Congressman Byron Donalds earns Christian Family Coalition Florida’s Highly Qualified rating

MIAMI, Florida / PRNewswire — Christian Family Coalition (CFC) Florida is pleased to announce that Congressman Byron Donalds has been rated Highly Qualified to become Florida’s next Governor.

“For years, CFC Florida’s voter guides have been educating voters on which candidates represent their common-sense Christian values. We thank Byron Donalds for taking the time to answer our questions and for supporting policies that will keep Florida free,” said CFC Florida Founder and Executive Director Anthony Verdugo.

CFC Florida does not endorse candidates but determines if they are highly qualified based on how their positions align with common-sense Christian values upon which this nation was founded as well as on their ability to raise the money needed to run an effective campaign.

“Faith in Jesus Christ has been an extremely important part of my life. Not only has it saved and transformed me, but it has been the guiding light throughout my political career,” said Byron Donalds. “I thank the Christian Family Coalition for giving me their highly qualified rating, which I believe is a testament to the conservative principles I have always stood for and will continue to defend as Governor of the great state of Florida.”

The Christian Family Coalition (CFC) Florida is a human-rights and social justice advocacy public policy organization dedicated to promoting and defending religious freedom, the sanctity of human life, and parental rights.

Byron Donalds is a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives, serving Florida’s 19th Congressional District since 2021. In 2025, he announced his candidacy for governor of Florida in the 2026 election while continuing to serve in Congress.

Florida Just Showed Us How to Fight Back Against Media Blacklists

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis put his signature on the state’s new budget last week and tucked inside is a provision worth celebrating.

State agencies in Florida are now barred, for a second straight year, from hiring advertising firms that use “misinformation” ratings to decide which news outlets deserve ad dollars and which don’t.

I’ll be upfront with you: I’m a co-founder of the Independent Media Council, the coalition that has pushed hard for this policy, precisely because I’ve seen how media blacklists are used against conservative outlets like the Daily Signal.

How NewsGuard Monitors Media

My enthusiasm for such a provision comes not only from my personal experience, but also because the underlying problem is real and getting worse with the growing use of AI agents.

Outfits like NewsGuard, Ad Fontes Media, and the Global Disinformation Index built businesses around slapping scores on news organizations—supposedly measuring “reliability” or “brand safety.” Their scoring system functions as a censorship mechanism, giving advertising firms an excuse to spend money with left-leaning outlets while starving conservative and independent publishers of revenue.

The people running these rating operations aren’t neutral referees. The Media Research Center has published multiple studies documenting that NewsGuard’s scores consistently favor left-of-center outlets over their conservative counterparts.

One such analysis found NewsGuard awarded left-leaning outlets an average score of 91 out of 100, compared to just 66 for conservative outlets. An organization with that kind of lopsided grading has no business telling anyone which news outlets to trust.

It’s precisely what we’ve experienced at the Daily Signal, and it’s why I’m grateful to DeSantis for signing a budget that puts an end to this practice.

Momentum Is Building Against Blacklists

Florida lawmakers have given other states a model to follow. For the second straight year, those lawmakers wrote the anti-censorship provision into the state budget, making Florida one of the first government entities to acknowledge that taxpayer money shouldn’t be used to blacklist media outlets.

“By signing this provision for a second year, Florida is sending a clear message that taxpayer-funded advertising should be focused on reaching the broadest possible audience, not filtered through politically motivated media blacklist systems,” Christine Czernejewski, spokesperson for the Independent Media Council, said in a statement.

The ripple effects are already visible beyond Tallahassee.

Earlier this year, West Virginia passed its own First Amendment Preservation Act to guard against the same kind of government-enabled viewpoint discrimination. Congress has included similar language in the National Defense Authorization Act, cutting off the Pentagon’s ability to funnel huge sums of ad spending through firms that use these biased scoring systems.

Under the direction of Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew N. Ferguson, the FTC announced in April that it was taking action against the advertising industry’s practices, including how merger reviews and enforcement actions touch on viewpoint-based discrimination.

These steps collectively point to a positive trend after years of complaints by conservative media outlets.

A Fight With National Consequences

The truth is that a rigged system doesn’t just hurt conservative media; it harms every publisher and creator who isn’t part of the legacy media establishment that these rating agencies seem to favor.

More states should now follow Florida’s example—and the IMC is intent on making that a reality.

“What began as a first-in-the-nation effort is increasingly becoming a national movement,” Czernejewski said. “Policymakers across the country are recognizing that government advertising dollars should not be used to subsidize censorship or reward organizations that discriminate based on viewpoint.”

I’ve seen firsthand what it costs when these blacklists go unchecked—and I’ve also seen what’s possible when lawmakers finally decide taxpayer dollars shouldn’t be part of the problem.

