Swing-State Voters Overwhelmingly Trust Trump Over Biden On Pivotal Issues Ahead Of November Election: POLL

Former President Donald Trump is leading President Joe Biden by large margins on key domestic issues across seven battleground states ahead of the November election, a poll released Tuesday evening found.

Trump is trouncing Biden by 20 points on handling of the economy, border security, inflation and the “mental and physical fitness needed to be President,” according to a Wall Street Journal survey among registered voters in Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Inflation and illegal immigration have surged since Biden took office in January 2021, and questions concerning the president’s mental fitness continue to mount.

Swing-state voters also said they trust Trump 14 and nine points more than Biden to handle the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, respectively, according to the poll.

The only issues polled that Biden led Trump on were abortion and “protecting democracy.” Biden was trusted by 12 points more on the issue of abortion, as well as one point on protecting democracy, the survey found.

Trump also led Biden in the poll for a general election matchup by one point in Georgia; three points in Michigan and Pennsylvania; four points in Nevada; five points in Arizona; and six points in North Carolina. The two were tied in Wisconsin at 46%.

When independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr., “Justice for All Party” candidate Cornel West, Green Party candidate Jill Stein and Libertarian Party candidate Lars Mapstead were included, Trump’s leads grew in North Carolina and Georgia, according to the poll.

The former president’s margins stayed the same in Arizona, Nevada and Pennsylvania with the third-party contenders on the ballot, while his lead dropped by one point in Michigan and Wisconsin fell to Biden.

Trump is currently leading Biden in the RealClearPolitics average for 2024 matchups in ArizonaNevadaWisconsinMichiganPennsylvaniaNorth Carolina and Georgia anywhere from 0.6 to 5.2 points.

The WSJ poll surveyed 4,200 registered voters across the swing states from March 17 to March 24 with a margin of error of plus or minus 4%.

Neither the Trump nor Biden campaigns immediately responded to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment.

Trump Ramps Up Black Male Voter Outreach In Crucial Swing States Amid Biden’s Declining Support: REPORT

Former President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign is ramping up its efforts to target black male voters in crucial swing states, The Washington Post reported.

The former president has been making gains with black voters as President Joe Biden has been hemorrhaging support, polls have shown. Trump’s campaign will likely focus on black men who own guns and frequently attend church in order to grow his base, advisers told the Post, who were granted anonymity to characterize private conversations.

Trump has considered several black men as possible vice presidential picks, such as Republican Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina and former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson, individuals who have spoken to Trump told the Post. The campaign reportedly may also attempt to convince voters to stay home as opposed to voting for Biden.

Trump appeared at Philadelphia’s “Sneaker Con”in February  to engage with young voters and launch a line of Trump-branded sneakers called the Never Surrender High-Tops. Although he received some hostile reactions, Trump may do more similar events, campaign advisers told the Post.

“Crooked Joe Biden and his campaign are trying to gaslight and distract from the fact that Black Americans are turning their back on their destructive policies,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung told Newsweek in February. “By contrast, President Trump delivered policies for Black Americans like passing criminal justice reform, fully funded HBCUs [historically black colleges and universities], created Opportunity Zones, and lowered Black unemployment.”

MAGA Inc., one of the primary super PACs boosting Trump, unveiled a three-week radio ad initiative focusing on black voters in Georgia, Pennsylvania and Michigan, Axios reported. One ad criticizes Biden for prioritizing “transgender equality,” and asserts that the president does not appreciate black voters.

“This is a first step in a sustained effort to reach every voter, in every corner in America,” MAGA Inc CEO Taylor Budowich told Axios. “[V]oters who traditionally vote Democrat are switching their support to Trump because they want a secure border, growing economy, and safe communities.”

Only 21% of black registered voters believe Biden’s policies “helped [them] personally,” compared to 23% who said the same of Trump’s, a New York Times/Siena College poll found.

Biden secured 87% of the black vote in 2020, compared to Trump’s 12%, according to Edison Research’s exit polls. The president’s lead with this demographic has dropped to 79% as Trump’s has risen to 19% according to a February Quinnipiac poll.

