VIDEO: In 1964, Malcolm X Warned Blacks that Democrats are anti-Black

In 1964, when Malcolm X noticed that the then Negro leadership was working and planning an August 28th, Civil Rights March on D.C., with the Democrat White House of Lyndon Johnson, Bobby Kennedy, and the whole Democrat Party, as blacks peoples’ former chattel slave masters for 245 years; and the time, 99 years of Black Codes and Jim Crowism; the very cause for the civil rights movement, Malcolm X, admonished to them the following:

That black people was having the “wool pulled over their eyes”, hoodwinked, run-a-muck, bamboozled.

Now, 53 years later, alarmingly, he has been proven right.

Didn’t Malcolm X try to fore warn today’s progressive black Democrats—that the Democrats are not what they appear to be?

How are citizens supposed to detect fake news when the real news is so bizarre? How did Karim Cheurfi, born 31 December 1977 à Livry-Gargan (Seine-St. Denis outskirts of Paris) achieve his lifetime dream of killing a policeman despite the “vigilance” of the courts and law enforcement? How did he manage to do it on the Champs Elysées smack in the middle of the final all- candidate show of a problematical presidential campaign? How could this emblematic attack not influence the results of the first-round vote on April 23rd?

The final 11-candidate show

Because several of the leading candidates refused to participate in a last-minute debate, France 2 organized an 11-piece candidate show on the 21st of April. Expecting a routine replay of all that had gone before, bottom-heavy with the obligatory presence of all 11 candidates, I faced up to my self-imposed obligation to miss nothing, follow everything, dig everywhere, and think uninterruptedly.

In fact, it was more interesting than the “debates” that channel candidates into one-minute statements on contrived questions. In the close up 15-minute segments with each candidate in turn, hosts David Pujadas and Lea Salomé were less intrusive, the candidates were more expansive, and….one hour into the broadcast, Pujadas announced the “terrorist attack” on the Champs Elysées. Yes, from the first flash, authorities labeled the attack with the code word terrorist meaning jihad. From that point on, candidates integrated into their 15-minute slot a spontaneous reaction to the breaking news. I reported details as they emerged in updates to Part 3 of this series.

As the broadcast came to an end, all 11 candidates lined up in the studio and gave 2-minute closing statements. With the exception of Marine Le Pen and François Fillon, they were incapable of integrating the sudden intervention of harsh reality. After a brief expression of condolence for the family of the slain policeman and wishes for the prompt recovery of his wounded colleagues, they each delivered the vote-for-me speech they had prepared in advance. Le Pen, Fillon, and Macron announced cancellation of events scheduled for the following day, Friday, the last day of the campaign.

Special Edition (= Breaking News)

Midnight. Switch to the Champs Elysées, thick with police vans and flashing blue lights, reminding me of the scene on bd. Beaumarchais on the fateful night of November 13, 2015. As if the central nervous system of Paris were emitting an alert of immediate massive danger. Details emerged, some confirmed others corrected the following day. A policeman died instantly, shot in the head as he sat at the wheel of his van. Another critically wounded, a third less seriously hit. The assailant shot dead before he could kill anyone else. Already identified, his ID is in the Audi he drove up to his private little killing field. For the purposes of the investigation, his name would not yet be released. Daesh took claim for the attack but something doesn’t fit, they identify the soldier as Belgian. Is there another one on the way?

Morning after

The previous arrest of two jihad hopefuls ready to strike in Marseille did not get the attention it deserved. This studied avoidance is a familiar practice of French media. We know the reasoning: uh-oh terrorist attack, might be to the advantage of Le Pen and Fillon and disadvantage peace & love Macron, so let’s not talk about it. Kamil Cheurfi’s exploit could not be ignored. Especially as details of the determined cop killer’s CV rolled out. He spent 14 of the past 16 years in jail. It started in 2001 when the stolen car he was driving collided with a vehicle driven by a rookie policeman and his brother. Cheurfi broke and ran, the two men chased him down and when they got close, he fired, wounding both of them seriously in the chest. While in detention for this crime he tricked a gendarme into entering his cell, grabbed his gun, and shot at him. All three of these victims survived. In 2008 he was charged with assaulting a prison guard and attacking a cellmate in 2009. Authorities recently received an alert from an acquaintance of Cheurfi: he said he wants to kill policemen because they ruined his life. Because they didn’t let him get away with the stolen car? Drawing him into a vicious circle?

Friday morning, Marine Le Pen and François Fillon made statements from their respective headquarters. Le Pen was as usual emotional, bombastic, long-winded and all over the place. She solemnly enjoined the government to take immediate measures to seal the frontiers, stop all immigration, deport bi-national terror risks, close radical mosques, a whole program of things it never did and can’t do now, two weeks before vacating the premises. She accused the government of doing nothing and claimed she could have done everything. Last night’s shooting, the Mohamed Merah massacre, and everything in between would never have happened if she were president. After spending most of her campaign touting ridiculous retrograde isolationist protectionism, she splattered her fire at Islam.

Shortly after Le Pen’s speech, François Fillon spoke briefly, soberly, and to the point, rightfully reminding voters that he has been warning about Islamic totalitarianism for years, published a book on the subject as he entered the primary campaign, gave it a prominent role in his program and campaign, and will combat it with an iron fist as president. He emphasized that we must be armed politically, militarily, and ideologically; the aim of this totalitarian movement is to destroy our civilization. He outlined measures that will be taken: control our frontiers, maintain the state of emergency, reinforce the police and military, improve intelligence services, tighten the judicial response to security risks, increase prison capacity, and form a strong coalition to defeat Daesh abroad. Curiously, he includes Iran in this coalition. When he is president, I hope he will give another thought to that one.

The same polls that almost kicked François Fillon into 5th position credited him with 30% the first week after he won his party’s nomination. The same journalists and commentators that spent two months rubbing his nose in scandals that wouldn’t have caused a ripple 2 years ago, wondered how the terrorism issue had managed to slip out of the campaign only to enter with a bang on the Champs Elysées at the eleventh hour. In fact, every time Fillon had tried to talk about The Issue, they pulled him back to The Scandals. If François Fillon is really polling at 20% someone has to explain where the other 10% of voter intention went. To Marine Le Pen? Nothing can be excluded, but it would be so irrational. No one who is truly on the Right could swallow her Mélenchon-friendly economic program. No one who understands what it means to use political power could believe that Marine Le Pen would be capable of leading a modern nation through international mine fields.