The rest of the country is watching—it’s time to act.

DeSantis hints Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and other groups could soon be declared terrorist groups

Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have both declared CAIR and Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist organizations.

This new legislation, HB 1471, is a step forward on protecting Florida from the advancing Sharia. Less than three months ago, DeSantis said that police were “working already” to treat CAIR as a terror group, and stated that he wanted to prevent money going to jihad. That should be a given and prioritized by Western leaders across the board. And that will involve the designation of other organizations as terror groups, including but by no means limited to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

“DeSantis announces CAIR Florida as a domestic terrorist group under new law,” by Mitch Perry, Florida Phoenix, July 2, 2026:

Q TAMPA — Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Wednesday that he has received a recommendation to designate the Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR) Florida, the Muslim Brotherhood, and Antifa as domestic terrorist organizations.

He cited authority given to state officials through legislation that had gone into effect just hours earlier.

The law (HB 1471) passed by the Legislature and signed by the governor in March, empowers the head of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to label organizations as domestic or foreign terrorist groups on evidence they meets specific criteria, including engagement in terrorist activity as defined by Florida law; is based in Florida; and poses an ongoing threat to the security of Florida or the United States.

The measure requires the head of the FDLE (now Mark Glass) to give written notice to the governor and the Cabinet of plans to declare the designation and gives the Cabinet seven days from the date of the receipt of written notice to approve or reject the designation.

Speaking during a press conference held at the Tampa Office of Statewide Prosecution less than 13 hours after the law went into effect, DeSantis said that the state has received recommendations to designate more than 90 groups as foreign terrorist organizations, including but not limited to Cartel de Sinaloa; Tren de Aragua; the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran (IRGC); Cartel del Noreste; and Cartel del Golfo…..

EXCLUSIVE: Islamification Becomes Public Enemy No. 1

Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., told the Daily Signal that a recent campaign poll of his found many of his constituents view the rise of “Islamification” and Islamic rule as a top concern.

As stated by Fine, respondents prioritized the issue above topics such as abortion, health care, and the conflict involving Iran.

“I had to fight with my pollster, because no one ever asks about the rise of radical Islam in America, and I wanted it placed in my survey,” Fine said. “It was one of the largest issues people rated. My constituents believe it concerned them more than the war in Iran, abortion, and more.”

Separately, he referenced remarks by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, claiming the mayor had expressed sympathy for a Hamas sniper. The mayor in February also called for a broader acceptance of the “Prophet Mohammed” on Islamic migration.

“Look, the history of Islam is one of conquest,” Fine said, describing why he believes the issue resonates with certain voters.

Rep. Keith Self, R-Texas, told the Daily Signal that concerns raised by Fine are among the reasons he co-founded the Sharia-Free America Caucus. Self said the group aims to educate lawmakers and the public about what he described as the risks of Sharia law.

“We are educating ourselves, our constituents, and our wider audience,” Self said. “We believe in the values of this country, [and] we believe in capitalism and our Christian foundations. We are a very forgiving country.”

Self argued that without continued focus on the issue, the perceived threat could grow.

“[We see] the rape gangs uncovered in the U.K., killing your daughter because she dishonored the family, and more,” Self said. “We do not want that to come to America.”

A recent report from Rupert Lowe MP noted that at least 250,000 Christian white girls in the United Kingdom have been raped in the 21st century, 83% of whom have been victims of Islamic rape gangs. According to testimonies outlined in the report, the survivors revealed that their rapists believed they had a religious duty to conduct the act.

“Our efforts will continue,” Self added. “We continue to grow slowly. We will have a planning session soon to outline what we think we can encourage governors to do—things we will recommend to governors and states to ask for their help, because they can do more than us in most cases.”

States like Texas and Florida have taken initiatives that the federal government has failed to take, such as designating the Council on American-Islamic Relations as a terrorist organization for its controversial financial trail and involvement in advocating for Sharia.

States like Indiana could soon follow, Indiana state Rep. Andrew Ireland told the Daily Signal.

Self also said he believes some individuals exploit constitutional protections to avoid scrutiny.

“If awareness on this issue is not raised, both by voters and by politicians, radical Islamists will continue to hide behind this freedom of religion, freedom of speech curtain,” he said.

“That is to be expected. They are going to go on the offensive because they think they got the upper hand,” Self added.

He concluded that the issue is “more important than ever,” asserting that the threat “is spreading right now.”

“The videos of Imams openly preaching treason are gaining traction,” Self said. “They are on the offensive, make no mistake about it.”

How Flash Mobs of Teens Are Taking Over Towns, Beaches

These “kids” are committing criminal offenses with their “teen takeovers” and need to be arrested, locked up, tried, convicted and spend some time in jail. We can’t let this abomination of our culture continue.

