How to Influence Your Friends: Your delivery matters more than your political position

PROVO, Utah /PRNewswire/ — In past elections, our front yards, t-shirts, car bumpers and water cooler conversations proudly campaigned for the presidential candidate of our choice. In 2016, most are afraid to utter the name of the person they plan to vote for on November 8.

Research by Joseph Grenny and David Maxfield, cofounders of VitalSmarts and the authors of the business bestseller Crucial Conversations, shows that for 9 out of 10 people surveyed, the 2016 election is more polarizing and more volatile than ever before. One in 3 have been attacked, insulted or called names for sharing their opinions; and 1 in 4 have had a political discussion hurt a relationship.

And yet, Grenny and Maxfield’s latest study of 3,688 potential voters reveals that you don’t have to go silent or become the victim of someone’s verbal tirade—even when your opinion is the polar opposite of theirs. In fact, whether you agree or disagree with another person matters much less than how you share your opinion. Specifically, those who used four simple skills were:

  • 5 times more likely to be seen as diplomatic
  • 4 times more likely to be seen as likeable
  • 3 times more likely to be seen as knowledgeable
  • 140 percent more persuasive
  • 140 percent more likely to stay in dialogue with others
  • 180 percent more likely to maintain relationships with others

On the other hand, those who did not use the four skills when sharing their opinion were labeled by observers as “abrasive”, “unlikeable”, and “ignorant”—and these labels held true even when the observers had the SAME opinion as the unskilled individual. That’s right—even when you agree, if you do so in a disagreeable way, you risk alienating friends and ruining relationships.

“This research challenges the misconception that the only safe place in a political season is with people who agree with you,” Maxfield says. “The data clearly demonstrates that even if you agree with people, but in a way that is defensive, posturing or aggressive, it decreases the likelihood they’ll respect you. But express your opinions skillfully and you can associate with anyone.”

Grenny says this data is also vital for the candidates who risk alienating both their supporters and opponents each time they’re passed the microphone.

“This data explains a significant vulnerability for Trump who has demonstrated great volatility in the way he shares his position,” Grenny says. “If he is not more careful and respectful with his opinions, he risks losing his supporters—something we’ve recently observed with his drop in the polls. Neither candidate can assume their supporters will stay loyal. Clinton and Trump are always just one aggressive verbal slip-up away from losing the respect of those who support them today.”

Grenny and Maxfield say the key to successful political discussions is to make it safe for others to not only hear you, but share their own ideas. They recommend four simple skills for making it safe to engage in the political dialogue that historically has been key to American Democracy.

Four Simple Skills for Sharing Your Political Opinion:

1)  Focus on Learning: Frame your conversation as a chance to learn from each other not to change each other’s minds. Simply being curious about another’s position is sufficient motivation to engage. But, if you harbor a hope of converting the other person you’ll be tempted to become manipulative or coercive. That may sound like:

  • “I know what I think about immigration, but I’m curious about why you feel so differently. Would you be open to sharing your position with me?”
  • “I’m having a hard time seeing the other side of the story. I’d love your help in expanding my perspective…”

2)  Limit your Intent and Ask for Permission: Explain that you aren’t trying to change the person’s mind or attack their position. Then ask for permission to talk about the sensitive topic. That may sound like:

  • “I’m not wanting a debate, and I’m not trying to change your mind. I just want to understand. I see this issue very differently. Would it be okay if I explained my perspective?”
  • “I’d also like to share my thoughts and get your reaction, if you’re interested.”
  • “I’m fine steering clear of it if you’re not ready to go there. Can I explain how I see it?”

3)  Show Respect: Respect is like air, if you take it away, it’s all people can think about. Others will not engage with you if they don’t feel respected by you. Set the stage by over-communicating your respect for the other person and his or her opinion:

  • “I value you and your perspective. I want to hear from you. I don’t assume I’m right.”
  • “I would like the benefit of your perspective.”
  • “What have you experienced or learned that led you to feel that way?”

4)  Focus on Common Ground: Look for areas of agreement rather than disagreement. If or when the conversation takes a more dramatic turn, look for the greater principle governing both opinions and you’ll likely find a mutual purpose behind your convictions. Say things like:

  • “I want to find the goals we share, and then look at the issue with those goals in mind.”
  • “Sounds like for you this ties to lots of things that are also very important to me.”
  • “Can you help me understand why this matters so much to you?”

Open letter to Liberal Gov’t of Canada RE: Iran — Canada ties

When Canada decided to cut diplomatic ties with the Islamic Regime in Iran four years ago, many Iranian Canadians rejoiced that the Islamic Regime’s Embassy in Ottawa also known as the “House of Terror” would finally be shut down.

At the time many in the Iranian Canadian Community referred to the Embassy as the “House of Terror” because the Embassy served as an operation headquarters for attempts to spy on Canadians and manipulate public policy and opinion.  It identified and intimidated pro-democracy activists, with particular regard to Iranian Canadian dissidents whose families in Iran may have been vulnerable. Along with front organizations Embassy personnel penetrated our universities and some “students” boasting embassy connections warned campus democracy activists not to get out of line.

On the eve of the four (4) year anniversary of Canada breaking diplomatic ties with the Islamic Regime in Iran, the Iranian Canadian Congress (ICC) created a petition asking the Canadian Government to re-establish ties with the Islamic Regime in Iran and to re-open the embassy.

It is important to note that ICC does not represent the Iranian Canadian Community as a whole, but only a small numbers of Iranians most of them currently based in Toronto.  It is further important to note that while a fraction of our community may support the re-opening of the Islamic Regime Embassy in Ottawa, there is a large number of us who vehemently oppose it!

There is great concern among our community about Islamic Regime’s systematic human rights violations against women, students, journalists, workers, teachers, religious and ethnic minorities and political dissidents in Iran. We watch in horror as Islamic Regime continues to have one of the highest rates of executions in the world. We are horrified to watch our brothers and sisters as they are arrested, arbitrarily detained and tortured for peacefully protesting or standing up for their rights.

