Scandal-Ridden Ilhan Omar Marries Her Political Consultant by Hugh Fitzgerald

Rep. Ilhan Omar’s marriage to a political consultant has drawn renewed focus to her campaign’s payments to her now-husband and his firm, which are at the center of a pending complaint with the Federal Election Commission. The story is here.

Omar (D-Minn.) on Wednesday [March 11] announced on Instagram that she had married Timothy Mynett, and the couple filed their marriage license in Washington that same day.

Following Omar’s marriage announcement, conservative critics raised concerns about payments by her campaign to E Street Group, which is run by Mynett.

“Taxpayers funded her campaign. Now they’re funding her marriage. How is this not an FEC violation?” conservative activist Charlie Kirk tweeted Thursday.

Citing an “irretrievable breakdown” in her marriage, Omar filed for divorce from her previous husband in October amid allegations that she was having an affair with Mynett, a consultant for her congressional campaign. Two months prior, Mynett’s then-wife had filed for legal separation, alleging Mynett was “romantically involved” with Omar.

There have been scandals involving Ilhan Omar and each of her three “marriages,” a veritable trifecta of scandal. She apparently married Ahmed Nur Said Elmi in 2009, in a state ceremony. Some in the Somali community have claimed he is her brother, whom she “married” so that he could obtain a green card and study in the United States. She has brushed off that charge, as if it were too absurd to deserve an answer. The question remains, and many, including some Somali-Americans, would welcome an FBI investigation into the matter. There are reports that at the time she married Said Elmi, Ilhan Omar was also the wife of Ahmed Hirsi, whom she had married in 2002 in a Muslim ceremony not recognized by the state. She had two children with Hirsi before separating from him, and a third one with him after they got back together, that is, after she and Elmi had officially split (though they may never have behaved like man and wife). It seems that for some time Ilhan Omar, Ahmed Hirsi (husband number one), and Ahmed Nur Said Elmi (husband number two, and possibly her brother), all lived together, first in Minneapolis and then in North Dakota, where both Omar and Elmi enrolled at North Dakota State University. That unusual housing arrangement made sense, if Omar considered herself to be Ahmed Hirsi’s wife but also needed to make sure that government officials knew that Ahmed Nur Said Elmi was living in the same home with her, in order to buttress his claim of being her husband.

Recently a member of the Somali community in Minneapolis handed over to two FBI agents a trove of documents regarding Omar’s 2009 marriage to Elmi; the tight-lipped FBi has not yet said if, on the basis of those documents, it has opened an investigation into Ilhan Omar for marriage fraud, which carries a penalty of up to five years in jail and a $250,000 fine. She has certainly raised eyebrows from Minnesota to Washington to Mogadishu, with her various and highly unusual domestic arrangements. Her opponent in the 2020 election could provide a campaign slogan suitable for Ilhan Omar: “What a tangled web we weave, when e’er we practice to deceive.” One hopes that the FBI will not be afraid to look into her family arrangements; the agents will simply have to ignore the predictable shrill cries of “racism” and “islamophobia.” And whoever runs against her this fall should not let the matter drop but demand she explain fully to the American people her relationships with her three “husbands” – Ahmed Hirsi, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, and her current husband and overpaid political consultant, Timothy Mynett. Elmi may be hard to locate; he has left the United States for the U.K. Was that a move that Ilhan Omar, his ex-wife and possibly his sister, encouraged and paid for, to get him out of the way of pesky American reporters and investigators?

And then there is husband #3, Mynett, who runs a small political consultancy firm in Washington. With him too, there is a scent of scandal, but this one is purely financial.

Asked at the time [of reports of her being seen leaving Mynett’s apartment in the morning] by the CBS affiliate in Minneapolis whether she was dating anyone, she said, “No, I am not,” and declined to discuss personal matters. Mynett had denied that he was leaving his marriage for Omar or that he was in love with her.

Three lies were thus told:

1) by Omar, who was in fact dating Mynett at the time;

2) by Tim Mynett, was indeed leaving his wife for Omar; and

3) by Mynett, again, who was clearly in love with her.

Since 2018, Omar’s campaign paid about $586,000 to E Street Group for a range of services that included digital advertising, fundraising consulting, digital communications and design. The campaign also paid $7,000 to Mynett directly for fundraising consulting before hiring his consulting firm.

$586,000 to Mynett’s E Street group for a year’s  (2019) work? That’s a gigantic sum for one off-election year — 2019 — of political consultancy. What were other first-time House members spending in 2019 for similar services? Those figures – compare, contrast — should prove enlightening.

Payments to the firm in the 2019-2020 cycle for Omar’s reelection campaign comprised 40 percent of total campaign expenses, federal filings show.

It is unusual for such a high percentage campaign’s expenses to be directed to one shop. In Omar’s case, fully 40% of her total campaign expenses paid for the services of Tim Mynett’s political consultancy. The shop was owned by Omar’s lover and future husband. She was, in effect, paying herself – for any such overpayments to Mr. Mynett would obviously benefit the woman who was soon to become Mrs. Mynett.

Representatives for Omar’s campaign and Mynett’s firm said this week that there was nothing improper about the payments because they were made for legitimate work.

Her campaign and the E Street Group claim there was “nothing improper” about these payments. There are ways to test that claim. How much money is given to other consulting firms of the same size and experience, for the same kind of work? Was the payment of nearly $600,000 paid to Mynett within the usual range for someone running for re-election to a House seat, or was it, as many suspect, a sum far above what would usually be paid to a single consultant in a non-election year? Has Tim Mynett’s E Street Group ever had a client who paid it anywhere near as much as did Ilhan Omar? Or was this, in every sense of the word, a sweetheart deal benefiting Mynett and his future wife?

But as news of the alleged affair unfolded, the conservative nonprofit National Legal and Policy Center filed an FEC complaint in August alleging Omar’s campaign had violated a prohibition on candidates using campaign money for personal use.

Campaign funds cannot be used for personal purposes, including paying for a candidate’s rent or any personal membership fees.

Federal laws allow candidates to use campaign funds to pay family and friends, as long as the money is used for a legitimate campaign expense and paid at fair market value.

Generally, the rationale is, as long as they’re doing real work, you can pay them as you’d pay anyone else. You can’t overpay them. It can’t be a no-show job or a low-show job. You have to actually do the work,” said Daniel Petalas, formerly the FEC’s acting general counsel and head of enforcement.

You can’t overpay them.  Whether $586,000 should be seen as  overpayment, or not, remains to be investigated. And you can’t pay their travel expenses, either, if the travel — the planes, the hotels – were for the personal pleasure of Ilhan Omar and her romantic companion, Timothy Mynett. It turns out she had been spending lavishly on such travel, and has had to pay thousands of dollars back to the campaign. Again, the purpose of each trip, the justification for Omar and Mynett having to travel so much together, the amount of travel expenses incurred, would all have to be investigated before deciding whether she has violated campaign finance laws.

A partner at E Street Group, Will Hailer, who co-founded the firm with Mynett, said on Friday that the payments went toward legitimate campaign work. He said most of the advertising-related payments had been passed on to vendors, as is the case with most advertising work.

The firm has about 18 employees and “on any given day, eight or more people could be touching her account at some point, between design, digital ads, social media, email content creation, high-dollar fundraising, political support and many other things that we provide for the campaign, Hailer said. “Similar to what we provide for countless other clients across the country.”

Hailer said he and Mynett began working for Omar’s campaign after years of political experience in her district and in Minnesota.

That is something the FEC could look into – just how much political experience did the E Street Group have, on what kinds of races, and with what results? Did they have a track record that allowed them to legitimately command fees of nearly $600,000 from a single client? Had any other candidates ever paid them nearly as much?

Omar campaign attorney David Mitrani echoed that point in a Thursday memo, which the campaign provided to The Washington Post on Friday, saying that the firm provided bona fide campaign services at fair market value.

“There is simply nothing unusual about the services that E Street Group provides to Ilhan for Congress — and nothing inappropriate with a vendor being reimbursed for travel for bona fide services — even if that vendor is run by a candidate’s spouse,” Mitrani wrote.

In its August complaint, the National Legal and Policy Center alleged that the campaign failed to disclose that payments to the firm “must be considered personal in nature” due to the reported relationship between its partner and the candidate.

If Ilhan for Congress reimbursed Mynett’s LLC for travel so that Rep. Omar would have the benefit of Mynett’s romantic companionship, the expenditures must be considered personal in nature,” the complaint read.