How Flash Mobs of Teens Are Taking Over Towns, Beaches

Teen takeovers started in Chicago in 2024 and become a nationwide phenomenon in 2025. They often devolve into violence.

By Troy Myers

ORLANDO, Fla.— From the Orlando Eye ferris wheel in Icon Park, tourists typically see a city bustling with families, live music, roller coasters, water parks, and other forms of entertainment.

April 25 was different. In just minutes, the park’s atmosphere turned from colorful to chaotic.

“There were firefighters, there were police, ambulance, everything,” said 19-year-old Alex Rodriguez, who helps run a fragrance kiosk at the park. “There were a bunch of people fighting, crying, trying to steal.”

Rodriguez and others recounted to The Epoch Times how a crowd—more than 1,000 teenagers in total—swarmed the park during a “teen takeover.” Their accounts and online video footage underscore the anarchy unfolding in towns and cities across the United States.

Since the summer of 2024, cities including Chicago have seen unsanctioned gatherings with hundreds of minors converging on public spaces, such as malls, beaches, parks, or restaurants. These gatherings often end in fights, vandalism, destruction of property, conflicts with law enforcement, arrests, and even shootings.

In Florida alone, there have been several takeovers resulting in shootings and arrests.

Elsewhere, a 14-year-old boy was shot at a takeover in Detroit. A Chipotle restaurant in Washington was vandalized by masked teenagers. Youths descended on a sleepy New Jersey beach town, fighting and jumping on cars, forcing law enforcement to respond with riot shields.

The term “teen takeover” first gained notoriety in Chicago. It evolved into a nationwide phenomenon in 2025 and has remained a regular occurrence in 2026. Participants typically range in age from 12 to 20.

Takeovers put city officials, law enforcement, and local businesses on edge due to their unpredictable nature, forcing jurisdictions to implement policies and measures to prevent them.

Here’s how the takeovers are impacting cities and how authorities are responding.

AI Data Centers: We Are All Flocked!

First for the good news. If you go to a meeting, they will listen. If not vote them out in the primary.

Great news for Jackson County, FL. At the June 9th, Board of County Commissioner meeting the vote was 5-0 for an ordinance stating NO AI data centers in Jackson County, Florida. Congratulations to us all. It is wonderful when we can work together! That is a big celebration for our Independence Day.

View the meeting.

Key points that were mentioned were as follows:

  • MAJOR RISK TO WATER SUPPLY — Massive Water Demand
  • WATER CONTAMINATION RISKS — due to chemical exposure and construction runoff
  • ELECTRICAL GRID STRAIN — high power consumption on an unstable grid.
  • NOISE, TRAFFIC & 24/7 INDUSTRIAL ACTIVITY
  • LOSS OF RURAL LAND & COMMUNITY CHARACTER
  • STORMWATER & FLOODING RISKS
  • LIMITED LOCAL BENEFIT — few permanent jobs, minimal economic return
  • · LACK OF TRANSPARENCY
  • MONEY MAY BE USED TO ENTICE FAVORABLE OUTCOMES
  • SURVEILLANCE AND CONTROL

BOTTOM LINE

AI data centers bring major risks to Jackson County’s water, land, infrastructure, and rural way of life — with very limited benefits. Residents deserve full transparency, strict protections, and independent impact studies before any approval is considered.

Tampa has 28 data centers, Orlando 11, Miami 27, Jacksonville 11 and there are some elsewhere, for a total of 106 data centers in Florida.

Do not confuse AI Data Centers with ones used by banks or credit card companies! We are talking about AI (Artificial Intelligence) Data Centers. Do not for one minute think, that this is the end of the of our fight! We must conduct continuous oversight to make sure one doesn’t slip through under an obscure name or purpose. We also should be on the lookout for shell companies looking to buy land.

Our rights come from our creator; our government is elected by the People to protect those rights; and, the power is with We the People, AKA The Sovereign. How often that is forgotten, especially from those that are believing the propaganda that we hear from the left Communists. They believe their rights come from the government. The government is there to suppress the people and their power comes from their fear of armies and force.

Sally reminded the Commissioners that the Jackson County, Florida Commissioners were elected to represent the will of the people of Jackson County, Florida.

Our Declaration of Independence states that very fact……….250 years…….

“Governments are instituted among Men deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,” Sad to say, many of our elected have forgotten this fact. It is very important that you know your candidates and vote in the Primary August 18.

We let our voices be known. We the People do not consent to any AI Data Centers or Mega Data Centers or Solar Farms in Jackson County, Florida.

The BCC listened. That is called team work.

Why did I put a photo of a camera at the top of this article?

