Left-Wing Militias Are Hiding Right Under Our Noses

Several far-left groups — from socialists to anarchists — are uniting right in the heart of Utah, one of the nation’s most conservative states.

President Donald Trump designated Antifa a “major terrorist organization” Wednesday following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. There are a litany of other leftist, anarchist groups throughout the country — some of which are armed.

Less than an hour away in Salt Lake City, Utah, various radical left-wing groups have established a presence, including the Armed Queers Salt Lake City (SLC).

The organization, which apparently took down its Instagram account following Kirk’s assassination, was investigated for possible connections to his murder, a law enforcement source confirmed to the New York Post.

A student organizer with the group, Ermiya Fanaeian, told The Daily Utah Chronicle in 2024 that threatening power requires “disruption.”

“We have seen many great examples of peaceful protest, throughout history,” she said. “And it’s not to discredit any of that. But I think in order for us to pose a threat to power … there needs to be some form of disruption.”

Another far-left organization in Salt Lake City that encourages the use of firearms is the Utah chapter of the Socialist Rifle Association (SRA).

The national group boasts 10,000 members, and its members have ties to at least four crimes — including the alleged firebombing of Tesla dealerships, according to a report from the Daily Wire.

The Utah SRA spent the summer raising money for “Artruro Gamboa, an anti-racist accused of murder,” according to a social media post.

Police alleged that Gamboa refused to drop a rifle at the request of an armed safety volunteer at a Salt Lake City “No Kings” rally, according to The Guardian.

Gamboa allegedly ran into a crowd of demonstrators before the safety volunteer fired his weapon and accidentally killed a protester, according to the outlet, citing police. Officers arrested Gamboa after he allegedly fled the scene, and he was accused of creating the situation that resulted in the death an attendee, the report stated.

Although the national SRA claims it has no affiliation with its subreddit, the forum serves as a place where members can discuss political issues with members across the country. SRA also contends that it is not a militia.

Following Kirk’s assassination, one reddit discussion responded to Cox’s call to “disagree better” by claiming they are “at war.”

Comments from members of the subreddit shared now-debunked claims that the alleged shooter was right-wing.

One commenter stated, “we literally can’t coexist with fascists,” while another shared articles from left-wing news outlets claiming “toxic rhetoric” and “anger” was spiking among the right.

“Train as often as possible. Because make no mistake, right-wing violence will be skyrocketing over the next few months and years,” the user said.

The Salt Lake chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (SLDSA) is another prominent local left-wing group.

The chapter’s bylaws state that its purpose is to “facilitate the transition to a truly democratic and socialist society.”

Its bylaws also condemn “violence that defends the status quo” and violence “against another member.” However, it appears to not display a stance on condemning violence toward nonmembers or as a form of resistance against “an economic order based on private profit, alienated labor, gross inequalities of wealth and power, racial and sexual discrimination.”

“When we fight, you say we win,” SLDSA co-chair Matty Jackson chanted with a crowd at a Labor Day protest.

“We must to ask ourselves constantly, what would it take for us to fight back? What will make the whole [working class] fight back? What will convince someone to put something real at risk?” Jackson said.

“[Employers] are part of a whole capitalist class that fights us in the courts, in the state, in the government, who own the homes we live in,” he added.

The Daily Caller asked the chapter if it condemned political violence, but has not heard back as of publication.

Republican Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said the suspect in custody for the assassination of Kirk held strong left-leaning beliefs. The alleged gunman carved “Hey, fascist! Catch!” onto one of the bullet casings.

On Sunday, SLDSA announced the postponement of its Socialist Night School session on the “prison industrial complex” due to “recent events” and “public safety.”

A Sept. 1 blog post shared on the SLDSA site posed the question: “How, without taking up arms, can I truly call myself a revolutionary?”

“The question sits at the back of my mind, and no doubt, most likely yours,” the author wrote. The post ultimately concluded that the most revolutionary act is creating art, and it urged readers to be “relentless in your rebellion.”

Another group, the Palestinian Solidarity Forum of Utah, started the “Anti-Zionism Challenge” in July, where the forum aims to dismantle “Zionism” and “Nazi ideology”.” It advocates for “every restaurant, shop, bar and business should ban Zionism.”

