EXCLUSIVE: Don Jr., Trump Campaign Thrilled With How Much Better They Think Vance Has Been Than Walz

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign and his eldest son, Don Jr., say they are thrilled with Sen. J.D. Vance’s performance on the campaign trail in comparison to Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, in exclusive conversations with the Daily Caller.

Trump Jr., who was one of the main forces behind Vance becoming his father’s running mate, explained to the Caller that people were “wrong” about Vance and said that he “understood the guy.” Trump Jr. and other campaign officials highlighted Vance’s media appearances, saying he is not scared to go against the liberal mainstream media, whereas Walz has continued to dodge questions from reporters on the campaign trail and has yet to sit down for a one-on-one interview since becoming the Democratic VP nominee.

“I’ve known him well and for a long time. I understand his talents. And I think every Sunday when I watch the Sunday shows or frankly, any other media, I am continually reaffirmed that me going all in for J.D. was 100% the right move,” Trump Jr. told the Caller. “But what’s also interesting is there’s plenty of people that were sort of, let’s just say, J.D. Vance, not necessarily fans or perhaps indifferent, who have since reached out to me knowing my push, knowing that they were probably pushing different directions who are straight up saying, ‘Don you are 100% right on that one. I got it wrong.’ And he’s absolutely kicking ass out on the campaign trail right now.”

Regarding other possible picks, Trump Jr. said that he believes the media would have treated whoever his father picked with disdain.

“I think the media would have done the attacks on everyone and anyone that Trump ever picked. That’s their job, as sort of the lapdog propagandists of the Democrat machine. I think they went particularly hard on J.D. But those hits just don’t fall well, because his backstory, his life story, as articulate as he is, the way he prosecutes the case,” he said. “J.D. does better in a hostile media territory than the very vast majority of Republicans do on even Fox News. And so the way he’s able to prosecute that case against the Democrats, the Harris-Biden regime, their failures, it’s just been incredible to watch.”

One of the main reasons Trump Jr. said he pushed for Vance was due to his support for the America First movement, which he said he thinks Vance can “keep going in an age beyond Trump.”

“So I think he’s just shown a level of commitment to the movement that’s amazing. I think you combine that with his other talents, his youth,” Trump Jr. told the Caller. “And my dad will be a part of this thing for hopefully a very long time. But we don’t have much of a bench on the conservative side, certainly not on the America First side that can actually play the game the way it needs to be played against the Democrats, who have just been steamrolling us for years. I think he’s one of those rare talents, on our side. So, I think I recognized that earlier than most, I think others are starting to finally get it now, and that’s great.”

“You can’t put Tim Walz and JD Vance in the same category for comparison. I mean it’s not even close,” Trump Jr. added.

Meanwhile, sources on the Trump campaign and National Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt all echoed their support for Vance as Trump’s running mate and heavily criticized Walz, who has come under fire for signing legislation in favor of putting tampons in boys bathrooms, accusations of stolen valor and his history and relationship with China.

“Senator JD Vance honorably served our country in the US Marines and has truly lived the American Dream. He has proven to be a great asset to President Trump and our campaign as he barnstorms the country meeting with voters and owning the fake news media. Senator Vance certainly serves as a strong and sharp contrast to Weirdo Tim Walz, who has been one of the most radical liberal governors in the country and supports insane policies, like putting tampons in men’s bathrooms,” Leavitt told the Caller.

A senior Trump campaign official added that they are surprised Democrats have not found a way to replace Walz on their ticket, saying he is only hurting Democrats’ chance of defeating Trump.

“It’s shocking that the Democrats haven’t already done the rumored switcharoo on VP. Walz is terrible for their ticket. He came to the dance with a record of lies about his military resume, he can’t face the press without a babysitter, and despite being Governor of Minnesota, their ticket has actually lost ground in polling there since he was selected,” the senior Trump campaign official told the Caller.

Another Trump campaign official said Vance is “killing it” and has done a good job on the campaign trail.

