U.S. AID Gave $135 Million to Zimbabwe: A Country where Whites Can No Longer Own Land

Dear President Obama, Senator Harry Reid and Speaker John Boehner:

According to the U.S. AID website:

U.S. assistance in Zimbabwe is focused on promoting the country’s transformation from a repressed and deeply impoverished nation to one in which the government respects democratic freedoms and seeks to meet the needs of its people. USAID will continue to promote change and provide for those adversely affected by government mismanagement by working with civil societyhelping Zimbabwe’s democratic forces advance reforms and providing humanitarian assistance where required. [Emphasis added]

President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe two days ago declared white people can no longer own land in the country. We supplied Zimbabwe with food aid in the amount of $165 million in 2009, $79.5 million in 2010, $50.8 million in 2011, $42 million in 2012, $48.1 million in 2013. In 2014 we gave Zimbabwe a total of$135.2 million in aid.

The majority of that aid money came from white U.S. taxpayers. If Mugabe doesn’t want white people to own land in the country it is only fitting we cease aid in any way shape or form to an obviously racist regime.

Failure to cease all aid immediately will mean the U.S. Government condones racism. I have no doubt there are some in Congress who are cheering Mugabe’s declaration that may reach into the White House but you control the expenditures so STOP SUPPORTING ZIMBABWE’S RACIST REGIME IMMEDIATELY!

“The Forces at Play” in the Palestinian Authority

‘Avenge’, ‘cycle’, ‘retaliation’, ‘disproportionate’.  Most media scripts of recent days could have been written by machines.  Three Israeli teenagers have been murdered, callously and ruthlessly.  Their abductions were barely covered by most of the non-Israeli press during the weeks in which they were missing.  But now that they have been confirmed dead the Western press really knows what to do and how to cover it.

As with the United Nations, and other international bodies, the story appears to start not when an outrage is perpetrated against Israelis but rather when Israel is thought to be considering a ‘response’.  So ‘calm’ was urged upon Israel by the UN while options were being ‘weighed up’.

And then we enter the period of ‘backlash’.

Unconnected to events in the West Bank, in recent days Israel has struck sites in the Gaza responsible for the ongoing barrage of rockets being fired into Southern Israel.  Does anyone other than Israel get accused of ‘pounding’ an enemy even when the action is targeted precision strikes?  Everything to do with Israel’s wars for security and survival is portrayed in this way.  And those in the West who are sanguine about this treatment when it is meted out to Israel need to reflect that this is the same situation in which they will find themselves when the time comes.

In the meantime, as we go through the latest replay of an endless media story it is all too easy to ignore the bigger movements which are going on behind this.  As we have often said here at HJS, the erasure of borders, the clarification of old alliances and revived fundamentalist hatreds are the real movements going on underneath the Middle East and North Africa region during this period.  And the events of recent days give a deep reminder of Israel’s long-term territorial questions.  ISIS – or the ‘Islamic State’ as it is now more simply known – is not only causing the Saudi Arabian army to mass on its own Iraqi border, but is attempting next to erase the borders of Jordan.  This should be a moment for specific clarity in a regional mess.

If the Palestinian Authority wants to achieve a state then it must show that its state would be law-abiding and peaceful.  In doing a unity deal with Hamas earlier this year, Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah showed that they were more interested in terror and annihilation than they were in peace. Fatah has tried to draw comparisons with the tragic murder of a Palestinian youth this week in Jerusalem to paint the Israeli government into a race to the bottom about which community should be more outraged. But this is nonsensical. Even if the worst fears are realised and extremist Israelis are found to have committed this act, the Israeli state cannot be held responsible for the acts of vigilantes. But the Palestinian Authority certainly can be for the behaviour of a constituent part of its leadership. And since Hamas is to blame for the killings of the Israeli teenagers, what does Fatah’s refusal to uncouple from it tell us?

Would a Hamas-Fatah state in the West Bank be a barrier to ISIS and ISIS-like organisations?  Or would it be a sponge for it?  Would it withstand the forces of the region or would it fall in step with them?  Given the responses of the Palestinian leadership in recent days, we have had an opportunity to stare into the future.  People often say that the window is closing on the two-state solution.  Unless something changes, this will become an inevitable conclusion.

Open letter to CEO of Nextera Energy on Smart Meters

Mr. James L. Robo
Chairman and Ceo
Nextera Energy, Inc.

Re:   Are Smart Meters Really the Intelligent Choice

Dear Mr. Robo,

Did you read where FPL spent $800,000,000.00 to buy smart meters for 4.5 million customers and is installing them at no charge along with 10,000 intelligent devices to move the information around because they say it will be a huge benefit to their customers? Now I have read over the huge customer benefits touted by FPL as being able to monitor your electric power usage even by the hour but see nothing else! Wow, that is exactly what I’m sure all people have been waiting for the ability to do. There will probably be block parties formed to watch the results and experiment with turning appliances on and off to monitor usage. I wonder how society ever survived without it and perhaps could become as big a fad as the hula hoop.

If that is true I am sure you would agree Mr. Robo that this would be the first time a company acted so benevolently towards its millions of customers and a utility no less. As I mentioned in my previous letter they are so hell bent on being benevolent to the customers they are penalizing the people staring the gift horse in the mouth though the people declining didn’t consume $1.00 of the $800 Million FPL spent.

Did you read the utility is portraying itself as a real environmentally conscious company even using Agenda 21 words like sustainability and renewable?

Did you read where they tout they have the largest wind and solar portfolio in the Country? Now that might rate a pat on the head from President Obama for battling the evil climate change hoax he is bound and determined to push as an agenda so he can soak consumers even more through eliminating evil carbon that we exhale as we breathe. It is the consumer who pays though.

Did you read where smart people are wondering how much more expensive their electricity is since the cost to produce a KW of electricity is several times higher through solar or wind than through fossil fuels? In the brochure lauding the environmental tilt of the company and patting themselves on the back about how environmentally pure they are they fail to mention an important thing; the hundreds of thousands of birds chopped up by the rotor blades and the birds killed by wings singed from the solar heat causing them to crash and die every year. I suppose they don’t want to ruin the message they are putting out and want to portray to the public since some might get upset that even bald eagles are victims of the blades yet the federal government is silent in spite of the fact there are severe penalties for killing bald eagles.

Did you read where having all of these additional portals from wind and solar farms opens up the windows available for hackers to penetrate to shut down our grid (blackout)? Even worse, the information is all of the millions of smart meters the utility installed also are a path for penetrating the system to shut it down!

So Mr, Robo, it appears the utility that is so proud of its environmental approach to providing “sustainable and renewable” energy that decimates hundreds of thousands of birds every year also is making it dramatically easier for hackers to shut down the grid because of the millions and millions of portals they can now use to penetrate the system. Do you think the utility thought of that before they acquired the largest wind and solar portfolio in the country and installed millions of electronic meters that makes us ever more vulnerable to be attacked by hackers? If that happens, what will the utility say I wonder?

Perhaps the people who refused the meters should be thanked by not increasing the number of portals any further instead of being penalized for not making the grid ever more susceptible for hackers. Would you agree those who declined the meters were really the smart people and those who chose the meter made a dumb choice?

Obama Using Radical ‘Cloward-Piven’ Maneuver to Create Chaos at the U.S. Border

Please read the below article on President Obama’s radical Cloward-Piven maneuver to create massive confusion, overwhelm the system and bring chaos to the Southern U.S. border.  The United States no longer has a Southern border with Mexico, it is a wide open lawless area becoming more and more dangerous for those living and working there.  The United States is the only country in the world that doesn’t enforce its border to protect its citizens.

Obama has instigated the arrival of thousands of Illegal Immigrants to enter the Republic, and has no intention of securing the border with a fence that would work.  The massive invasion of Illegal Immigrants could be halted in the matter of days if Obama did what President Truman did after WWII, and President Eisenhower did at the end of the Korean War—they closed the southern border with Mexico, and deported 13 million Illegal Immigrants to help veterans returning from combat duty to obtain employment following their Honorable Discharges.  The President can easily federalize and deploy the US National Guard and/or the US Army Reserve to close the southern border immediately.  The only reason a comprehensive Immigration policy has not gained support in Congress is because the President refuses to seal the southern border.

Obama has changed the US Border Patrol from a Law Enforcement Agency into a babysitting agency.  Border Patrol Agents have been telling the American people that the Obama administration’s policy of open borders is allowing thousands of Illegal Immigrants to enter at will, and that Obama has every intention to unilaterally grant amnesty to ever Illegal Immigrant entering in violation of Federal Law.  For the last 5 years, we have observed the current occupant of the Oval Office violating his oath of office and Federal Laws with regard to Illegal immigration at will.

The Obama administration is now taking the place of coyotes smugglers, by collecting thousands of Illegal Immigrants at the open border, putting them on buses and airplanes, shipping them to various cities throughout the nation, and releasing them to wander at will in the middle of the country knowing full well that they will never appear in court.  Obama previously sent a strong signal in his speeches to the countries and people of South America, that if they sent their Illegal Immigrant children to arrive in the US, they would “never” be deported.  The US Border Patrol is telling the administration and the American people that terrorists, drug smugglers, criminals, human smugglers, Middle East citizens, and Chinese citizens are walking across the open order along with many of those Illegals Immigrants children, posing as their guardians.

Thousands of Illegal Immigrants with contagious disease are not being properly quarantined, they are being allowed to enter the country at will to spread their contagious diseases.  The US had previously controlled and virtually eradicated: tuberculosis (TB), Chagas disease, dengue fever, malaria, hepatitis, plus other contagious diseases, but the Illegal Immigrants carrying these invisible “contagious infective travelers” in the tsunami of 90,000 Illegal Immigrants, entering the United States, are being allowed to enter the country at will to spread their contagious diseases. A government-contracted security force threatened to arrest doctors and nurses if they divulged any information about the contagion threat at a refugee camp housing illegal alien children at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.  You can read much more by clicking on the link:

Members of the Obama administration, led by Obama’s appointed Czars, are presiding over one lawless act after another; they perpetrated the illegal Fast & Furious gun running operation to Mexican drug cartels, the illegal gun running operation to Al Q’ieda terrorists in Libya & Syria, the criminal program to have the IRS prevent American Citizens from exercising their basic Constitutional right to campaign in elections, the program to restrict the religious liberty and freedom of speech in the pulpit of members of the US Armed Forces, the criminal intention to prevent the US Armed Forces from protecting the lives of Americans under attack by Al Q’ieda terrorists during The Battle of Benghazi, the senior managers of the VA appointed by the Obama administration destroying 600,000 veterans applications for medical care, and now Obama is asking Congress for $2 billion to provide weapons to anti-American Islamist terrorist fighting in Syria.

CONGRESSMEN: OBAMA USING ‘CLOWARD-PIVEN MANEUVER’: ‘Attempt to flood the border with illegals’ part of infamous socialist strategy

jerome corsiby  JEROME R. CORSI

Jerome R. Corsi, a Harvard Ph.D., is a WND senior staff reporter. He has authored many books, including No. 1 N.Y. Times best-sellers “The Obama Nation”

NEW YORK – Two U.S. congressmen tell WND they believe the flooding of America’s Southwest border with thousands of illegal-alien children seeking government handouts and citizenship is the intended outcome of policies by the Obama administration derived from a strategy by radical sociologists to transform America into a socialist state.

