough budgetary times.”

Los Angeles allocated $100,000 to the Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department for a “Midnight Stroll Transgender Cafe,” according to its 2024 to 2025 budget. The funding’s purpose is to “support a safe haven for unsheltered transgender individuals in Hollywood,” the document noted.

Similarly, the Cultural Affairs Department Special Appropriations budget allocated $100,000 for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Awards.

The budget also appropriated $8,670 for the “One Institute the International Gay and Lesbian Archives.”

The ONE Archives at the University of Southern California (USC) Libraries currently has an exhibit titled “Sci-fi, Magick, Queer L.A.: Sexual Science and the Imagi-Nation,” which focuses on the occult and “the LGBTQ movement.”

The budget also allocated $13,000 for “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Heritage Month Programs” and $14,010 to the “Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles.”

Los Angeles’ African American History Month, American Indian Heritage Month, Latino Heritage Month and Asian American History Month Programs were each allocated $13,000.

The budget also appropriated $170,000 in total for “Social Justice Art-Worker Investments.”

The LAFD was blasted for promoting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, and its 2023 to 2026 strategic plan stated that DEI was one of its “key goals.” A stated priority of the city’s first “LGBTQ” and woman fire chief, Kristin F. Crowley, is “promoting a culture that values [DEI].”

The Daily Caller reached out to the Los Angeles city controller, the city administrative officer and the mayor’s office, but has not heard back as of publication.

‘Excuses Go Up In Flames’: California Dems Paved The Way For Los Angeles To Be Consumed By ‘The Big One’

Southern California was known for years to be vulnerable to potentially devastating wildfires, but Democratic officials did not take sufficient action before proceeding to botch the response to fires currently devastating the Los Angeles area.

Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom failed to follow through on a signature 2019 initiative to revamp the state’s approach to wildfires and neglected to adequately manage wildfire kindling while a key reservoir reportedly sat empty in the lead-up to the fires that have rocked Southern California this week. While there is nuance to these shortcomings, the results of the crisis makes clear that California’s top officials failed to effectively handle a predictable and dire emergency, according to emergency management and policy experts.

“We saw this coming, and we have said, ‘I told you so’ every time there’s been a super fire. This time, the super fire happens to be even more catastrophic, because it’s happening in one of the most densely-populated areas in the United States,” Edward Ring, director of water and energy policy for the California Policy Center, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “It’s the same message, which is that we have neglected our water infrastructure. We have mismanaged our forests and chaparral in the name of environmentalism, and we’re paying the price.”

“Anybody who says this is being politicized should be ashamed of themselves, because every time this happened in the past, the people defending the policies blamed it on climate change, which is a completely politicized issue,” Ring added. “And instead of making the hard decisions that might challenge environmentalist priorities, they did things like outlawing gasoline engines and mandating electric cars. Things like that have nothing to do with land management, they have absolutely nothing to do with the actual problem that needs to be solved.”

Ring said that inadequate use of prescribed burns and the regulation-induced decline of timbering in California have increased the density of vegetation available to fuel fires, making “the whole state a tinderbox.”

Republican Montana Sen. Tim Sheehy, who has fought wildfires in the past, also said in a Wednesday Fox News interview that “the big one” was foreseeable, adding that the devastation unfolding in Southern California is largely attributable to government mismanagement of the emergency. Some forecasts, including those issued by the National Interagency Fire Center and the California Office for Emergency Services, warned that Southern California was at high risk for serious fires in January before the fires began ravaging Los Angeles.

Joe Rogan also recounted in July 2024 that a Southern California firefighter once told him that the area had been fortunate to avoid a massive fire emergency, but that the region’s luck would run out one day when the conditions were right for a devastating blaze that could threaten the entire city.

Newsom launched a $1 billion executive order in 2019 to bolster the state’s preparedness and resiliency for wildfires. However, a 2021 investigation by CapRadio — a California-focused National Public Radio outlet — concluded that Newsom’s administration was falling short on some key facets of the program while embellishing its success publicly. Specifically, the report found that “Newsom overstated, by an astounding 690%, the number of acres treated with fuel breaks and prescribed burns” in forestry projects identified as critical for wildfire preparedness.

The 2019 executive action was taken in response to the Camp Fire of 2018, a massive fire started by downed power equipment that ravaged Northern California and killed 84 people. In response to that fire and others, news outlets and subject matter experts repeatedly pointed out that California’s lax approach to forest management creates danger by allowing fire fuel to accumulate too much.