Did the Center-Right inch over to Emmanuel Macron? He intervened at 12:45 with a stiff wooden declaration, so carefully calculated it sounded like it was concocted with social media tools-key words, emotion stickers, reassurance with a capital R. First, he promised to create a task force (in English in the text), and then went into a riff of I’ll be relentless in the DEFENSE of your SECURITY, I’ll PROTECT you, don’t let FEAR influence your choice, I will bring UNITY with my PROGRESSIVE project, I will transform our society by CULTURE and EDUCATION. He managed to pronounce the words “radical Islam” once without choking. And he got in a swipe at “the one who” (Sarkozy) weakened our intelligence gathering services.

This was followed by an astounding faux pas on the part of the outgoing prime minister. His intervention was so shocking that it produced uninhibited reactions from journalists and invited guests. Whatever their personal preferences, they were simply astonished that Hollande would stoop so low as to send his PM onto the battlefield to shore up the wavering wunderkind Macron. A righteously indignant Cazeneuve denounced the indecency of Marine Le Pen and François Fillon trying to make political hay of a tragic incident on the Champs Elysées.

It is these terrible low moments that should make us grateful for our albeit imperfect democracies: In a dictatorship the prime minister would have sent goons to arrest the two unwanted candidates. Or have them shot then and there.

The short unhappy life of Karim Cheurfi

As is his wont, Paris prosecutor François Molins began his statement to the press Friday afternoon on a philosophical note: this tragic event teaches us humility. Understood as- one attempt foiled, one that slipped through the armor. Then he recited like a Zen monk at a funeral the verified facts of the case. The weapons found in a sports bag in the trunk of the car, including a koran. The weapons found in the killer’s lodgings, plus the IT material, plus a prayer rug and koran. (Of course acquaintances said he was not religious, just a loner). His various crimes and convictions. He spent 14 of the past 16 years in prison. Four convictions. Shooting at the rookie policeman in 2001, shooting at the gendarme, attacking his cellmate and, recently, breaking and entering, theft, disorderly conduct… The math is a bit complicated. Apparently released several years before the end of the first 15-year sentence, sentenced to 2 years of prison and 2 years suspended sentence for the latest crime, he was under surveillance while preparing to finally kill policemen.

Maître Jean-Laurent Panier, the lawyer who defended him in the last case, doesn’t think his client was religious or radicalized; his problem is psychological. He was a loner. His family tried to help but didn’t succeed. Cheurfi’s mother, born in Algeria, is divorced from his father and from her second husband, a “Frenchman.” The lawyer complains that his client didn’t get proper psychiatric treatment while on parole. Maître Panier happened to be on the Champs Elysées Thursday night, not far from N° 102 where Xavier Jugelé the murdered policeman was stationed to protect the Turkish tourist association. Yes, the lawyer had given it a thought-he might have been collateral damage in the shooting. I don’t know if he gave it a thought that Xavier Jugelé might be still alive if he hadn’t got his client off with a suspended sentence.

Furious grieving law enforcement

Law enforcement is fed up. State of emergency, Nuit Debout, weekly demonstrations against the el Khomri labor reform, targeted by violent anarchists, jihadists, union radicals and misguided kids. Thousands of policemen injured, several almost burned alive, a police couple savagely slaughtered, and now this…

Kamil Cheurfi was briefly detained in February after authorities were alerted to his plans to kill policemen in revenge for what France was doing in Syria. He was reportedly contacting jihadists and trying to procure weapons. His lodgings were searched (he lived in a sort of add-on to his mother’s home), some IT material was confiscated, his phone was tapped, he was watched. In the absence of any sign of radicalization, he was released. Though he had spent a month in Algeria from mid-January to mid-February without informing the surveillance officer, he was not sent back to prison.

Dominique Riset of BFM TV read passages from the police report. I don’t think he invented it! Asked to explain why he had purchased-via Amazon of course-two hunting knives, a go-pro camera, and a fencing mask, Cheurfi said the knives were to cut fish and the mask was for a carnival disguise. Further, the report states that the ex-convict did say he wanted to kill policemen but did not target any specific policeman by name. There was no evidence whatsoever of any psychiatric problem. The trip to Algeria? He went there to get married. N.B. Mohamed Merah used the same excuse for his extended visits to jihad territory in the Middle East. Nevertheless a new investigation was initiated on March 3rd for “self-radicalization.” Nevertheless, he was able to procure weapons and turn the Champs Elysées into one more battleground.

The ineluctable reality of the pollsters

Pollsters, journalists, and commentators spent the day speculating on the eventual influence on voters of the last-minute terrorist attack. They more or less agreed that it might cause a very slight shift here and there, but nothing dramatic. No upset. Pollsters seem to be more sure of themselves than ever. Almost smug. Whatever you think, ladies and gentlemen, we know what will be on the menu Sunday night. You might be trembling with suspense, but we’re endowed with the scientific tools of political fortune telling. You had a bash at the outdoor snack & drink with Jean-Luc (Mélenchon) and his Podemos compadre on Friday when the bigshot candidates were cowering in their headquarters but we know your guy is not going to make it to the 2nd round. You think, monsieur ‘dame, that François Fillon, having overcome the handicap of Penelopegate and all the etcetera, will ride to victory on the white stallion of his decades of political experience, enjoy your pipe dreams. Sunday night it’s going to be Macron and Le Pen. You can throw your big data analysis in the trash file.

Social 1st round

The CGT (Communist labor union) and associates are helping themselves to a “social 1 round” this Saturday, the day before voters go to the polls. Apparently the government authorized the demonstration at Place de la République, despite the state of emergency, despite the fact that law enforcement is stretched thin, despite the risk of violence and vandalism by anarchist fringe elements. They’re in the streets with sound systems and slogans, determined “to impose their demands” on candidates and voters combined.

Last week, a modest demonstration by Kabyles yearning for independence went unnoticed. We’re fed up, they told me, with that repressive Algerian government. I asked if they get support from any political forces in France. Nothing, they replied. And we are good citizens. We integrate, we support the nation, we obey the law and even if we’re Muslim we aren’t extremists We live and let live. The Kabyle increasingly insist on the distinction between themselves and Algerians

MEMRI reports that French Salafists are telling Muslims it is haram [forbidden by Islamic law] to vote.

University of Missouri Professor: NRA more dangerous than ISIS

How asinine is American academia today? It just keeps getting worse. What expanse of territory does the NRA control? How many people has the NRA beheaded and brutalized there? What calls has the NRA issued to its followers and other sympathetic people to murder civilians in the U.S. and other countries? Where are the sex slaves that the NRA has captured from among feminist gun control advocates?

A blinkered Leftist propagandist such as George Kennedy should not be allowed anywhere near a university classroom. Instead, however, the Missouri School of Journalism will probably bring him back and make him head of the department.

