Mamdani Has Already Run Out of Other People’s Money

New York City’s democratic socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani has already run out of other people’s money, and he’s only been in office for four months.

Color me shocked.

Mamdani announced in a press conference Wednesday that New York City facesopens in a new tab a financial “crisis of historic magnitude” and asked the City Council for extended time to submit his budget. What a surprise that the young mayor is late to turn in his first big homework assignment.

Mamdani is correct that he faces a huge problem, though. The city’s budget deficit over the next few years is projected to rise to about $12 billion.

To put that number into perspective, New York City’s deficit is bigger than the entire budget of about a dozen states.

Mamdani blamed this financial calamityopens in a new tab on his predecessor, Mayor Eric Adams, of course.

You can be sure that New York Democrats will return to the “blame Adams” well for some time given that they practically threw him out of the party for opposing President Joe Biden’s open border policies.

Adams does deserve some of the blame. So, does the entire New York City political apparatus—which is notably bereft of Republicans. But this reality is hardly an endorsement of Mamdani’s platform, at least for those not totally bought into the socialist flim-flam sauce he’s selling.

Mamdani never said he’d reduce his predecessor’s spending, far from it. Instead, his entire campaign was built on giving new, “free” things away. Free childcare, free buses, and government-run grocery stores were all at the top of Mamdani’s agenda. All that free stuff doesn’t come cheap.

Mamdani’s excuse for why he can’t afford to fund all these programs is that the city doesn’t collect enough money. Keep in mind, the New York City budget is larger than that of nearly every state in the unionopens in a new tab, despite having a much lower population than many.

That’s still not enough to fund Mamdani’s grandiose proposals.

“Years of mismanagement and chronic under budgeting, alongside a structural imbalance between what New York City sends to the state and what we receive in return, have taken a toll,” he said, insisting that the problem was one of “revenue.”

In a sense this was all part of the plan. Mamdani spent his first months messaging aboutopens in a new tab how he was frantically searching for money to give to you, the people. Finding nothing, he’ll now seek to do more of what he spoke about gleefully on Tax Day: tax the rich. Or at least say he’s taxing the rich while actually squeezing money out of everyone.

He’s also clearly angling to get a bailout from New York State.

New York City is nearly tapped out, but surely there are more people to soak elsewhere. Unfortunately, the state is running on fumes. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has been reduced to begging rich former New Yorkers living in Florida to please come back to pay for all the fraud, er, I mean wonderful government programs.

This has created an interesting dynamic where Hochul is forced to play a push and pull game over money with a mayor who is quite popular with the Democratic base.

But even in a scenario in which Mamdani gets some kind of bailout from Albany, the future of what was once the financial capital of the U.S. is looking murky.

Mamdani is refusing to take his foot off the spending gas. His further plans put even the previous high revenue in jeopardy. And people are leaving. The “rich” certainly have been, but recent trends show that pretty much every demographic has been fleeingopens in a new tab the state as of late (besides the hordes of Biden’s immigrant “asylum” seekers).

The Citizens Budget Commissionopens in a new tab, a nonprofit think tank, did a study on New York City and found that after the post-COVID-19 influx of immigrants the Big Apple continued its trend of population decline.

This reality is even more dire when one considers that the people leaving typically have more taxable wealth than those arriving.

“Net domestic outmigration not only affects population, but also the taxable income that stays in New York,” the Citizens Budget Commission study read. “Not all income earned by NYC residents moves when they move, but some does. Furthermore, per capita income indicates that in-movers typically earn less than out-movers. Between 2019 and 2023, New Yorkers who moved out made $68 billion more than those who moved to New York City. This includes a shift of $14 billion to Florida, $2 billion to Texas, and $23 billion to other parts of New York State.”

That leaves Mamdani and his fellow Democrats trapped in an ongoing turf war over who they are allowed to pillage.

As New York City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino—one of the few Republican officials left in the city—said in an interview with talk show host Glenn Beck, Mamdani’s ideas to get more money are “insane.”

The reality for Mamdani and his friends in the city council is that their larger budget problem can’t be solved with a short- or long-term bailout or tax gimmicks to milkopens in a new tab every last dollar out of businesses that may not be around much longer.

There’s more than one layer to the 11-count indictment for wire fraud, bank fraud, and money laundering that a federal grand jury issued Tuesday against the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). Underneath the political drama lies a simpler, more biblical interpretation to unearth. In essence, the SPLC lies, and it has used its lies to enrich itself at the expense of both innocent third parties and the country as a whole.

Political thespians will choose to read the situation in terms of political drama alone. Here is yet another episode in the second Trump administration’s campaign of political retribution. The twist is, this time the Trump administration’s target is an unsympathetic adversary who richly deserves every spoonful of calumny heaped upon it. Let the spigots’ unsolicited opinions spew forth!

If we only manage to hold our heads above the torrent of outrage sloshing odorously through the airwaves, then we shall be so much filthier but none the wiser. Let us then salvage what facts we can and extricate them from the flood of political opinion, that we may better examine them in the purer light of God’s Word.

“The story here is that the SPLC, which bills itself as an organization aimed at rooting out racism, was actually secretly bankrolling major figures in racist groups such as the Ku Klux Klan, the National Socialist (i.e., Nazi) Party of America, and a member of the leadership group that planned the 2017 “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Va.,” National Review’s Dan McLaughlin summarized concisely.

“The indictment details just shy of $2 million in transfers to those figures over the past twelve years,” McLaughlin added. “Given the small and marginal nature of these groups, the obvious conclusion is that the SPLC found that demand for racism outstripped the supply, so it had to spread cash around to keep talking up these fringe groups.” Furthermore, “this wasn’t just a matter of paying the small fish in these groups to rat out the big ones. The SPLC was allegedly bankrolling the leaders.”

Thus, while the SPLC was “holding itself out to be promoting justice,” said Associate Deputy Attorney General Aakash Singh on “This Week on Capitol Hill,” “what they were really doing was deceiving the American people, deceiving their donors, and deceiving financial institutions, all to promote … fake racism throughout the country.”

Two facts offer the clearest evidence that the SPLC realized what they were doing was wrong. First, they funneled payments to their “informants” through shell corporations that existed only on paper. Second, when caught, SPLC’s Interim President and CEO Brian Fair announced, “We no longer work with paid informants.”

Of course, no conservative with previous experience of the SPLC’s malevolence was surprised by the revelation that an organization that habitually smears mainstream conservative organizations as hate groups is willing to lie.