Many of you have heard me say quite often that everything is connected. Nothing is random. Everything has a plan. And all plans are based on lies. Nothing is more evident than what we are finding out with regards to the AI Data Centers, Ring Cameras, Smart Meters, and Flock cameras. I spoke about the real purpose of these centers – SURVEILLANCE.

What is a Flock Camera, you ask?

In the name of safety, Flock (an ALPR vendor) cameras are appearing on many streets in America. Currently there are about 80,000 nationwide. Unlike the cameras of old, which only took a photo of your license plate and car model, Flock cameras record video of license plate numbers and a car’s color, make and model, along with extras like bumper stickers, body damage, roof racks and temporary paper tags. Flock’s ALPR (Automated License Plate Readers) cameras can also identify vehicles with missing license plates or obscured tags. Lately, new capabilities are added to Flock cameras to discern and record gunshots, fireworks, and human voices. Make sure to check out some of the videos to learn more about Flock cameras! To find the maps go to deflock.org

“The municipality doesn’t own the camera, Flock and Google own them and they get the data. They have drones and pan-tilt- zoom cameras that recognize people and zoom into their faces. You can even see what they’re doing on their phone. Their ALPR cameras can recognize people. They do store pictures of people. I know this because I’ve accessed the footage and found pictures of myself. I’m not a car or a license plate.” Benn Jordan.

Today we find out that I-95 is filled with these cameras and will now use them, instead of highway patrol to locate anyone disobeying the law. You will be sent your ticket and fine by mail. This will be a pilot program with the hopes of using these spy cameras on every interstate in America. How many constitutional amendments are they breaking?

Did you give your consent? That video, I believe, is AI generated but that does not mean it is not true. If you drive on an interstate, check the rules of the state before your trip.

URGENT: New USA (I-95) Highway Rules Begins TOMORROW — Drivers Could Face Instant Fines Nationwide

States, Municipalities, Counties who need funding will now have a new revenue source. Flock Camera fines. Check your area. How many cameras can you find? deflock.org

Look for cameras in your area. Did your municipality tell you about a contract?

How much does it cost? Did you have a public meeting? Was there a bid?

Many municipalities have canceled their contracts.

Is it time for a FOIA request? Let me know what you think.

Jackson County has about 8 cameras. Nationwide there are about 80,000 Cameras Watching You While They Call It Crime Prevention. They want more. Go to your budget meetings.

80,000 Cameras Watching You While They Call It Crime Prevention | America Hijacked

In Segment 1 of today’s show I will be speaking with Ileana Johnson. She will tell us what it is like to live under communism. It is not the rosy picture painted with the brush of the propaganda artists in MSM who hate the fact that you still have freedom. Surveillance cameras are just the beginning.

Segment 2 will be a know your candidate interview. Vic Rohe, running for Senate, Sarasota, District 22 FL, will be my guest.

It looks like the Iran conflict is over. It is expected that the deal will be signed next week in Europe. Also, the good news is the price of oil, which is now in the 80’s, will come down. Once oil stabilizes, inflation will drop as well. I caution you, don’t expect that to happen overnight. Prices have a bad habit of going up faster than coming down.

Now I ask you, if all the AI data center problems were solved, would you want the government spying on you 24/7? Is America worth saving? Is your freedom worth saving? Call your senator to get the Save America Act passed. If they are a no vote, get together with others and make signs, billboards, social media and newspaper ads. Expose them for the traitors that they are.

DEMOCRATS LOSE: Florida Democrats Suffer Major Defeat As Judge Blocks Redistricting Challenge, Allows GOP Congressional Map To Stand

Huge win. Great night.

The new maps gives the GOP four additional seats.

Townhall: Florida’s new Republican-backed map is allowed to plow forward for now, after a state-level judge did not stop the map from going into effect as it faces an ongoing legal fight, according to The Hill. The map, which was signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) this spring, will potentially give Republicans four more seats in Congress in the Sunshine State. “The election machinery of the state is already underway,” Circuit Judge Joshua Hawkes wrote in his Tuesday order. Hawkes was appointed by DeSantis in 2020. “The primary is less than three months away, and the general less than six months. The public interest weighs more in favor of certainty than a haphazard judicial mandate of discarded maps,” he added.

Florida judge blocks effort to halt new GOP House map

By Caroline Vakil, The Hill, May 26, 2026

A Florida judge on Tuesday blocked an effort to temporarily halt the use of a new Republican-favored House map in the Sunshine State, delivering another blow to Democrats after another judge denied a separate bid to halt a new GOP-friendly map in Tennessee.

Florida Circuit Court Judge Joshua Hawkes, an appointee of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), denied a request from several groups to temporarily pause the use of a new GOP-friendly map designed to net Republicans several seats in November.