George-Kennedy

George Kennedy

“MO School of Journalism Prof: NRA More Dangerous Than Islamic State,” by AWR Hawkins, Breitbart, April 20, 2017:

Missouri School of Journalism professor emeritus George Kennedy suggests the National Rifle Association (NRA) is more dangerous than Islamic State.

Writing in the Missourian, Kennedy observed:

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria is a terrorist organization founded in 1999, headquartered in Syria and feared around the world. The NRA was founded in 1891, headquartered in Fairfax, Virginia, and is feared by politicians across America.

To be fair, the NRA was actually founded in 1871, but Kennedy continued:

What makes the Islamic State so feared it its willingness to kill in pursuit of its goal of creating a fundamentalist caliphate.

What makes the NRA so feared is its willingness to spend heavily and campaign aggressively in pursuit of its goal of removing all restrictions on the possession and use of firearms just about anywhere by just about anyone.

Notice how Kennedy went from incorrect information–the wrong founding date for the NRA–to unsubstantiated claims that the NRA wants to allow “possession and use of firearms just about anywhere by just about anyone.” In reality, the NRA fights for the enforcement of the law and the prosecution of firearm-wielding criminals with a fervor equaled only by its defense of law-abiding citizens’ right to keep and bear arms. Kennedy’s language muddies the water and misses the point.

Kennedy then claims the number of Americans killed by ISIS jihadists since 9/11 is nine. That is not a typo, he actually links to a Euronews source and claims only nine Americans have been killed by ISIS jihadists since the terror attacks on NYC in 2001.

Where were Kennedy and the Euronews when an attacker claiming allegiance to ISIS attacked Orlando Pulse and killed 49 people on June 12, 2016? That gunman literally used a 911 call to announce his allegiance to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. And the Orlando Pulse attack is not the only one that could be mentioned to disprove Kennedy and his Euronews source.

Kennedy’s purpose is claiming “only nine” Americans killed by terrorists was really to set up his second point, that “11,737 Americans” are murdered each year with guns. This figure is actually close to the truth. The average number of firearm-related homicides hovers around 10,500 to 11,500 annually. Many of these homicides occur in gang-riddled cities like Chicago and Baltimore. For example, there were nearly 800 homicides in Chicago in 2016 and over 300 in Baltimore. So a tenth of our nation’s homicides occurred in two Democrat-controlled cities, both of which look to gun control as the solution for the failure of gun control….

Your Socialism is Bad and You Should Feel Bad by Daniel J. Mitchell

I’m tempted to say that statism is sort of like a cult. Proponents of socialism and other big-government ideologies have a dogmatic zeal that blinds them to reality.

For instance, no nation has ever become rich with big government. But that doesn’t stop leftists from advocating in favor of higher taxes and more coercive redistribution.

They are equally capable of rationalizing that economic misery in places such as Greece and Venezuela has nothing to do with bad policy, and you can even find a few zealots willing to defend basket cases such as Cuba and North Korea.

So long as they don’t burn me at the stake for my heretical views, I guess I won’t get too agitated by their bizarre fetish for statism.

But I will periodically mock them. And that’s the purpose of today’s column. We’ll start with this nice comparison between a capitalist grocery store and a socialist grocery store. I have no idea, by the way, if the lower image actually is a supermarket in a socialist country, but let’s not forget that a real-world version of this comparison is one of the reasons there’s no longer an Evil Empire.

But the bad news about socialism is not limited to economic deprivation for the masses.

The system also leads in many cases to totalitarianism (see this article by Marian Tupy, for example).

Venezuela is a particularly poignant example. Once the richest nation in Latin America, it now is an economic laggard and also is a cesspool of oppression.

Which makes this set of images from Reddit‘s libertarian page both funny and sad.

As you might expect, Milton Friedman had some very pointed observations on this topic.

The really good part starts shortly before 2:00. He explains very clearly that socialism is based on force and coercion.

I’ve saved the best for last.

The PotL sent me this collection of risky temptations and it perfectly captures the attitude of many statists. No matter how many times socialism has failed, they never learn the appropriate lesson. It just hasn’t been tried by the right people, they tell us. Or been imposed in the right circumstances.

So they want us to give it one more try, just like a person with no willpower will eat one more bite of chocolate.

Which is the same message you find here, here, and here.

Incidentally, this analysis not only applies to socialism, as technically defined, but it also applies to redistributionism. Which is definitely more benign, but nonetheless produces bad results.

The bottom line is that statism is a recipe for stagnation and free markets are a route to prosperity.

Muslim legislator thinks Islamic terrorists should get their life insurance policies

By voting against a bill that would block life insurance payments to terrorists killed while killing Americans, Minnesota legislator Ilhan Omar shows her allegiance to her people.

From Leo Hohmann at WND:

Omar as the inspiration for a Somali Muslim Barbie doll.

She burst on the scene last August when she upset a 44-year incumbent Democrat in the Minnesota state primary elections to become the nation’s first female Muslim state legislator.

Ilhan Omar, the 34-year-old community organizer who came to America as a refugee from Somalia, was touted by Democrats as a model success story.

“From a refugee camp to the State Capitol with intelligence and insight,” beamed former Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, who endorsed Omar. “This is a wonderful story to tell as Americans, and a great source of pride for the state of Minnesota’s open arms.”

But on Thursday Omar made her mark in another way.

She was one of only two members of the Minnesota State House to vote against a bill that would allow life insurance companies to deny payouts to the beneficiaries of terrorists who die in violent attacks on Americans.

The House voted 127-2 to pass the bill, which now moves on to a vote in the State Senate.

Omar, who represents the heavily immigrant Cedar Riverside area of Minneapolis, was joined by fellow Democratic Rep. John Lesch of St. Paul in voting against the bill.

Omar’s vote sticks out because at least 42 Somali refugees have been confirmed by the FBI to have left the U.S. to join overseas terrorist organizations, including al-Shabab, the al-Qaida affiliate in Somalia, and ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

[….]

The Minnesota insurance bill was introduced by Rep. Joe Hoppe, R-Chaska, in response to Syed Farook’s jihadist rampage in San Bernardino, California, in December 2015 in which he shot and killed 14 people and injured 22 at an office Christmas party. Farook made sure his life insurance policies worth $275,000 were valid before conducting the deadly shooting with help from his wife, Tashfeen Malik.

After Farook died in a shootout with police, his mother fought to remain the beneficiary of the life insurance policies. The insurance company balked and the case has gone to court.

There is much, much more including an interview with our friend Debra Anderson, continue here.

See our previous posts on Omar by clicking here.

Why can’t someone in Congress introduce (and get passed!) a federal bill to bar life insurance payouts in cases like the San Bernardino slaughter.  There will surely be more as the US Muslim population increases!

