Lloyd Marcus

Unhyphenated American Lloyd Marcus does what he does best, express himself via his music.

Music is soothing to the ears. With the heated rhetoric of the 2016 presidential campaign it is refreshing to listen to a parody song done by a true patriot.

Please listen to and share the “Trump Train Parody Song” with your friends and on social media.

Lyrics “Lloyd Marcus’ Trump Train”:

People of America
Join hands
Join the Trump train, Trump train
Make America great
Again
Join the Trump train, Trump train

We have got to stop crooked Hillary
She is corrupt and a liar, too
We can’t stand any more of her deception
If we do, our country, country is through

Well, well

People of America
Join hands
Join the Trump train, Trump train
Make America great
Again
Join the Trump train, Trump train

C’mon all you brothers up in Detroit
Tell all the folks in Miami and LA too
Voters are taking back their country
From politicians who betrayed me and you

Well

People of America
Join hands
Join the Trump train, Trump train
Make American great
Again
Join the Trump train, Trump train

Ride, let it ride
Let it ride
Let it ride

People of America
Join in
Join the Trump train, Trump train
Make American great
Again
Join the Trump train, Trump train

Trump on the legacy of Hillary Clinton: ‘Death, destruction, terrorism and weakness’

During his acceptance speech Donald Trump draws 61 lines in the sand

VIDEO: D’Soua speaks to young Americans about the Secret History of the Democratic Party

New York Times best-selling author and filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza spoke to a sold out crowd of conservative students at the Young America’s Foundation High School Conference at the Reagan Ranch.

We suggest you start viewing at the 3:25 mark:

yaf logoABOUT THE YOUNG AMERICA’S FOUNDATION

Young America’s Foundation is committed to ensuring that increasing numbers of young Americans understand and are inspired by the ideas of individual freedom, a strong national defense, free enterprise, and traditional values.

As the principal outreach organization of the Conservative Movement, the Foundation introduces thousands of American youth to these principles. We accomplish our mission by providing essential conferences, seminars, educational materials, internships, and speakers to young people across the country.

Young America’s Foundation stepped forward to save President Reagan’s Western White House, Rancho del Cielo, in the spring of 1998 to preserve it as a living monument to Ronald Reagan to pass on his ideas to future generations. President Reagan committed himself to reaching young people with his ideas—a goal that is also central to the Foundation’s mission.

Preserving the Ranch and passing on the President’s lasting accomplishments is Young America’s Foundation’s way of thanking Ronald Reagan for all he has done for his country and the world. His beloved ranch is a place of learning, a place of encouragement and a place of inspiration for generations to come. The Reagan Ranch Center in downtown Santa Barbara is a “schoolhouse for Reaganism” where young and old alike can visit and learn more about one of America’s greatest presidents.

For more than 30 years, the National Journalism Center has trained aspiring journalists in the values of balanced, responsible and accurate reporting. Weekly seminars and on-the-job experience provide participants with the tools to become a leader in combating bias in the mainstream media.

Founded in 1977, more than 1,600 alumni have graduated from NJC’s 12-week training sessions, and some 900 of these have gone on to media and media-related positions.

In 2011, Young America’s Foundation unified with Young Americans for Freedom, which serves as the Foundation’s chapter affiliate on college and high school campuses across the country. Founded by William F. Buckley, Jr. and a group of young conservatives in 1961 at his home in Sharon, Connecticut, Young Americans for Freedom today promotes to youth the principles of limited government, individual freedom, free enterprise, a strong national defense, and traditional values, as outlined in the Sharon Statement. The chapters accomplish this by participating in a wide range of campus initiatives, such as the 9/11: Never Forget Project, Freedom Week, and the GPA Redistribution Contest, among others; and by hosting prominent conservative speakers.

Young America’s Foundation’s Center for Entrepreneurship & Free Enterprise educates and inspires young people to defend and articulate free enterprise principles. The Center’s program aim to popularize the ideas of free markets, limited government, and lower taxes necessary to generate economic growth and prosperity for more Americans.

Kerry: Air conditioners as big a threat as the Islamic State

Stop laughing. Kerry is right. Watch for the next mass shooting by your air conditioner. Remember all those manifestos your air conditioner issued, vowing the imminent destruction of the U.S.

“Kerry: Air Conditioners as Big a Threat as ISIS,” by Alyssa Canobbio, Washington Free Beacon, July 22, 2016:

Secretary of State John Kerry said in Vienna on Friday that air conditioners and refrigerators are as big of a threat to life as the threat of terrorism posed by groups like the Islamic State.

The Washington Examiner reported that Kerry was in Vienna to amend the 1987 Montreal Protocol that would phase out hydrofluorocarbons, or HFCs, from basic household and commercial appliances like air conditioners, refrigerators, and inhalers.

“As we were working together on the challenge of [ISIS] and terrorism,” Kerry said. “It’s hard for some people to grasp it, but what we–you–are doing here right now is of equal importance because it has the ability to literally save life on the planet itself.”

Kerry said that most of the substances banned in the Montreal Protocol have increased the use of HFCs and claimed that the coolant was thousands of times more potent than CO2. He added that the increase of HFCs has lead to the trend of global climate change.

“The use of hydrofluorocarbons is unfortunately growing,” Kerry said. “Already, the HFCs use in refrigerators, air conditioners, and other items are emitting an entire gigaton of carbon dioxide-equivalent pollution into the atmosphere annually. Now, if that sounds like a lot, my friends, it’s because it is. It’s the equivalent to emissions from nearly 300 coal-fired power plants every single year.”…

“Munich shooting: Gunman acted alone, say police,” BBC, July 22, 2016:

A shooting at a Munich shopping centre which left nine people dead was carried out by one gunman who then killed himself, German police have said.

The suspect was an 18-year-old German-Iranian dual national who lived in Munich, police told a news conference, but his motive is unclear.

More than 20 people were injured, three critically, police added.

A huge manhunt was launched following reports that up to three gunmen had been involved in the attack.

The body of the suspect was found about 1km (0.6 miles) from the Olympia shopping centre in the north-western suburb of Moosach.

Munich police chief Hubertus Andrae told the news conference early on Saturday that the suspect had not been known to police and there were no known links to terror groups, although investigations were continuing.

The reports of three suspected attackers came when witnesses saw two people leaving the scene in a car “at considerable speed”, but they were later confirmed not to be involved, he added.

“The motive or explanation for this crime is completely unclear,” he said….

The CBS Cover-up of ‘Hillary Rodham Clinton’s war on gun rights’

BELLEVUE, Wash. /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The Second Amendment Foundation today condemned attempts by the agenda-driven media, led by CBS, to provide cover for Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton’s war on gun rights by trying to debunk Republican Donald Trump’s statement Thursday night that Clinton “wants to essentially abolish the Second Amendment.”

Donald Trump during his acceptance speech warned,

[I]f you want to hear the corporate spin, the carefully-crafted lies, and the media myths — the Democrats are holding their convention next week.

“CBS News and others argue that Trump’s allegation is not true, and that ‘Clinton has spoken up for Second Amendment rights on several occasions,'” noted SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “They are being disingenuous at best, and they know it.

“More than a year ago,” he recalled, “Clinton made gun control a cornerstone of her campaign. She talked about using Australia’s gun confiscation as something that might be considered. She told a private fund raiser last October that she thinks the Supreme Court was wrong on the Second Amendment, and in an interview withGeorge Stephanopoulos, she even questioned whether the Second Amendment protects an individual right.

