‘Ultimate Betrayal’: White House Issues Stark Warning For GOP Holdouts On Trump Bill

President Donald Trump is intensifying his public pressure campaign for Senate GOP holdouts to back the upper chamber’s version of the “big, beautiful” bill, arguing that failure to pass his sweeping tax and immigration bill “would be the ultimate betrayal.”

The White House issued an endorsement of the Senate bill Saturday morning touting the numerous benefits of the legislation, including its massive investments in border security and defense spending as well as enacting the largest cut to mandatory spending in history. Senate Majority Leader John Thune is eyeing a procedural vote as early as Saturday afternoon to commence a marathon session of voting to pass the Senate plan — but key GOP holdouts are threatening to delay its passage.

“[T]he Congress should immediately pass this bill and send it to the President’s desk by July 4, 2025, to show the American people that they are serious about ‘promises made, promises kept,’” the White House said in a statement of administrative policy, highlighting the president’s self-imposed deadline. “President Trump is committed to keeping his promises, and failure to pass this bill would be the ultimate betrayal.”

Several GOP senators have said they would oppose a procedural vote to advance the upper chamber’s budget bill if Thune moved to put a bill on the floor Saturday. The majority leader can afford to spare just three Republican votes assuming all Senate Democrats are present and vote “no” on the motion to proceed.

Republican Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson, a leading fiscal hawk in the upper chamber, announced Saturday that he would not vote to advance the Senate proposal until he receives scoring detailing the fiscal impacts of the bill’s various provisions. The Wisconsin Republican is advocating for a return to pre-pandemic spending levels and has frequently voiced concern that the Senate’s bill would increase budget deficits and add to the national debt.

“I’m not going to vote for a motion to proceed today,” Republican Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson said on “Fox & Friends” Saturday morning. “We just got the bill, and I got my first copy about 1:23 [a.m.] in the morning.”

“You shouldn’t take the [former Speaker] Nancy Pelosi approach and pass this bill to find out what’s in. We need to know exactly what’s in it,” Johnson added. “We need to be thoughtful. This is a big bill. This is an important bill. There’s no need to rush it.”

The Wisconsin Republican has previously signaled that he would not bend to political pressure to support the bill if it increases deficit spending.

Johnson’s colleagues, Republican Sens. Mike Lee of Utah and Rick Scott of Florida are also advocating for deeper spending cuts within the Senate proposal. The three have suggested they could vote as a bloc, which would allow them to delay passage of the legislation if their needs are not met.

Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, who frequently breaks with his party on fiscal matters, has warned that he will vote “no” on the president’s bill if the package includes a $5 trillion increase in the debt limit. The text unveiled shortly before midnight on Friday kept the debt ceiling hike in the Senate bill.

Republican North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis, a moderate GOP senator up for reelection in 2026 — where he could face a competitive Democratic challenger — has also pledged to oppose advancing the legislation if his concerns about the bill’s reforms to Medicaid are not addressed.

The North Carolina Republican has suggested that the Senate’s proposal to reduce the cap on Medicaid provider taxes would cost his state tens of millions of dollars in federal Medicaid funding. The Senate plan notably delayed implementation of the provider tax crackdown in the most recent version of the bill, but it is unclear if that will be enough to win Tillis’ vote.

“I’m voting ‘no’ on the motion — period,” Tillis told reporters Friday evening. “It’s the fundamentals of the bill.”

“I’m assuming, unless the baseline transforms radically overnight, which I doubt it will … I’m just a ‘no’ and we’ll see where the negotiations go from there,” Tillis added.

Senate GOP leadership can breathe a sigh of relief that another potential holdout, Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, will vote “yes” on the motion to proceed. However, Collins said that she is “leaning against” supporting the bill during a vote on final passage if additional changes to the legislation are not incorporated.

Collins told reporters she will be “filing a number of amendments” to address various concerns with the bill.

Republican Oklahoma Sen. Markwayne Mullin dismissed concerns that holdouts would derail passage of the Senate bill this weekend.

“Everybody’s got concerns, but saying you’re voting ‘no’ and when you get to the floor and voting ‘no’ are two totally different things,” Mullin told reporters Saturday.

