Four House Democrats Side With Republicans On Trump’s Iran Strikes

Four Democrats voted with Republicans to effectively greenlight President Donald Trump’s military action in Iran, breaking with the party’s House leadership.

The House voted down the War Powers Act (WPA) — introduced by Republican Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie and Democratic California Rep. Ro Khanna — 212 to 219 just one day after the upper chamber nearly voted along party lines to approve the president’s action in the Middle East. Democratic Reps. Henry Cuellar of Texas, Greg Landsman of Ohio, Jared Golden of Maine and Juan Vargas of California broke from the party to support the president.

Massie and Republican Ohio Rep. Warren Davidson were the only two Republicans to side with Democrats to support the measure.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson called  “dangerous” as it would require the administration to extract troops from the region immediately. Some members found the rapid removal could endanger troops while Iran actively targets American troops, assets, embassies, and allies across the region.

A half a dozen members, including Golden and Landsman, introduced an alternative War Powers Act to counteract the Massie-Khanna resolution. The alternative measure would give the administration 30 days to cease military action in Iran and mandates the administration regularly briefs members of Congress and relevant committees on military operations and objectives.

Davidson was hesitant about the timeline of the Iran strikes, as the administration has provided multiple different possibilities ranging from three weeks to months. Reports indicate officials in U.S. Central Command are preparing for the campaign in Iran to potentially last until September.

Talks of supplemental defense funding are spreading through Congress as some Senators on theArmed Services Committee refuse to rule out allocating additional funds to replenish the defenses that keep service members safe. Johnson said Congress would pass additional funding to support the administration “when it’s appropriate.”

EXCLUSIVE: Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett Once Rented Car With Convicted Robber — It Didn’t End Well

Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett co-rented a car in 2006 with a previously convicted robber whose car crash caused her to be sued for damages at the start of her law career, records obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation show.

Crockett and Texas resident Soweto Hoilett rented the vehicle from Budget Rent A Car System after Hoilett was convicted of two robberies and possession of a controlled substance, according to court documents obtained via public databases and records requests. Hoilett’s relationship with Crockett, who declared a run for Senate on Dec. 8, is unclear based on the documents, and the two simply noted their use for the car was “personal.” Hoilett’s car wreck then prompted Crockett to defend herself in court, marking one of her earliest cases as a licensed attorney.

Budget Rent A Car sued Crockett in 2007 for refusing to cough up money over an accident involving Hoilett, citing her rental agreement that she claimed was “invalid.” Crockett settled with the company for roughly $10,400 the following year.

The court records show how a repeat offender receiving light punishment sowed chaos in the future congresswoman’s life. In Congress, she later advocated for reducing incarceration and declining to prosecute low-level theft and other offenses people commit “to survive.” She also frames the justice system as prejudiced against black people and the poor, citing her work in the Bowie County Public Defender’s Office from 2007 to 2010.

Crockett’s office did not respond to multiple requests for comment, and an attorney who assisted her is no longer licensed in Texas.

The DCNF also reached out to an email address listed for Hoilett in public records and the attorney who represented Budget Rent A Car and did not receive responses. Hoilett could not otherwise be reached.

Hoilett pleaded guilty to robbing two people in February and September 1998, with the county dropping a third robbery case against him that year. Hoilett received probation sentences that were later revoked in favor of five years behind bars, the lowest possible sentence for his first-degree felony robbery and slightly above the two-year minimum for the other robbery offense. He was credited with time served.

Oklahoma police later charged Hoilett in June 2005 with drug possession and obstructing an officer after catching him speeding at 91 miles per hour without a valid driver’s license, according to court records. Prosecutors dropped the obstructing charge for a guilty plea on the drug charge, leading to a probation sentence, which a court later accused him of violating.

Hoilett’s attorney in the Oklahoma case told the DCNF he could not recall details.

Eight months later, Crockett rented a Hyundai Sonata with Hoilett as an additional driver in Harris County, a rental agreement shows — setting the stage for her to get wrapped up in his legal troubles.

Crockett called Budget on Nov. 6, 2006, to let them know Hoilett had taken the car to Louisiana and a friend of his ended up finding the vehicle, according to the company’s accident report. Documents from the lawsuit give conflicting dates and scant details for the accident, but Budget said the car was totaled from the damage.

Hoilett was also charged in Harris County with resisting and evading arrest in August 2006, according to police reports. Prosecutors dropped one of the cases over a plea deal, giving him 120 days in jail for a crime that could have brought up to a year.

Budget and Crockett, who became a licensed attorney in November 2006, argued in court filings over whether Crockett should have allowed Hoilett to drive and how much she owed in damages. Crockett accused Budget in court filings of trying to “obtain money by false pretenses and fraudulent representations.”

The company also blasted Crockett for missing multiple filing deadlines in the case, including by not checking her mail.

“Defendant did not intentionally miss the deadline, but instead made a miscalculation of the deadline due to a mistake regarding the Good Friday Holiday,” Crockett’s response to one motion reads.