“While admitting that Clinton wants to renew the ban on modern sporting rifles and repeal a law that protects firearms manufacturers from frivolous harassment lawsuits, the official media spin today is that she’s never actually said she would abolish the Second Amendment,” Gottlieb stated. “That’s like saying an arsonist really doesn’t intend to burn a building, even though he’s splashing gasoline on the walls.

“The media has adopted the anti-gun lobby’s lexicon,” he added. “They routinely use deceptive terms like ‘gun safety’ and ‘gun violence prevention’ when they are really talking about gun control or gun prohibition. It is intellectually dishonest and we’re going to call them on it.”

He said SAF will soon launch a “Media Action Plan” to counter what he calls “rapidly growing anti-gun propaganda in the news media.”

“The media wants to build a wall around Hillary Clinton,” he said, “protecting her anti-gun agenda from public scrutiny. We are going to tear down that wall, brick by deceptive brick. A right that is strangled by regulation isn’t a right at all, but a highly-restricted government-controlled privilege. The media is wrong to water down Clinton’s gun control agenda, and we intend to reveal the truth.”

ABOUT THE SECOND AMENDMENT FOUNDATION

The Second Amendment Foundation (www.saf.org) is the nation’s oldest and largest tax-exempt education, research, publishing and legal action group focusing on the Constitutional right and heritage to privately own and possess firearms.  Founded in 1974, The Foundation has grown to more than 650,000 members and supporters and conducts many programs designed to better inform the public about the consequences of gun control.

Trump on the legacy of Hillary Clinton: ‘Death, destruction, terrorism and weakness’

Donald Trump “humbly and gratefully” accepted the nomination as the Republican candidate for the President of the United States on Thursday, July 21st, 2016, the first time a non-politician has won a Republican Primary since George Washington.

Trump warned,

[I]f you want to hear the corporate spin, the carefully-crafted lies, and the media myths — the Democrats are holding their convention next week.

During his acceptance speech Trump mention Hillary Clinton twenty-three times. Here are quotes from his acceptance speech directed at Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic Party nominee:

  1. America is far less safe and the world is far less stable than when Obama made the decision to put Hillary Clinton in charge of America’s foreign policy. I am certain it is a decision he truly regrets.
  2. Her bad instincts and her bad judgment, something pointed out by Bernie Sanders are what caused the disasters unfolding today.
  3. In 2009, pre-Hillary, ISIS was not even on the map. Libya was stable. Egypt was peaceful. Iraq had seen a big reduction in violence. Iran was being choked by sanctions. Syria was somewhat under control.
  4. After four years of Hillary Clinton, what do we have? ISIS has spread across the region and the entire world. Libya is in ruins, and our ambassador and his staff were left helpless to die at the hands of savage killers. Egypt was turned over to the radical Muslim Brotherhood, forcing the military to retake control. Iraq is in chaos. Iran is on the path to nuclear weapons. Syria is engulfed in a civil war and a refugee crisis that now threatens the West. After 15 years of wars in the Middle East, after trillions of dollars spent and thousands of lives lost, the situation is worse than it has ever been before.
  5. This is the legacy of Hillary Clinton: Death, destruction and terrorism and weakness.
  6. But Hillary Clinton’s legacy does not have to be America’s legacy. The problems we face now — poverty and violence at home, war and destruction abroad — will last only as long as we continue relying on the same politicians who created them. A change in leadership is required to produce a change in outcomes.
  7. Big business, elite media and major donors are lining up behind the campaign of my opponent because they know she will keep our rigged system in place. They are throwing money at her because they have total control over every single thing she does. She is their puppet, and they pull the strings. That is why Hillary Clinton’s message is that things will never change. Never ever.
  8. And when a Secretary of State illegally stores her emails on a private server, deletes 33,000 of them so the authorities can’t see her crime, puts our country at risk, lies about it in every different form and faces no no consequence — I know that corruption has reached a level like never ever before in our country.
  9. When the FBI director says that the Secretary of State was “extremely careless” and “negligent” in handling our classified secrets, I also know that these terms are minor compared to what she actually did. They were just used to save her from facing justice for her terrible, terrible crimes.
  10. In fact, her single greatest accomplishment may be committing such an egregious crime and getting away with it, especially when others who have been far less have paid so dearly.
  11. When that same Secretary of State rakes in millions of dollars trading access and favors to special interests and foreign powers, I know the time for action has come.
  12. We must abandon the failed policy of nation- building and regime change that Hillary Clinton pushed in Iraq, Libya, in Egypt, and Syria.
  13. My opponent has called for a radical 550 percent increase — think of this, this is not believable, but this is what is happening — a 550 percent increase in Syrian refugees on top of existing massive refugee flows coming into our country already under the leadership of president Obama.
  14. She proposes this despite the fact that there’s no way to screen these refugees in order to find out who they are or where they come from. I only want to admit individuals into our country who will support our values and love our people. Anyone who endorses violence, hatred or oppression is not welcome in our country and never ever will be.
  15. My opponent will never meet with them [families who have lost loved ones killed by illegal aliens], or share in their pain. Believe me. Instead, my opponent wants sanctuary cities. But where was sanctuary for Kate Steinle? Where was sanctuary for the children of Mary Ann, Sabine and Jamiel?
  16. My plan is the exact opposite of the radical and dangerous immigration policy of Hillary Clinton. Americans want relief from uncontrolled immigration. Which is what we have now. Communities want relief. Yet Hillary Clinton is proposing mass amnesty, mass immigration, and mass lawlessness.
  17. Her plan will overwhelm your schools and hospitals, further reduce your jobs and wages, and make it harder for recent immigrants to escape from the tremendous cycle of poverty they are going through right now and make it almost impossible for them to join the middle class.
  18. My opponent, on the other hand, has supported virtually every trade agreement that has been destroying our middle class. She supported NAFTA, and she supported China’s entrance into the world trade organization. Another one of her husband’s colossal mistakes and disasters. She supported the job killing trade deal with South Korea. She she supported the Trans-Pacific Partnership which will not only destroy our manufacturing but it will make America subject to the rulings of foreign governments. And it is not going to happen.
  19. While Hillary Clinton plans a massive, and I mean massive, tax increase, I have proposed the largest tax reduction of any candidate who has run for president this year, Democrat or Republican.
  20. We are going to lift the restrictions on the production of American energy. This will produce more than $20 trillion in job-creating economic activity over the next four decades. My opponent, on the other hand, wants to put the great miners and steelworkers of our country out of work and out of business.
  21. My opponent dismissed the VA scandal, one more sign of how out of touch she really is.
  22. My opponent wants to essentially abolish the 2nd Amendment.
  23. My opponent asks her supporters to recite a three-word loyalty pledge. It reads: “I’m with her.” I choose to recite a different pledge. My pledge reads: “I’m with you the American people.”

Test Your Climate Knowledge with Five Easy Questions

Climate Change Dispatch has a five question test to see if you understand climate change. Here it is. Take it and see how you do.

If your friends can’t understand why you don’t believe in man-made global warming, give them this simple, five-question quiz. They may realize they don’t know as much about global warming as they think.