EndNote: There will be many more Muslim legislators like Omar as well if this group has it’s way:  See Jetpac Inc.

VIDEO: Special Gun Rights for Muslims?!

Faith Goldy reports:

When I applied for my Canadian firearms licence after passing my federally mandated PAL and RPAL courses, the RCMP got all of my information. They asked for everything from medical history, relationship history, familial structures, and a photograph.

However, when I recently logged online to renew my license, I noticed something peculiar:

An exception to the usual regulation requiring a photograph, citing religious exemption!

So, I contacted the RCMP, and you won’t believe what happens next.

While I’m no fan of tighter gun control measures, shouldn’t all law-abiding gun-owners be treated equally in Canada?

Why are special rights being granted to members of certain religious sects while other Canadians are held to a different standard?

ISIS takes credit for Paris slaughter, says Muslim shooter was from Belgium

This attack should lead European authorities to realize that they’re in a war, and that it’s getting worse, and that they’re not winning, and that they need to undertake a drastic reassessment of their approach to this whole problem. But it probably won’t.

“Paris attack: Isis claims responsibility for shooting that left one police officer dead,” by Jon Sharman, Lucy Pasha-Robinson, and Katie Forster, Independent, April 20, 2017:

Extremist group releases statement saying attack was carried out by Belgian Isis fighter

A police officer has died and two are seriously wounded after a shooting near the Champs-Elysees boulevard in Paris.

Isis have claimed responsibility for the attack, in which the officer was said to have been killed while in a car stopped at a red light.

A report citing a police source said the person who fired on officers had been killed in turn. Officials said the suspect had previously been flagged as an extremist.

The Paris prosecutor’s office said it had identified the attacker and was looking into whether he acted alone. Raids are ongoing in the city, it was reported.

A police source said the shooting was very probably a “terrorist act”, according to Reuters, while other reports suggested robbery may have been the motive.

The French interior ministry said it was too early to judge the reason behind the attack, but a counter-terrorism inquiry has been opened.

‘It looks like another terrorist attack,’ says Trump of Paris shooting….

Did you know that a 14-year-old child can legally marry in New York State?

There is a move to make sex with underage children legal across America.

Alfred Kinsey.

Dr. Judith Reisman in a March 25th, 2016 column titled They’re mainstreaming pedophilia! wrote:

Alfred Kinsey’s ongoing sexual anarchy campaign has no end in sight.

Matt Barber, associate dean of the Liberty University School of Law, and I attended the “B4U-ACT” pedophile conference Aug. 17. To eliminate the “stigma” against pedophiles, this growing sexual anarchist lobby wants the American Psychiatric Association (APA) to redefine pedophilia as a normal sexual orientation of “Minor-Attracted Persons.”

Adhering to the Kinsey principle of lulling “straights” into a false sense of security, pedophile dress was largely conservative – short hair, jackets, some ties and few noticeable male ear piercings.

Matt Barber and I sat in the back of the meeting room among roughly 50 activists and their “mental health” attending female enablers. “Pedophilia, Minor-Attracted Persons, and the DSM: Issues and Controversies,” keynoted “Fred Berlin, M.D., Ph.D., as founder, National Institute for the Study, Prevention and Treatment of Sexual Trauma; Johns Hopkins Sexual Disorders Clinic.”

In December 2016 Heather BarrSenior Researcher, Women’s Rights Division of Human Rights Watch, in a December 7th, 2016 column titled Ending Child Marriage Everywhere—Including in the West: US and European Countries Allow Too Many Children to Marry wrote:

Did you know that a 14-year-old child can legally marry in New York State?

Ending child marriage is urgent, because it is deeply harmful to children, wherever they live. Married children often drop out of school, and are locked in poverty as a result. Married girls often become pregnant soon, and early pregnancy involves serious health risks for pregnant girls and their babies. Girls who marry earlier are at higher risk of domestic violence than women who marry as adults. Married girls often face extra barriers in escaping an abusive or unhappy marriage, and accessing shelter and legal assistance.

[ … ]

In New York, between 2000 and 2010, 3,853 children under 18 married, with permission from parents, judges, or both. In the vast majority of cases, it was girls marrying adult men. In 2014, 3 percent of Serbian women age 20 to 24 reported that they married before age 18.

So who is supporting child marriages?

Organizations such as B4U-ACT, the followers of Mohammed, pedophiles, pederasts and Kinseyites. This is child abuse, plain and simple. We hope this warning is heeded by elected leaders at all levels. Child trafficking, child prostitution and using children as sex slaves by groups such as ISIS is an epidemic.

Child sex abuse must stop.

Dear Mr. Carvalho: The Miami-Dade Schools Grandfathered Salary Suit is Very Much Real

Recently, the Superintendent of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Alberto Carvalho, called a related story “fake news” in response to an inquiry from Mr. Andrew Ladanowski

carvalho tweet

Anyone can say anything; it doesn’t make it so. After all, I can pin some fake antlers on Baxter the Cat and call him a 10 point buck; however, the fact remains he is still, and always will be, a cat.

What proof is there that the School District of Miami-Dade County violated the law with respect to the grandfather provisions of Florida Statute 1012.22?  The short answer is that the District ignored the plain language of the statute.  That said, you are entitled to a better explanation.  So first I am going to present the text of the law to you as it actually exists in print.  Next I am going to give you an example of grandfathering so that there is no doubt as to what it means.  Then I am going to give you some representative examples of deviations the District implemented – I can’t give you all of them over the last three years because it would take too many pages.  And finally, I am going to tell you how the District verbally tried to justify what they did.

  1. The statutes (both of them) are easy to read:

Grandfathered Salary Schedule The District school board shall adopt a salary schedule or salary schedules to be used as the basis for paying all school employees hired before July 1, 2014.

Florida Statute § 1012.22 (1) (c) 4. a. (emphasis added).

Grandfathered salary schedule means the salary schedule or schedules adopted by a district school board before July 1, 2014, pursuant to subparagraph 4. (Cited immediately above).

Florida Statute § 1012.22 (1) (c) 1. b. (emphasis added).

  1. How about an example of grandfathering?

Many cellular phone carriers including AT&T and Verizon had an unlimited data plan in the past, but these plans were discontinued. However, customers who already had subscribed to unlimited data plans could continue them for as long as they kept the same service. They were grandfathered.  But not new subscribers.  For them, the unlimited plan was no longer available, and they had to select from a limited plan.