“Besides President Trump himself, he’s the strongest advocate there is for President Trump’s policies. And unlike Kamala Harris, he’s willing to go into the lion’s den. He’ll go on Meet the Press, CNN, wherever, he’ll go do an interview, and he’ll take tough questions and he’ll come back with great answers and I think he’s been executing the case. and he’s been aggressively on the campaign trail. And we’re happy. He’s killing it,” the Trump campaign official said.

Longtime Republican strategist John Ashbrook told the Caller that Vance is “absolutely crushing it” and called Walz a phony.

“He refuses to let opposition dictate the terms of any debate and clearly delivers a message about fixing our economy and securing our border. It was very smart of President Trump to elevate the voice of a poor kid from Middletown, Ohio, who echoes the sentiments of the overlooked millions he fights for every day,” Ashbrook said. “And he offers a stark authenticity contrast with Tim Walz who’s spent his lengthy political career pretending to be something he’s not.”

Trump Campaign’s Simple Plan To Destroy Kamala Harris: Get Her Off-Script

The Trump campaign believes there is an easy way to defeat Vice President Kamala Harris in November: get her off-script in front of voters and reporters.

There have been rumblings since President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race about whether or not former President Donald Trump would debate Harris, fueled by Trump’s comment he wasn’t “thrilled” about debating for ABC News and the campaign’s indication that a previously agreed-upon September debate with Biden is null and void. Harris has even quipped back at Trump, “What happened to ‘any time, any place?’”

However, Trump has also said he does feel an obligation to debate Harris and will “absolutely” do so, and according to individuals familiar with the former president’s thinking, the current chatter about whether the debate will happen or not is more smoke than fire.

“This seems like the game before the game,” one source familiar with the campaign’s plans told the Daily Caller. A Trump ally also indicated that Trump is holding out to see if Harris will agree to debate on Fox News rather than ABC.

“”I mean, clearly they understand he’s going to have to debate her and is going to debate her more than once,” one Trump ally said. “Yeah, that’s not something she excels at, that’s for sure.”

A number of allies close to Trump and some officials on his campaign said a debate between Trump and Harris plays right into their hands due to their desire to get her off-script in front of large audiences. Her penchant for gaffes and awkward moments in interviews and live events will help drive voters away, they told the Caller. After all, that’s what ultimately killed Biden’s reelection bid.

“Every time Kamala Harris opens her mouth she’s off-script. Her record is the most dangerously liberal record in existence and no amount of scripting can change that,” Chris LaCivita, a senior Trump campaign official, told the Caller.

Trump campaign spokesperson Brian Hughes said the more Harris has to explain her record, the better it will be for Trump.

“Biden acted like a California liberal, Kamala actually is one. The more she’s forced to explain her dangerously liberal record, the more Americans will see she’s wrong on the border, wrong for fixing out of control inflation, and wrong on restoring our nation to a strong position in the world,” Hughes said.

Harris has run into problems during her time as vice president during unscripted interviews. In a 2021 interview with Lester Holt, Harris repeatedly dodged questions about visiting the southern border, resulting in a viral moment so damaging that it reportedly prompted her team to change their entire media strategy.

In a 2022 interview with Chuck Todd, Harris said that the U.S.-Mexico border is “secure” despite record numbers of illegal aliens crossing into the U.S. In another 2021 interview, Harris said she was the last one in the room when Biden made the decision to withdraw from Afghanistan, saying she felt comfortable with the decision. Thirteen American servicemembers were killed during the withdrawal, and it marked a turning point in Biden’s approval rating that the president never recovered from.

“She has to perform on the stump. She’s now running for president. She’s the presumptive Democratic nominee. Can’t hide her in the closet, can’t hide her in the basement,” one Trump ally told the Caller. “She’s got to not make mistakes and not say crazy things. She has to make sense, first of all, which is often a problem for her.”

One Trump spokesperson did clarify that the campaign believes Harris’ record speaks for itself, whether she has a gaffe-filled debate appearance or not.

“If Kamala Harris hits the campaign trail, it’s certain that America will get the chance to see how dangerously liberal she is, but do we need her to do that to win? No. She’s not even the nominee, but Harris-Biden’s record of failure speaks for itself,” they said.