1. The primary greenhouse gas in the atmosphere is:

[a] Nitrous Oxide

[b] Carbon Dioxide

[c] Methane

[d] Water Vapor

2. Carbon dioxide comprises what percentage of the Earth’s atmosphere?

[a] 400%

[b] 40%

[c] 4%

[d] 0.04%

3. When reviewing our planet’s long geologic history, the current level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is:

[a] Among the highest levels ever recorded

[b] Among the lowest levels ever recorded

[c] About average

4. Each new molecule of carbon dioxide added to the atmosphere traps:

[a] The same amount of heat as the previous additional molecule

[b] More heat than the previous molecule

[c] Less heat than the previous molecule

5. In the twentieth century, solar output was:

[a] The same as it’s always been

[b] The lowest in 1,000 years.

[c] The highest in 1,000 years.

ANSWERS:

1. [d] Water vapor. Roughly 80% of the Earth’s “greenhouse effect” is sustained by water vapor.

2. [d] 0.04%. Carbon dioxide is a minor constituent in the atmosphere, which is dominated by Nitrogen (78%) and Oxygen (21%).

3. [b] Carbon dioxide levels are currently among the lowest ever recorded in Earth’s 4.5-billion-year history.

4. [c] Less heat. Carbon dioxide follows a logarithmically declining function. That means, it exponentially loses the ability to trap heat as its concentration increases.

5. [c] The highest in 1,000 years. Starting in the latter part of the 1800s, solar activity ramped back up to the peak output previously seen during the Roman Warm Period (250-400 AD) and the Medieval Warm Period (950-1250 AD).

Will President Trump sign into law H.R. 25, the Fair Tax?

Donald Trump said this during his acceptance speech in Cleveland:

Next comes the reform of our tax laws, regulations and energy rules. While Hillary Clinton plans a massive, and I mean massive, tax increase, I have proposed the largest tax reduction of any candidate who has run for president this year, Democrat or Republican. Middle-income Americans will experience profound relief, and taxes will be greatly simplified for everyone. I mean everyone.

America is one of the highest-taxed nations in the world. Reducing taxes will cause new companies and new jobs to come roaring back into our country. Believe me. It will happen and it will happen fast. [Emphasis added]

Former Congressman, current Indiana Governor and Vice Presidential nominee, Mike Pence responded to a question about the FairTax resolution H.R. 25. The question was asked during a Town Hall forum in Anderson, Indiana, on April 16, 2009. Here Pence’s response:

Dave Leake a supporter of H.R. 25, the FairTax notes:

[W]hile speaking off the cuff, Pence got a couple things not quite right, and also failed to mention some important stuff. The government rebate (“prebate” as FAIRtaxers call it) would be paid every month, not quarterly. And, for every legal family of three, it would amount this year to $6,417, paid in monthly increments of $535. The size of the prebate is solely determined by family size, NOT on what you spend or earn.

That prebate does not include the pay raise for every family. That pay raise will be equal to every dime taken right now from your pay for income taxes, payroll tax, and FICA.

To learn more about the FairTax visit: FairTax.org/FAQ, FairTaxNation.com or FLFairTax.org

The FairTax Act of 2015 reads:

This bill is a tax reform proposal that imposes a national sales tax on the use or consumption in the United States of taxable property or services in lieu of the current income and corporate income tax, employment and self-employment taxes, and estate and gift taxes. The rate of the sales tax will be 23% in 2017, with adjustments to the rate in subsequent years. There are exemptions from the tax for used and intangible property, for property or services purchased for business, export, or investment purposes, and for state government functions.

Under the bill, family members who are lawful U.S. residents receive a monthly sales tax rebate (Family Consumption Allowance) based upon criteria related to family size and poverty guidelines.

The states have the responsibility for administering, collecting, and remitting the sales tax to the Treasury.

Tax revenues are to be allocated among: (1) the general revenue, (2) the old-age and survivors insurance trust fund, (3) the disability insurance trust fund, (4) the hospital insurance trust fund, and (5) the federal supplementary medical insurance trust fund.

No funding is allowed for the operations of the Internal Revenue Service after FY2019.

Finally, the bill terminates the national sales tax if the Sixteenth Amendment to the Constitution (authorizing an income tax) is not repealed within seven years after the enactment of this Act.

The Ugly Truth Behind a College’s ‘Diversity’ Requirement

Hamilton College has for years had an open curriculum, allowing students the freedom to shape their education as they think best. Whether that’s a good idea is debatable, but the college is about to move in the opposite direction by instituting a “diversity requirement” for all students.

As a resident fellow at the Alexander Hamilton Institute for the last year, I have watched this drama unfold on the Hamilton College campus. This depressing story reveals much about the tactics of the academic left. A small group of radical but powerful professors, claiming to act on behalf of students, succeeded in instituting the diversity requirement.

Due to their efforts, starting in the 2017-18 academic year, every concentration will require a dedicated course or combination of courses to teach about “structural and institutional hierarchies based on one or more of the social categories of race, class, gender, ethnicity, nationality, religion, sexuality, age, and abilities/disabilities.”

These specious topics furthermore ask students to “critically engag[e] with multiple cultural traditions and perspectives, and with interpersonal situations that enhance understanding of different identities. . . .” and to develop “an awareness of the challenges and responsibilities of local, national and global citizenship.” None of that will help Hamilton students who want to master one or more academic disciplines. Injecting those leftist tropes will be a distraction, or worse.

As further indication of the lack of scholarly justification, an email from Associate Dean of the Faculty Penny L. Yee, the administrator charged with overseeing each department’s implementation of the requirement, indicated that “ongoing discussions” involve questions about outcomes, faculty members’ “understanding of diversity,” and challenges to meeting the diversity requirement in the sciences.

One of the few faculty members who spoke out to criticize this was Robert Paquette, Professor of History and Executive Director of the Alexander Hamilton Institute. He has repeatedly complained about the decline in academic standards. Only recently, for example, did the history department, after years of internal debate, require of its history majors one course in American or European history.

Regarding the diversity drive, he notes that not only is there no academic basis for the requirement, there isn’t even a clear definition of “diversity” as it is being required!

In a May 16 email, Dean of the Faculty Patrick Reynolds nevertheless praised the requirement and said he looked forward to seeing “the development of curriculum where issues of diversity resonate and are integrated across all our disciplines.” He further claimed that the initiative is “a response to student interest that was strongly expressed two or three years ago.”

But is that true? Was there really any strong expression of student interest?

Reynolds’ assertion is thrown into doubt by his and faculty members’ encouragement of the Black Lives Matter protests beginning on campus in 2014. That fall, student activists commandeered the Burke Library and one of the group’s leaders ranted from the stairs about  standard leftist hobgoblins such as white privilege, plutocratic trustees, and capitalism.

These students received encouragement from literature professor Nancy Rabinowitz whose work with Planned Parenthood and “performance artist” Rhodessa Jones I described in a seriesof articles.

Rabinowitz, who has access to tens of thousands of dollars through the college’s Days-MassoloCenter, allied organizations, and the dean of the faculty’s office, is fond of bringing in “pricey rent-a-radicals,” as Professor Paquette calls them. This past academic year, she brought back Dr. Margo Okazawa-Rey, a faculty member of the School of Leadership Studies at Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, California, to serve as the chair of Women’s Studies at Hamilton.

Okazawa-Rey’s academic bio boasts that her “primary areas of research and activism are gender, militarism, and feminist activist research.” In a 2003 talk at Hamilton, she pilloried President Bush, claiming that “The biggest terrorists are the ones who are calling for a war on terrorism.” (Titles of 2016 women’s studies senior theses she supervised include “Re-Examining the Battlefield: Gendered Intersections of Militarization and Genocide” and “Trans*formation: A Study of Partners of Transmasculine Individuals.”)