Additionally, California’s water infrastructure has attracted scrutiny for its role in the ongoing crisis amid multiple reports that fire hydrants in some of the hardest-hit areas failed to dispense water for firefighters battling the flames. A huge spike in water demand reportedly overwhelmed underground water storage tanks and their pumping systems in higher-elevation areas as fires jumped through neighborhoods.

“The Governor is focused on protecting people, not playing politics, and making sure firefighters have all the resources they need,” Izzy Gardo, Newsom’s communications director, said in a statement provided to the DCNF.

The state has dealt with water scarcity issues for years, and it has not built a new major reservoir since 1979 despite major population growth over the same period of time. California also allows billions of gallons of runoff water to enter the Pacific Ocean each year instead of harnessing a portion for use because the state lacks sufficient infrastructure to capture meaningful volumes of stormwater, The Los Angeles Times reported in March 2024.

However, the fire hydrants failing happened primarily because the city’s water infrastructure could not handle a massive demand spike rather than a lack of available water in the wider system, according to Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) CEO Janisse Quiñones. Additionally, a large reservoir in the vicinity of Pacific Palisades — one of the hardest-hit communities — was empty and offline when the fires exploded into a full crisis, The Los Angeles times reported Friday.

In 2014, California voters chose to enact Proposition 1, which authorized a $2.7 billion bond that would be used to fund new water storage, reservoir and dam projects. Not only did this funding fail to result in any new major reservoirs in the state, but officials actually moved in 2022 to get rid of Northern California’s Klamath River dams in order to protect salmon and steelhead.

Newsom announced Friday that he is calling for an investigation probing the factors that led up to fire hydrant failure and the reported unavailability of that articular reservoir.

Rick Caruso, a former Republican candidate for Los Angeles mayor and former head of the LADWP, said in a Thursday interview that there is ultimately no excuse for crucial infrastructure to fail when it is needed most.

“I think that career politicians have making excuses down to a fine art, and you see it rolling out and trying to explain why there wasn’t water,” Caruso said during the interview with Fox 11 Los Angeles. “Nobody wants to hear an excuse for why they lost their home, why they lost their business. The reality is, they were not prepared enough … The preparation just wasn’t right. It wasn’t enough.”

Notably, Quiñones was hired in May 2024 to run the LADWP and take home a $750,000 salary, according to local outlet ABC7. Her salary is significantly higher than that of her predecessor, and the city council said at the time that the compensation increase for the position was meant to attract top-tier talent from the private sector.

Apart from Quiñones, eight of the top ten highest-paid Los Angeles city employees in 2023 worked for the LADPW, according to analysis by OpenTheBooks, a government transparency group.

Other municipal officials have also received sharp criticism for their actions before and during the crisis. As of Friday morning, at least ten people have died, while early projections for total damages from the fires range from about $50 billion to as much as $135 billion.

Democratic Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass was in Ghana when the fires broke out as part of a delegation sent to the country by President Joe Biden. On her way back to the U.S., a Sky News reporter confronted Bass at an airport with basic questions about the disaster, but Bass ignored the questions until she was able to get away from the journalist. (RELATED: Citizens Arrest Arson Suspect Possibly Connected To Los Angeles Fires: REPORT)

Bass addressed the fire in public remarks delivered on Wednesday night in the city, though she received criticism for making a gaffe that indicated her prepared comments had not been adequately edited before she got up to the podium.

Additionally, Bass approved a budget for the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) for the current fiscal year that contained $23 million less than the prior year’s amid ongoing negotiations between the city and the firefighters’ union, according to The New York Times. The city set aside unappropriated cash expecting that a deal would eventually be reached — which eventually happened in November 2024 — before moving the funds over to the fire department’s accounts, with LAFD ultimately receiving $53 million more than last year all in.

Either way, LAFD Chief Kristin Crowley complained about the budgeting issue — including reductions in funding available for overtime pay — in December 2024, writing in a memo that the cuts presented “unprecedented operational challenges ” for her department.

Crowley’s leadership of LAFD has also been scrutinized in light of the unfolding disaster. She took over the top job in 2022, with her official LAFD bio page and media reports touting her sexual orientation as a key credential.

