An illegal immigrant child rapist who was granted clemency this past week by Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has been deported.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio intervened on behalf of the public to ensure that other children are safe after the foreign national predator was released from prison.
Tou Lue Vang, 42, of Laos, was convicted of sexually abusing a child years ago and was granted a pardon in June.
He was convicted of first-degree criminal sexual conduct against a child two decades ago, according to KMSP-TV.
The deviant pleaded for clemency last year.
Vang said at the time, “The shame and regret carry, especially as my children have grown older and learned about my past, run deep. If it were possible to undo what happened, would do so without hesitation.”
Vang had been in the U.S. since 1994.
His removal was ordered in 2006 after he was convicted.
The Department of Homeland Security laid into Walz and other Minnesota Democrats this week after Vang was released from prison.
“The Minnesota Clemency Review Commission voted to grant a pardon for Tou Lue Vang, a criminal illegal alien from Laos. Vang had been convicted in 2006 of first-degree criminal sexual conduct,” the agency said in a press release.

Washington Times: Vice President JD Vance has formally referred Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison to the Department of Justice Monday for criminal investigation after a new House Oversight report documented years of ignored fraud warnings. “The evidence is overwhelming that state officials knew about systemic fraud in Minnesota’s social services programs and chose to look the other way,” Vance said in a statement. Washington Times: Mr. Vance, the administration’s fraud czar, said he was making the referral after reviewing the findings from the House Oversight Committee. The committee’s report, published Monday, alleges that Walz and Ellison were “aware of widespread taxpayer fraud in federally funded social programs for years” and did not take steps to stop it. An estimated $300 million in federal child nutrition funds and potentially $9 billion in Medicaid-related funds were “lost” or placed at “serious risk,” according to the report. “As a result, potentially billions of American taxpayer dollars were allowed to flow to fraudulent actors, while vulnerable populations were harmed and whistleblowers were ignored, sidelined and retaliated against,” the report says.

Confirmed: Governor Tim Walz and AG Keith Ellison Knew FOR 6 YEARS of Rampant Minnesota Fraud But Said Nothing in Order to ‘Keep Somali Votes’
The scandal that has rocked Minnesota politics just got even worse.
A bombshell report released Monday by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Majority Staff concludes that Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison were repeatedly warned about widespread fraud in Minnesota’s taxpayer-funded programs for years, yet failed to take meaningful action while billions of dollars were allegedly siphoned from government programs.
According to the report, senior officials in the Walz administration and Ellison’s office were aware of credible fraud concerns as early as 2019 within the Minnesota Department of Human Services and by 2020 within the Minnesota Department of Education.
Yet despite possessing the authority to suspend payments and remove fraudulent providers from government programs, state officials repeatedly failed to act.
According to the report:
Senior officials in Walz’s office and Ellison’s office were aware of credible, systemic fraud in DHS programs as early as 2019 and in the Department of Education’s child nutrition programs by April 2020.
In the Feeding Our Future case, MDE officials identified serious deficiencies yet voluntarily continued payments for another eight months until the FBI finally raided. This was NOT required by any court order.
State agencies had clear authority to suspend or stop payments to suspected fraudsters without waiting for courts, FBI direction, or federal orders — but they refused to use it.
Officials repeatedly cited litigation threats and fear of racism accusations as the real reason they kept cutting checks. Not law. Not regulations. Politics.
The report states bluntly: “Litigation threats and fear of accusations of discrimination, not legal or regulatory barriers, were repeatedly cited by state officials as the reason for continued funding of entities suspected of fraud.”

A new congressional report has dropped, and if even a portion of its findings prove accurate, Americans should be asking a very uncomfortable question:
How many warnings should government officials receive before someone is held criminally accountable?
This week, the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform released a “BOMBSHELL” 205-page staff report titled:
The Cost of Doing Nothing: How Tim Walz and Keith Ellison Fueled Minnesota’s Fraud Explosion.
The report alleges that senior Minnesota officials knew for years that taxpayer-funded social programs were vulnerable to widespread fraud, yet failed to stop it.
That’s hardly a shocking secret.
For weeks, critics argued government officials had ignored warnings, whistleblowers, and available tools to stop the fraud.
The committee added something that was missing. It documented the allegations.
The report points to programs tied to the now-infamous Feeding Our Future scandal and raised broader concerns about Medicaid oversight.
Congressional investigators claim hundreds of millions—and potentially billions—in taxpayer funds were placed at risk. That’s ‘B’ as in ‘Billions,’ and ‘B’ as in ‘Busted.’
Committee Chairman James Comer called it one of the most severe oversight failures his committee has examined.
But there is another side to this story, of course. The denials.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison rejected the report, characterizing the investigation as politically motivated.
But we’ve seen this playbook before. Whenever the left faces intense scrutiny, the defense is rarely based on evidence; instead, it’s blamed on politics, bias, racism, or phobias.
Well, Americans can decide for themselves. But in this case, it may be a judge or jury making the final call.
Vice President JD Vance, who leads the White House anti-fraud task force, announced that he has referred the allegations to the Department of Justice for potential criminal investigation.
On X, Vance wrote:
“Minnesota state officials are not above the law, and if they facilitated fraud, lied under oath about what they knew, or harassed and intimidated whistleblowers, they must face justice.”
In a letter to Assistant Attorney General Colin McDonald, who oversees DOJ fraud enforcement efforts, Vance called for the matter to be reviewed with “all appropriate urgency” and said federal investigators should determine whether any laws were broken.
One fact should concern everyone regardless of party: Government programs depend on public trust.
If taxpayer dollars intended for hungry children, struggling families, healthcare recipients, or vulnerable communities are stolen, every legitimate recipient suffers.
If whistleblowers are ignored, if officials refuse to intervene, and if no one is held accountable, then the wallets of everyday Americans will be robbed while the truly vulnerable go unfed, unclothed, and unhoused.
This should not be a Republican issue. This should not be a Democrat issue. This should be an American issue.
The public deserves answers to simple questions:
Who knew? When did they know it? What action was taken?
Congress has now placed those questions squarely before the country. And the country needs to put the complicit overseers before a judge.
Read the report for yourself. The smoke is billowing, and now we wait to see if the DOJ finds the fire. Let’s hope they bring a firehose, not a guidebook on mediation.

