Updated List of Military Units Deployed on America’s Southern Border — Are We At War?

TownHall.com has published a column by Julio Rosas titled “An Updated List of Military Units Deployed to the Southern Border.”

Rosas reported:

“To clarify, the composition of the more than 5,000 personnel currently on the Southwest Border (and growing to approximately 6,000 by March 1) is comprised of both Active Duty and National Guard personnel,” the Pentagon said in a statement. “Specifically, approximately 2,100 personnel are National Guard and the rest are Active Duty.”

IT WAS JUST A MATTER OF TIME: Now Mexicans and Others are Coming in Across our Northern Border

I told you recently that it’s election year in Canada and if Trudeau is reelected it is only going to get worse for us as he has put out a Canadian welcome mat to the world.

Did you know that Mexicans and Romanians can go to Canada without even a visa! So guess where they are going once in Canada!

From NBC News,

Illegal border crossings from Canada quietly rising, data shows

DERBY LINE, Vermont — More than 960 people crossed into the U.S. illegally from the northern border with Canada last year, according to data released from Customs and Border Protection.

While that number is a tiny fraction compared to the migration across the border with Mexico, it represented a 91 percent increase from the prior fiscal year, the data showed.

The Trump administration’s rhetoric on border security has largely homed in on the southern border, which has seen an influx of thousands of families with children from Central America seeking asylum in the United States.

But officials have also seen an increase of illegal crossings on the northern border in the last fiscal year, according to the data. In fiscal year 2017, immigration agents apprehended 504 people crossing illegally from Canada, compared to 963 in fiscal year 2018, the border patrol data showed.

A large percentage of that spike came from the Swanton border patrol sector — along the border of New Hampshire, Vermont and New York — where agents apprehended 548 people in 2018, up from 165 in all of 2017.

Preliminary data from October to January shows 465 apprehensions from Canada, with 294 in the Swanton sector.

No visas for Mexicans or Romanians (who else?)

Ross [ Border Patrol Agent Richard Ross] said he believed there may be a perception that traveling from Canada was “safer” and the increase could be attributed to recent immigration changes in Canada that allow those from some countries, such as Mexico and Romania, to enter without a visa.

He said some immigrants looking to get into the U.S. illegally could pay a few hundred dollars for a flight to Canada, pay a small electronic travel authorization fee and make their way into the United States.

More here.  You will learn that smugglers have already figured this out!

A Sober Take On The State Of The Union Through The Eyes Of CPAC

It was my first CPAC meeting, and it was awesome! But it was more than that. It was informative, encouraging, engaging and sobering.

So from a first-timer Here are some of the more prominent issues in the minds of conservatives this year.

The State Of The Union

Almost to a tee, conservatives were concerned about the state of the nation.  They recognized that for far too long America has been headed in the wrong direction, and they were painfully aware of the difficulty and the effort required to turn such a large and massive ship around.  Despite their optimism towards President Trump and the work he has been undertaking, very few seemed to believe America was headed in the right direction.

For most in attendance, the media have become an unapologetic instrument for left-wing propaganda.  The government footprint is way too large.  Our educational institutions have become liberal indoctrination camps, and the youth in our country is perilously close to accepting socialism as a valid socioeconomic alternative.

But despite these challenges, those in attendance knew they had a champion, a man who seemingly had come from nowhere and was now sitting in the White House calling the shots on the war against the Left.  And no moment solidified their faith in this President than when Donald J. Trump appeared at the CPAC stage, made his way to Old Glory, faced the audience, and gave the flag a protracted and joyous embrace.  It was a gesture that no one ever recalled any president ever doing, and it sealed their faith in the man that was both the spear for the conservative agenda and the target for the vitriol from the Left.

That image of President Trump hugging the American flag with a big, satisfied smile will likely become one of the great, indelible images in the minds of those present.

The State Of The Democratic Party

Conservatives’ view on the state of the Democrat Party was best articulated by Sen. Ted Cruz who, in his eloquence and sophistication, expertly and precisely described the Democrats in 2019.  To quote Senator Cruz, the Democrats have gone “bat-crap-crazy.”

From their position on border security to their Green New Deal, their open and unfettered embrace of socialism, their threats to disarm Americans, and their calls to execute American citizens without due process the Democrat mantra has devolved so precipitously that it defies belief.  The devolution of Democrat political policy is so extreme that, in a taste of so much more that is to come, it allowed President Trump to openly mock the Green New Deal and to encourage Democrats to continue to discuss it.

Objectively, it is difficult to see how a policy proposal that calls for the eradication of “farting cows,” the discontinuation of cars, and the termination of air travel can ever attract America’s swing voters.  And that’s without mentioning the Left’s renewed assault on the newborn.

The State of Right To Life

Amongst the issues where conservatives felt the most confident is the issue of the right to life.  Supporting their position is a recent Marist poll showing that 80% of Americans support limiting abortion to the first three months of pregnancy.  Additionally, those identifying themselves as pro-life rose nine percentage points to 47% and even with those who called themselves pro-choice.

The most likely explanation for this renewed confidence is the predictable tendency for the Left to overplay its hand.  Other than possessing an inherent disdain for life, it is difficult to explain how Democrats would undertake such an aggressively destructive stance on human life. Yet this is exactly what they have done.

The Democrats’ position on abortion can no longer be explained as a defense of women’s right to choose, nor can it be hailed as a women’s-health issue, as the babies they are arguing may be sentenced to death are the very ones that have either already achieved viability or are freely living.

Worse yet, the celebrations that took place in the New York legislature after the passage of a bill that would allow for the death of a baby as late as during partum plays out as a disgusting site when viewed under the lens of decency and respect for others.  And the audacity of lighting One World Trade Center pink in celebration for the passage of a death sentence for scores of thousands will definitely shine as a low point in American history.

The attendees at CPAC could sense this and were salivating at the chance of bringing the Left’s misconduct and insensitivities to the public fore — and get it past the blocking line of the media.