The timing of Okazawa-Rey’s appointment fit in with the efforts to impose the diversity requirement. A May 5, 2015, email from the Committee on Academic Policy (including Rabinowitz) and the Faculty Working Group announced that Okazawa-Rey would “facilitate” the effort.

The email repeated the claim that the project “grew out of our students’ heartfelt request to implement a diversity-intensive requirement,” and listed four demands meant to solve problems that some activist students had identified at a meeting in April:

  1. End overt acts of racism and other forms of hate speech and acts, e.g. [a fraternity-sponsored] “Mexican Night.”
  2. Provide continuity in change efforts to offset discontinuity and disruption of students coming and going and to interrupt the cycle of very overt incidents that seem to happen every four years.
  3. Create longer-term institutional change to make the College a truly diverse institution.
  4. Improve the campus climate so students, especially marginalized ones, will feel much more comfortable and will thrive not just survive.

Supposedly, this “intellectual project” involving “faculty across the disciplines” would provide solutions by encouraging “students to study and understand the exclusion, stratification, inequalities, and violence in its many manifestations on our campus and in the wider world.”

That language is standard leftist rhetoric used by faculty activists to indict American colleges and other institutions for falling short of the progressive utopia. Did it actually come from the students, though?

Other emails suggest that faculty members—specifically Okazawa-Rey—were instrumental in training and radicalizing the students to whom they pointed as justification for the diversity requirement through workshops, courses, and other activities.

In particular, Okazawa-Rey’s email to the “Hamilton community” in April informed them that eight Hamilton students, enrolled in a year-long study project, had attended a training session at the Highlander Center in Tennessee, a social justice leadership training school, on whose http://www.popecenter.org/2016/07/ugly-truth-behind-colleges-diversity-requirement/board of directors Okazawa-Rey sits. (It is not known how much Hamilton College paid for the training sessions.)

Guidestar lists Highlander’s tax-exempt classification as “Environmental Education and Outdoor Survival Program,” but quotes the mission statement: “Highlander serves as a catalyst for grassroots organizing and movement building in Appalachia and the South. We work with people fighting for justice, equality and sustainability, supporting their efforts to take collective action. . . .”  Their programs and Justice Fund Fellows focus on racial, economic, and environmental “justice,” such as Black Lives Matter, reproductive rights, and “immigrant rights.”

Okazawa-Rey said that the students called the experience “transformative.”

Perhaps the experience was transformative. Or perhaps the eight students were already imbued with leftist “social justice” notions. Either way, their opinions are a feeble reason for a sweeping change in the curriculum.

In the email, Okazawa-Rey announced that these students would conduct a “teach-in” to share Highlander “methodologies” and “the contribution they hope to make to the lives of incoming first-year students.” They had already done a “Participatory Action Research Project” about challenges new students supposedly face.

It’s apparent that such professors, armed with boundless funds, go to incredible lengths to radicalize students. Then they capitalize on their “heartfelt” emotions to create demands for still more emphasis on their favorite project—“diversity.”

The vast majority of Hamilton College students are indifferent to such efforts, but they are never consulted.

Florida: Top 10 Reasons to Vote ‘No’ on Amendment 2

Vote No on Amendment 2 released the top reasons to vote against making marijuana legal in the Sunshine State.

1. It’s Permanent -Amendment 2 is a proposed Constitutional Amendment, that means it could never be changed, limited or altered by law enforcement, local governments or the state legislature. And while some Constitutional Amendments allow for a local option, Amendment 2 specifically does not.

2. Caregivers – So-called “caregivers” are empowered to dispense pot with no medical training required. This provision is just like California’s law, which one of its authors later called “dope dealers with storefronts.” And, once again, there’s NO LIMIT to the number of “patients” a caregiver can have.

3. Budtenders Not Pharmacists – “Medical Marijuana Treatment Centers” are not legitimate pharmacies, in fact, you won’t find a single licensed pharmacist behind the counter of any Amendment 2 style Pot Shop. Instead, you’ll find a so-called Budtender with no medical training, but lots of first-hand experience smoking pot.

4. It’s De Facto Legalization – The authors of Amendment 2 tried to hide their gaping Pot Legalization Loophole behind a long list of conditions, but if you read the fine print you’ll find this clause: “… or any other debilitating medical conditions of the same kind or class as or comparable to those enumerated …” Just like in California, anyone with anxiety, migraines, trouble sleeping or a sore throat will be able to legally purchase pot.

5. Kid Friendly Pot Candy-Amendment 2 specifically authorizes edibles and the pot industry manufactures them to look just like the junk foods your children know and love. In states like California, where medical marijuana is legally sold, children as young as 21 months are being rushed to the emergency room as a result.

6. It’s Not Your Father’s Mary Jane -Today’s pot is 10X more potent; which means this is not the marijuana of Woodstock. The average THC content has soared from less than 1% in 1972 to nearly 13% and higher today.

7. No Local Option – Because there’s no local option to allow communities to ban, limit or restrict the location of pot shops. If Amendment 2 passes you can expect the seedy elements of the pot industry to move in right next door to your neighborhood, your church, your business and even your child’s school.

8. 2,000 Pot Shops – The Florida Department of Health estimates that under Amendment 2 Florida will have 1,993 pot shops. That means Florida will be home to more pot shops than McDonalds, Starbucks and 7-Elevens combined.

9. No Prescription – Amendment 2 does NOT require a doctor’s prescription in order to obtain pot because a prescription would violate federal law. Instead “patients” are given a flimsy certification which has no medical standing and is not recognized by the medical community as legitimate.

10. They Didn’t Fix It -While the original amendment limited caregivers to just 5 “patients,” the supposedly “new and improved” amendment gives caregivers license to acquire, possess, administer, transfer and deliver pot to AN UNLIMITED NUMBER OF USERS. So basically caregivers are no more than legitimized drug dealers. This isn’t the plan that someone would write if they were only concerned about providing medicine to the sick.

During his acceptance speech Donald Trump draws 61 lines in the sand

Donald Trump “humbly and gratefully” accepted the Republican Party nomination for the presidency of the United States on July 21st, 2016.

The theme of Mr. Trump’s acceptance speech was to show the differences between him, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and the Democratic Party’s platform. Trump summed it up by saying:

My opponent asks her supporters to recite a three-word loyalty pledge. It reads: “I’m with her.” I choose to recite a different pledge. My pledge reads: “I’m with you the American people.”

