Networks Ignore ANOTHER GOP Councilmember Killed This Week In New Jersey

Enemy of the people.

If this happened to two Democrat council members, the cable and news broadcast networks would be bombarding us with MAGA hate, insurrection and calls for public hangings.

Networks Yawn at ANOTHER GOP Councilmember Killed in New Jersey

By: Kevin Tober, Newsbusters, February 10, 2023:

On Thursday, Fox News reported that a second Republican council member from New Jersey was assassinated in a little over a week. The first was councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour from Sayreville, New Jersey who was brutally shot and killed outside her townhome on February 1. Over a week later, Republican Milord councilman Russell Heller was killed outside his workplace. For all the leftist media’s crowing about “attacks on democracy,” you would think the three evening networks newscasts would be all over this story. Unfortunately, all three ignored the story during their Thursday broadcasts.

Instead of reporting on the second assassination of a Republican elected official, the three networks decided to report on stories like local weather forecasts (ABC), a segment on the future of robots (CBS), and a report on potential racial discrimination in home appraisals (NBC).

Special Report anchor Bret Baier opened by expressing shock at the violence that has been occurring against Republican elected officials in New Jersey over the past week: “For the second time in a week, a New Jersey council member has been gunned down–killed. Yesterday Republican Russell Heller was killed outside his workplace. Last week Republican Eunice Dwumfour was killed outside her home.”

Baier then handed it off to correspondent Alexis McAdams who reported that “in Milford New Jersey, this councilman Russell Heller was shot and killed in a different case.”

“Heller was gunned down yesterday morning in the parking lot of this New Jersey power company where he had a full-time job as a supervisor. Investigators say that gunman was a former employee who drove off and later killed himself,” she added.

If this happened to two Democrat council members, the broadcast networks would not be ignoring this story.

FBI WEAPONIZATION HEARINGS: FBI Special Agent, “There Are ‘Two FBIs’, Bureau Became ‘Politically Weaponized’ Top Down

“In my entire time in Congress, I have never seen anything like this, dozens and dozens of whistleblowers, FBI agents, coming to us talking about what’s going on.” — Congressman Jim Jordan on DOJ weaponization.

Former FBI special agent Nicole Parker delivered an emotional testimony before the House Subcommittee on Weaponization during which she explained that she had resigned due to the bureau having become “weaponized.”

House Republicans to probe politicization of DOJ and FBI

A former FBI special agent on Thursday delivered an emotional testimony before the House Subcommittee on Weaponization, telling lawmakers that she had resigned from the bureau after it had become “politically weaponized.”

Nicole Parker, a former FBI special agent who served in the bureau from 2011-22, reflected on her career, saying that she had felt she had been making an “impactful difference.”

“Every day, I woke up and embraced being an FBI special agent. Until things changed,” she said, adding that the FBI’s “trajectory transformed.”

“On paper, the bureau’s mission remained the same, but its priorities and governing principles shifted dramatically,” Parker said. “The FBI became politically weaponized, starting from the top in Washington and trickling down to the field offices.”

Nicole Parker was a special agent with the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, in the Bureau’s Miami Field Office from 2011-22.

“Although FBI employees have their first amendment rights, they are not at the liberty to allow their personal political views or preferences to determine their course of action or inaction in any investigation,” Parker explained. “Lady Justice must remain blind — those that do not uphold these responsibilities cause a negative ripple effect through the agency in the field.”

She added: “It’s as if there became two FBIs.”

Parker said that the “two FBIs” were headquarters, based in Washington, D.C., and the field offices, where “the standard rank” work to “serve the country, protect American citizens, and fight crime.”

“We have no interest in politics,” she testified.

Parker said that now, there has been a “loss of trust” of the FBI by many Americans, causing “low morale” among FBI employees.

“For many, becoming a special agent was their calling in life, but now, it is merely a dangerous, high-risk job with minimal contentment,” Parker said.

“For me, distancing myself from egregious mistakes, immoral behavior, politically charged actions taken by a small but destructive few FBI employees became exhausting,” Parker said, adding that she “no longer felt” that she was “the type of agent the FBI valued.”

Parker resigned from the bureau less than four months ago, “with an exemplary and spotless record.”

“I love the FBI I joined,” she said. “I have treasured memories working alongside remarkable people. I’m proud to have served with honor as a special agent.”

“While I sincerely pray for the FBI’s future success, the FBI’s troubles of late are bigger than anything I could change,” she added.

“I am not here today to show favor to any political party — I am here to stand for the truth based on my experience at the FBI,” she continued. “In all humility, I hope to make an impact in creating a stronger agency, which is what Americans deserve.”

The FBI has previously stated that it does not punish employees for expressing their views.

“The FBI does not target or take adverse action against employees for exercising their First Amendment rights or for their political views; to allege otherwise is false and misleading,” an FBI spokesperson told Fox News last year. “The FBI is required to follow established policies and procedures, to include a thorough investigation, when suspending or revoking a security clearance.”

Parker’s testimony comes during the first hearing of the House Subcommittee on Weaponization, chaired and created by Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio.

The panel is expected to investigate not only how the executive branch has gathered information on citizens but also how it has worked with other bodies, including private-sector companies, to “facilitate action against American citizens.”

It will investigate the censorship of the Hunter Biden laptop story, the DOJ and FBI’s alleged targeting of parents at school board meetings, the origins of the Trump-Russia probe and more.

The resolution creating the subcommittee states that the panel will investigate how the executive branch agencies “collect, compile, analyze, use, or disseminate information about citizens of the United States, including any unconstitutional, illegal, or unethical activities committed against citizens of the United States.”

Wanted: A Few Good Statesmen and Stateswomen

History is replete with bad decisions and wasted opportunities. With perfect hindsight we can look back at all the wars that could and should have been averted by good statesmanship. But that would be “Presentism,” meaning to judge past actions based on what we know now, rather than based on what the actors knew back then. It is Presentism that unfairly fuels the current counterculture movement.