A judge approved a $10,407.12 settlement in October 2008, forcing Crockett to pay around $4,000 more than what she initially offered, records show.

Hoilett, meanwhile, was arrested in Harris County again in April and November 2007, according to police affidavits. Authorities said he first trespassed into someone’s vehicle and then refused to return a van from Dollar Rent A Car.

The district attorney’s office scrapped the first case after claiming a lack of probable cause to detain Hoilett, while the theft case gave Hoilett seven months behind bars instead of what could have been up to two years.

Gay Furry Socialist Who Loves 9/11 Might Be The Most Batsh*t Democratic Candidate Yet

A candidate for the Democratic nomination in a competitive congressional district celebrated the assassination of Charlie Kirk and said the United States deserved the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack.

Samuel Smeltzer, an IT specialist who identifies as a honey badger and goes by the name “Elyon Badger,” has a history of violent posts on BlueSky, a left-leaning competitor to X, formerly known as Twitter, the Washington Free Beacon reported. He is running for the House of Representatives in Michigan’s Seventh Congressional District, currently represented by Republican Rep. Tom Barrett, according to the outlet.

Smeltzer, who has also praised the assassinations of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) founder Charlie Kirk and United HealthCare CEO Brian Thompson, once posted to BlueSky about being banned from X for saying the U.S. deserved the 9/11 attacks carried out by the radical Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda.

“Well that’s gone for good I think,” Smeltzer posted on BlueSky on Oct. 25, 2024, showing a screenshot of the notice he had been banned from X for saying “America deserved 9/11 I agree.”

On the day Kirk was assassinated, Smeltzer posted an image of a skeleton wearing a Nazi hat.

“I for one, celebrate the death of every Nazi,” he said.

Smeltzer also said that Thompson’s killing was helping to “cure my depression.”

He also appeared to call for using the guillotine to execute very wealthy people.

“We need to find their mansions, yachts and jets and they all need to be burned,” he posted Friday in a thread about the $1 trillion compensation package Tesla shareholders offered CEO Elon Musk. “Then we can drop the guillotine on them.”

Smeltzer also targeted United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, on multiple posts on the social media site, vowing to send them to “gulags.”

ICE facilities in Chicago and Portland, Oregon, have been the scene of multiple riots as opposition to the agency’s operations targeting illegal immigrants has intensified. Some of the rioters in Chicago called for the ICE agents to be arrested or shot in a video posted online during one of the riots.

Two people were killed during a shooting at the ICE office in Dallas on Sept. 24, with the gunman taking his own life. In Texas, there were two previous incidents where shots were fired at ICE or Border Patrol facilities since July 4, with ten people being charged with attempted murder in connection with the former incident.

A person fired at ICE agents with a pistol when ICE raided a California marijuana farm in July after obtaining a warrant, with the FBI offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s identification, arrest and conviction.

“What’s inappropriate is billionaires existing,” Smeltzer told DCNF in an email. “Elon musk lives off of government tax dollars (38 billion to date) and when users on twitter proved Elon could singlehandedly end world hunger, he decided to become the worlds first trillionaire, while his DOGE wreaked havoc on the systems that keep poor Americans alive.”

Smeltzer added that billionaires “violated the social contract” while claiming they were in “solidarity with one another.” He added that the “proletariat are waking up to that fact.”

“Brian Thompson made money by denying people healthcare, Brian Thompson is a DEATH PANELIST because when you are DENIED DEFENDED and DEPOSED you are condemned to death by a billionaire,” Smeltzer continued.

This article has been updated with a response from Smeltzer.

EXCLUSIVE: Andrew Clyde Says ‘Trump Derangement Syndrome’ Prevents Dems From Fixing D.C. Crime Crisis

Republican Georgia Rep. Andrew Clyde said Friday that “Trump Derangement Syndrome” is “so strong” among Democrats that they will continue to resist President Donald Trump’s efforts to reduce violent crime in Washington, D.C., regardless of how it impacts their voters.

Clyde told the Daily Caller News Foundation in an exclusive interview that while Trump and Republicans want to “restore law and order” to the nation’s capital, the Democratic Party has been prioritizing “cheering on” those who commit crimes. The Georgia Republican added that Democrats are “supporting criminals” while the GOP and Trump are moving to help “law-abiding citizens.”

“It goes to show you how vastly different the two sides are,” Clyde told the DCNF. “Here you have President Trump and the Republicans wanting to restore law and order, wanting to make the city safe for the American people and for the residents of D.C. and you have the Democrats, who are there cheering on the criminals. And that is baffling to me, you know, I guess either Trump Derangement Syndrome is so strong for the Democrats that anything President Trump does, whether it helps them, you know, and helps their constituency or not, they’re going to oppose [it].”

“Here, his intent is to reduce violent crime, to make the city more safe. I mean, how many people were murdered on average in a week in the city every week in the city of Washington, D.C.? Anywhere from one to three? And we had a couple of weeks there where no one was murdered, so how many lies were actually saved during those two weeks?” Clyde continued. “You know, it’s pretty evident that the Democrats here are supporting the criminals and the Republicans and the president are supporting law-abiding citizens and so I think the country really needs to see that. And I think the country will side with Republicans and the president.”