During his acceptance speech Mr. Trump drew clear domestic and national security policy lines in the sand. Here are the lines in the sand from Mr. Trump’s acceptance speech:

  1. [W]e will lead our country back to safety, prosperity, and peace.
  2. We will be a country of generosity and warmth.
  3. [W]e will also be a country of law and order.
  4. The crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon — and I mean very soon come to an end.
  5. We cannot afford to be so politically correct anymore.
  6. The problems we face now — poverty and violence at home, war and destruction abroad — will last only as long as we continue relying on the same politicians who created them. A change in leadership is required to produce a change in outcomes.
  7. [O]ur plan will put America first.Americanism, not globalism, will be our credo.
  8. The American people will come first once again.
  9. My message is that things have to change and they have to change right now.
  10. I have no patience for injustice. No tolerance for government incompetence.
  11. I know that corruption has reached a level like never ever before in our country.
  12. I have joined the political arena so that the powerful can no longer beat up on people that cannot defend themselves.
  13. Nobody knows the system better than me, which is why I alone can fix it. I have seen firsthand how the system is rigged against our citizens, just like it was rigged against Bernie Sanders.
  14. [W]e are going to fix the system so it works fairly and justly for each and every American.
  15. We will bring the same economic success to America that [Governor and Vice President nominee] Mike brought Indiana.Hi
  16. The first task for our new administration will be to liberate our citizens from the crime and terrorism and lawlessness that threatens their — our communities.
  17. When I take the oath of office next year, I will restore law and order to our country.
  18. I am the law and order candidate.
  19. I will work to ensure that all of our kids are treated equally, and protected equally.
  20. We are going to defeat the barbarians of ISIS. And we are going to defeat them bad.
  21. I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign [Islamic] ideology.
  22. We must have the best, absolutely the best, gathering of intelligence anywhere in the world.
  23. We must abandon the failed policy of nation- building and regime change that Hillary Clinton pushed in Iraq, Libya, in Egypt, and Syria.
  24. we must work with all of our allies who share our goal of destroying ISIS and stamping out Islamic terrorism and doing it now, doing it quickly.
  25. We’re going to win. We’re going to win fast. This includes working with our greatest ally in the region, the state of Israel.
  26. [W]e must immediately suspend immigration from any nation that has been compromised by terrorism until such time as proven vetting mechanisms have been put in place. We don’t want them in our country.
  27. I only want to admit individuals into our country who will support our values and love our people. Anyone who endorses violence, hatred or oppression is not welcome in our country and never ever will be.
  28. We are going to have an immigration system that works, but one that works for the American people.
  29. We are going to build a great border wall to stop illegal immigration, to stop the gangs and the violence, and to stop the drugs from pouring into our communities.
  30. By ending catch-and-release on the border, we will stop the cycle of human smuggling and violence.
  31. Peace will be restored by enforcing the rules for the millions who overstay their visas, our laws will finally receive the respect they deserve.
  32. We are going to be considerate and compassionate to everyone. But my greatest compassion will be for our own struggling citizens.
  33. I have a different vision for our workers. It begins with a new, fair trade policy that protects our jobs and stands up to countries that cheat — of which there are many.
  34. I’m going to make our country rich again. Using the greatest business people of the world, I’m going to turn our bad trade agreements into great trade agreements.
  35. I am going to bring our jobs back our jobs to Ohio and Pennsylvania and New York and Michigan and all of America and I am not going to let companies move to other countries, firing their employees along the way, without consequences.
  36. I pledge to never sign any trade agreement that hurts our workers, or that diminishes our freedom and Independence. We will never ever sign bad trade deals. America first again. American first.
  37. I will make individual deals with individual countries. No longer will we enter into these massive transactions with many countries that are thousands of pages long and which no one from our country even reads or understands.
  38. We are going to enforce all trade violations against any country that cheats. This includes stopping China’s outrageous theft of intellectual property, along with their illegal product dumping, and their devastating currency manipulation.
  39. I have proposed the largest tax reduction of any candidate who has run for president this year, Democrat or Republican. Middle-income Americans will experience profound relief, and taxes will be greatly simplified for everyone. I mean everyone.
  40. Excessive regulation is costing our country as much as $2 trillion a year, and we will end and it very quickly.
  41. We are going to lift the restrictions on the production of American energy.
  42. We will build the roads, highways, bridges, tunnels, airports, and the railways of our tomorrow.
  43. We will rescue kids from failing schools by helping their parents send them to a safe school of their choice.
  44. We will repeal and replace disastrous Obamacare. You will be able to choose your own doctor again.
  45. [W]e will fix TSA at the airports, which is a total disaster.
  46. We are going to work with all of our students who are drowning in debt to take the pressure off these young people just starting out in their adult lives.
  47. We will completely rebuild our depleted military.
  48. [T]he countries that we protecting at a massive cost to us will be asked to pay their fair share.
  49. We will take care of our great veterans like they have never been taken care of before.
  50. We will guarantee those who serve this country will be able to visit the doctor or hospital of their choice without waiting five days in a line and dying.
  51. We are going to ask every department head and government to provide a list of wasteful spending projects that we can eliminate in my first 100 days.
  52. We are also going to appoint justices to the United States Supreme Court who will uphold our laws and our constitution.
  53. My opponent wants to essentially abolish the 2nd Amendment. I, on the other hand, received the early and strong endorsement of the National Rifle Association. And will protect the right of all Americans to keep their families safe.
  54. An amendment, pushed by Lyndon Johnson, many years ago, threatens religious institutions with a loss of their tax-exempt status if they openly advocate their political views. Their voice has been taken away. I will work hard to repeal that language and to protect free speech for all Americans.
  55. [M]y sole and exclusive mission is to go to work for our country, to go to work for you. It is time to deliver a victory for the American people. We don’t win anymore, but we are going to start winning again. But to do that, we must break free from the petty politics of the past.
  56. I will be a champion.Your champion.
  57. I am your voice. So to every parent who dreams for their child, and every child who dreams for their future, I say these words to you tonight: I’m with you, and I will fight for you, and I will win for you
  58. We will make America strong again.
  59. We will make America proud again.
  60. We will make America safe again.
  61. And we will make America great again!

Here is the video of Donald Trump’s acceptance speech:

It Comes Down to A Clear Choice

As “We The People” witness the ongoing presidential political race, it is very easy to see a clear and present difference between the two camps.  However, it comes down to what voters genially desire.  Not since the Gipper, Ronald Reagan took on and first defeated Jimmy Carter and for his second term Overwhelmed Walter Mondale has there been such an opportunity to choose between such distinct paths for America.  On the left the direction simply continues on at the record speed of destruction that has been the hallmark of the Obama administration.

It is bad enough that Our economy is wheezing under the pressure of record debt and deficits.  President Obama has pandered to the lowest dregs of society, some of which are diseased refugees who are hell bent on spreading their sick Islamic-sharia law philosophy.  Through the dwindling power of the office he holds, the president has literally done nothing to strengthen America or shore up our national interests.  He has only led from behind walking backwards.

Not only here in America, but throughout the majority of planet earth, nation after nation is suffering from the influence of Obama’s mission of appeasement toward millions of Muslims who are acting on their declaration of war against civilization.  Our military is both smaller and weaker than it was before World War Two.  Both race relations and economic opportunities have been dramatically deteriorated due to the progressive policies that aided both bad behavior and economic duldrums.

That is why at the outset of this column I mentioned the clear and present differences between the two presidential contender camps.  Mrs. Clinton represents the continuation of the harmful and  tyrannical regulations, the economic stifling and unalienable rights inhibiting policies and open border dogma of President Barack H. Obama.  While Donald Trump continues to advocate the lowering of taxes, the lessening of regulations, the rebuilding of our military and the securing of our border.  If unabated, the policies of Obama then Mrs. Clinton will deteriorate America beyond recognition.  On the other hand, if the stated policy ideals of the Trump campaign are realized, then America will be number one again.

Unfortunately, because of years of dummying down of many generations of Americans, at least 40 percent of the American population along with illegal immigrants and refugees who are allowed to vote, it could be a tough battle to rebuild the United States to greatness.