Looking forward the presidential election of 2024, what the Republicans should do is this: 1. All the leading candidates should hold a meeting, decide who among them has the best chance of winning, and all work together to elect their chosen candidate. That would be an act of statesmanship. 2. Also, the GOP must learn how to use mail-in ballots as well as the Democrats. 3. The GOP must finish its transition from Country Club/Hedge Fund Elitism to Working-class Popularism.

Those of the Greatest Generation might hope that the Democratic Party would return to being the party of Harry Truman. But that is just as unlikely as the Republican Establishment acting on the three steps outlined above.

Although the crystal ball is very cloudy this early in the presidential race, it is a good bet the GOP will field a high number of candidates. Some of them just raising money for personal use or to trade campaign cash as favors to other candidates playing the same fund-raising game. A few will be in the race to build future name recognition. Ergo: a plethora of candidates might result in another Ross Perot-type three-way race that elects the Democrat candidate who is very likely to be Michelle Obama, standing in for Barack Obama.

Mrs. Obama just published a campaign-style autobiography and is making the rounds of the MSM talk shows promoting her book and herself as the champion of middle-aged, pro-choice women. She knows her demographics. She even has a podcast. By side-stepping what she thinks about President Biden*, Michelle lends credence to the idea that Biden*/Harris will not be on the Democrat’s next presidential ticket.

Meanwhile, the reelection of a four-time election loser to continue to lead the Republican National Committee (RNC) tells us the old pro-Deep State Guard does not understand the GOP rank-and-file is increasingly made up of skilled and unskilled members of the working class.
Amazingly, the GOP is becoming like the party of Harry Truman while the Democratic Party has become the party of Alinsky, Marx, Lenin, and Goebbels complete with mastery of the FBI, the intel community, the MSM, and, except for Elon Musk’s Twitter, all of Social Media. We are being eye-witnesses to an historic political party switcheroo, albeit the Bush-era GOP leadership refuses to acknowledge a seismic shift of America’s workers from Fabian Socialism to the thinking of Milton Friedman and Ronald Reagan.

While former President Donald J. Trump has thrown his golf cap in the ring and others are showing signs of doing so as well, we really do not know which hats will remain in the ring and which additional hats might be thrown and which will be withdrawn. All candidates must answer for themselves the question: If elected, is this really what I want to do with the rest of my life and that of my family? Stay tuned.

Austin: Spy Balloon Forced Us to ‘Button Down’ Nuclear Bases

In an interview Wednesday with CBS News, woke Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin stated that in response to the Chinese spy balloon that flew over the country last week, the United States ensured that its nuclear bases “were buttoned down” and that “movement was limited and communications were limited so that we didn’t expose any capability unnecessarily.”

Asked what he was concerned that the balloon might be looking for, Austin answered, “Well, I — certainly, all of our strategic assets, we made sure that we were buttoned down and movement was limited and communications were limited so that we didn’t expose any capability unnecessarily.”

Austin confirmed that by “strategic assets,” he meant the nuclear force.

He was then asked, “So, the nuclear bases across this country from Montana to Whiteman in Missouri, all across, they were all buttoned up?”

Austin responded, “They were.”

Well, that’s comforting. Good thing everything is buttoned up while we allowed a Chinese spy balloon to hover across the U.S. for five days unobstructed.

Lloyd Austin

Austin’s Priorities As Defense Secretary

Austin came into office as Defense Secretary defining the coronavirus pandemic as America’s greatest national security challenge, and declaring climate change to be an “existential threat” that he intended to meet by “electrifying our own [military] vehicle fleets.” “Climate change is making the world more unsafe and we need to act,” Austin asserted in April 2021. “Today,” he added, “no nation can find lasting security without addressing the climate crisis. We face all kinds of threats in our line of work, but few of them truly deserve to be called existential. The climate crisis does.”

In early 2021 as well, Austin claimed that yet another of his top priorities as Defense Secretary would be to address the allegedly pervasive problem of sexual assault in the U.S. military, saying: “Sexual assault is a problem that plagues us. It is a readiness issue. It is a leadership issue. We’re going to lead real change for real results.”

Biden Appointed Member Of Alleged Chinese Communist Front Group To Represent U.S. Business In Asia

  • Dominic Ng, CEO of East West Bank, whom President Joe Biden appointed to represent the U.S. at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, is a current and former member of two alleged front groups serving a “Chinese intelligence service,” a Daily Caller News Foundation investigation found.
  • Ng served as “executive director” of the China Overseas Exchange Association until 2017 and still serves in that capacity at the related China Overseas Friendship Association, according to DCNF translations of those groups’ archived rosters.
  • “The FBI should immediately launch an investigation into Mr. Ng,” Texas Republican Rep. Lance Gooden told the DCNF.

President Joe Biden appointed an alleged Chinese Communist Party (CCP) front group member to represent U.S. business interests in Asia, a Daily Caller News Foundation investigation found.

In April 2022, Biden appointed Dominic Ng, CEO of East West Bank, to a one-year position representing the U.S. on the Business Advisory Council of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), after Ng donated $100,000 to the Biden Victory Fund and $35,500 to the Democratic National Committee in 2020, Federal Election Commission records show. However, Ng’s donations to Biden’s campaign and his current appointment overlap with his membership in an organization which several China experts have identified as a front group for a Chinese government intelligence agency, according to DCNF translations of archived membership records.

Likewise, Ng was also previously a member of another alleged front group, the DCNF found.

“President Biden ignored Dominic Ng’s extensive ties to the CCP and Chinese intelligence groups, happily took his campaign donations, and in return appointed a possible Chinese spy to a senior government position,” Texas Republican Rep. Lance Gooden told the DCNF.

Ng, APEC and East West Bank did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

Ng served as “executive director” at the China Overseas Exchange Association (COEA) between 2013 and 2017, before beginning a five-year position with the same title at the related China Overseas Friendship Association (COFA) in 2019, where he apparently remains a member, according to a DCNF translation of archived membership records.