Despite various concerns about the fiscal impact of the president’s landmark bill and slashing entitlement program spending, the White House is reminding senators about the economic benefits Americans stand to gain with passage of the budget package.

“With its passage, Americans will keep more of their hard-earned money while taking home much bigger paychecks that will unleash economic growth nationwide,” the White House said. “Additionally, the bill will lower costs by unleashing American energy through incentivizing expedited permitting, opening up federal lands for production, and eliminating spending on wasteful environmental policies.”

‘People Will Be Outraged’: MAHA Advocates Tell Senators To Think Twice Before Opposing RFK Jr.’s Nomination

Supporters of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) agenda have a message for senators who may be entertaining the idea of tanking Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s nomination: opposition won’t go unnoticed among the American public.

Though Kennedy’s nomination to serve as President-elect Donald Trump’s Health and Human Services secretary is drawing fierce resistance from the medical establishment and corporate media, the former independent presidential candidate has a legion of supporters willing to go to the mat to secure his confirmation. MAHA advocates believe that Kennedy is uniquely positioned to help the president-elect usher in a “golden age in health” during the next four years.

MAHA advocates are also prepared to scrutinize senators who oppose Kennedy for any ties to Big Pharma and other corporate interests, according to interviews conducted by the Daily Caller News Foundation with several prominent Kennedy supporters.

“It would be outrageous for Republican or Democratic senators to vote no against RFK Jr.,” Zen Honeycutt, founding executive director of the medical freedom and health advocacy nonprofit, Moms Across America, told the DCNF in an interview. “It would be a huge step back in the wrong direction and people will be outraged.”

“It will be a clear sign that those senators [who vote no] are putting the special interests of Big Pharma before the health of the American people,” Honeycutt added. “What Kennedy is asking for is to have safer food and vaccines. How can you be against that?”

Heading Into January With Notable GOP Allies

Kennedy met with more than a dozen GOP senators on Capitol Hill in December during which the life-long Democrat appeared to win the support of several social conservatives, including Republican Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley, by committing to uphold pro-life Health and Human Services (HHS) policies that Trump pushed during his first term.

Senate Republicans also appear to be embracing many of the food and health policy issues raised by MAHA advocates as a considerable number of the GOP conference rallies behind Kennedy’s nomination.

On Dec. 19, Republican Kansas Sen. Roger Marshall announced the creation of the Senate MAHA Caucus, which promises to “work with RFK Jr. to be the legislative force that ensures the key pillars of MAHA are executed.”

Republican Sens. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama, Rick Scott of Florida, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming are founding members of the Senate MAHA caucus.

No GOP senator has yet to oppose Kennedy’s nomination, but Republicans seen as more willing to cross Trump, including Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and former Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky are noncommittal.

‘Trying Desperately To Derail’ Kennedy

Long experiencing contempt from corporate media over their advocacy, MAHA advocates are tuning out outlets’ coverage of Kennedy’s nomination and hoping that senators are as well.

“They have not been reporting accurately on vaccine safety or on the pesticides in our food. They’ve been putting their ad dollars — from Big Pharma to Big Ag — before the health and safety of Americans,” Honeycutt told the DCNF. “We see through that. Mainstream media does not tell us hardly anything that is truthful.”

McConnell issued a veiled threat to Kennedy to distance himself from efforts to probe the safety of vaccines following the release of a misleading New York Times exposé on Dec. 13 alleging that Aaron Siri, one of Kennedy’s lawyers, asked the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), an independent agency under the HHS, to “revoke its approval of the polio vaccine.”

“Efforts to undermine public confidence in proven cures are not just uninformed — they’re dangerous. Anyone seeking the Senate’s consent to serve in the incoming administration would do well to steer clear of even the appearance of association with such efforts,” McConnell, a polio survivor, said in a statement on Dec. 14.

But the New York Times’ story was “categorically false,” according to Siri, because his petition only sought to have the FDA conduct another clinical trial of one of the six polio vaccines licensed in the United States to ensure its safety when administered to children, Siri told Daily Caller co-founder Tucker Carlson during an interview in December.