“Nobody thinks we are going to win the Black vote,” a Trump adviser told the Post. “But if you get 10 percent more, the election is over.”

The Democratic Party has bled nearly 20% of its black support over the course of  Biden’s tenure, according to Gallup polling data published in February. Democrats’ 47% lead over Republicans with non-Hispanic Black adults is the lowest the party has had since 1999,

“This is part of Donald Trump’s path to victory; this is why he’s leaning in so hard,” Democratic polling and analysis firm HIT Strategies CEO Terrance Woodbury told the Post. “There’s about 32 percent of the Black electorate that’s just cynical, frustrated, closest to the pain, and that voter doesn’t like Democrats or Republicans. They feel like they’ve been failed by both sides and they’ve been failed by a system. And that’s a part of Donald Trump’s ‘the system is broken’ message that appeals to them.”

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Trump Unveils New $399 ‘Never Surrender’ Footwear At ‘Sneaker Con’ Following $355 Million Ruling Against Him

Former President Donald Trump made a surprising appearance Saturday at Philadelphia’s “Sneaker Con,” a renowned sneaker convention, to engage with young voters and launch a line of Trump-branded sneakers, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

The event was held at the Philadelphia Convention Center. The launch of Trump’s footwear was marked by a mix of reactions, with Trump facing both cheers and boos as he unveiled the Never Surrender High-Tops. “There’s a lot of emotion in this room,” Trump said.

Priced at $399, the gold high-tops were adorned with an American flag motif. The launch also included the promotion of Trump-branded “Victory47” fragrances that retail at $99, according to the AP. The sales of these sneakers and fragrances are facilitated through a website which explicitly denies any affiliation with Trump’s campaign efforts. Trump campaign officials, however, have been actively promoting the event through various online channels, according to the outlet.

The sneaker event attracted a polarized audience, with Trump’s detractors and supporters voicing their stances through boos and chants, respectively, according to the outlet. Social media users and influencers also chimed in.

Others expressed support; one user uploaded a video of fans chanting, “We Want Trump” at the event.

This marketing venture unfolds against a backdrop of legal and financial challenges for Trump, the AP reported. A New York judge recently imposed a $355 million penalty on Trump, citing years of deceit surrounding his wealth to secure favorable deals from banks and insurers. This financial setback is compounded by an $83.3 million judgment Jan. 26, 2024 in favor of E. Jean Carroll, who accused Trump of sexual assault and defamation.

One pair of the autographed shoes reportedly fetched $9,000 during an auction.

Voters Are Increasingly Ditching The Democratic Party For The GOP In Crucial Swing State

Democratic voters in the battleground state of Pennsylvania are increasingly leaving the party for the GOP ahead of the 2024 election.

Pennsylvania, which has picked the winner of the presidential election for the last four cycles, has lost over 35,000 of its Democratic voters to Republicans this year, according to Dec. 18 data released by the the state’s Department of State. Conversely, only 15,622 of the state’s Republican voters became Democrats in 2023.

Additionally, roughly 20,900 Democrats and 18,900 Republicans have withdrawn from both major political parties, according to the state data.

In 2016, Pennsylvania narrowly broke for former President Donald Trump, where he beat Hillary Clinton by less than one point. The state swung back to the Democrats in 2020 when Biden won 50% to 48.8%.

The RealClearPolitics average for a 2024 hypothetical rematch between the two in Pennsylvania suggests Trump is currently leading Biden by one point. The former president is also leading Biden in several other crucial battleground states, like GeorgiaArizonaNevada and Michigan.

Pennsylvania also features a critical Senate race on the ballot, as Democratic Sen. Bob Casey seeks reelection. The senator will likely have to face Republican David McCormick next year for the seat that The Cook Political Report currently characterizes as in the “Lean D” category.

Recent polling largely suggests that Casey, who has held the seat since 2007, has an advantage in the race, as he’s beating McCormick anywhere from six to 15 points, according to FiveThirtyEight’s survey compilation.