When in Cleveland for the Republican National Convention, it was both comical and sad to witness Americans viciously attacking Trump and Trump supporters for simply wanting our national sovereignty and borders protected.  I was haunted by a silly thought of a home owner allowing any and everybody to come in and take food, urinate everywhere, rape his wife and then attacking others who would dare to suggest he should protect the sovereignty of his own home.  The progressive liberal movement reflects a destructive mental disorder that if left unchecked or stopped, could cause the utter elimination of the United States permanently from amongst the ranks of great nations.  Which, by the way is and has been the goal of the democrats/progressives/liberals for decades.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the underlying struggle between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton as well as some establishment republicans concerning the push for globalism.   Most, if not all of the international trade agreements between the United States and our competitor nations have benefited everyone other than the United States.  They weaken our manufacturing ability, while at the same time place America at an economic and trade disadvantage.  Every one of our so-called trading partners have major multi billion trade advantages over the United states because of the foolish terms agreed upon by previous administrations and the current regime.

Because of the thinking and lack of concern for our national security and that of the rest of the civilized world, including Israel, the Obama administration has totally given in to the demands of Iran.  As a result, the Iranians may very soon have the capability to wipe Israel off the map with nuclear weapons.  Hillary Clinton agrees with that utter madness and will expand on that destructive mission by continuing to give in to Muslim dictatorships whose number one mission is oppression of all who are not Muslim.  Presidential candidate Donald Trump has repeatedly spoken against the John Kerry method of appeasement at the expense of American security, prestige and stature.

The differences between the two camps are as extreme as night and day and the choice is ultimately up to us voters, barring any voter fraud of course.  It is my belief that Donald Trump and Governor Pence represent a solid ticket that if elected will prove good for our republic on so many levels.  It comes down to if Americans desire more destruction of America and the rest of the civilized world, or the rebuilding of this land of opportunity.

This final note. I must congratulate Cleveland for providing a most appealing backdrop for the republican national convention.  That city’s downtown is both beautiful and lively with numerous great restaurants and attractions for every age group and taste.  I also got to explore beyond Cleveland’s downtown core and was impressed with areas like Little Italy, Tremont, Ohio City, University Circle and beyond.  All of those great travel articles I read about Cleveland before going there did not stretch the truth about that fun and appealing city by the lake one bit.  Well done C-town.

Erdogan’s Faux Coup — The rise of a Sunni Islamist Caliphate?

When first televised pictures burst out on July 15, 2015 on international media about an alleged coup by the Turkish Army they were peculiar. The soldiers stationed at airports, in tanks on the Bosporus Bridges looked timid and frankly lost. The flyovers and explosions by low flying Turkish Air Force jets and attack helicopters may have been threatening, but in reality they were for show. August 1st was the date for appointments to Turkey’s Supreme Military Command. What better time to unleash a long planned staged coup that unfolded on flickering TV screens across the globe. Normally, in the four prior coups by Turkish military, the President and cabinet were immediately sequestered, official media communications were seized and the reigning government toppled before Turkish citizens knew what had occurred. Not this time. Erdogan was ensconced on vacation in his resort palace in Mamaris, while military units were seizing news offices, rolling out tanks on Bosporus bridges and soldiers were blocking entrances to Istanbul International Airport. Then, as if on cue, hordes of men jammed the streets in Istanbul and Ankara. This was triggered by an Facetime video message from Erdogan that he was returning to Istanbul in his Gulfstream 5 executive aircraft. He declared that he was seizing back control and summarily ordered the arrest of members of the country’s judiciary, officers in the country’s military and then Erdogan supporters began conducting summary executions. It is alleged that the country’s military intelligence, the MIT, had fomented the “coup,” which may have a partial ring of truth, as they had executed previous false flag operations at the behest of Erdogan.

Erdogan wants to clean out all remaining opposition so that he assumes dictatorial Presidential powers equivalent to a Sunni Islamist Caliph. The paranoia has swelled so badly that a senior Turkish official accused the US of being involved in the coup. That allegedly brought a rebuke from Secretary Kerry. Erdogan’s bullying is nothing but persistent. This time even the waning Obama Administration that had previously considered him the “good Islamist” is sitting up and taking notice of how volatile and dangerous he is. Erdogan is using the playbook of the late Saddam Hussein in Iraq; reminiscent of Stalin’s purge of the 1930’s mired in paranoia. Moreover, there were precursors that this staged coup might be Erodgan’s Sunni extremist equivalent of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran. Way past time that this country and others in the Atlantic alliance seriously consider requesting that Turkey be removed as a NATO member, but then he might even opt to join a mutual defense pact with Putin.

Chaos arising from this alleged failed coup in Turkey makes it an unreliable dangerous member of NATO and an even less than cooperative member of the US led coalition fighting ISIS in Syria. The Kurds end up as the only reliable and effective boots on the ground in both Syria and Iraq fighting the Islamic State. At the same time the coup was occurring and being crushed  there was an air drop of the long awaited weaponry from the US led coalition resupplying the Kurdish led Syrian Democratic Forces. Now, they are free to finally close the Manbij gap along the Turkish frontier that provided unhindered access by the Islamic State.

The Toll of the Failed Turkish Coup

When initial news came of the coup, this writer was attending a candidate forum in Pensacola, Florida, sponsored by the Tiger Bay Club for the Congressional seat vacated by retiring incumbent, US Rep. Jeff Miller (R-Ist CD). A question was posed on the effect of this possible coup by the Turkish military: Would our government support our ally Israel against Islamic terrorism in the Middle East region? With the exception of the lone Democratic contender, who was virulently anti-Israel, the majority of the six Republican contenders expressed the view that we would. Five of the six were veterans, one was an Explosives Ordnance technician and naval officer, James Zumwalt grandson of former Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Elmo Zumwalt. Another candidate, Cris Dosev, a former Marine aviator veteran explained to the audience that the Turkish Constitution provides the authority for the country’s military to defend its secular democratic institutions. During the 93 years of the Turkish Republic founded by Mustapha Kemal Ataturk there were four virtually bloodless military coups in 1960, 1971, 1980 and the last occurring in 1997. The current one, which failed to unseat President Erdogan would mark the fifth. It is turning out to be bloody.

The toll in the purge in Turkey after the alleged failed coup reported by the BBC included 290 killed, 100 coup plotters among them, nearly 1,500 injured and 16,000 detained, including a military aide to Erdogan, and senior Army and Air Force commanders. The regime arrested 11 Turkish Air Force officers and the commander of the important Incirlik air base from which US coalition air strikes have been launched against ISIS. Chillingly, Incirlik has stored nuclear bombs in its revetments.

Michael Rubin, American Enterprise Institute, Resident Scholar

Michael Rubin’s Prescient Prediction

Michael Rubin, Resident Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute made this prescient prediction about a possible Turkish coup in March 2016. It was  republished as a “Notable and Quotable” in the Weekend Edition of the July 16-17, 2016 Wall Street Journal:

From policy analyst Michael Rubin’s “Could there be a coup in Turkey?” for the American Enterprise Institute’s AEIdeas, March 21, 2016:

The situation in Turkey is bad and getting worse. It’s not just the deterioration in security amidst a wave of terrorism. Public debt might be stable, but private debt is out-of-control, the tourism sector is in free-fall, and the decline in the currency has impacted every citizen’s buying power. There is a broad sense, election results notwithstanding, that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is out-of-control. He is imprisoning opponents, seizing newspapers left and right, and building palaces at the rate of a mad sultan or aspiring caliph. In recent weeks, he has once again threatened to dissolve the constitutional court. Corruption is rife. . . .

