Americans Believe There Are Only Two Genders By a 3-1 Margin

A Rasmussen poll released on June 1 revealed that 71% of American adults agreed with that “there are two genders, male and female,” with 57% saying the “strongly agree.” The survey also found that over 60% of Americans support laws prohibiting gender transition procedures for minors.

The poll appears to reflect a growing consensus across the U.S. that is starting to transcend political party lines. The survey also found that 67% of Democrats agree that there are only two genders.

“I was really surprised at the lack of support of this among Democrats,” said Family Research Council senior fellow Meg Kilgannon on Monday’s edition of “Washington Watch with Tony Perkins.” “Rank and file Democrats really don’t support this particular agenda. And that’s great to see.”

Perkins further highlighted results showing that “Americans with annual incomes over $200,000 or more likely to want the government to push this agenda, and it’s those earning between $30-$50,000 a year who don’t want this agenda around.”

Kilgannon, who formerly served at the U.S. Department of Education under the Trump administration, concurred. “All the folks that go to the very best schools and can earn really high incomes are the ones that are getting indoctrinated.” She went on to argue that corporations, with the help of the Biden administration, also play a key part in driving the transgender ideology that is being pushed on society.

“The other thing I thought was interesting about this poll and this agenda is this kind of top-down agenda,” she observed. “The businesses that support this were also the businesses that were anointed the winners, the ones that could stay open during the shutdowns of COVID.”

Kilgannon also pointed out that an increasing number of Democrat state legislators are starting to cross over to join Republicans in voting for bills that protect minors from gender transition procedures in states like Louisiana and Texas.

“There were three or four House members in the state of Texas — African-American Democrat legislators who crossed over to support the bill to stop surgeries on children there. … This is the kind of momentum we’re seeing that’s reflected so often at the local and state level. … The bodily integrity [of] children should be [a] 100% issue across both parties.”

In addition, Perkins underscored that traditionally blue counties on the Texas border are starting to turn red. “[They’re] voting Republican because they attend church, and this agenda that the Democrats are pushing is incompatible with that.”

“Right,” Kilgannon agreed. “Coming to the United States for a better life does not include sex change surgeries for your children and indoctrination behind your back at school. That’s not what people have in mind.”

How much is religion playing a role in the turning tide against transgender ideology? “One of the [Democratic] legislators that crossed over in Texas gave a very eloquent speech about this, and she cited her faith in God as the reason that she had to support this legislation,” Kilgannon noted. She further contended that all believers in America have a role in the transgender ideology fight.

“We need the full body of Christ engaged on this. There are some of us who are called to sound the warning bells and to fight the political battles. And we need other people who are going to be there to minister to the refugees that are going to be coming into our churches, who are looking for healing [from] Jesus, the divine physician.”

Perkins concurred, observing that it is this healing that is most needed for those caught up in gender confusion. “Almost always there’s trauma related to this, and healing is so essential,” he stressed. “And what they’re doing, instead of addressing the underlying trauma [and] the healing that needs to take place, they’re compounding the hurt and the trauma.” As Kilgannon explained, many detransitioners say that undergoing gender transition procedures merely “changed my body to conform with my delusions.”

“You can’t cover up the trauma,” Perkins emphasized. “You’ve got to find the healing. And that healing is found in the truth. It is the truth that sets us free.”