“Current voter registration trends and polling in Pennsylvania should be setting off alarms for President Biden and Democrats at the state and national level,” Erik Telford, the Commonwealth Foundation’s senior vice president of public affairs, told Newsweek, who first reported the numbers.

However, Pennsylvania still has nearly a half million more Democratic voters than Republican voters ahead of 2024, according to the state data.

Neither the state’s Democratic or Republican party immediately responded to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment.

Uh Oh: Trump Surges Past Biden In Swing State Polls

Former President Donald Trump appears to have an advantage against President Joe Biden in 2024 among key battleground states in the 2020 election, according to a Friday poll.

The states that had the narrowest margin of victory for either candidate last cycle were Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, with Biden winning all but North Carolina. Across those key swing states, Trump is ahead of Biden 41% to 35%, and 24% of voters remain undecided, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.

Among independent voters, the former president also held a slight advantage over Biden, according to the poll. Trump received 32% support among independents compared to Biden’s 30%, and 38% were undecided. Uncertain voters favored Biden over Trump at 49% to 38%.

Biden and Trump are tied at 39% for a hypothetical head-to-head matchup in 2024, according to the survey. Many voters said they were concerned over the president’s age, as well as the economy and crime.

An overwhelming majority of voters at 77%, including 65% of Democrats, think Biden is too old for another term, and only 39% believed he had enough mental acuity for the job, according to the poll. Nearly 90% of respondents said crime would be a large determining factor of who they vote for, and 73% said the economy is the same or worse now than it was prior to the pandemic.

The RealClearPolitics (RCP) average for a 2024 national Democratic and Republican primary, based on the most recent polling , indicates Biden and Trump are leading their respective fields with 67.8% and 56.6%, respectively.

The Reuters/Ipsos poll surveyed 4,413 adults nationwide between Sept. 8 and Sept. 14, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2%.

Neither Trump nor Biden immediately responded to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment.

Pennsylvania Lawmakers Look To Investigate Gender Clinic’s Use Of Taxpayer Dollars On Trans Training

  • The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services gave the Gender and Sexuality Development Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) nearly $177,000 through three years to host workshops for mental health providers on how to “affirm” transgender and gender expansive clients.
  • Several Pennsylvania Republican lawmakers are criticizing taxpayer dollars being spent on the gender clinic and are planning to discuss the use of the funds with the state Appropriations Committee, they told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
  • “It’s so outrageous and it’s just another smack in the face for taxpayers to know that they were footing the bill for some of this,” Republican state Rep. Dawn Keefer told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Pennsylvania Republican lawmakers are calling out a gender clinic that used thousands of taxpayer dollars to train mental health providers on how to “affirm” transgender and gender expansive clients.

Over three years, the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) granted the Gender and Sexuality Development Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) more than $176,000 to create a series of webinars and in-person trainings for mental health providers called the “Transgender Therapy Training Workshops,” the Daily Caller News Foundation revealed. Diverting taxpayer dollars towards the gender clinic and its transgender trainings for mental health providers is “outrageous” and must be investigated, Pennsylvania Republican lawmakers told the DCNF.

“I’m going to look into this personally and to talk to our appropriations chair,” Republican state Rep. Dawn Keefer told the DCNF. “I’m not on the Appropriations Committee, so I didn’t participate in any of the hearings for appropriations, but this absolutely has to be discussed as we’re appropriating dollars, again, for human services and an agency, who always comes to us for more money. They’re looking for money for services that they are required to cover. It’s just irresponsible that they’re digressing into everything outside of their scope.”

The seminars included in the “Transgender Therapy Training Workshops” teach mental health providers that children learn their gender identity after having “access to more resources and can use new language to describe their gender.” Someone’s transgender status is “confidential” and should not be disclosed unless the individual gives permission to do so, according to the CHOP trainings.

CHOP’s gender clinic provides medical transitioning interventions to children, prescribing puberty blockers to kids as young as eight. The  clinic has referred kids as young as 14-years-old for cross-sex surgeries such as mastectomies or breast construction.

The gender clinic’s employees have promoted such procedures, in addition to hormones and puberty blockers for children.