DeSantis signed the map into law earlier this month after convening a short special session of the Legislature in which he pressed lawmakers to pass it. The new map could impact as many as four Democrats in the state, which currently has a 20-8 GOP advantage in its congressional delegation.

Critics who sued over the new map argue that it violates the Florida Constitution, which bans lawmakers from redrawing maps for partisan gain and undercutting minority voters from fair representation. They also argue that the map has become less compact, urging the court to block it from being used before the November elections.

Hawkes, however, argued that the groups didn’t sufficiently prove that the map was made with partisan intent and that it was too close to the election to introduce changes to voters.

“The primary is less than three months away, and the general less than six months. The public interest weighs more in favor of certainty than a haphazard judicial mandate of discarded maps,” Hawkes wrote, nothing his decision did not rule out halting the use of the maps after the courts weigh in on the merits of the case.

Opponents have already declared they will appeal the decision.

“We will continue our fight to protect the will of Floridians who overwhelmingly voted to ban partisan gerrymandering in this state,” Common Cause’s Florida executive director, Amy Keith, said in a statement.

“Because Floridians of all political backgrounds are so clearly against partisan gerrymandering, we will exhaust all legal options to make sure a map this partisan does not last the rest of this decade,” she added.

The ruling delivers another blow to Democrats, who are looking to counter recent redistricting in Southern states ahead of the midterms.

The Florida redistricting case is further complicated by a recent Supreme Court ruling that dismantled the Voting Rights Act and the ability for race to be considered in redistricting, as the Florida Constitution has clear language against partisan gerrymandering, too.

Dan Franzese Announces Candacy for U.S. Congress in Florida’s 25th District

Conservative business leader pledges to fight for lower costs, secure borders and the Trump agenda in newly redrawn FL-25

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ — Dan Franzese today announced his candidacy for the United States House of Representatives in Florida’s newly redrawn 25th Congressional District (FL-25). Franzese — who was the Republican nominee in Florida’s 22nd Congressional District (FL-22) in 2024 — enters the race promising to put America First, make life affordable, and hold career politicians accountable for the backroom deals destroying Florida’s way of life.

“Florida families have been betrayed by career politicians far too many times,” said Franzese. “As a political outsider from the business world, President Trump has been draining the swamp, delivering secure borders, and an America First agenda. In Congress, I’ll use that same experience to back him up, make life more affordable again, and hold career politicians accountable. The people of FL-25 deserve a fighter who shows up, tells the truth, and delivers — not another ladder climber cutting deals behind closed doors.”

Dan Will Fight To:

  • Put America First: Support President Trump’s agenda, secure our elections, and stop criminal illegal aliens.
  • Make Life Affordable Again: Cut taxes, lower energy costs, and reduce inflation.
  • Hold Career Politicians Accountable: Stop waste, fraud, and sketchy backroom deals that destroy our Florida way of life.

The new FL-25 overlaps the old FL-22, where Franzese was previously the Republican nominee and received an endorsement from President Donald Trump in 2024. From a blue-collar upbringing to a Wharton MBA, Franzese has established a record as a tireless conservative leader and trusted voice for the America First movement in South Florida. He has spent years building deep relationships in the community, working alongside local leaders, small business owners, faith communities, and grassroots conservatives. Those roots position him to compete and win in the new FL-25, which spans portions of Palm Beach County, Broward County, and Miami-Dade County, following the legislature’s redistricting last month.

Recent reporting in Florida Politics has confirmed that the FL-25 race is wide open, with no candidate consolidating early support and the majority of primary voters undecided.

The campaign is also releasing an internal polling memo showing that Franzese enters the race with strong favorability among voters that know him and a clear lane to introduce his America First vision to voters across the district.

About Dan Franzese

Dan Franzese is a conservative business leader, husband, father, and longtime South Florida resident. He has been an active voice in Palm Beach County’s conservative community and is running for Congress to put America first, make life affordable again, and hold career politicians accountable on behalf of the families of FL-25. Florida Rolls Out Congressional Map That Could Erase Virginia Dems’ Gerrymander Advantage

Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis unveiled a newly drawn congressional map that could hand Republicans a major advantage.

Republicans would gain four seats if the new congressional map were to pass, which would cause Florida’s delegation in the House to be represented by 24 Republicans and three Democrats, Fox News first reported. The new map was released after voters in Virginia approved a referendum that would give Democrats an advantage in ten out of 11 of the state’s congressional districts.

DeSantis said Republicans have been fighting for fair representation since the 2020 census, stating that the population in Florida has shifted from a Democratic majority to a 1.5 million Republican advantage.

“Florida got shortchanged in the 2020 Census, and we’ve been fighting for fair representation ever since,” DeSantis told Fox News. “Our population has since grown dramatically, and we have moved from a Democrat majority to a 1.5 million Republican advantage. Drawing maps based on race, which is reflected in our current congressional districts, is unconstitutional and should be prohibited. Our new map for 2026 makes good on my promise to conduct mid-decade redistricting, and it more fairly represents the makeup of Florida today.”