Trump Campaign National Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told Daily Caller editor Vince Coglianese on his radio show Friday that Harris is “just as frankly incompetent as Joe Biden was” and “she has a very hard time speaking fluid, serious sentences.”

“Her laugh is something that I think is distasteful to a lot of Americans. But not only that, her word salads, which we’ve seen again in numerous occasions, even in the most serious of times when she’s meeting with foreign leaders, she really made a fool of herself and a mockery of this country. And it is her record again that she is going to need to answer for,” Leavitt added.

Harris has been quick out of the gate since becoming the presumptive nominee, raising record-breaking sums of money and delivering teleprompter-driven stump speeches Biden was incapable of that have excited Democrats. But like with Biden, the real test will come when there’s no safety net, like on a debate night or during a tough interview in primetime.

Trump Ties With Biden In Longtime Blue State A Week After Bragg Guilty Verdict, Poll Shows

Former President Donald Trump leads President Joe Biden in Virginia just one week after he was convicted, a new poll reveals.

Last week, Trump was convicted of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the case brought forth by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Despite this, Trump maintains his lead in Florida, Arizona and Nevada, and ties with Biden with 48% in historically blue Virginia, according to a recent Fox News poll that surveyed voters following Trump’s conviction on May 31.

The last time Virginia voted for a Republican presidential candidate was for former President George W. Bush in 2004. Trump lost in Virginia in 2016 and in 2020 against former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and Biden respectively.

Following his guilty verdict, Trump’s campaign donation page crashed within minutes of reaching the guilty verdict. Within a day, the Trump campaign announced a record breaking $34.8 million from small dollar donors. Along with his record breaking cash flow, Trump managed to maintain his lead in crucial states.

In Florida, Trump is leading Biden in a two-way race by four points, polling at 50.6% while Biden trails behind at 42%, according to a RealClear Polling (RCP) average. In a five-way race with Green Party candidate Jill Stein and independent candidates Robert F. Kennedy Jr and Cornel West, Trump’s lead grows to 10 points at 48% while Biden polls at 37.5%.

Trump won Florida in both 2016 and 2020, but by a slim margin. In 2016, Trump won the sunshine state by a little over 1%, and in 2020 he kept the state red by a little over 3.3%. His lead in the upcoming election gives Trump a slightly larger advantage.

Trump continues polling ahead of Biden by roughly four points in Arizona, leading with 48.3% compared to Biden at 44.1%, the RCP average shows. In a five-way race, Trump has a roughly five point advantage with 43.8% and Biden at 38.2%, marking a significant advantage for the former president compared to Biden’s razor thin margin in the 2020 election.

In 2016, Trump narrowly won Arizona but lost Nevada to Clinton. In the following 2020 cycle, Trump lost both Arizona and Nevada to Biden. Going into 2024, Trump’s leads.

Trump is also ahead of Biden by roughly five points in Nevada, where he is polling at 48.3% while Biden polls at 43%, according to RCP. In 2020, Biden won Nevada by less than three percentage points, while Trump has consistently led the state in 2024. Taking into account third-party candidates, Trump maintains a 6 point lead at 42.5% with Biden at 35.7%.

The Fox Virginia poll surveyed 1,107 registered voters and had a three point margin of error.

Biden’s One Big Election Advantage Is Quickly Being Erased

Through the bad polls, disruptive protests and fitness questions, President Joe Biden has continued to have one big advantage over the Trump campaign — but it appears to be fading fast.

While Biden has battled concerns about his age and backlash from the Israel-Hamas war, the president and the Democratic National Committee continued to outraise their Republican counterparts by millions of dollars. As Donald Trump dominated Biden both nationally and across key swing state polls, the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the Trump campaign struggled with finances.

But over the last two months, the RNC and Trump campaign have started to make a dent in the cash advantage Biden once had. As Trump world continues to announce record-breaking fundraising statistics, one of Biden’s few apparent edges in a tight election could fall by the wayside, strategists told the Daily Caller.

“Democrats will keep up. It’s not going to be a blowout, money wise, but they expected Trump to lose the ability to raise money by charging him with these over the top prosecutions,” Mark R. Weaver, a GOP strategist, told the Caller.