Trump has been spearheading an effort to stamp out violent crime in Washington, D.C., including moving in August to deploy National Guard troops to the nation’s capital in an effort to help reduce violent crime. Many Democrats have opposed the president’s efforts to tackle crime in the capital city, with some even claiming that the move is a “political liability” for the Republican Party.

Despite Trump’s ongoing crime crackdown facing opposition from many Democrats, some recent polling has indicated that many voters approve of his approach to handling crime.

On Wednesday, Clyde introduced the Commonsense Law Enforcement and Accountability Now in D.C. (CLEAN D.C.) Act, which would repeal the D.C. City Council’s Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Emergency Amendment Act of 2022. Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz introduced companion legislation in the Senate on Wednesday.

The D.C. Council’s 2022 law notably prohibits the use of some neck restraints by law enforcement officers and requires additional procedures related to body-worn cameras.

In 2023, Clyde and Republican New York Andrew Rep. Garbarino introduced a joint resolution of disapproval, H.J.Res. 42, to block the D.C. Council’s crime law, which he had referred to as an “anti-police measure,” the Daily Caller first reported in March 2023. Then-Sen. JD Vance introduced the companion bill in the Senate in May 2023.

Although the legislation passed both the House of Representatives and Senate with bipartisan support in 2023, former President Joe Biden vetoed the resolution in May 2023.

“Well, back in 2020, the D.C. City Council with the riots across the land, et cetera. The D.C. City Council passed an ordinance that was basically an anti-police ordinance,” Clyde explained to the DCNF. “Actually, they passed two of them. One was the revised criminal code act of D.C., which eliminated all mandatory minimum sentences for violent crime. Other than, you know, everything second degree murder and down.”

“And that would have simply increased the crime that we are already seeing in the city, and it made no sense whatsoever,” he added. “It was a radically left-wing piece of legislation, and so we led a congressional review act to take it down and to eliminate it and it was successful.”

Clyde told the DCNF that the D.C. Council’s police law is “very much an anti-police act.”

“The D.C. Police Union was very much against it [the D.C. Council’s police law] because they knew that their officers would be hurt by it,” the congressman said. “So we led a Congressional Review Act to eliminate that as well back in 2023.”

Clyde noted that the 2023 bill “passed in a bipartisan way, with 14 Democrat votes on the House side and then … in the Senate as well, with eight Democrat Senators voting for it. Then it went to President  Biden’s desk and he vetoed it.”

“And the reason he [Biden] gave was that he wanted the D.C. City Council to be able to determine their own destiny for the city of Washington, D.C. Well, there’s a problem with that. In the Constitution, Article 1, Section 8, Clause 17 says that Congress has the exclusive legislative authority over the city of Washington, D.C.,” Clyde told the DCNF. “He [Biden] actually wants the city council to be in charge of a city that is supposed to be for all Americans.”

“The city of Washington, D.C. was designed through our Constitution, not to be just a city for the residents, but it was to be a city for all of America,” the lawmaker added.

Clyde went on to say that the main goal of his CLEAN D.C. Act is to keep Washington, D.C. “safe” and ensure that the city council will “respect the job” that local law enforcement officers do.

“I’m pretty excited, actually, and I like the fact that the prior co-sponsor of that in the Senate is now our vice president, you know? So it’s pretty cool,” Clyde said. “I believe he’s gonna see a bill that he sponsored in the Senate, come to be made law by the president under which he serves now.”

“I think that’s a pretty cool aspect of it, but the entire point of the bill is to make the city of Washington, D.C. more safe,” he added. “That’s it, and for the city council to respect the job that the law enforcement officer does because it is a very difficult job.”

“And with this act you know, still in place, it shows that they don’t,” Clyde said. “It shows that the city council does not have or will not back law enforcement as they should be.”

ROOKE: Democrats Roll Out Sneaky Playbook Year After Year. Now They’ve Met Their Match As Governor Lays Out Threat

As the 2026 midterms quickly approach, Democrats and Republicans are searching for ways to increase their chances of winning control of Congress, making the addition of House seats through redistricting a top priority.

The Texas state legislature announced that it will introduce a bill to redistrict its U.S. Congressional districts, adding six House seats that would seemingly benefit Republican candidates.

Democrats across the country, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom, criticized the move, claiming that Republicans were canceling Democratic voters by gerrymandering their district map. Democrat Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett claimed that Republicans were harming minority voters with the move.

Despite criticism and threats from blue states to redistrict their congressional districts, Texas state Republicans plan to move forward with their redistricting bill. That’s when all the drama started. News spread Saturday that state Democrats had once again fled the state to avoid giving the Texas state House a quorum to vote on the bill.

This is not new from Texas Democrats. Since 2020, state Democrats have made the same move three times. On May 30, 2021, Democrats walked out of the House at midnight to break the quorum and avoid voting on Texas SB 7, which focused on election integrity and security.

