Democratic Coalition Appears To Break Down Days Ahead Of Michigan Senate Seat Election
Two Democrat candidates who vied to be the party’s nominee for Michigan’s open Senate seat appear to be sinking their coalition just days ahead of the election after sparring over Israel.
Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign asked Michigan Rep. Haley Stevens to avoid all campaign events ahead of the race, POLITICO, citing people familiar with the decision, reported Friday. The report comes after the former primary rivals exchanged jabs over an ad by Rebellion PAC, a left-wing political action committee created by The Young Turks’s founder Cenk Uygur, in which a woman claimed she couldn’t buy eggs because she had to set aside tax money for “killing Palestinians.”
“On the eve of the eve of the eve of our BIG and important election, a unifying moment has arrived, our democratic nominee for U.S Senate disavows the Rebellion PAC ad made by Hasan Piker’s uncle that claims Jews are responsible for America’s economic woes,” Stevens stated in a Friday morning X post after El-Sayed’s campaign denied it was not affiliated with the ad.
On the eve of the eve of the eve of our BIG and important election, a unifying moment has arrived, our democratic nominee for U.S Senate disavows the Rebellion PAC ad made by Hasan Piker’s uncle that claims Jews are responsible for America’s economic woes. We have learned from party leaders and emissaries, as reported in the news media that he has. On Sunday I will join with the Great Democratic leader, Jim Clyburn and Dr El Sayed for a church service in the beautiful city of Detroit. The political coalition of Black and Jewish voices that have carried Michigan and this country through so many storms to the righteous path of liberal democracy and equal opportunity for all will ring out. El-Sayed soon issued a statement on X firing back at Stevens.
“Our campaign is and has always been focused on addressing the most critical challenges Michiganders are facing: Skyrocketing gas prices, unaffordable groceries, and the inability to see a doctor,” El-Sayed wrote Friday. “That focus is why our people-powered campaign defeated a historic $70M in outside spending from big corporations and AIPAC [the American Israel Public Affairs Committee] on behalf of Congresswoman Stevens.”

El-Sayed then claimed his focus is on beating Republican nominee Mike Rogers.
Stevens’s office, as well as the El-Sayed and Rogers campaigns, did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s requests for comment.
Rogers, meanwhile, called Stevens a “courageous leader” for her performance during the August primary in a Friday night X post.
“She was absolutely right to call on Abdul El-Sayed to denounce the Rebellion PAC ad and she was right to call on him to apologize for espousing the same hateful ideology behind it,” Rogers wrote.
Representative Haley Stevens is a courageous leader who deserves the respect of every Michigan voter. She has conducted herself with nothing but class since the Democratic primary, a primary where a majority of voters did not vote for her party’s nominee. She was absolutely right to call on Abdul El-Sayed to denounce the Rebellion PAC ad and she was right to call on him to apologize for espousing the same hateful ideology behind it. Representative Stevens’ statement expressed a hope that Abdul El-Sayed “had heard the deep concerns of the Jewish Community.” It is as shameful as it is disappointing that his response to her clearly shows that he does not care about those concerns. In her statement, the Congresswoman says, “ the Jewish and African-American communities of my district deserve to have someone show up for them, rather than fight over them.” I agree with her and my campaign is about being there, showing up and defending these communities and all Michiganders.

President Donald Trump likwise said during a Friday rally in Daytona, Florida, that “[i]f you’re black, or if you’re Jewish, and you vote for Abdul, you’re not smart.”
Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. shared a similar sentiment on X that morning, stating he was unconvinced by El-Sayed’s Oct. 1 disavowal of the Muslim Brotherhood.
“Under persistent badgering before national news cameras, Al-Sayed finally caved: ‘Sure. Yeah, absolutely!’ he said unconvincingly. He then spent five minutes attacking the man’s motives,” Kennedy wrote in his roughly 3,000-word post. “El-Sayed said nothing about the Brotherhood itself, its ideology, or the Muslim Brotherhood front organizations he works with. A disavowal that names nothing and condemns nothing is a disavowal in name only.”
El-Sayed leads Rogers by 5% as of Saturday, according to FiftyPlusOne’s polling average.