The State of Socialism And The GND

For the first time in history, the Democrats are openly and unabashedly embracing socialism as a viable policy answer for America.  It is a direction that goes against every principle upon which our nation was created and one that brings to mind images of the open assault on the liberties Americans cherish.  And of course, it is a system that has miserably failed in every country where it has been tried.

Bernie Sanders’ campaign for President and The Green New Deal have become the symbols for such policy changes and the overtly oppressive measures the Democrats are willing to promote.

One would think that socialism would represent an untenable position for anyone to seriously propose, yet the Democrats, espouse it and openly defend it.  Their disregard for the dangers of even flirting with a socialist governmental scheme will surely come back to haunt them in a general election.

The State of Gun Rights

With a powerful appearance by Wayne LaPierre, the Executive Vice President and CEO of the NRA, and Oliver North, its greatest advocate, the National Rifle Association has doubled down on its expanded role as the great defender of social liberties and individual freedom.  It is certainly the right approach because ultimately, although the Left may argue statistics and trends, or even make some up, it will never be able to propose a viable substitute for the ultimate defense of liberties and personal freedoms; a loaded weapon.

At the end of the day, this is shaping up to be a strong year for the conservative movement in America.  Between a President who is adamant about promoting a conservative vision for America, a House of Representatives in disarray, Democrat members of Congress defending absurd political philosophies, and an economy that continues to perform light-years above the rest, it is easy to see how conservatives at this year’s CPAC feel they have the wind at their backs.

Whether they do or not, remains to be seen.

Trump Has Secured Funding For More Than Half Of Border Wall

One hundred eleven miles of new or replacement wall is either being built or is in progress on the southern border after Trump’s first two years in office, an administration official tells The Daily Caller.

All told, the administration has secured funding for approximately 445 miles of the total 722 miles desired by the Trump administration, a Caller analysis finds. The analysis holds only if all national emergency and executive action funding is upheld in court challenges.

The administration official stressed that this figure constitutes only 18-foot bollard wall fencing or 32-foot levee wall fencing, which is the barrier that Trump has emphasized as necessary.

The wall accounting begins in Fiscal Year 2017 in which $341 million was obligated for replacement wall in California, New Mexico, and Texas. This money funds construction for 40 miles of new or replacement wall of which 37 miles is completed or in progress.

$1.375 billion was then appropriated in 2018 to build upwards of 82 miles of new or replacement border wall. The administration official noted that approximately 74 miles of new or replacement wall has been completed or is in progress with these dollars. This particular wall was built or replaced in the Rio Grande Valley Sector on the border in South Texas and other locations.

Fiscal Year 2019 saw a major fight between Trump and Congress over border wall funding, with the administration demanding $5.7 billion and Democrats offering up no more than $1.375 billion, not to be used for a wall. Ultimately, after a nearly 35-day partial government shutdown and three weeks of negotiation, Trump accepted $1.375 billion in congressionally appropriated funding and declared a national emergency at the southern border.

Trump’s national emergency declaration and other executive action allowed him to tap $600 million from the Treasury asset forfeiture fund, $2.5 billion of drug enforcement money, and $3.6 billion under his authority as commander in chief.

The national emergency declaration was quickly challenged in court by 16 states, organized by the State of California and filed in the Federal District Court in San Francisco, which appeals to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Officials could not provide a complete estimate of the wall that will be built with the 2019 funds, though they noted that it costs approximately $25 million per mile, putting an estimate at 323 miles of additional border wall. The administration official cautioned that wall funding costs can vary because of terrain but noted that Trump’s actions lack the restrictions of previous appropriations to build wall in much needed areas, like the Rio Grande Valley Sector.

ICE – As Vitally Important As A Border Wall

Why Interior Immigration Enforcement is a crucial element of immigration law enforcement.

President Trump’s logical decision to declare a national emergency to fund the border wall must be highly commended, just as it should reinforce the equally important need for effective enforcement of the immigration laws from within the interior of the United States.

When I testified before the Congressional Immigration Reform Caucus in November 2001, just weeks after the terror attacks of 9/11, my testimony included the concept of what I came to refer to as the “Immigration Enforcement Tripod.”

Under that concept, the Border Patrol enforces the immigration laws between ports of entry, primarily engaging in interdiction of aliens attempting to enter the United States without inspection, the Immigration Inspectors (now known as CBP – Customs and Border Protection Inspectors) enforce and administer the immigration laws at ports of entry and finally, the INS agents, now known as ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents enforce the immigration laws from within the interior of the United States, comprising the third leg of the Immigration Enforcement Tripod.

Traditionally the interior enforcement mission has been all but neglected even though, in many ways, it is the most important element of immigration law enforcement program.

Indeed, the official report, 9/11 Commission Staff Report on Terrorist Travel, included this paragraph:

Thus, abuse of the immigration system and a lack of interior immigration enforcement were unwittingly working together to support terrorist activity. It would remain largely unknown, since no agency of the United States government analyzed terrorist travel patterns until after 9/11. This lack of attention meant that critical opportunities to disrupt terrorist travel and, therefore, deadly terrorist operations were missed.

Nevertheless, this lack of interior enforcement persists.  I have come to refer to this as Immigration failures by design, turning America into a de facto “Sanctuary Country.”

Today, nationally, there are merely about 6,000 ICE agents as compared with more than 45,000 TSA employees.

Most Americans are unaware as to just how critical the interior enforcement of the immigration laws is because scant attention has been paid to the work that ICE agents do.

Today I will provide you with my insider’s view of that vital mission that is impeded and obstructed by treacherous Sanctuary Cities and the abject lack of resources dedicated by the federal government to this mission.

To begin with, in creating the Department of Homeland Security after the attacks of 9/11 President George W. Bush created an unwieldy bureaucratic leviathan that blatantly ignored the lessons of 9/11, creating what Republican Congressman John Hostettler referred to as, “Immigration incoherence.”

Hostettler, the then Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Claims made that point in his prepared remarks during a May 5, 2005 hearing on the topic, New ”Dual Missions” Of The Immigration Enforcement Agencies.

I testified at that hearing.