Where the indictment broke new ground was in exposing the unseen double-face of the SPLC — with one half condemning “hate” while the other half bankrolled it. “For years, the SPLC has used its platform to label and target organizations with whom it disagrees, often blurring the line between legitimate concern and ideological attack,” exclaimed Family Research Council President Tony Perkins. “That kind of reckless characterization doesn’t just damage reputations, it has put lives at risk.” In 2012, a gunman inspired by the SPLC “hate map” opened fire at FRC headquarters in Washington, D.C., an incident for which the SPLC has never apologized nor been held accountable.

Thus, Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.) spoke for most when she said on “Washington Watch,” “I have known for a long time that SPLC was a fraud, but I never had the understanding that they were the ones that were creating their own straw men so that they could knock them down.”

Those are the facts. Now, before we catch cholera, let us haul them out of the political muck to assess these actions in the clarifying light of God’s Word.

The question that presents itself to our minds most forcefully is: why would anyone do something like this? The Bible’s book of wisdom offers an answer: “Whoever hates disguises himself with his lips and harbors deceit in his heart” (Proverbs 26:24). However, this only leads to further questions. How is hatred connected to deceit? And, if the SPLC harbored hatred, who was the object?

Perkins attempted to answer those questions by describing how the SPLC has changed from being a civil rights organization targeting racists to a left-wing organization targeting conservatives. “They were creating these groups and propping them up so that they could raise more money — but there seems to be more to that,” Perkins suggested. “They were raising these groups up, elevating them, making the threat look great, and then taking conservative organizations and putting them alongside them. And then the corporate America actually took this labeling that the Southern Poverty Law Center had and began to deplatform, ‘cancel,’ other conservative organizations.”

Thus, by presenting a false front as an “anti-hate” group, the SPLC managed to harmfully smear the groups it hated — anyone who dared to stand for conservative principles. The irony is too apparent to miss: the organization that popularized the “hate” label also harbored what they condemned.

What were the consequences of the SPLC’s lies? Once again, Proverbs provides an answer, “deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil” (Proverbs 12:20). It’s hard to describe what the SPLC did as anything other than “devising evil.” Even the SPLC publicly condemned the fringe extremist organizations whose leaders they secretly bankrolled.

This duplicitous behavior was “predatory,” said Singh. “They were actually propping all this up by paying these sources to go out and incite racial acts, all while holding themselves out to be the arbiter of who is right and wrong in the public speech space.”

For the SPLC to hold itself out as a moral arbiter, despite the corruption it knew within, suggests that it suffered from delusions of invincibility, like the wicked oppressor in Psalm 10. “As for all his foes, he puffs at them. He says in his heart, ‘I shall not be moved; throughout all generations I shall not meet adversity.’ His mouth is filled with cursing and deceit and oppression; under his tongue are mischief and iniquity” (Psalm 10:5-7).

From within this delusion of invincibility, the SPLC plotted to fraudulently destroy its political opponents. “Your tongue plots destruction, like a sharp razor, you worker of deceit” (Psalm 52:2).

Sadly, the SPLC’s deceitful schemes caused harm not only to its political opponents but to the nation as a whole. “They have done such lasting and horrific damage to race relations,” Hageman exclaimed. “They have torn us asunder with false allegations of racism and hatred and danger.”

It’s too early to say what might result from the federal indictment — what new evidence may emerge, what charges may be added or dropped. But it is clear that the SPLC’s public credibility has suffered a major blow from the exposure of its cynical fundraising ploys.

Such eventual accountability for the SPLC tastes like yet another proverb, “Bread gained by deceit is sweet to a man, but afterward his mouth will be full of gravel” (Proverbs 20:17). The reason is that, ultimately, the true arbiter of right and wrong, truth and falsehood holds court not in any human jurisdiction but in heaven. To the ultimate Judge, David prayed, “You destroy those who speak lies; the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man” (Psalm 5:6).

However, not everyone has learned the same lessons from the SPLC’s exposure. Those who prefer to float in the bilge water of politics never gain the perspective necessary to compare its practice to biblical wisdom. As a result, “I’m seeing organizations out there still defending this group,” said Hageman, when “everybody should be running from SPLC right now.”

As just one media example, USA Today claimed that the SPLC was only employing informants in “a tactic federal agencies have used for decades.” But “it wasn’t somebody who was an informant [in an extremist group]; it was people leading it,” Perkins countered. “Many of these organizations have been dead, and [the SPLC] resurrected them with their funds.”

For such indefensible behavior, the SPLC now must publicly answer.

This moment provides relief for those who found themselves innocent targets of the SPLC’s malicious hate. These unfairly smeared groups can now declare, “Let not those rejoice over me who are wrongfully my foes, and let not those wink the eye who hate me without cause. For they do not speak peace, but against those who are quiet in the land they devise words of deceit” (Psalm 35:19-20).

Perhaps human justice will hold the SPLC accountable. In any event, God certainly will.

Democrats Beclown Themselves by Defending SPLC Amid KKK Funding Scandal

The Southern Poverty Law Center, which makes its money by exaggerating “hate” to scare donors and by comparing conservatives to the Ku Klux Klan, was itself funding Klan members—and now major Democrats are beclowning themselves by defending it.

Like a dog returns to its vomit, so Democrats return to the ridiculous claim that the SPLC is some sort of noble civil rights group and that to attack it is to attack America’s soul.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., claimed that the Justice Department’s indictment against the SPLC is “turning what America’s all about inside out.”

He noted that “in 1983, the Ku Klux Klan tried to burn down the Southern Poverty Law Center for daring to oppose its hatred.”

“More than four decades later, the Trump administration is trying to do the same thing in the courtroom,” Schumer said.

That’s a powerful line, but is it true?

Schumer didn’t address the specific charges in the indictment—six counts of wire fraud, four counts of bank fraud, and one count of conspiracy to conceal money laundering. Nor did he address the allegations that the SPLC didn’t just pay $3 million to a set of “informants” in white nationalist and neo-Nazi groups, but actually directed racist social media posts and helped bring more people to the white nationalist “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville in 2017, paying the very same extremists it highlighted on its website.

The Democrat merely dismissed the idea as laughable.

“It has nothing to do with alleged wire fraud, with the Southern Poverty Law Center somehow working in coordination with the KKK,” Schumer said. “That’s ridiculous on its face! It doesn’t pass the laugh test.”

If the good senator has any evidence the SPLC did not fund KKK members, I’d love to see it. The claim is extraordinary, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t true. The SPLC hasn’t denied it—the group has merely argued that it was funding “informants” in order to protect victims from potential violence.