In response, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called a special session to force Democrats back into the chamber. However, when the bill came up for another House floor vote, state Democrats broke quorum again by jumping on a chartered flight to Washington, D.C., on July 12, 2021. It took over a month before Democrats were forced to give Republicans a quorum in the Texas House.

Democrats are trying to do this again. On Aug. 3, at least 51 Democrats flew to Illinois to prevent the Texas House from reaching a quorum to vote on the new redistricting bill.

But this time is different. Abbott doesn’t seem willing to allow state Democrats the month-long publicity stunt before requiring them to come back to work. Instead, on Sunday, the Texas governor released a fiery statement notifying delinquent Democrats of the consequences should they refuse to attend the House vote at 3:00 p.m. Monday.

“This truancy ends now. The derelict Democrat House members must return to Texas and be in attendance when the House reconvenes at 3:00 PM on Monday, August 4, 2025. For any member who fails to do so, I will invoke Texas Attorney General Opinion No. KP-0382 to remove the missing Democrats from membership in the Texas House,” Abbott warned, adding that he has the power to “swiftly fill” their empty seats.

“In addition to abandoning their offices, these legislators may also have committed felonies. Many absentee Democrats are soliciting funds to evade the fines they will incur under House rules. Any Democrat who ‘solicits, accepts, or agrees to accept’ such funds to assist in the violation of legislative duties or for purposes of skipping a vote may have violated bribery laws. See TEX. PENAL CODE § 36.02,” Abbott stated.

The Texas governor didn’t end with threatening state Democrats with felonies and removal from office. He added that any person who funds this charade will also be subjected to felony charges and promises to use his “full extradition authority to demand the return to Texas of any potential out-of-state felons.”

There is no reported claim that Abbott received a call from the White House or U.S. House Republican leadership to end this Democrat power play immediately. Last time, it took over a month for Abbott and Texas Republicans to get their Democrat counterparts back to work.

Whatever the cause, Republicans seem to have found their backbone and have no issue using the power given to them by the voters to get important legislative work done.

EXCLUSIVE: Congressional Republicans To Unveil Bill Stripping National Education Association’s Federal Charter

Congressional Republicans will unveil a bill Wednesday aimed at revoking the federal charter of the National Education Association (NEA), the largest labor union in the United States, the Daily Caller has learned.

Republicans Rep. Mark Harris of North Carolina and Sen. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee will introduce the National Education Association Charter Repeal Act in their respective chambers, aiming to sever the union from its congressional ties, a congressional aide told the Caller. Founded in 1857, the NEA received its charter from Congress in 1906 and now represents over 3 million educators nationwide.

The NEA has a “long list of egregious violations of public trust,” including an Open Secrets report finding that 98 percent of NEA political donations went to Democratic candidates during the 2024 election cycle, Harris said in a statement obtained by the Caller.

More recently, the NEA has faced controversy for passing a resolution that “pledges to defend democracy against Trump’s embrace of fascism by using the term facism [sic] in NEA materials to correctly characterize Donald Trump’s program and actions,” the New York Post reported, citing documents obtained by conservative education expert Corey DeAngelis.

Tina Descovich, co-founder of Moms for Liberty, praised Harris’ move in a statement obtained by the Caller. “It’s incredibly sad that the nation‘s largest teachers’ union has put woke politics before America’s children. The NEA’s embrace of radical left policies and antisemitism, combined with their rejection of parental rights, has forced moms and dads across America to condemn this organization,” she said.

The NEA’s operations rely primarily on member dues, not support from the federal government, according to Influence Watch. However, the bill could sever the organization’s congressional ties and eliminate certain property tax exemptions, according to the statement obtained by the Caller.

Similar bills to revoke the NEA’s charter, including one proposed by Blackburn in 2022, have struggled to gain traction, stalling in committee or merely being introduced on the floor.

The Caller has reached out to the NEA for comment but has not received a response at the time of publication.

EXCLUSIVE: Club For Growth Releases Ad Praising GOP For ‘Big Beautiful Bill’

The Club for Growth, a conservative organization advocating for fiscally conservative policy, praised President Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans in a new digital ad following the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill.

The new ad called for congratulating House and Senate Republicans who worked to pass the bill, as well as the president.

“America’s back on top. Thank President Trump. Thank Republicans. And keep America winning.”

The ad also touches on the sheer size of the bill, dubbing it a “game changer” and confronting the naysayers: “They said it couldn’t be done. Too big. Too bold. But Trump did it.”

The video also emphasizes the benefits that the tax breaks in the bill offer to small business owners, calling it a “permanent tax relief to help small businesses thrive.

The group launched targeted ad campaigns aimed at persuading lawmakers who remained undecided on the bill, according to its website. Lawmakers included Republican Senators Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Jerry Moran of Kansas, John Curtis of Utah and Kevin Cramer of Nebraska. Democratic Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman was also targeted, as were Republican Reps. Mike Lawler and Nick Lalota of New York and Scott Perry of Pennsylvania.