Both COEA and COFA, which merged in 2019, are considered fronts groups for the United Front Work Department (UFWD), a CCP agency responsible for both influence and intelligence operations, according to reports from the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission (USCC). Multiple experts who spoke to the DCNF agreed that both COEA and COFA are UFWD fronts.

“A person who holds a position in COFA or COEA, including provincial branches, and works in any U.S. government agency should not be allowed access to any sensitive information, and, in fact, will have divided loyalties at best,” Clive Hamilton, author of “Hidden Hand: Exposing How the Chinese Communist Party Is Reshaping The World,” told the DCNF.

Members of COFA and COEA are “expected to carry out influence work overseas to advance the objectives of the Party,” Hamilton said.

The DCNF located Ng’s Chinese name, Wu Jianmin, on East West Bank’s website, and matched it with archived records to confirm Ng’s former and current membership within the two alleged Chinese intelligence front groups.

Despite his ties to alleged CCP front groups, Ng will serve a prominent role in U.S.-Asia trade relations.

As chair of APEC’s Business Advisory Council, Ng is tasked with providing “recommendations to APEC leaders reflecting the perspectives of key APEC stakeholders,” according to the State Department. APEC is China’s most valuable trade forum after the World Trade Organization, with a reported 70% of all Chinese trade occurring with other APEC members, according to China Briefing, an online publication concerning business in China.

According to the State Department, Mr. Ng serves on the governing boards of Mattel, Inc., the University of Southern California, and the Academy of Motion Pictures, is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a former board member of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Los Angeles Branch.

Thomas Duesterberg, senior fellow at Hudson Institute, told the DCNF that it was “not at all surprising” that the CCP might hypothetically seek to insert influence operatives into APEC, an international forum whose stated mission is “championing free and open trade and investment” for the sake of “sustainable economic growth and prosperity” in the Asia-Pacific, according to its website.

“The increasing level of competition with the United States is causing [China] to want to consolidate their position wherever they can, but especially in their neighborhood,” said Duesterberg, who formerly served as assistant secretary for international economic policy at the Department of Commerce and attended the first two meetings of APEC.

“Their modus operandi is to use all means possible to become dominant, including lots of means that we normally don’t approve of,” he added.

Underscoring the forum’s apparent importance to China, Biden and General Secretary Xi Jinping may meet during APEC’s November 2023 summit in San Francisco, according to statements made by Michael Swaine, East Asia program director at the Quincy Institute, on C-SPAN Feb. 5.

However, some of the organizations at which Ng has served as “executive director” are closely affiliated with Chinese intelligence operations, experts told the DCNF.

“Both [COEA and COFA] are elements of the UFWD,” Nicholas Eftimiades, a former CIA officer and author of “Chinese Intelligence Operations,” told the DCNF.

In fact, COFA’s own website reveals the organization was founded by the UFWD in 1997. USCC identified the organization as “the UFWD China Overseas Friendship Association” in 2018.

Eftimiades characterized COEA as a “subset” of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office (OCAO), a CCP department which “became a bureau of the UFWD in 2018.”

“Persons from the UFWD have repeatedly been caught conducting espionage and covert influence activities abroad,” Eftimiades told the DCNF. “Employment of individuals from this organization is certainly higher up on the risk management scale.”

A State Department spokesperson referred the DCNF to the White House, which did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

In addition to his positions at alleged UFWD fronts, Ng also has a history of meeting with Chinese government personnel allegedly tied to the UFWD, the DCNF determined. In one instance, COEA’s leadership invited Ng to meet with them in Beijing shortly after he’d joined COEA in 2013, according to Chinese government records.

On Nov. 1, 2013, Ng met in Beijing with Qiu Yuanping, COEA’s “executive vice chairman,” as well as Han Qide, COEA’s “chairman,” a DCNF translation of Chinese government records reveals.

Beyond just their COEA leadership positions, both Qiu and Han are also members of the CCP and Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a Chinese government agency which is the “highest-ranking entity overseeing the United Front system,” according to the USCC.

Ng has since met multiple times with alleged UFWD leaders, Chinese government records reveal, including another Beijing meeting with COEA’s leadership, which occurred after Ng attended the CPPCC’s national committee in March 2015.

Ng even met with alleged UFWD leaders in the U.S., the DCNF discovered. During one such meeting in February 2016, Ng took COEA’s “executive vice chairman,” Qiu, around on a tour of East West Bank in Los Angeles, according to Chinese government records.

After touring East West Bank, Qiu reportedly told Ng and several others present at the time that “Chinese-American elected officials” could connect the U.S. and China and, thus, she was “full of anticipation” because they might “play an active role” in “Congress” or within “think tanks,” a DCNF translation of Chinese government records found.

“The FBI should immediately launch an investigation into Mr. Ng,” Gooden said. “And if he is found to be an accomplice in Chinese espionage operations, he should rot in prison for his betrayal of the United States.”

The FBI told the DCNF that they had no comment.

Wisconsin Republican Rep. Mike Gallagher, who was recently appointed chairman of the House China Select Committee, told the DCNF that the U.S. needs to do more to combat CCP influence operations.

“Too many former U.S. government officials and public servants are willing to shop out their connections and expertise to foreign adversaries, helping Xi Jinping wield his so-called ‘magic weapon’ of United Front work,” Gallagher said. “If you have the privilege of serving the American people at any level of government, you should, at a minimum, commit to serve the interests of the American people alone.”

Hostile Takeover of Project Veritas by DeSantis-Aligned Operatives?

Below makes sense to me. The Deep State and NeverTrumper establishment Republicans don’t like having their corruption revealed by James O’Keefe so they’re inventing things ala Saul Alinsky to get rid of him.  Informed commentators like Steve Bannon and Charlie Kirk know better.