  1. Some examples of 2015-16 salary schedule deviations from the grandfathered salary schedule:

Step

17             48,425             Down $1,875.00 from the grandfathered schedule.
19             51,900             Down $1,200.00 from the grandfathered schedule.
21             57,350             Down $1,000.00 from the grandfathered schedule.
22             60,775             Down $3,539.00 from the grandfathered schedule.
23             66,575             Down $3,750.00 from the grandfathered schedule.

  1. The District tried to justify it by saying that the grandfathered salary schedule would be any schedule they “designated as such.”

A little lame, don’t you think?

For a complete perspective of the pending complaint (still being drafted) that will be filed shortly in court, please review the amicus curiae brief authored by the lead attorney in the case per a related complaint that was addressed recently before Florida’s Public Employees Relations Commission.

As it will be a class action lawsuit, the plaintiffs are virtually suing on behalf of all the teachers of Miami-Dade County; thus, it is fair to say that 19,000 some odd M-DCPS school teachers will be suing the School Board in the foreseeable future.

Sadly, the United Teachers of Dade sided with M-DCPS in PERC and is opposed to the impending lawsuit.

Border Security is National Security: Yet GOP leaders are withholding funds for U.S./Mexican border wall

On April 9, 2017 The Hill reported that Democrats were winning the fight over the wall.

The Democrats have been adamant about preventing the construction of that wall.  Therefore if they are winning then America and Americans are losing.

Paul Ryan

As this report noted:

Despite President Trump’s request for more than $1 billion to fund the Mexican border wall this year, GOP leaders are expected to exclude the money in the spending bill being prepared to keep the government open beyond April 28.

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) says the choice is pragmatic and the money will come later.

But the issue has become a political thorn in the side of GOP leaders who are facing pushback from Republicans voicing concerns over the diplomatic fallout, the disruption to local communities and the enormous cost of the project, estimated to be anywhere from $22 billion to $40 billion.

With Democrats united against new wall funding, it’s unlikely the Republicans have the votes to get it through and prevent a government shutdown.

Ever since I have spoken out about the issue of immigration and national security, including during my appearances at Congressional hearings and when I provided testimony to the 9/11 Commission, I have been clear that simply building a wall along the U.S./Mexican border would not solve the immigration crisis.

However, I have come to compare the wall along that problematic border to the wing on an airplane.  Without a wing and airplane certainly would not fly, however, a wing by itself would go nowhere.

In other words, that border must be made secure and other deficiencies in the immigration system must simultaneously be effectively addressed including, of course, the vital issue of the effective enforcement of our immigration laws from within the interior of the United States.

The 9/11 Commission determined that multiple failures of the immigration system enabled not only the terrorists of September 11, 2001 but other terrorists, as well, to enter the United States and embed themselves as they went about their deadly preparations.

We have seen similar patterns in the terror attacks that have been attempted and/or successfully carried out in the United States in the years following the attacks of 9/11.

The preface of the official report,  “9/11 and  Terrorist TravelStaff Report of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States” begins with the following paragraph:

“It is perhaps obvious to state that terrorists cannot plan and carry out attacks in the United States if they are unable to enter the country. Yet prior to September 11, while there were efforts to enhance border security, no agency of the U.S. government thought of border security as a tool in the counterterrorism arsenal. Indeed, even after 19 hijackers demonstrated the relative ease of obtaining a U.S. visa and gaining admission into the United States, border security still is not considered a cornerstone of national security policy. We believe, for reasons we discuss in the following pages, that it must be made one.”

To go from the philosophical perspective to the pragmatism of the real world, on April 12, 2017 ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) posted a news release, Foreign national extradited and pleads guilty to human smuggling conspiracy that included these three paragraphs:

Sharafat Ali Khan, 32, a Pakistani citizen and former resident of Brazil, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to smuggle undocumented migrants into the United States for profit before U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton of the District of Columbia. Kahn was extradited to the United States from Qatar on July 13, 2016. Judge Walton scheduled Khan’s sentencing hearing for July 6, 2017.

According to admissions in the plea agreement, between March 2014 and May 2016, Khan and other co-conspirators organized and arranged the unlawful smuggling of large numbers of undocumented migrants to the United States. For their smuggling operation, Khan admitted that he and his co-conspirators used a network of facilitators to transport undocumented migrants from Pakistan and elsewhere through Brazil and Central America and then into the United States by land, air or sea travel. Khan further admitted that he was responsible for managing safe houses for the migrants and arranging a network of associates in other countries to serve as escorts during different legs of the smuggling route. Khan also admitted that voyage included harsh conditions that caused a substantial risk of serious bodily injury or death – including lengthy foot hikes with little food and water through the Darien Gap, a dangerous tropical forest area in Panama.

HSI New York investigated this case, with assistance from HSI Brazil, Mexico, Panama and Washington, D.C. field offices, the South Florida Joint Terrorism Task Force, FBI-Miami, the Human Smuggling Cell, the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) in Brazil, the Brazilian Federal Police and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s National Targeting Center. The Criminal Division’s Office of International Affairs provided significant support with the defendant’s extradition and foreign legal assistance requests.  The Justice Department thanks the Government of Qatar for their assistance with the extradition in this case. Senior Trial Attorney Michael Sheckels of the Criminal Division’s Human Rights and Special Prosecutions Section and Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard DiZinno of the District of Columbia are prosecuting the case.

On April 12, 2017 the Washington Times reported about this case in an article, Sharafat Ali Khan smuggled terrorist-linked immigrants, that began this way:

Federal authorities wrangled a guilty plea Wednesday from a Brazilian man who ran one of the Western Hemisphere’s more flagrant alien smuggling operations, sneaking dozens of illegal immigrants from terrorism-connected countries into the U.S. from 2014 to 2016.

Sharafat Ali Khan specialized in smuggling illegal immigrants from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh over to the West, where they would be staged in Brazil before being sent north to try to penetrate the U.S.

One of the men Khan helped smuggle into the country was an Afghan who authorities said was involved in a plot to conduct an attack in the U.S. or Canada and had family ties to members of the Taliban.

Neither the ICE news release nor the Washington Times article reported on the fact that the Tri-Border region of Brazil hosts terror training camps.

While there was no mention of that the smuggling operation had an involvement in that dangerous region of Brazil, the fact that the smuggler had resided in Brazil and that he and the illegal aliens he smuggled into the United States are citizens of countries that are associated with terrorism had first landed in Brazil on their way to the United States, certainly raises this disturbing possibility.

To gain a better understanding of the threats posed by this region of Brazil, it is important to read a paper, Islamist Terrorist Threat in the Tri-Border Region that was published by Jeffrey Fields, Research Associate, Center for Nonproliferation Studies.

While some politicians who oppose the construction of the wall seek political “cover” by advocating the use of technology on the U.S./Mexican border, especially drones, in reality drones are costly and all but essentially worthless.