Here are two excerpts from Chairman Hostettler’s prepared remarks:

At no time during the reorganization planning was it anticipated by the Committee that an immigration enforcement agency would share its role with other enforcement functions, such as enforcement of our customs laws. This simply results in the creation of dual or multiple missions that the act sought to avoid in the first place.

Failure to adhere to the statutory framework established by HSA (Homeland Security Act) has produced immigration enforcement incoherence that undermines the immigration enforcement mission central to DHS, and undermines the security of our Nation’s borders and citizens.

[ … ]

The 9/11 terrorists all came to the United States without weapons or contraband—Added customs enforcement would not have stopped 9/11 from happening. What might have foiled al Qaeda’s plan was additional immigration focus, vetting and enforcement. And so what is needed is recognition that, one, immigration is a very important national security issue that cannot take a back seat to customs or agriculture. Two, immigration is a very complex issue, and immigration enforcement agencies need experts in immigration enforcement. And three, the leadership of our immigration agencies should be shielded from political pressures to act in a way which could compromise the Nation’s security.

The enforcement of our immigration laws involves much more than merely arresting illegal aliens who are illegally present in the United States.

ICE agents, who are not sidelined by investigating non-immigration crimes such as violations of customs laws, financial crimes, narcotics, kiddie porn, intellectual property law violations or assisting Secret Service, also conduct employer sanctions investigations into employers who intentionally hire illegal aliens.  In addition to fining unscrupulous employers aliens who work illegally may be deported for their violations of law to deter such violations and to liberate these jobs for Americans and lawful immigrants.

ICE agents conduct background investigations and investigate immigration fraud.

This includes marriage fraud, labor certification fraud and other fraud schemes and fraud conspiracies that may involve crooked immigration lawyers and others who conspire to enable aliens to acquire lawful status by lying on applications for visas and Green Cards.

Immigration Fraud investigations also targets identity crimes and the production of altered or counterfeit identity documents such as passports and Green Cards (Alien Registration Receipt Cards) and other documents relevant to the filing for immigration benefits and visas.

The 9/11 Commission identified immigration fraud as the key method of entry and embedding for intentional terrorists such as the 9/11 hijackers.

ICE agents also conduct human trafficking and alien smuggling investigations and also participate in various multi-agency task forces such as the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), the Violent Gang Task Force (VGTF) and the task force to which I was assigned for the final ten years of my career, the Organized Crime, Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF).  In point of fact, it was OCDETF that successfully investigated Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.

While making note of multi-agency investigations, it is important to note that contrary to the bogus assertions made by mayors of Sanctuary Cities, when ICE agents cooperate with police departments, illegal alien victims of crimes are not inhibited from coming forward.  The opposite is true.  Visas can be provided to such alien crime victims that enable illegal aliens to remain in the United States if they cooperate with law enforcement agencies including local and state police.  Other visas are available for illegal aliens who assist law enforcement in identifying and arresting criminals and terrorists helping to cultivate informants and cooperating witnesses.

Finally, years ago INS agents worked closely, and highly effectively, with local police to raid houses of prostitution, illegal gambling operations and other criminal enterprises.  Illegal aliens who frequented those illegal operations were arrested and deported, deterring illegal aliens from patronizing those criminal enterprises.  With the loss of illegal aliens clientele, frequently these criminal operations were no longer profitable.  Many were permanently shut down.

Not unlike other crimes, the solution to immigration law violations is effective law enforcement.

The abject lack of ICE agents and resources severely hobbles the interior enforcement mission. Violations of law go undetected, un-investigated and unpunished when there is a lack of resources.

For decades the leaders of both parties have refused to adequately fund the interior enforcement mission.  Rather than providing the solutions they became a part of the problem, eager to satisfy the globalists while conning Americans and undermining national security.

This betrayal must end.

Epic Excuse-Making Follows Near-Fatal Police Shooting By Criminal Alien

When Napa County Sheriff’s Deputy Riley Jarecki initiated a routine traffic stop earlier this month, she probably did not consider that the refusal of California officials to comply with federal immigration authorities had put her in the direct path of a habitual illegal alien criminal with drug and mental health issues.

But that is what happened on Feb. 17 when Jarecki pulled over Javier Hernandez-Morales, who’d been deported three times since 2011 and had arrests for a range of crimes from multiple counts of driving under the influence, battery on a peace officer, illegal possession of a firearm and violating his probation. And there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest, according to Fox News.

After she approached his car window, the Mexican national fired a gun at Jarecki, who shot back, including at least one fatal gunshot.

“It’s unfortunate that our law enforcement partners and the community are subjected to dangerous consequences because of inflexible state laws that protect criminal aliens,” said ICE spokesman Richard Rocha in a statement.

The incident, Rocha said, could have been prevented had ICE been kept in the loop about Hernandez-Morales’ releases from jail. “This is an impactful, scary example of how public safety is affected by laws or policies limiting local law enforcement agencies’ ability to cooperate with ICE,” he said.

When Hernandez immigration status became known, local officials shifted blame and denied wrongdoing by insisting they were following state law.

“We are in compliance with state law. That is the law of the state of California, and the county intends to comply with state law,” Napa County Supervisor Vallea Ramos told a local CBS News affiliate.

The law in question is SB54, a measure signed in 2017 by former Gov. Jerry Brown and that affords protection to all illegal aliens.

The problem for California politicians and local law enforcement who want to absolve themselves of responsibility is that, according to the Los Angeles Times, three detainers for Hernandez-Morales were issued by ICE to Napa County Jail in 2014, 2015 and 2016; and a further detainer to Sonoma County Jail in 2016.

None were honored and all were issued prior to SB54 going into effect.

The controversial law received warranted criticism in December after Newman (Calif.) Police Cpl. Ronil Singh was killed by an illegal alien who had several drunk driving arrests. Like Hernandez, Singh’s murderer should have been deported years ago.

Perhaps the most outrageous displays of blame-shifting is the op-ed penned by Jodi Hernandez, a relative of Jarecki’s attacker.

Published in the Napa Valley Register, the stunning letter implies that Hernandez was merely a victim of an uncaring system that denied him access to mental health care and did not recognize his humanity.