In the 1960s, professors Andrew Cloward and Francis Fox Piven of Columbia University, Obama’s alma mater, devised a plan to provoke chaos by deliberately overwhelming governmental systems and the U.S. economy to the point of collapse, paving the way for state intervention that would ultimately replace America’s free-enterprise republic with a collectivist system.

“I do feel this attempt to flood the border with illegals is a playing out of the Cloward-Piven theory,” said Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa.

“If you don’t see them bring reinforcements down there to seal the border, that means that, yes, it’s a Cloward-Piven maneuver to flood the country until we get to the point where we are an open-borders country that welcomes everybody, legal and illegal,” he told WND.

Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Texas, agreed that Obama – who studied the chaos strategy at Columbia, according to a classmate – “is trying to do a Cloward-Piven thing with the border.”

“Obama follows all the far-left, Leninist, socialist-type stuff,” Stockman told WND.

He said it’s “an open secret Obama is trying to flood Texas with illegals to make it into a blue state,” with a Democrat majority.

“If we lose Texas, and it becomes like California, then the Republicans lose the chance of ever getting a Republican elected president,” the Texas lawmaker warned.

King agreed that one of the aims of the illegal-alien flood is to turn Texas into a Democrat state.

“You or I could shut that thing down in less than a week,” he said. “Instead of busing and flying illegals out of Texas, you fly enforcement people in.”

King said that while the U.S. is spending $7 a mile to defend the border, “we need to take people to plug the leak.”

“It’s the Battle of the Bulge down there, and you send in George Patton and the Third Army to relieve the surrounded 101st Airborne,” King said.

Hurricane-force

A flood of illegal-aliens children enticed by Obama policies favorable to minors has escalated to a “crisis of the federal government’s creation,” Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has charged.

The nearly 1,000 illegal aliens from Mexico and Central America crossing into Texas each day is being compared to Hurricane Katrina by overwhelmed officials.

“How do you prepare for that?” said Don Ray, the executive director of the Texas Border Sheriffs Coalition. “You can’t have an influx of people like that without having an impact.”

Ray told KRLD-TV in Dallas-Ft. Worth that similar to the aftermath of Katrina, relocation services are in operation.

“In the case of Katrina, most of them were United States citizens or people that were here lawfully, and now you have people that aren’t here lawfully.”

Among the policies allegedly attracting illegal aliens is Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, which allows some illegals who came to the U.S. as children to defer deportation.

History lesson

Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Texas

Rep. Steve Stockman, R-Texas.

Stockman told WND his office conducted a study showing that California’s transformation into a Democrat-majority state was directly related to the 1986 amnesty bill passed by Democrats in Congress under Republican President Ronald Reagan.

“After Reagan did this, the illegal immigrants voted Democrat,” he noted. “Still our party thinks, ‘They’re going to love us after we do this,’ but it hasn’t been borne out by the history.”

Stockman criticized former George W. Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer, now a GOP consultant, for advising Republican candidates to back “immigration reform,” which, as currently conceived in Congress, includes some form of amnesty for illegal aliens living in the U.S.

Fleischer “never ever ran a campaign,” said Stockman, “and yet he’s an expert in campaigns.”

“It’s absurd. We’re the crew taking orders from a guy who’s never been on a boat, yet he’s the captain of the boat – and yet he’s giving directions,” he said.

Stockman sees the Cloward-Piven chaos theory at work in Obama’s foreign policy as well.

“All that blood and treasury – and Iraq is going to al-Qaida,” he said, referring to news Wednesday that a second city has fallen to al-Qaida-inspired Islamic militants.

“And don’t forget Libya. We have the black flag of al-Qaida flying over Libya now, and if Obama had his way, we’d also have the Muslim Brotherhood in charge of Egypt,” he said.

Stockman also criticized Obama’s diplomacy in Egypt, saying he “was rude to the Egyptian leader,” President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who is working with Israel to remove terrorists from the Sinai.

“The whole Middle East is going to become a radical Islamic state,” he said.

Cantor defeat about immigration

Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa

Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa.

King said the shocking primary defeat Tuesday of House Majority Leader Rep. Eric Cantor in Virginia was about immigration.

“The voters stepped up and supported a candidate who has done an excellent job of articulating how important it is to restore the rule of law as a component of American exceptionalism,” he said, referring to tea-party candidate David Brat.

Cantor has expressed support for the principles of Obama’s proposed DREAM Act, which would grant amnesty to illegal aliens who came to the U.S. as children.

“The establishment will try to spin this, but Cantor’s loss reflects a voter rejection of amnesty, and it should put the brakes on any effort to move amnesty legislation in the House,” King said.

Stockman said the “key to Cantor losing was that the conservatives – including talk radio – united behind one candidate instead of what happened in my race where you had different people on our side supporting different GOP candidates.”

He noted the Senate Republican primary in South Carolina in which incumbent Sen. Lindsay Graham won the nomination against six opponents was similar.

“As long as we fight among ourselves, we lose,” Stockman said.

He emphasized that Cantor’s loss “killed immigration (legislation), and we need to keep getting that message out.”

Stockman said that in an interview with the Associated Press, the reporter insisted it was Democrat voters crossing over that defeated Cantor.

But Stockman said a study by his office found that Brat actually received fewer votes in Democrat areas than Mitt Romney did in the 2012 election.

“So, it’s a spin they’re trying to put out here to keep the thing alive,” the Texas congressman said.

King said regarding immigration that House Republicans may “put up a fight” for a time, “but we have telegraphed that we will cave in rather than hold our ground.”

He said it remains to be seen whether or not Republicans will coalesce around a new House majority leader willing to take a strong stand against amnesty.

“I will not support anyone for leadership who supports amnesty,” he declared.

Before Boston Marathon bombing, bomber posed with black flag of jihad at local mosque

Remember: former “FBI Director Robert Mueller has also said that although the FBI visited the [Tsarnaev’s] mosque in the past — as part of its ‘outreach’ to the Muslim community — he was unaware of the Islamist leanings of the Islamic Society of Boston (ISB), which runs the Boston bombers’ house of worship. But the FBI was warned nearly four years prior to the bombings that the ISB was a nest of Islamic radicalism.” And it looks as if they missed more signals as well.

“Before Boston Attack, Alleged Bomber Posed With Black Flag of Jihad at Local Mosque,” by Michelle McPhee, ABC News, July 3, 2014 (thanks to A.M.H.):

Months before the 2013 terror attack on the Boston Marathon, accused bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev posed in front of a black flag often associated with jihad with a fellow worshiper at a Boston-area mosque, according to an FBI report obtained by ABC News.

The FBI report, which did not include the photo, describes Tsarnaev and his friend Khairullozhon Matanov as “seated in front of a black flag with a sword and a shadada phrase,” referring to the Muslim statement of faith, and adds that the photo was taken “at the mosque.” Similar flags have become symbols of jihad, used by al Qaeda and al Qaeda-linked extremist groups.

The FBI had been warned by Russian intelligence in 2011 that Tsarnaev may have become radicalized, but the bureau dropped its inquiry months before the photo was taken because it said it “did not find any terrorism activity.”

The black flag picture is part of the evidence prosecutors said Matanov deleted from his computer to obstruct the investigation into the bombings, which in turn led to the arrest of the Kyrgyzstani national last month on federal charges. He has pleaded not guilty and is currently being held without bail.

The FBI report says the alarming photograph was taken on Eid-Al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, the highest of Muslim holidays, but does not say exactly when. A source familiar with the investigation told ABC News it was taken during the August 2012 celebration. The FBI report does not identify the mosque where the photograph was taken.

Tsarnaev and Matanov prayed at a mosque in Cambridge, Mass., the FBI report says, but Yusufi Vali, the Executive Director of the Islamic Society of Boston that opened the mosque told ABC News there were no reports of the black flag of jihad being at the 2012 Eid holiday, or at any other time. Tsarnaev had been asked to leave the Cambridge mosque after he disrupted services later that same year.

“Without doubt there is no symbol of violence or terrorism at the [Cambridge] center,” said Vali. “I can confidently say that we preach moderation in line with more American values.”

Yes, completely in line with American values, such as when the Imam Suhaib Webb of the Islamic Society of Boston called secularism a “lunatic ideology.”

…The Islamic Society of Boston was founded by Abdulrahman Alamoudi, who pleaded guilty in 2004 to charges related to his “activities… with nations and organizations that have ties to terrorism” — including a link to an assassination plot targeting Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Abdullah ibn Abdilaziz, according to the Department of Justice. He was sentenced to 23 years in prison. To this day the FBI lists Alamoudi’s prosecution as a “Major Terrorism Case” on its website.

Tarek Mehanna, 31, was a pharmaceutical student at a Massachusetts college where his father worked as a professor, and lived with his parents in upscale Sudbury where his mother ran a state-licensed day care center out of her home. He was convicted in 2012 of supporting al Qaeda and conspiring to kill Americans. Before that, Mehanna had visited the Cambridge center for prayers and lectures, in addition to visiting mosques in other parts of the state, Vali said.

After the Boston bombing, investigators found a Tarek Mehanna prayer card tucked into a Russian dictionary in Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s Cambridge apartment, according to court documents.

Who printed those cards? What did they say? Where were they distributed, and by whom?

Mehanna’s alleged accomplice, Ahmad Abousamra, also occasionally prayed at the Cambridge mosque. He had graduated from the prestigious Catholic high school Xavier with honors and his father, Dr. Abdul Abousamra, was a respected endocrinologist at Massachusetts General Hospital before moving to Detroit and was the President of The Islamic Center of New England, according to The Boston Globe.

After being interviewed by agents from the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, Abousamra was able to slip out of the country in 2006, according to the bureau. He was indicted in 2009 and last December he was added to the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists List with a $50,000 reward for information leading to his capture.

Perhaps most controversial of the group, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui also prayed at the Prospect Street mosque while she earned a scientific doctorate degree at MIT. She eventually moved overseas with her husband and two children. She was detained in 2008 after Afghan officials found her in possession of handwritten notes that referred to a “mass casualty attack” along with a specific list of targets like the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge.

As military intelligence officials and FBI agents questioned her at a police compound in Afghanistan, prosecutors said, she grabbed an assault rifle from a U.S. serviceman and opened fire on her interrogators while saying “Death to America,” according to the reported testimony of witnesses. No one was killed in the sudden attack. Siddiqui was convicted in 2010 on federal terrorism charges and sentenced to 86 years in prison.

Director Vali insisted that all were “infrequent” worshippers at the Cambridge center, as were the Tsarnaev brothers, and they also worshipped at other mosques. Their affiliation with the Islamic Society of Boston should not cast aspersions on either the Cambridge center or the larger Roxbury mosque, where some 1,200 worship every week, Vali said.

“When the [Boston] bombings happened initially, like most Bostonians, we were all traumatized and scared. We were devastated that these people were part of city and part of our mosque,” he said….

Is that why, in the wake of the Boston jihad bombing, the Islamic Society of Boston sent out an email to members telling them to contact the ACLU if the FBI wanted to talk with them?

The Growing Shadow of ISIS

This report by Ilana Freedman and Jerry Gordon is republished from New English Review —

As the chaos in the Middle East continues to churn towards regional meltdown, the complexity of the situation seems to have the West at a total loss. Nations once known as world leaders, most notably the United States, appear unable to even understand the cast of players. No viable policy that could effectively counteract the forces at play has emerged. Into that vacuum has rushed a flood of Islamist terrorist groups, fighting each other as well as the offending governments they have chosen to attack. It happened in Libya, then in Syria, in the Sinai, and most recently in Iraq.