“Even if this petition was granted, there is not a single child or adult in America that would not have had access to a polio vaccine,” Siri told Carlson. “That is what makes the New York Times headlines absolutely false. They knew it was false. They intended for the country to be deceived because they’re trying desperately to derail Mr. Kennedy’s nomination.”

MAHA advocates believe that Kennedy’s prior statements advocating for subjecting vaccines to further scientific study is a position most Americans would support.

“Bobby Kennedy has said one thing consistently, which is pharmaceutical products should be subjected to science,” Calley Means, a prominent MAHA advocate and co-author of the best-selling book, Good Energy, told the DCNF. “The president’s directive is to figure out why kids are getting sick, why kids are getting autism. And that includes resetting research to answering that question.”

“I don’t think any American disagrees with the idea that pharmaceutical products should be continually studied,” Means added.

‘There Will Be A Huge Backlash’

Refusing to confirm Kennedy could be seen as senators turning their backs on the millions of Americans who support the MAHA agenda and helped send Trump back to the White House to enact the food and health policies that Kennedy’s campaign helped push into the limelight, according to several Kennedy supporters.

“If RFK Jr. does not get Senate approval, I think there will be a huge backlash,” Valerie Smith, a metabolic health coach and Kennedy supporter, told the DCNF in an interview. “The millions of votes that went to Trump getting re-elected are the same people that are going to be very vocal if RFK Jr. doesn’t get in there [HHS].”

GOP senators voting no on Kennedy’s confirmation could also be viewed as alienating the nontraditional Republican constituencies, such as MAHA advocates, that Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign was able to successfully court and bring into the party’s fold.

“I believe moms are a major part of why Trump won and a major reason for that is because he had the wisdom to bring on Kennedy,” Honeycutt told the DCNF. “The fact that Trump used the words pesticides, autism, chronic illness and cancer on a presidential platform — that moment was historic.”

“Finally, somebody has heard us, and we don’t care which party they come from,” Honeycutt added. “Our kids with autism, with autoimmune issues, with asthma, with allergies — finally, they have a champion and somebody that’s standing up and speaking up for us.”

But MAHA advocates are aware that the reason Kennedy may appeal to so many Americans — his independence from and history of taking corporate interests — is exactly why he may face hurdles along the way to his Senate confirmation, several Kennedy supporters told the DCNF.

“He’s a threat to this massive amount of profit that’s gone unregulated up until now,” Smith told the DCNF. “He’s coming up against some very powerful lobbyists and massive amounts of money. I just hope and pray he can overcome them.”

“He isn’t captured by any industry or corporation, so he’s free to do what’s right by the American people, not what’s in the best interest of corporations,” Courtney Swan, an integrative nutritionist and host of the health and wellness podcast, Realfoodology, told the DCNF.

‘Bipartisan Issue Of Our Time’

MAHA advocates are holding out hope that Democratic lawmakers, already embracing parts of Kennedy’s agenda, will also support the prospective HHS secretary’s confirmation.

“Making America Healthy [Again] is the bipartisan issue of our time, Means told the DCNF. “If you closed your eyes at a Trump-RFK rally, you wouldn’t know which party you were listening to.”

“Transparency, medical freedom, getting conflicts out of science — these are bipartisan issues that President Trump has led on, and it’s encouraging that leading Democrats have expressed support for the MAHA agenda,” Means added. “I’m optimistic they’ll support the unimpeachable bipartisan agenda that Bobby has espoused.”

Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Democratic Sens. Cory Booker of New Jersey and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, who have all complimented parts of Kennedy’s policy agenda, have left open the possibility they could vote in favor of Kennedy’s confirmation to lead HHS.

“I think what he is saying about the food industry is exactly correct,” Sanders said told CBS News during an interview on Dec. 5 during which he also expressed concern about Kennedy’s positions on water fluoridation and vaccines. “You have a food industry concerned about their profits, couldn’t care less about the health of the American people. I think they have to be taken on.”

A mutual understanding that the nation’s food supply is contributing to making Americans sicker could bring Republicans and Democrats together, according to several MAHA advocates.