Throughout her tenure atop LAFD, Crowley has emphasized the importance of fostering diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in her department to complement the LAFD’s official 2021 “racial equity action plan” suggesting that a demographically diverse fire department is an effective one.

“Politicians and officials can spin whatever narrative they want to cover their tracks,” Frank Ricci, a former fire department battalion chief in Connecticut who now works as a fellow for the Yankee Institute, told the DCNF. “But, when it comes to emergency management, the brutal truth is this: your preparation is only as good as its performance in a crisis. If your systems fail when they’re needed most, all your excuses go up in flames.”

Representatives for Bass and the LADWP did not respond to requests for comment.

Phillips 66 to Close its Oil Refinery in Los Angeles, CA by end of 2025. Residual result of Newsom’s Marxist Free Market Interference

The Communist dictator of California Gavin Newsom, the poster child for China and Venezuela’s economic policies, a bottom feeding trilobite who kisses the feet of Marxist presidential candidate Kamala “Chameleon” low IQ Harris and the dictator of Communist China signed a price control oil refinery regulation initiative making energy regulators require oil refineries in California maintain a certain level of refined gasoline on hand.

Obviously this law is not required because oil companies in California do this anyway without the need for interference from the Newsom Communist ran government.

This interference in free markets, which is our republic’s bedrock of entrepreneurial spirit called capitalism and risk taking, will soon have severe consequences not only for the citizens of California but will have a significant residual effect on gas prices for the citizens of Nevada and Arizona who depend on refined gasoline from California.

Instead of lowering taxes and eliminating the incredulous regulations regarding so called green initiatives which in itself are the root cause of high gas prices in California, Gavin Newsom instead blames the oil companies for price gouging. Apparently only California suffers this so-called fake price gouging and other Democrat controlled states like New York and New Jersey.

Gavin Newsom is a massive threat to the economic strength and freedoms of all Californians including surrounding states like Nevada and Arizona while the Democrat Communists continue to say that Trump is the real threat to Democracy.

Marxist Democrats do understand the United States is actually a Constitutional Republic not a Democracy but they want to change that ideology and turn us into a third world banana republic they can control starting with energy, the driving force of our country.

Founding Father James Madison made it very clear in Federalist Paper Number 10 we are a constitutional republic but the Democrats with their Marxist indoctrination in our public schools avoid teaching this to our children so it’s up to us “We the people”

The fallout from Gavin Newsom’s interference in free market gasoline production and regulations will have consequences and as I mentioned in past missives oil companies and refineries will shut down and stop doing business in the great state of California.

Call me Nostradamus as my predictions are coming true. Not only did Chevron shut down its corporate hub in California, moving instead to Texas, as I predicted it would, but the oil company Phillips 66 announced on October 16th 2024 it will shut down its Los Angeles oil / gasoline refinery by December 31st 2025.

This notice came out a few days after Newsom signed his Marxist price control oil refinery regulation bill into law because Phillips 66 is rightfully concerned about free markets being strangled. without naming the Newson plan.

“With the long-term sustainability of our Los Angeles Refinery uncertain and affected by market dynamics, we are working with leading land development firms to evaluate the future use of our unique and strategically located properties near the Port of Los Angeles,” CEO Mark Lashier said in a statement.

Closing the oil refinery will impact the loss of 600 full time jobs and over 300 contractors including truckers that deliver l fuel to gas stations with California losing another 8% of its once free market share of refined gasoline with this closure.

Thus, this interference by the Communist Governor Newson will result in job losses and another significant rise in gasoline prices not only in California but also in Nevada and Arizona. Phillips 66 has already closed its refinery in San Francisco costing Californians another 5% of its refined gasoline capacity resulting in more gas price increases in 2023.

Governor Newson also directed the Communist ran California legislator to go after oil companies in the past politically claiming they are making too much money, which translated means free markets, the factors which create wealth and jobs are not welcome in California under this administration.

The Governor of Nevada and Arizona have written a letter of concern to Newson regarding his Marxist price controls and interference in free markets regarding his regulating of oil companies commentating in part:

“We’re concerned that mandating refinery inventory would directly raise the cost of fuel for all of our constituencies and create further economic instability in the region.”

So Governor Newsom is running California like Nicolas Maduro, the installed Communist dictator of Venezuela, a nation my family fled from 6 years ago.