We are also extremely concerned about the health and well being of Iranian Canadians currently detained by the Islamic Regime in Iran, including Saeed Malekpour and Homa Hoodfar. As you are well aware Mr. Malekpour has been detained for over eight (8) years, while Ms. Hoodfar was arrested in June of this year and there are serious concerns with regards to her health.

Lastly as opponents of the Islamic Regime in Iran, and activists who campaigned for years for Canada to cut diplomatic ties with the Regime and shut down its embassy, we have serious concerns about the re-opening of the “House of Terror” and the effects that might have on our safety and safety of our families and friends in Iran, as well as our ability to peacefully oppose the Islamic Regime.

We are urging the Canadian Government to continue to take a strong stand against Iran’s human rights violations, and take into account the safety and security of Iranian Canadians living in Canada.  We urge Canada not to re-engage with Islamic Regime at a time when the Regime is holding Iranian Canadians hostage and brutalizing its own people.

It’s crucial for Canada to take a strong stand and make it clear to the Islamic Regime that torture, rape, public executions and hostage taking of dual citizens will not be rewarded by renewal of diplomatic relations and the re-opening of the Islamic Regime’s Embassy.

Trump supporters want ‘E Pluribus Basket’ printed on the $1 Bill — Hillary, Obama respond

It appears Hillary Clinton, from a hospital bed in an undisclosed location, has started a movement of her own. The movement is to replace E Pluribus Unum  on the $1 bill with E Pluribus Basket.

Brietbart’s Charlie Spiering in his column ‘Hillary Clinton’s 47% Moment: Calls Trump Supporters ’Racist, Sexist, Homophobic, Xenophobic, Islamophobic’” reported:

During a fundraiser in New York City Friday evening, Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton described half of the Americans supporting Donald Trump as a “basket of deplorables” made up of “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic” people.

Hillary’s basket of deplorables has led to Trump supporters using “were all in the same basket”, replacing the phrase “in the same boat” meaning in the same unfortunate circumstances as others, i.e. living the past eight years under the rule of a Democrat dictatorship.

Basket of deplorables has become the new normal.

According to a Trump campaign spokesperson:

Since Hillary’s “basket” comment we have been inundated with requests that President Trump sign an executive order requiring the U.S. Treasury Department to print E Pluribus Basket on all U.S. currency. We are taking these requests under consideration.

Americans from all walks of life relate to being “in the same basket.”

President Trump plans to undo the damage done by his predecessor on his first day in office. We will not be placing Americans in baskets, rather we will free our people from the basket plantations.

Out of many baskets we will unite in a new cornucopia of American greatness. Cornucopians unite!

U.S. american-eagle-tattooTattoo parlors are seeing an uptick in requests for E Pluribus Basket body art. The National Tattoo Association in a press release states,

Since Donald Trump began his campaign we have seen a rise in requests for Make America Great Again and now E Pluribus Basket tattoos. Trump has been good for our businesses and he hasn’t been elected yet.

The business of America is business! And business is good.

Hillary Clinton, speaking from her hospital bed, noted:

Certain Americans belong in baskets, cough. If elected President, cough,  I will begin building baskets and put those of a certain political persuasion into them.

We will call them “internment baskets” where those who don’t stand with me may be reprogrammed. Clearly we have basket cases, non-Democrats, who aren’t left thinking. We hope to change that under my presidency.

One mind centrally controlled will create a Utopian paradise where everyone stands with me, cough, cough, or else.

It takes a basket to make America small again!

President Obama at a Rose Garden press conference was asked about the E Pluribus Basket movement. Obama stated:

I have asked the Director of Homeland Security, the FBI and IRS to look into this movement. I am concerned anytime one wants to unite America rather than divide it.

I have made it a goal of my presidency to divide Americans into baskets of various colors. I have built the black basket, Muslim green basket, rainbow gay basket and my favorite the Karl Marx red I hate America basket. You didn’t build those baskets, no pun intended.

Making out of many one is counter to my policies and the goals of this administration.

We are looking at designating the E Pluribus Basket movement a hate group.

The Children of Abraham of the Southern Tier, an interfaith organization in Johnson City, has taken offense at the 9/11 memorial raised in the nearby Town of Owego, New York. This association of misguided multiculturalists and Muslim moderates allege that identifying the perpetrators of the worst individual act of aggression on American soil would encourage Muslim hatred, never once excoriating the very act that resulted in the death and injury to more than 3,000 American victims and 453 responders and boundless grief for their families and for all Americans.

Did the moderates ever attempt to apologize for the horrific crime that forced people to jump to their death rather than be burned alive? Did they express their sorrow for the victims and heroic rescue workers, or atone in a way to benefit the families that suffered such tragic loss? Do they even acknowledge that Islamic terrorists continue their march of evil, putting America and Europe on high alert for 9/11, or that this was part of Islam’s perpetual holy war against every living being on the planet. No.  And the city manager’s overtures were also snubbed.

The Muslim residents of Johnson City may be moderates who never take up a lethal weapon for Allah, but they are engaging in a subtle act of civilizational or settlement jihad. Such people are comparatively discreet in Western society, going about their lives inconspicuously, but effecting regime changes in gradual increments. By their refusal to acknowledge the obvious links between Islam and 9/11, they shield those who spew hatred against America, Israel and democracy; they empower the academics and students who vilify Israel and Jewish students on campus, and they facilitate the crossing of borders for hijra (conquest by increased population).  Under the guise of injured sensibilities, they insist on the removal of anything that may identify those who pursue our destruction and conquest with Islam, hoping to erase the ugly truth that fourteen centuries of barbarism continues unabated in every country where Islam is found.

terrorist-attacks-since-9-11They would have us believe that a tiny minority is to blame, but a recent Pew Research poll shows that 51 percent of American Muslims choose to be governed by sharia; 30% believe it is legitimate to use violence against those who insult Muhammed, the Koran, or Islam; 25 percent believe violence against Americans can be justified as part of the global jihad; and nearly 20% believe the use of violence in the US is justified in order to make sharia the law of the land. When presented with a choice when sharia conflicts with the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, 33% say sharia should be supreme. That’s some minority!  Politically, 48% are Democrats, 19 percent Independents, and 19 percent Republicans.