The confrontations developing in the Middle East are the predictable outcome of the so-called “Arab Spring,” coupled with weak American leadership which has empowered Islamists throughout the world to challenge the West at every opportunity. They know that the West will not respond.

The “Arab Spring” began in Tunisia in 2010, and raced through Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, Nigeria, and other countries with large or predominantly Muslim populations whether Arab or not. The movement was later renamed the “Arab Awakening,” but changing the name didn’t change its Sunni Islamic character.

The common thread throughout these rolling revolutions that cut such a broad swath of the Muslim world was the dramatic shift from largely secular autocracies to Islamist-dominated governments. Uprisings that began naïvely as movements to promote democratic government, devolved into bloody and chaotic wars, spanning the region from West Africa to Malaysia. In many cases they installed new Islamist leaders governing under strict Shari’ah law.

Deeply imbedded and often covert in these conflicts is Shi’ah Iran and its proxies such as Hezbollah, hell-bent to generate chaos; presumably the chaos Shi’ah Muslims believe will precede the coming of the 12th Imam. On the other side are scores of Sunni groups, fighting the Shi’ah in Iraq, Assad in Syria, and each other wherever they can.

One of the most notorious of these is ISIS, the Islamic State of al-Sham (Syria) also known as ISIL (Islamic State of the Levant). Its reputation for fearlessness, brutal savagery, and radical Islamist ideology has created a serious new threat to the West.

Background

isis flagISIS evolved from a group founded by Jordanian Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in 2004. He gave the group the improbably long name of “The Organization of Jihad’s Base in the Country of Two Rivers.” In 2006, the name was changed to the simpler “Islamic State of Iraq” (ISI). Then, in 2012, after entering the conflict in Syria to challenge both the forces of the ruling Assad and the various opposition groups, secular and Islamist, ISI was changed to ISIS. Thus including Syria and reflecting its expanded goals, ISIS moved further away from the core al Qaeda agenda that did not embrace the Caliphate as a primary goal.

While the group’s original aim was to establish an Islamic caliphate in the regions of Iraq where there is a Sunni-majority, once the group became involved in the Syrian war, this mission was expanded to include controlling the Sunni-majority areas in northern Syria. In the course of ISIS’ expansion and successes in Syria, they opened a second front in Iraq. ISIS smashed through city after city and took a huge swath of the country from the north to central Iraq in the largely Sunni areas. The goal was expanded to attacks on the Syrian border to blur the boundaries between Iraq and Syria that could facilitate a merger into a single Islamist state.

On June 29, 2014, ISIS took a major step to achieve its goals. It formally announced the establishment of the Caliphate, naming Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi the “Caliph for all Muslims.” In a recorded message distributed online, ISIS spokesman Abu Mohammad al-Adnani said, “The Shura [council] of the Islamic State met and discussed [the caliphate] . . . . The Islamic State decided to establish an Islamic caliphate and to designate a caliph for the state of the Muslims . . . . The jihadist cleric Baghdadi was designated the caliph of the Muslims. . . . The leader of Muslims everywhere.”

Little is known about the shadowy figure of al-Baghdadi, also known as Abu Du’a. His name is a nom de guerre, and his real name is unknown. According to the US State Department, Baghdadi was born in Samarra, Iraq in 1971. He took over command of ISIS in 2010 after two of its commanders were killed in a US-Iraqi raid. In 2011, the US Treasury designated him a terrorist. Within ISIS, he is known as a battlefield commander and tactician, however his current whereabouts, like his history, is a matter for speculation. The US believes he is living in Syria, but others are certain he is in Iraq.

With the announcement came the news that the name of the organization was changed once again, this time to “The Islamic State.” The organization has called on al-Qa’eda and other jihadist Sunni factions to pledge their allegiance to the new Caliphate.

This is a stunning turn of events. In fact, its importance cannot be overstated. This one event has the power to galvanize the Sunni Muslim world in a way that has never happened before. However, it also has the power to enrage some of the Sunni jihadist groups, like al Qaeda, who are not likely to accept a role subservient to ISIS. Even worse, Shi’ah nations like Iran would never agree to show fealty to a Sunni caliphate. Their respective responses could well start a new round of conflicts and internecine terrorism unlike anything we have ever seen. Much depends on how responsible the leaders of the Muslim world will be in keeping the conflict of ideologies from exploding into war. If history is any gauge, there is little room for optimism.

ISIS has been infamous for the vicious brutality that has characterized its operations, and has left a trail of bloody horror behind it in Iraq and Syria, including crucifixions, mass murders, and dismemberment.  It would be unrealistic to expect them to care much about the welfare of the Muslim masses should conflict break out as a result of their announcement. Whatever happens next, it is not likely to be business as usual.

ISIS Funding

isis fundingOne of the most stunning changes for ISIS over the last year has been its rapid accumulation of wealth. Just as the group has surged in strength and prominence in Iraq and Syria in recent months, it has unquestionably become the wealthiest terrorist organization in the world, with an estimated worth of $5-7 billion. This wealth was acquired in several ways.

Among the most notable and colorful was the sacking of the Central Bank in Mosul in early June 2014. When Iraqi soldiers fled the bank they were supposed to protect, they left it wide open for ISIS. The terrorists seized $429 million, much of it in gold bullion. According to a CFR report, it is believed that supporters in Jordan, Syria, and Saudi Arabia have provided “the bulk of past funding.”

Another key source of ongoing revenues for ISIS, however, has been extortion from the populations wherever it takes control. Even before moving into a town or city, it demands “taxes” from local businesses. In this fashion, it is estimated that they have been able to net more than $8 million a month.

For the residents, the choice of whether or not to pay the “taxes” is simple. Failure to comply with these extortion efforts, or failure to pay on time, can result in penalties that include murder, kidnapping, and the destruction of their property. ISIS’ reputation for unspeakable brutality keeps their victims in line. All commercial activities in the areas controlled by ISIS are without exception, subject to ISIS’ extortion demands.

Other forms of revenue generation include drug trafficking, smuggling, theft, and looting.

Living Under ISIS Control

isis-terroristsThe harshest forms of Shari’ah law are imposed on those living under ISIS control. They include mandatory prayer in a mosque five times a day and required female “modesty” for all women, which means that every woman is forced to wear the full, body-covering chador.

In return, ISIS provides the population with social services, including health and welfare programs, bread factories, and food distributions to needy families. Unlike the Taliban, ISIS participates in polio-vaccination campaigns for local children. They have also established a number of religious schools for children, including schools for girls, and live-in “training camps” for “cub scouts.” Another part of ISIS’ governance is to provide for infrastructure construction and repairs.

ISIS has established a Consumer Protection Authority that has forced shops, supermarkets, and even kebab stands to close for selling poor quality products. They have burned cartons of cigarettes (considered Haram or forbidden in radical Islam), and desecrated graves and shrines they consider blasphemous. That includes the famous Uways al-Qurani shrine in Raqqa, which they blew up in a massive explosion.

In contradiction to their program of social services, the ISIS form of jurisprudence is extreme and harsh. ISIS has whipped people for minor infractions such as insulting a neighbor, cut off  the hands of those caught stealing, and summarily executed and crucified individuals for apostasy.

New Sources of Power

In recent weeks, ISIS has demonstrated an alarming show of power in Iraq, taking much of the world by surprise, and expanding its power in a number of ways.

Strategic partnering.   The first has been through strategic alliances to achieve the conquest of Iraq and Syria. In the latest surge southward in Iraq, ISIS forged alliances with 41 different groups as they moved their forces south towards Baghdad.

In addition to alliances with smaller groups like the Islamic Army, a Sunni rebel faction, ISIS teamed up with the Army of the Men of the Naqshbandi Order. This group was created in 2007 by former members of Saddam Hussein’s Baath party. Led by Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, Saddam’s former deputy, the Naqshbandi still enjoy considerable prestige in Iraq. They are thought to have thousands of soldiers, including many who were members of the Iraqi army before the U.S. invasion. Although their leaders seem to have a great deal of influence over ISIS, the relationship is more expedient than ideological.  It is not likely to last, particularly given the announcement of the Caliphate and all of the religious connotations that accompany it.

In April 2013, Baghdadi declared a merger between ISI and Jabhat al-Nusra, an al-Qaeda affiliate fighting in Syria. He said that al-Nusra was “merely an extension and part of the Islamic State of Iraq.” But Ayman al Zawahiri, the leader of al Qaeda, annulled the merger, ostensibly to end the increased tensions and infighting between the two groups. In a letter addressed to both leaders, he ordered ISI to limit its operations to Iraq. But Baghdadi responded by producing a video in which he announced the creation of ISIS, ushering in the beginning of new growth and power for the organization.

In addition to the alliances it has made, ISIS has also recruited thousands of fighters from the Arab world, Europe and North America, to join the fight in Syria and Iraq.

Applying Its Wealth.   Over the last year, ISIS has significantly expanded its clout through the acquisition of massive wealth, and the judicious use of its treasury – using its multi-billion dollar exchequer as a very powerful weapon. With it, ISIS has acquired resources, weapons, and influence. Combined with their ruthlessness, they have been able to command most of the areas they have set out to conquer, acquiring dominance over northern Syria and much of northern Iraq.

Acquisition of Lethal Weaponry.   Prior to 2014, ISIS suffered from a severe shortage of weapons as they faced the US-equipped Iraqi military forces. Once they launched their assault on Fallujah in January, however, the situation changed dramatically. Iraqi soldiers fled before them, leaving their weapons behind and their armories unsecured. As ISIS overran police stations and security posts, they helped themselves to stores of US weaponry and vehicles, including Humvees, which had been left behind by departing US troops. The Humvees have been seen driving around in places as far away as Aleppo, Syria, 250 miles away, filled with well-armed ISIS fighters.

Although there is no official accounting of how many weapons ISIS has acquired during the last six months, the numbers seem to be huge. Ahmad Dabaash, spokesman for the Islamic Army quipped, “Praise God, we soon had enough weapons to fight for one or two years!”

In an alarming turn of events, it was reported on June 19 that ISIS had overrun the Saddam Hussein-era al-Muthanna chemical weapons complex 60 miles north of Baghdad. This coup gave them access to hundreds of tons of potentially deadly poisons, including mustard and sarin gas.

ISIS has shown itself to be technologically competent, as well as brutal and ruthless. The possession of so much lethal material in their hands portends dire situations for those they consider dispensable.

Proliferation.   ISIS’ forays into Syria, laid the groundwork for rapid growth. Their particular style of conquest through rape, torture, and murder have made them feared and hated. That has enabled them to gain strength through fear, to build their war chest, and to set their sights on Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, and beyond.

Most recently, they have appeared unexpectedly in Gaza. On June 29, 2014 mourners at a funeral in Gaza were observed carrying the black and white flags of ISIS for one of the two terrorists, whose body was also draped in an ISIS flag. The two terrorists had been targeted in an Israeli airstrike for firing rockets from Gaza into populated areas of Israel. It was the first time that public signs of support for ISIS have been seen in Gaza, which is strictly controlled by Hamas, another Sunni Islamist terrorist group. Because it is customary for the body of a “martyr” to be buried in the flag of his organization, the fact that the terrorist’s body was wrapped in the ISIS flag would suggest a more than casual affiliation with the group.