“Apathy is no longer an excuse,” the social media post continued.

“Nazis aren’t allowed to unmask and exist in public. They aren’t welcome and need to be shamed out of existence,” the post added.

There are a variety of smaller left-wing groups in Utah.

Utah’s Pagans for Change and Witches for Change, for example, have protested Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee with signs calling him a “fascist liar” and a “little b*tch.”

Websites like “A Radical Guide” function as a map for left-wing groups around the world. The project asserts that its vision is for “interconnected communities” working together for “liberation, dismantling systems of oppression and creating lasting social transformation.”

One Salt Lake City group listed on the platform is the Salt Lake City Free Skool, which holds free classes on various subjects and describes itself as “a small community of mostly radical minded folx.”

Another organization listed on the website is Boing! Anarchist Collective.

The collective invites those who are “inspired by people who have acted outside of the legal system to achieve liberation” and “hesitant to resign yourself to a pacified and glorified form of dissidence” to join their program.

Charlie Kirk Dead At 31 Following University Shooting

Turning Point USA Founder Charlie Kirk has died at age 31 after being shot at a speaking event at Utah Valley University, President Donald Trump announced Wednesday.

“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” the president wrote on Truth Social. “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL.”

A gunshot rang out while Kirk was talking to students for one of his “Prove Me Wrong” events at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. A spokesperson with the university told the Caller that Kirk was shot from a building about 200 yards away. Security was seen on video carrying Kirk’s body away from the scene.

Kirk was rushed to the hospital after being shot and was in critical condition before he eventually passed away, Turning Point USA said in official statements and sources close to Kirk’s team told the Caller.

A local college student who was at the event told the Caller that Kirk was answering a question about religion when “all of a sudden, out of nowhere, there was this loud bang, just one shot, bang. And I saw him hit in the neck, and I saw red gushing blood out of it.”

A spokesperson for Utah Valley University originally claimed a suspect was in police custody, but The New York Times later reported that the individual detained was not the shooter.

Kirk was a prominent member of the conservative movement, leading the influential youth organizations Turning Point USA and Turning Point Action.

The founder and CEO of Turning Point was best known for touring universities and speaking about conservative principles, and in some cases, debating students with opposing values.

Kirk founded Turning Point USA, a 501(c)(3) group, in 2012. Its focus was on empowering conservative students to run for student government positions and mobilizing them to support conservative values on campus and beyond.

Turning Point Action, a 501(c)(4), was created in 2019 to serve as a grassroots activist organization. Turning Point Action helped support President Donald Trump in his 2024 re-election campaign.

Turning Point USA regularly holds conservative youth conferences with thousands of attendees, including America Fest, the Young Women’s Leadership Summit and the Student Action Summit.

Through his relentless activism, Kirk became a close ally of President Donald Trump and members of his administration.

Kirk was listed on the 2018 Forbes 30 Under 30 in Law & Policy and was given an honorary doctorate degree from Liberty University.

Kirk married his wife, Erika, in 2021. The couple has two children, a three-year-old daughter and a one-year-old son.

Justice Department Paves Way To Rein In Federal Land Grabs

The Justice Department (DOJ) said on Tuesday that President Donald Trump has the authority to revoke national monument designations made by previous presidents, including two massive tracts of land in California that former President Joe Biden locked off from development.

The new legal opinion issued by the DOJ disputes a 1938 ruling that stated monuments designated by previous presidents cannot be undone. The opinion provides a pathway for potentially reducing the amount of federally-controlled land, a policy priority that the Trump administration has hinted at for months.

Under the Antiquities Act, presidents have the authority to “declare by public proclamation historic landmarks, historic and prehistoric structures, and other objects of historic or scientific interest that are situated upon the lands owned or controlled by the Government of the United States to be national monuments.” However, previous rulings limited the president’s ability to reverse those declarations.

“If the President can declare that his predecessor was wrong regarding the value of preserving one such object on a given parcel, there is nothing preventing him from declaring that his predecessor was wrong about all such objects on a given parcel,” the opinion read.