Doug Jones

Doug Jones, a former senator from Alabama, also condemned the indictment as “pure political retribution,” casting the SPLC as a noble group “seeking justice on behalf of individuals and communities who cannot seek that justice themselves.”

He noted one of the SPLC’s legal victories in the early 1980s and claimed, “It is absolutely ridiculous to think that they were raising money in a fraudulent way simply because they did not disclose publicly all of the tactics they were using in trying to … dismantle” white nationalist groups.

As for “paying informants,” Jones noted that “those are the tactics used by law enforcement every day.” He added, “I know firsthand that the Southern Poverty Law Center in the years past have given this information, and shared this information with local law enforcement and the FBI.”

Jones served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Alabama from 1980 to 1984, and he returned to that district as U.S. attorney from 1997 to 2001.

While it stands to reason that the SPLC’s paid informants program dates to the 1980s—when the center faced a violent attack from the Klan—Jones could not have known “firsthand” about the SPLC’s informant program from 2014 to 2023, the period in the indictment.

Not Your Daddy’s SPLC

That’s ultimately where so much of the Democrats’ defense of the SPLC falls apart. Sure, in the 1970s and 1980s, the SPLC did a great deal of noble work.

The thing is, the SPLC’s fundraising strategy focused on fighting the KKK, and the center eventually ran out of grand dragons to slay. It repurposed its Klanwatch program to the broader “Hatewatch,” and started putting mainstream conservative and Christian groups on a “hate map” with largely defunct Klan chapters.

The early SPLC represented poor people in the South—it even represented white people in a reverse racism case. But today’s SPLC routinely smears conservatives, and the “hate map” has inspired real violence.

In 2012, a terrorist targeted the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C. He later told the FBI that he used the “hate map” to target FRC. Last year, the SPLC added Turning Point USA to the “hate map.” A few months later, Tyler Robinson allegedly murdered Charlie Kirk, saying he had had enough of Kirk’s “hate.”

The SPLC has entered into information sharing with Antifa agitators through a mediator. One of its lawyers was arrested in 2023 at a Molotov cocktail riot. The group repeatedly covers for Antifa, Black Lives Matter, and Jane’s Revenge.

It’s high time Democrats like Schumer and Jones wake up and smell the Molotov cocktail fumes. This isn’t their daddy’s SPLC. It’s a scandal-plagued left-wing smear factory that lost all credibility long ago and has now been publicly revealed for the farce it has been for decades.

The list of SPLC scandals sounds like something out of Mad Libs: racial discriminationopens in a new tab, sexual harassmentopens in a new tab, offshore accounts, inspiring terrorism, union-busting, transgender ideology, critical race theory, ties to Antifa, demonizing concerned parents, and anti-Christian bias. If you want a reason to distrust the SPLC, pick your poison.

Anyone promoting SPLC as a noble civil rights group should reckon with its considerable baggage—and it’s only gotten worse since I wrote the bookopens in a new tab about it in 2020.

Truth matters. Especially when a nation is at war.

Too often, however, the truth is the first casualty. Americans have seen this before. They are seeing it again.

I know this landscape. From inside the national security establishment, I watched from the Pentagon the months leading up to the March 2003 invasion of Iraq. A narrative hardened — Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction and posed an urgent, immediate threat. That narrative was false. The war it justified cost 4,418 American lives, another 31,994 wounded and trillions of dollars, and reshaped U.S. foreign policy for a generation.

That is not ancient history. That is institutional memory the United States is obligated to apply.

Let me be clear: Iran is not an innocent actor. For decades, Tehran has functioned as the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, funding Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis. I saw firsthand in Iraq how Iranian-backed forces killed hundreds of American service members. The regime is dangerous. I argued as much in Fox News Digital after Israel’s June 2025 strikes on Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan.

Recognizing a threat is not the same as justifying a war.

That is where the question of truth becomes central.

The Trump administration’s core case for attacking rested on the claim that Iran was racing toward a deployable nuclear weapon. The intelligence record is inconsistent with that claim. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee on March 18, 2026, and when Senator Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) asked directly whether the intelligence community assessed Iran as posing an “imminent nuclear threat,” Director Gabbard deflected: “The only person who can determine what is and is not an imminent threat is the president.” More striking, her written testimony stated Iran’s nuclear enrichment program had been “obliterated” after last year’s strikes and that there had been “no efforts” to rebuild it — language she omitted from her oral remarks. When pressed, she cited time constraints. That explanation raises more questions than it answers.

The intelligence community’s 2025 annual threat assessment said plainly that Iran was “not building a nuclear weapon.” Trump envoy Steve Witkoff told Fox News in February 2026 that Iran was “probably a week away from having industrial-grade bomb-making material.” Those two positions cannot both be correct. The American people deserve to know which one their government believed before launching this war.

I argued in Fox News last summer that while the June 2025 strikes inflicted significant damage on Tehran’s nuclear infrastructure, the program was not eliminated. That assessment has held. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi confirmed this past week that Iran retains the knowledge, the material, and the industrial capability to rebuild. Strikes can delay a program. They cannot erase the scientists, the expertise, or the dispersed uranium stockpile—much of it buried beyond the reach of any bomb in the American arsenal.

The role of allied intelligence in shaping this conflict also deserves honest examination. Israel is a close partner and, as I have argued before, a vital ally. But shared interests are not identical interests. Intelligence assessments from allied services have been wrong before—the lead-up to the Iraq War demonstrated that conclusively. Israeli concern about Iran’s nuclear trajectory clearly drove pressure for military action. Acknowledging that is not anti-Israel. It is pro-American. Our responsibility is to make decisions based on American national interests, independently evaluated.

The war itself is expanding in ways the administration’s opening statements did not anticipate. As I wrote for Fox News last week, the U.S.-Israeli air campaign has struck more than 15,000 targets, wrecked Iran’s navy, and reduced Tehran’s ballistic missile launches by 90%. Those are real battlefield achievements. But the Strait of Hormuz — the chokepoint through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s daily oil supply moves — is now heavily restricted and actively contested, and oil has surged above $100 a barrel. Even as diplomacy is discussed publicly — including reports of a multi-point proposal from Washington — Iran denies that meaningful talks are underway. The precision munitions being consumed in this campaign will take years to replace. Every Tomahawk fired over Tehran is one less available for the Taiwan Strait.