The legislation passed the Senate with Murkowski voting in favor and Vice President JD Vance casting a tie-breaking vote. The legislation cleared the House on Thursday and now heads to the president’s desk. The bill seeks to avert an estimated $4.5 trillion tax hike set to take effect at the end of the year.

The legislation eliminates taxes on tips and overtime pay, funds school choice initiatives, and extends the tax cuts enacted during Trump’s first term, delivering on campaign promises made by the president.

EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Thomas Massie Reveals What Would Get Him To ‘Yes’ On Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill

Republican Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie revealed in an exclusive interview with the Daily Caller that he could vote “yes” on President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” if a “skinny” version of the legislation materializes.

Massie has said he will not support the bill in its current form because it does not cut government spending substantially enough. Massie’s opposition to the bill is one reason Trump and his political allies have threatened to primary him in the 2026 midterms. Pro-Israel lobbying group American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is also trying to primary Massie, according to a source who spoke to the Caller.

There is a version of the bill, though, Massie said he could support. In a group text with about ten other congressmen, called “Budget Hawks,” Massie said they have floated the idea of splitting the bill in two.

“I can tell you the conservatives in the house are getting antsy with every change that happens in the Senate, and there’s a concern that maybe they need to just skinny this thing down and try to do just a few things,” he asserted, adding that they may try to do “two bills instead of one.”

“The first one should be just the absolute essentials to the president’s priorities, which would be, secure the border and extend the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act,” he explained.

Massie said he could theoretically support that bill depending on its impact on the deficit.

“It would be a lot of speculation to say that’s where we’re going to end up. But if we did end up there, and there was a repeal of the Green New Deal subsidies, I could be for that, possibly — I’d have to see the total budget impact in the House,” he told the Caller.

There have been several changes to the Senate version of the bill that have raised red flags for Massie. They stripped the REINS Act Provision — something Massie personally lobbied for in the House version — which requires congressional approval for major federal regulations before they take effect. The Senate is also mulling over a longer phaseout of renewable energy tax credits and whether to reduce the income cap for State and Local Tax (SALT) deductions. Massie said that lowering the threshold would benefit blue states more than red states.

“If they make that tweak, let’s say they limit the SALT deduction to people who make less than $400,000 a year, that means that more of the benefit of that tax provision will go to blue states instead of red states, because to be under whatever the threshold is — let’s just say $400,000 a year annual income and have $40,000 of state and local taxes or property taxes — means that you’re probably in a blue state,” he explained.

“I think the ultimate bill that the Senate passes, if they can pass one, is going to have an even worse impact on the deficit than the House bill,” he said.

Massie speculated that the president’s July 4 deadline is unlikely to be met by Congress and that House Speaker Mike Johnson’s promise to force Congress to meet over the holiday is likely an empty threat meant to appease Trump. The real deadline, Massie alleged, is sometime in August.

“I think they’ll use the threat of canceling the August recess … they’ll take a week off the August recess and say we’re in session, and then they’ll give it back to us if this bill passes,” he said.

Another sticking point for Massie is that he is using a shorter window to score the bill’s impact on the deficit. While the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) typically scores bills on a ten-year timeline, Massie is only looking at the next three or four years. Trump’s plans for no tax on tips and overtime, and tax reform for seniors, for example, are set to expire after three years in the bill.

“The deficit impact is great over the next three years in the Big Bill that passed the House, and it’s only five years out when it starts to go in the other direction because they plan on having those tax cuts expire, and they plan on having that military spending expire,” he told the Caller. “But what will happen four years from now … is they’ll say, oh my gosh, that Congress four years ago and that president set up this fiscal cliff, and the impact to our military is going to be too great [if they let] the spending expire.”

“So we’ve got to use the current policy as the baseline,” he said.

Massie alleged that the House is effectively doing nothing while they wait for the Senate to deliver its version of the Big Beautiful Bill.

“The House is just sort of over here … treading water,” he asserted. “We’re just not doing much in the House. Where the speaker has the House looking like it’s busy … it’s not really that busy.”

Mike Johnson Still In Jeopardy As Some House Republicans Remain Unconvinced After Trump Endorsement

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson may not be in the clear yet despite getting a reelection endorsement from Donald Trump, with several House Republicans saying they still haven’t decided if they’ll support him.

Since Johnson mishandled a government shutdown fight two weeks ago, he’s had to gain back the trust of several members of his own party. Johnson will have a 219-215 majority for the Speaker’s election, meaning he can only lose one vote to keep his job. While he has the support of all House Republican leadership, there are still some Republican members who say Johnson will need to do more to earn their votes.

After Trump’s endorsement of Johnson Monday morning, the Daily Caller reached out to nearly a dozen House Republicans who had previously been undecided on Johnson’s future.

Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs’ office told the Caller that he is “not committing yet.” Texas Rep. Michael Cloud’s office said he had no comment at this time, and Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert’s office gave the same answer.