Erdogan long ago sought to kneecap the Turkish military. For the first decade of his rule, both the US government and European Union cheered him on. But that was before even Erdogan’s most ardent foreign apologists recognized the depth of his descent into madness and autocracy. So if the Turkish military moves to oust Erdogan and place his inner circle behind bars, could they get away with it?”

Any secularists inside the military lost out in what may turn out to be, Erdogan’s faux coup.

Erdogan’s Dangerous Striving for a Neo-Islamic Turkish Caliphate

Erdogan, backed by his AKP cohorts in the Ankara Parliament were shocked in June 2015, when they didn’t obtain a super majority enabling him to pass a referendum converting the ceremonial post of President into an executive one, modeled, as he frequently has said, on that of Hitler as elected Chancellor of Nazi Germany. He was prevented by a surge in votes of secular minority parties and the Kurdish – led Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP). He declared an internal war against the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK), designated terrorists, to create a tumult to return to a working majority in a September 2015 Presidential race.

He initially appointed his former Foreign Minister, Ahmet Davatoglu. But Erdogan nudged his former ally aside in May 2016, in an apparent power struggle for control of the AKP and the Ankara parliament. That power play was set against the backdrop of a series of suspicious bombings in Ankara and Istanbul, allegedly credited to the PKK and the Islamic State. Turkey has been a NATO member since 1952, but has played a quixotic and questionable role in the turmoil next door in Syria wracked by six years of civil war and the emergence of the Islamic State, the self declared Caliphate. He alternatively made threatening noises about dislodging his former regional ally across the border, Bashir Assad while also threatening to fight the Syrian Kurdish PYD/YPG affiliate of the PKK. The Syrian Kurds are the only fighting force partnered with the US and abetted by Russia trying to dislodge the Islamic State. An Islamic State to which he facilitated the transit of foreign fighters, weapons, contraband oil, and purloined antiquities the sale of which line the family’s pockets.

He shot down a Russian jet last fall across the border in Syria; a provocation unacceptable to Russian President Putin, who replied by cutting off agricultural trade and employment of Turkish construction workers for projects in Russia. He fostered the influx of more than 1.5 million Syrian refugees and migrants from across the Muslim Ummah in what can only be considered a Dar al Hijrah immigration strategy threatening Europe with Islamization. Among those throngs were Islamic State operatives headed to strike terror in the fall of 2015 with a spectacular massacre in Paris and in dual suicide bombings at Brussels airport and subway in March 2016.  Some of these young male migrants spawned a host of instances of sexual rapine in welcoming countries like Germany and Sweden. Erdogan drove a hard bargain with the cowering EU receiving promises of  billions in Euros to fund the misery of Syrian refugee camps in Turkey.  He also had the chutzpah to up the ante demanding Visa free transit for 79 million Turkish citizens.

In late June 2016 an ISIS suicide team hit the Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul with dozens killed and well over a hundred injured. About the same time, Erdogan feeling isolation pinching his economy apologized to Russian President Putin for the shoot down of the Russian jet in Syria. He finalized a deal to renew relations with Israel after suspending it for five years over the Mavi Marmara Gaza blockade incident in May 2010. Then, on the eve of the July 15, 2016 staged coup, he turned turtle and now backed Assad endeavoring to punish rebel opposition, especially the Al Nusrah Front he had previously backed. To top that off, it was reported that he had reached a deal with the US-led coalition to enable the Kurdish –led Syrian Democratic Force to close the Manbij gap cutting off ISIS access to the Turkish Frontier.

Is Turkey poised for an Islamist Revolution?

Soner Cagaptay of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy wrote a Wall Street Journal opinion article, “Turkey Faces its 1979 Moment,” a reference to the Islamic Revolution in Iran.  Cagaptay zeroed in on what may be the real objective of Erdogan’s staged coup: conversion of Turkey to a Sunni Islamist state akin to the 1979 Iranian Revolution. As baseball great Yogi Berra might say: “looks like deja vu all over again.” Cagaptay noted the intensity of Islamist fervor triggered by the July 15th staged coup as Erdogan’s message calling for Sharia supplanting the secularist traditions of Turkish Constitution emblematic of founder of the Republic Mustapha Kemal Ataturk.

As the coup plot was unfolding on Friday night, Mr. Erdogan appealed to religious sentiments in the country, rallying his supporters to launch a counter-coup. On his orders, calls for prayer were issued from Turkey’s over 80,000 mosques at 1:15 a.m.—not a time when people are supposed to be praying. The strategy worked, the call to prayer acted as a call to political action, and religious Turks took to the streets in defiance of the secularist military. Together with pro-government police forces, they overpowered the military’s botched effort.

[…]

Erdogan [promoted] efforts to impose religion: In December 2014, Turkey’s Higher Education Council, a government-regulated body, issued a policy recommendation that mandatory courses on Sunni Islam be taught in publicly funded schools to all students, even ones as young as age 6.

Enter a second, quicker path to power: Islamist revolution. Erdogan supporters—who took to the streets to defy the coup, and who have continued to rally throughout the country since then—are not the garden-variety conservative AKP supporters, but rather Islamists, and even jihadists. Over the weekend, pro-Erdogan mobs captured and beat soldiers who had supported the coup. Images were reportedly posted online, in the Islamic State style, of a soldier who had been beheaded.

Jihadist sentiments in Turkey have become increasingly noticeable lately, in no small part due to Mr. Erdogan’s education policy, as well as his Syria policy, which has allowed Islamist radicals to use Turkey as a staging ground. According to a recent poll by the Pew Research Center, 27% of Turks don’t view Islamic State unfavorably. Mr. Erdogan can now harness these forces to usher in an Islamist revolution.

Cagaptay concludes: “most Turks of other political outlooks are scared to leave their homes.”

Erdogan versus Gulen

Erdogan Seeks Extradition of Former Ally Fethullah Gulen

The objective of Erdogan was to pin the blame of the coup on a reclusive Sufi Sheikh multi-millionaire living in a fortified compound in the Pocono Mountains of Eastern Pennsylvania, Fethullah Gulen.

Gulen is the founder of the Hizmat or service movement with global followers and a network of more than 1000 schools in 100 countries. These so-called academies of math and science are in reality centers for promoting Islamic and Turkish culture. US Charter Schools, founded by Gulen Movement adherents and funded by US tax dollars, are staffed by Turkish administrators and teachers admitted under the H1B Visa program. There are more than 135 Gulen sponsored Charter schools across the US. Perhaps the most significant are the 46 Harmony Schools in Texas funded at over $135 million annually.

Gulen and Erdogan were once allies. The Sheikh supported the election of Erdogan in the beginning only to fall away as he began to close Gulen Movement news media, root out prosecutors and ultimately close down the Gulen private school network in Turkey. We considered Gulen the long term radical Islamist, while Erdogan with his Muslim Brotherhood affinities had aspirations to bring back a conservative Islam. In the process he hoped to become the neo-Sultan of a family run corrupt empire. We have written about the falling out of the two former allies and the collapse of Turkish democracy under Erdogan for the past nearly four years.

