Darializa Avila Chevalier, a Committed Communist

Darializa Avila Chevalier, the winner of the Democratic primary for the 13th Congressional District in New York, is not only full of anti-Israel animus that is scarcely distinguishable from antisemitism, but she is a Communist in the full sense of the word. She admires Marx, Lenin, and even J. V. Stalin, whose Collected Works she complains — falsely — have been banned in this country. She posted about all this on a Twitter account that has since been deleted, but its contents were recently retrieved. More on Comrade Chevalier can found here: “Deleted tweets on Darializa Avila Chevalier’s account had favorable references to communist leaders and Marxism,” by

Darializa Avila Chevalier, the Democratic congressional nominee endorsed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who ousted longtime Rep. Adriano Espaillat in Tuesday’s primary, maintained a since-deleted Twitter account with repeated sympathetic references to communism, Marxist ideology and Soviet figures, including Vladimir Lenin.

Avila Chevalier, a sociology PhD student whose victory sent shockwaves throughout the Democratic establishment, has been under fire for a since-deleted Twitter account, previously reported by CNN, that included phrases such as “seize the means of production,” along with calls to abolish police, prisons and borders. Other controversial tweets include one that said Black and Arab men are both “Fetishizing ugly colonizer women” and another that described wiping her dirty hands on the American flag in lieu of a napkin.

As an undergraduate, Avila Chevalier attended Columbia University, where she organized with Students for Justice in Palestine, and after graduation became involved in pro-Palestinian campus protests over Israel’s war in Gaza. She also attended a controversial October 8, 2023, pro-Palestinian rally in Times Square — one day after Hamas’ attack on Israel — that featured speeches and rhetoric praising the attack.

On October 8, 2023, exactly one day after Hamas smashed into Israel from Gaza, and its operatives raped, tortured, mutilated, and murdered 1,200 Israelis, Darializa Aviva Chevalier attended a rally held in Times Square not to express sympathy for the victims, but to praise those who committed those atrocities.

She previously told CNN, “I have grown considerably in the years since these tweets, and I am focused on our community and our community’s future.”

She doesn’t denounce her previous postings on her Twitter/X account, but simply says, by way of defense, that “I have grown considerably since those tweets,” without offering a single example of what we are supposed to assume she no longer believes.

On Thursday, President Donald Trump accused Avila Chevalier of being a communist, a charge that she said she wouldn’t respond to while on MSNOW, saying, “I won’t be reactive.”

Trump often makes wild charges, but he was not wrong in calling Avila Chevalier a “communist.” This is no exaggeration, but a statement of fact.

A further review of Avila Chevalier’s archived Twitter account from 2020-2022 found repeated references to communism and Marxist ideology. The account, “Darializabonet,” appears to have been deleted in June 2022.

The account’s bio read in 2020, “how communist of you.” Archived posts and retweets during this timeframe included a recommendation that Karl Marx’s Capital was an “essential must-read,” a complaint that public libraries did not carry enough Marxist literature by Lenin and other revolutionary writers, and a retweet from a Communist-identifying account lamenting that bookstore “banned books” displays did not include The Complete Works of J. V. Stalin….

Yes, Chevalier was dismayed that the “banned book” displays in bookstores — designed to elicit indignation that such splendid works were being banned — did not include the works of that homicidal maniac and mass-murderer, Joseph Stalin. Why such unfairness to Stalin, whose works deserve, in Chevalier’s view, to be made readily available to the reading public?

In one post, Avila Chevalier described the animated film Anastasia as “an explicitly anti-USSR kid’s movie,” and in another post she linked to she wrote: “Time for me to once again sympathize with the people the Bolsheviks put in the blender for like 90 min 😌.”

Anastasia is about a woman to claimed to be the Tsarevna who was the only survivor of the murder of the Tsar and his family at Ekaterinburg. Avila Chevalier’s comment was meant to be a sarcastic dismissal of those trying to make her, and everyone else, sympathetic to those, including the Tsar and his family, whom the Bolsheviks murdered.

This lover of Marx and Lenin, and defender of the works of J. V. Stalin, clearly embraces Communism, the end of private property, and worker control of wealth. She also wants to see an end — that she mentioned during her campaign — to the police, though she hasn’t explained how law and order will be maintained. And she wants open borders, so that anyone who wants to come and settle in our country, no matter how hostile to its values, should be allowed in. That would be the end of the American nation-state.

Did I mention that Darializa Aviva Chevalier is a convert to Islam? Communism and Islam, in different ways both undermine Western civilization. What a figure she will cut in the House of Representatives.