On January 6, 2015 the Washington Post published an article, U.S. surveillance drones largely ineffective along border, report says that was predicated on an audit performed by the Office of Inspector General for the Department of Homeland Security on the use of drones by Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Nearly on year later, on November 2, 2016, the New York Times reported, Drones, So Useful in War, May Be Too Costly for Border Duty.

Although it has been said that there is no need to state the obvious, perhaps where the issue of drones is concerned, what should be obvious is not obvious.

Drones cannot make arrests.  It would be far more effective and less costly to fly Border Patrol agents in helicopters than to deploy unmanned drones to surveil the border.  airborne agents onboard helicopters who spot illegal aliens entering the United States can land and take the illegal aliens into custody.

Additionally, if agents on the ground are attacked, drones can only provide images of the incident so that other agents can head to the location to back up the agents who are under attack.

Border Patrol agents on helicopters can land immediately and come to the aid of their embattled colleagues.

Similarly, sensors may help agents identify the entry of illegal aliens as they enter the United States, but the it will again require Border Patrol agents to have to respond to arrest them.

A secure wall can prevent those illegal entries in the first place.

It must be presumed that politicians who take issue with these points do so because they want to keep that human tsunami of illegal aliens and possibly narcotics, coming across our borders.

It has been said, “Elections have consequences.”  We the People need to instruct our elected representatives that the way that they vote on legislation and funding have consequences for them.

Measles outbreak in Somali community; Muslim parents refuse to vaccinate children

This article at Mic Daily makes it sound like it is all about a fear that vaccines cause autism in vaccinated children.  However not mentioned is the Islamic prohibition on the use of vaccines.

Minneapolis Doctor Madlon-Kay

Here is the story at Mic Network Inc.  Golly gee, why can’t we get our message heard, say health officials.

Minnesota’s Hennepin County is in the midst of the state’s largest measles outbreak since 2011. Nine cases have been reported since last week, and officials expect the number to rise.

So far, all of the cases are among unvaccinated children. They have something else in common too: The affected children are all part of Minneapolis and St. Paul’s Somali-American community. According to a health department official, Minnesota’s Somali immigrant community has been a particular target of the anti-vaccination movement, colloquially known as “anti-vaxxers.”

“They’re very much engaged with and targeting this community,” Kris Ehresmann, infectious disease division director at the Minnesota Health Department, said in a phone call Wednesday.

According to Ehresmann, anti-vaccine groups began to target the Somali community around 2008, amid concerns about autism among Somali-American children. Anti-vaccine groups started reaching out to the Somali community and showing up at community health meetings, she said, disseminating misinformation linking autism to the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine, or MMR.

Since then, the population has seen a “steady decline in MMR vaccine rates.”

[….]

She [Dr. Diane Madlon-Kay, a practicing physician who has studied the low vaccine rates among Minnesota’s Somali community] and other doctors who serve that population have had little luck dispelling myths about autism and vaccines that travel quickly though the community via word-of-mouth, she said.

“We don’t seem to be making any headway with that at all,” Madlon-Kay said.

Despite countless studies indicating there’s no connection between vaccines and autism, Madlon-Kay doesn’t have much hope that science will change the minds of scared parents within the Somali community anytime soon.

What about Islam?

Not a word in the story about Islam and vaccines which is likely the bigger reason why health officials can’t educate the Somalis.  In only a few minutes search, here is one of many articles about “religious” prohibitions in Islam.

Islam and Medical Science Must Oppose Vaccination

The case against vaccination is first an Islamic one, based on Islamic ethos regarding the perfection of the natural human body’s immune defence system, empowered by great and prophetic guidance to avoid most infections. The case against vaccination is also a medical and health-related one. Incredible evidence, unbeknownst to most, has emerged in the West regarding the many serious health hazards that affect those who have been vaccinated.

For inquisitive minds, we have hundreds of articles about refugees and health issues (including mental health issues) in our ‘Health Issues’ category, here.  Measles is not the worst illness you will find there.

HIJRAH: Radical Islam’s Global Invasion

THE STORY

hijrah cover dvdHIJRAH – RADICAL (FUNDAMENTAL) ISLAM’S GLOBAL INVASION

Scenes of chaos are unfolding across the globe as millions of Muslim ‘refugees’ make their way out of the Middle East and into the west. Western governments are unprepared for the onslaught of Muslim migrants and world leaders appear completely ignorant of what the underlying mass movement is about. If we’re to believe the words of corporate media, and of course we shouldn’t, it’s all about human rights with virtually no potential for deadly consequences. But is that really what this is all about?

Refugees?

Is it all a harmless movement of people fleeing their homeland for hope of a better future in the west? Are the millions of Muslims migrating into the nations of the West willing to integrate into our culture and way of life? The following story should shake you to your core being. Because I’m about to show you truth the media is unwilling to share. I’m about to show you how this mass movement of Muslims is carefully and strategically designed to provide cover for something sinister. I’m Paul Nehlen and this is the story of modern day radical Islamic Hijrah.

Hijrah immerses viewers deep into the dark underworld of the Muslim refugee crisis. The story provides an extensive background into the origins of Hijrah, the true purpose of the refugee invasion happening across the globe and the shocking reality of how our very own government is fueling its rise.

How do you get your news?

If you had any doubt the news system was rigged, this might remove that doubt:

ABC News executive producer Ian Cameron is married to Susan Rice, former National Security Adviser.

CBS President David Rhodes is the brother of Ben Rhodes, Obama’s former Deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications.

ABC News correspondent Claire Shipman is married to former White House Press Secretary Jay Carney.

ABC News and Univision reporter Matthew Jaffe is married to Katie Hogan, Obama’s former Deputy Press Secretary.

ABC President Ben Sherwood is the brother of Obama’s former Special Adviser Elizabeth Sherwood.

CNN President Virginia Moseley is married to Clinton’s former Deputy Secretary Tom Nides.

And if that didn’t throw the final turd into the punch-bowl, the ultra-liberal New York Times is owned by Carlos Slim, the richest citizen of MEXICO! What a great big happy family!

Before you believe everything you read in the newspapers or see on TV — think about what these billionaire “insiders” have at stake when they lose their crooked “providers” in government.

French Presidential Campaign: Partie 3

Part 1 can be found here – click.

Part 2 can be found here – click.