Erdogan and protesters outside the Saylorville, Pennsylvania compound of 75 year old Sheik Fethullah Gulen of the global Hizmat movement want him extradited. He successfully survived a 2008 hearing over an earlier 1998 coup indictment by a previous secular government. Outside of his Saylorville Compound in the Poconos in Eastern Pennsylvania were supporters of Turkish President Erdogan protesting Sheik Fethullah Gulen as the instigator of the failed coup. Inside his small prayer room, Gulen was expressing to a gathering of reporters the view this was a coup staged by Erdogan. In this case there are indications that this may be so. The two former Islamist allies have been bitter enemies since 2013.

Watch this Guardian video interview with Sheik Fethullah Gulen at his compound in Saylorvile, Pennsylvania.

In the midst of the failed coup Erdogan sent off a demand for the extradition of his former ally Gulen to President Obama and Secretary of State Kerry. The Administration was caught unawares by these developments and simply said in return; show us the evidence, so that we might deliberate on what to do. Gulen may have protection under US law. In May 2016, we wrote in a NatSecDailyBrief article about Erdogan’s filing a complaint in Texas against the Gulen Movement sponsored Harmony Charter School network.

The Wall Street Journal reported on May 25, 2016 that the Turkish government under President Erdogan retained the Washington, DC law firm of Amsterdam and Partners to file a complaint before the Texas Education Agency. The complaint was against a network of 46 Harmony Charter Schools founded by adherents of his one-time Islamist ally, Sheik Fethullah Gulen. The complaint alleges discrimination in hiring practices; a reference to hiring Turkish staff and instructors under H1B visas with little to no experience, rather than qualified US instructors.

Gulen had important US friends vouching for him, including the Clintons, who provided testimony in a 2008 extradition hearing that went in his favor. The Erdogan government had also been endeavoring to seek Sheik Gulen’s extradition for prosecution of suspected involvement in a coup against the AKP government. This fracas arose over alleged Gulenist prosecutors and affiliated news media in Turkey accusing the autocratic President of corruption and muzzling a free press. The AKP government purged prosecutors and made major Gulen affiliated news media subject to government editorial control.

The Ergenekon Trial Verdicts Overturned

In 2007, Turkish prosecutors launched a series of trials against senior military alleged to be part of a secret terrorist organization, Ergenekon, that purportedly had planned a 2003 coup. The trials ended with 275 convictions reached in 2013, many top generals among them. In April, 2016, those convictions were overturned because of procedural rules and evidence there was no such group. The Wall Street Journal noted who sought the original convictions:

Judges in Ankara said the trial of retired Gen. Ilker Basbug—the former chief of Turkey’s armed forces—and others convicted in August 2013 was flawed by procedural errors that prevented a fair hearing, according to Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency. The verdict paves the way for a retrial that could lead to acquittals.

Prosecutors had described a mass conspiracy by an ultranationalist terrorist organization called Ergenekon, named for a Turkish legend, but the court ruled there were no grounds to prove its existence.

The Court’s decision effectively marks the unraveling of a case that divided the country, pitting backers of the secular-leaning military against Islamist conservatives who backed then-Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The trial helped bolster Mr. Erdogan’s power and blunted the influence of the once almighty military—the second largest force after the U.S. in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

The case was sparked by a 2007 investigation that found more than two dozen grenades in an Istanbul shantytown and eventually led to the prosecution of military officers, journalists, academics and politicians.

Defendants in the case have denied the allegations. They argue that false evidence was planted by supporters in the judiciary and the police of Fethullah Gulen, a U.S.-based Turkish imam who was at one time one of Mr. Erdogan’s strongest backers.

They say the prominent cleric sought to push secularists from the military and bureaucracy in an effort to transfer power to Islamists.

Conclusion

My how the worm has turned. Now Erdogan is seeking to extradite the very man who helped him crush the secularists in Turkey’s military, Fethullah Gulen.

This would make great copy for a contemporary Turkish Game of Thrones series. The tragedy is that once secular Turkey has been destroyed by the two radical Islamists, former allies, now at each other’s throats. One of them, President Erdogan is challenging the US once more to extradite Sheik Gulen, accusing him of staging a faux coup that Erdogan executed without his former ally’s knowledge. It all appears as the devolution into a Sunni Sharia Caliphate with autocrat Erdogan as the neo-Sultan overthrowing the secular Constitution of the Turkish Republic, founded by Mustapha Kemal Ataturk.

The Rise and Fall of the ‘Neo-Supremacist’ in America

A supremacist is an “advocate of the supremacy of a particular group.” The United States has seen the rise of the “neo-Supremacist”, one who does not seek equality under the law as envisioned by Dr. Martin Luther King. Rather the neo-Supremacist seeks supremacy over all others, particularly those who resist the supremacist’s ideology.

The most violent neo-supremacists are, in most cases, not Caucasian. The neo-Supremacist does not wear the white robes of the Ku Klux Klan. Rather he wears a keffiyeh or kufiya also known as a ghutrah (غُترَة), shemagh (شماغ šmāġ), ḥaṭṭah (حَطّة), mashadah (مَشَدة), chafiye (Persian: چَفیِه ), or cemedanî (Kurdish: جه مه داني ) and the woman a burka.

America has seen the rise of a number of supremacist movements including, but not limited to, the following:

  1. Black supremacists
  2. Islamic supremacists
  3. Homosexual supremacists
  4. Collectivist supremacists

These supremacists have found succor and support in the neo-Democrat Party. Their champions include President Obama and former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Supremacists have fundamentally transformed American public and U.S. foreign policy. Ideology now trumps national and homeland security issues. The weapon of choice for the supremacist is to denigrate any and all who oppose them and their ideology. When those who are being oppressed speak out the supremacist uses political correctness to silence opposition.

Saul Alinsky had 12 Rules for Radicals.  Rule number 5 states:

Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions. (Pretty crude, rude and mean, huh? They want to create anger and fear.)

Rule number 12 states:

Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. (This is cruel, but very effective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.)

The black supremacist targets their enemy using the word “racist”, the Islamic supremacist uses “Islamophobe”, the homosexual supremacist uses “homophobe” and the collectivist uses “political correctness.”

Pretty crude, rude and mean, right?

It appears, however, that the neo-Supremacists are losing their way.

Alinsky’s Rule number 10 states:

If you push a negative hard enough, it will push through and become a positive. Violence from the other side can win the public to your side because the public sympathizes with the underdog. (Unions used this tactic. Peaceful [albeit loud] demonstrations during the heyday of unions in the early to mid-20th Century incurred management’s wrath, often in the form of violence that eventually brought public sympathy to their side.)

What we are now seeing is a violation of this rule. Cops are being killed by Black Lives Matter and Nation of Islam members, the soldiers of Islam are slaughtering homosexuals in Orlando, and fellow workers at a Christmas party in San Bernardino.

As these neo-Supremacists use ever more violence they risk losing their underdog status and become the aggressor rather than the victim.

Alinsky’s rule number 11 states:

The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative. Never let the enemy score points because you’re caught without a solution to the problem. (Old saw: If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem. Activist organizations have an agenda, and their strategy is to hold a place at the table, to be given a forum to wield their power. So, they have to have a compromise solution.)

Democrats have increasingly becoming part of the problem. Their solution are “old saw.” A dull saw at that.

The Donald Trump campaign has recognized this yearning for a solution epitomized in the slogan “Make America Great Again.”

What America is waking up to is headlines that frighten them, and rightly so. The killing of innocents, slaughter of non-Muslims, rape of underage children and spread of immoral behavior is hard to hide and harder to explain. Soon the words like “Islam is the religion of peace” fall upon deaf ears.