The FEC lost its voting quorum shortly after the complaint was filed, and it is unable to take any official enforcement action on the pending complaint.

The FEC may not be able to take action on the complaint at the moment, but the American people, and especially the voters in her district, can certainly make up their own mind about Ilhan Omar’s providing her lover, and future husband, with almost all of his business, channeling business amounting to 40% of her total campaign expenditures is on the up-and-up, or whether it looks very fishy.

“As far as the nuptials, I think this event underscores the problems we cited in our complaint,” Peter Flaherty, chairman of the National Legal and Policy Center, said on Friday.

“You have a member of Congress paying a close friend and now-husband most of her campaign spending,” Flaherty added. “It still raises the question of whether it is to facilitate a personal relationship or whether Tim Mynett is the best possible vendor for all these possible activities.”

Ilhan, Ilhan. You have been so busy. In 2019 you were named Antisemite of the Year by the website stopantisemitism.org, beating out the formidable likes of Louis Farrakhan. The things you did to merit that title were truly impressive:

  1. You accused American Jewry of possessing dual loyalty.
  2. You alleged that Jews buy their influence with money, infamously stating “It’s all about the Benjamins.”
  3. You accused Israel of having hypnotized the world.
  4. You supported the antisemitic Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel.
  5. You submitted a resolution in the House of Representatives comparing boycotting Israel to boycotting the Nazis.
  6. You had your antisemitic statements endorsed by infamous neo-Nazi David Duke.

And not content with that recognition, you are rushing headlong, it seems, into quite a different set of scandals. Judging by the reports, it’s possible that all by yourself you have managed to be guilty of marriage fraud, immigration fraud, bigamy, and violation of campaign financing laws. It’s taken a while, but at long last there may be an official investigation into all these interlocking offenses, and we’ll see if you have been unfairly maligned or if, instead, your many accusers have been right about you all along.

Keeping Your Head During the Coronavirus Crisis

Some wag once changed the opening line of Rudyard Kipling’s classic poem, “If,” this way: “If you can keep your head while all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you…you haven’t understood the gravity of the situation.

And so it seems to be with the coronavirus crisis.

I can’t remember the last time church was canceled. (I think it was during one of the hurricanes we frequently experience in Florida.) We as a family ended up having a mini-service in our own home.

On the other hand, one can’t help but feel that fears surrounding the virus are being exaggerated.  We are taking all due precautions because of the coronavirus.

Every morning when I arise, coronavirus or not, I try and repeat a number of Scriptural truths to put me in the right frame of mind. It keeps me positive and focused. I go through them in the night as well.

I recommend this practice because this is such a negative world. I cannot imagine what life would be like if all you did was watch cable news. To watch that news all the time, one could easily lose perspective on life.

Here are several Biblical truths I try to bathe my mind with. My goal is the renewal of my mind:

  1. All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purposes.
  2. I give thanks in all circumstances.
  3. If God is for us, who can be against us?
  4. He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how will He not also, along with Him, freely give us all things?
  5. Because of Jesus, I am righteous in God’s sight.
  6. God is pleased with me.
  7. God approves of me.
  8. I have been forgiven. I forgive those who have sinned against me. I walk in forgiveness. I don’t hold any grudges.
  9. I am a son of God.
  10. I am a friend of God.
  11. I was chosen before the foundation of the earth.
  12. My past is forgiven.
  13. My present is abundant life in Christ.
  14. My future is eternal life with Christ.
  15. I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
  16. And my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
  17. The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me.
  18. By His grace I will fulfill my God-given destiny.
  19. God promises to give us wisdom when we ask for it, believing.
  20. I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves us.
  21. God is leading me, and I follow His lead.
  22. Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. (This means: God is greater than Satan.)
  23. Look to others, and be distressed. Look to self, and be depressed. Look to Jesus, and be blessed.
  24. By God’s grace, I am generous, and I look out for the interests of others.
  25. He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus.
  26. Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
  27. In all your ways, acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.
  28. God says, “No good thing will I withhold from those who walk uprightly.”
  29. With God, all things are possible.
  30. To live is Christ. To die is gain.

While taking all common-sense precautions—including getting plenty of sleep and exercise and, of course, washing, washing, washing—focus on God to stay positive in a negative world.

This piece is being written around the time of St. Patrick’s Day. I’m reminded how the great saint, who brought Christianity to Ireland, used to pray regularly for God’s safety in very dangerous times. He developed (or perhaps it was developed later, based on his teachings) a prayer called, “The Breastplate of St. Patrick.”

Tradition tells us St. Patrick prayed: “I arise today / Through God’s strength to pilot me: / God’s might to uphold me, / God’s wisdom to guide me, / God’s eye to look before me, / God’s ear to hear me, / God’s word to speak for me, / God’s hand to guard me, / God’s way to lie before me, / God’s shield to protect me…/ Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, / Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me, / Christ on my right, Christ on my left, / Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise.” Amen.

May God help us to keep our head during the coronavirus. Try to stay safe. This too shall pass.

Socialism’s Past

Sen. Bernie Sanders’, I-Vt., call for socialism has resonated among many Americans, particularly young Americans. They’ve fallen prey to the idea of a paradise here on Earth where things are free and there’s little want. But socialists never reveal what turns out to be their true agenda.

Let’s look at the kind of statements they used to gain power. You’ll note that all of their slogans before gaining power bore little relation to the facts after they had power.

Vladimir Lenin promised, “Under socialism all will govern in turn and will soon become accustomed to no one governing.” That’s Friedrich Engel’s prediction about “the withering away of the state.”

Lenin also promised, “Communism is Soviet power plus electrification,” and “No amount of political freedom will satisfy the hungry masses.”

In these trying times, we must turn to the greatest document in the history of the world to promise freedom and opportunity to its citizens for guidance. Find out more now >>

Lenin’s successor, Josef Stalin, said, “Advance towards socialism cannot but cause the exploiting elements to resist the advance, and the resistance of the exploiters cannot but lead to the inevitable sharpening of the class struggle.” He also said, “Gaiety is the most outstanding feature of the Soviet Union,” and that “Gratitude is a sickness suffered by dogs.”

Then there’s China’s Chairman Mao Zedong, who said: “Socialism must be developed in China, and the route toward such an end is a democratic revolution, which will enable socialist and communist consolidation over a length of time. It is also important to unite with the middle peasants, and educate them on the failings of capitalism.”

Mao advised: “A communist must be selfless, with the interests of the masses at heart. He must also possess a largeness of mind, as well as a practical, far-sighted mindset.”

Cuban dictator Fidel Castro said: “Capitalism has neither the capacity, nor the morality, nor the ethics to solve the problems of poverty. We must establish a new world order based on justice, on equity, and on peace.” He added, “I find capitalism repugnant. It is filthy, it is gross, it is alienating … because it causes war, hypocrisy, and competition.”

Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez promised: “I am going to do my best to try to create a country in which children are not living in poverty, in which kids can go to college, in which old people have health care. Will I succeed? I can’t guarantee you that, but I can tell you that from a human point of view it is better to show up than to give up.” Adding, “I am convinced that the path to a new, better, and possible world is not capitalism, the path is socialism.”

His successor Nicolas Maduro said: “Fidel Castro represents the dignity of the South American continent against empires. He’s a living legend: an icon of independence and freedom across the continent.”

Sanders’ statements are not that different from those of Lenin, Stalin, Castro, Chavez, and other tyrants.

Sanders says, “Let us wage a moral and political war against the billionaires and corporate leaders, on Wall Street and elsewhere, whose policies and greed are destroying the middle class of America,” and, “We need to change the power structure in America, we need to end the political oligarchy.”

Stalin’s campaign didn’t mention that he would enact policies that would lead to the slaughter of 62 million people in the Soviet Union between 1917 to 1987.

Mao didn’t mention that his People’s Republic of China would engage in brutal acts that would lead to the loss of 76 million lives at the hands of the government from 1949 to 1987.

The late professor Rudolph J. Rummel of the University of Hawaii documented this tragedy in his book “Death by Government: Genocide and Mass Murder Since 1900.”

Because socialism is a fight against basic human nature, it requires brute force in the attempt to reach its goals. The best warning about socialism comes from Aesop, who said, “Those who voluntarily put power into the hands of a tyrant … must not wonder if it be at last turned against themselves.”

We shouldn’t ignore Martin Luther King Jr.’s warning, “Never forget that everything Hitler did in Germany was legal.”