A former Minnesota state trooper alleged this week that his bosses at the state Department of Human Services tried to bully him into quashing his findings of fraud in the state’s child care funding program.
Jay Swanson, a former criminal investigator for the DHS, also revealed that it was well known among Somali refugees in East Africa that Minnesota was the best place to go in the US to pull off child care fraud schemes.
And then Gov. Tim Walz came into office — and Swanson’s entire department investigating waste, fraud and abuse was eliminated, according to Republican lawmakers.
The allegations, which came out Tuesday at a hearing for the Minnesota House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Policy Committee, contradict Walz’s new “tough on fraud” stance after the FBI raided multiple day cares in the state.
The failed Democratic vice presidential candidate claimed that the federal investigations were the result of the state reporting fraud — an assertion that Trump administration officials said was laughable.
On the same day as the raid, Swanson delivered bombshell testimony at the state capitol, alleging that he was once ordered by his bosses to delete some of his findings of fraud in response to an inquiry from the Minnesota Legislature.
The request, he said, was a violation of law.
Swanson’s duties included interviewing owners and employees of the child care centers under investigation, and he said he learned that it was common knowledge among Somali refugees in camps in Kenya that Minnesota was the best place to operate a scam.
“They had heard you could run the scam in a number of different states, but it was easiest and you could make the most money doing it in Minnesota,” he said.

Not long after that 2017 investigation, the feds started looking into another child care center where they found “a high amount of billing fraud” — Salama Child Care Center, which was located at 1411 Nicolett Ave. in Minneapolis, the same address as the infamous “Quality Learing Center.”
That misspelled day care center was raided by the FBI this week — and now appears to be shut down.
The owner of Salama Child Care Center was indicted that same year, and in 2018 pleaded guilty in federal court and was sentenced to two years in prison and ordered to pay $1.4 million in restitution.
As Swanson’s state investigation picked up steam, the Minnesota Legislature directed the Office of the Legislative Auditor — which is tasked with looking into state programs — to conduct a “special review” of the Child Care Assistance Program, he said.
In August of 2018, as Swanson was responding to questions posed to him by the legislative investigators, he said a DHS official instructed him to submit his answers directly to them instead of the auditing agency.
After he sent his answers to his bosses for approval, a state DHS official barged into his office “angry, red-faced, and almost yelling” and told him to retract much of what he had said about fraud.
“I then advised this official that I believed what they were telling me to do was illegal,” Swanson said in his bombshell testimony.
Days later, the same official returned, claiming he had just come from the commissioner’s office and that they were sending his document to the legislative investigators, but warned him “you better be ready for the s–t storm that’s coming your way.”
In the following months, Swanson testified, “members of our unit were harassed and bullied by DHS officials” in a variety of ways, as they sought to undermine their findings at every turn.
The undermining campaign included DHS forking over $90,000 to hire a consulting firm — which Swanson noted had “no experience in public benefit program integrity or financial fraud investigations” — to claim that the “fraud allegations in my email as unreliable or unable to be proven.”

Walz Wednesday after Walz claimed credit for a series of raids on establishments reportedly used by the state’s Somalis to scam welfare benefits.
The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that multiple locations — including the “Quality Learing Center” that became iconic due to a Dec. 26 video posted by independent journalist Nick Shirley — were raided Tuesday as part of a federal investigation into fraud. Walz tried to take credit for the raids in a Tuesday post to X that was widely mocked on social media.
“This is like the, the arsonist trying to claim credit for the work of the fire department because Tim Walz let this fraud happen under his watch, whether he was complicit in it directly himself or just turned a blind eye towards it, we really did not get much help at all from the governor’s office,” Vance told Fox News host Will Cain.
“Where we did actually get some help was from some state local law enforcement officers who we assigned to the federal task force because the state government wasn’t doing anything,” Vance continued. “So, all credit goes to people on the ground, the federal officers, the state officers who are working to uncover this fraud.”