In addition, the Egyptian Army claims that 15 ISIS operatives infiltrated the Sinai over the weekend of June 28th, but were captured, and that other ISIS fighters have been entering the Sinai from Gaza via tunnels. Hamas has flatly denied these allegations because it demonstrates their lack of control in the areas they are supposed to govern. However, the infiltration of Sinai, a terrorist playground, would be consistent with ISIS’ aim to expand its domain as far as possible. It also puts it in firing distance from every Islamist’s arch enemy, Israel.

Determined to destroy the national boundaries created in the Arab world following the 1916 Sykes-Picot Agreement, which established British and French spheres of influence in the Middle East after the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in WWI, ISIS has begun to institute the part of its plan that will blur the borders between Iraq and its neighbors, in order to re-establish an Islamic Caliphate to rule over a united Sunni territorial base.

In a bold move to achieve that goal, ISIS has not only attacked and captured several border crossings between Iraq and Syria, it has also attacked the only border crossing between Iraq and Jordan, another target of ISIS in its program to consolidate the entire Sunni Muslim region into a single Caliphate.

The continued activity of ISIS as it moves towards its goals, and the continued silence of the West, does not bode well for the region or the world. A video allegedly shot by ISIS terrorists at a captured Iraqi border post on the Syrian border shows captured Iraqi soldiers and vehicles, while an English-speaking fighter reaffirms the declaration of an Islamic Caliphate. (Watch the video here)

“This is not the first border we will break,” he says. “God will break all barriers….Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon…all of them until we reach Quds (Jerusalem). This is the first of many barriers we will break.”

ISIS on Israel’s Doorstep

Israeli soldier stands guard under an Israeli national flag during a tour made by Israeli parliament members in the Jordan Valley near the Jewish settlement of Maale EfrayimISIS is more than just a political threat in the sectarian turmoil of the Middle East. That was recognized in comments by  New York Rep. Peter King on ABC’s This Week that President Obama should be “very very aggressive” about ISIS. He was most immediately concerned about protecting our Embassy in Baghdad with 800 US security troops. There are also 300 US military advisors engaged in assessing what to do to bolster a divided Shiite-dominated military and government in Iraq. The al-Maliki government is now being supported by drones which are gathering intelligence and air strikes from Iran’s Quds Force.

King was also concerned about the estimated 100 American jihadis reported to be fighting with ISIS. ISIS has enticed them with English language weekly and annual reports and videos. My co-host, Lisa Benson, on the weekly Lisa Benson Show program, commented off–line about the plethora of such sophisticated ISIS social media that is published daily. That brought back memories of the successful 2008 campaign to get Google to shut down al Qaeda jihadist training websites.

The Administration for its part looks like the proverbial deer frozen in the headlights of ISIS. Last week, it floated the belated idea of funding $500 million to train “moderate” Sunni rebel fighters in the Syrian civil war. This is a civil war that looks increasingly like a stalemate between ISIS and the Assad forces, backed by Hezbollah and Iran’s Quds Force with support from Putin’s Russia.

That Administration proposal may be more than a day late and a dollar short. Given that such aid would not even begin until 2015, should Congress approve it, it may be totally beside the point. We had reports in mid-June from Der Spiegel and other sources that the some CIA-trained rebel fighters in Jordan opted to join ISIS, given its stunning successes. We are likely to find that this is more the rule than the exception, as those we have trained opt for the success of ISIS’ terrorist activity.

As Dan Diker, Research Fellow at the International Institute for Counter Terrorism  in Israel, pointed out on the June 29, 2014  Lisa Benson Show, according to a Times of Israel report, anti-Assad Sunni rebels may control 95 percent of the Syrian Golan Heights which now is peppered with groups of fighters from various groups, including the Free Syrian Army, the Islamist Ahrar el Sham, the al Qaeda-linked al Nusrah, and in the town of Daraa, a contingent of ISIS, which is generally collaborating with al Nusrah, at least in this area.

Mudar Zahran on the same program noted that the Islamic Action Front (IAF), Jordan’s main Islamist political party and the political arm of the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood, which is largely Bedouin, is the strongest organized Islamist group in Jordan, and the only one represented in Jordan’s parliament. He drew attention to the daily pitched battles in the southern town of Ma’an between Jordanian security forces and local tribal supporters of the IAF flying ISIS flags. Ma’an is located less than three kilometers from Israel’s frontier. The headline in a Washington Post report on the turmoil in Ma’an read, “Jordan fears homegrown ISIS more than invasion from Iraq.”

The security of Jordan as a buffer state, as Diker pointed out, is foremost on the agenda of Israel‘s national security. We note the comments in The Times of Israel by former Israeli security cabinet strategic advisor Gen. Yaakov Amidror, who said that Israel should bolster the defense of Jordan against the ISIS onslaught. At the Institute of National Security Studies (INSS) of Tel Aviv University, on June 29, 2014, Israeli PM Netanyahu underlined these security issues. He talked about support for an Independent Kurdistan and completing a security fence along Israel’s eastern frontier from the Golan to Eilat. Netanyahu said:

The forces of fanatical Islam are already knocking on our door and Israel needs to be proactive to bolster its defense against enemy infiltration.

The first thing that we need to do is to build a security fence on our eastern border, and to build it gradually all the way from Eilat to merge with the security fence that we’ve been building over the last two years in the Golan Heights,” he said. “That fence does not hermetically prevent infiltration; it doesn’t prevent shooting through the fence as we saw tragically just a week ago; it doesn’t prevent barrages of missiles over it, or the digging of tunnels underneath it. But it does narrow down dramatically that permeation on Israel’s border.

Netanyahu also recognized internal threats to Israel’s security at a June 29, 2014 cabinet meeting. He announced that he would move to outlaw the northern branch of the Islamist Movement, whose leader, Sheikh Read Salah, has proposed to establish a Caliphate on the Temple Mount. In October 2013, we wrote in the Iconoclast post about Israeli Arab adherents of Sheik Salah joining up with anti-Assad Al Qaeda rebel forces in Syria. On June 27, 2014, there were rallies organized by Salah and his Islamist adherents in the Israeli Arab town of Umm al Fahm. They were protesting the raids by the IDF in Operation Brother’ s Keeper, and denying Hamas’ abduction of the three slain youths. Rock throwing by protesters was broken up Israeli riot police with tear gas and sound bombs. Netanyahu noted:

[The northern branch of the Islamist Movement] constantly preaches against the State of Israel and its people. [The Islamist Movement] publicly identifies with terrorist organizations such as Hamas. Therefore, I directed the relevant authorities to consider declaring the northern branch of the Islamic Movement as an illegal organization. This would give the security authorities significant tools in the struggle against the movement.

In May 2014, Netanyahu had been thwarted in such a move against the northern branch of the Islamist Movement by Justice Minister Tzipi Livni of Hatnua, because these enemies of the Jewish State are citizens. They are represented in Israel’s Knesset by Arab parties, espousing pro-Palestinian positions verging on sedition.

Israel is faced with difficult choices. With ISIS moving southward towards its northern border, and developing a presence at its southern border, the list of Islamic terrorist groups staging around the Jewish state is growing and becoming increasingly emboldened. The recent kidnapping and murders of three Jewish teens by Hamas may only be the beginning of a new campaign to destroy Israel from without and within.

ISIS Threat to the Netherlands and the Draconian Solution

Soeren Kern presented the reality of the ISIS threat to the Netherlands drawn from a Dutch intelligence (AIVD) report to the Hague Parliament in a Gatestone Institute article,Dutch Jihadists in Syria Pose Threat to the Netherlands. He wrote:

AIVD says the age of Dutch jihadists is decreasing constantly and the number of women in this group is growing. Most of the fighters are of Moroccan descent, although some are from Bosnia, Somalia, and Turkey. Many of the Dutch jihadists are second-generation immigrants who were born in the Netherlands. They mostly come from the Dutch cities of Delft, Rotterdam, Zeist, and The Hague.

The vast majority of Dutch jihadists in Syria have joined one of two rebel groups, the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant [ISIL] or Jabhat al-Nusra [JaN]. AIVD believes that at least ten individuals from the Netherlands were killed in 2013, including two Dutch jihadists who blew themselves up in suicide attacks (one in Syria and one in Iraq).

More than 100 Dutch Muslims traveled to Syria in 2013 with the intention of taking part in jihadist activities there. At least 20 battle-hardened jihadists have since returned to the Netherlands, posing a significant threat to national security, according to a new report published by AIVD.

The AIVD annual report for 2013 was presented by Interior Minister Ronald Plasterk and AIVD head Rob Bertholee in The Hague on April 23, 2014. In contrast to previous years, when the main security threat was deemed to be a cyber-attack, the principal concern in this year’s report is the mounting threats posed by the returning jihadists, as well as by Muslim hate preachers who are using the Internet to radicalize young Dutch Muslims and incite them to violence.

The report warns that the presence of European fighters in Syria provides the jihadist groups active there with an “excellent opportunity to recruit individuals familiar with our region to commit acts of terrorism here.” In addition, returnees could “exploit their status as veterans to radicalize others in the Netherlands.” Overall, AIVD’s primary concern is about the radicalizing influence that Dutch jihadists will exert on Muslim communities in the Netherlands.

Geert Wilders, leader of the Dutch Freedom Party (PVV) has raised the visibility of the Jihadist threat from mass Muslim emigration in a series of campaigns over a decade that have placed him under 24/7 protection of the Royal Dutch Protective Services. He has been subjected to prosecution for violating hate speech laws in the Netherlands from which he won acquittal in a landmark case in 2011. Wilders in a Gatestone Institute article, “Terrorists among Us” proposed ten steps to combat it in the Netherlands which might be considered elsewhere in the West:

  1. automatically strip immigrants with dual nationalities of their Dutch passports if they leave our country to fight for Islam in Syria;
  2.  immediate administrative detention of those fighters who have already returned;
  3. the reintroduction of border controls ceded when it joined the EU;
  4.  halt immigration of people from Islamic countries. International treaties prohibiting these measures should either be modified or terminated;
  5. encouragement of voluntary repatriation of people originating from Islamic countries;
  6. deal severely with the supporters of the fighters in Syria. Mosques, Islamic schools and other organizations that provide financial or other support to those who go to fight in Syria must be closed down immediately;
  7. spend more money on security. Money that is currently being wasted on development aid would better be spent on the AIVD (the Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service);
  8. stop Dutch military intervention in the Islamic world and focus on the protection of the Netherlands;
  9. support Israel and stimulate economic relations with the Jewish state. Israel is the front line in the fight against jihad. If Israel falls, the West falls; and
  10. break diplomatic relations with countries, such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar that support terrorist groups like ISIS.

In support of these draconian measures, Wilders cites a recent poll taken in the Netherlands.

Among the poll’s findings:

  1. 82 per cent of the Dutch believe that jihadists returning from Syria and Iraq increase the risk of an attack in the Netherlands;
  2. 76 per cent favor stripping jihadists of their Dutch nationality;
  3.  67 per cent want to introduce border controls to prevent them from returning;
  4. 75 per cent want additional manpower for the AIVD;
  5. 65 per cent of all Dutch believe that Islamic culture does not belong in the Netherlands.

Conclusion

The declaration by ISIS of a Caliphate bestriding Syria and Iraq has been a wakeup call to the West. Israel has ISIS on its doorstep while the Netherlands has realized that Muslim mass emigration has spawned dangerous Jihadis in its midst. The Obama Administration continues to hold a myopic view about the threat, while some in Congress are raising the alarm that it must be addressed in order to protect the country’s national security interests. The question is whether the West has the resolve to take the hard steps suggested by Wilders. The ISIS Caliphate’s declaration means that the West will have to defend itself from jihadis inside and from a veritable terrorist army that has planted itself on their doorstep.