Islam already regulates our speech through our government, our media, and the constant hazard of being damned as Islamophobic to those who dare to speak up. They cover their tracks through leftist academics, a strong BDS movement, and textbooks crammed with indoctrinal and fallacious material.  Continuing along those lines, the Johnson City assemblage is working to remove from future knowledge the history of 9/11 that was carved into the granite. If we fail to yearly observe significant even
ts as the bombing of the World Trade Center, the signing of our Declaration of Independence, our victory in World War II, and more, our youth will be robbed of their identity, their heritage, and America as we know it.  Wisdom is defense. Ignorance of our journey through history is the greatest threat to our survival.

It should be noted that this interfaith group’s complaint was not that they, too, should have paid homage to America’s fallen or, specifically, to Owego’s citizen, Derek Statkevicus, who lost his life that day.  Neither were they inspired to erect a monument in their own city or to join Owego residents in a fight against the greatest scourge of mankind with its unspeakable crimes done in the name of their religion. Rather, they express a phony outrage that the criminals have been identified with Islam! Often enough, other Islamic groups attempt to blame 9/11 on American citizens, on Jews or Christians, but this one is working to eliminate the obvious first, to claim that the 19 were unknown, came out of nowhere, and bombed America for no specific reason.  Removing the offensive truth from the monument will leave room for revisionism later, just as Major Nidal Hassan (Fort Hood Massacre) was called anything but what he was, and his jihad massacre was officially named “workplace violence.”

Instead of condemnation or owning up to the demands for death inherent in the Koran, these individuals hope to gradually erase the event from our memory and from generations to come – just as Islamists have obliterated or renamed many artifacts and historic tombs to create their own narrative, just as their counterparts in Israel are trying to stop archaeological excavations from revealing more of Jewish history.  These Children of Abraham may well be the Islamic families that escaped tyranny but, unfortunately for the rest of us, they nurture their children with intolerance and harshness, creating a new, young generation of jihadists. These offspring may become the young men enticed online to join ISIS’ executioners, or the young women lured to sexual slavery for the Palestinian cause.

We must continue to remind ourselves of the anger, the tears, and the patriotism that were triggered that day of September 11th, fifteen years ago, and realize that we are in more danger now than ever before.  The Middle East has grown bolder and more violent. Islamists are acquiring newer, deadlier weapons, and more of their numbers are making their way into Europe, North and South America, bringing with them new plans to terrorize and infuse their way of life into ours. Islam has been at war with the world since the seventh century. Their holy book is a dedication to brutality and conquest, so that even their own people are condemned to grope in the darkness of oppression and poverty. In the name of their god, they must erase the past to support their own supersessionist narrative, and we must never oblige them.  The more that Americans accommodate such requests and attempt to correct or crush our own speech, the more power we will hand to them.  Unless we weigh the long-term ramifications of the growing adjustments we make to our lives for the sake of theirs, we will lose our freedoms to their tyrannical sharia laws.

In the words of Hassan al-Banna, creator of the Muslim Brotherhood (1929), “It is the nature of Islam to dominate, not to be dominated, to impose its laws on all nations and extend its laws to the entire planet.” If the hate feared by the Children of Abraham does arise, it will be because of Islamists’ deeds, not the attribution on a memorial stone.

Mormons helping Catholic Bishops fundamentally change America with Muslim refugees

Don’t ask me why. Don’t ask me why Mormons want to change Utah and America. Don’t ask me if the Mormons have run out of poor Americans to help. Don’t ask me if the Mormons know that almost all Syrians coming to the US are Muslims. Don’t ask me if they know that Syrians and Somalis can’t be properly vetted. Don’t ask me why the Catholic bishops don’t insist on resettling persecuted Christians.  It is all a great mystery.

What isn’t a great mystery is that the US Conference of Catholic Bishops Migration and Refugee Services is 97% taxpayer funded.

Does it need the Mormon money too? (I guess you can never have enough money.)

Here is the good news for the Bishops from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints:

WASHINGTON (CNS) — The U.S. bishops’ Migration and Refugee Services is receiving a $1.25 million grant from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to aid in its refugee resettlement efforts once the newcomers arrive in the United States.

The Mormons, as the denomination’s adherents are popularly known, have refugee processing capabilities overseas, said MRS executive director Bill Canny, but do not offer domestic resettlement services.

Canny told Catholic News Service that this is the first time in memory that the Mormons have made such a gift to an agency within the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, although Catholic Relief Services, the U.S. bishops’ overseas aid and development organization, has received grants from the Mormons dating to the Ethiopian famine more than 30 years ago.

Grants of this nature, of this size, Canny added, don’t often happen, “not often enough.”

Canny said the Mormons had conducted a successful fundraising drive to aid Syrian refugees. Afterward, “they then approached nine resettlement agencies***, offering each of them a gift to help with resettling refugees currently. So they got in touch with us as one of the resettlement agencies. We began to discuss how to distribute the money and the in-kind goods, and we wrote a small project for them, and they agreed to it and gave us the go-ahead.”

Of the $1.25 million, $425,000 is in cash while the remaining $800,000 is an in-kind contribution from the Mormons, according to Canny.

If you are checking my math, you need to add the federal grants line to the travel loan collection fees because those fees are really your money too.  The contractors collect the airfare loan money (that you loaned the refugees) and keep a cut of it for themselves. The loan money does not all return to the US Treasury.

By the way, individual Catholic Charities may be getting additional federal/state or local grants.  I suggest you visit USA Spending.gov and look up your local Catholic diocese or Catholic Charities. Click here. You will be amazed at what you find.

Cut off their federal funding and they would be out of business!

Latest Polls Agree: Clinton ahead of Trump 97%

REUTERS – The 97% number just pops up everywhere because it is a multiple result of everything that is true.