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer said Minnesota’s fellow blue states will be the next fronts in the Trump administration’s war on fraud.
As much as $9 billion in taxpayer funds may have been stolen from Minnesota’s social programs in schemes where the vast majority of those charged were of Somali descent, federal officials say. Emmer, who represents Minnesota’s 6th congressional district, spoke to the Daily Caller News Foundation after joining House Oversight Committee members Wednesday to grill Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison about their role in presiding over the theft of taxpayer funds intended for those in need.
“This should be a good message to every other state that has this type of failed leadership. The day is coming. You’re all going to be held accountable,” Emmer told the DCNF. “At the end of the day, these programs, they need to be viable for the people they were intended for, not the fraudsters.”
Just a week ahead of the hearing, Trump declared a “war on fraud” in his State of the Union address. He specifically singled out California, Massachusetts and Maine as having “even worse” rates of fraud than Minnesota, and appointed Vice President JD Vance to lead the effort. Maine, like Minnesota, also has a significant Somali population.
Vance quickly jumped into action and halted $259 million in Medicaid funds over fraud concerns, saying the government’s job is “to shut the border and shut off the fraud.” Minnesota state leaders, including Walz, have called the move politically motivated “retribution.”
Emmer called Vance’s appointment an “excellent decision,” adding he has “full confidence in our vice president.”
“[Vance is] going to go from Minnesota to places like California to Illinois to New York. They know where the fraud is currently, and they know where they need to look,” Emmer told the DCNF. “I have no doubt that when the president says this, he’s gonna find it, and they’re gonna root these people out.”
The Minnesota Republican has began sounding the alarm on fraud in his home state for years. The Walz administration was first notified of the rampant abuses as early as 2019, shortly after the fraud was said to have began, according to the assistant commissioner for the Minnesota Department of Education who under oath.
“I guarantee they’re going to find the same thing when people go to California, for instance. Minnesota is only 5.7 million people and we’re talking as much as nine billion in fraud. California’s got 40 million people,” Emmer told the DCNF. “I think these states are now on notice.”
Republican California Rep. Young Kim called California the “fraud capital of the world” during a February hearing with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. She underscored the $32 million in unemployment fraud throughout the state as well as significant fraud linked to artificial intelligence in community colleges.

Three individuals were arrested and another charged after the Department of Justice found over $1 million was stolen in a fraud scheme in Massachusetts that targeted the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Pandemic Unemployment Assistance.
The Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General also recently released an audit report from Maine revealing $45.6 million in improper Medicaid payments for children diagnosed with autism.
Individuals tied to the Minnesota’s fraud cases started facing charges in 2022 under the Biden administration, with the Department of Justice charging 48 people with stealing $240 million for exploiting a child nutrition program during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, there was no further action to fix the program’s vulnerabilities that allowed for fraud to go unnoticed.
“I’m just grateful [the Trump administration] started in Minnesota,” Emmer told the DCNF. “We’ve been screaming about this for years. Nobody would listen.”

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that federal agents were in the area executing a lawful operation to apprehend an illegal alien wanted for violent assault when they encountered armed rioter Alex Pretti.
DHS stated that Pretti was armed with a loaded nine-millimeter semi-automatic handgun and two magazines, posing an immediate and lethal threat to federal officers and the public. The agency later released a photograph of the weapon recovered at the scene.
According to federal officials, agents attempted to secure and disarm Pretti, but he violently resisted, escalating the encounter into a life-or-death struggle. With an armed suspect refusing to comply and officers in close proximity, a Border Patrol agent fired a fatal shot in defense of life.
Pretti was pronounced dead at the scene. DHS reported that he had no identification at the time of the incident.
Video footage shows agents actively struggling to restrain an armed suspect, bringing him to the ground in a final effort to neutralize the threat — underscoring that lethal force was used only after physical control measures failed.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told the Daily Mail that the deceased was armed with two magazines, and the gun has since been recovered by federal authorities.
At least two Democrat Minnesota state officials and a campaign adviser to Tim Walz, Amanda Koehler, have been identified as “admins” and “dispatchers” in a now-leaked Signal group chat used to stalk and impede federal immigration operations in the state.

Close-up videos of the fatal Minneapolis shooting showed protester Alex Jeffrey Pretti was armed with a gun — with the agent who fired the more than a dozen shots clearly reacting to something that alarmed him amid the chaos.
It’s unclear if Pretti had drawn the weapon and was immediately disarmed, if an officer had pulled it from his clothing or if he was in the process of pulling it out when a separate federal officer was seen taking it from the 37-year-old as he was pinned to the ground.
Videos of the incident show officers shouting “he’s got a gun,” as the unidentified agent reached into Pretti’s waistband to retrieve the weapon.
At one point an officer in gray coat is seen emerging from the melee with the gun, which officials said was a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun. According to close up video of that moment, as the officer holds the gun, the gun’s slide moves, meaning it may have fired, causing a loud noise of a gunshot shortly before other officer fired at Pretti.
In various videos,the agent who fired the fatal shots could be seen shooting the armed protester at close range, then pumping at least 9 more rounds into his body as Pretti lay motionless on the ground.
The Department of Homeland Security said Pretti had approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun as they were conducting a “targeted” arrest.
“The officers attempted to disarm this individual, but the armed suspect reacted violently,” DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said at a press conference Saturday night.
“Fearing for his life and for the lives of his fellow officers around him, an agent fired defensive shots. Medics were on the scene immediately and attempted to deliver medical aid to the subject, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.”
The people on the streets of Minneapolis tonight aren’t “concerned citizens.” They are a Paid Operation.

They bus them in. They fund the supplies. They give the orders.