“Americans have never been sicker, and they are sick and tired of being lied to and gaslit by the food industry and medical system,” Swan, who applauded Sanders’ commentary on the food industry, told the DCNF in a statement. “We are in this mess because we have allowed industry to take control of the narrative.”

“This needs to end and RFK Jr. is the only politician openly talking about wanting to change it,” Swan added. “We have a once in a lifetime opportunity for real change and for people to do the right thing.”

Senators across the political spectrum should take note of MAHA’s and Kennedy’s political ascendancy, Honeycutt told the DCNF.

“The most important issue before us today is health,” Honeycutt said. “Moms have been driving that issue for a very long time and we’re overjoyed that this new administration has heard us and is making health a primary issue.”

“We don’t care what party someone is from,” Honeycutt added. “If they are putting health first, they will have our support. And we want senators to remember that come election time.”

The intrepid blue puppet received a solid scolding from Republican Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson after Edgar inquired whether Republican Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell’s impending retirement would finally allow him to take his rightful place as “King of the Turtles.”

Republicans Sound Alarm On Efforts To Shield Ukraine Funding From American Voters

As President Joe Biden signed legislation Wednesday to send billions of dollars more in aid to Ukraine, officials from Brussels to Washington are working to hamstring former President Donald Trump from taking a different route should he win back the White House.

With Congress granting Biden additional “drawdown” authority to send weapons to Kyiv, and NATO allies in Europe seeking to take the power to send aid away from the White House, multiple Senate Republicans, strategists and former Trump officials told the Daily Caller efforts to “Trump-proof” foreign aid are misguided and futile.

“There are things that they’re setting in motion here that are going to make it very difficult for Trump to, if he’s elected president, to undo this, to extricate us, from these arrangements,” Utah Sen. Mike Lee said. “I mean, look there are a thousand things you can do with government contracting that can make it either easier or harder for a subsequent administration to take a different approach.”

Lee is among the lawmakers and officials who opposed the aid package that will send $26.4 billion of funding to Israel, $8.1 billion of funding to Taiwan and $61 billion of more aid to Ukraine. Several of the opponents noted that, in their view, Ukraine is unlikely to prevail in the long-term against Russia and a settlement must be negotiated sooner rather than later.

“The fact is that the strategy isn’t working. There is no strategy,” Fred Fleitz, the vice chair of America First Policy Institute’s Center for American Security said. “And Trump understands that. And it’s just not fair for these Democrats to say, well, we’re going to Trump-proof NATO. We’re going to Trump proof aid for Ukraine.”

Polling also shows that sending additional aid to Ukraine is not particularly popular with battleground state voters, who are more focused on border security in the U.S. as border crossings and illegal immigrant apprehensions have hit record highs under the Biden administration.

A growing constituency in the Republican Party has endorsed halting further aid to Ukraine until progress is made on stemming the tide of illegal immigration in the U.S. While Trump has not expressed blanket opposition to more aid for Ukraine, some of his strongest allies at the Capitol are the biggest proponents of putting America’s border first.

In early April, Politico reported that the “U.S. and other Western countries are considering transferring to NATO a U.S.-led multinational group that coordinates the shipment of weapons to Ukraine, one of several new proposals that could help maintain the flow of arms to Kyiv under a second Donald Trump presidency.”

The group was created at the beginning of the war by Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley with a goal “to coordinate Western support for Kyiv’s defenses.”

Several Democrats in the Senate told Politico in February that they need to take new steps to protect NATO from a potential second Trump term.

Conservatives pushed back on these efforts, and characterizations of Trump as anti-NATO, in conversations with the Caller.

“We’re seeing fear mongering by President Trump’s political opponents. And I think a lot of it has to go to the fact that they are absolutely standing with President Biden’s policy on Ukraine. That has no strategy. Trump has said, I want to stop the killing. He hasn’t said he wants to cut off Ukraine,” Fleitz said.