This is a critical year in the history of our country. With the country polarized and divided on a number of issues and with roughly half of the country clamoring for increased government control—over health care, socialism, increased regulations, and open borders—we must turn to America’s founding for the answers on how best to proceed into the future.

Don’ts and Dos on Wuhan Flu Virus

Some of the views expressed here are controversial. So, do ask your doctor. I hope you have one—not just the HMO or retail clinic “provider.”

Don’t panic. That is always good advice. If you, like the world’s economy, operate on just-in-time inventories, and did not take advice to stock up 3 weeks ago, do not join a mob at a big-box store. Somebody there is no doubt infected. Plus, there’s the risk of getting trampled or injured in a fist fight over the last roll of toilet paper. Most of the world survives without that luxury good. If you have no rice or beans or pasta in the pantry, that is more serious, but you should still avoid mobs if at all possible. Take-out and drive-through places are booming.

Don’t treat fever without a doctor’s advice. Fever is not a disease. It is an important defense mechanism. Very high fevers (say 105 degrees) can cause brain damage, and children can have seizures. But don’t pop Tylenol or ibuprofen at the first sign of fever. Many of the casualties in the 1918 pandemic might have been caused by heavy use of aspirin. Like aspirin, popular nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDS) such ibuprofen also have detrimental effects on blood clotting. Try lukewarm sponge baths for comfort.

Don’t rush out and get a flu shot. I know, a lot of doctors and public health authorities urge everybody to do this. Influenza can kill you, and the flu shot decreases that risk by 30% to 60%—but there is evidence that it can make COVID-19 worse, both from the earlier SARS epidemic and lab research. Like with so many things in medicine, we have to play the odds.

  • Don’t go to the emergency room or urgent care unless you are severely ill. There will be sick people there, and you might catch something. You also might end up with a big bill, say for a CT scan you didn’t really need. And if you have the flu or a cold or COVID-19, and don’t need IV fluids or oxygen, they can’t do anything for you. Telephone advice lines could help greatly.
  • Don’t go to events that are crowded, especially indoors in poorly ventilated rooms. Staying home is good.
  • Don’t demand to be tested and rely on the results. The tests are still in short supply and not very accurate. If you are at low risk, a positive test is likely to be a false positive. And if you are infected, the test may be negative at first. We need much more testing—mainly for public health monitoring.
  • Don’t waste. Expired medications are probably still good. Most drugs or essential ingredients are made in China, and supplies are running out. Masks (also mostly made in China) are meant to be disposable, but likely can’t be replaced (see below).
  • Don’t touch your face or your eyes. That is very hard—preventing that is one function of a mask and eye protection.
  • Don’t fall for internet scams, or malware. Hucksters will always be around to try to profit from panics. A new type of malicious virus is embedded malware in sites that come up on a search for information. (If you want to find the Johns Hopkins University dashboard of cases and deaths, go to the university’s website, don’t Google “coronavirus map.”)

Now for some dos:

  • Do prepare to take care of yourself and your family. Be sure you have a fever thermometer, disposable gloves, plastic garbage bags, and cleaning supplies. A pulse oximeter, available in many places for around $40, is good to have to check oxygen levels.
  • Do clean and disinfect surfaces such as doorknobs, telephones, computer keyboards, toilets, and countertops often. Virus can persist there for days.
  • Do remember that sunlight is the best disinfectant. If you don’t have a pocket ultraviolet lamp (they are or were available on amazon), try putting things like masks or paper currency out in the sun. The idea should be rigorously tested, but in times of need, you may have to guess.
  • Do wash your hands often and use hand sanitizer. With SARS-CoV-2, most disinfectants work, including 70-percent-alcohol-based sanitizers.
  • Do put a mask on sick people if you can. For protecting yourself you need a minimum of an N95 mask and eye protection.
  • Do take your vitamins. Most people may be vitamin D deficient. Your need for vitamin C escalates with infection. Some 50 tons of vitamin C was shipped to Wuhan, and studies of effectiveness are underway.
  • Do get your essential prescriptions refilled for 90 days—the supply chain depends on China. If your managed-care plan won’t pay, consider paying cash. You may be able to get a good price with a coupon from goodrx.com.
  • Do protect your immune system, with adequate sleep, exercise, fresh air, and diet, especially avoiding sugar if you feel ill.
  • Do help your neighbors, and be responsible about protecting others as well as yourself from contagion.

Jacqueline Tran, Trump Victory Alumna, Joins Liz Matory for Congress Campaign to Capture Republican Nomination for Conservatives

BALTIMORE /PRNewswire/ — The Liz Matory for Congress campaign is excited to announce the addition of conservative leader Jacqueline Tran as Finance Director to galvanize support for the regular GOP Maryland Primary, April 28, 2020. Liz is running for the district previously represented by Elijah Cummings in the Baltimore region.

Liz Matory, Conservative Choice for Maryland’s 7th Congressional District formerly held by Elijah Cummings. Party establishment tried to push her out of race. She refused. In light of all the corruption, voters must have honesty not gimmicks.

Jacqueline served as the Director of Strategic Initiatives/Coalitions for Trump Victory, through the Virginia GOP.  She established unprecedented coalitions of voters from diverse backgrounds. For close to a decade, Jacqueline has helped grow the grassroots efforts of the Republican Party in Northern Virginia.  Jacqueline is a first generation American whose parents are naturalized citizens from Jamaica.  She grew up in Connecticut and graduated from the University of Connecticut and Norwich UniversityVermont. By trade, she is an underwriter and serves as a public arbitrator for FINRA. Jacqueline is also the Ways & Means chair of the Junior League of Washington.

Growing up, I always admired government and the role public officials could play to make a difference. But more and more, I realized how out of touch politicians can be. When I met Liz, I felt reenergized to know there were still Christians and Conservatives who are willing to step up and defend our American values boldly. Knowing how difficult it has been for President Trump, I’m proud to support Liz and help Drain the Swamp from Baltimore to DC. Last year was brutal for Virginia, and I don’t want to see Maryland lose more ground.

I also think it is so important for women to represent with honor. It is refreshing to hear Liz speak honestly about her experiences, particularly young women can learn from her. She is the kind of woman we need to be a representative in Congress. Social media has made a mockery of our politics and we need serious conservatives to help conserve our Republic.

Liz has a very important primary to win on April 28th, and I’m here to help her do just that.  – Jacqueline Tran

Only 10,880 republicans came out to vote in February’s Special Election Primary and still do not have critical information about their choices for the Republican nomination for November’s General Election.

About Liz Matory – Liz Matory is the only pro-life, conservative Christian woman running for Maryland’s 7th Congressional district.  A former active liberal, Liz became the first Black woman nominated to Congress by the Republican Party in Maryland and the first American of Asian descent by either party for Congress. Andrew Gillum Entering Rehab After Miami Hotel Meth Incident

Failed Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum revealed on Sunday that he is entering rehab after being discovered last week in a Miami hotel room with a male escort and bags of meth, naked and too drunk to explain himself to police officers.

Gillum, who claimed he had merely drunk too much at a friend’s wedding earlier in the day, said in a statement Sunday night that the incident was “a wake-up call for me” and that he had decided, after conversations with his family and deep reflection, to seek help in rehab.

“Since my race for governor ended, I fell into a depression that has led to alcohol abuse,” he said, pledging to work to “heal fully and show up in the world as a more complete person. I want to apologize to my family, friends and the people of Florida who have supported me and put their faith in me over the years.”

If Gillum, who is married with three children, comes out as gay in light of this incident, he will be celebrated and exonerated by the left, though he will have destroyed the lives of his wife and children in the process.

New Primary Polls: Biden Predicted To Win Easily In Florida, Illinois And Ohio; Sanders Voters Reeling

Latest ROI Rocket polls have Biden up over Sanders by 40% in Florida, 27% in Ohio and 24% in Illinois.

DENVER/PRNewswire/ — According to new surveys from ROI Rocket, a leading providing of market research-based consulting, former vice president Joe Biden is poised to win the three largest states holding primaries tomorrow by substantial margins. These polls project Biden will outperform Senator Bernie Sanders (D-Vermont) by about 67% to 27% in Florida, 61% to 33% in Ohio and 57% to 34% in Illinois. The estimated margins of victory in these races are well above the error rates associated with the results, though potential responses to the coronavirus epidemic may impact these numbers, particularly if older voters stay home in large numbers.