Hostile Takeover of Project Veritas Seeking to Remove James O’Keefe – DeSantis Aligned Operatives Spearheading Effort for Removal

February 9, 2023 | Sundance

Word first broke on the Twitter last night about a board coup inside the Project Veritas organization led by Matt Tyrmand, a rabid advocate for Ron DeSantis and part of the 2024 influence operation. [TWITTER Source]

According to the leaked information, Matt Tyrmand organized a six-hour confrontation session against Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe, culminating in a decision to put O’Keefe on leave.

“The board held a six-and-a-half-hour struggle session vs James where they subjected him to constant derision and insults. At the insistence of Tyrmand, O’Hara, and Hinckley; “about ten employees aired their grievances about James, which essentially boiled down to him being a tough boss to work for. At the end of this six-hour struggle session, Tyrmand and fellow board member John Garvey put him on leave and stripped him of all authority.” (source)

New York Mag is essentially confirming the original sourcing [SEE HERE].

James O’Keefe, the founder and chairman of Project Veritas, has taken a paid leave from the conservative nonprofit media organization as its board considers whether to remove him from his leadership position, according to current and former employees of the organization.

An internal message sent to Project Veritas employees by the organization’s executive director, Daniel Strack, said that O’Keefe would be taking “a few weeks of well-deserved PTO.” An image of the message was shared by a source familiar with the organization’s internal operations, and its authenticity was confirmed by a current employee. When reached for comment on his personal cell phone, O’Keefe said nothing in response and did not respond to follow-up calls and text messages. (source)

Considering the recent explosive undercover work against Pfizer, it is not out of the question, heck, it might be likely – that the Big Republican Club is at work against O’Keefe.

Remember, big corporate donors like the Koch Donor Trust are attached to Project Veritas and simultaneously attached to Ron DeSantis. This could be where DeSantis operative Matt Tyrmand connects the issues between Big donors (Koch), Big Pharma (Pfizer) and Big Club (DeSantis) motives.

However, Occam’s Razor could also apply in that an untrustworthy, backstabbing dirtbag and ankle biter like Matt Tyrmand just happens to find a natural ideological alignment with Team DeSantis.

Money at this scale, with the political overlay and stakes high, is a powerfully corrupting combination. However, if the board at Project Veritas thinks they can oust James O’Keefe and still remain viable, they are sadly mistaken. There is no Project Veritas without James O’Keefe.

Not One Student Was Proficient In Math In 23 Baltimore Schools: REPORT

In 23 Baltimore City Schools, zero students tested proficient in math in 2022, according to a report by Project Baltimore.

Through an analysis of 150 Baltimore City Schools, 23 of them, including 10 high schools, eight elementary schools, three high schools and two middle schools, no students met math grade-level expectations, according to a report by Project Baltimore. Approximately 2,000 students took the state administered math exams that tested proficiency levels.

“It just sounds like these schools, now, have turned into essentially babysitters with no accountability,”  Jovani Patterson, a Baltimore resident who sued the district for not properly educating its students, told Fox 45 News. “This is the future of our city. We’ve got to change this.”

An additional 20 schools in the district had no more than two students proficient in math, Project Baltimore reported. Another three schools in the district, which are for incarcerated students and students with disabilities, had no students that met grade-level expectations.

Approximately 7% of third through eighth graders at Baltimore City School met grade level expectations in Math in 2022, according to the Maryland State Department of Education.

The report on Baltimore City Schools comes as the nation suffers historic learning loss; since 2020, the nation’s reading scores dropped to fall in line with numbers from 1990, while math scores fell for the first time from. Every state has seen a decline in its students’ math scores since 2019.

To combat the lack of proficiency in its students, the school district has implemented professional development for teachers and summer learning sessions, Fox 45 News reported.

“We’re confident these instructional strategies will help us regain the momentum and progress we experienced before the pandemic,” the district told Fox 45 News.

Baltimore City Schools did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

Tulsi Gabbard Rips Mitt Romney During Hearing For Accusing Her Of ‘Treason’

Former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard testified at a weaponization subcommittee hearing on Thursday, ripping Republican Utah Sen. Mitt Romney for accusing her of “treason.”

“Senator Mitt Romney accused me of treason, a crime that is punishable by death under our laws,” Gabbard told the committee. “I challenged him to back this serious allegation up with evidence. What was this based on? There was no response, no explanation, no evidence and certainly no apology.”

The allegations of Gabbard’s “treasonous” behavior stem from a tweet the former representative shared expressing concern that reported biolabs in Ukraine, if breached, could result in “deadly pathogens” being spread throughout the world. Romney responded to Gabbard’s video with his own tweet, saying, “Tulsi Gabbard is parroting false Russian propaganda. Her treasonous lies may well cost lives.”

Gabbard, who was a member of the Hawaii National Guard, continued her testimony by pointing out that those kinds of accusations are often shrugged off and dismissed as politics.

“That may be easy for some of you to say, but for somebody who wears the uniform, this is serious. It’s serious not only to me but to my fellow service members and veterans. Every one of us making a decision that at some point in our lives to raise our right hand prepared and volunteering to lay our life down for this country,” she stated.

Gabbard left the Democratic Party in October, claiming it was “controlled by fanatical ideologues who hate freedom” and further stating that the party would actively work with the corporate media and Big Tech to silence anyone who questioned their agenda.

The new House subcommittee that heard her testimony is investigating claims regarding the weaponization of the federal government, specifically “the politicization of the FBI and DOJ and attacks on American civil liberties,” NPR stated.

“When those who dare to challenge the establishment targeted by this powerful conglomerate of government, corporate media and Big Tech weaponizing all that they have against the people for their own selfish gain, it has a dangerous, chilling effect on free speech, and it sends a very powerful message: if you dare to challenge us, we will come after you,” she said to the committee.

“The more we allow this to happen, we start looking less and less like a democratic republic and more and more like a banana republic,” she added.

Obamacare Ropes More Into Government Dependency

The Biden administration is crowing about the record number of sign-ups for Obamacare this year.  They shouldn’t be.