97% of scientists believe in global warming. The other 3% believe in climate change. And 97% of registered Democrats believe anything. 97% of organic gardeners and New Agers believe that Hillary will be the most competent president after Barack Obama who was more competent than George Washington and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. It is rumored that Ginsburg was more competent than president Béla Lugosi. And just as sane. 97% of Democrats believe ISIS has been contained and the 3% left believe that Trump has been contained. 100% of Democrats believe that Obamacare is cheaper today than it was in 1955. 97% of #NeverTrumpers believe that Mitt Romney has a great chance of beating Hillary of we let him run. And 3% of Democrats know that Joe Biden can beat Barry Goldwater.

3% of doctors dealing with brain disorders believe the Democratic contender is brain damaged. The other 97% are serving time in California for distributing an anti-brain-damage video about Hillary.

The polls clearly show that Donald Trump needs to explain the deleted emails from his secret server if he wanted the trust of the American people. 97% of all responders agree that Trump ought to stop lying about encountering sniper fire in Bosnia, and explain the money he received from foreign dictators. He also needs to apologize for raising in excess of six million dollars in a half hour for the veterans, with the sole purpose of embarrassing the Clinton Foundation that donated $5,000 for the whole year out of the Clinton’s great love for America. Clearly, Trump is no patriot.

97% of Democrats believe Trump is a cheapskate and Hillary will do everything for the downtrodden. To wit, Trump has in many ways shaped the skylines of such rich cities as New York City, Las Vegas, and Miami, while Hillary’s policies have shaped the skylines of such poor cities as Camden and Detroit. As a result, 97% of Hillary’s voters agree with Barack Obama regarding Trump or anyone else who achieved something in his life without gaming the system: YOU DIDN’T BUILD THAT!

DNC Distributing Red Liquid labeled ‘Coughing Medicine’ in Minority Neighborhoods

The Hillary Clinton 2016 campaign has partnered with the Democratic National Committee to distribute bottles containing a red liquid in minority neighborhoods. The bottle is labeled “HRC-1 coughing medicine.” Tests of the contents found that the bottles contain a red Kool-Aid like substance with an unknown addictive agent added. When rats are given this elixir they immediately go into convulsions and appear zombie like. They begin attacking other rats wearing Bernie Sanders t-shirts causing a feeding frenzy.

Bruce Wright in his International Business Times article “Latest Polls Trump vs Clinton: Hillary Losing Lead In Swing States As Black, Hispanic And Women Voters Play Major Role” reported:

Hillary Clinton’s polling lead over Donald Trump in several swing states is shrinking in part because of non-white and women voters, according to a new national poll. Florida, North Carolina, Ohio and Pennsylvania are up for grabs as the Democratic and Republican presidential nominees battle for supremacy in states that could prove to be the difference come Election Day.

A Hillary Clinton staffer, who asked to remain anonymous in fear of her life, said:

Hillary and Huma are in a panic mode. They are seeing their strangle hold on blacks slipping away.

In an effort to lockup, no pun intended, the black vote the campaign has produced millions of bottles of red Kool-Aid Coughing Medicine containing the secret ingredient HRC-1. Once blacks drink this elixir they immediately experience an addictive urge to Stand With Hillary.

Addiction is the only way we can keep the black vote on Hillary’s plantation.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in a statement noted:

The DNC coughing medicine containing the highly addictive compound HRC-1 has been fast tracked and deemed safe for use by black voters. Our test results showed that blacks, who consume HRC-1 in large quantities, exhibit behaviors that can only be described as “deplorable.” They become basket cases, no pun intended.

Our field tests on blacks found unusual side effects such as a uncontrollable need for free stuff and to join the Black Lives Matter movement.

However, we found that when HRC-1 is taken by Trump supporters there are no negative  side effects. Trump supporters remain loyal to America and dedicated to Making America Great Again.

We will begin field testing HRC-1 on Hispanic voters and expect to approve the use of this elixir before the November 8th, 2016 election.

Amaq News Agency, a propaganda arm of the Islamic State in a press release states:

The Hillary Clinton campaign has provided bottles of coughing medicine, containing HRC-1 to our soldiers of Allah in the United States (the Great Satan).

We have found that by drinking HRC-1 our soldiers become more aggressive and willing to martyr themselves for Mohammad, may peace be upon him.

Our soldiers have discovered that slipping a little HRC-1 into a black girls drink works great on dates. It turns black women into willing sex slaves. On Hillary Clinton’s ‘Basket of Deplorables’

Hours later, Hillary Clinton spoke at an LGBT fundraiser where she indirectly referenced the Summit and smeared half of Donald Trump supporters as belonging to a “basket of deplorables.”

How Phyllis Schlafly profoundly changed America

She created the modern pro-family movement and was its greatest activist. Her book changed the Republican party. What most pro-family conservatives today probably don’t know…

Phyllis Schlafly, who passed away at age 92 this week, actually created the pro-family movement. She was the greatest and most successful pro-family activist in its history. That is not hyperbole; it is fact. Everyone else is miles behind. We at MassResistance are grateful to have known her and occasionally worked with her.

Unfortunately, most pro-family conservatives under a certain age really don’t know that much about her, or appreciate the enormity of her contributions, which continued up until her death. In our opinion, the numerous obituaries in the conservative and mainstream media about her haven’t done her justice.

A revolution within the GOP

She broke into national prominence in 1964 by publishing a book. Titled “A Choice, Not an Echo” It brilliantly described how for decades the GOP establishment and donor class had been selling out the principles held by average Republican voters and controlling the political process. It’s chilling to realize how much similar it was to the situation that has fueled the rise of Donald Trump’s campaign in 2016. She saw the problem clearly back in the 60s.

At first she felt no publisher would take the book, so she sold it out of her garage. It really caught on, eventually selling over 3 million copies. It changed the history of the Republican Party.

“A Choice Not an Echo” is credited by many with igniting much of the Republican voter base and propelling Barry Goldwater’s nomination for president in 1964 over the will of the party establishment, and opening the door for Ronald Reagan’s run. Her book was that powerful.

Stopping the radical ERA from transforming America

But Phyllis (everyone we knew called her by her first name) is best known for her work stopping the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in the 1970s and early 1980s.

Today, many pro-family activists take on big causes. But no one else ever took on anything like the ERA single-handedly and won.

Constitutional amendments must pass two-thirds of both houses of Congress, and then three-quarters of the state legislatures (38 states) within seven years after that.