The outstretched hand

The hagadah that is read during the pesach [Passover] seder is an intensely concentrated treatise on the subject of freedom. Something similar is happening in France today. The issues are dramatized by reality, realities that were deliberately kept out of sight have suddenly burst into the discourse and cannot be ignored. An intense concentrate of the issues that have been playing out since the end of September 2000* will reach a conclusion on the night of 23-24 April 2017 when the votes are counted and we will know what French citizens have decided to do about jihad conquest. The future of Europe, of the free world hangs in the balance. [* see my latest release, Troubled Dawn of the 21st Century]

Back then, deaf to the alarms of anti-Jewish violence triggered by the al Dura blood libel, French society stumbled from willful blindness to cozy antizionism until the rude awakening of the Charlie Hebdo executions, followed by the November 13th, 2015 mass jihad murders. Again, today, the murder of a 67 year-old Jewish woman thrown out the window like a piece of garbage by her Muslim neighbor did not move the media or intrude on a presidential campaign that keeps veering away from the crucial issue of survival.

And now, 18 April, a thunderbolt strikes: Mahiedine Merabet and Clément Baur are arrested in Marseille, suspected of preparing an imminent jihad attack on “the campaign.” They had the full kit: ski masks, Koranic verses, a go-pro camera, explosives, nuts and bolts, loaded assault weapons, and a hunting knife for good measure. British intelligence detected their allegiance to Daesh video and informed French authorities. François Fillon is the designated target, “talion law” is spelled out in bullets, and photos of Muslim children killed in bombings are displayed as justification. Mujahidin do not attack civilians…except in retaliation for crimes committed against Muslims.

Four days before the close of the campaign, Islamic totalitarianism pounces on us like a man-eating tiger on a forest path. Doesn’t that change everything? The danger to our democracy is not the employment of family members as parliamentary assistants! Two men of French nationality, one born into Islam, the other a convert, two lowlifes of no particular dimension, two flagged security risks like thousands of others, could have assassinated one of the four leading candidates and an untold number of supporters. Two common ordinary men loyal to the caliphate could have derailed the democratic process. A little monkey wrench thrown into the mechanism brings it to a halt.

The suspects had been under surveillance since December when a search of Mahediene’s apartment near Roubaix (permitted under the state of emergency statutes) had unearthed a Daesh flag, jihad propaganda, and a young man who gave a false name and turns out to be 23 year-old Clément Baur, reportedly converted to Islam by Chechens living in Nice, known to have contacts with jihad cells in Belgium. Mahediene, theoretically placed under house arrest, was already on the run. On the 1st of April the plotters went south, sublet a bed sitter in Marseille, and cooked up a storm of TATP.

It seems obvious to me that the nipped in the bud attack will change the outcome this Sunday. Most French journalists and commentators apparently disagree. We shall see.

Murder in Belleville

Further information has emerged about the anti-Semitic murder of Sarah Lucie Halimi since I gave the horrible news in an update to French Presidential Campaign Part 2. Kada Traoré, the 27 year-old African Muslim neighbor that broke into her apartment, beat her, and pushed her out the 3rd floor (= 4th) window, had been harassing the victim and her daughter for years, calling them dirty Jews. They were afraid of him. Traoré lived with his parents on the 2nd floor. The building is managed by Paris Habitat, a municipal housing administration. Did madame Halimi complain about the aggressive neighbor? If she had, would anything have been done about it? We are reminded of the savage jihad murder of Sébastien Selam in November 2003- ambushed, slaughtered and mutilated by his Muslim neighbor Adel Amaistibou, The murderer has never been punished for his crime. He spent a few years in a mental institution, often released on furloughs during which he stayed with his family that was still living in the same building as the victim’s mother, Juliette Selam, because they had turned down all offers from municipal housing authorities.

As many as 1200 people participated in a commemorative march in Belleville for Sarah Halimi. According to reports in Jewish media, Sarah Halimi was an M.D. and director of the daycare center at the Lubavitcher school on rue Pavée in the Marais. MP Meyer Habib says he personally informed François Fillon and members of his campaign organization; they had heard nothing about the murder. It didn’t strike the collective conscience. I don’t know if other candidates were aware of the incident. A few days later a 52 year-old American woman was stabbed to death as she was taking pictures of a famous graffiti wall in Montreuil. We know nothing more about her identity. The killer has been described as a homeless man.

Emmanuel Macron is an enthusiast for urban engineering. He says residents of the banlieue- a majority are Muslims from north or sub-Saharan Africa- should not be assigné à residence [under house arrest]. He means they shouldn’t be confined to ethnic neighborhoods. In fact, Jewish refugees from the Maghreb lived in relative peace with Muslim Maghrebis in those banlieues until recent decades when violent Jew hatred spread in Muslim circles. Jews who could afford to move deserted those neighborhoods en masse. And so did non-Muslim French people fleeing crime, drug dealers, caïds, vandals, Salafists, and halal butcher shops. The Front National spoke up for those refugees when other political parties were carefully ignoring the problem or blaming the victims.

Marine Présidente

This explains why so many foreign commentators think that Marine Le Pen is the only candidate that fights Islamization. The latest example is a long article in PJ Media by my friendly colleague Bruce Bawer. But I could also mention Geert Wilders. And dozens of friends and readers that write to ask me if the winning ticket is going to be Marine Le Pen and Frexit. I say they ask me but in fact they usually tell me. And I reply, and repeat, and explain, and reiterate: Marine Le Pen does not have a party fit to govern, she is unreliable, politically unstable, and currently losing ground. There is nothing she could do about Islamic jihad that François Fillon could not do better. Bruce thinks the gay-friendly FN is the sole rampart against Muslim homophobia that will turn France into a country where homosexuals are thrown from the tops of tall buildings, unless Marine prevails.

She will not and should not prevail. (I say that, but who knows?) There is a difference between shouting, snarling, and wielding political power. In a desperate attempt at sanitization, Marine dropped the Front National label and ran her campaign as “Marine Présidente.” She has nothing to govern with but the FN and there is no way the FN could win a majority in the legislative elections this June. What would become of her paper thin program with a hostile legislature? It’s easy, when you don’t live in France, to lock onto the same high points that elicit boisterous praise from her supporters at rallies: control the borders, reduce immigration to a trickle, impose law and order, get rid of criminals and caïds, deport binational security risks and jihad- preaching imams, ban niqabs and burkinis, impose respect for women… It gets a bit tricky when you add the ban on kippas in public and kosher slaughter along with halal. But it literally falls apart when you include her economic and international platform. Globalization is equivalent to Islamization in Marine Le Pen’s theology, and free market capitalism is no less a threat to France than Wahhabism. Further, all the strict measures she promises to impose depend on French exit from the EU and the Eurozone. It’s not going to happen.

You want her running our international relations? You think she’s the French Trump? Do you know what she thinks about the impertinent airstrikes on a Syrian airbase just because of a little chemical attack on civilians? She says it’s outrageous! We don’t want foreign powers to interfere in France, we shouldn’t be meddling in Syria or elsewhere. It’s none of our business. It was just a few weeks ago that Marine Le Pen declared, on a high profile visit to Lebanon: “Assad is the solution.”

