Mark Your Calendar: November 13, 2026!

Mark your calendar: November 13, 2026.

Back in 1960, a team of “scientists” calculated that runaway population growth would bring humanity to the brink of destruction on that exact date. That’s only two weeks from now. (I’ll be the guy grilling burgers.)

They weren’t the first. Back in 1798, an English parson named Thomas Malthus warned that a world of about one billion people was about to outgrow its food supply. Today, there are more than eight billion of us – and more food per person than Malthus could have dreamed of.

The doom-mongers keep making the same mistake: betting against free people and human ingenuity.

This month alone, the experts blamed Antarctic snowmelt on penguin poop, rescheduled the end of the world for 2028, turned your kids’ jack-o’-lanterns into a climate lesson, and floated cutting the human race in half. Meanwhile, Hollywood spent more than $160 million telling you oil is evil, and America stayed home.

That’s why we do this every month. We put their claims next to the record, link you straight to the facts, and let you judge for yourself.

So grab a cup of coffee, have a laugh, and forward this to the one friend who still believes everything on the evening news.

This Month’s Fact Checks

SCIENCE BY PRESS RELEASE

Penguin Poop: Climate Hero AND Climate Villain

A study published October 7 says penguin droppings fertilize snow algae, which darkens the snow, soaks up sunlight, and speeds up melting. The lead scientist warns we may be underestimating how fast Antarctica’s snowpack is disappearing. Funny thing: last year, a different team announced that gases from penguin poop help cool Antarctica by seeding clouds. Same penguins. Same poop. Opposite crisis.

HALLOWEEN HORROR

Your Jack-o’-Lantern Is Now a Climate Lesson

British growers say a hot, dry summer shrank this year’s pumpkins to nearly half their usual size. A rural business group called it an “opportune moment” for parents to talk to their kids about the difficulty of growing vegetables in the future. Over here, Colorado State is warning that the pumpkins we throw away rot into 83 million pounds of methane a year. So the pumpkin is a climate victim and a climate polluter, all in one October. Happy Halloween, kids.

Doomsday, rescheduled

THE DEADLINE THAT NEVER DIES

Doomsday, Now Rescheduled for 2028

On October 14, TIME announced that climate change is “accelerating faster than we can respond.” The report behind it says Earth is moving “deeper into uncharted territory.” The same team said we were “entering uncharted territory” back in 2023. Three years of wandering, and nobody’s asked for directions. Days later, two University of Kansas researchers claimed we’d cross the Paris “1.5 degree” line as soon as 2028. Pencil it in next to Manhattan underwater by 2000 and Al Gore’s ice-free Arctic.

SUSTAINABLE FOR WHOM?

Their Plan to Save the Planet: Fewer of You

A study in the journal Sustainable Development, titled “Achieve Sustainability by Easing Population to 4 Billion by 2200,” wants the human race cut roughly in half. Those who remain get tighter limits on energy, land use, and consumption. The authors insist it’s all voluntary. Here’s what they skipped: much of the developed world is already facing a shortage of babies. Paul Ehrlich made this same bet in 1980 and lost.

HOLLYWOOD HOT AIR

Tom Cruise’s Climate Sermon Bombs

Digger stars Tom Cruise as a Texas oilman who triggers a climate apocalypse. It opened to just $8 million against a budget of $160 to $180 million. Variety called it the biggest box-office bomb of the year. It’s Cruise’s worst opening in 19 years, and critics panned it as a strained climate farce. Turns out Americans will pay to watch Tom Cruise hang off an airplane – just not to get lectured about their pickup truck.

DO AS WE SAY

Coldplay’s Green Tour: Rules for Thee, Jets for Me

The band has vowed to cut its touring footprint by using electric vehicles, buying “sustainable” jet fuel, and flying commercial “when possible.” Fans even help power the light show by jumping on special floors. Mind those two magic words: “when possible.” For rock stars, going green is a lifestyle choice. For you, they want it made mandatory.

Albany’s $75 Billion Shakedown Isn’t Dead

Two federal judges just struck down Gov. Hochul’s $75 billion climate “superfund,” a scheme to pull $3 billion a year out of energy producers and into a state-controlled fund for 25 years. Its crime? Billing companies for emissions from years when they followed every law on the books. As CFACT’s own Marc Morano put it, this was “literally a cash grab.”

But don’t pop the champagne. Albany already lost this fight once, in 2021, and simply relabeled it. Now Gov. Hochul is “looking” at an appeal, the bill’s own sponsor is promising “many rounds of legal wrangling,” and copycat laws are moving in Vermont and other states. Guess who pays when energy companies get shaken down?

You do, at the pump and on your power bill.

CFACT doesn’t take a dime of taxpayer money, so we answer to you, not Albany.

P.S. – In one month, penguin poop was declared both a climate hero and a climate villain. If the experts can’t decide whether the penguin is saving the planet or destroying it, maybe they shouldn’t be redesigning your power grid. Chip in now »