“They didn’t realize that the liquid they were throwing on the fire was not water, but gasoline,” he added.

Trump’s fundraising blitz started as the GOP primary wrapped up. The RNC and the campaign raised $76 million in the month of April, about $25 more than Biden and the DNC. It was the first time the Trump camp surpassed their competitors in monthly fundraising.

The month prior, the Biden campaign and the DNC brought in $90 million, while Trump and the RNC brought in $65.6 million. In total, Trump’s camp had $93.1 million cash on hand while Biden’s team had $192 million at the end of March.

May is already shaping up to be an even bigger month for the Trump campaign than before. After a Manhattan jury convicted Trump on 34 counts of falsifying business records, the former president’s campaign donation site crashed from an influx of visitors. The campaign later announced that 24 hours after the verdict, it had raised $54.8 million. For the total month, the campaign recently announced it had raised about $141 million. FEC filings revealing fundraising totals for both campaigns in the month of May are not yet available.

The fundraising surge lines up with the unification of the Trump campaign with the RNC. In the spring, Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara and allied operative Michael Whatley became co-chairs of the party organization. Key Trump campaign officials also took positions with the RNC.

“This was a much needed shot in the arm, and although I anticipate Biden and the entire Democratic apparatus having more money, just like they’ve had going back to 2016, Trump needs enough to make sure that they can run the kind of ground game and turnout effort that he needs to win,” Scott Jennings,  a longtime GOP adviser in Kentucky and veteran of numerous campaigns, told the Caller.

Jennings added that a lot of Trump’s support comes from mid- and low-propensity voters and unregistered Americans who are less reliable to turn out on election day.

“When I think about what Trump would do with a massive cash infusion, my mind immediately goes to, oh, he’s going to put this into a ground game to ensure that these mid- to low-propensity voters actually come out. And if he’s able to do that and jack up the turnout among that audience, he’s going to win,” he added.

Trump’s court cases, Weaver told the Caller, have had the opposite impact Democrats and his opponents hoped they would.

“It looked as though [Trump] might get beat in the primaries by Ron DeSantis or someone else, but then the Biden White House and its allies started bringing bogus and over the top charges against Donald Trump, and it angered a lot of people in the middle who see America as a place where the rule of law and due process matter,” Weaver said.

“Biden and his minions thought that they were politically drowning Donald Trump. But what they’re really doing is lifting the tide of his support in such a way that the Biden campaign will start to fall behind in the fundraising game,” Weaver continued, adding that the new influx of funds could cause issues for Biden.

MAGA Inc., the super PAC backing Trump, announced that it raised $70 million during the month of May, the New York Times reported. The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) said it had a record breaking day following Trump’s verdict, bringing in $300,000. The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) announced that it raised $360,000 after the former president’s guilty conviction.

While Trump’s new loads of cash are noticeable, Democratic strategist Brad Bannon told the Caller that he does not think it would impact the race, because the former president already gets a ton of advertising at virtually no cost.

“I’m inclined to say no for a couple of reasons. One is when there was a big fundraising gap, I didn’t think it mattered much, because Donald Trump makes his own media and he never has to pay for it. If Donald Trump didn’t spend a cent on his presidential campaign for the next five months, I doubt it would make much difference. The reality is, you know, better or worse, he manufactures his own media,” Bannon told the Caller.

Bannon added that he didn’t think most voters, though maybe a small number in swing states, would pay much attention to the ads that the campaigns are poised to spend their cash on. Jennings believes that the cash won’t all go to ads, but instead toward elevating the campaign’s ground game.

“I don’t think they’re worried about it,” Leslie Marshall, Democratic strategist, told the Caller about the Biden campaign. “I think they expected it. If you notice, Biden doesn’t seem to be phased by polls. Biden doesn’t seem to be phased and that worked well for him in 2020.”

Biden’s positioning in the polls now, however, is worse than at the same time in 2020.

While the Biden campaign has not revealed what it raised in May, other affiliated groups are still working to give the president a fundraising edge. Climate Power and Future Forward USA Action, two nonprofit organizations, are planning to spend $50 million on ads that tout Biden’s actions throughout his administration, the Washington Post reported.