The Border Patrol union released a statement, saying agents are “trained extremely well to protect themselves, their fellow agents, and innocent third parties.”
The union called for lowering anti-ICE rhetoric.
“When a supposed ‘peaceful’ protester brings a weapon (such as a loaded handgun) and brandishes it, there are going to severe consequences and repercussions,” they said.
“We have pleaded with and warned the media and the politicians that their irresponsible, hate-filled and false rhetoric is going to get people unnecessarily hurt, or worse, killed when they portray our agents and officers as the aggressors. They have encouraged these reckless confrontations and attacks on our agents and officers who are performing their lawful duties and enforcing the laws that Congress has put on the books,” they added.
On Sunday, anti-ICE agitators invaded a church sanctuary in the middle of service, a shocking escalation arguably inspired by the Left’s extreme rhetoric against immigration enforcement.
“Justice for Renee Good!” shouted agitators as they walked directly into the middle of the sanctuary, surrounding worshippers in Cities Church, a non-denominational Christian church in St. Paul, Minnesota. (An ICE agent fatally shot Good while she was driving her car, right after her car hit him. She had been using the car for hours to frustrate ICE’s law enforcement efforts.)
The agitators targeted the church because one of the pastors, David Easterwood, also works with ICE.
An agitator who goes by the name “DaWokeFarmer” posted videos of the action.
DOJ Investigating Church Invasion
The Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division is investigating the incident for potential violations of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon announced Sunday. While the Justice Department under former President Joe Biden used the FACE Act to target pro-life protesters who demonstrated outside abortion clinics, the law also protects houses of worship.
After the Biden DOJ weaponized the FACE Act to target pro-lifers, Dhillon seems ready to use the FACE Act for its intended purpose—to protect civil rights.
Former CNN host Don Lemon traveled with the agitators, and claims to have merely been reporting on the incident. Yet he clearly coordinated with Nakima Armstrong, the group’s leader who previously led Minneapolis’ NAACP chapter, ahead of the church invasion.
Whatever Lemon’s involvement, the agitators who desecrated a house of God deserve to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Innocent Victims
These agitators didn’t just confront a church that also employs an ICE employee. They harassed innocent men, women, and children for the crime of worshipping God. Little children do not deserve to have their songs of praise interrupted by aggressive chanting.
Of course, this church invasion does not represent the first time anti-ICE agitators have harassed innocent bystanders.
Agitators have also accosted a man for the crime of driving a Chevy Suburban, the same kind of vehicle ICE officers use.
While Lemon may cloak himself in the free speech rights of a journalist, these agitators showed no compassion for journalist Nick Sortor when he came by, asking questions. Agitators surrounded his vehicle, smashed his windows, stole his camera, and seem to have threatened his life.
Make no mistake: We have roving bands of Red Guards who make it their mission to oppose law enforcement and to terrorize ICE. They’re not afraid of harassing innocents to further their agenda.
Where Does This Come From?
This isn’t happening in a vacuum. Earlier this month, Minnesota Democrat Gov. Tim Walz—who has yet to condemn the desecration of the church—suggested that President Donald Trump was at war with him and threatened to call the National Guard to oppose ICE agents in Minneapolis.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, also a Democrat, said ICE should “get the f— out of Minneapolis.”
This rhetoric comes amid the Left’s push for “sanctuary” policies that hamstring the federal government’s ability to enforce immigration law and deport illegal aliens.
Democrat governors openly say that immigration law should not be enforced in their jurisdictions. On her very first day in office, Virginia’s new Democrat governor—Abigail Spanberger—rescinded the order directing law enforcement to cooperate with ICE.
Democrats have even whittled away at America’s sovereignty by making my birth state of Colorado a “sanctuary state.”
President Donald Trump returned to office in part because the Left had gone off the deep end on immigration. While former President Barack Obama enforced immigration law, the Left demonized immigration law under Trump, and Biden effectively opened the border, allowing millions of illegal aliens to pour into the country.
A vast network of left-leaning nonprofits has demonized immigration law in the name of compassion. The Center for American Progress and the American Civil Liberties Union urged Biden to open the border. Now that Trump has closed the border and sought to deport illegal aliens, the ACLU is hard at work challenging nearly every move in the courts.
Another network of nonprofits reaped rich benefits from federal grants in exchange for transporting immigrants across the country. Naturally, these groups complained to high heaven and sought to sue when Trump started clawing this money back.
Now, the Left’s dark money network is funding the groups organizing anti-ICE agitators—whose aggressive tactics Renee Nicole Good employed. While Good’s death was tragic, the ICE agent who shot her arguably fired in self-defense. The Left has seized on her death as some sort of gross miscarriage of justice, taking any opportunity to demonize Trump’s attempt to bring back law and order.
Trump has surged ICE officers to Minneapolis in part because local law enforcement will not work with ICE to enforce the law.
Whatever you think of Trump finally enforcing immigration law in Minneapolis, I hope you will stand with me in condemning the desecration of a church.
These agitators will consider no space sacred enough to trample on in their demonization of law enforcement. Americans across the country should pay close attention.

Fort Sumter wasn’t just the first battle of the Civil War—it was the moment a state decided federal authority no longer applied, and backed that claim with force. The point wasn’t the fort itself; it was the precedent: if Washington can’t enforce federal law on federal property, the Union is no longer a union.
That’s why the comparison fits here. When a governor talks about being “at war” with the federal government and floats deploying the National Guard in response to federal officers enforcing federal law, it echoes the same escalatory logic: state power openly challenging federal supremacy, daring the federal government to either retreat or respond. Fort Sumter was the spark because it turned political defiance into physical confrontation. This kind of rhetoric—and any move to interpose state force against federal enforcement—risks the same dangerous slide from agitation to outright conflict.

Eisenhower sent troops into Arkansas; Kennedy did the same in Mississippi and Alabama—to enforce federal law against defiant states.
What does Walz think he is doing—or is thinking too generous a word? This is not protest. This is nullification. This is defiance of federal authority. And it is beginning to sound dangerously familiar—like Fort Sumter all over again.