The opinion singled out the 624,000-acre Chuckwalla National Monument and the 225,000-acre Sáttítla Highlands National Monument in California, which Biden designated in 2025 just before leaving office. Biden’s declaration prevented the extraction of oil, gas, and other natural resources, but the latest DOJ ruling states that Trump can revoke his predecessor’s proclamation.

During his first term, Trump reduced the size of two national monuments in Utah. At the time, he argued that state and local management would be more effective than federal oversight.

“Your timeless bond with the outdoors should not be replaced with the whims of regulators thousands and thousands of miles away,” Trump said at the time. “I’ve come to Utah to take a very historic action to reverse federal overreach and restore the rights of this land to your citizens.”

However, critics argue that such a change would destroy lands with cultural and scientific significance.

“This opinion flies in the face of a century of interpretation of the Antiquities Act. Americans overwhelmingly support our public lands and oppose seeing them dismantled or destroyed,” the Wilderness Society said in a press release in response to the DOJ opinion.

Federal lands are especially concentrated in western states, where roughly 46% of the land was federally owned as of 2020.

Trump Reveals Endorsement In Senate Race To Replace Mitt Romney

Former President Donald Trump on Saturday endorsed Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs for the Republican nomination to replace outgoing Sen. Mitt Romney

Romney announced in September that he is not seeking reelection in 2024 after roughly five years in office. Trump threw his “complete and total” support behind Staggs on Saturday over the mayor’s top Republican political opponent in the election, Utah Rep. John Curtis.

“Trent Staggs is 100% MAGA, and is running to fill The Mitt Romney, a Total Loser, Seat as the next Senator from the Great State of Utah!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Saturday. “A Highly Successful Entrepreneur, who has served brilliantly as Mayor of Riverton for the past six years, Trent knows how to Create Jobs, Stop Inflation, Grow the Economy, and Secure the Border.

“As your next Senator, Trent will help us Unleash American Energy, Support our Military/Vets, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment,” Trump said. “Trent Staggs has my Complete and Total Endorsement – He will be a GREAT Senator, and never let you down!”

Unlike Curtis, Staggs has endorsed Trump publicly for the 2024 presidential race, calling him the “one candidate” who can amend the “crippling” domestic and international policies of President Joe Biden. Staggs also boasts support not only from Trump but also from high-profile Republicans including former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz and dozens of other current and former elected officials.

Staggs previously told the Daily Caller News Foundation that he seeks to address issues affecting the American homeland — such as the southern border crisis — before venturing to solve international problems, such as funding Ukraine in its war against Russia.

“I think it’s time we prioritize our own border over Ukraine’s,” Staggs previously told the DCNF. “At $34 trillion in debt, we cannot continue being the world’s piggy bank.”

Though current polling is scarce, Curtis was leading Staggs 27% to 5% in a poll conducted by Noble Predictive Insights from April 8 to 16. Other Republican candidates running to replace Romney’s seat include Brent Hatch at 11%, Brad Wilson at 10% and Jason Walton at 2%, with roughly 40% “unsure.”

Trump has had a historically troubled relationship with Romney, as the Utah senator voted to impeach the former president in 2021. Trump celebrated when Romney announced he would not be seeking reelection in 2024.

The Utah GOP convention is set to take place on Saturday, as delegates will gather to determine which candidate — possibly Curtis or Staggs — they want on the primary ballot in June.

Mormons Help Resettle Violent 17-year old Muslim Migrant who’s Shot by Police

Update March 1: Mohamed was resettled in Utah by Catholic agency, here.

You watch, this will turn into another story about overzealous police.  There will be no mention of the refugee resettlement program bringing Somalis and other Muslim refugees to colonize Utah and no mention of the huge problem with many refugees not assimilating.  Or, maybe they are assimilating—-to American black gang violence.

Utah shooting

17-year-old Abdi Mohamed

Here is the news.  Wish I had the energy to tell you more about what is happening in Utah where, although the Mormon Church doesn’t directly resettle refugees, they encourage their Catholic brethren to do so.

From Fox 13 Salt Lake City (hat tip: Utah reader):

SALT LAKE CITY — The day after an officer-involved shooting sparked unrest on the streets of Salt Lake City, the police department has issued an official statement on the incident and family members say they’ve learned the teen has awoken from a coma.