After breaking out of the pack on Super Tuesday, Biden has only increased his delegate lead, winning five out of six contests in last week’s primaries. The situation has left many Sanders supporters wondering where to throw their support. At present, across FloridaOhio and Illinois, about 22% of Sanders supporters say they’re likely to vote for someone other than Biden or decline to vote altogether.

At the same time, support for Biden continues to be decidedly lackluster. There’s comparatively little enthusiasm for the candidate and he’s yet to make a strong emotional connection with many Democratic primary voters. Taken together, disaffection among Sanders supporters and broad but shallow support for Biden cast serious doubt on the Democratic Party’s chances of taking the White House in November.

Florida: Only about 61% of Biden’s supporters are enthusiastic while just 53% feel an emotional connection. About 21% of Sanders supporters say they won’t vote for Biden in November—6% say they’ll vote for Trump, 8% for a third party and 7% will stay home.

Ohio: Only 48% of Biden’s supporters are enthusiastic and about two-in-five (40%) feel an emotional connection. As for Sanders supporters, about 28% say they won’t vote for Biden in November, 6% say they’ll vote for Trump, 14% for a third party and 8% will stay home.

Illinois: Significantly less than half of Biden voters (about 41%) are enthusiastic supporters and only 39% feel an emotional connection. If Biden is the nominee, about 7% of Sanders supporters say they’ll vote for Trump, 11% for a third party and 5% won’t vote at all.

ABOUT THIS RESEARCH

This research was fielded from March 6 – 12, 2020. To qualify for this study, respondents were required to be registered voters likely to vote in the 2020 presidential election. Sample collection was balanced to state-specific U.S. Census numbers for gender, age, ethnicity and urban/suburban/rural residency. In addition, we also established minimum quotas based on party identification to ensure reliable sub-group analyses.

In addition, appropriate weights have been applied based on U.S. Census figures for state population, gender and age, along with party membership.

Discrete sample samples and associated margins of error are noted below. All margins of error have been calculated at the 95% confidence level in the most conservative case.

•

Florida sample (closed primary, Democrats only):

n=877 (MoE: +/- 3.3%)

•

Illinois sample (open primary, Democrats and Independents):

n=960 (MoE: +/- 3.1%)

•

Ohio sample (open primary, Democrats and Independents):

n=880 (MoE: +/- 3.3%)

ANDREW GILLUM BUSTED! OUR EXPOSE’ PLAN

On Friday March 13, 2020, in South Miami Beach, FL., Marxist superstar, CNN analyst, former Democrat candidate for Florida Governor and current leader of the George Soros funded effort to “Flip Florida Blue” and defeat President Trump, was caught by the police  in a upscale hotel with the deadly drug, Crystal Meth and Travis Dyson, a gay, male prostitute.

Apart from this human tragedy and the devastating impact this will have on Gillum’s wife and children, the fact remains that politically, Gillum is a radical Marxist, posing as a progressive socialist, who has joined with Muslim cultural jihadists like Ilhan Omar, to lead
a campaign in Florida to mobilize one million new Democrat voters and win the critically important 29 electoral votes, in the most significant battleground state of Florida.

During the Governor’s race of 2018, between Gillum and Ron DeSantis, The United West conducted a comprehensive investigation into Gillum’s anti-Constitutional, anti-Israel training and political worldview. We produced 12 videos that exposed him as a dangerous, well-funded operative who wants to radically change Florida and America into a socialist county. In fact, the Communist Party USA actually endorsed Gillum for Governor in Florida in 2018!

For the past year, The United West has managed a state-wide plan to mobilize 1,000,001 NEW Conservative voters, to counter Gillum’s one million leftist voters.

Whether or not Gillum returns to Democrat leadership in Florida, after some sort of rehabilitation, and complete protection from the progressive main stream media, his dangerous organization FLORIDA FORWARD ACTION remains in operation, working everyday to defeat President Trump.

It is essential, that we expose this operation as another Marxist movement intent on destroying our Constitutional Republic. Therefore, take these ACTION steps!

Coalition of Muslim groups launch $1,000,000 campaign to get Muslims to vote in 2020

A new coalition of Muslim groups is launching a Democrat 2020 campaign to influence the Muslim vote. The “Million Muslim Votes campaign,” is described as “an unprecedented $1 million effort to find and persuade Muslims to participate in the 2020 general election.”

These groups are expectedly unsavory: CAIR, the Illinois Muslim Civic Coalition, MPower Change, and the Muslim Public Affairs Council.

  • CAIR is an infamous propaganda pitcher and an unindicted co-conspirator to Jihad terror.
  • The Illinois Muslim Civic Coalition partners with CAIR. CAIR Chicago’s Census Fellow, Nevarez Azdar works “with CAIR-Chicago and the Illinois Muslim Civic Coalition on 2020 Census related matters, namely building community awareness through workshops, presentations and events.” Azdar has “a particular outreach focus on college students and building strategic partnerships with similar peer civic engagement organizations.”
  • MPower Change was co-founded by Linda Sarsour, the “proud socialist” who has “compassion for Saddam Hussein”; defends and honors “known convicted terrorists”; “supports BDS and its Hamas agenda”; makes no secret of her “contempt Israel, Zionism, and Jews”; portrays America as “racist” and “Islamophobic,” and much more. “MPower Change aims to build political power online and offline for Muslims across the U.S. Combining cutting edge digital tools with years of field experience, organizing know-how, and an extensive network of supporters, MPower Change is redefining the ways that our communities build, maintain, and exercise power.”
  • The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) “has followed a consistent pattern of defending designated terrorist organizations and their supporters, opposing U.S. counterterrorism efforts and spouting anti-Semitic rhetoric.”

These groups have combined forces to influence the Islamization of America, and are being aided and abetted by political players who will always “stand by Muslim brothers and sisters” no matter what.

“Coalition of Muslim Political Groups Launches $1 Million Campaign to Get More Muslims to Vote In 2020,” by Steve Friess, Newsweek, March 12, 2020:

A coalition of prominent Muslim-American advocacy groups this morning are launching the Million Muslim Votes campaign, an unprecedented $1 million effort to find and persuade Muslims to participate in the 2020 general election.

Led by Emgage, a Washington D.C.-based group aimed at increasing Muslim-American political literacy and civic engagement, the campaign will focus on increasing turnout in several states with sizeable Muslim populations, Emgage CEO Wa’el Alzayat says.

“We believe getting the community to vote in a consistent manner and not just voting in presidential elections but for local, state and national offices, is a crucial ingredient to build political power,” Alzayat says. “In 2016, we saw that the scapegoating, demonization of the Muslim community was part and parcel of the electoral strategy of Trump. He was rewarded at the polls. We want to make sure that the Muslim community steps up and votes and gets its voice heard to let the country know how it feels about that.”

Emgage will be joined in this effort by EmPower, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Muslim Public Affairs Council, MPower Change and Illinois Muslim Civic Coalition, among others. They will target Muslims in Michigan, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, Georgia, New York, Illinois, Texas and California.

A Tech-Driven Effort

More sophisticated than a simple get-out-the-vote public awareness campaign, the groups have developed an algorithm “to determine likely Muslim voters, and we overlay it on top of other identifiers like ethnicity models” in voter data purchased from the progressive data trust Catalist, Alzayat says. It’s not an exact science; many Muslims don’t have stereotypical Muslim-sounding names and some who do are not Muslim……

Coronavirus Tips for High-Ranking Party Members

We’ve got ourselves a nice crisis here, it would be a shame if something happened to it. In these glorious times, our foremost advice to all high-ranking Party members is to keep talking about the pandemic until Trump’s presidency falls on its back and dies like the coronavirus victim that it is.

Since Trump’s reelection depends on a strong economy, we must by all means paralyze all economic activity, causing massive scale bankruptcies and layoffs until the economy falls on its back and dies like the coronavirus victim that it is.

We must educate the population about how beneficial it is to submit to a total government control, without which they’ll face certain death – until their liberty falls on its back and dies like the coronavirus victim that it is.

Our manufactured 2008 crisis had already brought Obama to the White House. America somehow survived then, but let us all make sure it doesn’t survive this one. Not letting this manufactured crisis go to waste is now our election strategy in 2020.

For your own safety, do not confuse these with mandatory coronavirus tips for the low-ranking Party members posted here.

Joe Biden picks Coronavirus as his 2020 running mate

Whom would Joe Biden choose as his running mate? This question loomed ever since Biden became the apparent 2020 Democratic presidential nominee, and it was finally answered today.