Congress probed the matter of what Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz knew about the $9 billion fraud scandal in his state at a hearing on Wednesday.
Several Minnesota state lawmakers, who have investigated fraud in the state for the past year, testified at a hearing of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee about what they learned from whistleblowers.
They testified two days after Walz dropped his reelection bid for a third term as governor amid years-long welfare fraud scandals in the state. Federal prosecutors have charged almost 100 in Minnesota so far with welfare fraud.
The witnesses claimed that Gov. Walz knew about fraud scandals as they were occurring, alleged that the state intimidated whistleblowers, and broached the possibility of funding of foreign terrorism.
Here are four key takeaways from Wednesday’s hearing.
1. ‘Any Doubt That Tim Walz Knew?’
The scandal hit home for House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., who blamed Walz and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison for not preventing it.
He asked the members of the Minnesota House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Policy Committee if they believed Gov. Walz knew about the fraud as it occurred.
The three state committee members were Chairwoman Kristin Robbins, and state Reps. Walter Hudson and Marion Rarick. Each said they had no doubt, or “none whatsoever,” that Walz knew.
Later, Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., asked Robins, “Do you have any examples of how the Walz administration blocked investigators from moving forward?”
Robins said that an inspector general investigation of the state’s human services department–at the center of the state’s fraud scandals–was shut down.
“They were told they could no longer do criminal investigations,” Robins said.
For his part, Walz has said he is trying to root out fraud, and did not benefit from it.
“They have explained that they live in a constant state of fear of retaliation,” Rarick said.
She gave the example of a state employee who notified supervisors at the Department of Human Services about “sloppy contracting practices,” and who was subsequently escorted from the building.
“In our face-to-face meetings with a group of whistleblowers, they reveal that retaliation now includes threats of being fired with cause, which means you do not get unemployment insurance in the state of Minnesota, being blacklisted from all state agencies,” Rarick continued.
Rarick noted that In April 2024, Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan publicly called state employees who raised concerns about potential fraud “weirdos and losers sitting in their mother’s basement.”
3. Evidence of Terrorism Funding
Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., asked about financial ties of fraudulent welfare recipients to international terrorist networks. Robins said that an informal network of money exchangers transmits money to Somalia.
“So, United States dollars that have been remitted into Somalia, in part, have been utilized, or have fallen into the hands of Al Shabbab?” Donalds asked Robins.
Al-Shabaab is a Somalia-based terrorist network linked to Al Qaeda.
Robins answered, “We have plenty of evidence of that from money directly going to Al-Shabbab, but then also indirectly because they take a cut of whatever gets sent to Somalia.”
4. Trump, George Santos, and Anything but Minnesota
Democrats on the committee used most of their time to talk about President Donald Trump and subjects other than the Minnesota fraud scandal.
Oversight Committee ranking member Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., said, “some of the worst fraud and corruption is actually found at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.”
Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., called the witnesses “hypocrites” and asked them to comment on expelled Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., as well as the Jan. 6, 2021, protest at the Capitol.
After Pressley exceeded her allotted time, Comer stopped her to say, “You’ve already secured your MSNBC spot tonight.”
Rep. Melanie Stansbury, D-N.M., was one of the only Democrats to acknowledge the Minnesota fraud, saying, “This, of course, comes after weeks of viral videos from a young man YouTuber who was literally creeping around daycares by himself.”
The lone Democrat-called witness, Brendan Ballou, former special counsel for the Justice Department, said, “I fear that the actions of a few people will be used to demonize an entire population, Somali, East African, Minnesotans.”
Robins said exposing fraud was not targeting the Somalian population.
“It is true that the majority of the fraud in Minnesota has taken place in the Somali community, and it is also true that some of our best whistleblowers are from the Somali community,” Robins said.
Embattled Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, when announcing his decision not to run for reelection, said Monday that he has fired people for failing to combat his state’s many fraud scandals, but his office has declined to list the bureaucrats fired.
“We’ve fired people who weren’t doing their jobs,” he wrote in a statement Monday, in the context of combatting fraud.
The Daily Signal reached out to Walz’s office for a list of bureaucrats fired amid the fraud scandals, but the governor did not respond by publication time.
State Rep. Patti Anderson, a Republican and vice chair of the Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Policy Committee, told The Daily Signal she is “unaware of anyone who has been fired in regard to the ongoing fraud.”
Of Walz, she said, “I think he’s assuming that people are going to take his statement at face value and not look and see the fact that he hasn’t terminated a single person that allowed the fraud to happen.”
Anderson served as state auditor from 2003 to 2007, and then as commissioner of employee relations under the state’s last Republican governor, Tim Pawlenty. She told The Daily Signal, “It’s impossible that Walz himself wasn’t aware” of the fraud and alleged attempts to enable it.
“These things don’t just happen,” she said.
Walz’s tenure has been tainted with several fraud scandals, most notably a $250 million fraud scheme where the Minneapolis nonprofit Feeding Our Future reported fake food distribution sites while collecting federal child nutrition assistance. The office of U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen has charged at least 78 defendants connected to the scheme, and 56 of them have pleaded guilty.
One federal prosecutor has estimated Medicaid fraud in the state to have exceeded $9 billion.
Anderson said that whistleblowers, who have spoken with her committee, approached bureaucrats at many levels of Walz’s administration but were rebuffed. In a previous statement to The Daily Signal, the state’s Department of Human Services denied claims of retaliation against whistleblowers.
Bill Glahn, a policy fellow with the conservative-leaning Center of the American Experiment, noted that many staff have left Walz’s administration since the first indictments in the Feeding Our Future fraud scandal in 2022, but added that Walz did not fire them; he instead allowed their appointments to expire.
“The governor now claims credit, well after the fact, for holding his appointees accountable for not stopping the fraud,” Glahn told The Daily Signal. “However, that’s not how these events were portrayed at the time.”
With Glahn’s help, The Daily Signal identified three bureaucrats who left Walz’s administration after the first indictments in the Feeding Our Future fraud scandal were issued in September 2022. Walz did not state that fraud had anything to do with their departures.
1. Heather Mueller
Heather Mueller, former commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Education, claimed before a state Senate committee that a judge ordered the department to resume payments to Feeding Our Future despite serious fraud concerns. The judge released a rare public statement emphatically denying any such order.
Two months later, Gov. Walz and Lt. Gov. Petty Flanagan announced that Mueller had “chosen not to seek reappointment” in Walz’s second term.
In a press release thanking Walz’s cabinet for their service, the governor’s office gave Mueller a glowing endorsement.
“The governor and lieutenant governor are grateful for Dr. Mueller’s continued focus on helping all Minnesota students have access to a world-class education,” the release states.
2. Jodi Harpstead
Jodi Harpstead, commissioner of the Department of Human Services, also left Walz’s office amid the Feeding Our Future scandal, but Walz made no mention of fraud related to her departure.
“I want to extend my deepest thanks to Commissioner Harpstead for answering the call of public service five and a half years ago,” Walz said in a Jan. 13, 2025, press release. “I am proud of her work running the most complex and wide-ranging agency in state government.”
3. Eric Grumdahl
On Sept. 17, ahead of a hearing before the fraud prevention committee in which top housing regulator Eric Grumdahl was scheduled to testify, the agency notified the committee that Grumdahl had been terminated. The Department of Justice has brought fraud charges in housing cases.
A spokesperson for Grumdahl’s former office confirmed his ouster to CBS News, and cited a law stating the reasons for an employee’s separation are not public data.
According to Minnesota statutes, disciplinary action against a bureaucrat is considered public information if the bureaucrat resigns or is fired amid charges.
Rep. Kristin Robbins, a Republican and chair of the fraud committee, said at the time that she was “stunned” to hear the news.
“This is yet another example of DHS and the Walz administration dodging accountability for their failures,” Robbins said.