Fifty-one percent of Virginians approved the proposed congressional map Tuesday, though a circuit court in Tazewell County declared it unconstitutional. The Virginia Supreme Court heard oral arguments on the matter during a Monday hearing.

Democrats currently hold six seats in Virginia, while Republicans hold five.

The U.S. Supreme Court upheld Texas’ redistricting map Monday, which gives Republicans five additional seats in the House of Representatives. California also implemented Prop 50, which temporarily allows Democrats to redraw its congressional maps to help Democrats.

Governor Ron DeSantis Signs Law Banning Sharia Law in Florida

G: Gov. Ron DeSantis just signed a new law banning sharia law from taking root across Florida

DESANTIS: “NEVER ONE RED CENT FOR JIHAD!”

This is the way. Florida will not fall to Islam!

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) holds a press briefing to sign anti-terrorism and anti-Sharia Law legislation into law — barring Florida courts from enforcing certain foreign or religious laws.

Finally, a movement defending freedom and individual rights.

Governor Ron DeSantis signs legislation to combat terrorist groups and ban Sharia law in Florida

Press release from the Office of Governor Ron DeSantis

TAMPA, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis signed HB 1471, legislation strengthening protections against the application of foreign and religious laws — including Sharia law — that violate constitutional rights and establishing new safeguards against terrorist organizations operating in Florida.

“To uphold the rule of law, our state must operate under one legal system, the Constitution must remain the law of the land, and we must defend our institutions from those who would harm us — especially terrorist organizations that seek to infiltrate and subvert our education system,” said Governor Ron DeSantis. “HB 1471 reinforces these principles in Florida, and I was proud to sign it into law today.”

Florida has taken a consistent approach to protecting its institutions and residents from foreign influence and emerging threats. In December, Governor DeSantis signed an executive order directing state agencies to take all lawful measures to prevent unlawful activity by terrorist organizations, including denying contracts, funding, and other benefits to those providing material support. The state has also strengthened oversight of foreign influence in education, prohibited partnerships with foreign adversaries tied to state institutions, and expanded law enforcement tools to respond to evolving threats.

HB 1471 reinforces that Florida courts may not apply or enforce foreign or religious law if doing so would violate constitutional rights. The legislation also blocks foreign judgments, contracts, or legal provisions that attempt to bypass those protections.

The bill strengthens Florida’s counterterrorism framework by authorizing the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s Chief of Domestic Security to recommend the designation of domestic terrorist organizations. It also ensures that foreign terrorist organizations recognized at the federal level can be enforced at the state level. Once designated, these organizations are subject to strict prohibitions, including bans on public funding and support, and individuals who provide material support face significant criminal penalties.

Additionally, the legislation increases accountability in education by prohibiting the use of taxpayer funds to support or promote terrorist organizations. Institutions that violate these provisions may face loss of state funding, and students who promote terrorist violence may face disciplinary action.

HB 1471 builds on Florida’s ongoing efforts to ensure that its courts operate under one system of law, its institutions remain free from harmful foreign influence, and its communities are protected from threats to public safety.

Congressional Vote Needed to Expel Florida Congresswoman Indicted for $5 Million Theft

Six members of the U.S. House of Representatives have been expelled in history, with three removed for disloyalty during the Civil War and three for criminal conduct, including fraud. Of those, Michael Myers (D-PA) was expelled in 1980 after being convicted of bribery in the Abscam scandal, and James Traficant (D-OH) was expelled in 2002 following a conviction on charges including bribery, racketeering, and tax evasion, after misusing campaign funds and forcing staff to perform personal labor.

George Santos (R-NY) was expelled in 2023 based on findings by the House Ethics Committee that he committed fraud and misused campaign funds, though he has not yet been criminally convicted. The committee report detailed that Santos fabricated his resume, stole campaign donations, and spent funds on personal luxuries, including Botox and an adult website. While Santos is currently facing 23 felony counts including wire fraud and money laundering, his expulsion was based on ethical violations rather than a criminal conviction.

Other members disciplined for financial misconduct include:

  • George V. Hansen (R-ID), reprimanded in 1984 for false statements on financial disclosures.
  • Charles Rangel (D-NY), censured in 2010 for improper fundraising and tax violations.
  • David Schweikert (R-AZ), reprimanded in 2020 for misusing taxpayer funds and campaign finance violations.

This case highlights the basis for public mistrust in government accountability. While most Americans live from day to day, paycheck to paycheck, just check out how Rep. McCormick lived!