“[Republican state] Senator [Scott] Martin is adamantly opposed to the use of taxpayer dollars to support extremist gender identity policies for children – something he has been fighting in the General Assembly for quite some time,” Jason Thompson, Martin’s spokesman, told the DCNF. “Even though the grants in question are fully funded by the federal government, the state should not play a role in supporting a program that encourages kids to move forward with life-altering decisions like gender reassignment surgery when they are too young to make that kind of choice.”

In the 2018-2019 fiscal year, CHOP was awarded $45,283 through the state’s “Community Mental Health Services Block Grant” for the workshops, which in total trained 821 mental health providers.

In the second year of the program, the state gave CHOP $51,966 to hold the workshops and to pay the partial salaries for two of the gender clinic employees. Through the 2019-2020 fiscal year, CHOP suggested to DHS that the workshops focus on several topics including “legal transition, medical transition, working with couples, working with schools, individuals in addiction and co-occurring Autism.”

In the 2020-2021 fiscal year, CHOP was granted $79,446 which resulted in 520 mental health providers being trained.

“It’s so outrageous and it’s just another smack in the face for taxpayers to know that they were footing the bill for some of this,” Keefer told the DCNF.

CHOP has provided at least 33 trainings in 15 schools since 2017; CHOP provided a training to Southern Lehigh School District in 2021 which advised educators to allow students “room for exploration” of their gender. In 2022, a Pennsylvania school district donated $1,200 to CHOP to provide professional development sessions which taught K-12 educators how to create “gender inclusive and affirming educational environments.”

“I can speak from my district and my feelings for the state in these issues, taxpayers do not want to fund this type of, as they term it, health care,” Republican state Rep. Barbra Gleim told the DCNF. “I will also be opposing any type of appropriations to this type of mental health care. We just need to make [the taxpayer] aware that their tax dollars are going towards gender reaffirmation or gender transitioning, and if that’s not okay with them, they need to let everybody know, so that we can legislate properly.”

Pennsylvania Department of Human Services and Gender and Sexuality Development Program at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia did not immediately respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.

Planned Parenthood And Rachel Levine Partnered Up To Peddle Cross-Sex Hormones, Emails Show

  • Planned Parenthood, now a major provider of cross-sex hormones, collaborated with Rachel Levine and several LGBT groups and gender clinics while establishing programs to administer hormones, according to emails obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
  • Levine’s assistant connected the local Planned Parenthood affiliate with a transgender clinic to set up an observation and learn about operations and the referral process, and other members of Levine’s Transgender Health Working Group celebrated the clinic’s eventual administration of hormones.
  • “Trans-identifying kids are cash cows, and they are kept on the hook for the foreseeable future in terms of follow-up appointments, bloodwork, meetings, etc., whereas abortions are (hopefully) a one-and-done situation,” a former “reproductive health assistant” for a Planned Parenthood clinic previously told Abigail Shrier.

Planned Parenthood collaborated with now-Assistant Secretary for Health Rachel Levine, along with gender clinics and LGBT groups, in its effort to provide cross-sex hormones at its clinics, according to documents obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Levine, who was acting secretary of health for Pennsylvania in 2017, ran a working group of medical providers and LGBT activists called the Transgender Health Working Group, which included representatives from Planned Parenthood, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) gender clinic and the Mazzoni Center. Levine’s office played an active role in connecting a local Planned Parenthood affiliate with transgender clinics throughout the year it began offering hormones, documents obtained through public records requests show.

The collaboration was part of a broader push from Levine’s office to promote cross-sex treatments that coincided with a meteoric rise in state funding for the procedures, including for children. Six years later, Levine is now a high-ranking Biden official with power to steer federal policy on health care.

“This is such a dangerous ideology, far from any form of health care or medical science,” PA Family communications director Dan Bartkowiak told the DCNF. “Anyone responsible for overseeing the push for more children permanently harmed by these drugs and irreversible surgeries should not be in public office, let alone be given promotion to higher office.”