If the crimes are left unchecked and unpunished] we will have resolved to be permanent, passive victims of fraud. We will have privileged those who will abuse the public trust at the expense of those who are working honestly to support themselves, their families, and their communities.
Now, it is time to reform a system that has all too clearly generated a perfect storm of moral hazard and abuse of the public trust.
Democratic systems are terribly vulnerable to fraud. Interest groups can seek concentrated benefits from the political class while the broader public is rationally uninterested. They are uninterested because any particular payoff to a group amounts to little when spread across the entire body of citizens. As a result, there is a constant cycle of advantage-taking pushed by various groups, encouraged by political leaders who benefit from being the object of lobbying and favor currying, and largely ignored by a public who obviously cannot monitor all the activity carried out by self-interested benefit seekers.
Typically, when we think about this kind of activity we are focused on professional, industrial, or labor groups developing “iron triangles” of influence that tie together interest groups, legislative committees, and members of the bureaucracy. In Minnesota something new has come to our attention with the revelation that perhaps billions of dollars or more have been scammed from taxpayers primarily by Somali-immigrant organizations claiming to provide social services that are non-existent. Christopher Rufo exposed the scandal. The New York Timesreported on it. Minnesota’s governor (and former Kamala Harris running mate) Tim Walz had to withdraw from his quest for a third term and is now fighting for his political life as the executive who allowed the theft of taxpayer money to explode under his watch. A YouTube reporter (essentially a man with a camera) re-ignited the outrage when he demonstrated that some of the grant claimants appeared to be running Potemkin villages of storefronts without actual service recipients. The video has generated over 3 million views on YouTube and is one of the most viral clips of all time on X.
The scandal has brought together a potent mix of American political pathologies that includes a major immigrant group highly concentrated in one state (Somalis in Minnesota), lopsided political support from that group for one political party (the Democrats), the abuse of taxpayer funds, the exploitation of compassion, and the use of claims of racism as a shield from criticism. In this case, the abuse has been so outrageous as to weaken the defense that might normally be raised. Now, the director of the FBI, Kash Patel, has announced he is pushing resources into the state to investigate the misuse of federal funds.
I mentioned at the beginning of this piece that this kind of misuse of taxpayer money can occur because the public is unable to monitor the actual use of budget dollars. We depend on the government to police expenditures. To say as much is to be descriptive about the situation. But what about the prescriptive? In other words, we can talk about what is, but we urgently need to talk about what should be. It is likely that this case will generate a typical American pop-up of intense concern that will have some short-term impact and then wash away in the ever-moving tide of public events. But if we let that happen, then we will have resolved to be permanent, passive victims of fraud. We will have privileged those who will abuse the public trust at the expense of those who are working honestly to support themselves, their families, and their communities.
All of this is to say that we need to stop being like dogs distracted by squirrels and think with sustained attention about the nature of government and how it must work. We do not live in a world in which taxes are collected for armies, police, and courts alone. Instead, we live in one in which a tremendous volume of dollars is extracted from citizens and is then redistributed into a vast variety of activities throughout the nation and its communities. To take a tax dollar is to claim it can be better spent by the government than by the citizen. If that is what we are going to do, then we must validate the use of those tax dollars and not allow them to line the pockets of fraudsters while simultaneously creating more public debt.