The Equal Rights Amendment was considered by everyone to be impossible to stop. In 1971 it blew through the US House of Representatives by 354-24. It then passed the Senate by 84-8. In 1972 was sent to the states for ratification. Within the first year, 30 state legislatures had ratified it. It was on a very fast track to become a Constitutional amendment.

Phyllis could see that the ERA was being sold to Americans as a noble “equal rights” cause, but it was really a Trojan horse being pushed by the most radical elements of society, particularly lesbian activists.

In her correct analysis, the ERA would be used to draft women for the military, force taxpayer-funded abortions and homosexual “marriage”, promote a constitutionally mandated breakdown of Judeo-Christian morality, push a new sexual revolution, re-write divorce laws, and much more. Far from helping women, it would make women’s lives much, much worse.

Women are different from men, she said, and “feminism” is a false ideology that tries to make man and women the same.

Straight talk. A key part of her attack was that unlike the wimpy mainstream pro-family movement of today, Phyllis was willing to tell the sordid, uncomfortable truth about the ERA and forces behind it – calmly, unemotionally, and fearlessly – refusing to water it down into mushy platitudes. This infuriated the Left and annoyed the establishment Republicans. She was definitely not “politically correct.”

The forces that lined up aggressively promoting the ERA were overwhelming. This included the full Democratic and Republican establishments, including enthusiastic support from Presidents Gerald Ford and later Jimmy Carter,  and their wives. It included virtually all of Hollywood, with major TV and movie stars doing endorsements, support from major corporations, and of course aggressive support by the entire mainstream media.

Like many conservatives, Phyllis was hated by the Left with a visceral passion. During her anti-ERA battle she was screamed at, swore at, spat on, had things thrown at her, and even had pig’s blood poured on her. The infantile emotions of liberals haven’t changed at all. The fact that she routinely out-debated them made it even worse!

It had eerie similarities to today’s huge “culture war” battle.

In 1972 Phyllis began her fight to stop the ERA. She was not only an incredibly articulate writer, speaker, and political thinker, but she was also an unbelievable organizer. She brought together and mobilized a very formidable army of thousands of women, mostly housewives, from across the country. This was before the Internet or even fax machines existed! And she taught them how to go to their state legislatures and lobby strategically and effectively despite the opposing them. Legislators had never seen anything like it.

She also created hard-hitting pamphlets, wrote countless newspaper columns, gave speeches across the country, and appeared on numerous television interview shows — usually against a stacked deck, but still coming out on top.

Over the next eight years, five more states ratified ERA. But also during that time five other states – under pressure from Phyllis and her forces – rescinded their ratifications.

A year before the 1979 deadline Congress voted to extend the ratification deadline three more years, until June 30, 1982! But it didn’t work. The Schlafly army kept enormous pressure on any other states from ratifying it.

In the end, the ERA fell short by three states.

The larger story of this impossible victory is really fascinating for activists today.In 2009 Phyllis made this exciting video discussing it in detail. (It’s 43 minutes long, but worth watching.)

Creating the modern pro-family movement in America

The ERA battle and was the beginning of the modern pro-family movement in America.

Then as now, the Left  had enormous, seemingly limitless funding. Phyllis and her group, called the Eagle Forum had only what the members could pull together. They paid for their own travel and supplies.

Phyllis had an almost supernatural ability to focus on success. This is a quality that is almost completely lacking in today’s pro-family movement, which seems to fold its tent at the first sign of trouble.

In the 1980s, the Moral Majority, Christian Coalition, Focus on the Family, and other groups organized nationally and took on political battles – and more large national pro-family groups blossomed in the 1990s. But Phyllis had paved the way. And none of those other groups has changed America the way she did.

The Eagle Forum

After the stunning victory over ERA, Phyllis Schlafly’s Eagle Forum organization blossomed. It has chapters across America and at one point, according to reports, had nearly 100,000 members. Over the years, Phyllis would tirelessly visit chapters around the country and speak at their banquets and work with their leaders.

Interestingly, the chapters had and still have a reputation for being much more “moderate” and non-confrontational in their approach to political action than Phyllis herself, although they are completely loyal to her ideas and philosophy and do not compromise on core pro-family principles.

This is probably because the women who take on the chapter leadership positions tend to be more “organizers” rather than firebrands, and are often married to wealthy husbands who can help with the chapter’s expenses. This is completely understandable, but has sometimes caused confusion to other conservatives expecting a more aggressive approach. And as a result, the chapters have rarely been as successful as Phyllis herself in stopping destructive liberal forces.

We believe that her independent approach also allowed Phyllis to build an independent fundraising network outside of the unreliable and mushy “mainstream” pro-family donor community.

Making the Republican Party pro-life

A lot of people today just assume that the Republican Party has always been pro-life. But after the Supreme Court abortion decision in 1973, the GOP establishment had little interest taking a stand. The pro-life platform was predominately the force of will of Phyllis Schlafly, who attended every GOP national convention since 1952, and got her people on the platform  committee.

As the “culture wars” began to heat up in the 1990s, Phyllis never seemed to fit in with the emerging national pro-family establishment in America. And she was rarely invited to their national conferences or asked to participate in major events or planning sessions.

We consider that a mark of high distinction for Phyllis. It appears to us that she recognized that the national pro-family movement had become like the GOP establishment – a double-dealer to its supporters. Over time the pro-family “establishment” has consistently compromised the core principles of the larger base. It’s happened on homosexuality, civil unions, gay marriage, comprehensive sex-ed, and most recently transgenderism. They do it to appease the more moderate conservative donor class and avoid confrontations with the LGBT movement and the liberal media. Phyllis has consistently refused to play that dishonest game.

That “mild” approach would never have won the ERA battle. Phyllis never wavered on her core principles on any of the increasingly incendiary “culture war” issues. Instead, she held her own annual pro-family conference where she took on the issues she felt important, honored the politicians who deserved honor, and did it her way.

MassResistance and other front-line groups

Especially in the last 15 years (while she continued her heavy schedule of writing books, newspaper columns, and newsletters, Phyllis was a beacon of steadfast core pro-family and constitutional principles in a sea of compromise and uncertainty.