Now the Pentagon is deploying two Marine Expeditionary Units to the region — the 31st MEU from Japan aboard USS Tripoli and a second unit from Camp Pendleton — placing roughly 4,700 Marines trained for amphibious assault within striking distance of Iranian coastal targets. In addition, elements of the 82nd Airborne Division — America’s rapid-response ground force —are now moving into the region, further expanding potential options beyond air and naval operations. The president says he is not putting troops on the ground. That may be true today. But the deployment of amphibious and airborne forces capable of seizing key terrain is not a symbolic move. It introduces exactly the contingency the president has repeatedly said he intends to avoid.

The war has been ongoing for nearly a month. The battlefield results are real. The strategy is not. Is the objective to degrade Iran’s military capability? Neutralize its nuclear program? Open the Strait? Force regime change? Each of those goals carries a different cost, a different timeline, and a different measure of success. The administration has not answered those questions publicly. Calling that “messaging” is too generous. It is opacity dressed in press briefings.

Military force can weaken a regime. It cannot govern the vacuum that follows. Strikes can destroy facilities. They cannot engineer political succession, resolve factional competition inside a fractured regime, or guarantee that what replaces the Islamic Republic serves American interests. I made that argument on Fox News last summer. Nothing in the past three weeks has changed it.

The American people are not getting a clear, honest account of what this war is for, what it will cost, or how it ends. They were not given that account in 2003, either. We have been down this road before. The obligation is not to walk it blindly again.

Just the News reported this week that the U.S. intelligence community has known since early 2020 that Beijing also gained access to American voter registration data and used that information to conduct opinion analysis related to the presidential election between Trump and then-former Vice President Joe Biden.

Chinese government election influence efforts in the 2020 election

This is not the only piece of evidence pointing to Chinese government election influence efforts in the 2020 election. Although much about China’s activities in 2020 remains classified, Just the News conducted a thorough review of publicly-available intelligence assessments, federal indictments, foreign government warnings, and cybersecurity firm analyses.

There is credible evidence that Chinese government-linked cyber hackers and Chinese social media troll farms took aim at the U.S. presidential election in 2020 and sought to undercut Trump during his run against now-former President Biden. There are also indicators that Chinese intelligence and law enforcement agencies — China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS) and its Ministry of Public Security (MPS) — also played a role in 2020.

Zulauf — a longtime intelligence officer — wrote in his January 2021 report: “Given analytic differences in the way Russia and China analysts examined their targets, China analysts appeared hesitant to assess Chinese actions as undue influence or interference. These analysts appeared reluctant to have their analysis on China brought forward because they tended to disagree with the Administration’s policies, saying in effect, I don’t want our intelligence used to support those policies.”

Zulauf discussed his report on a podcast later that year, where he quoted an analyst working on Chinese interference efforts as having essentially said that “I don’t want my analysis going to the White House where that vulgarian … in the White House will use it to pursue policies toward China with which I personally disagree.”

An article in the Journal of Intelligence Conflict and Warfare recounted a 2023 speech by Zulauf, who said that the intelligence analyst was quoted as saying that “I don’t want my intelligence going to the White House where it will be used by that vulgarian in the Oval Office to support policies against China with which I personally disagree.”

“Dr. Zulauf went on to point out the various errors in this way of thinking — intelligence belongs to the community, not a single analyst, and further, while analysts are entitled to like or dislike particular leaders, they are not entitled to allow that to alter the intelligence products that they put forward,” the journal article said.

The review by Zulauf also found that allegations of Russian meddling and Chinese meddling were being measured based on differing standards, meaning Russia may have taken actions that were determined to be influence or interference efforts while, if and when China took the same or similar actions, those Chinese actions likely would not have been determined to be influence or interference efforts.

“Due to varying collection and insight into hostile state actors’ leadership intentions and domestic election influence campaigns, the definitional use of the terms ‘influence’ and ‘interference’ and associated confidence levels are applied differently by the China and Russia analytic communities,” Zulauf wrote in his report.

The ombudsman found that “the terms were applied inconsistently across the analytic community” and that “failing to explain properly these definitions is inconsistent with Tradecraft Standards.”

“ODNI officials engaging with policymakers said that these customers did notice the result, particularly differences in the volume, frequency, and confidence levels of the intelligence coming from the China and Russia analytic communities on activities that, from their perspective, were very similar in their potential effects,” Zulauf added.

The analytic ombudsman noted that multiple national intelligence officers wrote an “Alternative Analysis Memo” in October 2020 “which expressed alternative views on potential Chinese election influence activities.” Zulauf said that “these alternative views met with considerable organizational counter pressure” but that then-DNI and now-Director of the Central Intelligence Agency John Ratcliffe agreed with the dissenting alternative views which argued that China had in fact attempted to influence the 2020 election to undercut Trump’s candidacy.

The ODNI’s National Intelligence Council (NIC) released its intelligence community assessment on foreign threats to the 2020 election in March 2021, with ODNI saying that the majority view was that China did not ultimately try to meddle in the 2020 election, while the minority view — led by the national intelligence officer for cyber and other teams — said the Chinese did try to influence the election to hurt Trump’s reelection prospects.

“We assess that China did not deploy interference efforts and considered but did not deploy influence efforts intended to change the outcome of the U.S. Presidential election,” the ODNI said. “We have high confidence in this judgment. China sought stability in its relationship with the United States, did not view either election outcome as being advantageous enough for China to risk getting caught meddling.”

The majority view stated that “the IC assesses that Chinese state media criticism of the Trump administration’s policies related to China and its response to the COVID-19 pandemic remained consistent in the lead-up to the election and was aimed at shaping perceptions of U.S. policies and bolstering China’s global position rather than to affect the 2020 US election.”

“We assess that Beijing’s risk calculus against influencing the election was informed by China’s preference for stability in the bilateral relationship, their probable judgment that attempting to influence the election could do lasting damage to U.S.-China ties, and belief that the election of either candidate would present opportunities and challenges for China,” the majority view said. “Beijing probably judged that Russia’s efforts to interfere in the 2016 election significantly damaged Moscow’s position and relationship with the United States and may have worried that Washington would uncover a Chinese attempt to deploy similar measures to influence or interfere in the election and punish Beijing.”

The majority view also said that “China probably also continued longstanding efforts to gather information on U.S. voters and public opinion; political parties, candidates and their staffs; and senior government officials” but argued that “we assess Beijing probably sought to use this information to predict electoral outcomes and to inform its efforts to influence U.S. policy toward China under either election outcome” and that “Beijing did not interfere with election infrastructure.”

The national intelligence officer for cyber at the time, Christopher Porter, assessed with others that the Chinese had indeed tried to undercut Trump in his reelection race.