“I came to the conclusion that I can’t give a political campaign my all. Every minute I spend defending my own political interests would be a minute I can’t spend defending the people of Minnesota against the criminals who prey on our generosity and the cynics who prey on our differences,” he said. “So I’ve decided to step out of the race and let others worry about the election while I focus on the work.”
He held a news conference after announcing he’d end his reelection bid. He took no questions, though he said he’d answer some on Tuesday while providing an update on the state’s new paid family leave program.
The two-term Democrat and former vice presidential candidate has faced scrutiny in the last several months over his handling of Medicaid fraud, which has cost the state as much as $9 billion, according to a top prosecutor. Walz has stated that his administration is taking aggressive measures to prevent future fraud.

Democrats and the corporate media rushed to defend Somalis throughout the end of 2025 as reports emerged that they committed widespread fraud in Minnesota.
Federal prosecutors charged dozens of Somalis with stealing over $9 billion of taxpayer money intended for social services, including the nonprofit Feeding Our Future.
As more details have emerged about their fraudulent actions, Democrats accused President Donald Trump and conservatives of using Somalis as scapegoats and expressed their support for the population.
Tim Walz Pivots to Attacking White Peoples’ Crimes
In response to a question about whether Somalis should be held accountable, Democrat Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who has faced scrutiny for his handling of the fraud, immediately pivoted to saying that white men have committed several crimes.
“Look, it’s not law-abiding citizens. If that were the case, there’s a lot of white men should be holding a lot of white men accountable for the crimes that they have committed,” Walz said during a Dec. 12 press conference.
“I think for the community to maybe educate their population, because I think what you’re seeing here is there’s secondary victims in this, that there’s providers inside the community that are then victimizing the community themselves by signing them up, because when we’re going to some of these people, they’re like, I had no idea I was in this program. So I think it’s asking us then, you know, for every crime, which of course the majority being committed by white men, asking us to do more about that. I think it’s crime in general.”
Walz faced scrutiny from state officials who accused him of “willfully” disregarding “rules and laws to keep fraud reports quiet.” The governor accused President Donald Trump of engaging in a “PR stunt” and of “indiscriminately targeting immigrants” as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) ramped up operations in Minnesota to detain Somali nationals.
Minnesota State Senators Tear Up as They Expresses Support for Somalis
Democrat state Sen. Ann Johnson Stewart tearfully apologized to Somalis and extended her support for them during an event at a Somali mosque on Dec. 12.
“We are heartbroken by the horrible actions of our government, and we want you to know that at the state level, we will do all that we can to support you. Whether you live in our district or not, we are here,” Stewart said through tears. “We are 100% committed to helping you. You are welcome here, you belong here and we are here for you. I apologize, I have to leave for another commitment.”
Democrat state Sen. Steve Cwodzinski then praised diversity and stated that America is a nation of immigrants.
“That’s what America is all about. We’re not a nation of ‘we’re all the same.’ We’re a nation of immigrants. We’re a nation of diversity. That’s our strength, not our weakness,” Cwodzinski said. “I really don’t know what to say.”
Their statements came after Trump referred to Somalia as a “garbage” country during a Dec. 8 Cabinet meeting. He also said that many Somalis, such as Democrat Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, had no appreciation for the U.S. despite giving them everything.
In response to the fraud, the administration has also cracked down on detaining and deporting Somalis in the U.S. illegally. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed on Wednesday that Trump supports denaturalizing any Somali convicted of the crimes.
Ilhan Omar Claims Trump Is Only Angry About Somali Fraud Because He’s Racist
Democrat Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar said Trump does not want Somalis in the U.S. because he is “bigoted” and “Islamophobic.”
“The president has always had very bigoted, xenophobic, Islamophobic comments when it comes to, you know, people who are of Muslim faith or people who are black. We’ve seen him call African nations as ‘shitholes.’ So it’s not really surprising,” Omar said. “But what is weird to me is just how creepy he’s been obsessed with me and the Somali community.”

Omar, a Somali immigrant, has defended Somalis by saying they think of themselves as Americans and pay taxes. She has urged people not to blame the Somali community for the actions of a few.
Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent alleged on CBS News’ “Face the Nation” that individuals charged with stealing from Minnesota’s “Feeding Our Future” donated to Omar’s campaign. Omar denied any wrongdoing.
Democrat Minneapolis Mayor Says Somalis Are ‘Welcome’ In His Community
After Trump condemned the fraud and cracked down on Somalis, Democrat Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey affirmed his support for Somalis, saying they are part of the city’s “family.”
“Minneapolis is proud to be home to the largest Somali community in the country. They are our neighbors, our friends, and our family — and they are welcome in our city. Nothing Donald Trump does will ever change that,” Frey said.

