‘We Will Not Be Intimidated’: Federal Prosecutor Says Those Who Assault ICE Agents ‘Will Go To Federal Prison’

Interim United States Attorney Bill Essayli of the Central District of California vowed Wednesday to prosecute anyone who assaulted United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

Democratic Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles showed up at a location where ICE was carrying out an operation Monday, demanding that the agents leave the vicinity, echoing previous demands from some Democrats that the agency cease its operations in the Los Angeles area as a way to “restore order” in the city after riots broke out following an ICE operation in June. Essayli told “Fox and Friends” guest co-host Griff Jenkins that Bass should have “changed the law” while she was in Congress.

“Let me be very clear what’s going on here,” Essayli told Jenkins. “You have the politicians in California are being openly hostile to the federal government. We are doing our job. We are enforcing federal immigration laws as written by Congress. If Karen Bass didn’t like the law, she should have changed it when she was in Congress.”

“But instead, what she’s doing is she’s signaling to the public that it’s okay to stand up stand up to federal agents to obstruct them, to impede them and some cases, to attack them,” Essayli continued. “This is why the military’s here. It is so critical we have the military protecting our agents. And to Ms. Bass, we will not be intimidated, we will not be deterred from accomplishing our mission.”

Since Friday, gunmen attacked a Border Patrol facility in McAllen, Texas, and an ICE office in Alvarado, Texas.

“When you look at the number of assaults just that my office here at the U.S. Attorney’s office has charged, it’s exploded,” Essayli said. “Almost every day, we are arresting people for assaulting our agents, damaging our vehicles, getting in our way. And then you saw over the weekend in Texas, you have ICE officers and federal agents get ambushed.”

“Officers were shot and you saw 10 people be arrested and indicted by the federal government there. They are escalating their tactics. What they are doing is not working,” Essayli continued. “And so my concern is things are going to escalate and people are going to get hurt. But I want to be very clear. If anybody gets in our way, if anybody touches our officers, you will be arrested, and you will be charged and you will go to federal prison. You can take that to the bank.”

As Republicans Pass Tax Cuts, Democrats Propose ‘Disability Reproductive Equity Day’

Shortly after voting down the “one big beautiful” tax bill, House Democrats introduced Resolution 453 to designate a day in May 2025 as “Disability Reproductive Equity Day.”

Democratic Massachusetts Rep. Ayanna Pressley introduced the bill to establish a symbolic equity holiday Thursday, with co-sponsorship from Democratic California Rep. Lateefah Simon, Texas Rep. Veronica Escobar and Illinois Rep. Delia Ramirez.

The bill’s introduction comes one week after the House of Representatives passed President Donald Trump’s comprehensive legislative package aimed at tax relief and economic reform.

The new legislation proposed by Democrats claims to commemorate the rights of people with disabilities and would establish a “Disability Reproductive Equity Day.”

Citing a “long history of reproductive coercion impacting people with disabilities,” the bill argues that many have been systematically denied their “reproductive autonomy.”

The bill states that about 4.1 million parents in the U.S. have disabilities, while about one in four adults live with a disability and roughly one in ten “people with disabilities” are capable of becoming pregnant.

It specifically highlights “women with disabilities, people of color with disabilities, people with disabilities with low incomes, and LGBTQI+ people with disabilities.”

The bill was introduced just days after all 212 House Democrats voted against a Republican-backed tax package that would extend key provisions of President Trump’s 2017 tax cuts.

Key components of Trump’s legislation include measures to eliminate taxes on tips and overtime pay, while expanding tax breaks for Americans aged 65 and older—provisions that deliver on several of Trump’s campaign promises if passed by Congress, having already been approved in a bipartisan U.S. Senate bill on May 20.

The spending package is also expected to deliver on Trump’s promise to secure the border by allocating over $100 billion toward strengthening border security and immigration enforcement.

The Democrats’ bill addresses issues such as sterilization, stating that 31 states and Washington, D.C., currently have laws permitting the forced sterilization of individuals with disabilities.