“Now, I read in the article that there’s some members of Congress who want to prevent Trump from pulling out of NATO. Trump doesn’t plan to pull out of NATO. As far as I know. He hasn’t said that,” Fleitz continued. “But what he has said is that he wants to hold NATO members accountable for their treaty obligations, to spend 2% of the GDP on defense. And Trump is not the only president to call for that. He’s just the only president who’s been serious about it.”

Richard Grenell, the former Acting Director of National Intelligence under Trump, told the Caller that the idea of Trump-proofing weapons for Ukraine is “silly politics during an election year.”

“What I would say is nothing undermines NATO more than being a member of a military alliance and yet not being able to contribute to that military alliance in any meaningful way,” Grenell said. “I don’t even want to speculate because Donald Trump made NATO stronger. You know, hundreds of billions of dollars more came into NATO than ever before.”

“Everyone knows exactly what Donald Trump is going to do for NATO, because they saw it for four years. There are no surprises. He’s going to absolutely demand that countries pay their 2014 commitment and their obligations. We don’t see that from the Biden team. They don’t demand it. They don’t bring it up,” Grenell added.

Republican Wisconsin Sen. Ron Johnson said after reading the Politico report, “the first thought through my mind was, in terms of danger to world peace, President Biden has posed a far greater danger than anything Trump could pose.”

“I’m getting a little sick of Europe relying on U.S. debt to provide a defensive shield for Europe. Their combined economies are as big as the U.S.. They do this themselves,” Johnson added.

Fleitz echoed that sentiment: “If there’s an effort by Democratic politicians and members of, and European leaders to somehow Trump proof Ukraine by having Europe provide more military aid. I’m all for that. Because the big problem here is that countries like Germany and France are giving a pittance when it comes to aid to Ukraine. We’re bearing the majority of the burden, and they really shouldn’t be criticizing us when they are not doing nearly enough to help Ukraine.”

John Ullyot, a National Security Council spokesman under Trump, told the Caller that “Democrats who say otherwise and take steps to jam up Trump on NATO are putting Europe First, not America First. That simply doesn’t fly with U.S. taxpayers and voters as a matter of common sense.”

Trump had expressed support for giving some additional aid to Ukraine in the form of a loan, and Congressional Republicans sold him on that as part of the latest aid package. About $10 billion of the $60 billion was enacted as a loan, but it is forgivable if the White House opts not to make Kyiv pay it back.

“I believe $10 billion of the $60 billion aid package it has designated as a loan. And that’s for humanitarian aid. And we expect Ukraine to pay it back. Realistically, given how their economy has been devastated, even when the war is over, it doesn’t seem likely we’ll be able to pay that in the immediate future,” Fleitz said.

Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott told the Caller that a loan makes more sense than grants for foreign aid, but that it should not be forgivable.

“I mean, I think having a loan makes a lot more sense than just grants. I think that’s what we ought to be doing with our foreign aid. If you want to give your money away, that’s one thing, for your federal government to give your money away, that’s something totally different,” Scott said. “So I think that this ought to be in the form of a loan and it shouldn’t be forgivable.”

Johnson referred to the loan as “mere window dressing” and “political cover” saying: “We are going to be discussing when this war finally ends, how do you rebuild Ukraine to the tune of what, something around a $1 trillion price. Do you think a $10 billion loan is going to even enter that equation? So no, it’s window dressing. It’s nothing but mere political cover for those members whose constituents, by and large, would prefer they not vote for sending $60 billion down the drain.”

“It’s not really a loan. It’s a loan that has a thousand different ways that the loan can be waived built into the bill. And it’s pretty plain to me on the text of the statute that what they’ve got in mind is, getting this set up and then making sure the Biden administration forgives the loan. They’ve made it very, very easy to do that. And so to call something a loan when you’ve built into the law mechanisms to make it sort of optional. It’s very deceptive,” Lee said.

Despite the anger over the aid package from the Republican base, Trump, for his part, did not try to stop it. He even provided encouragement to the increasingly-maligned Speaker Mike Johnson, saying he’s “trying very hard.”

Republican Louisiana Rep. Mike Johnson will introduce legislation Tuesday that would defund the Department of Homeland Security’s new “Disinformation Governance Board,” which is set to be led by Nina Jankowicz.