If I was running an oil company in California I would call a group meeting of all oil company CEOs and recommend the total discontinuance of refining ALL gasoline and shut down ALL diesel and gas shipments to gasoline stations in California bringing the economy to a grinding halt until the current Marxist insane government has been removed from office by the voters.

Even millions of illegal immigrants living in the state in violation of congressional law are also contributing to giving California a nice 50 electoral vote count, they can now vote unmolested in California without showing an ID or proof of U.S. citizenship, surely they need gasoline right or perhaps they can ride a bike or walk to the polling station?

Kamala Harris Caught Chanting ‘Down With Deportation’ In Unearthed Video

Recently unearthed video captured Vice President Kamala Harris chanting for the total abolition of deportations during a 2018 Los Angeles parade.

“Up, up with education. Down, down with deportation,” the then-California senator chanted alongside a crowd during a January 2018 parade in Los Angeles, according to video first obtained by the Daily Mail. The footage further demonstrates how Harris, once a staunch opponent of basic immigration enforcement policies, has shifted her tone on the issue since becoming the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee.

WATCH: Kamala Harris Caught Chanting ‘Down With Deportation’ In Unearthed Video

The chant took place at the 33rd annual Kingdom Day Parade, which celebrates the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. Video footage collected by parade organizers that year — which listed her as a “grand marshall” of the event — shows Harris in the same outfit she wore during the chant, confirming the time and date of the aforementioned clip.

Similar to the video of the crowd chant, convicted hate crime hoaxer Jussie Smollett could also be seen in background during her interview with a reporter.

Harris appeared to take a shot at then-President Donald Trump during the interview.

“It feels great to be in LA, to be in California, to celebrate Dr. King, his vision, his spirit — which is alive and well,” Harris said at the time. “And in the midst of time where there are supposed-leaders who are sowing hate and division, it is really important to remember we, as a country, are so much better than that.”

“And it’s not who we are,” she continued.

Harris’ participation in the 2018 parade chant coincided with her opposition to a number of immigration enforcement policies at that time in her political career. When vying for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, Harris was among the majority of candidates who raised their hands when asked if they supported the decriminalization of illegal border crossings.

Harris had also gone on record calling Trump’s border wall a “un-American” and a “stupid waste of money.” In 2019, she pledged her support for taxpayer-funded gender reassignment surgeries for illegal migrants being held in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detainment.

Immediately upon entering office in 2021, the Biden-Harris administration attempted to enforce a 100-day moratorium on most deportations, but that executive order was ultimately blocked in court.

Since President Joe Biden announced he would forgo his quest for re-election, paving the way for Harris to be the Democratic presidential nominee, the vice president has pivoted to the right on a number of issues, particularly immigration. Her campaign has since launched advertisements announcing her support for more Border Patrol agents and depicting her as a hardline border-state prosecutor who cracked down on cartels and gangs.

During an interview with CNN in August, Harris said she believed there should be “consequence[s]” for those that cross the border illegally. When asked by host Dana Bash to explain her apparent flip-flops on border enforcement and other issues, Harris said her “values had not changed.”

The Harris campaign did not respond to a Daily Caller News Foundation request for comment on the 2018 parade video.

As of June 2024, Joan’s LinkedIn profile said she was the owner of Mauro Cafe in Los Angeles, California. Mauro Cafe also goes by Mauro’s Cafe.

As of June 26, 2024, Joan was listed online as the chief executive officer, agent, director, secretary and chief financial officer at R.A.R.M. INC., company number 1774686, registered address: 8112 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, California. The address was the same as that of Mauro Cafe.

As of June 2024, Joan’s LinkedIn said she attended the University of Lille (ULille). ULille is located in Lille, France.

As of the same date, Joan’s LinkedIn said she was located in Los Angeles, California.

6/23/2024 – Verbal Assault of Police at a Pro-Hamas Riot

On June 23, 2024, Joan reportedly participated in a pro-Hamas riot in Los Angeles, California, where she verbally assaulted the police. The riot began as a protest outside the Adas Torah synagogue.

At the protest, Joan was filmed yelling [00:00:01] at the police through a megaphone: “Your mother would be ashame [sic] of you. You’re hitting women…What a shame! Shame! Shame on you!…”

On June 23, 2024, a violent riot broke out outside a synagogue in a densely populated Jewish area in Los Angeles, California. The protest was organized by anti-Israel agitators in response to a sale of “housing projects in all the best [English-speaking] neighborhoods in Israel.” During the protest, anti-Israel activists blocked [00:00:11] access to the synagogue and, later in the day, harassed Jewish residents in their neighborhood.