She aligned with true conservative politicians, not just the popular GOP luminaries. She welcomed and supported the work of front-line pro-family groups, including MassResistance, and numerous pro-life first-time political candidates.

Brian Camenker of MassResistance met her in 1997 when she came to Boston and gave him a special award for “dedicated work for God, Family, and Country” at her Eagle Forum annual banquet.

She later interviewed Camenker on her national radio show.  Camenker also worked with her at a national gathering in Washington, DC in 2006. She received the regular MassResistance email updates and occasionally emailed us a comment on them. She personally donated to MassResistance – quite thrilling in itself.

In 2009 she invited Camenker to be a featured presenter at her annual conference in St. Louis on the topic of “How to counter the radical homosexual extremist movement.”

How many “mainstream” pro-family groups would dare talk about this?

An intellectual dynamo until the end

Most people slow down when they become elderly. But Phyllis was an exception. She never missed a beat. Through her eighties she continued to be a forceful and dynamic speaker on the college circuit – often taking considerable abuse from “liberal” audiences while continuing to dish it out.

Right up until her death she continued to write books, columns, and articles that were simply outstanding. And it’s utterly amazing to watch the videos her interviews of her sharp analysis of current events from even weeks before her passing.

And the liberals hated her even in death. The Boston Globe called her “polarizing.” The wave of hateful and odious tweets and posts from the mindless liberal pundits and celebrities is a testament to her power over them.

There will never be another Phyllis Schlafly. She was the best. RIP.

Intelligence Officer Wants Answers From Comey

Letter from Jim McKinney, recently retired Army Foreign Area Officer.

Dear Director Comey,

I respectfully ask you to please clarify some things for me, and for the tens of thousands of security professionals who serve our nation every day. In reference to the former Secretary of State Clinton’s private email server, I read on CNN that you claimed in a memo that “…there really wasn’t a prosecutable case.”   Would your position stand for me if I had done the same?

I am a retired intelligence officer. If I ordered my staff to place an un-cleared private server in my home, had them forward my official government emails to that server, used unsecure remote devices to access that server, wouldn’t I be in violation of law or government security policies? If in those emails, held on that server, I either received or sent classified material, knowingly or unknowingly, wouldn’t I be in violation of the National Security Act? Wouldn’t I be risking national security? If my predecessors did the same would that exonerate me, or them?

I served as a Senior Defense Official/Defense Attaché during Secretary Clinton’s tenure, twice as a Security Assistance Officer at US Embassies, and in Counter-Terror and Special Operations organizations. I served in some of our nation’s most sensitive programs under the NSA, the NRO, and I worked with the CIA, FBI, Treasury and allied nations routinely. In 2013, I received the National Intelligence Award from the Director of National Intelligence, GEN Clapper, for intelligence operations.

I was also trained as a Special Security Officer (SSO) in the control and handling of classified material. In fact, the FBI SSO was in my SSO training class at the Defense Intelligence Agency. Her training was the same as mine. She was a good student, and honorable person.  I am pretty sure the FBI, as with all U.S. government agencies, still keeps a pretty tight handle on classified information.

A few years ago, a State Department colleague was given a security “violation” from our Embassy’s regional security officer – 2 or more “violations” will get you relieved. He wrote the 4-digit code to his door on a sticky note in his wallet, in Chinese.

His door was behind three locked doors, a Marine Guard detachment, a guarded exterior gated wall and video surveillance – all to protect Confidential (C) and Secret (S) data in locked safes, often sent from HQ in SEC Clinton’s name. A little extreme, but this security violation met security requirements under then SEC Clinton.

From all my experience, all my professional training, and all my expectations that our leaders would do the right thing to protect the security of our nation and the integrity of our government, I am confident I would be removed from my position, my clearance would be suspended, I would face prosecution and a likely conviction if I acted the same as SEC Clinton. I hope this would be the case for anyone.

What changed in three years since I retired? Has Congress changed our national security laws to allow incompetence? Has our government changed so much that we are now willing to provide exceptions in handling our most sensitive relations with foreign governments?

I am one of those “…people no longer in government…” you referenced as chest beating. I am not chest beating. I am truly trying to understand. I wonder why you had to send a memo to your staff to explain your decision. Shouldn’t it stand on its own? I wonder why you referenced former government officials. Do former government officials have no knowledge of these lenient new laws, or no right to speak? Is this a warning to those still in government service to toe the line?

You are an intelligent man. You must understand that by sending such a memo you are indirectly (or directly) sending a message to your staff to shut up and follow, regardless of their legal knowledge of the rules for handling classified materials and national security.

There is grave danger when a leader enforces loyalty over integrity. It’s not the best form of leadership. Loyalty over integrity undermines organizations, and it undermines confidence in government.

For me, every policy I followed, every risk to life I took, and everything I defended under five presidents is called into question with your decision to not recommend penalties for one of our national leader’s negligent acts.

How do I, and many Americans, keep faith in our government if there is such an appearance of gross inequality in our justice system on such a grand scale? I would humbly like to know. Your people in the FBI need to know. Those risking their lives for this nation today, and every day, need to know.

Overcoming Evil Anti-Police Rhetoric with Good

The myth that America suppresses blacks is a poison which has infected the minds of far too many Americans. Biracial NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick won liberal media praise and thumbs down from many Americans when he said he would not stand for our National Anthem because America suppresses blacks. TV reality show star black preacher, Jamal Bryant, wore a Kaepernick football jersey while encouraging his huge black church congregation to sit with Kaepernick in not standing for our National Anthem. Reverend Bryant is furthering the Left’s lie that blacks are suffering in a hellhole of racism called America.

The Democratic party, mainstream media, public education and Hollywood all promoting the lie that America suppresses and cops murder blacks birthed Black Lives Matter terrorism. The hate group feels justified in seeking revenge; physically attacking whites and assassinating police.

My three black brothers are Christians active in their churches. One brother who lives in Maryland said most Baltimore black churches have jumped on the hate-America-bandwagon and places the Democratic party agenda above all else.

