California Gov Hopefuls Throw Newsom Under The Bus After He Skips A City Where Kids Were Shot

Multiple Democratic California gubernatorial candidates called out Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday evening for not personally going to Stockton after a mass shooting killed three children and one adult.

massacre erupted at a children’s birthday party Saturday evening in Stockton, killing two 8-year-old girls, a 14-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man, and injuring others. Despite the tragedy and media attention, Newsom did not go to the scene.

When asked by KCRA Political Director Ashley Zavala about the governor’s decision, three Democratic gubernatorial candidates and one Republican criticized Newsom’s absence.

“I believe the governor, he should have gone down to Stockton. I exchanged messages with the mayor of Stockton and she told me how horrible this is for her community and the fear of retaliation and what that was going to mean for her and her community. And this is an area in the Central Valley that already feels like their flyover country,” Democrat candidate Ian Calderon said.

“Nobody cares about us. You fly over us. You only come here when you’re campaigning. They can’t continue to feel like that. And they need to know that they can have a relationship with the governor and the state that when something significantly tragic like this happens,” Calderon added.

Democratic candidate Antonio Villaraigosa also answered Zavala’s question, saying he “showed up” during his tenure as mayor of Los Angeles from 2005 to 2013.

“I’ll tell you what I did when I was mayor. I always showed up. I showed up when a cop was shot. I showed up when families lost loved ones,” Villaraigosa said. “Actually, when I was a council member, I went to every single homicide in the two years that I was a council member in my district. When I was mayor, there were too many, but we reduced it to 1950 levels, as I said. But I think it’s important to show up. And I’m not criticizing anyone. I don’t know where he was at. But I could tell you for me, you show up.”

A third Democratic candidate, Betty Yee, emphasized the importance of demonstrating support for a community that has “lost loved ones and lost community members” and starting a conversation about why the incident happened. When Zavala pressed Yee on whether she would have gone to the scene if she were governor, Yee immediately responded yes.

Newsom’s office did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Riverside County Sheriff and Republican gubernatorial candidate Chad Bianco also criticized the governor, questioning why Newsom has not called for an end to the violence or demanded accountability.

“Why isn’t the leader of the state there saying that this absolutely must stop and that the perpetrators will be held accountable? As the governor of California, I absolutely would make sure that I was there. I would make sure that I’m there for the families and we will be doing everything we can to make sure that California is the safest state in the country,” Bianco said.

“This selfishness of our elected officials that they only do things that benefit themselves, and sometimes they don’t have the ability to sacrifice or sacrifice their own ambitions, his vacation or his political speech that he was going to give in another part of the country, because a community in California was suffering, it says a lot,” Bianco added.

According to the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, authorities received reports of a shooting shortly before 6 p.m. and confirmation that 14 people had been struck by gunfire and four were deceased. By Tuesday, the four killed were confirmed as 8-year-old Journey Rose, 8-year-old Maya Lupian, 14-year-old Amari Peterson and 21-year-old Susano Archuleta, with the total number of injured rising to 17, according to CBS News.

Catholic School Shooting Suspect Reportedly Identified, Manifestos Found

Authorities have reportedly identified the man who police say opened fire on children at a Catholic school in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Wednesday before killing himself.

Authorities identified Robin Westman, a man in his early 20s, as the gunman who killed two children while they attended Mass at Annunciation Catholic School, injured 17 other people and fatally shot himself Wednesday morning, local and national news outlets reported, citing law enforcement sources. Videos from a channel bearing Westman’s name were posted on YouTube around the time of the attack, showing disturbing footage featuring multiple guns, cartridges and ammunition with statements written on the weaponry such as “where is your God?” and other ramblings, the Daily Caller News Foundation found.

The videos, which the DCNF saved before they were deleted, show what appears to be Westman filming an array of weapons in a bedroom and writings on paper apologizing to his family. A thumbnail image from a four-year-old video on the channel shows a man whose face matches images of Westman shared by The New York Post.

“I was corrupted by this world and have learned to hate what life is … I have wanted this for so long. I am not well. I am not right. I am a sad person, haunted by these thoughts that do not go away,” a notebook shown on camera reads.

One message written on weaponry in the video said “Guy Bartkus,” an apparent reference to the man who authorities say blew himself up at a fertility clinic in California in May because he believed humans should not procreate. Another name written on a gun was “Rupnow,” the last name of a high school student who opened fire at a Christian school in Wisconsin in December before killing herself.

Other written messages in the videos show a seemingly incoherent mix of racial slurs, a pride flag, calls to kill President Donald Trump, the phrase “kill pedos,” pentagram symbols, and a statement that “6 million wasn’t enough,” apparently referring to the six million Jews killed in the Holocaust. One of Westman’s guns was inscribed, “There is no message.”

Another clip of the footage shows a picture of Jesus Christ on a shooting target, while the words “fuck everything that you stand for” are seen on one of the cartridges.

The suspected gunman did not have an extensive criminal history, authorities said Wednesday, according to FOX9.

The FBI’s Minneapolis office and the Minneapolis Police Department did not respond to the DCNF’s requests for comment.

Serbian Seventh Grader Kills 8 Classmates And Guard In Targeted School Shooting

A 13-year-old boy opened fire at his school in Serbia on Wednesday, killing a security guard and eight classmates and wounding six other students and a teacher, officials say.

Kosta Kecmanovic, a seventh-grade student at Vladislav Ribnikar School, was arrested following a deadly attack police say was meticulously planned, complete with a list of victims the suspect intended to target, The Associated Press reported. Kecmanovic allegedly began his shooting spree by first killing the guard at the Belgrade school and then opening fire in a classroom located near the school entrance, the outlet stated.

Milan Milosevic, whose daughter was in a history class during the shooting, told local reporters she witnessed Kecmanovic firing at the teacher first before the children ducked under their desks, AP reported. Many students reportedly fled the scene by escaping through a back door, officials told the outlet.

After his deadly assault, the suspect reportedly called law enforcement authorities himself before being taken into custody on the school grounds, according to AP.

A classmate of Kecmanovic’s, identified only as Evgenija, told Reuters she would have never suspected the quiet teen was capable of carrying out such a deadly assault. “He was somehow silent, and appeared nice and had good grades. Did not know much about him, he was not that open to everyone. I would never expect that this could happen,” she said, per the outlet.

“I heard noises and I thought some boys, some kids were throwing firecrackers, just for the fun of it, but then I heard that even closer and … then I saw the security guard falling to the ground,” she added, telling the outlet as soon as she realized what was happening, she ran away.

The gun Kecmanovic allegedly used in the attack was licensed to his father. Kecmanovic reportedly knew the code to the gun safe and was able to access the weapon, Interior Minister Bratislav Gasic told AP, adding that the boy’s father had also been arrested.

Serbian Education Minister Branko Ruzic has called for three days of national mourning beginning on Friday, Reuters reported.