Aymeric Chauprade, FN eurodeputy and former foreign relations advisor to Marine, left the party and turned his back on the candidate. He says the FN is not a democratic party, it’s a dictatorial sect. He claims 40% of the people elected to municipal or departmental Councils on the FN ticket have withdrawn. They thought they were joining an anti-system party, they found themselves in a “clan of incompetent, cynical predators.”

N.B.: François Fillon thinks his opponent in the 2nd round will be… Emmanuel Macron. That’s been my hunch for some time now. Fillon counts on the rationality of French voters in the intimacy of the election booth. It’s not the same, he says, as replying to pollsters. Currently, 4 candidates are in reach of the 2nd round, the margins are too close to call. That doesn’t keep pollsters from sending Le Pen and Macron to the second round and relegating Fillon to 3rd or 4th position.

Lider Maximo

My sources tell me that Japan’s Asahi Shinbun, too, is impressed by Marine Le Pen’s enthusiastic supporters at full-house rallies. The LR [Les Républicains] message is: Vote for Marine Le Pen and you’ll get Macron. Or Mélenchon! The meteoric rise of the Lider Maximo continued last week, leading some enlightened spirits to take a closer look at his program. Economist Nicolas Bouzou studied the whole voluminous document and concludes that Mélenchon’s model of government is based on dismal failures-Peronista Argentina and Chavezien Venezuela. Is it true that the chuckling dictator would pull France out of infamous international unions like the EU and NATO, and deliver us into the Bolivarian Union with Bolivia, Cuba, Venezuela, and a few Caribbean islands under the watchful eye of Russia and Iran? Now he says it’s not true. Champion of open-air rallies, Mélenchon consistently announces a round figure of 70,000, whether it’s Paris, Toulouse, or Marseille. As if he were already the dictator, no one questions his figures. People are impressed by the crowds, the fervor, the buzz, and the ever-increasing voter intentions. What impresses me is the contrast between the horrors he would impose if elected and the image he projects of a kindly fellow who will protect folks against those nasty bloodsucking capitalists. He has upstaged the Socialist candidate Benoît Hamon whose universal income looks like chicken feed compared to the billions Mélenchon tosses to the crowd at every rally.

11 – candidate debate

5 April: The debate organized by BFM TV, featuring all 11 candidates, was a grueling 4-hour ordeal. Roughly speaking, I think 7 of the 11 were anti-capitalists. They believe that free market capitalism spoils the countryside, ruins the farmers, crushes workers, pollutes the atmosphere, melts the ice cap, causes war and terrorism. Poutou (NPA New Anti-capitalist Party) and Arthaud (Lutte Ouvrière), arrogant hardline Communist Workers, have no compunctions about grabbing from the rich, giving to the poor, and fettering the bosses. They shouldn’t be allowed to distribute dividends, close factories, or lay off workers. As you move from those firebrands to Mélenchon and Le Pen, the rhetoric gets a bit smoother, the program more subtle, but the underlying principles are strikingly similar. Then there’s Asselineau, the instant Frexiter that makes Marine Le Pen look timid with her multi-stage plan to wrestle concessions from the EU and if that doesn’t work to let the people decide by referendum. Marine (that’s how everyone calls her) doesn’t bother about tying up loose ends. If the polls show her surefire for the second round, why not? If the polls say 72% are in favor of the euro and the EU, never mind. She’s running in the name of the people and the people will want what she wants.

The Big Tent Debate gave the “little candidates” a fair hearing.  In fact it was reassuring. We’re not missing anything. The little candidates are polling anywhere from 0.5 to 4.5% because they are niche products stuck on one or two issues, devoid of charm and stature. The Workers dressed way down, slouched, hissed and bitched, slathering the other candidates with insults. They flaunted their indifference to everything but their Cause. If they really spoke for the workers, I guess they’d be getting their votes!

Emmanuel Macron was strangely vacant during the debate, except for prickling when attacked. This is not unusual; When Macron is not the center of attention, the light goes out of his face, his eyes dim and his features freeze. I wonder why he drinks so much water during debates and rallies. Speakers do sometimes need to wet their whistles, but Emmanuel Macron’s thirst is noticeable.

Of course the journalists threw in a section on ethics. Just in case no one thought of attacking Fillon, the mise en examen, the scandal, and all that. Poutou the Worker dug his claws into both Le Pen and Fillon “stealing from the government cookie jar.”  Nathalie Arthaud whined: “and when a supermarket cashier helps herself to a chocolate bar, she’s fired!” And of course the candidates promised, one after the other, to prohibit hiring family members as assistants. Duhhh! Fillon lobbed a ball into François Hollande’s court with a list of the qualities that make an exemplary president, including telling the truth to voters, leaving the country in better shape than he found it, and not misusing public institutions to destroy rivals.

But his most important statement was: “we are at war.”

No other candidate said it and most of them implicitly contradicted it with the usual claptrap about not stigmatizing Muslims, not invading other people’s countries, pulling out of NATO, bringing prosperity and democracy to Africa.

No one knows where the vote will go. But I stand by my wish for a Fillon-Macron final round, a real confrontation of Right and Left. Right and Left are not immutable categories, but they make sense. And voters could sidestep the fantasy weavers and make a choice between two distinct world views. Today, Right is “we are at war” and Left is “we have to understand them, help them, make everyone feel good.”

Fillon, they say, is too harsh. He is asking the French to make sacrifices and efforts, to tighten their belts, to work longer hours and accept stingier public service. How dare he, when he himself has erred? He wants stringent punishment for bicycle thieves and immunity for himself and his family. Does anyone wonder why hundreds of thousands of highly skilled French expats willingly accept the conditions of a UK job market transformed by Margaret Thatcher?

Emmanuel Macron hit a bump last week but of course it never reached scandal proportions. It was revealed that Mohamed Saou, his liaison with the Val d’Oise, was too close for comfort with some questionable elements (e.g. the CCIF [collective against Islamophobia] and the Indigènes de la République) at war with the nation and/or allied with the Muslim Brotherhood. Then it all got fuzzy. Saou was not validated. But he was still the liaison guy. Saou promised Macron would not get the thousands of (Muslim) votes in the Val d’Oise if he was excluded. Finally, Macron admitted during a pause in a Beur FM broadcast (he didn’t know there was an open mike on the table) that he thinks Sau is a great guy doing a wonderful job… just a bit radical on occasions, but still a great guy to work with. By the way, Clément Baur comes from the Val d’Oise. Just a coincidence.