Biden and his advisors were looking for a candidate with sufficient name recognition and the ability to bring down Donald Trump’s presidency by canceling his crowded rallies and reducing his voter base. And the only candidate who checked all those boxes happened to be Coronavirus. “We may differ on some tactics, but our strategic goals and our vision for the country are the same,” Biden told reporters.

Of course, there had been tremendous pressure to choose a woman for that spot. Stacey Abrams, the Governor of Georgia in exile, was rumored to be an obvious choice. Others dropped names like Hillary Clinton or Michelle Obama. After all the Democratic Party’s support for women’s marches, not having a woman on the ticket in 2020 would have looked odd.

That hurdle, however, was lifted when scientists declared Coronavirus to be a radical feminist. “Viruses have evolved to hit men hard but go easy on women, and this makes the virus a natural women’s ally,” said Biden’s campaign spokeswoman. “They reproduce just like us, and they care not to hurt the hosts who can reproduce and create more hosts for viruses. In our book, Coronavirus matches the description of a powerful minority woman who can do all the things Stacey Abrams would do, plus much more. Her pronouns are now ‘she’ and ‘her’ and misgendering her should really be a hate crime.”

Many progressive women, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who used to support Bernie Sanders, have now switched sides in favor of the Biden-Coronavirus presidential bid.

“Let’s be honest,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “We all know how frail Joe is, and that’ll make Coronavirus the virtual leader of the free world for the next four to eight years. I am confident she will solve the Climate Change problem through a drastic reduction in world’s population, bringing our carbon footprint to acceptable levels. It’s the Green New Deal I can believe in.”

Her sentiment was echoed by the renown climate activist Greta Thunberg. “Getting rid of old people who stole my childhood? Cool!” Thunberg told reporters at her home on a school day.

Cecile Richards, the former head of Planned Parenthood for America, gave Coronavirus a ringing endorsement. “I wanted to see a woman on this ticket who shares Planned Parenthood’s goals and commitments, and Coronavirus makes it an easy choice,” she said.

Coronavirus did not respond to requests for comment.

VIDEO:Trump and the Corona Counter Attack

The News

The world changed. A paradigm shifting moment if you read between the lines. This may be the most important article of over 450, that I have written to date. Please do read all of it and share it. Not for me, for us. Thank you and God bless you. And follow me on “News Behind The News“.

On March 11, 2020 President Trump addressed the Deep State, the American people and the world from the Oval Office concerning the Coronavirus. The President announced unprecedented moves such as suspending air travel both to and from Europe for thirty days. Social distancing and general hygiene precautions were also addressed. President Trump approved an $8.3 billion bill passed by Congress to help combat the virus. Furthermore, the President spoke of school closings and other closures and the avoidance of large crowds. The President announced financial assistance in various forms for financial relief of the American people. The President assured us that the fundamentals of our economy are solid and the best in the world today. He provided comfort and assurance that this will pass, (and it will). Then on March 13, 2020, the President once again held a briefing at the White House Rose Garden accompanied in part, by CEO’s of large corporations, joining forces with the Federal Government to help curtail the spread of the Coronavirus. In this briefing, the President declared a National State of Emergency. And with this, the Corona counter attack begins. They can never out trump, Trump.

The News Behind The News – Connecting the Dots of the Cornavirus

Perspective. Presently, and it is now only March 13, 2020, there are an estimated 220,000 people in the U.S. with the flu and 22,000 died thus far year to date. Presently, and this number changes daily, authorities in 132 countries and territories have reported more than 142,000 novel coronavirus cases worldwide since China reported its first cases to the World Health Organization in December. In the U.S. as of today, March 13, 2020, the total cases reported are 1,629, in 46 states, with 41 deaths. Of these deaths, 23 occurred in one concentrated place at Life Care Center in Kirkland, Washington, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center.

Could this virus simply be a highly contagious cold or flu like virus? There was a 65 year old woman that was on the Diamond Princess who was diagnosed with Covid-19 and she went on FOX NEWS and basically said she had a mild fever, cough etc. and after a few days the symptoms went away and she was tested again as negative. The President has told us that most who are diagnosed in fact, do recover. Most who die are elderly due to poor immune systems and or current illnesses. Well isn’t that the case with most anything for anyone elderly like this?

Let’s talk about testing shall we? According to reports, there seems to be some sort of problem with the current tests. According to a study published in a medical journal, the false positive rate of positive results was 80.33%. You can find more data about this by clicking here. So you can see why there is a rush to test the President. Like all else, Trump has beat them to the punch. The President has taken action to make new tests and make testing available for all under the direction and supervision of the team the President has assembled in government as well as in the private sector. The fact that there is such a rush to have the President tested by the MSM media makes one wonder. The President will be tested with the test he chooses at the time he chooses. End of story.

Dark Desperate Deep State Is Panicking

This is a deep state op. Yes, another deployed false flag. A soon to be failed one. The media has pushed fear. Do you believe what the media says? I mean they told us for two years that Donald Trump was a Russian spy! The MSM have been fanning the flames of fear since day one. That’s their job as the controlled megaphone of the deep state. They expected to create complete chaos and societal breakdown, this has not occurred. They expected a complete market and economic collapse but this too, actually has backfired as well. I will discuss this a bit further on this Wednesday on News Behind The News. Tune in.

You see, the “plandemic”, Coronavirus, is a well-planned deep state op, that was created and deployed as a weapon against humanity, with specific aim at President Donald J. Trump (the existential threat), we the people, and America, as an attempt to derail the electability of Donald Trump, and as a desperate attempt to prevent being further exposed and taken down. Yes, a battle between good and evil. I, and many others that are in the know and awake, have forecast this type of event and scenario we today find ourselves in with the Coronavirus attack. I and others, have written and spoken about these sorts of events for quite some time and most always under much fire and challenge. They are called false flags. And since we all will have some time on our hands now, I strongly urge you to listen to the video links posted below. And so it’s game on! Let’s have a further look at the News Behind The News, shall we? Oh excuse me, before we continue, Bill Gates resigned from his BOD. Carry on, nothing to see here…

National Emergency – Counter Attack – Stafford Act –  Restoring the Republic

Nothing can stop what’s coming. Nothing. This has been planned for quite some time. National State of Emergency – the Counter Attack. “Never let a crisis go to waste”, cuts both ways. The national state of emergency gives the President extraordinary resources and full power of all kinds, from the Federal Government.

President Trump recently stated in media interviews that he has read and is very well familiar with the provisions in the Stafford Act. This gives under a national state of emergency, extraordinary powers to the President such as afforded to the President via the Stafford Act

Stafford Act Provisions Provides Emergency Power

  • Marines and National Guard to work under one set of orders by the President
  • Can call forth the militia to help execute the laws – Repel invasion
  • Felonies can be brought forth without presentment or without grand jury indictment

Yes the President said he can now use the full power of the Federal government under a National Emergency. The President said no resource will be spared in a recent tweet.

Consider This

Then check out “Silent Running” which has shown up on the Q boards and reported by Kelly Ruiz on News Behind The News marker 11:00.

Winning

You see this is an intelligence battle of which we are winning. Check mate is coming. Although presently it seems like we are losing, Trump is setting the stage. This is what America’s second revolution looks like. We have fought and won many battles in the past three years beginning with the attempted election theft of Donald J. Trump in 2016, not by Russia but by the deep state, the DOJ, FBI, CIA, the Democrat operatives, and the Clinton machine  all under the Barack Obama administration. They said Trump will bring us into nuclear war with North Korea. Instead the President ushered in a handshake between North and South Korea as the President himself crossed the demilitarization zone. No nukes, no war. Syria, they said Trump would bring us to war with Syria. How did that work out? ISIS and the caliphate crushed, no war with Syria. This brings us to the orchestrated designed destruction of Brett Kavanagh to see that he did not become a Supreme Court Justice. Today he sits on the bench. When all else fails bring in Stormy Daniels and the creepy porn lawyer Michael Avennatti. How did that end up? Stormy Daniels was ordered by a Federal Judge to pay President Trump’s $325,000 legals bills and CNN fake news porn star Michael Avenatti, who said he will put Trump behind bars and considered a run for President, is behind bars in a rat infested urine stained cell and Trump is seeking re-election.

