Ron DeSantis Unveils Plan to Eliminate Homestead Property Taxes in Florida

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced a sweeping new tax cut proposal aimed at eliminating property taxes on homestead properties across the state. The plan would first exempt the initial $250,000 of a primary residence’s value, with a longer-term goal of fully removing the tax if approved by voters.

DeSantis is calling a special legislative session to advance the measure to the November ballot, where it would require 60% voter approval to take effect. He says the plan would not involve raising other taxes and proposes using a state trust fund to help local governments offset potential revenue losses for essential services like police and schools.