After apologizing to Deputy Jarecki for being forced into a situation where she had to shoot the suspect, Jodi Hernandez launched an assault of her own against enforcing immigration law.

After noting Javier had worked in the vineyards doing work that “kept the engine that is Napa Valley going,” she asserted that America was “rotting from the inside out.”

She went on. Americans, she wrote, “have lost our ability to relate to the rest of humanity from our place of relative affluence in comparison to the rest of the world” and then she argued the nation “cannot ignore the pain and anguish of an individual and expect to have a safe, strong country.”

Javier Hernandez-Morales was a Mexican national. He was in the U.S. illegally. And he was a habitual criminal with an active arrest warrant. The primary responsibility of officials in California is not to tend to his mental health needs of foreign nationals, but the safety and security of their residents and U.S. citizens.

The thinking of open border policymakers and individuals like Jodi Hernandez is not only foolish, but deadly.

Illegal Aliens Arrested in Workplace Raid Sue Over ‘Rights’

It’s hard for people who obey and respect the law to keep their heads from exploding in the face of affronts to common sense and the rule of law. Our Corruption Chronicles blog explains the latest abuse of our system:

Represented by an extremist nonprofit that lists conservative organizations on a catalogue of “hate groups,” seven illegal immigrants detained in a workplace raid are suing the federal agents that arrested them, claiming that they were racially profiled for being Latino. In a federal court complaint filed this week by their pro bono attorneys at the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), the illegal aliens assert that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents violated their Constitutional rights against illegal seizures and to equal protection under the Fourth and Fifth Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

The raid occurred last spring at a slaughterhouse and meatpacking plant in a small rural town called Bean Station in east Tennessee. Agents from ICE and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) raided the facility as part of a lengthy investigation into the owner’s multi-million-dollar tax evasion and fraud scheme. About 100 illegal aliens were arrested, most of them from Guatemala and Mexico and some had been previously deported from the U.S. more than once. At least 54 people were deported immediately, some were released and others faced federal or state charges, according to a local news report following the seize.

The owner of the business, James Brantley, eventually pled guilty to multiple federal crimes, including tax fraud, wire fraud, and employment of unauthorized illegal aliens. The feds say he avoided paying nearly $1.3 million in taxes by hiring at least 150 illegal aliens and paying them off the books in cash. The scheme began in 1988 and continued through 2018 when he got busted. Brantley had reported to the IRS that he had only 44 wage-earning employees, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ). To avoid Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) tax obligations, unemployment insurance premiums, unemployment tax and workers’ compensation insurance premiums he paid illegal immigrants in cash at a rate of $8-$10 per hour.

The feds said it was a criminal investigation from day one, not simply an immigration enforcement action as many open borders activists alleged. “Tax fraud is an outrage to hard-working Americans directly harmed when criminals cheat their obligation to society by failing to pay their fair share, and the employment of illegal workers also poses a serious threat to public safety as the use of fraudulent identity documents exposes Americans to potential identity theft and other financial harm,” said the special agent from ICE Homeland Security Investigations who led the probe.

Leftist groups went ballistic, asserting that illegal immigrants were victims whose “rights” were violated by the federal government. Outraged, the SPLC called it the largest workplace immigration raid since the George W. Bush administration. “What happened on April 5, 2018 was law enforcement overreach, plain and simple,” said the group’s senior supervising attorney Meredith Stewart. “We, as a nation, have a shared set of ideals, rooted in the Bill of Rights: We have a right to be free of racial profiling and unlawful arrests. If we are not willing to uphold those ideals for everyone in this country, then we are all at risk of losing our rights.” In the complaint, SPLC attorneys write that the federal officers conspired to plan and execute the forceful and prolonged seizure of the meatpacking plant’s Latino workforce solely on the basis of their actual or apparent race or ethnicity.

The defendants are nine ICE agents who are accused of using “brutal and excessive force without any provocation.” They cursed, shoved and punched workers, according to the SPLC complaint. A Tennessee group that’s helping in the case says the lawsuit addresses the brutality the workers faced at the hands of agents. The nonprofit, Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition (TIRRC), claims the workplace raid was an “unconscionable abuse of power” with “human costs.” The SPLC, an Obama-tied leftist group that helped a gunman commit an act of terrorism against a conservative organization, has the lead in the case. A few years ago a gunman received a 25-year prison sentence for carrying out the politically-motivated shooting of the Family Research Council (FRC) headquarters after admitting that he learned about the FRC from the SPLC “hate map.” Prosecutors called it an act of terrorism and recommended a 45-year sentence.

Cheap labor explains why there is so much resistance to protecting our border.

H.R. 8 Votes Reveal Dem House Leadership Values Illegal Aliens over Law-abiding Gun Owners

The Nancy Pelosi-led House of Representatives passed gun control measures H.R. 8 and H.R. 1112 largely along party lines this week. However, a surprise procedural move by a Republican prior to the passage of H.R. 8 underscored the deep divisions in the Democratic Party along with the depth of the leadership’s deep disdain for gun owners. Moreover, the procedural wrangling around the bill further revealed that gun control efforts are not about confronting criminal conduct involving firearms, but rather about burdening gun owners.

In passing H.R. 8, the House voted to burden law-abiding gun owners by criminalizing the private transfer of firearms, even for temporary transfers and those among friends and extended family. The legislation targets the conduct of law-abiding gun owners, as Department of Justice polling of state and federal inmates shows that a plurality of criminals get their guns from the black market (not including private sales or gun shows).

Just prior to the vote on H.R. 8, Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) made a motion to recommit the legislation to amend it to include a provision that would require the National Instant Criminal Background Check System to notify U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) if an illegal alien attempts to purchase a firearm. Under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(5), it is already a felony for an illegal alien to possess or receive a firearm.

The vote and surrounding furor is instructive in understanding the legislative and political priorities of the Democratic House leadership.

This amendment was aimed at alerting law enforcement to felony conduct among a group championed by Democratic leadership rather than imposing new burdens on law-abiding gun owners, and as such Democratic House leadership vigorously opposed it. Attuned to the terrible optics of voting to attack law-abiding gun owners under the guise of controlling crime while simultaneously appearing to condone obvious felonious conduct brought to the direct attention of the federal government, 26 Democrats defied their leadership and voted in favor of the amendment. The amendment passed 220-209 and subsequently H.R. 8 passed 240-190.