Meanwhile, Indiana Rep. Victoria Spartz issued a statement, saying although Trump’s endorsement is important, she still needs “assurances” that Johnson will not “sell us out to the swamp.”

“President Trump will be able to save America only if we have a speaker with courage, vision and a plan — also public commitment to the American people how he will help deliver President Trump’s agenda to drain the swamp,” Spartz added.

Spartz has claimed Johnson often doesn’t even talk to Republicans during legislative negotiations and has questioned his leadership. She recently made headlines for saying she will not participate in the House Republican Conference or be a part of its committees.

Tennessee Rep. Tim Burchett, Missouri Rep. Eric Burlison, Arizona Rep. Eli Crane, Tennessee Rep. Andy Ogles, Florida Rep. Greg Steube, Georgia Rep. Andrew Clyde and Pennsylvania Rep. Scott Perry are among the other Republicans still on the fence about Johnson.

Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie publicly said Dec. 18 that he would oppose Johnson’s bid to remain Speaker and would vote for another candidate. He doubled down on the decision even after Trump’s endorsement.

If just one more House Republican joins Massie and votes against Johnson, he will not get the gavel.

House Passes Bill That Forces Chinese Parent Company To Sell TikTok

The House of Representatives passed legislation on Wednesday that would force Chinese company ByteDance to sell TikTok in order for the social media app to be allowed to operate in the U.S.

The Protecting Americans From Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act advanced from the House Energy and Commerce Committee by a unanimous vote on March 7. The legislation, which would allow the Beijing-based company roughly five months to sell TikTok, passed with a bipartisan 352 to 65 floor vote, sending the bill to the Senate.

President Joe Biden has signaled he would sign the legislation if it clears the upper chamber.

Critics of the social media app warn of the potential national security threats of its association with the Chinese Communist Party and what they view to be harmful effects on American youth. Others argue that banning the social media app is a violation of First Amendment rights and free enterprise.

TikTok has been critical of the legislation, which it called “an outright ban” in an X statement on March 5. The social media app encouraged its children and teenaged users to call congressional offices and complain about the bill.

“This legislation will trample the First Amendment rights of 170 million Americans and deprive 5 million small businesses of a platform they rely on to grow and create jobs,” TikTok wrote.

Former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, appeared to voice opposition to the legislation despite previously attempting to ban the app. Trump’s 2020 ban faced legal challenges, and was eventually repealed by the Biden administration in 2021.

“If you get rid of TikTok, Facebook and Zuckerschmuck will double their business,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I don’t want Facebook, who cheated in the last Election, doing better. They are a true Enemy of the People!”

Wealthy businessman Kevin O’Leary has expressed interest in purchasing the app if the legislation goes into effect.“It’s not going to get banned because I’m going to buy it,” the Shark Tank co-star told Fox News on Friday. “Somebody’s going to buy it. It won’t be Meta and it won’t be Google because a regulator will stop that. A syndicate will be formed. I would like to be involved, obviously.”

Federal Court Rules Major Biden Spending Bill Was Passed Unconstitutionally

A federal judge ruled Tuesday that a $1.7 trillion spending bill was unconstitutionally passed in December 2022 due to the lack of a quorum, blocking enforcement of a law about pregnant women in the workplace.

United States District Judge James Wesley Hendrix of the Northern District of Texas said that the House of Representatives improperly passed the spending package because a quorum of members was not physically present. The then-Democrat-controlled body allowed proxy voting for the measure, which 215 Democrats and nine Republicans supported.

“Although the Court finds that the passage of the Consolidated Appropriations Act violated the Constitution, Texas does not seek an injunction of—and the Court does not enjoin—the entire Act,” Hendrix wrote in the 120-page opinion. “Rather, the Court enjoins only the application of the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act against Texas. The relief granted here is limited to abating the injury that Texas has proven will occur.”

“Based on the Quorum Clause’s text, original public meaning, and historical practice, the Court concludes that the Quorum Clause bars the creation of a quorum by including non-present members participating by proxy,” Hendrix added. “Supreme Court precedent has long held that the Quorum Clause requires presence, and the Clause’s text distinguishes those absent members from the quorum and provides a mechanism for obtaining a physical quorum by compelling absent members to attend. This power to compel attendance makes little sense divorced from physical presence.”

Paxton sued President Joe Biden in February 2023 for signing the measure, arguing in court documents that congressional power to force absent members to attend “would make little sense if the Constitution did not require physical attendance.”

“Congress acted egregiously by passing the largest spending bill in U.S. history with fewer than half the members of the House bothering to do their jobs, show up, and vote in person,” Paxton said in a Tuesday afternoon release. “Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi abused proxy voting under the pretext of COVID-19 to pass this law, then Biden signed it, knowing they violated the Constitution. This was a stunning violation of the rule of law. I am relieved the Court upheld the Constitution.”

The Supreme Court ruled against Republican efforts to challenge the proxy voting rule put in place during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic in January 2022.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.