Minnesota’s Lieutenant Governor Wears Hijab on Television
Minnesota Democrat Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan appeared on the TV station, Somali TV of Minnesota, on Dec. 26 wearing a hijab, stating that Somalis are “part of the fabric of the state of Minnesota.”
“My name is Peggy Flanagan. I’m the lieutenant governor of Minnesota and I’m really honored and humbled to be here with you all today. I am incredibly clear that the Somali community is part of the fabric of the state of Minnesota,” Flanagan said.
Boston’s Mayor Claims Somalis Are Responsible For City’s ‘Every Achievement’
Democrat Boston Mayor Michelle Wu stated that “hate has no place in our society” without expressing any criticism for the crimes committed by the Somali population.
“You cannot talk about any achievement that the city of Boston has had in safety, jobs, and economic development, in education, without talking about the Somali community that has lifted our city up. We are proud and we are grateful for our Somali community and for our Somali American neighbors. Boston and the country are clear that hate has no place in our society,” Wu said.
“We will use every attack to actually strengthen and expand the services available, to empower and work alongside our community members who are already doing so much good in the world and setting the example for the rest of the country,” she continued.
MS NOW Analyst Laments How Somalis Are Allegedly Being ‘Scapegoated’
MS Now political analyst Mara Gay said on “Morning Joe” that Somalis were victims of the so-called far-right’s anti-immigrant narrative. She also downplayed the significance of the fraud by saying that these types of actions are “not unique to politics.”
“Let’s recall too that there’s also other scandals in other states,” Gay said. “For example, the Mississippi welfare scandal. This is not unique to politics. Americans know that. But of course, the other factor here is that because it looks like the Somali population in Minnesota, the Somali immigrant population may have been involved in some way, those people are being scapegoated.”
“And that community is being scapegoated in a way that certainly serves the far right. And so, that’s also something to keep an eye on. And that’s inappropriate, absolutely,” Gay added.
More reports of fraudulent crimes committed by Somalis have continued to emerge. While a majority of those stealing from social programs are Somali, YouTube Nick Shirley released a documentary on Dec. 26 which indicated that Somali daycare centers that receive taxpayer money are not actually providing any services.
CNN’s Abby Phillip Claims Somalis Are ‘Under Attack’
CNN anchor Abby Phillip criticized Shirley for exposing the daycare centers for their alleged fraud, saying that the population is “under attack” and receiving threats.
“But, you know, honestly, you knock on the door of a daycare center, and you’re like, let me in, let me in. What do you expect people to do? You know, in some of those cases, there were children in there. What do you want people to do in that situation? Open the door and say, come on in. When they know that the Somali community is under attack, is being threatened every single day, what is going on here?”
Politico Reporter Makes Thinly Veiled Threat to Nick Shirley
Politico senior legal affairs reporter Josh Gerstein claimed in a Monday X post that citizen journalists like Shirley could be shot under “stand your ground” laws.

Minnesota is not a “stand your ground” state, but instead imposed a “duty to retreat” before using force, according to the United States Concealed Carry Association.
CNN Publishes Article About Somali Community’s ‘Anxiety’
CNN published an article on Dec. 4 titled, “Anxiety grips Somali community in Minneapolis as ICE agents zero in on the Twin Cities,” which claimed that Somalis in Minnesota were living in fear because of Trump’s crackdown.
“A young man working at a bakery at the Karmel Mall south of downtown Minneapolis said the shopping center on Tuesday night was dead compared to usual. The man, who only gave his first name, Fawzi, said he is nervous even though he was born in Minneapolis, CNN wrote.
The article detailed how Somali shops in the area were deserted and how many were carrying IDs and papers in case they were confronted by immigration officials. It also quoted local Somalis condemning Trump’s statement about them.
The outlet wrote a separate piece on Dec. 7, which said that Somalis were embraced by Minnesota after being “scorned” by Trump.

America remains one of the few nations on earth where people of different religions, cultures, and backgrounds can arrive with nothing and still build a successful life.
The institutions are designed to give ordinary people a fair chance at the American Dream. That is why millions fleeing war, poverty, and religious extremism have found hope on American soil.
Somali immigrants are no exception. Many from Somalia have built successful lives in the United States, contributing to their communities and strengthening the economy. As a Nigerian, I have seen countless members of my own community transformed by the opportunities United States of America provides. They work hard, give back, honor the nation that welcomed them and became Americans in flesh and blood.
In truth, no country is as accommodating as the United States. America is so open that even visitors sometimes accuse citizens of not doing enough for newcomers. For many immigrants, the safety and opportunities in America far exceed what they had in their home countries.
Yet fairness demands honesty. A system that appears to prioritize the needs of immigrants over those of its own citizens and veterans can feel unjust, and that perception fuels resentment. If the roles were reversed, few countries that benefit from America’s generosity wouldn’t extend the same level of charity to United States.
This context makes the recent allegations of large scale fraud in Minnesota especially troubling. Reports involving individuals connected to the Somali-American community in Minneapolis some allegedly linked to figures associated with Congresswoman Ilhan Omar have raised deep public anger and concern. The idea that Americans taxpayer funds could be siphoned, misused and diverted to found it way to Alshabab terrorist organisation in Somalia in ways that harm United States interests is deeply distressing. Americans deserve clarity, accountability, and due process, regardless of who is involved.
President Donald Trump has openly criticized the situation, pointing to failures under Minnesota’s Democratic leadership, including Governor Tim Walz. Many Americans, especially taxpayers and veterans, view this as a breach of trust.
Equally troubling are statements from Somalia Americans community suggesting openly the desire to impose Shariah laws, use only native-language systems, or make religious dominance an eventual goal. These sentiments, even if held by a minority, undermine the shared values that unite the country. They disrespect the sacrifices of the American Founding Fathers and countless veterans who defended the nation with their lives.
America does not ask immigrants to abandon their heritage. It simply asks that those who live it’s country should respect American values, honor the Constitution, and contribute constructively to society.
Living in the United States is not a Rights but a privilege one built on sacrifice, service, and the belief in equality under the law.
To Somali Americans and indeed all immigrant groups the message is clear: America offers opportunity, but it expects loyalty and patriotism in return. Support the country that opened its doors and accepted you with an open arms, Stand for its values, Contribute to its progress and live your life as an American.
For those unwilling to do so, the path forward will be very challenging, especially under the current leadership of President Donald Trump that is committed to strict immigration enforcement.
The greatness of America lies in its generosity. But generosity must never come at the expense of accountability. For America to remain a beacon of hope, every community must uphold the principles that make this nation exceptional.