The Daily Caller first obtained the legislation spearheaded by Johnson, which has 50 cosponsors. The bill would completely bar federal funding for the DHS’ “Disinformation Governance Board,” something Johnson said the Republicans will do if President Joe Biden does not get rid of the board.

“The Biden Administration’s decision to stand up a ‘Ministry of Truth,’ is dystopian in design, almost certainly unconstitutional, and clearly doomed from the start,” Johnson told the Daily Caller before introducing the legislation. “The government has no role whatsoever in determining what constitutes truth or acceptable speech. President Biden should dissolve this board immediately and entirely. If he won’t then Republicans will.”

Jankowicz attempted to discredit the Hunter Biden laptop story in the past and is now in charge of the DHS disinformation board. Republican Sen. Ron Johnson sent a letter April 27 to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, saying Jankowicz is a “beacon of misinformation online” and mentioned that she has published multiple tweets “furthering the false media narrative” about the Hunter Biden laptop.

Both The Washington Post and The New York Times noted the authenticity of Hunter Biden’s laptop in March 2022, more than a year after the Daily Caller News Foundation (DCNF) first verified it on Oct. 29, 2020. The DCNF obtained a full copy of Hunter Biden’s alleged laptop from former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani in 2020 and had the emails forensically verified as real.

Just days before the DCNF verified the authenticity of the laptop, Jankowicz tweeted about the laptop, saying it “is a Russian influence op.”

During the second presidential debate, Jankowicz sent out a tweet which said that Biden cited “50 former natsec officials and 5 former CIA heads that believe the laptop is a Russian influence op.”

In a tweet from December 2017, Jankowicz also claimed the Steele dossier, which has been totally discredited, was funded by Republicans. Christopher Steele, the dossier’s author, was never funded by Republicans. The Washington Post reported in October 2017 that Marc E. Elias, a lawyer for the Clinton campaign and DNC, and his law firm, Perkins Coie, hired Fusion GPS last April to investigate Donald Trump — something Jankowicz failed to mention.

Jankowicz is currently a fellow at the Wilson Center. On her website, she calls herself an “internationally-recognized expert on disinformation and democratization.”

Bill reintroduced to designate Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization

This is timely, as Biden’s handlers appear to be once again aiding the Brotherhood, as Obama did during his first two terms as well.

Republican Senators Reintroduce Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act

Asharq Al-Awsat, November 6, 2021:

A draft bill presented by several US Republican Senators to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization sparked controversy, as many officials warn of its repercussions on Washington’s relations with several friendly and allied countries.

US Senators Ted Cruz, Jim Inhofe, and Ron Johnson led a move that reintroduced the Muslim Brotherhood Terrorist Designation Act.

The bill urges the Department of State to use its statutory authority to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).

Cruz said that it’s time that “we join our allies in the Arab world in formally recognizing the Muslim Brotherhood for what they truly are—a terrorist organization.”

“I’m proud to reintroduce this bill to urge the Biden administration to designate them as such and advance our nation’s fight against terrorism.”

The Senator stressed that “we have a duty to hold the Muslim Brotherhood accountable for their role in financing and promoting terrorism across the Middle East.”

Earlier, Cruz criticized the Biden administration and Democratic senators from the House Committee on Appropriations for withholding $130 million worth of military aid to Egypt until Cairo released some Muslim Brotherhood political prisoners.

He also “blasted” President Biden’s nominee for Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs, Barbara Leaf, slamming the Senate Democrats for trying to release “Muslim Brotherhood propagandist” who is “anti-semite and hate preacher.”

US and Egypt will launch the strategic dialogue on Monday with the two delegations led by Foreign Ministers Anthony Blinken and Sameh Shoukry in Washington.

However, Republican and Democratic lawmakers objected to such bills, saying that classifying the group as terrorists may not be helpful because it is no longer a unified organization.

They warn that such classification might harm the US relations with many friendly and allied countries, led by Turkey. They also note that some Muslim Brotherhood affiliates who are not classified as extremists are members of Arab governments and parliaments….