A record 16.3 million people signed up in the latest enrollment period.  Supporters trumpet the notion this is double the number who signed up when Obamacare first became available.  Sounds great, right?  Not so fast.  When they were selling us the Obamacare legislation, they promised 21 million people would sign up right away.  That’s never happened, and they’re still 30 percent short of the goal they set for themselves ten years ago.

Besides, it’s no mystery why enrollment went up this year.  Obamacare subsidies have been jumbo-sized and the jumbo subsidies have been extended through 2025.  Now, some people don’t have to pay for it at all.  They get zero-dollar premiums.  If you give it away for free, of course more people will sign up.  No mystery there.  So now they’re practically giving it away and they’re still 30 percent short of where they thought they would be a decade ago.  That’s not a triumph.  It’s an utter abysmal failure.  The failure is not unexpected; only half of Americans approve of Obamacare and, now as we’ve seen, most people don’t want it, unless it’s handed to them on a silver platter.

It’s not hard to see why people don’t want it.  First of all, lots of the best hospitals and doctors won’t take Obamacare.   Obamacare patients don’t have access to top-tier care.  Doctors hate Obamacare because it adds layers of paperwork to their burdens.

Second, Obamacare has led to concentration in the individual insurance market.  Prior to Obamacare, there were lots of insurers competing on price and features.  Obamacare standardized many of those features and, in addition, caused lots of insurers to drop out.  I read one article crowing about how most of the country now has three insurers in their state Obamacare exchange.  Only three?  Here’s what happens when the market becomes concentrated and you only have three companies competing for business, according to a recent GAO report:

From 2015 through 2020, most states’ exchanges were concentrated and became more concentrated over time…. In 2020, the exchanges were concentrated in all states…. [M]arket concentration … can result in higher premiums due to less competition in the market.”

So what’s being covered up by the jumbo subsidies is the fact that premiums are rising behind the scenes, because of Obamacare.  Insurers can hike prices because federal subsidies ensure consumers don’t feel the pain.  By the way, the overall price tag for those subsidies is a lot higher than originally estimated.

Obamacare is also causing overall healthcare costs to go up.  The insurance taxes in Obamacare get passed along to consumers.  Obamacare was supposed to keep people out of expensive emergency rooms, but ERs are more crowded than ever.

But the most insidious effect of Obamacare is increasing dependency on government.  People are being trained to rely on government as the answer for everything instead of relying on themselves and looking to the private sphere for solutions to what they need.  The law putting jumbo Obamacare subsidies in place also pushed welfare spending further into the middle class.  A family of four that makes $111,000 a year is now eligible for subsidized health insurance.  That’s crazy.  Most people who take the subsidies already had health insurance, so government dependency is crowding out private insurance.

There’s been commentary recently that we’re turning into a nation of welfare moochers.  People can make $80,000 to $100,000 a year in Obamacare subsidies and other government benefits for sitting around doing nothing.  That’s not normal, healthy, or sustainable.  As the economists like to say, things will continue until they can’t.

Democracy Gets Lost In The Mail

There are still plenty of problems with our elections process.  Today, I look at one of them – mail-in voting.  It was expanded in the COVID era, and Democrats want to cement it in place even though the COVID emergency rationale for it has disappeared.

In 2021, California passed a law to send every registered voter a ballot in the mail, automatically, for every election.  In the 2022 election in California, election officials rejected over 226,000 mail-in ballots, primarily because they arrived too late to be counted.  These people thought their vote would count when they put their ballot in the mail, but they were wrong.  They were disenfranchised by the system California put in place.  How is a system that foreseeably disenfranchises so many people not a threat to democracy?

There are other problems with California’s mail-in system.  Some people forgot to sign their mail-in ballots.  They were disenfranchised, too.  Dead people are sent ballots in such a system when voter rolls are not kept up to date.  Seven other states joined California in mailing ballots to every voter in the pandemic so, undoubtedly, the same problems can be found elsewhere.  Ideally, mass mail-in voting should be abolished but, in states where it’s here to stay, a driver’s license or other documentation should be required and all ballots arriving after election day should not be counted, an elections expert says.

Mail-in voting presents additional problems in states that allow ballot harvesting.  Political operatives can collect mail ballots at people’s homes, then fill them out, alter them, or simply fail to deliver them if the vote is not what the operatives want.

The best election security is at a polling place under bipartisan supervision.  The voter’s identity can be verified, the ballots are put in locked and sealed boxes, and the possibility of voters being pressured to vote a certain way by family members or party operatives cannot enter in.  And nothing gets lost in the mail, or stolen, altered, or forged.   This might not seem like a big deal to you but, remember, 20 million mail ballots went missing in the 2020 election.  In the 2022 mid-term elections in Nevada, three out of every four ballots mailed to every voter in the state were not mailed back.  What happened to all these missing ballots?  Who got ahold of them and for what purpose? Now you can start to see the scale of the problem.  Unfortunately, the Supreme Court recently turned away a challenge to mail-in voting in Pennsylvania that could have invalidated similar laws elsewhere.

I plan to come back next week and tell you about the continuing problem of private financing of our elections by left-wing groups.  Despite new laws passed in several states, the problem has not gone away and you’ll want to know how your vote is affected.

Biden Admits He Has No Plans To Replace America’s Oil Infrastructure

President Joe Biden continues his pursuit of the generation of electricity from wind turbines and solar panels while simultaneously moving to rid the world of fossil fuels. He has a short memory of petrochemical products and human ingenuity being the reasons for the world populating from 1 to 8 billion in less than two hundred years. America now represents a mere 4 percent of the world’s population.

The world’s population explosion was not just based on the discovery of oil alone a couple of hundred years ago. We have learned that crude oil is useless unless it can be manufactured into something usable. The 8 billion now on this planet are dependent on the oil derivatives and fuels that are manufactured from crude oil.

Today, the societies and economies within the diverse 8 billion people, are now dependent on more than 6,000 products in their daily lives, as well as manufacturing the fuels for 50,000 jets moving people and products, and more than 50,000 merchant ships for global trade flows, and the military and space program.