According to reports, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was upset after the successful Republican procedure, targeting Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) with her ire. A reporter for The Hill described the scene, writing,

Wednesday’s drama played out as allied gun control activists from Moms Demand Action and the Brady Campaign sat above in the visitors’ galleries to watch the vote on one of their top priorities…

Pelosi approached Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) with the suggestion that the loss of 26 Democrats on what is typically an easy party-line vote was his responsibility. The confrontation, which took place before a group of members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), angered members of the group, of which Clyburn is a long-standing part.

A Washington Post reporter described Pelosi as “clearly frustrated” after failing to stop the ICE amendment. The paper also described the aftermath of the surprise vote by noting,

finger-pointing began almost immediately in a lengthy floor conference that included the top three Democratic leaders: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (Md.) and Majority Whip James E. Clyburn (S.C.).

Self-described Democratic Socialist and staunch enemy of ICE Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) offered the most outspoken criticism of her Democratic colleagues that voted for the ICE amendment. In a Washington Post article titled, “House Democrats explode in recriminations as liberals lash out at moderates,” Ocasio-Cortez spokesman Corbin Trent was quoted as saying that the freshman congresswoman told her colleagues that those that voted for the amendment “are putting themselves on a list.” Despite claiming that the ICE amendment gave her pause, in the end Ocasio-Cortez’s eagerness to attack gun owners overcame her advocacy for illegal aliens, as she voted to pass the amended H.R. 8.

The message sent by the combination of votes on H.R. 8., and segments of the Democratic caucus’s reaction to them, is clear. Democratic House Leadership believes it is more important to protect illegal aliens from the potential consequences of their felonious conduct than to protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners.

NEW WEBSITE: Illegal Alien Crime Report

A reader sent me a link to a blog focusing on illegal alien crimes.

See it by clicking here.

Screenshot (892)
This is a screenshot of a portion of the site’s banner this morning.

Although I do include violent crimes committed by migrants (aka ‘new Americans’) of all sorts here at Frauds and Crooks, this site looks to be a one-stop shop collecting the worst of the worst cases of violence being perpetrated on our country and our people by those who should not be here in the first place!

Yesterday I questioned why the horrific beheading in Seattle never made the news nationally—one more example of why one must read widely on the web to understand what is happening to America.

I think the future of journalism is in the hands of media outlets/blogs on the net, and so, as I have said on many previous occasions, you should be blogging too either on a specific topic that does not get enough attention by the mainstream media, or for a specific location—your town, city, or state!

Imagine if every town or county had a blog or website competing with a local Leftwing small town paper!

Congress Orders ‘Shields Down’ by Blocking Emergency Declaration

It has been said that “Timing is everything.”

On February 26, 2019 the House of Representatives voted to block President Trump’s declaration of an emergency on the southern border.  Nancy Pelosi and others claimed that the declaration was a violation of the Separation of Powers provisions of the Constitution.

It would appear that failures to secure our nation’s borders against the entry of massive numbers of illegal aliens is a clear violation of our Constitution.

Article IV, Section 4 states:

“The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.”

Invasion is defined, part as:

An incursion by a large number of people or things into a place or sphere of activity:  an unwelcome intrusion into another’s domain.

Furthermore, there would have been no need for any additional action by the administration if Congress had simply voted to fund the construction of a barrier to protect our nation from the illegal and un-inspected entry of people and contraband including narcotics and weapons, into the United States.

Congress failed to act responsibly and in accordance with the oaths of office that each member took to support and defend the Constitution of the United States by preventing invasion and domestic violence.

The media was quick to pick up on the Congressional response to the President’s action to fund the construction of a barrier to protect the vulnerable and highly porous U.S./Mexican border.

On February 26, 2019 Mass Live reported, “Mass. Democrats vote to block President Donald Trump’s national emergency declaration.”  Of course it was not just Massachusetts Democrats who voted against the declaration, but the comments in the article are worth considering.

Also on February 26th, the New York Times reported, “House Votes to Block Trump’s National Emergency Declaration About the Border.”

The action by Congress was not the only story making headlines, on February 26, 2019, however.

On that same day, that the Democrats and some Republicans in the House of Representatives voted against the Presidential declaration of emergency, ABC News reported, “26 years ago: 6 die in 1993 World Trade Center bombing.”

Finally, on February 26, 2019 the Washington Post reported, “Again, 9/11 first responders are pleading with Congress to fund their health care. Again, Jon Stewart is joining them.”

If we were to play the game of “connect the dots,” there is a common thread that connects these news reports: the issue of national security and the threats posed to America and Americans by terrorism and the consequences of failures of the immigration system that enabled foreign terrorists to enter the United States and carry out deadly terror attacks in 1993 and again in September 11, 2001.

While a barrier on the U.S./Mexican border wouldn’t, by itself solve the immigration crisis, it is a vital element of what must be a multi-pronged approach to secure our nation and protect our citizens.

After the attacks of 9/11, politicians from both parties demanded to know, “Why weren’t the dots connected?”

Since the attacks of September 11, 2001 the dots have been repeatedly connected, all too often in the wake of additional deadly terror attacks conducted by alien terrorists who easily gained entry into the United States by a variety of means.

Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, the leader of the extremely violent Mexican Sinaloa drug cartel was just convicted of smuggling huge quantities of narcotics into the United States across the U.S./Mexican border.  His organization is responsible for numerous murders and crimes of violence and corruption.

There have been a long list of Congressional hearings and official government reports that warn that among the numerous threats that the U.S. faces around the world, many of those threats emanate from Latin America.

On January 29, 2019 the Senate Intelligence Committee conducted a hearing on Worldwide Threats that was predicated on a just-released paper, “World-Wide Threat Assessment,” that was issued by Daniel Coats, the Director of the Office of National Intelligence, which oversees the U.S. intelligence community.