My brother attended a conference of Baltimore black churches. One of the topics discussed was their concern that the federal government is redefining what constitutes a church. The consensus was after the election, they will need to hire lawyers to defend their right to practice their faith according to the Bible and keep their 501c3 status. My brother said the pastors and religious leaders in attendance know the relentless assault on religious freedom is coming from the Democratic party and will intensify if Hillary is elected. And yet, he knows the majority of Baltimore’s black pastors and religious leaders will vote democrat.

Never one to mince his words, my brother stood and asked, “Why vote for a candidate that you know you will have to hire lawyers to defend you against them?”

My brother said everyone looked at him as though he had two heads. He was scorned for sounding like a Republican. Clearly, far too many in the black church have a stronger commitment to the Democratic party than they do to Jesus Christ.

The same brother’s wife is a retired Baltimore police officer. He and his wife spent Labor Day at a cookout at the home of one of her longtime friends. Her friend is one of the black cops acquitted in the Freddie Gray case. My brother said everyone at the cookout passionately defended their falsely accused relative. And yet, they failed to see the connection between their police officer relative being falsely accused and the Democrat’s political agenda. My brother suspects that most of the guests at the all black cookout favor Hillary. He expressed his frustration with attempting to get these politically blind people to see.

Folks, what this all amounts to is evil; people sowing lies about whites, lies about cops and lies about America; the greatest land of opportunity on the planet for all who choose to go for it.

Trump in Mexico Recalls Reagan in Geneva by Phyllis Schlafly

trump-poll-commander-in-chief-forumDonald Trump’s surprise visit to Mexico, where he met the Mexican president and discussed the many contentious issues between our two countries, reminds me of President Reagan’s important trip to Geneva in 1985. Reagan was more than willing to sit down with the Communist leader in an effort to build a personal connection between the two men without sacrificing America’s vital interests in the Cold War.

The 1985 Geneva summit was highly advertised as a potential showdown between Reagan and Gorbachev, the supposedly reasonable new Soviet leader. When it was over, Americans realized that behind Reagan’s genial affability was a steely determination to protect our country against the threat from Soviet nuclear missiles.

Just as today’s mainstream media is bent on undermining Trump’s call to put Americans first in our dealings with Mexico, the media of the 1980s (led by ABC’s Sam Donaldson and CBS’s Dan Rather) were overwhelmingly pro-Gorbachev and anti-Reagan in their daily coverage.

Left-wing celebrities from around the world converged on Geneva to support the media narrative that a stubborn President Reagan was refusing to consider Gorbachev’s reasonable proposals for world peace. Congresswoman Bella Abzug, actress Jane Alexander and the inevitable Jesse Jackson were giving daily interviews.

I led a delegation of 25 distinguished women leaders to Geneva to support Reagan and American nuclear superiority. The media didn’t give us much coverage, but President Reagan telephoned me afterwards from the White House to thank me for our support.

Reagan had been elected on a promise to “win” the Cold War against the Communist forces arrayed against America. Before Reagan, our country’s foreign policy was controlled by men like Henry Kissinger, who thought victory was impossible and that his job, as he famously told Admiral Zumwalt, was “to negotiate the most acceptable second-best position” for the United States.

After three decades of steady deterioration of America’s place in the world, Trump is the first candidate since Reagan who is comfortable using Reagan’s vocabulary of winning. Trump has pledged to make America “win” again, instead of being cheated and outmaneuvered by our adversaries and even our so-called allies.

Trump’s visit to Mexico recalls Reagan’s trip to Geneva in other ways, too. At both meetings, there was one signature position on which the American refused to budge.

Reagan’s no-surrender pledge was his unwavering commitment to the Strategic Defense Initiative, that is, to build and deploy a system to shoot down Soviet nuclear missiles headed for our cities. With Trump, it’s his rock-solid promise to build “an impenetrable physical wall” on our southern border.

Both Reagan’s and Trump’s signature ideas were purely defensive weapons to which no country could have any legitimate complaint. Reagan’s SDI was a non-nuclear weapon whose only function was to destroy or deflect incoming nuclear missiles.

Reagan stuck to that non-negotiable position at the summit with Gorbachev the following year in Reykjavik, Iceland. As we now know, that’s when Gorby realized he could never win an open competition with the United States, so that his “acceptable second-best position” was the dissolution of the USSR over the next five years.

Likewise, Donald Trump’s wall is not a provocative, but a neighborly idea to stop the rampant illegality that harms both nations along the U.S.-Mexico border. With no legitimate objection to erecting a fence, wall or other physical barrier between our two countries, Mexico should be grateful for Trump’s leadership and even agree to help pay for it.

The value of a wall begins with stopping “murderers” and “rapists” from freely entering and re-entering our country with impunity, as Trump mentioned when he announced the start of his campaign last year, but it doesn’t stop there. Felony assault by motor vehicle is another deadly crime that seems to be rampant by illegal aliens driving recklessly without the licenses or insurance that law-abiding Americans take for granted.

The wall would also stop the plague of heroin that has exploded during the last few years of the Obama administration. Deaths from heroin overdoses surpassed deaths from car crashes last year and will hit a new record this year. Most U.S. heroin is delivered by Mexicans working for the drug cartels.

Of course, most Mexican immigrants are not murderers, rapists, drunk drivers or drug dealers. But even the good, hard-working people who come here from south of the border, both legally and illegally, have such low education and skills that they can’t survive economically without massive public subsidies to provide for the care, food, shelter, health care, education and welfare of their children.

Voters finally have the opportunity to choose a president who will make America first by securing our border and ending one-sided trade deals that favor foreign workers rather than our own. Trump’s strong stance in his meeting with the Mexican president demonstrates that Donald Trump is the “choice, not an echo.”

Black Republican Surrogates Like Pastor Mark Burns Need a Permanent Timeout

I am really getting fed up with the constant drumbeat of criticism of Donald Trump’s campaign, especially the criticism coming from Black Republicans. They seem to be willing to give President Obama, Hillary Clinton and our party’s leadership a pass, but when it comes to Trump, all of a sudden, they seem to have found an untapped reservoir of righteous indignation.