When the World Goes Crazy it First Kills Jews

Consider this, if there had been a state of Israel in the 1930s, many more European Jews would have been able to escape the fate that consumed six million of them during the Nazi Holocaust during World War II.

That there is an Israel today explains when French and Ukrainian Jews are leaving their native countries and making Israel their new home. In mid-June, the Associated Press reported that “Increasing numbers of French Jews are leaving for Israel, citing dim economic prospects and a sense of being caught between an increasingly influential far right and militant Islam. More than 5,000 are on track to leave this year, the most since after the Six-Day War in 1967.”

The chairman of the Jewish Agency, Natan Sharanky, speaking recently, noted that immigration to Israel from around the world had increased by 55%, with particular emphasis on those from France and Ukraine. The Jewish newswire service, Ynet, reported that “Never before has such a large proportion of a Western community made aliyah (return) in a single year.”

If you were a French or Ukrainian Jew, you’d do the same thing if you could. In May, Three Jews, two of whom were Israelis, were murdered and one was wounded at the Jewish Museum in Brussels, Belgium. The suspect, profiled by French police, was a convict radicalized in prison and suspected of having joined Islamists in Syria to fight alongside them. A “disturbing reality” reported The Wall Street Journal is that “hundreds of Europeans have similar backgrounds.”

Seeing the increase, Israel is planning to dedicate $29 million over the next two years to bring in new immigrants.

I don’t see any difference between the Nazis of the 1930s and the Islamists of these years. The Nazis received a lot of support from the Arabs of their era. As for Islam, the Koran is filled with admonitions against Jews in particular and every other “infidel” in general. While there have been periods of tolerance for Jews over the past 1,400 years, the animus towards them has never been reduced and, in present times, we have seen a massive rejection of Christians as well. When Israel became a state in 1948, thousands of Jews from throughout the Middle East fled for their lives to settle there.

What history confirms is that a rise of anti-Semitism has been a signal of greater, wider troubles to come.

The Jewish Virtual Library, in its section on Zionism—the belief that Jews should have a nation-state of their own—notes  that “In the late 19th century, the rise of anti-Semitism led to a resurgence of pogroms in Russia and Eastern Europe, shattering promises of equality and tolerance. This stimulated Jewish immigration to Palestine from Europe.”

Moreover, Zionism does not discriminate against anyone. Israel’s open and democratic character, and its scrupulous protection of the religious and political rights of Christians and Muslims, rebut the charge of exclusivity. Moreover, anyone—Jew or non-Jew, Israeli, American, or Chinese, black, white, or purple—can be a Zionist.”

The rise of Islamism has given rise to much turmoil in the Middle East and in Africa. Nigeria is plagued by Boko Haram, an Islamist terrorist organization that is kidnapping girls and attacking Christian churches. The rise of the Islamic State of Syria and Iraq (ISIS) has evoked global concern for that can occur if it turns its attention to Turkey, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and even Iran. Israel’s defense forces have been on alert.

The kidnapping and killing of three teenagers, one of whom was an American, has provoked a number of military attacks to respond to Hamas, the Gaza-based terrorist organization that has “united” with the Palestinian Authority.

t aid to the PA, plus an additional $225 million in funding through the U.N. This continues despite the fact that U.S. foreign appropriations bills expressly forbid funding for “assistance to Hamas or any entity effectively controlled by Hamas or any power-sharing government of which Hamas is a member.” The U.N. remains a hotbed of antagonism toward Israel despite the fact that it is a member.

Despite the long record of accord and cooperation between the U.S. and Israel, support for Palestinian organizations defies justification given their unbroken record of refusal to agree to any peace with Israel, a nation that has been the only true ally the U.S. has had in the Middle East.

The discord in the Ukraine was accompanied by open antagonism for that nation’s Jewish population. The events in France, Belgium, and in England as well, all suggest an anti-Semitism, long an element of life in these nations, is growing. Much of it is attributed to the growing Muslim populations in these and other European nations.

We all know the ultimate enemy of the West is Islam. The decision by thousands of European Jews to move to Israel is a signal of an increasing threat that should not be ignored.

Iraq: What Now?

The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) is an al-Qaeda offshoot which now controls a state the size of Jordan, spanning eastern Syria and northern Iraq. On 29 June, it declared this territory an Islamic caliphate, and the group’s emir Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as its caliph. ISIS immediately demanded that other groups swear loyalty to them and rebranded itself as the Islamic State.

Why Does the Caliphate Matter?

The existence of a caliphate is key to both violent and non-violent Islamist groups. They aspire for the creation ofdar-al-Islam (land of Islam), which would institute sharia law and provide leadership, security and unity for Muslims around the world. The caliphate was to be run by one leader, who has historically been seen as a successor to Islam’s Prophet Mohammed. The first caliphate was established in the 7th century, after Mohammed’s death, and subsequently subsumed large swathes of territory in Muslim-majority countries. The last caliphate – the Ottoman Empire – was dissolved in 1924, which continues to be a source of grievance for extremist groups.

Most Muslims will reject the ISIS declaration of a caliphate, although it could attract a new wave of jihadis. This will in part depend upon how key jihadi theologians interpret ISIS’ actions. While most are yet to speak out on it, one who has, Abu Muhammad al-Maqdisi, has rejected the ISIS declaration and labelled them ‘deviants’.

Who is the New ‘Caliph’?

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was born in Samarra, Iraq, in 1971. He attended university in Baghdad, gaining a doctorate in Islamic Studies and History, and formerly served as an Islamic teacher.

There is conflicting information about much else in al-Baghdadi’s past. Following the US invasion of Iraq in 2003, he is thought to have overseen religious courts in Qaim, northwest Iraq, accusing local citizens of supporting the Iraqi government and coalition troops. He was believed to have kidnapped and publicly executed individuals and even entire families; recruited fighters (mainly from Saudi Arabia) and funnelled fighters from Syria into local terrorist cells.

In October 2005, the Department of Defense announced that it had ‘likely’ killed al-Baghdadi in an air strike (something specifically referred to in a President Bush speech though an assessment deemed faulty by the US by December 2006). Yet also in 2005, al-Baghdadi was also supposedly captured by US forces and jailed. During this time he is thought to have been recruited into al-Qaeda in Iraq, being released in 2009. This contradicting information about al-Baghdadi has yet to be resolved.

Following the death of two Islamic State of Iraq (ISI, which was what ISIS was known as then) leaders in a US airstrike in April 2010, al-Baghdadi became the ISI’s emir, the first Iraqi to hold this position. In April 2013, al-Baghdadi rebranded his group as ISIS, claiming dominion to also operate in Syria. This contributed to theireventual expulsion from the al-Qaeda network in early 2014.

Al-Baghdadi currently has a $10m bounty on his head, making him one of the most wanted terrorists in the world.

Didn’t the West Leave a Safe and Secure Iraq Behind?

President Obama previously claimed to have withdrawn US troops ‘responsibly’ and ‘ended the war’ in Iraq. However, this was not the case – violence in Iraq has remained at a consistently high level, even if media coverage of this violence has not.

There was a time when the prospects for Iraq were more optimistic. The Iraqi insurgency – of which al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI, the group that would eventually become ISIS) was a key component – carried out thousands of deadly attacks in Iraq following the US invasion. Yet in late 2006/early 2007, the US began to work closer with the Sunni tribes (who despised the brutality of AQI), paying them to maintain security locally. This coincided with a ‘surge’ of US forces. ISI was subsequently crushed. With the tribal groups committed to keeping ISI in check, civilian deaths plummeted and the overall security situation improved exponentially.

However, the 2011 US withdrawal from Iraq removed not only a military check against ISI, but a political check on the sectarian leanings in Baghdad. The US had previously acted as a key mediator in Iraqi internal affairs, but troop withdrawal reduced US political leverage. Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki began to marginalise the Sunni tribes, removing them from security forces and stopping payments to them. Competent military commanders who worked with the US were removed in favour of Maliki loyalists.

With the US military presence gone – and the Obama administration largely disengaged from affairs in Iraq – a fresh wave of sectarianism emanated from the Maliki government. For example, Tariq al-Hashemi, the Sunni Vice President, fled to Turkey after being accused of being a terrorist and was subsequently sentenced to death; approximately 150 bodyguards and staff members of Sunni finance minister Rafie al-Issawi were arrested; several Sunni women were arrested in an attempt to gain intelligence on their husbands; and the army was purged of certain Sunni officers.

Such actions fostered greater resentment, enabling ISI to co-opt a level of support from former Baath party and sympathetic tribal groups. The latter were alienated to the extent that they began to allow ISI greater room to operate. The group was further energised by the jihadist conflict taking place to their west in Syria, in which ISI would begin to play an increasingly decisive role.

In January 2014, an increasingly powerful ISIS took over Fallujah and parts of Ramadi. In June, it took Iraq’s second city of Mosul. A host of other towns fell, as Iraqi troops abandoned their positions in the face of the ISIS advance.

What Does This Have to Do With Us?

As ISIS imposes strict sharia law in the territory it controls, there are obvious humanitarian concerns in Iraq. Yet there are also security and strategic interests at stake.

A)   ISIS already has a focus on the West

Gilles de Kerchove, the European Union’s counterterrorism coordinator, British Prime Minister David Cameron and former CIA Director General David Petraeus have all warned of ISIS attempting attacks in Europe and beyond. Indeed, ISIS already has connections to previous attacks in Europe.

  1. The perpetrators of the June 2007 attacks in London and Glasgow had the telephone numbers of ISI members on their mobile phones. One of the plotters – a British doctor – had previously fought in Iraq.
  2. In 2010, a senior ISI operative admitted to Iraqi forces that ISI was preparing to carry out an attack in the West at the end of that year. Taimour Abdulwahab al-Abdaly, an Iraqi-born militant, subsequentlycommitted a suicide attack in Stockholm, Sweden. He is thought to have trained with ISI in Mosul for three months prior to the operation.
  3. In June 2013, the Iraqi defense ministry announced that it had arrested a Baghdad cell planning to manufacture chemical weapons and smuggle them into the US, Canada and Europe.
  4. In June 2014, Mehdi Nemmouche, a French citizen whom French intelligence agencies believe joined ISIS in Syria in 2012, shot and killed three people at the Jewish Museum in Brussels. His gun waswrapped in an ISIS flag.

ISIS now controls a large amount of territory, from which it can attract new recruits and providing aspiring jihadists with training for attacks both in Iraq and beyond. Such a safe haven developing is clearly a significant security concern.

B)   If we don’t intervene, Iran will be allowed unchallenged influence

If the West remains on the sidelines in Iraq, its strategic competitors will fill the vacuum. China and Russia, for example, are already investing heavily there. Yet it is Iran that has the largest stake in Iraq.

Iran aspires for regional hegemony and to expand its influence in Iraq, Syria and southern Lebanon. When the US military was operating in Iraq, Iran was training, arming and funding both Shia and Sunni militias within Iraq in order to destabilise the country. It now aims to stoke sectarian tensions and reduce national cohesion, uniting Iraqi Shiites behind Iran as a political bloc. Iran wants a weak, fragmented Iraqi government comprised of key figures sympathetic to them. The US military withdrawal was a key step toward achieving those objectives.

Any new Iranian offers to mediate disputes should not necessarily be regarded as an act of goodwill, as it is often they who are a key force behind creating these disputes in the first place.