Here is an excerpt from that report:

Transnational Organized Crime

Global transnational criminal organizations and networks will threaten US interests and allies by trafficking drugs, exerting malign influence in weak states, threatening critical infrastructure, orchestrating human trafficking, and undermining legitimate economic activity.

Drug Trafficking

The foreign drug threat will pose continued risks to US public health and safety and will present a range of threats to US national security interests in the coming year. Violent Mexican traffickers, such as members of the Sinaloa Cartel and New Generation Jalisco Cartel, remain key to the movement of illicit drugs to the United States, including heroin, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cannabis from Mexico, as well as cocaine from Colombia. Chinese synthetic drug suppliers dominate US-bound movements of so- called designer drugs, including synthetic marijuana, and probably ship the majority of US fentanyl, when adjusted for purity.

Approximately 70,000 Americans died from drug overdoses in 2017, a record high and a 10-percent increase from 2016, although the rate of growth probably slowed in early 2018, based on Centers for Disease Control (CDC) data.

Increased drug fatalities are largely a consequence of surging production of the synthetic opioid fentanyl; in 2017, more than 28,000 Americans died from synthetic opioids other than methadone, including illicitly manufactured fentanyl. The CDC reports synthetic opioid- related deaths rose 846 percent between 2010 and 2017, while DHS reports that US seizures of the drug increased 313 percent from 2016 to 2017.

Other Organized Crime Activities

Transnational criminal organizations and their affiliates are likely to expand their influence over some weak states, collaborate with US adversaries, and possibly threaten critical infrastructure.

Mexican criminals use bribery, intimidation, and violence to protect their drug trafficking, kidnapping-for-ransom, fuel-theft, gunrunning, extortion, and alien-smuggling enterprises.

Gangs based in Central America, such as MS-13, continue to direct some criminal activities beyond the region, including in the United States.

Transnational organized crime almost certainly will continue to inflict human suffering, deplete natural resources, degrade fragile ecosystems, drive migration, and drain income from the productive—and taxable—economy.

Human trafficking generates an estimated $150 billion annually for illicit actors and governments that engage in forced labor, according to the UN’s International Labor Organization.

The first paragraph of the preface of the official report,  9/11 and Terrorist Travel, will provide my “closing argument” against the Congressional betrayal that America is now witnessing:

It is perhaps obvious to state that terrorists cannot plan and carry out attacks in the United States if they are unable to enter the country. Yet prior to September 11, while there were efforts to enhance border security, no agency of the U.S. government thought of border security as a tool in the counterterrorism arsenal. Indeed, even after 19 hijackers demonstrated the relative ease of obtaining a U.S. visa and gaining admission into the United States, border security still is not considered a cornerstone of national security policy. We believe, for reasons we discuss in the following pages, that it must be made one.

Seattle Decapitation Murder Involved ‘New Americans’?

This must be an example of the *diversity and cultural enrichment* that we’ve been promised by the Democrats….

(Grim, a commenter at the Hal Turner Radio Show)

Reader Kris sent me this story and remarked that there was very little to be found in the news on the early-February murder and the police officer-involved shooting that finished off the murderer, and she is right.

If you go to Hal Turner Radio Show to view the police cam video, don’t open it if you are squeamish.

Kris is right.  Although some of the story is available at the Seattle Times, I had to go to the UK Daily Mail for what really happened.  Why didn’t this story make national news?

Police release footage of the moment an agitated knife-wielding suspect is shot dead by cops after ‘murdering his girlfriend by beheading her’ in a Seattle apartment

A knife-wielding suspect thought to have killed his girlfriend by ‘beheading’ her was shot dead by police when officers stormed the apartment.

Officers were called to a suspected domestic violence incident in Seattle and had to force the door open on February 7 at around 3.30am.

Seattle murderer and victim
Victim Vaquedano and alleged killer Rodriquez.  No mention of their immigration status.

Police found the suspect, named by police as Danny Rodriguez, 34, brandishing a knife and appearing agitated.

Officers soon noticed the weapon and shouted, ‘oh s***, get out’ with the second cop saying, ‘he’s got a knife’, as they peered through the crack of the door and saw the suspect inside the apartment.

Both officers told the man to ‘stay right there, don’t move, we will shoot you’ and ordered him to, ‘stop, don’t touch the knife’, before telling him to ‘look away’ and to ‘get down on the ground’.

They then saw a woman’s body lying on the floor, with one of the two cops saying ‘s***, she’s had her head cut off’.

The victim was later identified as 48-year-old Irma Rodriguez Vaquedano.

[….]

The Seattle Police Officers Guild (SPOG) told the Seattle Times in a statement: ‘The suspect acted aggressively and gave the officers no choice but to fire their weapons to stop this threat.’

[….]

…. family members of Vaquedano, who is thought to be from Honduras, told Colombian newspaper El Heraldo, that the pair had been a couple for several years.

More here.

I guess it is going to be up to you to make sure this ‘diversity is beautiful’ news gets out more widely!

The Truth About Immigration Can Unite All Americans

America has become dangerously polarized and immigration has become one of the most divisive issues.

In this climate of strident and aggressive confrontations, Americans are reluctant to engage in an open discussion. They have been intimidated by the radical left.

Who could ever forget Congresswoman Maxine Waters exhorting her followers to confront members of the Trump administration in public, or New York’s Governor Cuomo vilifying ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents, calling them thugs, inciting attacks on ICE agents.

Providing the truth about immigration would unite all Americans irrespective of their political orientations, in the understanding that border security and fair but effective immigration law enforcement are vital for national security, public safety, the livelihoods and wages of American workers, and a host of other issues.

The acrimonious arguments about immigration are not based on facts but on a fiction created by globalists whose tactics and use of deceptive language come directly from George Orwell’s “1984,” blurring the distinction between illegal aliens and lawful immigrants. This is damaging and insulting to lawful immigrants.

To provide a bit of clarity, the difference between an illegal alien and a lawful immigrant is comparable to the difference between a houseguest and a burglar.

We often refer to America as a “nation of immigrants” and, in point of fact, last year the United States, even under the Trump administration that has been falsely accused of being “anti-immigrant,” admitted more than one million lawful immigrants — that is more than the rest of the world combined.