Our American youths deserve a country and a Congress that uphold the law as families struggle to live within their means. Examples of Congressional excesses and egregious criminal greed by our leaders are breaking the hearts of our children, desperate for worthy role models and despondent when they see avarice rewarded.

Our Congress has thus far failed and refused – in the face of mountains of material evidence – to hold one of its own accountable for alleged self-aggrandizement in excess of $5,000,000 of taxpayer crisis relief funds.

How many, many, many suffering crisis-stricken American families could have been helped with their shares of $5,000,000?

How many, many, many American youths are left without worthy role models whenever leaders are not held accountable?

How many more disillusioned American children will give up their trust in their government and turn their allegiance away from this nation?

No, Texans and Floridians Do NOT Pay Twice the Taxes Paid by Californians

Texas has the most regressive state tax system, but charges poor people more than California does its affluent residents, according to the Golden State’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom, who further claims that middle-class Texans pay more than residents of his state and Florida.

“Who are you for? Are you just for the one percent or are you for the 98?” Newsom asked in a March 15 post on X. That Newsom, who has all but officially announced his campaign for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination, would make such an easily discredited claim suggests a fate awaits him similar to that of former Vice-President Kamala Harris’s 2024 embarrassing bust.

Just Facts Daily (JFD), published by the non-partisan Texas-based Just Facts institute devoted to “publishing facts about public policies and teaching research skills,” likely needed less than a nanosecond of data-driven research to expose the fact that Newsom had it effectively backwards.

“IN FACT, California collects an average of $10,319 in taxes for every person in the state, while Texas collects $5,469, and Florida collects $4,914. Likewise, California collects 13.5% of its economy in taxes, while Florida collects 9.1% and Texas collects 8.6%,” JFD said.

In other words, California’s total tax take on average is almost precisely double that of Texas and a bit more than double that of the Florida’s total levy per person.

But JFD didn’t leave it at that. The researchers dug into the component parts of each of these three states’ tax systems. Here’s what they found:

  • “California’s top personal income tax rate is 13.3%, as compared to 0% in Texas and 0% in Florida.
  • “California’s property taxes average 2.8% of personal income, as compared to 3.6% in Texas and 2.6% in Florida.
  • “California’s top unemployment insurance tax rate is 6.2%, as compared to 6.2% in Texas and 5.4% in Florida.
  • “California’s sales tax rate is 7.2%, as compared to 6.2% in Texas and 6.0% in Florida.
  • “California’s excise tax on a gallon of gas is 70.9 cents, as compared to 20.0 cents in Texas and 40.3 cents in Florida.”

Interestingly, Newsom could have focused on property taxes where his state is measurably lower than that of Texas and nearly the same as the Florida rate. In addition, the California governor could have pointed to the three states’ unemployment insurance tax rate. For California, the rate is 6.2%, same as the Lone Star state and almost a full percentage point higher than Florida.

On the other hand, Newsom’s California demands an excise tax haul of 70.9 cents per gallon, which is more than three times higher than the 20 cents charged per gallon by Texas and considerably higher than Florida’s 40.3 cents per gallon. The sales tax rate for California is also noticeably higher at 7.2%, versus 6.2% in Texas and 6.0% for Florida.

It turns out that Newsom apparently drew his erroneous comparison based on an analysis published by a left-wing non-profit, the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP), whose work is riddled with errors and misrepresentations, according to JFD’s James Agresti, who is Just Facts’ president and its co-founder.

“The findings of this study have been uncritically cited in prominent venues such as the Washington PostCBS, the Daily BeastNewsmax, the Providence Journal, and the New York Times. For instance, the Times reported that ‘according to the study, in 2015 the poorest fifth of Americans will pay on average 10.9 percent of their income in state and local taxes, the middle fifth will pay 9.4 percent and the top 1 percent will average 5.4 percent.’”

“Glaringly absent from the media coverage is how this study uses the same type of deceitful methodology behind claims that the middle class pays a higher federal tax rate than the top 1 percent of income earners, Warren Buffett pays a lower federal tax rate than his secretary, and Mitt Romney pays a lower federal tax rate than the middle class,” Agresti explained.

Those deceitful methodological approaches include, among others, Agresti noted, the use of “calculations that exclude certain taxes, use partial measures of income, or employ both of these charades. The result is that the actual tax rates of the wealthy are understated, while those of others are progressively overstated as their income declines.” Just Facts’ detailed explanation provides additional details on flaws in the ITEP analysis.

As Agresti explained in detail, however, the presence of such analytical flaws didn’t stop The Washington Post, New York Times, and other media outlets from uncritically reporting a claim that an aspiring Democratic presidential candidate thought would advance his campaign to win four years in the Oval Office.

