Speaking with American Men: A Strategic Plan (or “SAM”) is the name of the $20 million project Democrats are launching to “study the syntax, language and content that gains attention and virality in these spaces.”
Leave it to the Democrats to spend millions of dollars trying to relate to their fellow Americans and making things incredibly weird in the process. Even The New York Times was forced to admit that Democrats’ plans to court voters sound like “anthropological studies of people from faraway places.”
The average Democrat, it seems, is more in touch with the desires and concerns of “Palestinian freedom fighters” (Hamas) and “asylum seekers” (illegal immigrant Home Depot loiterers and gangbangers) than their fellow Americans — particularly men.
“Men make up roughly half the population. You’d never know if you spoke to a Democrat. They approach men as though inquiring into the habits of an exotic Galapagos species,” my colleague Natalie Sandoval summarized.
Among the new liberal “man sherpas” are Democratic National Committee (DNC) Vice Chair David Hogg and influencers Olivia Julianna — an obese Latinx from Texas — and Micah Erfan, a UVA law student who speaks through his nasal cavity.
All three suggested in recent media appearances that what men really want is cheap housing, government-run healthcare, and limitless abortions so they can focus on quick dopamine hits through one night stands, pornography, sports gambling, and video games. Nowhere in the messaging are masculine virtues like responsibility, purpose, strength, the pursuit of excellence, and courage. Keep ‘em zombified slaves to the government — easier to control that way.
The Democrats do have a male messaging problem. The spokespeople they elevate for the party are decidedly not masculine. They advocate for a greater focus on weird subgroup politics, like Erfan’s insistence in a college op-ed that “the English language needs gender-neutral pronouns.” They don’t understand the appeal of long-form independent podcasts, why they no longer have “a Joe Rogan” (they want to buy one of those, too). And they love to police language and cancel people for holding un-woke opinions, expressing pure disgust at the things you might hear during a typical Saturday golf round while aligning themselves politically with people who self-immolate for Palestine and want to genocide white people.
The problem is less the messaging, though, than the policies. Julianna, in her roundly mocked video with Erfan, insisted that men don’t really care about immigration. Instead, she alleged, they care about scarcity in housing and jobs. Sure, that’s part of the issue, but that’s inseparable from Biden’s illegal immigration crisis. They also care about crime, law and order, social cohesion and basic fairness.
Julianna also claims most men she talks to on college campuses support Black Lives Matter and abortion. The Democrats are apparently completely unaware that people just tell them what they want to hear out of self-preservation — or, in Julianna’s case, to get her to leave them the hell alone. There’s no appetite among men for defunding the police, DEI, ESG, transgender ideology, abolishing ICE, or any of the other wacky schemes cooked up by the left.
It’s pure lunacy for Democrats to think they can spend their way out of two decades of decrying the “patriarchy,” calling masculine ideals “toxic,” and implementing openly discriminatory policies that disfavor white men. It’s the Democrat way, though, to throw money at a problem and consider it solved. Just look at the Inflation Reduction Act and the public education system.