And remember the media frenzy about recession-recession-recession? There was no recession. Then of course there was the Mueller witch hunt. Russia-Russia-Russia. Result? A nothing burger. This brings us to the fake, phony, and false impeachment hoax. This too backfired. Happy New Year! The attempt to bring Trump into war with the failed Soleimani attempt too back fired and that story came and went in a flash along with the life of the terrorist himself. Trump, ending endless wars. This brings us to today, the Coronavirus. Now this battle, albeit a bit more challenging and sacrificing, shall soon be won. In fact the pendulum shifting moment already happened. Time is short for the deep state scum. We are actually, covertly, on the offense – big league. Again, nothing is as it appears. Trust the President. Trust the plan. Things will get worse and more dangerous over the next two to three months. It’s okay. We will prevail. Stay calm and focused. Trust the plan. This is what dark to light looks like.

Summary

The Coronavirus is real, created in the labs of Wuhan and has since been deployed, so wash your hands well and often. Follow what the authorities, particularly what President Trump is saying. Consider taking sodium ascorbate (Vit C) in powder form, oregano drops, perhaps along with colloidal silver and Vit D. Seek a qualified natural health care practitioner or a medical doctor with a conscience towards cures and not just addicted and controlled customers, and build your immune system. Plenty of good advice on the “prepper sites” as well as on FOX NEWS and other broadcasts from various professionals. Hunker down. Stay home, enjoy yourself! Get caught up on things. Read, watch movies, actually talk with human beings. Use technology while at home to remain well connected. Kick back and soon this too, shall pass. Having said that, nothing is as it appears.

The lock-downs and closings will accelerate. But the bottom line is simply this. Exposure-Shakedown-Takedown. Keep these three words in mind. Turn off the fake news and tune in. You will begin to see. Their time is up and they know it. Game on-game over. Arrests have begun. Indictments are coming. The CB system is about to be checkmated. The markets (eventually), will be restored but more importantly the entire monetary system. In November, Trump wins in a landslide.

And So…

And so now I ask you to listen up please. Yes I may be speaking to the choir here to an extent, well I am glad that the choir has been assembled. Now sing your hearts out and share this article far and wide. Since what I am about to say may come as somewhat of a surprise so again I ask you to listen up as I embark upon what I call disruptive, uncomfortable truths. But don’t shoot me, I am only the messenger. You are about to hear things that perhaps you have never heard before. But just because you haven’t heard it doesn’t mean it isn’t true. You just haven’t heard it yet. And just because I say it, doesn’t mean it is true. Point here is do your homework. Do your own due diligence. Let me begin to help us connect the dots, making sense of the madness.

Their goal in part, is people control, population control, forced vaccinations and the destruction of President Donald Trump’s economy along with the global economy. This is being done at the same time as the de-class and while arrests have begun and also serves as a major diversionary tactic and diversionary distraction as the deep state and global shadow government are fighting for their survival. We are at war.

Pay attention. Last week hundreds of the cartel arrest were made. Director of National Intelligence, Richard Grenell is draining the swamp. He is freezing hiring at the Office of the DNI while beginning the process of cutting staff. Meanwhile, and not getting much media attention, Trump has ordered the military which has hit deep state site targets in Iraq. This is the next step to the follow up of the take down of terrorist Soleimani.

IGI, IGII FISA, Lyndsey Graham’s Senate Judiciary sworn hearings , as 21 deep state scum will testify under oath. Graham is on the record as saying that 50% involved in the Russia  hoax are going to jail. Rudy Giuliani’s files are now in the justice department on AG Barr’s desk exposing sleepy Joe and Where’s Hunter Biden along with many other dead bodies both literally and figuratively in the Ukraine. Yes the Barr tab is due. The Jeffrey Epstein case is yet another on-going investigation. We have the films, photos and evidence. AG Barr said, and I am paraphrasing, that those who are complicit in the Epstein case shoudl not rest well. There is also Julian Assange, who is due back here in US courts to reveal a treasure trove of most devastating valuable intel against the dems, the fake news and the deep state.

Then there is John Durham who is very close, I mean very close to releasing and revealing not only his criminal investigation but his indictments. Remember there are over 150,000 sealed indictments. Trust Sessions. Trust Mattis. Nothing is as it seems. This is an intel battle and information war on our minds. Fortunately, people are waking up. The people are seeing. The people are now onto this. Yes we the people, the patriots now bear an awesome responsibility for America and for mankind. Heed the call. My advice-Trust and support Trump. No Trump, No Hope.

Know this. We know who they are, where they are, and just what they have done. There is nowhere to hide, nowhere to run. Justice is coming and they know it. It’s either us or them. The deep state is going down as Harvey Weinstein is hauled off to prison.

Yes Trump stated – “I Caught The Swamp” , well, he meant it! Yes, military tribunals have already begun. Yes, two former elected officials have already paid the price as justice for them has been served. Yes, the Federal death penalty has been re-instated by AG Barr. And we may very well see perhaps in 2020, live streaming tribunals from GITMO. This is Trump and the Resurrection of America as Trump leads America’s Second Revolution. It’s here. It’s happening. It’s escalating as the battle rages on. Humanity hangs in the balance.

The deployment of the coronavirus shows you just how evil and how serious this battle is. Freedom or tyranny. Life or mass death and destruction. No this is not fear porn, this is well founded commentary and analysis. Go ahead and challenge me. Remember this, many of the conspiracy theories of yesterday have become the conspiracy facts and realities of today. The deep state is exposed. They are panicking and they will lose. Yes, things are now become increasingly more serious, deadly and greatly concerning for humanity, again with America being in the cross hairs. We have won every major battle and deployment of false flags and coup d’etats.

In Closing…

I received this intel. I shall share it.

“There are 151,002 sealed indictments in federal courts all around the US and it’s protectorates at this moment waiting to be served. Mostly on voter fraud and election rigging but also by other serious criminal syndicates and much of it treasonous which will warrant military trials. GITMO cost 2 million to set up to handle ‘terrorists’ in 2001. The Trump administration has spent over 2 BILLION revamping it and expanding it over the last two years. Another 3 Billion in remote infrastructure has been put in play in the last year.  He didn’t do all that for optics.

As of 60 days ago GITMO has been fully manned and is now at full strength with personnel and supplies. The (some) ‘quarantine centers can double as detention centers for legal processing. The overlapping ‘census’ and medical observation will provide context to speak with and vet every person – think illegals who voted. I also expect air travel to be shut down for 4-6 days at some point most likely around 3/22/20.

Things will get back on track fairly slow but sure about mid April but it will be early summer before it’s really seeming close to ‘normal’ again. Definitely not the end of the world, just a hard hiccup. Might need a weeks worth of food on hand and to bridge the kids through and keep the gas tank topped off. It will sound worse than it is and then pass but don’t blow this off; it’s the real deal, the virus is mostly being used opportunistically to do what has been in play for quite some time.”

Singing Off For Now

Wow! What an amazing time to be alive. We are winning and as our brilliant, brave, chosen, and duly elected President Donald J. Trump stated in the briefing from the oval office, “we are all in this together”. This will pass. And remember, WWG1WGA. (Where We Go One We Go All).

It’s all here- published daily. Watch the News Behind The News, with John Michael Chambers and co-host Kelly Ruiz. God Bless.

The Two Countries with the Greatest Commitment to Democracy

The world over, commitment to democratic values is worryingly weak.

For those old enough or educated enough to remember, humanity still lives very much in the shadow of the bloody 20th century (the most murderous in human history) with its failed political ideologies and the resulting huge loss of life.  It was democracy that won out, proving much more effective at protecting human life, based as it was on Judeo-Christian values and the intrinsic worth of every person.

Yet, commitment to specific democratic values is not particularly strong according to recent research conducted by the Pew Research Centre, despite the idea of democracy remaining popular.  One wonders if people continue to have a good understanding of what our democractic values are, why they matter, and what the alternatives are.  The research, which surveyed 34 countries, found:

  • only 64% of people thought that it was very important to have freedom of speech;
  • only 64% of people thought it was very important to have freedom of the press;
  • only 54% of people thought it was very important that opposition parties be able to operate freely;
  • only 65% of people thought it was very important to have regular elections; and
  • only 68% of people thought freedom of religion was very important.

The largest shares of the public describing all nine rights and institutions tested as very important are in the United States and Hungary.  Yet, even in those two countries only a third (33%) considered all nine democratic principles to be very important.

Interestingly, freedom of religion was the top priority in all three sub-Saharan African nations in the study as well as in Turkey, Indonesia and India. However, it was the lowest priority in several more secular nations, especially in Europe, where the French, Swedes, Spanish and Dutch all rate it their lowest priority, as do Japan, South Korea and Canada.  Religious persecution is often significantly under-reported in the Western media, perhaps contributing to these differing views of its importance.