The bill also claims that “people with and without disabilities want children at the same frequency, but people with disabilities are less likely to receive contraception counseling and timely prenatal care, experience a higher rate of sterilization, and are at a greater risk for adverse pregnancy outcomes.”

Additionally, it underscores the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade  in the landmark Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case.

The legislation adds that “nearly 3,000,000 reproductive-aged women with disabilities live in States that have, or are likely to have, abortion bans.”

It also stated that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in group care settings are at a heightened risk of “physical and sexual abuse” and said women with disabilities are nearly twice as likely to experience sexual violence.

Pressley previously introduced a bill to designate a day in May 2024 as “Disability Reproductive Equity Day.”

Democrats Cut GOP Lawmaker’s Mic As He Cites Evidence Child Sex Changes Don’t Improve Mental Health

The Democrat-controlled California State Assembly cut off the microphone of state assembly member James Gallagher during debate over a bill threatening the custody of parents who don’t “affirm” their kids.

The California legislature passed Friday AB 957, a bill requiring a judge to consider whether or not a parent “affirms” their child’s “gender identity” in a custody dispute. Democratic Sen. Scott Wiener and Democratic Assembly Member Lori Wilson introduced the bill in February.

“I wanna get this out there. It’s important that we know what the science and the information is saying. Even a recent follow up study in 2021 found that out of 139 participants, only 17 persisted in their gender identity, they were looking at young boys. One-hundred-twenty-two, 87%, went back to their biological sex. You can’t have a —”

Gallagher was told his microphone was cut off due to a “time limit on speeches.”

“This bill, for purposes of this provision, would include a parent’s affirmation of the child’s gender identity or gender expression as part of the health, safety, and welfare of the child,” AB 957 reads.

Assembly member Joe Patterson pointed out during debate that the legislation unnecessarily complicated family situations.

“In California judges are already using their discretion. They already can use it, I have seen it. They already can do this right now. And so I am concerned that this is the state telling the courts to give special emphasis on this because they can already do ti. So when I look at that and I look at what I went through growing up — a very complicated family situation — I believe this is going to add more complication.”

Senator Rand Paul Introduces ‘Read the Bills Act’

AKRON, Ohio /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — “Congress has to read the bills, if they want to claim they represent us,” declares Jim Babka, President of DownsizeDC.org, Inc. “The ‘Read the Bills Act’ restores fiduciary duty in Congress.”

Under the Read the Bills Act (RTBA, S. 1571), members of Congress would have to sign an affidavit indicating they’ve read the bill or heard it read to them before voting “For” the bill. Courts would be prohibited from enforcing laws that didn’t meet this requirement.

“You can’t claim ignorance of the law as a defense in court,” Babka continues. “So there shouldn’t be any excuse for politicians to pass huge bills they haven’t read.”

Senator Paul has been featuring this issue as one of his priorities while on the campaign trail.  The Senator himself observes that, “Too often in Congress, legislation is shoved through without hearings, amendments or debate. Elected officials are rarely given an adequate amount of time to read the bills in full, and unlike Rep.Nancy Pelosi, I believe we must read the bills before passing them into law.”

RTBA also requires the bill to be posted online for seven days before the final vote. This, Senator Paul notes, will give Americans “sufficient time to read and give input to Members of Congress as they consider legislation.”

This simple, “transpartisan” act is hard for members of Congress to accept. But Americans love it. Grover Norquist, in his book, Leave Us Alone, called the bill an essential reform for transparency, applauding the fact that it prohibits sneaking-in last minute deals.

Babka commends Senator Paul. “He’s not only re-introduced this bill, which would be a law that would protect individuals, but he’s also put forth a Read the Bill rule, which would require the Senate to have a waiting period of bill publication for the vote. Truly, he’s committed to this issue.”

To help attract more co-sponsors to Senator Paul’s bill, DownsizeDC.org offers a free tool for constituents to deliver letters directly to their Representative and two Senators. Here’s the link: https://secure.downsizedc.org/etp/rtba/