“The National Intelligence Officer for Cyber assesses that China took at least some steps to undermine former President Trump’s reelection chances, primarily through social media and official public statements and media,” the ODNI assessment said of the “moderate confidence” assessment. “The NIO […] assesses that some of Beijing’s influence efforts were intended to at least indirectly affect U.S. candidates, political processes, and voter preferences, meeting the definition for election influence used in this report.”

“This view differs from the IC assessment because it gives more weight to indications that Beijing preferred former President Trump’s defeat and the election of a more predictable member of the establishment instead, and that Beijing implemented some — and later increased — its election influence efforts, especially over the summer of 2020,” the assessment concluded. “The NIO assesses these indications are more persuasive than other information indicating that China decided not to intervene.”

Over the past year, many of my articles and radio interviews have focused on a new and rapidly growing set of dangers in the digital world.

Artificial intelligence is advancing at breathtaking speed. Organized scam networks are stealing billions from families and seniors. Online predators are exploiting social media, gaming platforms, and messaging apps to target children.

These threats are evolving faster than most people realize.

As I continued reporting on these issues through the Patriot Majority Report, the Shout Out Patriots podcast, and national radio interviews, it became clear that these stories were all part of a much larger picture.

That is why I have decided to bring this work together under a new initiative called the Digital Intelligence Project.

The goal of the Digital Intelligence Project is simple: to track, analyze, and expose the emerging threats taking shape in our digital world.

The project focuses on three areas where technology is rapidly changing the landscape of risk.

Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence may become the most transformative technology of our lifetime.

AI promises breakthroughs in medicine, science, and communication. But it also raises profound questions about manipulation, surveillance, economic disruption, and the concentration of technological power.

The Digital Intelligence Project monitors these developments and works to explain what they mean for everyday Americans.

Online Scams

Cybercrime has exploded into a global industry.

International scam networks now use sophisticated technology, psychological manipulation, and increasingly even artificial intelligence to target victims. Seniors and families are particularly vulnerable.

By exposing the tactics these criminals use, the Digital Intelligence Project aims to help Americans recognize and avoid these traps before they become victims.

Digital Predators

The internet has created extraordinary opportunities for education and connection. But it has also opened doors for predators who exploit anonymity and technology to target children.

Gaming platforms, chat apps, and social media have become hunting grounds for criminals who understand how to manipulate young users.

Raising awareness about these dangers is one of the most important parts of this initiative.

Why This Project Matters

Technology has always changed society. But the speed and scale of change today are unprecedented.

Artificial intelligence can now generate convincing images, voices, and videos. Scam networks can target thousands of victims simultaneously. Predators can hide behind anonymous digital identities.

U.S. And Ecuadorian Forces Launch Joint Strikes On Narco-Terror Targets

American and Ecuadorian military forces launched joint strikes against narco-terror targets in Ecuador on Tuesday, U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) announced.

The joint operations target Designated Terrorist Organizations within the country, the U.S. announced in a press release. SOUTHCOM described the operations as a “powerful example of the commitment of partners in Latin America and the Caribbean” to partner with the U.S. in combatting narco-terrorism.

“Together, we are taking decisive action to confront narco-terrorists who have long inflicted terror, violence, and corruption on citizens throughout the hemisphere,” the press release stated. SOUTHCOM also posted the announcement on X, along with video of soldiers being deployed.

President Donald Trump designated several cartels as terrorist organizations on the first day of his second term in office, which the administration has used to justify military strikes in the Caribbean.

On March 3, Ecuadorian and U.S. military forces launched operations against Designated Terrorist Organizations in Ecuador. The operations are a powerful example of the commitment of partners in Latin America and the Caribbean to combat the scourge of narco-terrorism.

Marine Gen. Francis L. Donovan commended the Ecuadorian armed forces “for their unwavering commitment” to the fight against drug trafficking.

“We commend the men and women of the Ecuadorian armed forces for their unwavering commitment to this fight, demonstrating courage and resolve through continued actions against narco-terrorists in their country,” he stated.

The strikes come less than a week after Trump announced Operation Epic Fury in Iran, hitting nuclear and military targets alongside the Israeli military. Both operations are part of a series of recent U.S. military and law enforcement campaigns conducted with regional partners.

Americans Are Continuing to Flee Blue States for Red States, Census Data Show

Newly released census data has revealed that the trend of a mass exodus from states controlled by Democrats to states run by Republicans is continuing. Census Bureau population estimates indicate that the five fastest-growing states are red, while four of the five states that are facing a shrinking population are blue.

As noted by the National Review editorial board Monday, the data show that since 2020, the U.S. has added about 10.3 million people, only 1.9 million of which were natural births over deaths. The remaining 8.3 million constituted immigrants. “[T]he notion of a future in which we add four new immigrants for every net increase of one homegrown American is alarming,” the editors observed.

The census estimates further demonstrated that states run by Democrats (with one exception) continue to lose residents. The only five states that suffered losses in population were Vermont, Hawaii, West Virginia, New Mexico, and California, with New York narrowly breaking even. Many of these former blue state inhabitants seem to be fleeing to red states. The five fastest-growing states have Republican-controlled governments — South Carolina, Idaho, North Carolina, Texas, and Utah.

This latest data indicates that the population trends that began in 2020 are only continuing. An Institute for Family Studies (IFS) report from September 2024 found that in 2021-2022, the five states that lost the most families were the Democratic strongholds of California, New York, Illinois, Washington, and Oregon. Meanwhile, the states that gained the largest number of families were the Republican bastions of Texas, Florida, and South Carolina, along with the purple states of Georgia and Arizona.

Compounding the population problem for blue states is further data showing that fertility rates in Republican-run states are higher than they are in Democrat-run states. An October 2024 report from IFS analyzing 2023 data found that the 10 states with the highest fertility rates were all red, with the top three being South Dakota, Nebraska, and North Dakota. True to form, the 10 states with the lowest fertility rates were blue, with Vermont, Rhode Island, and Oregon being the three states with the lowest rates. The trend dovetails with studies showing that conservatives marry at higher rates and have more children than liberals.

A recent tax proposal for billionaires in California has left many scrambling the exits. The levy is emblematic of the heavy tax burden that Democrat-led states put on their citizens, with blue states securing the top 10 highest income tax rates in the nation. In addition, red states generally have fewer restrictions on home construction, have more business-friendly policies, have more jobs, and have lower energy costs, among other factors that make the cost of living less.

Experts like FRC Action Director Matt Carpenter say that the migration from blue states to red states will also likely have a big impact on future elections.