A key problem seems to be the belief that elected officials are completely out of touch with the people they presume to govern.  Across the 34 countries surveyed, 64% of people believed elected officials do not care what people like them think.  In the United States, 71% shared this view (perhaps a contributing factor to a polarising figure such as Trump unexpectedly winning the presidency).  In nearly every nation surveyed, those who think politicians don’t care about average citizens are more likely to be dissatisfied with the way democracy is functioning in their country.

It stands to reason that increasing numbers feel their views are repressed and unheard, because freedom of speech is indeed narrowing.  We are increasingly no longer trusted to hear and express a wide range of ideas, the repulsive and attractive alike, and freely make up our own informed minds about what we think, allowing the more repulsive ideas to weaken by their very expression (rather than fester and become stronger in the dark).  Instead, an elite group of people, be they politicians, academics or rich corporations with the skewed ideals of their bottom lines, decide what we are allowed to hear or even think; their reasoning often puts the protection of minority groups from harm or offence above freedom of speech, sometimes very nobly.  But the fundamental problem is, who gets to decide what ideas can be freely discussed once we decide many views will be censored?

Freedom of speech can be understood as a multi-faceted right that includes not only the right to express, or disseminate, information and ideas, but also:

  • the right to seek information and ideas (this concerns the people who want to listen to the ideas to get to the truth of a matter);
  • the right to receive information and ideas; and
  • the right to impart information and ideas.

Quotes you have probably heard before include: “I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it”, and “To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticise.”  For people to feel listened to in a functioning democracy, and perhaps counter-intuitively to also rid ourselves of the more extreme ideas, we need to protect the right to safely and freely debate a range of ideas.  There is no need for freedom to discuss ideas everybody likes.

No matter what the system, ultimately a just society depends on the individuals within it possessing virtue and behaving in a virtuous manner.  No human rights or constitutional documents will save us if virtue is absent from the hearts of individuals, and faith in the system and society is lost.  Our constitutional systems do not uphold themselves.

Perhaps a survey like this shows individuals need to take more time to understand democracy and its alternatives, taking into account how the various systems have worked in practice in history and their track records in upholding the dignity of people and the value of their lives.  Then, if we indeed still believe in them, we might need to be more explicit about making sure future generations understand the value of democratic principles like freedom of speech.

In which country where the press is strictly controlled, ideas are not able to debated, and opposition is suppressed would the people who answered that these values are not ‘very important’ like to live in I wonder.

ISRAEL: No! Not all votes are equal!

There is—and should be–a qualitative difference (i.e. a structural inequality) between votes cast for parties that wish to undermine the Jewish nation-state and those who wish to protect and preserve it

… the right of the Jewish people to establish their State is irrevocable…This right is the natural right of the Jewish people to be masters of their own fate, like all other nations, in their own sovereign State…Accordingly, we…hereby declare the establishment of a Jewish state in Eretz-Israel, to be known as the State of Israel… The State of Israel will be open for Jewish immigration – From Israel’s Declaration of Independence

Why was the First Temple destroyed? Because of three things which prevailed there: idolatry, illicit sexual relations, bloodshed… But why was the Second Temple destroyed, seeing that in its time they occupied themselves with Torah, mitzvot [religious observance] and acts of charity? Because baseless hatred prevailed. This teaches you that baseless hatred is equal to the three sins of idolatry, illicit sexual relations and murder. Babylonian Talmud, Yoma 9:B

The election results put us in the position of choosing which election promise to break. In this situation, removing Netanyahu is the main goal. We have no choice but to rely on the Joint List.” MK Moshe (Bogey) Yaalon, Blue & White, March 12, 2020

It would be so nice if something would make sense for a change – Alice in Alice in Wonderland (The film)

These four excerpts encapsulate concisely, yet precisely, much of the implausible events that transpired in Israel’s political arena over the last few days—from the disturbing departure from the founding ethos of the State of Israel to the pernicious conduct of those, who allow their personal pique to undermine the very foundations of Jewish sovereignty.

A Kafkaesque aura

This Wednesday (March 11, 2020), a surreal—almost Kafkaesque—aura descended upon political realities in Israel, shrouding them in a thick swirl of bizarre fog, distorting familiar perspectives, and conjuring up outlandish spectacles, previously considered inconceivable, before our very eyes.

Incredibly, and despite fervent assurances to the contrary, official envoys from Blue & White, MKs Ofer Shelah and Avi Nissenkorn, unashamedly proceeded to engage the heads of the Joint List in an effort to cajole them into entering a coalition to oust PM Benjamin Netanyahu from office—or at least into supporting the establishment of such a coalition.

This, of course, constitutes a breathtaking abandonment of principle by Blue & White, a party headed by three former IDF chiefs-of-staff, who time and again assured the electorate that any government that their party formed would not rely in any way—neither directly nor indirectly—on the overtly anti-Zionist Joint List.

This was a pledge that appeared eminently plausible. After all, the Joint List, a motley, ad hoc political amalgam of Stalinists, Islamists and Arab ultra-nationalists, united only by an incandescent animosity towards Israel as a Jewish state, is a party, which represents the utter negation of everything the leaders of Blue & White have dedicated much of their adult life to defend.

“…would rather die than sing Ha’tikva…”

What makes this Blue &White endeavor even more perverse is the fact that, less than a year ago, prominent Joint List members repeatedly accused the heads of Blue & White of war crimes!

For example, just prior to a planned April 2019 visit by Blue & White MK Moshe (Bogey) Yaalon to the Arab city of Tamara, in the Galilee, the Ra’am-Balad alliance—today part of the Joint List—issued a harsh statement, condemning the visit: “The entry of war general [Bogey] Ya’alon to the city of Tamra and the Arab towns is dangerous, audacious, and signifies a crossing of red lines,…It is unthinkable that we will receive and shake the hand of someone who has blood on his hands…”

The statement went on to call for the cancellation of the visit: “We call to cancel the event which aims to market the party of generals involved in war crimes, and to gather in support of our nation’s [i.e. the Palestinian-Arabs’] justified struggle…”

This, of course, is an illustrative rather than an isolated example. Thus, a recent Joint List MK (2015–2019), Jamal Zahalka, brazenly declared he would “prefer…to die than to sing the Israeli anthem [Ha’Tikva],” and that the Israeli flag is “worse than a rag.” He also proclaimed that his Balad faction was not part of the Israeli left, but rather “an integral part of the Palestinian national movement”.

Declaration of Independence as Israel’s seminal Social Contract

After the outcome of the 1948 War of Independence, Israel’s Declaration of Independence laid out , in effect, the parameters of the Social Contract between Israel’s institutions of governance and its citizens—all its citizens, including its Arab citizens who elected to remain in it after Israel’s victory against the combined Arab attempt to annihilate it.

Indeed, the Declaration of Independence is the cornerstone that defines the ideological and ethical foundations upon which Israel was established and, as such, circumscribes the bounds of legitimate political dissent within it.

In this regard, it is significant that in the Declaration of Independence, the words “Jews” or “Jewish”, appear 24 times, all in reference to nation and/or nationality. By contrast, the words “equal” or “equality” appear in total twice, both times in reference to civil and social, but not national, equality.

It is thus indisputable that Israel was established as a sovereign Jewish nation-state, in which the Jews—and the Jews alone—have exclusive national rights, while all non-Jewish inhabitants have equal civil rights. (It was precisely in order to cement this fundamental and foundational precept in law by giving it legislative standing that Basic Law: Israel – the Nation State of the Jewish People was passed—belatedly—in July 2018).

Israel’s seminal Social Contract (cont.)

With regard to the question of the bounds of legitimate political dissent within Israel, there are of course a myriad of matters of legitimate political dispute. For example, these include:

Whether it should be a “cradle-to-grave” welfare state or one where the unbridled forces of the free market determine socio-economic outcomes—or what the appropriate mix of these two countervailing perspectives should be.

Or whether Israel should extend full sovereignty over all the territories beyond the pre-1967 lines or withdraw from them completely—or some hybrid blend of these diametrically opposing views.

While disputes over these issues may well be vehement, as long as they relate to ways and means to secure and develop Israel as the nation-state of the Jews, they are indeed, legitimate.

However, dissenting views begin to depart from legitimate debate when they pertain, not to how to preserve or promote Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people, but to transforming it into something qualitatively different.