President Jimmy Carter cynically mandated that INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service) employees substitute the bogus term “Undocumented Immigrants” for the term “Illegal Aliens.”

The term “Alien” is not a pejorative. It is a legal term that simply means, “Any person, not a citizen or national of the United States.”

Over time Carter’s deceptive language profoundly skewed public perceptions about immigration law enforcement.

I addressed these tactics “sleight of tongue” in my article, “Language Wars: The Road to Tyranny Is Paved with Language Censorship.”

The immigration system has become a highly efficient delivery system that delivers an unlimited supply of cheap and exploitable labor, an unlimited supply of foreign tourists, a nearly unlimited supply of foreign students, and a limitless supply of clients for immigration lawyers.

Consider that a massive amnesty program would not get the illegal aliens “out of the shadows” but into the waiting rooms of immigration law firms across America.

This why both the Democrats and the Republicans claim that since we cannot arrest and deport 11 million illegal aliens, ostensibly, the best “solution” is to provide them with lawful status.

This is a “bait and switch” tactic that takes immigration law enforcement off the table as a means of countering massive levels of immigration law violations, replacing it with a debate about whether to place these heretofore illegal aliens on pathways to citizenship or “only” provide illegal aliens with lawful status, permission to work, and the right to bring their families to the United States.

The Democrats have created Sanctuary Cities and called for dismantling of ICE. However, neither party has ever proposed hiring more ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents to address the immigration crisis. Currently there are about 6,000 ICE agents for the entire United States of America and more than half of ICE’s resources are focused on customs law enforcement and other law violations that have nothing to do with immigration.

Contrast that ridiculous number with the 45,000 employees of the TSA and the NYPD’s more than 37,000 police officers to protect New York City.

Mandatory E-Verify has been proposed but never approved. However, even with mandatory E-Verify, without ICE agents to conduct field investigation, unscrupulous employers could simply successfully hire their illegal workforce “off the books.”

As Americans we all share common goals. We must emphasize those common goals in discussions with our fellow Americans to combat the “divide and conquer” strategies of the globalists of both parties.

All Americans, irrespective of superficial factors such as race, religion, or ethnicity, want our military to keep our enemies as far from our shores as possible, our police to keep our communities safe, and our schools to effectively educate our children so that any child willing to study hard, work hard, and benefit from a bit of luck can write the next success story.

Many decent and compassionate Americans have been conned into believing that those who support secure borders and effective but fair immigration law enforcement are bigots, xenophobes, and racists when nothing could be further from the truth.

Our fellow Americans are not our adversaries but our allies, if we can win them over. The truth, the facts, laws, commonsense, and morality are all on our side.

Effective but fair immigration law enforcement is essential for all of those goals noted above.

Let the fact-based discussions begin!

Sanctuary Cities Support Corporate Welfare

Newly elected congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez jumped for joy when Amazon decided not to build its second headquarters in New York City because of hostility that the company encountered when it was suddenly disclosed that in order to entice the mega-company to the Big Apple, a closed-door deal had been reached that would have given Amazon a three billion dollar tax break.

The unrelated backdrop for this is that it took place even as New York City is gearing up to implement a “congesting pricing” tax that would require drivers who drive their vehicles into midtown Manhattan during business hours to pay a sort of toll.

This will certainly impose a hardship on those who must drive into the heart of New York City, and cab drivers who are unable to pay their bills now will be devastated by this new fee slapped on them by politicians.

However, Amazon, one of the wealthiest corporations in the U.S. if not the world, would have been given a three billion dollar tax break! This takes chutzpah to a new level.

Ocasio-Cortez referred to that deal as a blatant example of “corporate welfare.” She was actually right about this. (Even a broken clock is right every 12 hours.)

On February 18, 2019 Fox News reported, “Bill de Blasio corrects Ocasio-Cortez’s claim about spending Amazon tax break money.”

Even as the laughter was dying down from Ocasio-Cortez’s supposed “reasoning” involving the non-existent “windfall” from the massive tax cut that would not be given to Amazon, New York’s Governor Cuomo was throwing a near temper tantrum, angered and frustrated that the deal had fallen through. Mayor Bill de Blasio, who had been involved with the negotiations and was initially angered by Amazon’s decision, decided to turn political lemons into lemonade by criticizing Amazon for not attempting to work out a compromise.

Cuomo bemoaned the loss of thousands of jobs that will not be coming to New York along with the shiny new second headquarters that Amazon had planned to build in Queens.

Clearly that backroom deal by the Democrat Governor and Democrat Mayor with Amazon would have constituted a blatant example of corporate welfare. However, these sweetheart deals are more often than not precisely how huge corporations that make huge campaign contributions throw their corporate weight around to get breaks when they want to set up shop in a particular city or state.

Certainly the issue of corporate welfare plays well in the public square.

There is, however, another and even more blatant, pernicious, pervasive and devastating form of corporate welfare: the displacement of millions of American workers by foreign workers and the suppression of wages for all workers.

Companies that hire foreign workers to displace American workers do so not because there is a real shortage of qualified Americans. They do so because the only thing “exceptional” about the great majority of foreign workers is that they are willing to work for exceptionally low wages under exceptionally adverse conditions, and here we are talking about not only illegal alien workers but foreign workers who enter the United States with appropriate visas such as the H-1B visa.

This helps to boost corporate profits and the wages of CEOs and other corporate leaders, literally at the expense of hapless American workers.

I addressed this massive betrayal of America and Americans in my articles, “Open Borders Facilitate America’s Race To The Bottom“Cheap labor” is anything but cheap” and “Corporate America’s War On The Middle ClassH-1B visa program being used to displace Americans.”

An abject lack of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents (there are about 6,000 for the entire country and half aren’t doing immigration law enforcement) guarantees that these important immigration laws go unenforced.  This lack of agents is entirely calculated and intentional on the part of the leadership of both political parties.

This was the underlying premise behind my article, “Sanctuary Country – Immigration failures by design.”