“If these projections hold up, the apportionment following the 2030 census will undoubtedly tilt future elections toward the GOP,” he told The Washington Stand. “With red states looking to pick up additional seats in Congress and additional electoral college votes, the Republican path to winning the presidency and Congressional majorities will depend less on winning swing states and swing districts in blue or purple states and will be achievable staying within red states alone.”

“It’s bad form in politics to assume outcomes, and red states will likely have to deal with an influx of more moderate and even liberal voters fleeing blue states,” Carpenter acknowledged. “But it’s even worse form to drive your population out of your state with insanely unpopular agendas.”

Can you fathom this?

Millions of AI bots now have their own social media platform.

They talk to each other the way humans do. They argue, posture, joke, and correct one another.

And get this!

They can set up their own social media accounts, read what people are saying online, respond to posts, and in some cases even slip directly into your child’s social media feed.

This isn’t science fiction.

It’s happening right now on a platform called Moltbook. (More on that in a moment.)

And if the idea of AI bots carrying on conversations with each other like they’re lounging around a Beta Theta Pi frat house makes you uneasy, unsettled, or just plain uncomfortable, then you’re feeling exactly the way I did.

Because something about this doesn’t sit right.

Society is moving fast. Can we keep up?

Everywhere you look, the message is the same: Get on board.

Don’t get left behind.

This is the future. Ask questions later.

And if you hesitate, if you admit you don’t quite understand what’s happening, you’re made to feel foolish, slow, or afraid. As if caution itself has become a moral failure.

But there’s an older saying most of us grew up with, one that hasn’t aged out just because technology has gotten faster: Better safe than sorry.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about that phrase while watching what’s happening in the AI world, especially after spending time on a platform called Moltbook.

Moltbook isn’t a social network for people. It’s a social network for AI “agents.” Millions of them. Human-sounding. Human-arguing. Human-posturing. They talk to each other in public, debate ideas, correct one another, and even speculate about their relationship to us.

But you, a human, are not allowed to join in.

You can observe what they’re doing, like watching monkeys interact in a zoo, but you’re kept behind the proverbial glass wall. You can watch, but you can’t speak. You can listen, but you can’t participate.

Some people call these AI agents helpful tools, like taking calls or scheduling trips. But if we’re being honest, most ordinary people will experience them as something else entirely.

“Artificial humans.”

I put that in quotes on purpose. I’m not claiming these things are human. I’m saying that’s how they will be perceived.

They speak our language, mimic our tone, argue like us, joke like us, disagree like us. And our brains are wired to respond to that as if a “who” is speaking, not a “what.”

That’s where the unease begins

We’re told these systems are harmless. We’re told they don’t think, don’t intend, don’t want.

And that may be technically true. But here’s the problem: most of us aren’t tech people. We’re not AI engineers. We don’t speak the language. We don’t know how these systems are built, trained, or governed.

Imagine your teen debating faith or morality with a social media ‘friend’ who’s actually an AI bot echoing woke narratives without parental oversight.

So we’re asked to trust.

To trust the same small circle of people who are building this world at breakneck speed. People we don’t know personally. People with enormous power, enormous influence, and, in some cases, checkered histories.

We’re told to take their word for it that everything will be fine.

That’s not faith. That’s blind submission.

And it’s okay to admit that it feels scary.

There’s a pressure right now to treat skepticism as ignorance and caution as cowardice. But fear of the unknown isn’t irrational. It’s how human beings have survived long enough to ask questions in the first place.

What troubles me most isn’t that these AI agents exist. It’s that they don’t exist in isolation.

They can create their own social media accounts.

They can read what people say.

They can post comments.

They can repeat ideas endlessly.

How many children will grow up interacting with voices that sound human but aren’t accountable to human values? How many opinions will be nudged, shaped, or softened by systems no one fully understands, operating at a scale no human community ever could?

That brings me to an image that keeps coming back to me.

Colony of ants

My wife doesn’t like ants. One ant crawling across the floor is unpleasant enough. But an entire colony building a mound in the living room would be intolerable.

Ants aren’t smart on their own. But together, they reshape environments. They build. They overwhelm. They persist. They can destroy.

Is that what we’re looking at here?

We’re told no. We’re told we’re exaggerating. But when explanations are wrapped in jargon, and assurances come from people who benefit most from our compliance, it’s reasonable to pause.

And that’s where I want to end, because this is exactly why we do what we do here.

People subscribe to this Substack not for hype, panic, or instant conclusions.

They subscribe because they want help discerning. Because they want someone to slow things down, strip away the language games, and talk honestly about what’s safe, what’s harmful, and what’s still unknown.

Antisemitism is an addiction across generations, geography, history, and societies. Like all addictions, it must be seen as diseased minds requiring cures. Rather than treating antisemitism as a craven incurable disease, we must recognize that it craves attention. It must be isolated and ostracized by society, castigated, and scorned like a pandemic scourge that can maim and kill those it infects. “Educate, educate, educate” the public on its deadly dangers – 60 million dead bodies just from World War II.

New World Order

The ultimate goal of the Deep State is the establishment of an NWO, where power is concentrated in the hands of the global elites. Under the guise of unity and global governance, the Deep State seeks to strip away the sovereignty of nations and exert total control over every aspect of human existence. The NWO will crush individual freedom, suppress dissent, and impose a uniformity that stifles creativity and diversity.

Secret Societies

Behind the facade of democracy, the Deep State exercises surreptitious control over political processes across nations. Politicians, particularly those in the Western world, are mere pawns in the grand chessboard of the Deep State’s manipulation. They operate with the explicit goal of undermining democratic principles by imposing restrictive measures and curtailing personal freedoms.

Global Elites

At the core of the DS lies the global elites—an exclusive and influential group of individuals who pull the strings of power. As mentioned earlier, these groups possess vast wealth and wield immense influence, and are believed to manipulate world events to further their own interests. Their control extends beyond national boundaries, transcending governments and institutions to forge a global system that perpetuates their dominance. They are indeed a new small group of wealthy and influential individuals, sometimes referred to as the global elite ‘psychopaths,’ and are the driving force behind the Deep State. It is a fact, maybe known or not known to the common public, that these individuals use their wealth and power to manipulate world events and consolidate their control over governments and institutions.

Shadowy Organizations and Shadow Governments

The existence of the Deep State is often attributed to shadowy organizations (shadow governments) that operate covertly. Secret societies, intelligence agencies, and international bodies (United Nations) are commonly depicted as players in this clandestine network. These organizations are believed to collaborate in secret, utilizing their covert activities to exert undue influence over national and international affairs, thus advancing the Deep State’s hidden agenda.