Family of 17-year-old Abdi Mohamed tell FOX 13 News detectives have told them the teen is now awake and speaking in a hospital room Sunday evening, but they have not yet been able to see him. He was reportedly in a coma after being shot three times by police.

According to a press release from the Salt Lake City Police Department issued Sunday afternoon, officers witnessed two males with metal objects attacking a male victim around 8 p.m. in the area of 300 South Rio Grande Street.

The release states, “Officers confronted the two suspects and ordered them to drop the weapons. One of the males complied and dropped the weapon, the other continued to advance on the victim and was shot by officers.”

[….]

The teen was taken to a hospital in critical condition, and Sunday his family identified him as 17-year-old Abdi Mohamed. Mohamed reportedly lived in West Valley City with his girlfriend and their son. He reportedly moved to the U.S. from Kenya about 10 years ago.  [Gee, so who pays for the care of the girlfriend and the son—I’ll wager you do, the taxpayers of Utah and America!—ed]

We get a large number of our Somali refugees from Kenya.  Note that in the line above the police weren’t willing to identify the ‘man’ but his family did.  Then this is no surprise:

The press release from police states that immediately after the shooting, a crowd gathered and became hostile, with some people throwing rocks or bottles at police. Officers asked the crowd to disperse to allow police and medical personnel to respond to the scene, but many in the crowd did not comply.

More here.

See our previous posts on Utah by clicking here.  Just yesterday I was telling a reader (who was looking for refugee crime stories) about that dreadful case of Burmese Muslim Esar Met raping and murdering a Christian girl in Salt Lake City, here.  Oh, and by the way, we have 1,931 refugee crime stories categorized from all over the world, here.  Feel free to mine that archive if you are working on a report, legislation or letter to the editor.

And, for more information on who resettles refugees in Utah, our Utah reader sent this story.  Here come the Syrians!

Public-school assignment: Create propaganda poster for the Islamic State

The local Fox affiliate has covered this, but just imagine the national outcry if students at Salem Junior High had been told to make a recruiting poster for…AFDI. Then we would really have had a media uproar on our hands. But when a school has children telling people to join the Islamic State, the mainstream media yawns and only the “right-wing” is concerned.

This is why the Islamic State has the upper hand in the war against the U.S. and the free world. Only one side is fighting. The other side is clueless, compromised, and — look! Kardashians! We’re so busy being multicultural and empathetic toward those who hate us, we have forgotten why we should defend ourselves.

“Utah school apologizes for homework assignment to make propaganda poster for terrorist group,” by Dora Scheidell, Fox13, November 20, 2015 (thanks to all who sent this in):

SALEM, Utah — Students in ninth grade at Salem Junior High School were given a homework assignment where they were told to draw a propaganda poster for a terrorist organization.

After parents complained, the assignment was canceled. However, many students had already completed it, leaving some parents concerned about what they had been exposed to in the process.

Annie Langston couldn’t believe her 14-year-old daughter Mikalia was given the assignment.

“My initial response was, ‘there’s no way you’re going to do this assignment,’” Langston said.

To complete her assignment, 9th grade Mikalia ended up on the Internet, where she typed in, ‘how to recruit for ISIS’ into Google. Her mother thinks it’s an inappropriate topic for her teenager to explore while the world remains on high alert after recent threats from the deadly terrorist organization. She decided to write a letter to the teacher and the principal, asking for an explanation.

Langston said: “In light of what happened in Paris, is that the reason for this assignment? I feel a different assignment or report could’ve been chosen or a discussion in class about the tragic events.”

Langston received a response from the teacher soon after, apologizing for the misunderstanding and informing her the assignment had been canceled. She also received a phone call from the principal.

“They’ve sat down with this particular teacher, and it has been taken care of,” Langston said. “The assignments that have already been turned in, they have been shredded.”

Mikhail never turned in her poster, and she brought it home to show her mother.

“When I found out she kept it, I told her rip it up,” Langston said.

The assignment was given by a first year teacher, but Annie Langston doesn’t want to see anything bad happen to her. She believes it was an honest mistake and in every other respect, this is a good teacher for her daughter….