Yes, Trump has given his opponents plenty of reason and opportunity to criticize him, but in some ways Trump reminds me of NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan.

Anyone who followed Jordan’s career knows that he was not a good teammate. He was intensely critical of many of his teammates, especially when they made mistakes. Some people thought he was arrogant and sometimes even condescending to his teammates. Let’s just say he had an extremely healthy dose of his own self-worth.

But these same teammates that talked privately and anonymously to the media about Jordan were filled with effusive praise for Jordan when it came to the number of championship rings he helped them win.

So to my Never-Trumpers, in general, and the Black ones in particular, can you really make a philosophical and substantive argument that Hillary Clinton would be a better president than Trump;, especially when it comes to the Black community?

Clinton wants to give amnesty to those in the country illegally, but no one ever talks about the devastating negative impact of this policy or the effect of current immigration policies on the Black unemployment rate for low and under-skilled Blacks. Trump is the only candidate to make this argument during this whole election cycle.

Clinton wants to continue to relegate Blacks to non-performing schools versus allowing parents to take their tax dollars to whatever school they deem best for their child, even though Clinton, Obama, and most members of the Congressional Black Caucus opted for private schools for their kids. That’s not racist? Trump is a huge supporter of school choice.

These same Blacks are the ones who continue to ignorantly promote the notion that Republicans must and should speak before Democratic groups like the National Urban League, the NAACP, or the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ).

This is extremely insulting to me as a fellow Black Republican, but it is far easier for them to complain about Trump rather than provide a group of Black Republicans for Trump to engage with. We don’t need the above liberal Democratic groups to validate our leaders or to prove that they are not racists.

Following their logic, White Republicans must speak before radical pro-homosexual groups like the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) in order to prove that Republicans are not homophobic, yet no one makes this argument.

It seems that only when it comes to the Black vote do Black Republicans demand that we pay homage to those who are part of the Democratic base in order to reach out to the Black community.

Memo to the Trump campaign and the GOP: You have to start working with Black Republicans who have significant political experience and institutional memory about the party if you want to move the Black community towards the Republican party in this and future election cycles.

If you don’t believe me or you don’t want to recognize my argument, then I simply submit to you the past two weeks of constant embarrassing media appearances by supposed Black surrogates from the Trump campaign and the Republican Party as exhibit A.

This is what happens when you want to hire people who you are “comfortable” with versus those who know what the hell they are doing.

Whenever a surrogate is getting more exposure than the principal (South Carolina preacher Mark Burns), there is a problem. Whenever a campaign has to explain away something a surrogate said or did, there is a problem. Whenever the media questions the party credentials or lack thereof of a surrogate, there is a problem.

The Republican Party needs to bring the Black Republican adults onto the scene or these media debacles will continue and we will most assuredly lose the presidential election.

No longer can the Republican Party hire Blacks simply for race insurance. This is about winning the “race” for the White House, not hiring simply because of race. In my columns, over the past four years, I have warned that we would come to this impasse.

But as opposed to embracing my message, the party was too busy attacking me and attempting to discredit me for “being too critical” of the party.

Maybe those Black Republicans who have the requisite experience and institutional memory should simply self-identify as a Black Democrat; then MAYBE the party will recognize them!

Illegal aliens leaving Arizona going to Canada if Trump elected — Obama, Trump, Hillary respond

Illegal alien family caught by the U.S. Border Patrol at the Canadian border trying to leave the United States.

Illegal immigrants are boycotting Arizona by the thousands and moving elsewhere – showing their outrage with Donald Trump’s proposed policy of sending them back to their native countries.

Trump’s political position to make Americans first and build a wall on the Southern border threatens the livelihoods of drug traffickers, the coyotes bringing illegals into the state and those who make signs in Spanish and English.

In the small town of Guadalupe, Arizona, south of Phoenix, Manuel Renaldo is one of those vowing to punish Arizona by leaving.

As he loaded his stolen car with his taxpayer-furnished belongings and family of ten, Renaldo told a local reporter through an interpreter, “It’s a matter of principle; I refuse to be supported by a state that treats me like a criminal!”

The effects of the exodus are already being felt by Arizona retailers, who are reporting a dramatic decrease in thefts and dwindling sales of beer, tequila, spray paint, guns and ammunition. Also hit hard are the state hospitals, which have reported a dramatic decline in births and emergency room visits. School rooms are half empty as illegals take their children and head elsewhere.

State and federal welfare agencies are preparing to lay off staff that distribute food stamps and unemployment benefits. Tattoo parlors are in an absolute state of panic!

Renaldo told a reporter that “he and his family are moving to Canada, with a new Liberal government under Justin Trudeau.” Canada’s new higher taxes and hardworking Canadians, can “better support him and treat his family with dignity!” said Renaldo.

President Obama in a hastily called press conference at the White House stated,

The Department of Homeland Security is seeing an increase in the numbers of illegals crossing the border headed to Canada. We are detaining them and returning them to Arizona.

Those leaving are fearful that under a Trump presidency they will no longer get free stuff.

We can’t let those here illegally leave. Think of all of the federal government jobs that will be lost! It would be chaos. No more food stamps, free medical care and the firing of thousands of Spanish speaking teachers all across America.

As the illegal voter goes so goes the base of the Democratic Party.

Hillary Clinton during a campaign stop in Phoenix noted, “Cough, cough, cough, cough. I will provide free, cough, education for, cough, cough, Renaldo and his family, cough, cough, cough. We need wetbacks like him to stand with me, cough.” Hillary concluded with a definitive cough.

Donald Trump at a packed rally in Flagstaff with Sheriff Joseph Michael “Joe” Arpaio, from Maricopa County, noted, “I am pleased that Manual is getting the message. Sheriff Joe will save tons of money by not having to buy black and white striped jump suits for the Renaldo family and their many friends. We are already saving taxpayers millions and I haven’t even been elected yet.”

Arpaio, known as America’s toughest Sheriff, said, “With all of the illegals gone I can now concentrate on making Maricopa County safe again! I will have more room in my prison for Hillary and Bill Clinton. Like Motel 6 we’ll leave the lights on for them.”