Ridding the world of oil, without a replacement in mind, is immoral and evil, as extreme shortages will result in billions of fatalities from diseases, malnutrition, and weather-related deaths, necessitating lifestyles being mandated back to the horse and buggy days of the 1800’s, and could be the greatest threat to the planet’s eight billion residents.

President Biden should be advised of the old proverb “you can’t have your cake and eat it too” which tells us that you can’t rid the world of fossil fuels and continue to enjoy the products and fuels manufactured from fossil fuels.

Under Biden’s watch, nine refinery closures in America have occurred in the last several years, the same manufacturers that are providing the derivatives for products and fuels for transportation that are the basis of a thriving economy. Those closures have resulted in the United States losing nearly 1 million barrels per day of oil refining capacity, with more set to be shuttered in the next few years.

These are the refiners that have closed recently or cut capacity under Biden’s watch:

  1. LyondellBasell, Houston, Texas: Capacity: 263,776 barrel-per-day (bpd)
  2. Phillips 66 Alliance, Belle Chasse, Louisiana: Capacity: 255,000 bpd
  3. Limetree Bay, St Croix, US Virgin Islands: Capacity: 210,000 bpd
  4. Shell Convent, St. James, Louisiana: Capacity: 240,000 bpd
  5. Marathon, Martinez, California: Capacity: 161,000 bpd
  6. Marathon, Gallup, New Mexico: Capacity: 27,000 bpd
  7. Phillips66, Rodeo, California Capacity: 120,200 bpd
  8. HollyFrontier, Cheyenne, Wyoming: Capacity: 52,000 bpd
  9. Calcasieu Refining, Lake Charles, Louisiana: Capacity: 135,500 bpd

The same time that Biden is diminishing the supply of manufactured products and fuels, he was emphatic during his State of the Union speech that products for the American economy would be “Made in America” and the “Supply chain begins in America” to support our growing economy. Logic and economics have proven that increased demands concurrent with reductions is supply, will be the catalyst to shortages and inflation in perpetuity.

Life without oil is NOT AS SIMPLE AS YOU MAY THINK as renewable energy is only intermittent electricity from breezes and sunshine and NEITHER wind turbines, nor solar panels, can manufacture anything for society.

Climate will continue to be a challenge, like it has for billions of years, but now, we have 8 billion on this planet that we didn’t have a few centuries ago, that we need to maintain healthy and productive in the decades ahead. Depriving them of the products and fuels manufactured from fossil fuels, could be a much greater threat to mankind, than any climatic challenges facing humanity.

Restricting the supply of oil feedstock to be manufactured by refineries into usable products for society is not helpful in meeting the growing demands by society. Further, Biden seems oblivious to one in five oil refineries that are expected to cease operations over the next five years which may another 20 refinery closures in America, President Biden’s plans to reduce emissions from manufacturing fossil fuels into usable products is a commendable objective, but he has no plans for the replacement of what is now manufactured from fossil fuels, which are supporting the 8 billion on this planet.

In addition to the refinery closures occurring under Biden’s watch, the future does not bode well for the 80 percent of the world’s 700 refineries that are located outside of America. Projections are that 20 percent of the 700 worldwide refineries are expected to close in the next 5 years. Further inflation and shortages in perpetuity are guaranteed, as refineries manufacture crude oil into the derivatives and fuels for the world’s 8 billion.

President Biden could enhance his energy literacy by viewing a short 1-minute video produced by Epoch Times TV about renewables that only generate electricity, but manufacture nothing for society. The video has already been viewed by more than 800,000 on social media.

Anesthesiologists Hide Painful Climate Plan After Climate Depot Exposé

A ridiculous plan to reduce anesthesia to combat climate change disappeared online after CFACT’s Marc Morano exposed it at our Climate Depot news and information service.

The article was pulled from the American Society of Anesthesiologists website within 48 hours of Marc posting it and tweeting about it.

The ridiculous justification for limiting anesthesia is that inhaled anesthesia accounts for up to 0.1% of the world’s carbon emissions, and that an hour of surgery using an inhaled anesthetic is equivalent to driving as many as 470 miles, according to a 2010 study.

The notion that people should risk pain and suffering during surgical procedures to “save” the planet is a perfect example of the crazy cult climate change has become.  Human sacrifice is demanded.  The fact that your future pain will not alter the temperature of the globe to a degree anyone can perceive in any meaningful way is entirely beside the point.

Marc explained the whole thing and more on Sebastian Gorka’s OAN television show and on In Focus with Addison Smith.

Marc further reports that the Harvard Medical School faculty is discussing intertwining climate into its entire medical teaching curriculum.

Subordinating our medical care to the climate regime seems a surefire way to violate a doctor’s basic Hippocratic oath to “first do no harm.”

Florida Senator Rick Scott: Biden ‘Lied’ about GOP Wanting to Cut Social Security and Medicare

UPDATE: You know how Biden said it was Republicans who wanted to end Social Security, Medicare, etc.? Just watch this:

During his State of the Union address Tuesday night, President Biden asserted that “some Republicans want Medicare and Social Security to sunset.” A chorus of GOP lawmakers, including Senator Rick Scott (R-Fla.) are fiercely disputing the claim, pointing out that as a U.S. senator, Biden himself supported cuts in the social welfare programs.

On Wednesday, Scott joined “Washington Watch with Tony Perkins” to discuss Biden’s remarks.

“What he said is a lie,” Scott made clear. “You can’t make this stuff up. I put out a plan (you can go to RescueAmerica.com) [that] says, ‘Look, let’s come up with ideas. How do we make this a better place? Let’s … promote families, promote God … make sure we respect human life. One section says we should sunset the laws and regulations unless we want to keep them. So [Biden] wants to put out there that we want to cut Medicare and Social Security, which is a lie.”

Scott went on to point out that as a senator, Biden advocated for cutting Social Security and Medicare himself.