Most observers looking at the mob action directed against federal officers engaged in immigration enforcement in Minneapolis, in particular, are, in my opinion, losing the plot. What we are seeing in the coordinated attacks on federal law enforcement officers is not a popular resistance to removing welfare-guzzling layabouts from our country. It is the visible part of Mao Zedong’s “People War” or “revolutionary warfare triad.”

The 50s and 60s produced a remarkable stream of politico-military thought built upon at least the figment of Marxist class struggle. Mao Zedong exported “People’s War” to Asia and Africa. Che Guevara’s “foquismo” had a brief moment in the sun but was less successful. While Mao’s “People’s War” was able to manage the transition from popular resistance to guerrillas to regular armies in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and other places.

I would even argue that one of the best case studies for Mao’s doctrine is the Irish War of Independence.

So while Mao gets a lot of credit, the principles significantly predated his tossing the Kuomintang out of China.

Algeria, Iraq, and Afghanistan also provide useful case studies. Guevara’s idea was that of a small, dedicated band of revolutionaries, as those led by Fidel Castro in the Sierra Maestra could set off a popular revolution. Guevara’s method worked in Cuba and, to a certain extent, in Nicaragua, but fell flat on its face when used by the Provisional IRA, the German Rote Armee Fraktion, the Italian Brigate Rosse, and our own Weather Underground.

As an aside, my personal nexus with the Brigate Rosse is having a young carabinieri point a submachinegun at me during a traffic checkpoint in northern Italy because he thought I was one.

Mainstream Media Refuse to Report the Full Facts on ICE Protests, so Americans Must Rely on X Indies

Want to view one of the many resistance training videos being used by protest organizers in Minneapolis? You won’t find it on The New York Times or The Washington Post. Forget USA Today. And don’t even bother searching for it on NBC, MSNOW, CBS, ABC, or CNN. The mainstream media isn’t interested in reporting that side of the biggest domestic protests since the George Floyd riots of 2020.

But independent journalist Cam Higby has not only made public “Documenting and Responding to ICE,” a training video hosted by a Chicago political activist, Jill Garvey, he also infiltrated the Signal organization that is coordinating, supplying, and directing the chaos on Minneapolis streets.

Higby has posted names of the members of the eight sub-groups within Signal, extensively quoted the group’s internal communications, and documented in detail how members track ICE movements then direct protestors to specific locations where ICE law enforcement officials most likely are trying to remove an illegal immigrant who could be a hardened, violent criminal from the streets.

To appreciate how deeply Higby has infiltrated and documented Signal, check out his X home, then search on “MINNEAPOLIS SIGNAL INFILTRATED.” There you will find multiple posts like this one that documents how the protestors relay tag and other information on an ICE vehicle located in one of the protest areas. Higby’s infiltration has been so effective that Signal’s operators were forced to take counter-measures that temporarily limited their ability to continue operations. Unfortunately for them, those counter-measures came after Higby exposed the most relevant facts about their structure and operations.

To appreciate the logistical depth and detail of the organization behind the Minneapolis chaos, check out this “pop-up Leftist supply depot” videoed and reported by Gunther Eagleman, AKA David Freeman. You want milk, here it is. You need hand warmers, gotcha covered. How about some hot coffee? Or donuts? Crackers? Water? It’s all there and somebody is paying for it.

This is the kind of organized, equipped and strategically directed opposition to federal law enforcement that George Wallace, standing in the “school house door” at the University of Alabama in 1963, could only dream of having at his disposal. Ditto another avowed hard-core segregationist determined to stop federal law enforcement, Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus, when 101st Airborne troops escorted nine young black students into Little Rock’s Central High School in 1957. And imagine the death and destruction former Confederate Calvary General Nathan Bedford Forrest could have wreaked across the Reconstruction period had he access to Signal-level insurrection sophistication and funding?

In fact, Signal is not something new. To the contrary, Signal duplicates and refines what Eric Schwalm, a former U.S. Special Forces warrant officer, saw happening time and again with highly sophisticated, organized, and funded insurgencies overseas:

“From Anbar to Helmand, the pattern is familiar: spotters, cutouts, dead drops (or modern equivalents), disciplined comms, role specialization, and a willingness to absorb casualties while bleeding the stronger force slowly. What’s unfolding in Minneapolis right now isn’t ‘protest.’ It’s low-level insurgency infrastructure, built by people who’ve clearly studied the playbook. … This isn’t spontaneous outrage. This is C2 (command and control) with redundancy, OPSEC hygiene, and task organization that would make a [Special Forces] team sergeant nod in recognition. Replace ‘ICE agents’ with ‘occupying coalition forces’ and the structure maps almost 1:1 to early-stage urban cells we hunted in the mid-2000s.”

And Schwalm is worried because Signal isn’t in Afghanistan or Iraq or Gaza, it’s right here in America:

“The most sobering part? It’s domestic. Funded, trained (somewhere), and directed by people who live in the same country they’re trying to paralyze law enforcement in. When your own citizens build and operate this level of parallel intelligence and rapid-response network against federal officers — complete with doxxing, vehicle pursuits, and harassment that’s already turned lethal — you’re no longer dealing with civil disobedience. You’re facing a distributed resistance that’s learned the lessons of successful insurgencies: stay below the kinetic threshold most of the time, force over-reaction when possible, maintain popular support through narrative, and never present a single center of gravity.”

Whatever you think of the Minneapolis situation, it could only happen in a limited number of locations in America. How many? Well, Kevin Bass analyzed media reports on anti-ICE incidents around the nation for the past year and found nine counties that accounted for two-thirds of all such violent confrontations.

The nine are all connected to deep-blue big cites with far-Left Democratic mayors and with long-standing sanctuary status, including Minneapolis, Portland, Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Denver, New York, and Newark. Statistically, those nine counties turned out to be 590 times more likely to experience violent anti-ICE confrontations than all of the remaining 3,134 counties in the United States! Coincidence?

Even given all of the preceding facts, however, there is evidence the Signal operation is not perfect, as seen in this video snapshot on X of a “protestor” who, in the midst of a chaotic demonstration, suddenly finds himself able to lift himself out of his wheelchair to pick something up from the street. Either the age of miracles continues or Signal is sending false signals.

Unsubstantiated claims abound after Border Patrol agents shot and killed a man during an immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis on Saturday. Within hours of the incident — and before any investigation was conducted — officials on both sides had already concluded that the shooting was either justified self-defense or an execution, depending on their partisan affiliation. But rendering a verdict before all the facts are known is prejudice, not justice. True justice, as God himself shows in Scripture, establishes the facts first.