Levine’s secretary, Sarah Boateng, coordinated with Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania (PPSP) in February 2017 to arrange an observation session at the Mazzoni Center, a Philadelphia-based group offering cross-sex medical treatments, in order to learn about operations and referrals for clinics offering hormones, according to the emails. PPSP had worked with other Planned Parenthood clinics offering hormones, but it was particularly interested in learning from Mazzoni because of its high volume of patients, according to the emails.

“We’re still crossing our fingers about Mazzoni. The volume of daily trans heath [sic] visits at a PP affiliate is low and we fear we’d go and only see a visit or two,” the PPSP worker wrote in the email to Boateng.

By July 2017, PPSP had begun offering hormones at two Pennsylvania clinics, and Levine had visited their offices ahead of the launch, according to the emails.

“Staring this month two Planned Parenthood locations will offer transgender health services, a location in Center City Philadelphia and a location in Pottstown, PA,” Boateng wrote to the working group on July 7. “Dr. Levine and I had a chance to visit their Philadelphia location prior to the launch and we very impressed with the significant planning, training and care they took in developing their program.”

Levine responded that it was “great news” that the Planned Parenthood clinics had begun administering hormones, and CHOP gender clinic co-founder Linda Hawkins offered to collaborate with the group in the same thread.

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) Gender and Sexuality Development Program offers medical interventions for children seeking gender transitions as young as eight years old, including surgical referrals at age 14. The clinic also partnered with schools in the state to train teachers to use children’s preferred pronouns and keep gender identity issues hidden from parents.

The exact extent of PPSP’s growth in patient visits following this collaboration remains unclear, although its website states that there’s currently a six to eight month wait list for new “gender-affirming care” patients.

PPSP has a policy against prescribing hormones to minors because it requires mental health services and sometimes legal services, although they are considering offering hormones to those under 18 in the future, according to their website.

PPSP continued its involvement with Levine’s LGBT working group throughout 2017, and the group was slated to appear at least four meetings that fall, along with LGBT advocacy groups and gender clinics including the CHOP clinic and the Mazzoni Center, according to emails reviewed by the DCNF. Discussion topics for these meetings included physician training guidelines, appropriate signage within clinics, policy on transgender military participation, “Transgender 101” and “Penn State Hershey – increased access.”

Planned Parenthood is now one of the largest providers of cross-sex hormones in the U.S. A former “reproductive health assistant” reported that the small town Planned Parenthood clinic she worked at saw one to two teen girls each day seeking cross-sex hormones, and that gender transitions for young people brought in more consistent long-term revenue than abortions, according to journalist Abigail Shrier.(RELATED: ‘Paranoia’: Transgender Gun Community Features Fears Of ‘Genocide’, Mental Illness)

“Trans-identifying kids are cash cows, and they are kept on the hook for the foreseeable future in terms of follow-up appointments, bloodwork, meetings, etc., whereas abortions are (hopefully) a one-and-done situation,” she told Shrier.

Planned Parenthood’s national and local offices have focused intensely on transgender issues in recent years, with a particular focus on opposing state-level restrictions on children’s cross-sex medical procedures.

Click here for PAFamily.org infographic: Pennsylvania’s Rise in Taxpayer-Funded Reassignment on Children

Levine’s tenure in the Pennsylvania government ran from 2015 to 2021, during which state spending on cross-sex medical procedures for those 18 and under rose about 5,000%, according to public records obtained by the PA Family Institute. Levine helped bring this to fruition by collaborating with various groups to successfully block state legislation that would have blocked taxpayer funding for child sex changes in 2017.

“The sad reality is, from 2015 to 2021, Pennsylvania saw a nearly 5000% increase in spending on ‘gender-affirming’ care for children 18 and under. That’s evidence of a priority being made by our state officials to harm children with this type of dangerous ideology,” Bartkowiak told the DCNF.

Levine’s time in President Joe Biden’s Department of Health and Human Services has been similarly marked by a push for child gender transitions, including official guidance endorsing cross-sex biomedical interventions, such as surgeries, for children.

Levine, Planned Parenthood and PPSP did not respond to the DCNF’s requests for comment.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A statewide mask mandate for Pennsylvania schoolchildren was thrown out by the state Supreme Court on Friday, raising the prospect that at least some students in the state may soon be allowed to attend classes without a face covering.