Thus, when one is on a soccer field, there are different tactics and styles one may adopt as long as they conform to the rules of soccer. What one cannot do is adopt methods that contravene these rules. Thus, for example, one cannot pick up the ball and run with it or tackle the opponents as if it was a rugby match. If a player objects to being precluded from using his hands and persists in violating the rules, he will be removed from the field. Indeed, he may even be removed from the team, and advised to join a rugby club where he will no longer be bound by the rules to which he objected.

Violating the “rules of the game”

Although some might find this analogy somewhat simplistic, it is in many ways both appropriate and illuminating.

Readers may recall that in my previous column, Time to bar the Joint List, I underscored the perverse paradoxical practice that prevails in Israel, whereby anti-Zionist parties are persistently permitted to participate in parliamentary elections, despite being in flagrant violation of the “rules of the game” i.e. the law setting out the conditions for such participation.

Thus, Clause 7A of Basic Law: The Knesset prohibits a person or a party from participating in Knesset elections if their “objects or actions…expressly or by implication, include one of the following:

  • negation of the existence of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state;
  • incitement to racism;
  • support of armed struggle, by a hostile state or a terrorist organization, against the State of Israel.”

Indeed, even a cursory perusal of the official platforms both of the Joint List itself and its component factions reflect a stark rejection of Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people as set out in the Declaration of Independence, as well as an equally stark violation of the letter (and spirit) of the Basic Law stipulating the conditions for participating in the national parliamentary elections.

Judicial gobbledygook no substitute for common sense

In earlier pieces, I cataloged the innate and enduring enmity shown by the Knesset members of the Arab parties comprising the Joint List towards the founding ethos of Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people, and their unequivocal identification with Israel’s most vehement enemies—see for example here. (For additional chronicles by others, see here and here.)

Such malfeasance included, among other things: spying for Hezbollah in 2006; smuggling mobile phones to convicted terrorists in prison; consorting with leaders of enemy states; expressing support for terrorist organizations and justifying attacks against IDF personnel and civilians across the 1967 Green line.

Yet despite clear evidence that the objects and the actions of both the people and the party consistently and continually contravene the legal provisions for participation in elections, neither the Joint List nor any of its constituent factions, nor any of its recalcitrant candidates have been barred from taking part in them.

But the generals of Blue & White cannot invoke unfathomable judicial decisions to underwrite their political actions—for judicial gobbledygook is no substitute for common sense—or a sense of national responsibility.

After all, by attempting to coopt the anti-Zionist Joint List—whether actively or passively—into the formation of a governing coalition, they are in effect—inadvertently or otherwise—contributing towards legitimizing and promoting its anti-Zionist agenda—or, at minimum, aiding in facilitating it. After all, the Joint List will not lend its support to Blue & White without extracting a heavy price in terms of advancing its anti-Zionist aims, which hitherto have been—rightly—thwarted by a Zionist majority in the legislature.

Conflating two separate issues: Arab ethnicity vs Arab enmity

The brouhaha over Blue & White’s approach to the Joint List causes two separate issues to be conflated and confused.

The one relates to the voting rights of the Arab minority, the other to the nature of the parties that they can vote for.

This confusion was clearly reflected this week in an article by New York Times Jerusalem bureau chief, David Halbfinger, entitled Israel Faces a Defining Question: How Much Democracy Should Arabs Get?. In it, he asks “Are the votes of Arab citizens worth as much as those of Jews?

There is, of course, no dispute in Israel that its Arab citizens have the right to vote.

But in the context of the preceding analysis, the “worth” of their vote is not –and should not be determined by who cast them—but who they were cast for. Likewise, there also should be no dispute that there is a qualitative difference (i.e. a structural inequality) between votes cast for parties that wish to undermine and dismantle the Jewish nation-state and those who wish to protect and preserve it—however vehemently they may disagree on how that is to be done.

In this regard, Israel’s Arab citizens voted almost monolithically for the former—i.e. for the Joint List. It is thus not their ethnicity that determines attitudes to their votes, but their enmity.

The perils of personal pique & BDS (Bibi derangement syndrome)

Of course, none of this is abstruse “rocket science”. None of it is unknown to the leaders of Blue & White. And yet they persist in their seemingly obsessive effort to include the inimical Joint List in determining the fate of the Jewish nation-state—see Gantz’s latest demand to include the Joint List in the broad emergency government suggested by Netanyahu to deal with the current coronavirus crisis.

It is difficult to find any convincing explanation for this disturbing depravity on the part of Blue & White, other than that the deep-seated ad hominin opprobrium, which its leaders harbor for Netanyahu, has befuddled their judgement, warped their priorities and caused them to succumb to the dreaded BDS—the Bibi Derangement Syndrome.

The Difference Between East and West

I’ve been to Japan several times over the years on business and have had the privilege of seeing Japanese work habits first hand, which are noticeably different than in the United States. As a small example, the first time I visited, I noticed in addition to having Coke and Pepsi machines on a street corner, there were also beer and whiskey machines. I discovered the Japanese were not worried about the youth getting alcohol from the machines as it would cause their families to “lose face” through embarrassment. If we had such machines in this country, they would probably be emptied by our youth faster than the vendors could stock them.

Aside from this though, there are a few other differences I observed in corporate Japan:

  1. Japanese do not like to say “No” to someone as they do not want to offend the person. Instead, they tend to say, “Maybe Yes,” which, when translated, means “No.” If they nod their heads in the affirmative, it only means they understand what you are saying but they don’t necessarily agree with you. Because of this, it is not uncommon for American businessmen to fool themselves into believing they are being successful when they make a presentation in Japan. In reality, the Japanese understood the presentation but need time to digest and discuss it among themselves. If an American asks them something like, “Was I correct in this regards?” If they answer, “Maybe Yes,” the American is in trouble.
  2. I’ve been in a few large offices in Japan where I have seen young employees suddenly jump up on their desks and give a five minute speech on why he is proud of his company and what a pleasure it is to work with his coworkers. When finished, the rest of the office politely applauds before returning to their work.
  3. It is not proper for an employee to be insolent and openly criticize his superior. Knowing this may lead to pent up frustrations, some companies have small closet-sized rooms where the disgruntled employee can go into, close the door, and quietly beat an effigy of the boss with a bamboo stick. It may sound kind of silly, then again, you don’t hear of anyone going “postal” in Japan either.
  4. It is still important for the Japanese to reach a consensus on any significant decision. This process may take some time to perform, but they want to emphasize team building and inclusion of employees in the decision making process.
  5. When you join a major company in Japan it is common to first “pay your dues,” whereby you and your “class” (those who joined at the same time) are put on the same employment level and work for ten years, after which it is determined who the hard workers are and reward them with a major job promotion. If you didn’t work hard, the company won’t necessarily fire you, but your advancement in the company is arrested. Nonetheless, the emphasis here is on teamwork and creating a spirit of cooperation.

In the United States though, things are a little different:

  1. Americans are not afraid of offending anyone. So much so, that “Hell No!” (or stronger) is a natural part of our vernacular. Unlike the Japanese who digest something before speaking, Americans do not hesitate to tell you whether they agree with you or not.
  2. Rarely do you find an American employee who is steadfastly loyal to his company. Instead, it is more likely he will start an anonymous blog to bitch about his company and slander the character of the boss and his coworkers.
  3. Americans tend to vent their frustrations more publicly than the Japanese. For example, you might get attacked in the company parking lot, or someone may pull a gun out and start shooting.
  4. Instead of group decision making, Americans prefer rugged individualism whereby decisions tend to be made unilaterally as opposed to seeking the counsel of others. Consequently, employees tend to undermine any decision which is jammed down their throats.
  5. When you join a major company in the United States, you are rewarded more for individual acts as opposed to team playing. This results in a never ending game of scratching and clawing your way up the corporate hierarchy. Obviously, this approach promotes interoffice politics and cutthroat tactics as opposed to a spirit of cooperation.

Why the substantial differences? Primarily because Japan is a homogeneous culture, and the American “melting pot” is heterogeneous which includes people of all races, faiths, and beliefs.

Although the differences between east and west are noticeable, things are slowly changing in Japan, whose youth have grown up with the Internet and are starting to emulate the work habits of their counterparts in the west. In other words, instead of observing courtesy, honor and respect, Japan is slowly becoming Westernized and I fear that some time in the not too distant future “Maybe Yes” will mean nothing more than that.

Keep the Faith!