Democrats devised the outrageous notion of “Sanctuary Cities” to ostensibly protect “immigrants” from immigration law enforcement authorities, cynically claiming that they are being compassionate. In reality, “Sanctuary Cities Protect Crooked Employers And Human TraffickersExploitation of the vulnerable is anything but “compassionate.”

Indeed, “Sanctuary” jurisdictions are actually bastions of immigration anarchy that shield criminal aliens, human traffickers, transnational gangs, crooked immigration lawyers who participate in immigration fraud conspiracies and unscrupulous employers.

Among the biggest losers, in addition to the victims of the crimes perpetrated by criminal aliens, are American and lawful immigrant workers who lose their jobs to illegal alien workers who have been encouraged and emboldened to flock to those corrupt jurisdictions, confident that they will have little to fear from ICE agents.

Radical leftist politicians who demand that ICE be disbanded, seek an escalation of the most insidious form of “Corporate Welfare” at the direct expense of American workers and American taxpayers.

Politicians on all levels of government frequently promise that if elected they will “create jobs.”

What is seldom stated by the politicians and particularly political thugs such as Governor Cuomo who outrageously has referred to ICE agents as “thugs” is the need to “liberate jobs.” As you will see, we will see how jobs can be easily liberated, but first let’s consider that jobs are, of course, a big deal. Work is important. Work enables people to support themselves and their families. Work may actually help to define who we are as human beings. Being fired from a job can be extremely traumatic and even negatively impact the health of the person who loses his/her job.

One of the key elements of our nation’s immigration laws is to prevent foreign workers from taking jobs in the United States if they do not have the appropriate visa. In point of fact one of the statues comprehended within the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) is 8 U.S. Code § 1182 that enumerates the categories of aliens who are inadmissible into the United States.

Here is a section of that statute that specifically addresses the issue of protecting the jobs of American workers:

            (5) Labor certification and qualifications for certain immigrants

(A) Labor certification

(i) In general Any alien who seeks to enter the United States for the purpose of performing skilled or unskilled labor is inadmissible, unless the Secretary of Labor has determined and certified to the Secretary of State and the Attorney General that—

(I) there are not sufficient workers who are able, willing, qualified (or equally qualified in the case of an alien described in clause (ii)) and available at the time of application for a visa and admission to the United States and at the place where the alien is to perform such skilled or unskilled labor, and

(II) the employment of such alien will not adversely affect the wages and working conditions of workers in the United States similarly employed.

This is, in part, why aliens who apply for admission into the United States at a port of entry on temporary visas are questioned as to their financial capacity to pay for their expenses and to provide proof that they are planning to return to their home countries within the time period for which they are admitted into the United States.

Of course aliens who enter the United States illegally are subject to arrest and deportation by virtue of their having violated our immigration laws from the moment that they set foot in the country. However, aliens who seek gainful employment to which they are not entitled are also subject to deportation.

Aliens who violate their visas are often referred to as “visa overstays.” However, most aliens who overstay their visas don’t do so just to do more sightseeing in the United States but likely to work illegally. What is almost never discussed by the media is that aliens who have not overstayed their nonimmigrant (temporary) visas but who violate the terms of their visas renders them subject to arrest and deportation. Aliens who work illegally commit such a violation even if they have no criminal history.

When I was an INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service) agent my colleagues and I would, as a matter of routine, arrest such alien visa status violators if we found them working without authority at a factory or other employment venue.

I mentioned the need to “liberate jobs” earlier in this article. Those factory raids and similar workplace investigations resulted in the liberation of jobs. Removing illegal alien workers from those jobs freed up those jobs for American and lawful immigrant workers and also sent a clear message that any alien who would violate our border, immigration laws and/or their terms of their lawful admission into the United States would face serious consequences.

It was personally satisfying to remove an illegal workforce from a factory and then drive by that same factory later that day or the next day and see a line of job applicants waiting to be interviewed for a job.

Nancy Pelosi has repeatedly said the enforcement our immigration laws created a climate of fear among the members of the immigration communities. Actually, such law enforcement actions created a climate of deterrence.

Politicians such as Andrew Cuomo have said that immigrants need to be protected from immigration law enforcement. In reality, aliens who abide by our laws have nothing to fear. Licensed motorists who drive their vehicles in accordance with motor vehicle laws need no protection from the police. However, drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol or drive recklessly should not be shielded but arrested by the police. The very same principle must apply to aliens who violate our laws.

The Democratic Party used to support these efforts to protect American workers. However, today’s Democrats are nothing like the traditional ones. The old Democratic Party used to stand behind American workers like my dad, who was a tradesman. Today when Democrats stand behind American workers, those workers better look out!

Border Patrol Chief Agrees With Trump That There Is a Border Crisis

EDITORS NOTE: This FrontPage Magazine column with images is republished with permission.

30-Foot Border Wall Begins Construction In California

Several days after President Donald Trump declared a national emergency, construction began on the fifth border wall project of his administration.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced Tuesday that work has started on replacing 14 miles of a steel-mesh fence along the U.S.-Mexico border near San Diego, The Associated Press reported. The fence is being replaced with 30-foot high steel bollards. It is actually the second layer of barrier to be put up in the area, with the first layer nearly complete.

SLSCO Ltd., a company located in Galveston, Texas, scored the $101 million contract in December 2018. The Trump administration has already awarded around $1 billion in contracts to cover 97 miles of the southern border, with the project in San Diego being one of the latest.

Trump touted the construction Wednesday of a border wall in New Mexico.

WATCH:

Progress continues after the president secured billions more in funding for border wall construction.

Trump signed into law an appropriations bill earlier in February that doles out $1.375 billion for 55 miles of new wall, an amount immigration hardliners said was not enough. However, the president then took the controversial step on Feb. 15 of declaring a national emergency, which allowed him to allocate a total of about $8 billion in federal funds.

The emergency order has been adamantly opposed by Democrats and progressive groups.

A coalition of 16 states, led by California, filed suit against the president on Monday in an attempt to strike down the crisis declaration. A number of liberal organizations, such as the American Civil Liberties Union and the Center for Biological Diversity, have also leveled suits against the administration.
