Governor Rick Scott signs Florida Pastor Protection Act

rick scott signing billMIAMI-Florida Governor Rick Scott has signed HB-43, a bill prohibiting discrimination against all pastors, churches, Christian schools and religious organizations who refuse to violate their conscience by solemnizing or conducting same-sex marriages in Florida.

Many political observers said our proposal would never pass because it was either too controversial, did not have enough support or legislators just wouldn’t touch it, Christian Family Coalition (CFC) Florida refused to believe the naysayers and committed all of its resources, time and energy to ensuring passage of this important bill for all of our pastors, churches Christian schools and ministries in the Sunshine State.

Christian Family Coalition (CFC) Florida has been working since August 2015 with Florida State Representative Scott Plakon and State Senator Aaron Bean, on securing passage of this historic proposal. CFC Florida mobilized pastors, grassroots activists across Florida to attend and speak out in support of the Pastor Protection Act at all five committee hearings in Tallahassee.  We were the only statewide organization to fight for the religious liberty of our pastors despite strong opposition from anti-Christian hate groups such as the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Florida, the Florida National Organization for Women (NOW) and other homosexual hate groups.

CFC Florida issued the following statement regarding the Governor’s signature of HB 43:

“While Christian Family Coalition (CFC) Florida was the only statewide organization who worked to secure passage of this bill, we could not have done it without the support of our House and Senate Sponsors, State Representatives Scott Plakon and Robert “Bob” Cortes, along with State Senator Aaron Bean, we also thank the Republican leadership in the Florida House and Senate.  Finally, thanks to all the pastors and speakers who joined us in Tallahassee, time and again, to testify and lobby in support of this critical piece of legislation.”

Reading the wording in HB43, it now appears to be legal for a “religious corporation” (HB43’s words) to deny goods/services to interracial couples as long as they think it is related to celebrating the couple’s marriage.

    Congratulations?