Following the Trump verdict, a NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll showed that a majority of registered voters, 67%, think that Trump’s guilty conviction will have no effect on how they’ll vote in the 2024 election. Seventeen percent of Americans said it would make them less likely to vote for Trump.

With five months until the election and variables to change, Jennings told the Caller the latest fundraising news should be encouraging for Republican voters.

“It really ought to give Republicans some optimism about what they’re going to be able to accomplish beyond just your normal TV ads, but with the sort of campaign, mechanics, and infrastructure that’ll be used to turnout all these voters,” Jennings told the Caller.

Trump Campaign Launches Veterans Coalition Ahead Of Memorial Day

The Trump campaign will launch “Veterans and Military Families for Trump” on Sunday, which is a coalition with over 175 endorsements from decorated Veterans, Gold Star families and more ahead of Memorial Day, the Daily Caller has first learned.

The campaign release for Sunday, obtained Saturday by the Caller, states:

Today, President Donald J. Trump announces, “Veterans and Military Families for Trump”, a Coalition with over 175 endorsements from decorated Veterans, Gold Star families, and heroes who love our country.  This and every Memorial Day we honor and pay tribute to those patriots of service who have died.  This somber day of remembrance should also inspire us to reflect and be grateful for those of service who remain and those still serving today while risking everything to defend our great nation.

The campaign says the coalition is launching ahead of Memorial Day, and will send out a release touting Trump’s military record compared to President Joe Biden and heavily criticizing Biden’s role as Commander-in-chief.

“UNLIKE BIDEN, PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS HONORED AMERICA’S VETERANS,” the release will read. Followed by another bullet point that states: “Meanwhile, President Trump made historic accomplishments for America’s veterans.”

The release goes on to mention healthcare for veterans, improving benefits for veterans, preventing veteran suicide and providing better mental health care, and reforming the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The campaign then rips Biden for his treatment of gold star families, saying his policy mistakes have emboldened terrorists, and saying Biden has chosen to politicize the U.S. military.

“To every Veteran, ‘you are America’s greatest living heroes, and we will cherish you now, always, and forever,” Trump states in the release.

Trump To Meet With Massive Union As He Battles Biden For Big Labor Support

Former President Donald Trump will meet with both leadership and rank-and-file members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters on Wednesday in a bid to expand union support.

The meeting is part of a presidential roundtable with a few Teamsters members, the union executive board, the General President Sean O’Brien and the General Secretary-Treasurer Fred Zuckerman at the union’s headquarters in Washington, D.C., according to an announcement from the union. The visit by Trump follows another visit on Jan. 4 with O’Brien as the former president seeks to gain the support of union workers, bolstering his chances to flip states like Michigan and Wisconsin in 2024 that he won in 2016.

“Our members want to hear from all candidates of all parties about what they plan to do for working people as president,” O’Brien said in the announcement. “Teamsters are essential to every trade industry in this country. Our members are working in all 50 states and represent every political background, including no affiliation. Our union wants every candidate to know that there are 1.3 million Teamsters nationwide whose votes will not be taken for granted. Workers’ voices must be heard.”

President Joe Biden has committed to attend a roundtable with the Teamsters, but a schedule is still being worked out, the union told the Daily Caller News Foundation. The union has not issued an endorsement for the 2024 election but did endorse Biden in August 2020, before the last presidential election.

Roundtable discussion topics at the meeting include “the shrinking American middle class; workers’ wages; corporate bankruptcy reform; antitrust enforcement in the warehouse and package delivery industries; and the freedom to form and join a union.”

Teamsters’ decision to meet with Trump departs from the enthusiastic support for Biden that other unions have exhibited. The AFL-CIO, a group of over 60 unions with more than 12.5 million collective members, made the earliest endorsement in the group’s history of Biden in June 2023.

Another top union, the United Auto Workers (UAW), endorsed Biden on Jan. 24, despite Trump’s express calls for the union to endorse him while attacking the president’s policies on electric vehicles that could potentially harm UAW member jobs. UAW members have spoken out about the endorsement, noting that the union’s support for Biden does not speak for them.

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request to comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