House Passes H.R. 8126 the ‘Israel Aid Bill’ Funded by IRS Cuts

The House of Representatives passed a bill on Thursday that would send military aid to Israel during its conflict with Hamas, which will be funded by cuts to funding for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

The Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024 would provide funds to the Department of Defense to replace equipment provided to Israel as military aid, fund research for new air defense systems that are being developed by Israel, such as the Iron Beam aerial laser program, and fund the Department of State’s programs to evacuate U.S. citizens from the region as well as protect U.S. diplomatic missions under new threats due to the conflict. The bill was passed by a vote of 226 yeas to 196 nays, with most Democrats voting against the bill.

“House Republicans are bringing forward a bill to ensure Israel has what it needs to defend itself as it fights to eliminate the threat from Hamas,” wrote House Majority Steve Scalise in an email to the Daily Caller News Foundation ahead of the vote. “Israel has every right to defend itself against such heinous actions, and we must stand with them in their fight against our shared enemies for self-determination, democracy, and freedom.”

The bill was introduced by Republican Rep. Kay Granger of Texas, the chair of the House Appropriations Committee, along with 100 other Republican co-sponsors. It has been strongly opposed by Senate Democrats, with Senate President Pro Tempore Patty Murray tweeting that “[t]he House GOP’s bill is dead on arrival” in the upper chamber, and the Biden administration stating that President Joe Biden would veto the bill if presented to him.

Biden had previously proposed a supplemental appropriations bill worth over $100 billion to fund aid not only to Israel but also to Ukraine during its war against Russia as well as provide funds for border security and immigration processing at the U.S. border with Mexico. That request was widely criticized by House Republicans, who indicated that the proposal would not receive support in their chamber, where they hold a majority.

A nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) review of the bill’s budgetary effects estimated that it would increase the fiscal deficit by nearly $12.5 billion over ten years until 2033. The CBO noted that funds cut from the IRS are intended to support enforcement actions against delinquent taxpayers, which “would result in fewer enforcement actions over the next decade and in a reduction in revenue collections,” according to the office’s report to Congress.

“Speaker Johnson and House Republicans released a totally unserious and woefully inadequate package that omitted aid to Ukraine, omitted humanitarian assistance to Gaza, had no funding for the Indo-Pacific, and made funding for Israel conditional on hard-right, never-going-to-pass proposals. What a joke,” said Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday.

National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Will Reinart criticized Democrats in a statement to the DCNF for opposing the bill “as terrorists continue their barbaric attacks.”

Ahead of the bill’s consideration by the House, several House Republicans indicated to the DCNF that they would not have voted for a bill providing military aid unless it was offset by corresponding spending cuts.

“We are in the worst fiscal crisis our country has ever faced,” said Republican Rep. Bob Good of Virginia to the DCNF. “We ought to require offsets, cuts to … the IRS expansion in order to fund [the bill]. We shouldn’t be borrowing from China, borrowing from our kids’ and grandkids’ future to fund the Israeli funding. Even though it’s good policy, we literally don’t have the money.”

“We need to have the offsets,” Good said when pressed on whether he’d support a bill to aid Israel without offsetting cuts. This point was echoed by Republican Rep. Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus.

“Funding for many of those things needs to be offset because we are running trillion-dollar deficits at this point,” Perry told the DCNF. “Since the president refuses to be the adult in the room … that’s going to be the House of Representatives,” he added.

“I do not believe we should write another blank check to anyone, including ourselves, we must pay for it. And the American people must see that it’s going to cause something if we’re going to give another $14 billion to Israel,” said Republican Rep. Chip Roy of Texas in comments shared with the DCNF. “If you see me in the end having to vote against Israel funding, just make sure you heard it here first, right? I support Israel. But I am not going to continue to go down this road where we bankrupt our country.”

Schumer and the Israeli Mission to the United States did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

U.S. House of Representatives Passes Resolution Condemning Hamas For ‘Unprovoked War On Israel’

The House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a resolution in support of Israel on Wednesday following terrorist attacks on the country by Hamas that began on Oct. 7.

House Resolution 771, titled “Standing with Israel as it defends itself against the barbaric war launched by Hamas and other terrorists,” condemns Hamas for beginning an “unprovoked war on Israel” and accuses them of “slaughtering Israelis and abducting hostages in towns in southern Israel, including children and the elderly.” After the House elected Republican Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana’s 4th District as its speaker following a three-week deadlock over the position, the resolution was quickly brought to the floor under a motion to suspend the rules, which required a two-thirds majority to approve.

“Resolved, That the House of Representatives — (1) stands with Israel as it defends itself against the barbaric war launched by Hamas and other terrorists; (2) reaffirms Israel’s right to self-defense; (3) condemns Hamas’ brutal war against Israel; (4) calls on all countries to unequivocally condemn Hamas’ brutal war against Israel,” the resolution’s text says. An overwhelming majority of 412 members voted in favor of the resolution, while ten voted against it, with six voting present.