C)   The nature of our previous involvement means we have an obligation

The US and the UK led a military intervention to depose a dictator from Iraq, leading to thousands of jihadists fighting Western forces there. While these jihadists were temporarily defeated militarily by the US ‘surge’, the West became increasingly disengaged from Iraq – militarily and politically. This allowed Maliki’s dictatorial tendencies to come to the fore and his sectarian policies have created huge problems in Iraq. Rather than ignore this, the West have a moral duty to be proactive in helping Iraq shape a secure, democratic future.

Is a military response needed?

ISIS is a hugely ambitious and aggressive group that will not willingly relinquishing its newly claimed territory. Furthermore, the Iraqi military appears incapable of reclaiming it.

Therefore, there is a role for a US-led military response. Since President Obama has ruled out introducing US ground troops, there will need to be a reliance on aerial power. High value targets within ISIS – with al-Baghdadi being the top priority – could be targeted by US drone strikes, as could ISIS supply routes. However, this is dependent on three key factors:

  1. Having the intelligence in place for such attacks. Special Forces are now operating in Iraq, who can help provide some of this intelligence. Yet they will be trying to rebuild relationships lost after the US troop withdrawal in 2011. There will be especially significant trust issues regarding the tribes, who had previously been abandoned by the US and then repressed by Maliki.
  2. That this is done to weaken ISIS, not strengthen Maliki. Opinion in Iraq is increasingly hardeningagainst Maliki staying in his position, and the US should not be seen to be taking Maliki’s side in domestic political wrangling within Iraq.
  3. The US remains committed to assisting Iraq both militarily and politically. Disrupting the terrorist cells in Iraq needs to be done on a regular basis, not just when groups like ISIS get so strong that they control large amounts of territory. So too does the need to build up democratic institutions and harness civil society’s faith in them. At present, very little money is committed to democracy and governance assistance causes in Iraq. The US needs to show greater political commitment to prioritising democracy promotion.

Conclusion

Western disengagement from Iraq facilitated an authoritarian government emerging that was closely tied to Iran. This undid much of the good work of the ‘surge’ and led to the revival of jihadism in Iraq.

Now, ISIS poses not only a great threat to the region, but also the West. As a result, the West must once again deepen its involvement in Iraq both politically and militarily. If it has good enough intelligence, it can carry out aerial strikes against high value targets and against the supply routes between towns that ISIS uses. However, the US cannot be seen to be strengthening an increasingly weak Maliki, and must remain (at best) non-committal on his future.

Iran will remain highly interventionist in Iraq, seeking to shape a government pliant to its objectives – this is something the West must also remain cognisant of, no matter Iran’s overtures about playing a constructive role in Iraq.

Evolution versus “deaf, dumb and blind” believers in Earth being only 6,000 years old

Numerous sciences support the biblical account of creation. History, culture and the greatest men of intellect and character also support creation and a chronology of 6,000 years.

Pat Robertson of the 700 Club said on TV, “you have to be deaf, dumb and blind to think that this Earth that we live in only has 6,000 years of existence.” He might be right if he meant inorganic rocks when “earth was without form” in Genesis 1:2 before God created according to the rest of the chapter.

But if Robertson meant life on earth existed many thousands or millions of years ago, Robertson may be ignorant—either uninformed or ignoring evidence from numerous branches of science, as well as the best historical records we have, the Bible and the witness of Christ.

1. Astronomy: “May 5, 2000: The date that Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn will line up with the sun and moon—the first time in 6,000 years.” TIME Magazine, Jan 17, 2000. This quote from the European edition supports biblical chronology dating the Creation (when God put “lights in the sky for signs and seasons,” Genesis 1:14)  to 4,000 years BC.

2. Sir Isaac Newton, one of the greatest intellects of all times, known for his laws of physics and development of calculus, was also an excellent student of Scripture. His chronology of the Bible puts the earth at 6,000 years after Creation on the same year as the above factoid from TIME.

3. Archeology is a science and findings in the Mesopotamia support Genesis as a factual book of history by finding references to Abraham’s grandfather, Eber, from which we get the word Hebrew.

4. Anthropology supports the biblical account of the creation week because cultures worldwide have observed a 7-day week from antiquity, and many languages refer to the 7th day as sabbath, shabbat, sabado or similar.

5. Geology supports the Flood in Genesis as a basis for glaciers and ice at the poles and Grand Canyon phenomena. For more, the reader may browse  the Creation-Evolution Encyclopedia online.

6. Genesis was written by Moses, a credible source of law as the central sculpture over the Supreme Court entrance suggests. Would we expect Moses who wrote “You shall not bear a false witness” to write a fictional account of the Flood or of Creation?

7. What about the 4th Commandment which says, “in six days the LORD made heaven and earth…” and gave us the 7th day as a memorial of His creative act. Do we think Christ knew better and He just went along with a Jewish thing to observe the Sabbath that the Jews kept?

8. Abraham Lincoln wrote, “In regard to the great book…It is the best gift God has given to man. But for it, we would not know right from wrong. I am profitably engaged in reading the Bible. Take all of this book upon reason that you can and the rest by faith, and you will live and die a better man.”

Dr. Florence Stratemeyer, Professor of Education at Columbia University’s Teacher College reviewed Ellen White’s book, “Education” and eulogized her insights on a balanced curriculum to address the whole person, body, mind and spirit. The book’s chapter on Science and the Bible supports harmony of science rightly interpreted with the biblical account and shows serious problems with evolution, pg 130. Having done homeschooling, Education is the best basic support for it that I know.

I attended a conference in Washington, D.C. with hundreds of scientists who believe the biblical account of Creation. Et Tu Jewish Council for Public Affairs?

Shortly after Noon on July 2, 2014, the Washington, DC-based Jewish Council for Public Affairs (Jewish Council or JCPA in the US) put out a statement with the headline, “JCPA Mourns Palestinian Teenager, Calls for an End to Violence”.  The Jewish Council proclaims itself  as “Voice of Jewish America”.  It numbers among constituent members major American Jewish organizations such as the ADL, American Jewish Committee, Hadassah, Jewish War Veterans and many of the local Jewish Community Relations Councils (JCRCs) of Federations.  The JCRC’s have been in the forefront of promoting outreach to non-Jewish communities, in all too many instances, engaging in Jewish Muslim dialogues that have backfired.  Se our January 2011 NER article, “Dialogue with Radical Muslims is Dangerous for American Jews”.

Mohammed Khedair

The late 17-year old Mohammed Abu Khedair.

The JCPA news release drew attention to the discovery of the burned remains of 16 year old Mohammed Abu Khedair in a Jerusalem forest.   CNN reported, that Khedair “was heading from his home to a mosque in the middle-class neighborhood of Shoafat for prayers around 4 a.m. when three men forced him into a car and drove off, according to his father Hussain Abu Khedair. His burned remains were found an hour later.”   Who were the three men who abducted  and murdered Mohammed Abu Khedair is the subject of investigations by Israel’s national Police.  Moreover, why was the Jewish Council compelled to issue this statement within less than 12 hours after news broke and without any investigation by Israeli National Police?

According to CNN, “The Palestinian state news agency WAFA blamed the kidnapping and killing on “settlers,” saying Abu Khedair’s body “was charred and bore signs of violence”. The announcement of the younger Khedair’s kidnapping and murder set off riots by Palestinians in the elite section of Shoafat and throughout East Jerusalem.  Israeli riot police were engaged in pitched battles with rock throwing Palestinians throughout Wednesday, July 2nd.   PA President Abbas demanded that Israeli PM Netanyahu condemn the Palestinian teenager’s kidnapping and death, which Netanyahu had already done. There were calls of “Death to Arabs” by protesters in Jerusalem seeking revenge for the murders of three Jewish yeshiva students whose bodies were discovered buried under rocks in a field north of Hebron not far from the site of their original abduction while hitchhiking home on June 12, 2014.

Rachelle Frankel 7-2-14

Tuesday, July 1st, the remains of the three Jewish teenagers, each draped in the blue and white flag of Israel were buried side by side with tens of thousands of mourners attending their funeral and interment at a cemetery in Modiin.  PM Netanyahu, President Peres and  Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon eulogized the victims endeavoring to  comfort the grieving families of  Eyal Yifrah, 19, Gilad Shaar, 16, and Naftali Frenkel, a 16-year-old with dual Israeli-American citizenship.

President Obama in his statement on June 30, 2014 condemned the senseless act of terrorism that took the three teens, while “urging all parties to exercise restraint to prevent further destabilizing the situation”.  That admonition was directed at both Israel and the PA urging them to restrain from possible reprisals, especially extra judicial violence.

In a call to US Secretary of State Kerry on Wednesday, July 2nd, Netanyahu was reported by State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki to have said: “that he had asked for an investigation to find out who was responsible for the despicable murder as soon as possible, that anyone who takes a life will be punished severely.”

The Khedair family was reported by Ha’aretz to have “angrily denied the rumors that their son’s death was some sort of “family honor” killing or connected to an inter-family feud.

“Our family is not involved in any disputes and he was a good boy,” said Mahmoud, a cousin of the dead teen. “This is not a family problem. This was a kidnapping and everyone has to know that.” Young Khedair was characterized by his mother as always “kind” in a CNN interview. He would have graduated high if he had not been murdered.  She said he was always on his computer working with Facebook.  Perhaps his Facebook page might provide some clues of the range of his interests. His murder comes just after the start of the Muslim religious period of Ramadan when Islamic religious fervor is at a peak of intensity.

Lori Lowenthal Marcus, US correspondent for The Jewish Press, questioned the unseemly haste of issuing a statement extending condolences to the Khaider family on the murder of their son Mohammed  drawing attention  to the possible that might have been a revenge reprisal for the murders of the three Jewish teens,“Voice of American Jewry: Israel accused in Arab Teen’s Death”.

JCPA President Rabbi Steven Gutow noted in the statement that, “the circumstances of his death remain uncertain,” the same sentence then takes a sharp turn and places the blame squarely on Israel: “it appears that Mohammed was not a party to nor instigator of the tragic events of recent days and weeks. But he now has paid the ultimate price regardless.”

So although no one yet knows for certain how the teenager died or who was responsible, the JCPA publicly drew a target on the back of the Jewish State. Not content to simply act as judge and jury, the JCPA proceeded to send out the statement to its members across the country, inviting everyone to embrace its judgment – that Israel or individual Israelis are responsible for the Abu Khaider’s murder, and pronouncing the murder a revenge attack.

South Florida Jewish activist, Alan Bergstein, commented, in a forwarded email of the Jewish Press report:

Rabbi Steve Gutow, who founded the political, National Jewish Democratic Council, a rubber stamp outfit for the Democrat Party.  Ditto, the JCPA. Their annual “plenums” reek of Palestinian spokespeople and J Street propagandists to divide the American Jewish community and weaken our links to Israel. It behooves some of their organizational members to come out and denounce the JCPA’s outrageous statement.

Lowenthal questioned why the Jewish Council made this rush to judgment:

The JCPA rushed to put out a public statement less than 24 hours after the death was discovered. And in that statement the JCPA presented itself as judge, jury and sound system with a verdict of guilt for Israel.

Why the rush? It took the JCPA 3 days to condemn the kidnapping of the three Israeli teenagers. Perhaps that was due to an abundance of caution – one would not want to falsely accuse anyone. If so, why the different standard here?