“But guess what’s even better? He actually did a bill to sunset everything. Let me let me give you the quote of what he said: ‘When I argued that we should freeze federal spending, I meant Social Security as well, Medicare, Medicaid, veterans benefits. I meant every single solitary thing in the government.’ … So he might be a little bit of a hypocrite. And then, as you know, in September, he signed a bill to cut $280 billion out of Medicare, which will cut lifesaving drugs. So he might be a liar. He might be a hypocrite, but he’s one of those things. He could be clueless.”

Observers have pointed out that Biden has suggested making cuts to Social Security and Medicare on numerous occasions while in public office over a 40-year period.

“What he’s trying to do is just scare people,” Scott contended. He went on to assert that pursuing a balanced budget will be critical to saving programs like Social Security and Medicare from future insolvency.

“If we don’t balance our budget … if we don’t do anything, in 10 to 12 years, you’ll have over a 20% cut in Social Security. So if we just sit here and do what the Democrats want to do, just keep spending money, just augment a 20% cut. On top of that, we will run out of money. The bondholders are not going to lend us money.”

Scott continued, “We can balance this budget. … Biden could actually pay the interest without even any bills passing. But we’ve got a lot of ideas on how to do this. We’ve got to get our fiscal house in order and we’ve got to preserve Medicare and we’ve got to preserve Social Security, Medicaid, all these safety net programs that are important to people.”

‘Zombie Studies’: DeSantis Declares All-Out War on University DEI, CRT in Education Manifesto

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) last Tuesday rolled out a new education agenda designed to comprehensively recapture the state’s higher education system from woke ideologues. Instead, he set forth a conservative vision for a higher education system: “to focus on promoting academic excellence, the pursuit of truth, and to give students the foundation so they can think for themselves.” The proposals affect curriculum, faculty, funding, and more.

Proposed Reforms

DeSantis proposed reforms to Florida curriculum so that “everybody who goes through a Florida university has to take certain core course requirements that’s really focused on giving them the foundation so that they can think for themselves.” There is that phrase again — “think for themselves.” This is the essence of DeSantis’ proposals, and leftists work hard to smear it because they understand how popular that objective is.

Enjoying news and commentary from a biblical worldview?

Stand with The Washington Stand by partnering with Family Research Council.

DeSantis offered specifics. “The core curriculum must be grounded in the actual history, the actual philosophy that has shaped Western civilization. Our institutions are going to be graduating students with degrees that are going to be meaningful. We don’t want students to go through, at taxpayer expense, and graduate with a degree in Zombie Studies.” Florida is already practicing this at the high school level. Earlier this year, Florida rejected a proposed high school curriculum for AP African-American studies because it was riddled with CRT-related concepts. Days later, The College Board (which produces the curriculum) released “a serious rewrite,” in the words of The Wall Street Journal editorial board.

DeSantis also proposed reforms to hiring and firing of higher education faculty. He identified two problems with the hiring process: a political process and a lack of control by those supposedly in charge. A lot of hiring decisions are “done by faculty committees,” he explained. “And if they have a certain worldview that they want to promote, those are the kinds of candidates they’re going to bring in. And, if you don’t toe that line, you’re not going to get hired.”

That’s not just a “blue state” problem. A WSJ op-ed from this week began, “At Texas Tech University, a candidate for a faculty job in the department of biological sciences was flagged by the department’s search committee for not knowing the difference between ‘equality’ and ‘equity.’ Another was flagged for his repeated use of the pronoun ‘he’ when referring to professors.”

Under DeSantis’ proposed changes, university presidents may “go out and recruit directly. Boards of Trustees will be able to do a lot of this approving directly. And that’s going to make a huge difference in terms of making sure, not only do we have high quality faculty, but we’re not applying some type of ideological litmus test to be able to be hired in the first place.”

Another problem DeSantis identified is the irresponsible behavior encouraged by life tenure. He said “the most deadweight cost” to universities comes from “unproductive tenured faculty.” Under his new proposals, tenured faculty must undergo a performance review every five years, and they would be liable to an impromptu performance review at any time.

DeSantis also announced his intention to defund all DEI and CRT programs at Florida universities, particularly DEI bureaucracies. “We are also going to eliminate all DEI and CRT bureaucracies in the state of Florida. No funding, and that will wither on the vine,” he said.

In a December 28 memo, the governor’s office required public universities to itemize all woke programs and expenditures and report them by January 13.

“They reported that, and it’s a lot of money. And it’s not the best use of your money,” said DeSantis. “Those bureaucracies are not representative of what the people of this state and the taxpayers of this state want.” DEI “bureaucracies are hostile to academic freedom,” he continued. “And really, they constitute a drain on resources and end up — certainly around the country — contributing to higher costs as these bureaucracies metastasize.”

DeSantis justified scrubbing DEI bureaucracies for two closely intertwined reasons, one ideological and one pragmatic. First, their purpose runs counter to the academic freedom most Americans expect from public universities; they are, essentially, wrong. Second, they’re just too expensive. They capture resources that can be better spent elsewhere — and more so as they continue to grow. Pairing these reasons is both accurate and politically astute. Together, they outflank any counterargument (such as suggesting DEI bureaucracies might possibly provide a marginal benefit) except the most radically left endorsement of critical theory — which voters rightly see as crazy.

By purifying the hiring process and distilling out DEI bureaucracies, DeSantis hopes to transform public higher education into a potable experience. Under Florida’s proposed system, FRC senior fellow for Education Studies Meg Kilgannon told The Washington Stand, “Professors and students will be able to learn in an environment freed from politically correct groupthink.”

DeSantis rounded out his policy proposals with targeted initiatives aimed at certain professions and institutions. He proposed that Florida research universities increase their research grants for STEM programs up to $50 million annually (thus draining resources that might be used for less serious, woke “research”). He endorsed his administration’s efforts to expand the training of Floridians to serve in critical, under-staffed occupations, such as nurses, truck drivers, and mechanics. He promoted the establishment of two constitution-focused centers at Florida State University in Tallahassee and Florida International University in Miami.