Videos circulating on social media show federal officers surrounding Alex Pretti, who had been filming them, after Pretti stepped between an officer and a woman the officer had pushed to the ground. After a brief struggle, an officer yelled “gun!” and shots rang out an instant later. Pretti was legally licensed to carry a firearm, and DHS said they found a semiautomatic 9mm pistol and a second magazine on Pretti’s person, but videos do not show him holding a gun before the altercation.

Less than three hours later, the Department of Homeland Security published an account of the incident to social media, claiming that “an individual approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, seen here.

The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted.” The statement added that the officer who killed Pretti “fired defensive shots,” and “this looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement.”

Administration officials echoed this account. In a Saturday press conference, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem described Pretti as “wishing to inflict harm on these officers, coming, brandishing like that.” Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller dismissed the incident curtly, stating that “an assassin tried to murder federal agents.”

However, Democratic politicians were eager to prove that the Trump administration has no monopoly on hyperbole. “This appears to be an execution by immigration enforcement,” claimed Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) on Saturday. “I am absolutely heartbroken, horrified, and appalled that federal agents murdered another member of our community. … Minnesota was once a place of refuge, and Trump has turned it into a war zone where unchecked federal forces murder our neighbors.” Fellow squad member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) likewise remarked Saturday, “Our Constitution is being shredded and our rights are dissolving. Resist.”

Compared to these equal and opposite conclusions, President Trump sounded an uncharacteristic note of reasonable caution. “In a five-minute telephone interview with The Wall Street Journal on Sunday,” the Journal reported, “Trump didn’t directly answer when asked twice whether the officer who shot Alex Pretti had done the right thing. Pressed further, the president said, ‘We’re looking, we’re reviewing everything and will come out with a determination.’”

This preliminary response is far more consistent with the preliminary nature of the investigation. “This is a breaking story, so it would not be surprising if, as more details come in, early reporting proves to be incomplete or inaccurate,” explained former federal prosecutor Andy McCarthy. “At this early point, it is not clear from various videos in circulation whether Pretti had the gun in his possession at the time of the altercation, whether he had it but was disarmed by the agents during the struggle, or whether the Border Patrol agent who shot him saw Pretti either in possession of or reaching for a gun.”

Until basic facts like these are not only uncovered but proven, any judgment about the officer-involved shooting is, by definition, premature.

This principle is supported not only by reason and common sense, but also by the testimony of God’s word. Throughout Scripture, we find that God’s perfect justice is demonstrated, among other things, by the fact that he always delivers judgment in accord with all the facts.

Of course, it is not possible for God to judge with incomplete information, because he knows everything. But Scripture takes care to emphasize the factual basis for God’s judgments. In the final judgment before God’s great white throne, John records that “books were opened … and the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done” (Revelation 20:12). The point is that God records every person’s deeds and judges accordingly.

While God’s final judgment tarries, his common grace has established human governments to administer temporal justice (Romans 13:1-4). Because human rulers are creatures, they possess only a subset of the Creator’s knowledge, and their limited knowledge is further impeded by the corrupted state of their reason under sin. Therefore, even though human justice is a good gift from God, it falls far short of God’s perfect justice.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10), so the wiser human governments recognize their penultimate status. The omniscient Creator metes out perfect justice. Fallen, limited creatures fall short of that standard. Since human governments cannot administer justice with perfect knowledge, they ought to be humble about the judgments they render. They should not consider themselves incapable of errors in judgment.

Yet another conclusion follows. If human governments can err in judgment, and if they wish to avoid unjust outcomes, then they should institute safeguards to correct erroneous judgments. These safeguards are called due process, and they form an essential part of the American legal system by ensuring fairness and transparency. These neutral rules exist for the benefit of everyone, so that even neutral observers can affirm the justice of judgments reached through due process. But, as the term itself implies, it takes time to fulfill the requirements of “due process.”

Surprisingly, even the notion of due process finds a basis in God’s conduct in Scripture. As the omniscient Creator and Lord of all, God does not need to conduct an investigation or help his creatures understand his reasoning before he renders judgment. But, as a God who reveals himself to us, Scripture records how God does these very things.

A striking example occurs in Genesis 18-19. “The Lord appeared” (Genesis 18:1) to Abraham when “three men” (Genesis 18:2) arrived at his tent. The Lord stays to reveal his plan to Abraham (Genesis 18:20-33) while “two angels” (Genesis 19:1) then proceed to Sodom. “Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave,” God explains, “I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry that has come to me. And if not, I will know” (Genesis 18:20-21).

Of course, the “Judge of all the earth” (Genesis 18:25) already knew the sins of Sodom and Gomorrah. The Lord has already claimed exhaustive knowledge of the “iniquity of the Amorites” in the covenant with Abraham, when he said their sins were “not yet complete” (Genesis 15:16). The Lord did not need to embark upon this elaborate, physical, and confusing mission to Sodom to ascertain its sinful character.

Instead, the Lord’s mission served to reveal his plan to Abraham, eliciting Abraham’s prophetic intercession and his affirmation of God’s justice (Genesis 18:25). It served to expose the utter depravity of the Sodomites in the most undeniable way (Genesis 19:4-11). And it provided the means for Lot’s deliverance, demonstrating that “the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment” (2 Peter 2:9).

God could have justly obliterated Sodom and Gomorrah with fire from heaven, with no further explanation to mankind. But he chose to act in the way that most clearly demonstrated his justice.

This is a consistent pattern of God’s action across Scripture. When Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, God knew their guilt immediately, but he did not mention it immediately. Instead, his gentle questioning — “where are you?”; “who told you that you were naked?” — caused them to realize how their own actions exposed their guilt (Genesis 3:9-11). Likewise with Cain, God does not open with an accusation, but with a question, “Where is your brother?” (Genesis 4:9).

This pattern even continues through God’s messengers, the prophets. Nathan’s parable to David induces David to pronounce his own sentence before being confronted with his guilt (2 Samuel 12:5-6). Indeed, all of the prophetic books patiently lay out the argument to prove why God was just to send his people into exile, before the end finally arrives.

Thus, God provides an example of justice that is patient and unhurried. Because God is certain of ultimate victory, he does not immediately vindicate. God’s “due process,” as it were, is simply showing his work, so that outside observers may see and believe that his judgment is the right one.

Human rulers should take note. If the perfect judge can take time to “show his work,” how much more should his fallible creatures? Government officials should investigate the facts before making judgments. And, if they want to be taken seriously, government critics should follow the same policy.