Perhaps the JCPA’s goal was to present themselves as the “good Jews,” the ones who not only condemn the murder of an Arab but who rush blindly forward with its finger pointed at the “bad Jews,” the Israeli Jews, the ugly, violent Israeli Jews who would do such a thing, and to heck with truth and facts and evidence.

Because if the goal was to help to reduce violence, to help shepherd the masses poised to strike back to a path towards calm, the JCPA statement will only achieve the opposite. The statement will fuel the fire of hatred by anti-Semites who readily believe Israelis should be punished for Mohammad’s death, whether or not Israelis are guilty. And look, here’s an official Jewish coalition, officially blaming Israel! It will also inflame anger towards those whom JCPA claims to represent by supporters of Israel who believe that the Jewish State is entitled to the presumption of innocence at least until strong evidence is produced pointing in the opposite direction.

Et Tu, Jewish Council  of Public Affairs?

Immigrant camp worker: People won’t believe what is going on in America

Obama has stated he will use his executive authority to “fix” the immigration problem in America. In fact he recently stated these illegal immigrant kids who have flooded across our southern border must go back home. We shall wait and see if rhetoric meets action.

In the meantime, we could be facing a serious health crisis at the immigrant border camps. It’s so bad, staff have been threatened with arrest if they reveal the truth.

kid-300x180According to a report by Todd Starnes at FoxNews.com, “A government-contracted security force threatened to arrest doctors and nurses if they divulged any information about the contagion threat at a refugee camp housing illegal alien children at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.”

Starnes says, “In spite of the threat, several former camp workers broke their confidentiality agreements and shared exclusive details with me about the dangerous conditions at the camp. They said taxpayers deserve to know about the contagious diseases and the risks the children pose to Americans.”

The fact that we have a situation where Americans are being threatened for telling the truth is in itself disturbing — but is sadly reflective of the progressive socialist, Chicago way of political thuggery, intimidation and coercion.

“There were several of us who wanted to talk about the camps, but the agents made it clear we would be arrested,” a psychiatric counselor told Starnes. “We were under orders not to say anything.” Starnes reports that the sources said workers were guarded by a security force from the Baptist Family & Children’s Services, which the Department of Health and Human Services hired to run the Lackland Camp.

At the immigrant camp, Starnes say “workers were stripped of their cellphones and other communication devices. Anyone caught with a phone was immediately fired. “Everyone was paranoid,” a worker said. “The children had more rights than the workers.” She said children in the camp had measles, scabies, chicken pox and strep throat as well as mental and emotional issues. “It was not a good atmosphere in terms of health,” she said. “I would be talking to children and lice would just be climbing down their hair. You could see the bugs crawling through their hair,” she said. “After we would rinse out their hair, the sink would be loaded with black bugs.”

Of course all of this may seem inconsequential to some folks — like Nancy Pelosi who said there’s not a crisis but an opportunity in all of this. However, we do know our federal government and its Department of Homeland Security has been transporting these illegal immigrants across the country in commercial buses and airplanes. The question is, were the aliens transported before or after delousing, and will the buses and planes now be used to transport the general American public?

Starnes says, “a former nurse at the camp addressed how she was horrified by what she saw. “We have so many kids coming in that there was no way to control all of the sickness – all this stuff coming into the country,” she said. “We were very concerned at one point about strep going around the base.” Both the counselor and the nurse said their superiors tried to cover up the extent of the illnesses. “When they found out the kids had scabies, the charge nurse was adamant – ‘Don’t mention that. Don’t say scabies,’” the nurse recounted. “But everybody knew they had scabies. Some of the workers were very concerned about touching things and picking things up. They asked if they should be concerned, but they were told don’t worry about it.”

The counselor, who wishes to remain anonymous, told Starnes she kept a detailed journal about what happened during her tenure at the facility. “When people read that journal they are going to be astonished,” she said. ‘I don’t think they will believe what is going on in America.”

The counselor received a call from federal agents demanding that she return to the military base and hand over her journal but she refused.

So what happened to the “most transparent administration?” The last thing we need in America is a health crisis, a sort of biological assault on the country.

However, in the world of liberal progressives, the ends justify the means. Apparently, the goal of fundamentally transforming America must happen “by any means necessary.”

The FBI Are Not America’s First-Line Defenders against Islamic Terrorism

American citizens are led to believe the FBI and it’s force of approximately 14,000 Federal Agents are America’s first line of defense against Islamic based terrorism. They are not. You, the American public are America’s first line of defense and if you do not do your job, we will have Al Qaeda and ISIS fighting in the streets of America and killing innocent Americans.

islamic book

Click on the book cover for a larger view.

The thirty page booklet pictured right is found in most Sunni Islamic mosques, public libraries and even in U.S. public schools. It is produced in Saudi Arabia and then distributed all across America by the hundreds of thousands through organizations such as CAIR (Islamic terrorist organization). It is a book meant to capture the attention of young children with it’s pretty colors. There is only one problem. The book is written and edited by Islamic terrorists such as Ali Al Timimi. He is currently in a U.S. prison for terrorist activity against America. Article by the Investigative Project on Ali Al Timimi.

The FBI does not consider this book, written by a terrorists, to be dangerous and a form of violent Islamic material. The FBI has recently stated only about 10% of mosques in America have violent material in their mosques. They are not even close to the true percentage. At least 80 plus percent have violent materials in their mosques, the same materials Al Qaeda and ISIS use to educate their mujahadeen (fighters) in understanding ‘Pure Islam’ as their Prophet Mohammed desired 1400 years ago.

I can not even give a number on emails, phone calls, and one on one conversations I have had with Americans who complain they have contacted the FBI to provide information pertaining to suspected Islamic terrorist activity in America, only to be ridiculed by the Agents and called Islamaphobes.

No American should be demeaned by the FBI when they are trying to protect our country. The FBI works for Americans, not for politicians and Islamic organizations such as CAIR and ISNA.

The FBI has forgotten an age old tactic to solve crimes, specifically crimes committed by Islamic terrorists. Human Intelligence (HUMINT) is the number one method of obtaining evidence about criminal activity. FBI Agents as well as other Agents from various agencies are relying on electronic technology to solve and prevent crimes. One becomes detached from the American public when you rely on ‘computers’ to prevent Islamic terrorist attacks.

You must remember American citizens (does not include illegal aliens) have always been on the front lines protecting our country, not the FBI and it’s 23 year old college kids who are taught by liberal professors on how to combat criminal activity.

The FBI was formed in 1908. Who protected our country prior to their formation? Answer: You. If you have any information pertaining to Islamic based terrorism, do not let an FBI Agent ignore and ridicule you. you must insist they do their job and taken a written report. You should obtain the report number. Even information that is not validated to obtain criminal activity must be noted by the FBI using an internal numbering system. Agents have forgotten even intelligence provided that may seem insignificant could be very significant when added to other pieces of information.

When reporting information to the FBI, always obtain a business card from the Agent and request follow up, even if they intend to do nothing. If you believe they are not taking you seriously, make a formal complaint against the Agent.

A major problem with the FBI is that they are under the direction of U.S. Attorneys, and at the top of the chain is the U.S. attorney, currently Eric Holder. Americans should not expect to be greeted politely by FBI personnel when reporting information on Muslims suspected of being involved in terrorism. Their boss Eric Holder has made it known that Islam and Muslims receive a higher priority from our government, than a non Muslim U.S. citizen. In the FBI there is no such term as Islamic based terrorism.

Holder and his boss Obama, have made it very clear to all that terrorism committed by Muslims has no attachment to the Islamic ideology. How we can defeat an enemy when our government does not identify the enemy? We can’t, unless American citizens become more involved and do the intelligence gathering the FBI should be doing.

We must all get more involved in the security of our country. A good example is from a good friend of mine, Steve Amundson from California. Steve puts in many hours of his off time to get involved in educating as many Americans as he can in the dangers of the Islamic ideology and Islamic terrorists. Please read this article about Amundson’s recent work on educating Americans.

Get involved or be prepared to raise the white flag of surrender to Islam.

Remember: “A Radical Muslim’ is a ‘Practicing Muslim’, a ‘Moderate Muslim’ is a ‘non Practicing Muslim’ or otherwise known as an Apostate of Islam… The penalty for Apostasy under Sharia law is Death.”

In Their Own Words: Amendment 2’s Attorney Says Pot Could be Recommended for Throat Pain, Trouble Sleeping & Problems Eating

The proponents of Amendment 2 have frequently defended their Amendment by citing the Florida Supreme Court’s ruling on the ballot summary language; but, the Vote No on 2 Campaign today revealed that during oral arguments, Amendment 2’s constitutional lawyer, Jon Mills, said that pot could be recommended for other conditions, specifically citing throat pain, trouble sleeping and problems eating.

During his oral argument in front of the Florida Supreme Court on December 5, 2013, Mills was asked to explain the broad catchall of “other conditions,” to which he gave an example of an individual having a conversation with their doctor.  During this hypothetical conversation, Mills stated that if the patient says: “I have throat pain, I can’t sleep, I’m having a problem eating…” that medical marijuana would then be an option for a doctor to recommend to someone with those issues.

To view the video clip of Mills’ statements, click the below video clip:

“The proponents of Amendment 2 have gone to great lengths to make Florida voters believe it would truly only be for those suffering from ‘debilitating diseases,’” said Constitutional Attorney Susan Kelsey.  “In fact, you don’t have to look any further than their misleading ballot title – Use of Marijuana for Certain Medical Conditions.”

“Yet by the Amendment 2 attorney’s own admission, during oral arguments in front of the Florida Supreme Court no less, doctors may be able to recommend pot to someone who suffers from ‘other conditions,’ such as throat pain, trouble sleeping and problems eating,” continued Kelsey.

The title and summary is all that most voters will see on the ballot, but if they wanted more information they would have to delve deeper to see that the authors defined a “debilitating medical condition” to include cancer, glaucoma, positive status for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), hepatitis C, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Crohn’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis or other conditions.

“Nowhere in the ballot title, summary or the definition of ‘debilitating medical condition’ do the authors list things like throat pain, trouble sleeping or problems eating.  Why?  Because they are trying to trick Florida voters into believing that pot will only be used for the list of truly terrible diseases that they list in the definitions.  But their own attorney affirms what we’ve been saying all along – this Amendment with the qualifier ‘or other conditions’ is pot for any purpose,” concluded Kelsey.

Deterring Terror Tactics: Israel’s Kidnap Problem

Israel’s Strategic and Political Context

Israel is facing an adversary that has proven extremely capable, displayed a total disregard for human rights and the laws of war and is pursuing asymmetric warfare utilising the full spectrum of strategic pain points.  The murder of the three teenagers by Hamas near Jerusalem is indeed a “reprehensible act of terrorism” (according to Ed Miliband) and an “appalling and inexcusable act of terror” requiring Britain to stand with Israel (per Prime Minister Cameron), but it is also a botched operation in a much larger war Hamas is fighting to destroy Israel.

Israel faces the most acute and existential threat out of any nation by the rise of radical Islam.  The brutality and annihilationist antisemitism these movements bring to bear is a crucial starting point when considering what is fundamentally a zero-sum game of survival that is difficult to fully comprehend from the relative security that other Western democracies such as the United Kingdom enjoy.