Florida Passes Voter ID Bill as National SAVE Act Stalls

The Florida Senate passed voter ID legislation Thursday, sending the bill to Gov. Ron DeSantis’ desk, as the SAVE America Act stalls in the U.S. Senate.

SB 1334, a bill to strengthen the verification process for voters’ citizenship status, passed the Sunshine State’s Senate 27-12, fulfilling the prediction of Florida Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia earlier Thursday.

The bill had passed the Florida House, 83-21, in February.

“These new laws will further help protect the ballot box,” Jeremy Redfern, deputy chief of staff to Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, told The Daily Signal. “We thank the Florida Legislature for being champions of election integrity and look forward to this legislation hitting Governor DeSantis’ desk for his signature.”

The bill will require voters to verify their citizenship with a photo identification card and require the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to note the citizenship status of drivers who receive new identification.

Prior to the vote, Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis announced in a social media post that he will sign the bill into law.

“Although Florida has already enacted much of what the federal legislation contemplates, this will further fortify our state as the leader in election integrity,” DeSantis wrote on X.

Republican state Rep. David Borrero told The Daily Signal that he refers to SB 1334 as the “SAVE Act,” like the national legislation, “because it helps save our democratic elections.”

“Requiring proof of citizenship ensures that voters are actually eligible to vote. Our system cannot be hijacked by noncitizens,” Borrero added.

Borrero attacked the 31 Democrats who voted against the bill in the state House.

“Clearly, it’s because they want illegals to vote in our elections,” he charged. “They are very weak on illegal immigrants; they incentivize it.”

The legislation, if signed into law, will take effect in January 2027.

Both Borrero and Ingoglia said there is no excuse for Republicans in the federal government to fail to pass voter ID when Florida passed the bill so efficiently.

“I agree with this 110%,” Borrero said. “Our entire U.S. Constitution relies on a system where only citizens vote. We cannot allow foreign nationals to hijack that system. This bill is needed to combat illegal voting all across the country, especially in states like California and New York.”

Borrero added that the bill is “so commonsense, that it wasn’t necessary before. But since the Left is so radicalized, we need to implement this now.”

During his press conference, Ingoglia issued similar remarks, adding that there is “zero reason” for a Republican-controlled Congress to be unable to pass “a very much-needed piece of legislation.”

The SAVE America Act, which has been championed by President Donald Trump and passed by the U.S. House of Representatives three times since 2024, continues to stall in the Senate, allegedly over bipartisan opposition.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., has promised to bring the bill to a vote in the Senate next week, but a source familiar with the matter previously told The Daily Signal the vote will be considered a “show vote.”

“I can confirm, it looks like Thune is planning to bring it to a vote next week as a show vote,” the source said. “Despite outrage from GOP voters and the specific request of the president, he is not planning on pursuing a standing filibuster or any other method to actually pass the bill.”

A standing filibuster would bypass the 60-vote threshold needed to pass legislation and allow the legislation to pass with just 50 votes.

There are currently 53 Republicans in the Senate.

The Daily Signal reached out to Florida state Senate Democrat Leader Lori Berman and U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., for comment, but neither responded by publication time.

U.S. Secret Service Killed Armed Man Attempting To Breach Mar-a-Lago

U.S. Secret Service agents shot and killed an unidentified man attempting to force his way into President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida early Sunday morning.

The two agents and a deputy from the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office confronted the individual, who was in his early 20s, armed with a shotgun, and carrying a gas can, according to a press conference held by federal and local law enforcement officials following a statement from the U.S. Secret Service.

“An armed man was shot & killed by U.S. Secret Service agents & @PBCountySheriff after unlawfully entering the secure perimeter at Mar-a-Lago early this morning. A press briefing with additional details will be held at 9:00 a.m with @FBI and Palm Beach County,” Secret Service Chief of Communications Anthony Gugliemi wrote.

WATCH:

“At 1:30 this morning the security detail detected an individual had made his way into the inner perimeter of Mar-a-Lago. A deputy and two Secret Service agents on the detail went to that area to investigate,” Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw told reporters at the Sunday morning press conference. “They confronted a white male that was carrying a gas can and a shotgun. He was ordered to drop those two pieces of equipment that he had with him and, at which time he put down the gas can, raised the shotgun to a shooting position, and at that point in time the deputy and the two Secret Service agents fired their weapons and neutralized the threat. He is deceased at the scene.”

Trump was not at the Florida residence at the time. He and first lady Melania Trump hosted the nation’s governors at the White House for a dinner event Saturday night.

Trump survived two assassination attempts during the 2024 campaign. A Sept. 15, 2024 assassination attempt by Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was thwarted by Secret Service agents at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.

During a July 13, 2024 campaign rally in Butler County, Penn., Trump was wounded when a bullet fired by Thomas Crooks grazed his ear.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