The justices announced their decision to invalidate the Wolf administration’s statewide mandate for masks inside K-12 school buildings and child care facilities but did not issue a written opinion that explains their reasoning.

They upheld a lower-court decision that the mandate was imposed by Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf’s acting health secretary without legal authorization. The practical impact of the decision will depend on what the justices say in the written opinion or opinions they will issue in the case and which schools and school districts impose their own masking requirements.

The court took action amid a statewide surge in new infections and hospitalizations. Pennsylvania is reporting an average of 7,571 infections per day, up over 20% in two weeks. Hospitalizations have risen 55% since mid-November, to an average of more than 4,000 per day, and acute-care facilities are becoming overwhelmed.

Wolf press secretary Beth Rementer described the decision as “extremely disappointing.”

“The administration recognizes that many school districts want to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for students and staff, and we are hopeful they will make appropriate mitigation decisions moving forward,” Rementer said.

She urged districts to prioritize health and safety, calling masks “a proven and simple way to keep kids in school without interruption and participate in sports and other extracurricular activities.”

The justices upheld a Commonwealth Court ruling that Alison Beam, the acting state health secretary, lacked authority to require masks, did not follow state laws about enacting regulations and acted without a required existing disaster emergency declared by the governor in place.

The lower court found Pennsylvania’s disease control law does not give health secretaries “the blanket authority to create new rules and regulations out of whole cloth, provided they are related in some way to the control of disease or can otherwise be characterized as disease control measures.”

“The decision will be left to the 500 school districts in Pennsylvania, with respect to what to do with the implications of this order,” said Thomas W. King III, a lawyer for the Republican lawmakers, school districts, schools and parents who sued to challenge it.

King, who has advised against mask mandates, said school boards will have to consult their own lawyers about what policy to now adopt. As of the end of July, 59 of 474 school districts submitted plans to the state Education Department that mandated masks for the current school year.

“This is a great day in Pennsylvania for the rule of law,” King said. “The Supreme Court has proved that no one is above the law, and that includes the secretary of health or the governor.”

The decision comes just two days after the high court heard oral arguments in the case.

The lawsuit was filed by Senate President Pro Tempore Jake Corman, R-Centre; state Rep. Jesse Topper, R-Bedford; two religious schools; three public school districts; and several parents of schoolchildren.

Beam’s actions, the litigants argued, left the public unable to voice their opinions and the General Assembly unable to review the policy’s legality or necessity, and violated state law.

The attorney general’s office, representing Beam, told the court earlier this week there does not appear to be anything to prevent schools and school districts from issuing their own masking orders.

The mask mandate took effect in early September. Wolf announced in November he intends to return authority over masking decisions to local school districts in January, but will continue to require masks in child care centers and early learning programs.

‘Brave Warriors’: Trump Hails SEAL Team 6 For Successful Hostage Rescue

President Donald Trump hailed SEAL Team 6 for its successful rescue of an American citizen taken hostage in Nigeria on Saturday, saying the kidnappers “wished they’d never done it.”

The U.S. military announced the successful operation Saturday, saying the American citizen, Philip Walton, had been taken hostage for less than a week before the U.S. special forces unit rescued them, killing six of seven kidnappers.

Trump made the comments during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, hours after first praising the special forces unit on Twitter.

“Last night, our Country’s brave warriors rescued an American hostage in Nigeria,” he tweeted. “Our Nation salutes the courageous soldiers behind the daring nighttime rescue operation and celebrates the safe return of yet another American citizen!”

Neither the U.S. service members nor Walton were injured in the operation, according to the Pentagon.

Officials said local gang members kidnapped the Walton, who the military described as a farmer, from his backyard in Niger and planned to hold him for ransom. U.S. officials also said they feared the gang would sell Walton to terrorist groups operating in the region, according to CBS News.

“U.S. forces conducted a hostage rescue operation during the early hours of 31 October in Northern Nigeria to recover an American citizen held hostage by a group of armed men,” Chief Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said in a statement Saturday. “This American citizen is safe and is now in the care of the U.S. Department of State.”