DeSantis also expressed concern over the plight of New College of Florida, an autonomous public institution since 2001. “In Florida statute, it’s supposed to be our premier liberal arts college,” he lamented. “Its mission has been more into the DEI, CRT ideology, rather than what a liberal arts education should be.” DeSantis chief of staff James Uthmeier said last month, “It is our hope that New College of Florida will become Florida’s classical college, more along the lines of a Hillsdale of the South.”

In early January, DeSantis appointed six new members to the New College of Florida Board of Trustees, creating a conservative majority. Some of the appointees are widely known, such as Manhattan Institute fellow and CRT-exposer extraordinaire Christopher Rufo, Hillsdale College Professor Dr. Matthew Spalding, and former 1776 Commission member Charles Kesler.

It turns out that appointing conservatives to higher education boards — thus puncturing academia’s typical, boring, progressive sameness — excites potential applicants. “When we announced the trustees,” DeSantis said, “you had people asking, ‘How do I apply?’ You had professors asking, ‘How do I join?’” The national media may scoff, but introducing real diversity — intellectual diversity — to university systems generates widespread enthusiasm.

Political Context

DeSantis’s new round of education policy proposals builds on his popular but unfairly criticized efforts undertaken during his first term as governor. For instance, the national media widely lampooned the Parental Rights in Education Act as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill for prohibiting teachers from discussing inappropriate sexual content in K-3 classrooms.

But what the national media sees as a problem, the average Floridian — and average American, for that matter — views as popular. Governor DeSantis and other Florida Republicans cruised to huge victories throughout the former swing state in November, even as Republicans generally underperformed expectations in most of the country. After winning reelection by 20 points, Governor DeSantis announced, “Florida is where woke goes to die.”

Conservative Education Manifesto

DeSantis’ proposals for higher education reform were no haphazard assortment of disjointed, incoherent positions working at cross-purposes. Rather, each is a well-thought-out piece of a comprehensive vision for a higher education system free of woke nonsense. And DeSantis accompanied his proposals with a 20-minute speech which is probably best described as a conservative education manifesto.

“There’s really a debate going on about, what is the purpose of higher education, particularly publicly-funded higher education systems?” said DeSantis, “The dominant view is, the use of higher education under this view is to impose ideological conformity, to try to provoke political activism, and that’s what a university should be. That’s not what we believe is appropriate in the state of Florida.” Instead, he proposed “centering higher education on the academics, excellence, pursuit of truth, teaching kids to think for themselves, [and] not try[ing] to impose an orthodoxy.”

Not only will slicing up the woke monster restore academic freedom, but it will also free up resources to promote real education. “And so, you’re not spending the money on DEI bureaucracies,” said DeSantis. “You’re spending the money on bringing really good people in. … That makes much more sense from a financial perspective, and it’s much more mission-oriented.”

DeSantis suggested his vision for higher education is actually quite popular. The more we implement this vision, he said, the more “you are going to see people flooding into these institutions because there’s a desire for it.” He underlined the basic motivation for this desire, “people want to be in a situation where they can send their kids to a university or college and not have to worry about, ‘what is going on?’”

He used New College of Florida as a prime example. Its DEI bureaucracy “really serves as an ideological filter, a political filter,” he said. “New College has really embraced that, and I think that’s part of the reason it hasn’t been successful and the enrollment’s down so much. Because I think people want to see true academics, and they want to get rid of some of the political window dressing that seems to accompany all this.”

Higher education reform benefits not only college-bound students and their parents, but every taxpaying Floridian as well, added DeSantis. “It’s important that your tax dollars are funding institutions that you can be proud of, with a mission you can be confident in.”

More Than Just Slogans

With slogans like “education not indoctrination” and “bring more accountability to the higher education system,” the new round of changes to higher education in Florida may seem like all talk and no action — a politician specialty. After all, things that sound too good to be true usually are. But when you pierce the surface, Florida’s new education plan brings the substance, too.

“This move by Governor DeSantis to really direct and guide higher education officials in his state is a great development,” said Kilgannon. “For too long, conservative leaders have not prioritized reforming higher education in ways that impact the moral and cultural life of students and faculty.” But the DeSantis plan emphasizes what others have neglected.

Nor are DeSantis proposals pie-in-the-sky fairy tales. “By reining in diversity, equity, and inclusion infrastructures that often act as Marxist politburos on college campuses, Governor DeSantis is offering not just an ideological critique but an actionable path toward reform,” said Kilgannon.

This path to reform already has the buy-in of every Florida college president. All 28 of them signed a letter pledging to “ensure that all initiatives, instruction, and activities do not promote any ideology that suppresses intellectual and academic freedom, freedom of expression, viewpoint diversity, and the pursuit of truth in teaching and learning. As such, our institutions will not fund or support any institutional practice, policy, or academic requirement that compels belief in critical race theory or related concepts such as intersectionality, or the idea that systems of oppression should be the primary lens through which teaching and learning are analyzed and/or improved upon.”

Here is a conservative education solution that doesn’t content itself with condemning leftist dominance in higher education; it actually proposes a workable alternative. DeSantis’ team has clearly thought long and hard, at every level, about what is required to take back the wheel of a public education system and redirect it to serve all the citizens and taxpayers of Florida.

Two qualities are rare among politicians: a brain and a spine. With these comprehensive education proposals, DeSantis demonstrates both.

Florida’s education plan is making news because it hasn’t been attempted before. No other conservative state has set forth a plan this comprehensive or this pragmatic to recapture higher education. “I don’t think there’s any state in the country that’s been leading on the issue like Florida,” said DeSantis. “We’ll be the first state that’s actually leading by example.”

“This is a great example for others on how to tackle the problem of taxpayer funded Marxist education at the higher-ed level,” said Kilgannon. “And since this is where teachers are formed for service in K-12, it’s a reform that will benefit younger children too.”

“We have more work to do,” said DeSantis. But he added, “I think you’re going to see some positive results really quickly.”