The bipartisan resolution was introduced by Republican Rep. Mike McCaul of Texas’ 10th District, who also serves as chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Members applauded the passage of the resolution after the vote count was announced by the chair, the Daily Caller News Foundation observed from the galleries of the House.

“This was one of the darkest moments in the history of the state of Israel,” McCaul said during a debate on the House floor about the resolution, the DCNF observed. “[Hamas] must be confronted with zero equivocation … [this resolution] condemns Hamas in the strongest possible terms and reaffirms America’s support for the State of Israel.”

Those who opposed the resolution included Democratic Reps. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Cori Bush of Missouri and Jamaal Bowman of New York — some of whom have been criticized by Democrats for their apparent support for Gaza and criticism of Israel’s response to the attacks. One Republican, Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, voted against the resolution.

“Winning a war while losing the peace likely portends future wars. Regrettably, the resolution at hand does not mention a two-state solution in tandem with the necessity to provide aid to the Palestinians, yet both are part and parcel to any hope for lasting peace,” wrote Democratic Rep. Al Green of Texas on his website, explaining why he voted against the resolution.

Johnson, the new speaker, also cast a vote in favor of the motion — an unusual measure given that, under common practice, the speaker does not normally vote on matters before the House except in extraordinary circumstances.

The Israeli Mission to the United States did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Matt Gaetz Blasts Kevin McCarthy For Paving Dems’ ‘Yellow Brick Road,’ Reveals His ‘Number Two’ Choice For Speaker

Republican Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz blasted House Speaker Kevin McCarthy while making remarks to the press on Monday.

Gaetz filed a motion to vacate McCarthy from his house leadership position on Monday. The move could lead to the house voting on whether McCarthy retains his speakership role. Gaetz has been critical of McCarthy’s deal with the Biden White House to raise the debt limit. He also claims that McCarthy has failed to reduce government spending levels.

A reporter suggested to Gaetz that McCarthy could simply run for the speakership again if his attempt to remove him is successful. That scenario could result in no one having the necessary votes. Gaetz brushed off this potentiality, pointing out that McCarthy needed 15 rounds of votes to become the speaker, and saying he should “take a hint” that he is no longer wanted in the role.

Another reporter asked Gaetz who his ideal replacement for McCarthy would be.

“Look, our number two is Steve Scalise. I think very highly of Steve Scalise. I would vote for Steve Scalise,” Gaetz said.

Gaetz outlined McCarthy’s supposed failures as speaker, including his inability to pass appropriations bills in an efficient manner. He said that it took a “political gun to the speaker’s head” to get appropriations bills passed.

“We’d only passed one of our appropriations bills, the veterans bill,” Gaetz said after slamming the apparent lack of work put in by lawmakers.

“The American people are tired of Washington, D.C., not having a budget, running $2 trillion annual deficits, sitting atop a $33 trillion debt,” Gaetz added.

Another reporter asked him if it is hypocritical to criticize McCarthy for working with Democrats when he will need Democratic votes to oust the speaker. Gaetz stated that the “yellow brick road of working with Democrats has been paved, constructed, engineered, and architected by Kevin McCarthy.”

“Look no further than the debt limit deal, a deal he passed with Democrats. Look no further than the last continuing resolution, which he passed with Democrats. And by the way, if he’s able to stay in power, it will be him working for the Democrats, continuing to do their bidding. So this is a revealing exercise, and I think it will show the country who’s really in charge,” Gaetz said.

McCarthy brushed off Gaetz’s announcement of his attempt to remove him from the speakership, saying that the Florida representative has tried similar stunts before.

“That’s nothing new. … He’s tried to do that from the moment I ran for office. … Yes, I’ll survive. You know, this is personal with Matt,” McCarthy said on ABC News’ “This Week.”

Here Are The Six Republicans Who Voted ‘Present’ For Adam Schiff’s Censure

Six Republicans voted “present” instead of voting for the censure of Democratic California Rep. Adam Schiff, breaking with the rest of their party.

Republican Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna introduced the resolution that would remove Schiff from the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Daily Caller first obtained a copy of the first resolution, which cites the Durham Report as the reason the congresswoman believes Schiff should no longer serve in Congress. (RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Anna Paulina Luna Introduces Resolution To Remove Adam Schiff From The House)

Here are the six Republicans:

  • Rep. David Joyce (R-OH)
  • Rep. Michael Guest (R-MS)
  • Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY)
  • Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO)
  • Rep. John Rutherford (R-FL)
  • Rep. Michelle Fischbach (R-MN)

“Adam Schiff lied to the American people. He used his position on House Intelligence to push a lie that cost American taxpayers millions of dollars and abused the trust placed in him as Chairman. He is a dishonor to the House of Representatives,” Paulina Luna said in a statement.

“The Durham Report makes clear that the Russian Collusion was a lie from day one and Schiff knowingly used his position in an attempt to divide our country,” she added.

As Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy blocked Adam Schiff from sitting on the House Intelligence Committee. Republican Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz also introduced legislation that would call on the House to vote on if Schiff should be banned from accessing and viewing any and all classified information.