The Israeli electorate is committed to the search for peace based on a two-state solution, supported by an overwhelming majority, but is simultaneously aware of the historical rejectionism – the ongoing, systematic refusal by the Palestinians and much of the Arab world to accept Israel’s basic right to exist as a Jewish state – as well as the growing threats their country now encounters. Hamas is now part of a unity Palestinian Authority government in Gaza and the West Bank. Hezbollah, a terrorist organisation which shares Hamas’s annihilationist aims, menaces Israel from the north, and whilst Hezbollah is at war with ISIS in Syria (an Al-Qaeda offshoot that now also threatens Jordan – a potential calamity for Israel’s security), all three agree on the destruction of the Jewish state as a primary goal.

Tactical Utility of Kidnap Operations in the War on Israel

President Obama joined the chorus of British political leaders, condemning the murder of the teenagers as “a senseless act of terror”.  Soothing though the concept may be, there is nothing senseless about it once seen through the lens of the openly declared war the terrorist movements that surround Israel have been waging against the country.  Indeed, terrorist abduction-murders have a long history in the tactical arsenal of Hamas and Hezbollah’s war against Israel.

As early as 1989, Hamas founder Ahmed Yassin encouraged the tactic of kidnapping and murdering Israelis in order to use their bodies to negotiate prisoner releases – an implicit recognition of the value Israel places on its citizens’ lives.  Hamas has gone as far as publishing handbooks on how to conduct abductions effectively, including the ideal targets and hideout locations.  In 1994, after Yassin was arrested for terrorist offences, Hamas kidnapped a 19-year-old American-Israeli to demand his release for 200 of its own prisoners. Less than a week later, the hostage’s Hamas captors killed him during an IDF rescue attempt.

The most prominent application of the kidnap tactic came in July 2005 with the capture of IDF Cpl. Gilad Shalit.  After five years of captivity, Shalit was released in a prisoner exchange for 1,027 Palestinian prisoners – many of them with Israeli blood on their hands.  Hamas’ leaders are on the record citing the kidnap operation a huge success – its Political Bureau Chief and top decision-maker Khaled Mashaal touted it as a “great achievement” and publicly promised more to come.

In 2006 Hezbollah – a Shia terrorist organisation created by Iran and based in south Lebanon – attempted its own version of the tactic, mounting an attack to abduct Israeli soldiers as bargaining chips.  Having killed five Israeli soldiers and captured two wounded troops, it badly miscalculated Israel’s reaction to its latest blackmail attempt, sparking the month-long Second Lebanon War.  After the war ended, Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah was forced to concede that he had miscalculated the consequences and would not have ordered the abduction had he known the scope of Israel’s reaction.  Israel’s unexpectedly strong response cost Nasrallah significant support and re-established Israel’s deterrent power against the asymmetric threat posed by those seeking its annihilation, with a clear impact on their calculations vis-a-vis Israel to this day.

A Botched Terrorist Operation and Its Consequences

The abduction of the three Israeli teenagers appears to be a Hamas operation gone badly wrong. Israel has identified two suspects in the abduction-murder, both of them well-known Hamas operatives:  Marwan Kawasmeh and Amar Abu-Isa. The first suspect hails from the Kawasmeh tribe, a Hamas-affiliated clan of whom at least 9 members have blown themselves up in suicide bombings, killing scores of Israelis.

Though the Hamas leadership praised the operation, as it became clear it had gone awry they began to insist they had no information about it, nor were involved in any way.  The Palestinian President’s advisers, drawn from the Fatah movement that governs alongside Hamas, made clear to journalists that Hamas would pay a steep price for the operation.  President Abbas then went public condemning the kidnapping as an action that hurts the Palestinians, before attempting to build a preemptive coalition of international support to condemn any action Israel might take to defend its citizens.  Once it became clear the operation had been badly botched, Hamas announced preemptive threats in their usual vivid terms of “opening the gates of hell” for any Israeli security operation against Gaza.  Both President Abbas and Hamas are well aware that this is a deadly tactical game Hamas has instigated, and the Lebanese experience meant they know fully the risks Israeli defensive actions carry, meaning such calculations can go very badly wrong.

The Urgency of Deterrence for Israel

As Israel’s Security Cabinet deliberates over what action to take, it will be acutely aware of the outrage the Israeli electorate feels over this latest atrocity.  The Lebanese and Shalit cases have established the kidnap problem as a now intolerable dynamic for Israelis and they are calling for effective measures to deter future attacks.

Israel’s actions in Lebanon have effectively put its enemies to the north on notice about the severity of the response they can expect when trying to test her defences, but the dynamic inside the country with Hamas is different, given the complexities of the political landscape.  Israel has enjoyed good security cooperation with Fatah elements of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, working together to keep Hamas from establishing a foothold.  With the advent of the Fatah-Hamas unity government, the situation became increasingly complicated for the Israelis, and with this latest terrorist attack it is likely that the security balance will not hold.

The Way Forward

In seeking to defend itself from an asymmetric, existential threat, Israel will be forced to take strong actions to re-assert its deterrence power.  Diplomatic attempts at even-handedness, or reflexive condemnations of the ‘cycle of violence,’ are strategically and morally myopic: the random murder of Israeli civilians demands an equally strong, or stronger, response. Denunciations of the Israeli ‘occupation’ are also misdirected: the abduction was conducted in a ‘consensus’ settlement bloc the PA recognises will remain Israeli after a future peace deal, despite Hamas’s claims to all land between the Jordan Valley and Mediterranean Sea.  That is why politicians worldwide were so clear in their denunciation of this terrorist attack.

As Israel seeks to deter its foes from further attacks on civilians, it is crucial the United Kingdom, United States and other Western world leaders give Israel diplomatic cover in the international arena – in particular, in the ever-biased forum of the United Nations. A country with a keen appreciation for life has implemented targeted operations – not a collective punishment as has been claimed by Hamas and others.  Israel has conducted air strikes against Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip and arrested its leaders in the West Bank, targeted action against an organisation classified as a terror group by the United States, Canada, the European Union, the United Kingdom and even Arab states like Jordan and Egypt.  Should Jerusalem deem additional action necessary against Hamas, she must be given the time and space to do so.

For its part, Hamas has never disavowed terrorism against Israel but rather encourages it at every opportunity. The organisation continues to deny Israel’s right to exist and to abide by previous Palestinian agreements with the Jewish state. Hamas therefore fails all three conditions set by the Quartet of international peacemakers (the US, EU, UN and Russia) for inclusion in negotiations with Israel.

The unity government struck between Abbas’s Fatah faction and Hamas just days before the kidnapping is therefore itself illegitimate. The West’s tentative recognition of it – by the Obama administration, the EU, and Britain’s Conservative and Labour parties – is credulous and destined to fail. Rather than leading to further ‘dialogue’, bringing Hamas into the government has simply allowed Hamas to carry out its terrorists activities under the auspices of a legitimate body.

Instead, the same Western actors must enforce conditions they themselves set out: until Hamas explicitly meets those pre-conditions, it must not be included in any diplomatic process. It is important to recall that the Oslo Accords could not have been sealed until the PLO recognised Israel and disavowed terrorism (at least rhetorically). There is no strategic justification for lowering the induction criteria for the extremists of Hamas.

As for Fatah, it too needs to prove it is committed to a peaceful resolution of the conflict. Despite its reputation as the ‘moderate’ alternative to Hamas, Abbas’s faction has itself glorified the abduction, posting images to its official Facebook page depicting the teens as captured rats and of young Palestinians triumphantly holding up three fingers. Fatah’s own school textbooks and media routinely incite Palestinians to terrorism and portray convicted murderers as national heroes. This time, Fatah social media sites triumphantly posted photos of Israelis mourning for the three victims, erroneously referred to as “soldiers”.  Moreover, the Fatah-led Palestinian Authority continues to pay the salaries of Palestinian terrorists in prison, regardless of the brutality of their crimes.  These payments are in part funded by UK taxpayers whose aid contribution to the Palestinian Authority in light of the latter’s policy of doling out terror stipends has been a serious diplomatic bone of contention between Israel and the United Kingdom for some time.

President Abbas should be praised – as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has done – for condemning the abduction, but he and his Fatah faction must now match words with deeds. First and foremost, its unity government with Hamas must be declared null and void until and unless Hamas meets the necessary conditions for inclusion. It must redouble security cooperation with Israel against Hamas in the West Bank. It must demonstrate its good faith by ending incitement and the glorification of terrorists in its textbooks and media. Lastly, it must stop paying salaries to prisoners convicted of terrorist crimes. Twin bills circulating in committees of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives would cut Washington’s funding to the PA by nearly half-a-billion dollars for precisely the PA’s failure to meet those conditions as long as an unreformed Hamas remains a partner in it. Similarly in the UK, it should be inconceivable that our taxpayers’ money is going to support a terrorist organisation. The United Kingdom, other EU member states and all parties interested in Middle East peace should stand behind their democratic ally in the region and must send a clear signal that an unreformed terrorist organisation such as Hamas, actively engaged in a pan-Radical Islamic war of annihilation against Israel can under no circumstances be a partner to any diplomatic process.

True The Vote Files Suit Against Mississippi, State Republican Party

OXFORD, MS. — July 1, 2014: True the Vote (TTV), the nation’s leading voters’ rights and election integrity organization, today filed suit in federal court against the Mississippi Secretary of State and the State Republican Party, asking the Court to immediately order that election records be shared to inspect for illegal votes ahead of certification for the June 24 U.S. Senate Primary Runoff Election (True the Vote, et. al v. State of Mississippi, et. al. (3:14cv144-MPM-SAA)).

True the Vote and associated plaintiffs argue that the defendants failed to properly abide by federal election record maintenance and open records provisions codified in the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA). Records made partially available to the plaintiffs indicated “double-voting” from Democratic to Republican primaries — potentially diluting votes in violation of the Equal Protection Clause.

“All we are asking is that the MS State Republican Party follow the law; allow their designated county representatives to inspect the poll books and ballots, give them the review time they are permitted by law, and allow them to uphold their responsibility to MS voters,” True the Vote President Catherine Engelbrecht said. “True the Vote has been inundated with reports from voters across Mississippi who are outraged to see the integrity of this election being undermined so that politicos can get back to business as usual. Enough is enough.”

“This isn’t about personality, party, or politics. Senators come and go,” Engelbrecht continued. “What must withstand the test of time is the integrity of the process by which we elect our representatives and establish our government. No candidate or party should ever be allowed to twist election laws or subvert voters’ rights in the interest of political ambition.”

True the Vote has closely followed developments surrounding the Mississippi Republican Primary Runoff from the beginning. On June 21, TTV released figures demonstrating unusual voter turnout patterns based on historic data. On June 25, the organization formally requestedthat MS Republican Party Chairman Joe Nosef delay certification of the election and share voting records for independent review. Finding no assistance from the state party, TTV and the collected 13 plaintiffs were left no option but to pursue the matter in federal court.

True the Vote’s lawsuit consists of three counts:

Count One: Violation of NVRA’s Public Disclosure Provision. Shortly before the Republican Primary Runoff Election, True the Vote, via its volunteer base, made a valid and timely request to review voter rolls and poll books under the NVRA, but it was denied access to those records.

Count Two: Individual Plaintiffs Allege a Violation of NVRA Based on Conflict with State Laws.Plaintiffs seek a declaration that the NVRA preempts any state requirement calling for public election information to be redacted at the cost of the requestor.

Count Three: Individual Plaintiffs Allege an Equal Protection Violation. Discovering potential instances of “double-voting” between Democratic and Republican primaries are unlawful dilutions of individual votes.

True the Vote engaged legal representation with the firm of Beirne, Maynard & Parsons L.L.P. TTV’s complaint was filed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi, Oxford Division.

A copy of the complaint has been made available here.