Spreading Anti-Semitism

A June 24, 2024, Instagram post reported [slide 5] that Joan had spread anti-Semitism. The post documented that Joan refused a customer’s request to host an event “for Jews and Israel” at Mauro Café. Joan told the customer to take the event to the adjacent, predominantly Jewish city of Beverly Hills, implying “THAT JEWS ARE NOT WELCOME AT HER ESTABLISHMENT.”

The incidents occurred during Israel’s war against Hamas, called “Swords of Iron.” Israel launched the war after a series of Hamas terror attacks and war crimes against Israeli civilians, including mass murder, torture, rape, beheadings and kidnappings, which were executed on October 7, 2023. The terror attacks left approximately 1,200 Israelis dead, hundreds kidnapped and thousands wounded.

Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S., Canada, European Union, Israel and other countries. Founded in 1987, it has killed thousands of Israeli civilians through mass shootings and suicide bombings. Hamas has also kidnapped children, families and the elderly and held them hostage in Gaza. It has desecrated [slide 7] dead bodies and launched numerous rocket attacks against Israeli civilians.

JEW HUNTING: Muslims and Their Leftist Running Dogs Roam Jewish LA Neighborhood Attacking Jews

For years, I spoke, wrote, lectured, rallied warning about this very thing. My colleagues and I were smeared, defamed, libeled and relegated to the fringes.

Leftwing Jewish organizations joined the enemy to destroy those working furiously to save them i.e. Jewish group cancels speech by controversial author Pamela Geller (LA Times)

And so, here we are.

A Hamas Mob Roamed an LA Neighborhood Attacking Jews

With the complicity of local Los Angeles authorities.

By Daniel Greenfield, FPM, June 24, 2024:

Some people are calling this a “pogrom”. It was at best a low-level riot against Jews by Islamic terrorist supporters and Antifa with the complicity of local Los Angeles authorities. I have an article with more to say about it, but the videos speak for themselves.

The target was Congregation Adas Torah (Congregation of the Bible) but the pro-terror rally spread out to two adjoining synagogues and then the violence spread out past Kosher restaurants, a Jewish school and to nearby residential streets on both sides of Pico Blvd in the Pico Robertson neighborhood where the Hamas rioters freely attacked Jews.

Some Jewish community members stood up to them.

The LAPD was slow to intervene and generally ineffective. The failure to once again confine the hate mob to a protest zone allowed the violence to continue escalating. This was the same thing that had happened at the Museum of Tolerance and in other instances. Despite the killing of Paul Kessler at a protest where the sides were not separated, LA authorities continue allowing Hamas supporters free access to their Jewish targets.

And after 8 months at some point that can’t simply be dismissed as incompetence.

BIDEN’S BORDER JIHAD: Six Islamic State Terrorists Arrested in Operations in New York, Los Angeles & Philadelphia

So we are waiting for the next 9/11 or Boston marathon bombing or Pulse nightclub massacre etc.

America is in freefall.

Six suspected terrorists with ISIS ties arrested in sting operation in New York, Los Angeles and Philadelphia: sources

By: Jennie Taer, NY Post, June 11, 2024:

Six Russian nationals suspected to have terror ties to ISIS have been arrested in a coordinated sting operation spanning Los Angeles, New York and Philadelphia, The Post can exclusively reveal.

Two ICE sources confirmed to The Post they arrested the six people, who hail from Tajikistan, over the last week after the FBI contacted the agency to warn it.

Part of the investigation featured a wiretap which revealed one of the now-arrested individuals was talking about bombs, the sources said.

“Remember the Boston marathon [bombing]? I’m afraid something like that might happen again or worse,” one of the sources told The Post.

The target who was subject to the wiretap was previously released by federal authorities at the southern border with a court date next year, but it has since emerged he has potential ties to ISIS, sources said.

Neither ICE nor the FBI immediately responded to The Post’s requests for comment.

The arrests come after warnings from FBI Director Chris Wray about possible ISIS terror plots being staged on US soil and the group’s potential for exploiting the southern border.

In April, Wray warned lawmakers that a possible “coordinated attack” could take place in the US following an ISIS-K attack on a concert hall in Moscow — carried out by citizens of Tajikistan — that killed 145 people and wounded hundreds.
